A couple questions for you!
1. Do you think Nic saw/ was made aware of her lock screen being found and analyzed?
2. Was her insta stories post planned or random?
3. Do you think she’ll have to change her current strategy in dealing with all of this?
Personally, I think the longer she stays quiet the more certain people are going to try and invade her privacy in search of “evidence” and “proof”
Hey anon.
1. She is probably aware of this. I have to amend this whole section because I literally can’t find the screenshot I saw anywhere in the HB post. But we know they lurk on Twitter and it exploded there before anywhere else. It’s unfortunate but we they see these things probably regularly and if they don’t, I imagine they’re told so they know what’s being said.
2. The insta post of her old picture afterward? Idk. I’m on the fence with that tbh. With Luke’s old photo shoot pic shared out the next day I would think there’s possibly a connection to be made or it could just be random. A memory that popped up and the photog decided to share.
3. I think there might need to be some changes but ultimately, at some point, something has to give. Continued silence is fueling the fire but if she speaks will that make it worse? She also might not be willing to speak because she doesn’t owe anyone an explanation when fans are making things up on their own. This seems like a difficult situation from an outsiders perspective.
Time will tell when the plan is so right now all we can do is continue to support her and the both of them while the rest continue with the narrative.
The truth always comes out at some point, one way or the other.

I have so many things to complain about in ep10, that I have a hard time organizing my thoughts
Other than that, some things have been bothering me about Jack as a character, or rather the choices made for his character. Because they are definitely making some interesting (derogatory) choices with Jack’s character.
I love Jack, he is (was?) the character I’m interested in the most, but I’m starting to think that I will never get the depth(?) I thought I would get from him.
I was definitely on his side during ep7-8, defending him while people had a hard time understanding his point of view, or putting themselves in his shoes. But since ep10, like I said , some things have been bothering me.
One of them is that I noticed that Jack barely has any emotional bond with the characters in the show.
The show did it well with Joke though.
Joke & Grandma: they had so many emotional scenes of talking to each other & supporting each other & doing things for each other that I feel like, at this point, people care more about the bond between Joke & Grandma, than Jack & his own Grandma (or even Joke & Jack)
Joke & Hoy: Hoy has been on Joke’s side since episode 2 if I remember well, always feeling bad for him, understanding that if a rich kid like him is not going back home, there must be a reason, teaching him to drive, asking him his type, etc. And even in this last episode, he was comforting him at the hospital
Joke & Tattoo: Tattoo couldn’t care less about him at first, since he doesn’t like rich people and like, he doesn’t know him anyway. So he betrayed him twice, with barely any remorse, and if his mother had been on his side, he would have been gone with the necklace. But things didn’t go his way and Joke decided to forgive him TWICE, which led to Tattoo being thankful & remorseful. Since then, an emotional bond has been formed
Joke & Arun: well, they started as enemies (with the first group heist of the show), now they are in good terms. Not much going on between them but at the very least, Arun is now part of the 4 Little Pigs, so they are spending time together, getting drunk together & they did that heist together as well
Joke & Toi Ting : they don’t have that many scenes together, but I feel like they always give the big emotional speeches to Toi Ting to Joke (first in ep6 when she cried because she got bullied for being uneducated, and in ep10 twice after her dad left & when Joke was going to leave)
Joke & his father and brother : whether we like it or not, they clearly developed a story of love & forgiveness, etc (I don’t have much to say about this storyline as I don’t like it, but I understand that it’s a cultural thing, as most of the Thai bl I’ve watched did the same thing)
Even Boss & Nang had some interesting conversations with Joke in the show.
Now let’s look at Jack...well, I feel like everything is superficial
Jack & Save: who are they even to each other? They talked like 3 times, and it was nothing very noteworthy. He’s like this random lil bro that he’s close to, and we don’t know why, how or when they got close. So the betrayal feels a bit off, and the reveal was also underwhelming (to me at least)
Jack & Hope: once again, why the beef? No explanation. A few antagonistic interactions at the beginning, then nothing.
Jack & his grandma: we had some scenes, and of course they love and care about each other, but weirdly enough, their emotional bond feel weaker than the one she has with Joke...idk
Jack & Hoy & Tattoo: he was their debt collector, helping them because they couldn’t pay...and that’s it. He’s like the nice neighbourhood big bro. They like him, they respect him. But we don’t see much of it. They barely hang out with Jack. And when they do, Joke is always here. They are giving more Joke’s friends hanging out with Joke’s boyfriend tbh
Jack & Toi Ting: We know that she likes him, she was his eyes in the neighbourhood when he was working, I liked that scene with Jack, Toi Ting and her dad. But again very superficial. Like I said, the big emotional moments with Toi Ting are given to Joke and Jack is on the side so...
Jack & Arun: nothing to say I fear
Jack & Nang : does Jack even know that she exists? Oh yeah, she was at the table during his birthday dinner at Rosé's...does he know who she is?
Jack & Boss: probably one of his most developped relationship...and it’s an abusive one. Like I said in a previous post, Jack got emotionally manipulated by Boss during the 5 years he worked for him, and then ended up being verbally, physically and mentally abused by him, while being used as a pawn to Boss’s quest for power (after almost killing his grandma). All those scenes of Jack closing his fist while talking to Boss better not be for nothing
Jack & Rosé: Well, she liked him, he didn’t, he worked for her while being a potential spouse (forced by Boss). He ended up telling her that he didn’t like her but said they could remain friends...where was that friendship though. Nothing they shared was genuine though...so like idek (I wish there was an actual friendship formed between them actually but oh well)
Jack & his parents: Very surprised about the fact that he NEVER talks about them, ever. I actually thought that Oh (Jennie’s character) dying the same way as his parents would trigger him or something, but no. He thought about them briefly in ep4 (after Joke fixed his little bookshelf corner) but Grandma was the one bringing them up, saying that she misses them.
So...yeah. It’s disappointing really. I feel like there was so much more that could have been done with Jack’s character
And it also might be one of the reasons why it’s easier for the viewers to connect with Joke than with Jack

i saw this tweet and found it interesting for two reasons. one is that some people base how good cartoon network would be to toh by how it treated su, and despite the fact that su’s treatment by the network was considered poor at the time, now its thought to be exceptionally good in comparison to modern shows.
two is how exactly su got impacted by a limited budget. a common criticism is how characters like connie, peridot, and lapis are left out of missions. but balancing a lot of characters is not only hard but also costly (extra animation, extra voices—it’s been revealed that the show is limited to a set number of characters per episode otherwise they’re over budget). animation mistakes are not uncommon since retakes cost extra. the entire reason the original show got cut short was due to loss of funding!
#i don’t know if pay rates differ per networks#but a.ivi and s.urrashu have said that they needed to work outside of su in order to make sufficient funds#it only makes me wonder what other ways su suffered from a lower budget#that we as the audience never got to see#in the vein of the too-little characters complaint#another part of that is that low-stakes episodes should’ve been abt the main cast instead of the townies#like last one out of beach city and too short to ride vs restaurant wars and kiki’s pizza delivery service#i definitely see that especially since that isn’t budget related#nor would it seem to be network related (even if cn had an ‘episodic episodes’ quota it could still be abt the gems#(another side note: /would/ cn even have a requirement that the show make episodes that can be watched standalone?#this is a question for the people who were around when su was airing#what episodes often got rerun?#was it the townie eps or the lore eps?#for example i heard that su once did a ‘peridot event’ where they just reran peridot episodes#which had eps that skip around in the show#did they even care about airing the story so that it made sense anyways?#id get it if the low stakes townie episodes were the ones getting rerun))#but i have such a boring view on that which is i think it’s simply because the creators like townie eps#like in interviews r.ebecca s.ugar has said she’s the type to be really invested in background characters#answers in interviews have been crafted in ways to hide what’s really going on though tbf#prime example of this is rebecca and ian saying the wedding being interrupted was meant to follow the common trope#when later in the art book they said that it was bc cn rejected the ep bc it ‘wasn’t interesting enough’#both could simultaneously be true! it’s a psychology thing though where people make up nice-sounding explanations behind what they create#in retrospect because they want it to be thought out in such a nice way they believe in it#the bigger problem is that not matter how many episodes there are of them#it can be hard for ppl to be invested in the townies the same way they are invested in the main cast#i’m sure that a million writers have made surefire advice on how to get an audience to care about characters#but off the top of my head i think it’s because 1. most don’t have strong motivations to get truly invested in#(exception is ronaldo but people find him too annoying to care about him)#okay i had more points and explanations but i hit the tag limit and idk if anyone is actually reading this so bye

I think that deep down Mobius couldn’t prune the two kids because he subconsciously knew— he felt like it would be like pruning his own children. He was a father and will always have that instinct, no matter how many times he was brainwashed.

I’m rewatching Labyrinth and I already know I’m going to make this about Tim Drake.
Bruce gets Damian as a baby, and makes Tim watch him while he goes out on the more dangerous missions.
Tim throws a fit and says the whole ‘Ugh, I wish someone would just take you far away from me!’ bit and then League assassins kidnap Damian.
Tim tracks down Ra’s and threatens him and Ra’s tells him, “Ah, but Detective… I’m doing you a favor. I heard you, you know. Just think how much better life will be when you don’t have to worry about taking care of my grandson.”
“…I appreciate what you’re trying to do, but I really need my brother back.”
Ra’s stares at him for a few moments. “How disappointing. I suppose you’ll just have to find him, then.”
And that’s the last thing Tim remembers before waking up in the labyrinth. He walks forward for a few moments before he sees a figure training with a sword in a courtyard.
The figure turns and Tim spots bright green eyes and a streak of white in a head of black.
“Oh, Replacement. It’s you.”

back to our regularly scheduled rhea brainrot!
some explanations under the cut ^^
top 5 saddest rhea moments 😹🙀
1. Eating her devil fruit
One night, Rhea finally had enough of being forgotten and ignored by her family and ran away to the forest, planning to never come back. She thought that if she was “gone for good,” it would make them realize their mistake.
Over the course of a week, she sustained herself off of the diverse plant life, and learned survival skills by following the patterns of a family of wildcats.
However, only while watching the mother cat gently care for her cubs did Rhea realize that no one had come looking for her. She had purposefully stayed near the edges of the forest, hoping that maybe someone would find her. There among only the trees, she cried until her chest hurt; unheard, unseen, & forgotten.
She spends one more night out in the woods, running low on accessible food sources in the forest shallows. She spots a new fruit that she’s never seen before, and in a moment of naivety, cuts a piece and pops it into her mouth. So shocked from the bitterness, she instinctively swallows the fruit. Effectively traumatized, she leaves the rest of the fruit for the animals and heads home.
There was no one to greet her when she arrived home, no greeting in the following days, no greeting from even the townspeople. No one had noticed she had even left, and somehow, she felt more unheard than before.
2. Learning to be selfish
The Whitebeards notice the way Rhea doesn’t ask for things the way kids normally would. Over the smallest requests, she would avert her eyes and bow her head. When shown the barest act of patience or compassion, her eyes would gloss over a little bit.
Marco, being the one she trusts the most, decided to address this. Through various conversations, Marco attempts to piece together the life Rhea lived before setting sail. She would talk about God and punishment, the sea and vengeance, earning and losing love through action. While much of her worries were padded in metaphor, wether from fear of admission or simply the phrases she was fed, Marco could gather that her sense of self worth was too damaged for a girl of 10 years old.
On a day where Rhea was feeling particularly vulnerable, she finally tells Marco about her family. How she was forgotten in place of the new “first son” of the household; how she made herself small so that, maybe, she’d be good enough of a daughter to be remembered. She laughs emptily about it, claiming she understands the pressures of having a second child.
“Well, It’s their first life after all,” She gives her parents too much grace for Marco to accept. “But isn’t it yours too?” That short sentence is enough for Rhea’s world to break.
She’s overwhelmed with all the things she wants but never asks for. “Tell us what you want, and you’ll have it. You can be selfish, you’re a pirate!” Marco encourages. “I want to have my hair brushed,” she starts at a whisper. Her voice grows louder as she states her greedy desires. “I want to be hugged,” “I want to be noticed,” “I want to be loved!”
She’s sobbing into the fabric of her too-big sleeves by the end, and Marco holds her close in comfort.
3. Father
Her struggle to feel worthy is a difficult unlearning process. No matter the words of support that her brothers gave her, it didn’t make the feeling of weakness go away. When you’re surrounded by men as strong as monsters, it’s difficult to not compare your own abilities.
Her feelings of inferiority are especially supported when she needs to be comforted from whispers of battle on the wind. Too many times has Rhea watched images of her brothers’ blood from the backs of her own eyes. Her observation haki forces her to listen to their panicked heartbeats from where she tucks herself away in the smallest corner of the ship.
“She’s just soft,” she overhears Thatch say, after another dizzying afternoon of trying to press the remnants of wounds not her own out of her head. “I know, and that’s why I’m worried.” Marco responds quietly.
She tries to swallow her pain, make herself tougher in order to earn her place in the crew. She fails relatively quickly, lashing out due to the suppression of her hurt.
Whitebeard confronts her when she’s sulking while walking along the railing late at night. He calls her over to his throne, reprimanding her for her dangerous habit. She’s quiet when crawling into his lap, and still while wrapped into his cape.
“Rhea, did you know, I wanted to say yes. The very moment you first asked to fly under my flag.” Rhea was confused, Pops was rarely this sentimental unless he was drunk. “Why didn’t you?” she asks. “On these seas, there’s no guarantees. I could tell you were a child who deserved a long and happy life, there was no guaranteeing that if I had immediately said yes.”
“I don’t understand…” her confusion and hurt grows, “You don’t have to. What matters is now; and now, I see I made the right choice. I want you here, and I’m glad that you’re my daughter.”
The words from Pops felt concrete, they held the truth that Rhea was seeking. It extinguished her tangled feelings of jealousy and insecurity; The words she needed from a father.
“Even if I’m useless?” “You don’t need to prove your value to be loved! Who do you think I am, Big Mom!?” Whitebeard jokes, and Rhea laughs easy.
4. & 5.? Permanence
Rhea holds onto familiarity with desperation. She refuses to let go of things that are long gone, deluding herself that somehow she’ll get it back.
She had blissfully ignored death, convincing herself that her family was untouchable by those things. Ignoring the signs of age and wear on her crewmates. When Thatch dies, and the Paramount war happens, and she can no longer cling onto childish fantasies.
Rhea’s birthday is shortly after the Grudge war. Her brothers ask her over the snail what she wants, promising theyll get her anything to cheer her up from their bleak loss streak. All she wants is to go home.
She misses the rock of the waves when she sleeps; The old doors that she needed to close with a little more force; The faces of her family and the easy conversations. Now, her heart twists at the thought of the Moby Dick. The ship sits in pieces under its enemy’s water.
She feels nothing but sickness when she turns 21. The thought that she had out-aged Ace haunted her all day. She couldn’t stand it.

2024 reads / storygraph
Lord of the Empty Isles
sci-fi/fantasy
set on a supposedly utopian planet recovering from a climate crisis, where bonds between people are able to be seen and manipulated (by some people)
follows a young man whose brother was cursed and killed by an infamous outlaw 5 years ago, and he’s finally able to curse him back - but it rebounds, as he’s somehow fatebound to the outlaw
to find a cure and save them both they have to team up, and he quickly finds out that the resources the outlaw is stealing go to the thousands of people neglected on prison planets, and he has to go against what he thought was right to help them
no romance, aroace MC, focus on platonic relationships
arc from netgalley, out june 6
#Lord of the Empty Isles#aroaessidhe 2024 reads#I enjoyed this quite a bit! But I think it could have gone a bit further in places.#It has some interesting concepts and a great cast of characters and yay no romance#I do have a lot of thoughts and little critiques...#it's p obvious where the plot is going and what's going to happen#There’s clearly a lot gone into developing this bond system but to be honest I still don’t entirely get it?#It seems to emphasise that the bonds just reflect connections between people rather than predetermine anything; but also the plot kind of#hinges on Remy and Idrian having a predetermined bond? There are a lot of explanations of intricacies but a lot of it didn’t sink in idk#It’s promoted as QP but to me it reads as a general platonic relationship. I generally expect a depiction of a QPR to have like..#some form of acknowledgement/depiction of the form of their relationship being a particular (undefinable?) kind#with some specific level of commitment? I’m being picky maybe they mean queerplatonic themes/vibes rather than saying it’s a qpr#specifically. the centred platonic relationship is good! it doesn't seem like a qpr to me; at most what could one day be that#also things are solved quite quickly and easily in the end - both the curse and the downfall of the bad guy.#I feared it would go down the route of blaming things on the person in charge rather than emphasising systemic issues which it kinda does….#It’s impossible to ignore right now just how deeply people are willing to believe dehumanising propaganda - and how 'telling the truth'#and exposing the person in power as bad doesn’t actually do anything so that happening here made me go…… oh okay. well.#there is room for a sequel that maybe will explore this tho. idk#complaints aside - I do recommend this! It was fun and pretty unique.#aroace books#no romance

regarding my prev tag about a merc employee sending the email and my overall thoughts about lewis at mercedes and possible sabotage:
i think it’s very clear at this point that things behind the scenes at mercedes are messy, and that the relationship with lewis and mercedes has been fractured for a couple years now. it’s hard to believe that it has gotten this bad. if we were to go back to 2020 or even 2021 it would’ve been unthinkable that it would get to this point: that lewis would leave mercedes in the first place and go to another team rather than retire, that the possibility of the team sabotaging him is even being considered.
and i think we should consider it a possibility that there is sabotage happening at the team. and by that i don’t necessarily mean that the entirety of merc is actively plotting against lewis because there are thousands of people working there, some of whom have been there since the beginning of lewis’ tenure with them, and have a strong working relationship and even friendship with him. i don’t doubt that there are people at mercedes who still want the best for lewis in terms of results and life in general. however, the opposite can be true as well— there very well could be people in the team who do not like or care for lewis, and all it takes is one, two or a few people here and there to cause trouble.
it might sound illogical to sabotage lewis, but. just because it seems "illogical" doesn’t mean it’s impossible. people are not robot-computers that act rationally all the time, there are plenty of situations where people at mercedes have not acted logically in the past couple of years. it is illogical that merc wouldn't give lewis, their most successful driver, the most successful driver of all time, a 2+1 contract and an ambassadorship. it is illogical to replace lewis with an almost 18 year old who skipped an entire feeder series and can’t drive a road car yet. it is illogical for the marketing team to actively ignore lewis, their most popular driver, in their social media posts, for the admin to beef with lewis fans publicly on the official account. there have been many instances of illogical behaviour, and unthinkable things have happened in the past couple of years. why not one more illogical or unthinkable thing? there have been many instances where lewis has been treated unfairly by the team, and it could be a coincidence or incidental of course, but how many coincidences or incidents have to take place before it is not that anymore?
which brings me to the email. we do not know who sent it and what the intentions are with the email— it could be sent by someone who genuinely cares about lewis and his well-being, it could also be someone who wants to cause trouble for mercedes, and doesn’t care one bit about the consequences it will have on lewis. it might be a mercedes employee and it might not be. however, the fact that it has been sent out— by someone who knows something about the inner workings of f1 media— and is being investigated means that we cannot any longer ignore the murmurings of what is happening behind the scenes at mercedes.
for the record, im not saying for sure that there is sabotage happening. like i said, i believe there are still people at merc who still like and care for lewis. it could be just some people being bad at their jobs, and not anything more deliberate and sinister than that. we, as outsiders, don’t know and won’t ever know the full details of what’s happening and will happen at mercedes. sabotage is only one possibility out of many, but it is not as improbable as some people think.

one thing I’ve seen a lot of portwells/ej stans mention is that the wildcats were “bad friends” for not helping ej with his stress/pinning more specific blame on gina for not helping her boyfriend when he was stressed. for one, this is kinda blatantly not true. besides the fact that ej refused to ask them for help (and understandably so) by not revealing that he was director at the beginning of 302 or inviting miss jenn to outsource help, for example, most of them helped him/offered to help in one way or another. gina constantly shared her faith in his abilities and even offered to step back on their relationship while at camp to allow him more free time. val appeared to fulfill a lot of the directing role with casting and helping to organize the readthrough. maddox helped with organizing auditions. carlos (along with val) organized rcosl to help get more drama. I could share more examples but they serve to highlight that when ej was drowning, he was not left at sea. a lot of his stress was intrinsic, and even all the help in the world was going to prevent it because of pressure he imposed on himself. to blame his friends, who were there to have fun, with the only responsibility on their plate being to learn their lines, is a misunderstanding of why he was stressed and how he could be helped. the best thing they could do for him was learn their roles for opening night. in fact, miss jenn literally tells him “if they know their lines, they’ll be fine.” i also wanna mention that ej didn’t really seem to be failing at directing. it was more of a combination of personal doubt and the introduction of the production being filmed. the latter likely placed stress on all of them and there was nothing that they could really do to change that for themselves, let alone ej. anyways, all this is leading up to my main question: what did you guys want the wildcats to do for ej? take on directing parts of the show while also learning their lines in under two weeks? magically find him a way to please his father? the stress that ej was under sucked. but it wasn’t the fault of his friends, nor could it disappear in the presence of sweet words. I just wanted to pose this inquiry to his stans and open it up for respectful debate!
