I also love this person's transmisogyny because it's not true, it's literally doing the like I'm AFAB and I don't feel this way therefore no AFAB s do but like, that isn't the case. I know a kindergarten teacher who got seriously reprimanded because one of the mothers threw a fit because she would often refer to the whole class as guys, and she took personal offense to her daughter being referred to as a guy, and this didn't come from like a 'liberal feminist.' It was from a conservative Christian housewife who didn't want her daughter being referred to as a man.
Even different from this, feminists for many good reasons look often for language that decenters men, it's not these terms are gender neutral but that our patriarchal use of language centers men in a such a way that in common usage terms that describe men describe people in general. When I was in elementary school, if we were talking about someone who we did not know the gender, we were taught not to use he/she, or the correct they, but he. This is just like guy, bro, and dude is not gender neutral in itself it has the denotation of man, but due to how our language centers men it is used often with a connotation of anyone. Like all language and slang, what words we use are situational and what things are 'gender neutral' refer to different things, but you have to be either purposely obtuse and an asshole, or exceptionally naive in order to think that calling a trans person a term with a denotation of their agab will never upset them.
Also like for cis girls don't care this reminds me of things where people are like, oh if 'Steve dead names me, I'll start calling him Stacy' and when you do this Steve is annoyed but not as upset as someone would be being dead named, because like dysphoria and the experience of being trans can make people more sensitive to certain things.
I'm going to stop rambling here because I think you cannot have these opinions of like oh it's not really my fault without either being trans misogynistic or believing that any criticism is a personal attack and therefore you are a perfect owo smol bean who can't do anything wrong and in either case get help, touch grass and delete this app
omggg you think dude and bro are gender neutral and u should be able to call anyone that? should we throw a party? should we invite bella hadid

so ryan said that more plaid shirts = texas, but a staple LA outfit for eddie has always been henleys…..
is there something meta about how eddie will take off the plaid shirt, leaving him in only the henley, to go help the 118
No, because this is something that has been happening, @stagefoureddiediaz touched on it on her costume metas for 8b, but like, when he's in Texas, he's in plaid, it's also a thing in Eddie begins.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But in 812, when he's questioning if it was the right decision, that is a henley and it is a very "Eddie in LA" outfit even though he is in Texas.
Tumblr media
And in 817, the talk with henren we have the henley being hidden by the plaid. But it is a different style of plaid.
Tumblr media
But the fight, he has an overshirt, but no plaid and the shirt is just a regular black long sleeve.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And at the end of the episode is also not a henley. But we have the plaid. And how odd the shirt fits. And that rust type orange.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And it's interesting because when playing with it in a positive light, it's a color used to invoke warmth because flames, so it can be a comforting tone, it's about resilience. But it's also associated with headstrongness, and that paired with the emotional turmoil that's always associated with checkers and patterns on the show got me 👀👀 (it being Buck's therapy color also got me perking up like a dog, because it can also be about creating stability, which is what I assume they wanted to invoke with Buck there, how he craves stability) (the scenes here are Buck therapy season in 403, when he tells Eddie he should've been the one who got shot in 414, when he talks to the lawyer and the scene at the station where finds out Lena is there, leading to the lawsuit, when he saves the guy in the windshield and finishes the lawsuit arc for real, when he finds out about Daniel, when he tells Maddie he is in therapy and when he talks to Chris about being a player and Shannon in 701, this all plays with Buck wanting stability but being stuck in his ways)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The orange is one of the colors of the season tho and he conveniently matches Buck's furniture and while my deranged ramble about how the kitchen represents El Paso, the living room represents LA and the dining room is the limbo of "i want to reach you but i can't" is a deranged ramble, Eddie having the conversation with Pepa in the living room while all packed is interesting. And the fact that we are picking the orange thread back up. Considering Buck starts 817 in orange just for Eddie to end in it and still be in it.
Tumblr media
Not to mention the white henley connotations.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
After Shannon's funeral, when he stands up to his parents about wanting to be in LA, conveniently with Pepa's support, before the tsunami, something that triggers what could've been the biggest loss of his life but ends up establishing him and Buck as partners, and the beginning of Eddie's breakdown happens in a white henley. The white henley opens cycles for him.
White is historically transformative for Eddie, another example of the white is the Kim scene, and while this isn't a henley, this does have a similar fabric to the henley he's wearing in those stills.
Tumblr media
I don't know if we are gonna get him in just the shirt, but holy fuck I'm excited if we do end up getting the symbolic moment of him taking the flannel off just to put on his lafd turnouts and have some mayday moment.

thank you so much for sharing your work with us! I love the ninth wave and the whole verse ❤️
I have a question... what's the role of Clark as the pack alpha when it comes to Lex pregnancy? like Lex has his own alpha, so I'm guessing for all things that he could need an alpha, he'll have Dan. So is that how it works? or are certain things for which Lex (or Dan) will need Clark specifically? and like how does it affect to have two omegas pregnant at the same time, if it affects at all?
I love Clark/Lex's dynamic and would love to see them more involved, but I don't know how it works in the universe...
That's a really interesting question! Because yeah, you're talking about Lex's Alpha (full stop, upper case) versus Lex's alpha. How does a Pack Alpha trump a mating bond or courting alpha? Plus, how does that work when Lex and Clark already have a strange and sometimes strained (but sometimes also very intense, in a good way) relationship?
The way I view it, Clark is responsible for Lex, he feels Lex's pack bond a little more intensely than a fellow pack member would. But he's not the knot-headed alpha patriarch who Lex bows down to in all circumstances. He has a certain sway over Lex, but Lex is absolutely able to pluck that pack bond and send reverberations right back at Clark if desired. We saw this in ASOH the first time he deferred to Clark. This reluctant kind of acceptance that they do care about the other and your typical alpha patriarchy stuff doesn't hold power here. But Pack bonds and old-fashioned pack hierarchy -- there's a much more compelling argument to be had there. Lex views himself as an extension of his Pack Alpha and Omega in times of distress; their belief in him is so so important. He can take Clark's anger if it means he still has the Pack bond, if that makes any sense at all.
Where does another alpha wade into that? Well, he does it very carefully. Daniel is a good egg, we've already seen him deferring a LOT to Clark. He's not Pack (yet) but if he was, alphas can coexist in the same pack. I see a lot of folks commenting that they'd butt heads no matter what, but I think that's a very traditional a/b/o trope and not one I want to entrench here. They might have to get used to being around other alphas because they've both been solitary for a while, but they're not fighting just because they're in the same pack. And Daniel absolutely can court and mate Lex, as long as he knows that he's doing it under Bruce and Clark's watchful eye(s). It's kind of like meeting an in-law? Except then you ask that in-law to also formally adopt you. And it's not a parent-child relationship at all.
I think there are definitely things Lex will need from Daniel (proximity, sex, etc support during pregnancy) but there's also things he just can't get from a mate that he needs from his Pack. And Clark plays a large role in that, obviously. Lex might flip out and need to go stubbornly cuddle Bruce in the nest for a night and Clark and Daniel might both get kicked out for a bit. Lex might need Clark to tell him he's doing the right thing and it's okay to be vulnerable with Daniel, etc.
TL;DR: (sorry for rambling) Dan is Lex's alpha, but Clark is his Alpha and therefore one half of his gateway/connection the Pack itself. So Dan needs to be careful wading into this dynamic, but it isn't hostile just because it's two alphas. Not necessarily, in a perfect world.

Not really sure what this is yet, so I'm going to ramble about it to try and tie some of it together and see if it makes any sense lol.
The way Buck views Eddie's house, his own place in it and what it says about their relationship has shifted over the course of the show. In the earlier seasons, Eddie's house becomes Buck's safe space. It's comfortable and easy, it's somewhere he knows he'll always be welcome and can let his guard down to the extent where he doesn't even feel like a guest in it. But of course, at that point, Buck doesn't realise he's bisexual and no one within the narrative can really insinuate anything or question the platonic nature of his and Eddie's friendship.
In 8x09, when Buck offers to sublet Eddie's house, it's specifically to allow Eddie to move out and to be with Chris in El Paso. Obviously, Buck doesn't handle any of this well for a large part of the episode and attempts to sabotage Eddie's efforts to find someone to take over the lease, before eventually accepting Eddie's and Chris' happiness is more important than his own and it's the beginning of a process of letting them go (or so he likely told himself). Eddie then drives off to Texas and Buck moves in to Eddie's old house. Problem solved....right? Right??? Wrong lol.
Eddie may not have been physically present in that house, but he was very loudly and deliberately the negative space in it, as we see play out in 8x11. And by this point of the narrative, Buck is of course bisexual, has come out to Eddie and his friends/family and has had his first relationship with a man. A man who Buck hooks up with again as a coping mechanism to deal with Eddie's absence in Eddie's former house/bedroom, and a man who, it turns out always viewed Eddie as "the competition" and goes on to question why Buck is now living in said competition's old house.
Interestingly, Buck then tries to put distance between Eddie and the house itself. He's gone from "This is Eddie's house, I'm not really a guest" in 3x11 to "This is not his house. He was a renter. And he's straight" (iconic line btw) in 8x11. But then, by the time he's talking it through with Maddie in the same episode, even though he quickly dismisses the notion, Buck is the one associating living in Eddie's house with the possibility of being in love with him.
I haven't included screencaps of the kitchen fight from 8x17 as it was more about grieving for Bobby than anything discussed here, but that argument took place in the context of both Eddie and Buck living in the same house at the same time, even if only temporarily. The domesticity of them buying groceries and that being the trigger for their conflict, the familiar way they moved around each other in the kitchen, Eddie waiting for Buck to get home to reconcile and surprise him with Chris and Pepa before they all shared food together. They were behaving like a married couple and a family unit.
Finally, we come to the montage at the end of 8x18 where we see Buck back on the hunt for somewhere to live because Eddie and Chris have decided to return to LA and to Eddie's house. Now, don't get me wrong, this made me sad too lol. But...it does kind of make sense for where we're (unfortunately still) at with Buddie at this point of their arc. "It wasn't really mine. I was subletting" makes sense from Buck's POV right now because as far as he is concerned, Eddie is straight. Buck may as well have said "He wasn't really mine", especially as he expressed to Maddie that he didn't want to be seen as "hopelessly pining" for his straight best friend and his main rebuttal against anyone questioning his feelings for Eddie has been that Eddie is heterosexual.
He was quite comfortable embracing the intimacy of him and Eddie sharing a house in some capacity back in season 3, but despite Eddie's assurance in 7x05 of "This doesn't change a thing between us", clearly things have changed (to the point where the depth and intensity of his friendship with Eddie detrimentally affected Buck's romantic relationship). And given his conversations this season with Maddie and Pepa, it looks like Buck is trying to finally accept that.
Don't get me wrong, I love the whole Buddie as roommates trope, and it's possible they still may do that if Buck can't find a place to live, but I don't think they're ready narratively-speaking to co-habit just yet. And unfortunately, a lot of how/if this plays out in season 9 depends on what the writers do with Eddie, because until they fully commit to a queer arc for his character and have the conviction to stick to it this time, I don't see what else they can do with Buck other than let him heal and grow separately for a while as per Maddie's and Pepa's advice.

SAHSR Characters listening to player rambling
I'm sorry if this is a little out of character, I didn't finish many parts of hsr yet. Some of these headcannons might seem OOC, do please forgive me. 😭
But here's my thoughts on how the characters of self aware hsr reacts to the Player and them rambling abt lore or sum crazy theory.
This is pt1 (belobog)
Bronya would probably be sitting in her office or standing idly in the battle when you started your rambling.
She would be VERY confused (and concerned if its FNAF)...though she'd also probably try to learn or mentally note what kind of lore you're rambling about.
Seele would be MADD if she hears about what Afton did, I just know it 😭. She'd be passionately agreeing mentally if you start rambling about your hate for him or sm. (She might attack harder in battles while pretending the IPC npc's are Afton, lmao).
Pela would LOVE to hear abt regular lore or whole ass stories...we all know her love for that series in game, so I don't doubt she'd be listening intently as you ramble (if she doesn't have work, that is.)
Gepard....sweet, poor Gepard. Lmao imagine you're rambling about genshin lore or honkai impact. Poor guy would be so concerned if he heard about Diluc and Kaeya's relationship. But he'd also enjoy you rambling about the nicer and calmer parts of the quests. (Probably ends up visiting Serval, just to subtly try to reassure himself that him and Serval won't ever be on bad terms, after hearing about Kaeya and Diluc lmao)
Serval would also like hearing about lore while she works in the shop! Especially if it's about music or anything similar to Stellarons, she'd be fiddling with something while listening to your voice while you talk about music (She'd be interested if she hears about Xinyan- since both of them have guitars)
Lynx would be camping outside while she listens to you. She likes hearing about relics or the adventures of the characters you watch (Especially if you like to talk about Dungeon Meshi or animes with adventuring like me lmao). I feel like she would like more calm lore rather than horror or something else.
Sampo IS FUCKING LOCKED IN. As soon as he hears ANYTHING about business or scamming people, he. Is. Listening. Bro is furiously writing notes in his lil' heart shaped notepad with a snake themed pen he got from Natasha or stole.(I just know he has one, I JUST KNOW).
Natasha is horrified...if you tend to talk about more medical horror or horror in general. Imagine she hears about Dottore or the MLP Infection au, girl is going to be so concerned 😭. She'd be extra vigilant for any diseases in her patients from then on.
Hook is a certified ADVENTURER at heart! She would love to listen to Pokemon or more lighthearted lore about fun characters! Girl would draw about it, and make up her own adventures based on what you ramble about. She doesnt like horror though. (She'd probably try to search for Klee to make her join her little gang lmao, until Natasha tells her rhat Klee isn't in HSR)
Clara...I don't know how to describe her (I'm sorry 😭). She would love hearing about the Golden Archipelago quest in Genshin, or anything remotely fairytale like or adventurous. She'd probably ask Svarog if he could make something similar to Dodoco or something like Amber's puppet. She's interested in hearing about any creative inventions from any anime or game you've seen.

About Crowley's angelic identity
So here's my two cents to Crowley's identity/name theories. Now, I'm rather new to the fandom, so feel free to correct me if there's something already debunked in here. I also haven't read that many theories myself, so apologies if I'm just repeating things already said (I will reference some theories I have heard of too). Anyway, this is very long and rambly, so be warned!
Since we know Crowley was definitely a higher up angel, I'm leaning on that heavily, and will be talking about this in detail in the part about Lucifer, if you wish to jump to some theories I have so far not seen anywhere (not to say nobody else has thought of them or discussed about them, simply that I haven't seen anyone talking about them myself yet).
Now, starting with Raphael, who seems to be the most commonly theorized name. Now, I can see this being the case, but at the same time it does seem a bit too simple, which is why I would be rather surprised. Personally I prefer the idea that Raphael doesn't exist - technically. I've seen some ideas of him being Crowley's alter ego, but I don't really buy that either. What I believe is that he is Aziraphale, and the name "Raphael" comes from the fact that Aziraphale has a ridiculously difficult and long name that people would just simply misshear or missremember, and then write it to match the OTHER known angelic names like Gabriel and Michael. They remember something about raphel? Uhhh make it match the others, so Raphael. The parts about Raphael sometimes being shown with red hair and black wings are simply Crowley getting caught doing something good by humans, and then claiming to be Aziraphale so he wouldn't be found out. This would explain why Aziraphale is never mentioned by name in any texts, and perhaps also why he eventually decided to just call himself Mr. Fell. His name is hard. Bonus points for this would be that all of this kinda foreshadows the ending of s2 with him becoming the Supreme Archangel, so that is also nice even if it would just be a happy accident.
Next we have Astaroth. In short, we've already been shown a demon with this name (the one that brings Furfur the clicker in s2e4, image below). On top of that, Astaroth is a name of a demon, not an angel, so it would be a bit weird since Crowley's demon name is, well, Crowley.
Tumblr media
Now, Lucifer. I believe it has been stated that Satan is Lucifer, so Crowley isn't, BUT that is not directly what I'm here to talk about. Instead I'm going to point to something else that might give us some Clues. See, Lucifer has been credited for at least some things that Crowley has done (snake in Eden, showing Jesus all the kingdoms of the world), in a way that has essentially erased Crowley's existence from the whole christian lore. He's not mentioned even once, unlike Aziraphale, who, even if my earlier theory about Raphael is wrong, has been mentioned in passing as the Angel of the Eastern Gate. But Crowley is suspiciously, completely missing, and his deeds have been given to Lucifer. Now, if you google Lucifer's rank, there seems to be a lot of arguments about it. Some say Seraphim, some Cherubim. This alone gives us some leeway into thinking that maybe, just maybe Lucifer WASN'T the previous Supreme Archangel, and while he was very high up, he wasn't the highest, and he just has been given the credit for being that to cover things up. Metatron states how casting one prince of heaven down to hell makes a good story, and surely it's a lot better story to have the said prince be the one leading the rebellion and becoming Satan, no? Crowley never meant to fall, Crowley by all accounts isn't actually evil or malicious, so why not just credit Lucifer for everything Crowley was, wipe Crowley's memory, and pretend he wasn't anyone too important? After all, we can't have someone like Crowley be a big influence on demons given he likes asking questions and skirting around the status quo. And what of the angels that would hear about the previous prince of heaven falling for asking too many sensible questions and not actually being evil? It's better for heaven to just tweak the reality a little bit and make sure everyone thinks the first prince was just evil and became Satan.
But what's the evidence for this? I'm going to start with this scene:
youtube
I made it start from the part where I am referring to the most. Gabriel says "However, I am the only First Order Archangel in the room, or, you know, the universe" AND THE CAMERA JUMPS TO CROWLEY. This is the only time during this scene that we get a closeup on Crowley alone; there's been some showing both Crowley and Muriel at the same time, but none that have been closeups like this, and none with just one of them. If this isn't a Clue, it's an odd choice, since Crowley isn't saying or doing anything here, he's not making a face or reacting or anything, he's just shown... for no reason. At all.
Then there's his memory loss, that while not completely obvious maybe partly because he's good at hiding it, it's still there. Not remembering Furfur is one thing if Furfur was a lower angel, that's understandable since Crowley was a higher up angel, because you will remember meeting a celebrity while the celebrity might not remember you. It's a bit odd still, given how hurt Furfur seemed, and how he described their time together; he made it sound like they used to be friends. But Crowley has no recollection of this. But, like I said, that could still be understandable. HOWEVER, Crowley not remembering Saraqael who he created a whole ass nebula with? AND who is very high up also, so not a random low level angel? On top of that, Saraqael looks very distinct, someone you would remember meeting, since nobody else has been shown to travel by a floating wheelchair. You will not just forget them, especially if you work closely with them. During this scene, Crowley also seems to deflect not remembering Saraqael by just making a joke about it "I meet a lot of people", which is a rather common thing to do when you feel insecure about something.
On the same note, Crowley also seems to understand it in a deeper level when Gabriel is describing his own memory loss with feeling like an empty house, since Crowley says "I know... looking at where the furniture isn't." You can take it as him just emphatizing with Gabriel, but to me it seems more like he actually gets it, and why he adds to Gabriel's metaphor like this. He recognizes the feeling, even if his situation isn't the same; he has some of his memories, but there's gaps, they didn't take everything, and maybe some things are also bleeding through like they do for Gabriel. For example, while you could say Crowley remembered Metatron at the end from the trial he saw in heaven, it's a bit weird Michael, Uriel, and Saraqael don't, which to me suggest Crowley has earlier, deeper memories about Metatron, some he might not actively remember, but enough to be able to maintain the image and recognize him. Something is there, since otherwise Muriel and Saraqael would have just as easily recognized Metatron as well, given they did watch the trial together just before. On top of that, Metatron very specifically asks Crowley if he recognizes him, which is a pretty whacky thing to do if Crowley were just some random demon, since not even the highest up angels can. Or Aziraphale, who has in fact directly spoken to him once. To me that question seems like a test to see if Crowley has started remembering too many things. Metatron also seems VERY familiar with who and what Crowley is, and not in the way that says "ew a demon", but in a personal, vendetta like manner.
Tumblr media
I mean, just look at this absolute hatred. That's personal. As is his offer to Aziraphale after this. Metatron very clearly knows that Crowley would never take the offer to come back. Otherwise he wouldn't have offered it in the first place.
If Crowley was the first prince of heaven, it would also explain Aziraphale's reaction to him when they first met. Aziraphale was very much acting like an adoring fan from the start, clinging to Crowley's every word, and just being delighted that he was called upon to help. Crowley, however, didn't think that behaviour was weird in any way, meaning he was probably used to it already, and as such didn't feel the need to introduce himself either. I don't think he was just being rude by not telling his name to Aziraphale, since he did reply with "Nice meeting you", it's just that obviously Aziraphale already knew who he was. And that reaction from Aziraphale would work even if he, at the time, was a Cherubim like some theories say. Crowley would still be a massive celebrity.
If this is the case, someone has spent a lot of effort on it, since they would have to remove the memories of Crowley's original identity from the minds of every angel he has met, but then I'm sure Heaven has ways of doing so... as it's unlikely they would have let angels (and demons) to remember who Gabriel used to be either, had they managed to go through with the memory wipe on him. And Metatron seems just like the type of person to be petty enough to also alter the bible and other religious works to make sure Crowley isn't mentioned there either, and that specific mentions are instead credited to Satan. Maybe that is when he had "ingested things in his time" like he said to Aziraphale when giving him the coffee.
This all could still work if they decided to use the name Raphael, but personally I believe Seraphiel would work rather well thanks to the direct link to Metatron.
If you read all this, thank you! I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Genuinely Deborah Ann Woll has to be one of my fav actresses, and not only in the "I watched True Blood at ~16 and fell in love with Jessica Hamby" way. There is such a fire in her eyes, a passion behind ever line delivered, that enraptures me every time she's on screen.
I will never forget how breathless I was watching her go toe-to-toe in that battle of wits with Fisk back in DD s3 ep8. The tension... her wide-eyed -- bordering on feral -- sneer... how they'd one-up each other... her calm, hissed out confession... the fact that she was ready to put everything on the line to try and incriminate Fisk... God... GOD!!! What a performance. Just thinking about it has my brain buzzing.
She's just so intense and oh my GOD the way I love listening to her speak. Whether it be in a role or an interview, the cadence she has when she's explaining something makes my heart skip a beat. I don't even know how to properly put it into words, but there's something about how passionate she always sounds when speaking is so so so endearing to me. Every time Matt or Foggy in DD season 2 would shrug off her investigation into Frank I'd be gripping my screen shaking it like "NO!!! NO!!!! LET HER SPEAK PLEASE GOD LET ME LISTEN!!!!!" I could literally listen to her talk for hours I LOVE HOW HER SOUL BLAZES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ANYHOO. It's 3am now and I feel like I'm about to pass out at my keyboard. THOUGH I WOULD LOVE TO RAMBLE MORE I cannot... Ms. Deborah Ann ily you better have a bajillion hours of screen time in Born Again season 2 or I'll put my head through a wall.

ooo genuinely asking out of curiosity— what made you think there was a line for f1 rpf? In what way? I can kinda see it, I feel like there’s some very very popular kinks/tropes and then others you don’t see.
Also I’m not really into hockey rpf but I’ve kinda perused and know you guys have the most incredible fic!! I’m curious what are common tropes used in hockey rpf that you don’t see in f1? For example, I guess bc I’ve been in the f1 circle for so long I almost forget how it’s not “normal” to have sooo much omegaverse hahah
oh anon, i have many thoughts. can i interest you in a readmore?
okay so full disclosure is that hockey rpf has had people trying to doxx authors who post kinks they don't like, so it's not like it's free of problematic readers. personally i've had people write posts about how i'm a disgusting freak for some of the tropes/kinks i've written--mostly xeno/weird biology stuff. i've written some satirical stuff about it rather than let it get me down because tbh there are prudes in any audience. at this point i just don't go seeking people who write hand-wringing think-pieces about how my friends and i are the scum of the earth because really it's rooted in internalized misogyny, kinkshaming, and inferiority complexes; i simply don't have the bandwidth. but discourse like this has chased many people out of the fandom or caused them to unceremoniously delete their work. frankly, i've gotten off relatively easily.
but on the flipside--and maybe this is just time spent in the fandom?? god i've been writing hrpf since 2017--i've got a fairly loyal following who will read pretty much anything i've written. like if i wrote something completely balls-to-the-wall unexpected, it'd probably still get at least 50-150 kudos just on spec. i have a fic where the pairing is so rare that it's the ONLY one in the tag, and it still has 59 kudos.
the thing is that there's sort of a distressing trend of young people becoming more and more puritanical because of the diminishing youth space on the internet. i'm not the first to notice this or talk about it, so i won't bother with going into detail. but connected to this is the idea that fandom is rather cyclical as older fans move on (not all, but some) and new, younger fans come in. therefore, with a new cycle of fans nowadays comes a new cycle of...that. so it's pretty much all fandoms experiencing this. we've all seen the ridiculous outrage at ao3's hosting of """problematic""" content. i think this internal policing is why there's a lot more out-there kink content in original fiction on ao3 compared to fanfiction.
um okay onto hockey vs. formula 1! i need you to take this with an ENORMOUS grain of salt but based on a very very very small sample size, the more kinky the fic, the less engagement it gets. on one hand, this is sort of to be expected, since kink by its nature lies outside what is normative or standard, ergo hopefully people only read it if it's something they want to, or at least are curious about.
from what i've seen so far, i don't think f1rpf is that kinky?? to me, omegaverse is...okay, well it's kinky, but i also think it's become a kind of standard. i remember when omegaverse was new, but now i feel like it's a sort of fandom standard, at least for explicit fics. (are there g-rated omegaverse fics??? i simply filter out any search results for non-explicit fics.) my most-kudosed fic on ao3 is omegaverse, and to me that implies an acceptance of the trope to the point where it's become normalized. but i think there's a reason for that.
generally i think kink in fic is a way to explore and critique the source material in a sexy way. like for example, sports rpf in general has a lot of genderplay, either through omegaverse, or rule 63, genderswap, gendercurse, mpreg, male lactation, etc. which makes sense because generally Big Sports tend to be male-oriented, misogynistic, transphobic, and extremely segregated. and conversely, fanfiction and slash-fiction spaces, in their contemporary iteration, are largely the opposite. so hockey rpf, formula 1 rpf, football rpf, etc. will likely have a large amount of kink that engages with that concept.
but i think there's a lot more stuff to critique in formula 1 that, at least from my brief experience, has gone untouched. and maybe i'm just missing it because it was in the early 2000s or the 1990s? bear with me...
car-fucking/car sex: this is maybe my number one concern. why aren't they having sex in/on/around the cars? or WITH the cars? during a race? post-race? as a warm-up/cool-down? as a way to connect to the car/build the car? (see: carva universe) not just their race cars but also their stables of road cars. hello?? and nobody reacted to my suggestion that there should be a cronenberg-crash au. why not.
adrenaline junkie bullshit: like full jackass stunt nonsense. escalation to completely dangerous levels. deep sea diving, mountain climbing, parachuting, throwing a bowling ball at someone's nuts, etc.
bdsm: there is SOME--really really good stuff--but i want MORE. the way half of them like getting strapped into the seat but the other half hate it? but also the way that the adrenaline junkie bullshit feeds into painplay. and like the Whole Entire Concept of Discipline is just sports sports sports all over.
power dynamics and sexual ownership: while most sport rpf deals with teams, f1/motor is more individual-based. a driver is virtually owned by their team and it's extremely hierarchical. it's what creates these intense rivalries and shifting loyalties. also the cost vs. income difference for the lower formulas vs. f1. idk i just think there should be fics where teams bring that into play for sex reasons.
age difference: some ships come with it built-in, of course. there's this legacy of mentorship that i've noticed which is sort of a combination of coach/player and agent/player. then there's engineers and team principals who also have rich opportunities. mechanics are also often older than the drivers. and owners, sponsors, ancient pundits? so like...fuck that old man??
idk there's just a lot of dark, gross stuff happening in formula 1 and i think it needs to be turned into disgusting (affectionate) sex.
i am accepting recs, and i don't care what pairing it is.
that all being said, and at this point i'm second-guessing every single sentence i've written here, there's still a ton of new younger fans coming in. you can look at the charting of most popular pairings across the past 10 years or so and see it happening. and please don't get me wrong: the cycle of fandom is actually necessary and i love to have fresh writers and readers involved! just that, well.
if i've been in a fandom for x-number of years, i'm going to have to theoretically get more and more creative in order to produce something fresh and different. so unless i want to write some long, well-researched, plot-heavy character exploration through the romance genre, i'm here suggesting that we put a gearshift up someone's ass. okay? okay. but new writers don't need to necessarily go that far. so it's gonna be more tame, more vanilla. less kinky. and likewise, less willing to take a chance on a bit of strange.

How fandom portrays the Batfam's reaction to Bruce not murdering the Joker after Jason's death:
Bruce: I can't do it. I just can't.
Alfred: Kill the Joker.
Barbara: Kill the Joker.
Tim: Don't, but my mind can be changed.
Dick: Kill the Joker.
How it is actually in the comics:
Bruce: I really want to kill the Joker, but I shouldn't and I will not.
Alfred: Don't.
Leslie: Don't.
Barbara: Don't.
Jim: Don't.
Tim: Don't.
Jean-Paul: If you had killed him, your son wouldn't be dead.
Dick: Don't, and I'm going to beat that blond bitch that thinks he's a better Batman than you.

The words grow erratic once more. As if her thoughts are once more growing unfiltered, or perhaps, too filtered; as if forced.
" I / w a n t / t o / b e / s a f e . " " B u t / I ' m / N e v e r . " " S a f e . "
They flicker. They grow stronger. They begin to... Flicker around the screen.
" I / a m / s c a r e d . " " I / w i s h / I / w a s n ' t - "
The words end abruptly. They sputter. They spasm.
" W o u l d / i t / e v e n / b e / s a f e ? " " T o / n o t / b e / a l o n e ? "
The words are frantic, and then--
They cut off. They disappear, and end. A single stream of consciousness once more. Something coherent, from deeper within her mind; perhaps, too deep. So deep, that it's actually... What she is thinking, perhaps.
"... I hope Kromer is doing alright. I'm scared. I'm terrified. What even am I, right now? I don't know. I wish... I could talk to her, right now. I wish I could talk to someone, who knew. Even if... Even if she were to hate me, for what I've become, I... I just wish I could talk to her. I... I feel like she would know what I am, or... Or at least be able to tell me something, even a little white lie, to let me feel like a person again, but... I can't talk to her, can I? I can't talk to anyone, about any of this, can I? Not someone who could help, that's... That's for sure, isn't it? I'm supposed to be there for him, since he's being so kind. What will Hong Lu even think? Do I want to be seen? Why... Why can't I stop screaming? I'm sorry, everyone. Why have become such a mess?"
The words continue. They flicker and begin to spiral, but the thought... It continues. It keeps rambling, surface-level thoughts of a woman, staring in a mirror, contemplating every second. Faster and faster.
"I'm sorry."

....Sinclair? Is everything okay? You haven't done anything wrong, you don't need to apologize.

going through some old logs, and I need you to understand just how truly unhinged early 2010s RP omegle was.
genuinely you could stay on there for hours with just one person, hashing out complex traumatic backstories, drawn-out love confessions, detailed action scenes...collaboratively describing graphic violence, past abuse, comfort, hurt/comfort, hurt/no comfort, any number of sex acts...and then one of you would be like, "oh haha it's 2AM! I have to sleep :(" and the other person would say, "omg saaaame. :( gnight!!!" and then you'd exit the chat and never speak to each other again, and this was. fine.
you could just spend an entire evening shoving your wretched, bleeding soul into a chat log with someone you'd never meet or learn the name of, achieve some form of emotional catharsis, and then go about your day or night like this was an average way to spend your time.
I'm really normal about this, actually

In my Zeus bag today so I'm just gonna put it out there that exactly none of the great Ancient Greek warrior-heroes stayed loyal and faithful and completely monogamous and yet none of them have their greatness questioned nor do we question why they had the cultural prominence that they did and still do.
Jason, the brilliant leader of the Argo, got cold feet when it came to Medea - already put off by some of her magic and then exiled from his birthland because of her political ploys, he took Creusa to bed and fully intended on marrying her despite not properly dissolving things with Medea.
Theseus was a fierce warrior and an incredibly talented king but he had a horrible temper and was almost fatally weak to women. This is the man who got imprisoned in the Underworld for trying to get a friend laid, the man who started the whole Attic War because he couldn't keep his legs closed.
And we cannot at all forget Heracles for whom a not inconsiderable amount of his joy in life was loving people then losing the people around him that he loved. Wives, children, serving boys, mentors, Heracles had a list of lovers - male and female - long enough to rival some gods and even after completing his labours and coming down to the end of his life, he did not have one wife but three.
And y'know what, just because he's a cultural darling, I'll put Achilles up here too because that man was a Theseus type where he was fantastic at the thing he was born to do (that is, fight whereas Theseus' was to rule) but that was not enough to eclipse his horrid temper and his weakness to young pretty things. This is the man that killed two of Apollo's sons because they wouldn't let him hit - Tenes because he refused to let Achilles have his sister and Troilus who refused Achilles so vehemently that he ran into Apollo's temple to avoid him and still couldn't escape.
All four of these men are still celebrated as great heroes and men. All four of these men are given the dignity of nuance, of having their flaws treated as just that, flaws which enrich their character and can be used to discuss the wider cultural point of what truly makes a hero heroic. All four of these men still have their legacies respected.
Why can that same mindset not be applied to Zeus? Zeus, who was a warrior-king raised in seclusion apart from his family. Zeus who must have learned to embrace the violence of thunder for every time he cried as a babe, the Corybantes would bang their shields to hide the sound. Zeus learned to be great because being good would not see the universe's affairs in its order.
The wonderful thing about sympathy is that we never run out of it. There's no rule stopping us from being sympathetic to multiple plights at once, there's no law that necessitate things always exist on the good-evil binary. Yes, Zeus sentenced Prometheus to sufferation in Tartarus for what (to us) seems like a cruel reason. Prometheus only wanted to help humans! But when you think about Prometheus' actions from a king's perspective, the narrative is completely different: Prometheus stole divine knowledge and gifted it to humans after Zeus explicitly told him not to. And this was after Prometheus cheated all the gods out of a huge portion of wealth by having humans keep the best part of a sacrifice's meat while the gods must delight themselves with bones, fat and skin. Yes, Zeus gave Persephone away to Hades without consulting Demeter but what king consults a woman who is not his wife about the arrangement of his daughter's marriage to another king? Yes, Zeus breaks the marriage vows he set with Hera despite his love of her but what is the Master of Fate if not its staunchest slave?
The nuance is there. Even in his most bizarre actions, the nuance and logic and reason is there. The Ancient Greeks weren't a daft people, they worshipped Zeus as their primary god for a reason and they did not associate him with half the vices modern audiences take issue with. Zeus was a father, a visitor, a protector, a fair judge of character, a guide for the lost, the arbiter of revenge for those that had been wronged, a pillar of strength for those who needed it and a shield to protect those who made their home among the biting snakes. His children were reflections of him, extensions of his will who acted both as his mercy and as his retribution, his brothers and sisters deferred to him because he was wise as well as powerful. Zeus didn't become king by accident and it is a damn shame he does not get more respect.
#ginger rambles#ginger chats about greek myths#greek mythology#It's Zeus Apologist day actually#For the record Jason is my personal favourite of these guys#The argonauts are extremely underrated for literally no reason#And Jason's wit and sheer ability to adapt along with his piousness are traits that are so far away from what usually gets highlighted#with the typical Greek warrior-hero that I've just never stopped being captivated by him#Conversely I still do not understand what people see in Achilles#I respect him and his legacy I respect the importance of his tale and his cultural importance I promise I do#However I personally can't stand the guy LMAO#How do you get warned twice TWICE both by your mother and by Athena herself that going after Apollo's children is a bad idea#And still have the audacity to be mad and surprised when Apollo is gunning for Specifically You during the war you're bringing to His City#That You Specifically and Exclusively had a choice in avoiding#ACHILLES COULD'VE JUST SAID NO#I know that's not the point however so many other members of the Greek camp were simply casualties of Fate in every conceivable way man#Achilles looked at every terrible choice he could possibly make said “Well I'm gonna die anyway 🤷🏽” and proceeded to make the choice#so hard that he angered god#That's y'all's man right there#I left out Perseus because truthfully I don't actually know much about him#I haven't studied him even a fraction as much as I've studied some of the other big culture heroes and none of this is cited so i don't wan#to talk about stuff I don't know 100%#Anyway justice for Zeus fr#Gimme something give me literally anything other than the nonsense we usually get for him#This goes for Hera too btw#Both the king and queen of the skies are done TERRIBLY by wider greek myth audiences and it's genuinely disheartening to see#If y'all could make excuses for Achilles to forgive his flaws y'all can do it for them#They have a lot more to sympathise with I'll tell you that#(that is a completely biased statement; you are completely free and encouraged to enjoy whichever figures spark joy)#zeus

"Oh no, someone's attracted to the aesthetics of my -punk movement but doesn't know the praxis and history behind it like I do--"
OK. Tell them. Make it a teaching moment. Everyone who's in your movement learned the background from somewhere at some point, maybe this is that point for that person. Give them a jumping off point that they can dive into later.
"Oh but I shouldn't be responsible for teaching baby -punks about the history and the how-tos and--"
OK. Then don't tell them. You don't have to be responsible for teaching people with a budding interest in your group the ins and outs and how-tos. That's fair and valid! It can be a lot of work. Someone else will handle it
"But I'm annoyed that they would try to claim to be part of/be interested in my community without knowing all the details that I know after being in it for months/years/decades, they're dumb, they're posers, they're--"
OK. Then don't engage with them, if it's that bad. Maybe someone else will come around and tell them the history, maybe they'll pick it up on their own, maybe they'll just enjoy the fashion elements for awhile.
"But they shouldn't claim to be part of the -punk community if they don't know the--"
I feel like we have a few options here. People can either talk to them, share the history, share the values, share the praxis. Or they can just chase off anyone who even thinks about dipping a toe in their community, and then wonder why it's dying off later down the line.
I dunno, maybe I'm too naive and patient or whatever. But if people are entering your -punk spaces without knowing The Rundown of what you feel they need to know, maybe being nice about it and informing people instead of immediately assuming stupidity and malicious intent could help you make a new friend. Even the loudest voices in a space had to learn from somewhere, and not everyone has the luxury of being in the space as the History was Happening--whether it's an age thing or a not being aware of the space thing. Or maybe I just don't see what the big deal is behind people hating people who like the aesthetic of something and don't know the behind the scenes history about it yet.
Because I believe in the word 'yet.' No one comes into this world knowing everything about everything, and we're all constantly learning new things. I'm not gonna degrade someone and call them a poser for not knowing what I know. Because if it were me, interested in a scene but getting chased out and called a poser? I wouldn't hit the books and study up, I'd go 'that fuckin sucks, those people sucked' and then avoid anyone and anything having to do with it.
So chase people off and call them posers if you want. But if your community starts dwindling, don't be fucking shocked.
