why can’t black women have a romance holy shit. every person who hates sydcarmy is talking about some “why can’t men and women ever just be friends” like that’s not all we’ve been allocated for decades. i understand that a lot of women particularly 👋🏻 women want stories that don’t revolve around romance, and hey i like those stories too! BUT black women have not had the same oppurtunities to just be love interests in the same way y’all have. We’ve been relocated to undesirable best friend roles or oversexualized booty calls. Y’all swear we have so much representation and yet can only name like 10 shows spanning over DECADES to prove us wrong like if there’s so much romantic content with black women as leads why the fuck are you talking about the flash and the walking dead?
and then we have the marcus and sydney brigade. the ONLY reason y’all want marcus and sydney together is cause they both black, they have zero chemistry. prove to me otherwise, quickly. I understand that people are tired of seeing interracial relationships (which is not really a problem but that’s a post for another day 😒 y’all swear that “the media” is trying to trick black women into marrying out or something stupid like that when we all know black women marry in their race more than any other demographic. imma just say black women should go where they are loved and fuck the noise) but y’all do this with nearly every show. Pairing characters together cause they’re the same race even though they have nothing in common. Nonblack people love doing this which i know why but again not the post.
But what REALLY pisses me off is calling Chefs Kiss a mentor/mentee relationship and then proceeding to ship sydney and MARCUS???
like you can’t be serious. carmy so clearly sees syd as his equal proven by the fact he wants to revamp his BUSINESS, his LIVELIHOOD with her. someone he’s known the least amount of time.
We’ve discussed this before but we know why Jeremy is probably wary about romance because of how hypersexual his previous job was and i get that, but I have yet to see a sydcarmy fan who wants them rawdogging on the kitchen floor. Idk it’s strange the way this show is edited and the music choices, and the script is written if they intended to go no romance for them. I’m really interested to see what their dynamic is like next season if they’re going to change it moving forward to dissuade fans from shipping by separating the two(like stucky vibes) it won’t work but that’ll be very annoying.
The WORST thing the show runners could do is insert a new love interest, that would piss me off to no end and i would stop watching the show. In the latest article they said(writer or show runner don’t remember) they wanted a show with no romance plot so they better fucking stick to it. I don’t want carmy to get to a later season and they’ve introduced a palm colored love interest for him. i swear to god i will turn the show off.
Now I personally will continue to ship them i’ve done so with other ships with far less, but that doesn’t mean i’m not a little annoyed. I hope they stick to their word if that’s the case.
ALSO we need more black women as romantic leads so go read the brown sister novels (chloe brown, dani brown, and eve brown) and hype them up so we can get movies( or in a perfect world a TV SERIES 🤭) based on them
TLDR: it’s dumb to hate sydcarmy cause you personally hate interracial relationships, if they mean no romance they should do no romance, that article was dumb and didn’t need to come out when we’ve already heard from both lead actors they don’t like the ship. we got it the first time. also read the brown sisters and spread the word so we can get a tv show about them thanks.

“I hate Peggy Carter”.
attention: I don't want to conflict with any of you and aggravate your attitude towards Peggy Carter and I don't want you to hate me for the rest of your days. please, let's be respectful towards each other.
I'm tired of this dull shit directed at peggy.
I really don't understand why you all okay, not all of you 100% hate Peggy so actively. Not being interested in the character, just not loving her is something else entirely compared to the outright, non-stop hatred that pours in her direction, infecting more and more people in the process.
You say that Peggy Carter is "toxic" because of a one-off episode in Steve and Peggy's relationship in which she shot Steve's shield (although they still continued to respect and support each other), while Tony Stark repeatedly showed self-centeredness, arrogance and selfishness at the very beginning of our acquaintance with him.
isn't that toxic?
but what do we have in the end? both of them are heroes in their time periods, in their universes. Peggy Carter was a brave, determined woman capable of fighting back against any enemy.
and Tony Stark was able to reconsider his actions, change himself, his life for the better, he is ALSO a real hero who sacrificed his happy, carefree family life for the sake of saving the whole universe.
note: we're talking about movies, TV series about them, not comic books that had these characters in. not all people have to kill their time to read absolutely all Marvel comics to know everything and be entitled to voice and reasoning.
you say that Peggy Carter is still a "bitch" who represents only white women and accordingly she is a true example of white feminism, having a basis for this in the style of: “iN hEr sErIes, PeGgY wOrKs iN a FiEld wHerE theRe aRe oNly wHitE mEn aNd WoMen."
I adore Peggy and always set her as a role model (although I don't think all of her actions are right), but I admit that there really is some problem with her image.
but you have to understand that, in any case, Peggy fought for women's rights the way she could fight. her show was canceled after the end of ONLY 2 seasons, not allowing her to open up properly. and not only her, but also other, no less interesting characters.
also, to reinforce this words, it is worth saying that neither Marvel nor Hayley Atwell support any particular kind of feminism, instead struggling with shitty attitudes toward women in general. think ab it.
you say that Peggy Carter is to blame for preventing the long-awaited reunion of Steven Rogers and Bucky Barnes I just noticed that you also hate Marvel, just because they didn't make Steven and Bucky a canonical couple, although the problem is that Marvel cannot make these characters homosexual.
Marvel focuses on its viewers, on its audience, but in some countries or regions where Marvel everyone adores and loves homosexual relationships are not accepted by society or even are a crime.
also, you should understand that these characters "come from" long-ago comics that have survived to our times and come to life on the big screens. hence the conclusion that Marvel cannot make Captain America and Bucky Barnes a canonical couple, as this is a significant change in their images and it may become something unacceptable to some fans.
but if they do, I'll be glad. I'm not really interested in this two, but I know a lot of very nice people who would be more than happy if they became a couple. BUT IN THIS CASE, I ALSO WANT PEGGY TO HAVE A GIRLFRIEND/BOYFRIEND, OKAY??
if you need proof of these words, just google it. you will find a sufficient number of examples when the creators made too strong changes in the images of all our favorite characters, which ultimately ruined them.
but still, Marvel is not homophobic. in it's cinematic universe there are homosexual characters (love them all!), but this is not their main character trait that should be inserted into every scene, comic book with this character. and that's enough loyalty to people who want to see homosexual characters and to the characters.
I'm very frustrated by these hashtags, in which 60% of audience just wants to cancel Peggy Carter.
Peggy is Captain America's love, and my fav. I really adore this character. you know, at some point in time, I stumbled upon it completely by accident and, to be honest, at first I didn't like Peggy Carter.
in fact, I was very skeptical of her character because “she's so toxic, so cocky, so unpleasant, so ambiguous”.
and those weren't my own thoughts.
these were the thoughts of other people I witnessed. but once in a tiktok I saw a scene of her kissing some blonde (oh my god, Dottie Underwood 🙂🙂) and I suddenly wondered where it was coming from. who it is, and why is it happening. sorry, but it was a shock to me.
......a pleasant shock.
at first I did not like the series, it seemed boring to me. but then I started noticing situations in Peggy's life when I thought: god, so relatable. then I began to like her clever, sarcastic comments, with which she easily repelled any attacks in her direction. I liked her humor, her resilience, her dedication.
and her quote:
"I know my value. Anyone else's opinion doesn't really matter." became to some extent my anthem.
also, there are a couple of other quotes of her:
"Compromise where you can. And where you can't, don't. Even if everyone is telling you that something wrong is something right. Even if the whole world is telling you to move, it is your duty to plant yourself like a tree, look them in the eye, and say, 'No, you move'."
"To you, I’m a stray kitten left on your doorstep to be protected. The secretary turned damsel in distress. The girl on the pedestal, transformed into some daft whore."
why am I writing this.
I'm writing this because I would like you to try to learn more about her and... be more adequate. because hate isn't cool. I understand that people won't stop hating her from this post, I can't change someone else's opinion at the click of my fingers. and nothing can. and yet... I'm here.
it all also becomes unbearable when you admire this character and surely some person will tell you that you are an idiot who admires this character. it's not normal to insult people online (and in life) just.. because?
there will be people who will say that if I am so sensitive, then I should throw away my computer and never show up here again. but what about you? the fact that someone likes something you don't like hurts you so much that you are ready to wish other people death, tell the most offensive words and turn their life into a living hell.
I hope that at least someone has read this post to the end and thought about my words. I guess I'm writing this post not so much for haters, but for myself and those who also love Peggy Carter and set her as an example for themselves. a simple reminder to myself and a handful of like-minded people that we are still alive and that we are firmly on our feet and still believe in Peggy.
well. I've finished writing this. I hope i don't suddenly die tomorrow. and if no one reads this masterpiece, then fine. It's okay. Anyway, I said what I wanted to say.

i am also def not cut out for the working life, i called out of work sick yesterday bc i had a deadline and haven't done any of my work for 2 months 😭 literally just cannot find the motivation to do a single thing im supposed to do
im sure you're an incredible older sibling <3 it's def hard work !!
omg secondhand embarrassment is crazy, i can't tell u the number of tv shows i can't watch or have to skip through scenes bc i get it so bad.
i have a lot of icks tbh, but i think they're all pretty reasonable. most of them are also more specific to men, which makes sense i think. like i hate cockiness, but in the specific way that men are cocky, bc i lowkey love a woman who's got a bit of an ego. basically i think men have egos they don't deserve but women with egos tend to earn them more
that turned into a rant i was not planning on going on 😭 but most of my icks are along those lines! sorry i'm also v tired so im just saying a bunch of shit and hoping it makes sense
qotd: favorite memory of 2022?
hope you have an amazing day lovely!
you’re very valid for that and i really get having zero motivation so i’m rooting for you!
omg i get what you mean about icks like that, i feel that too. honestly women could do anything that i would find gross if a man did and i’d be like yesss you absolute angel! i love u! but maybe that’s just me being gay shskjdkd 😎 now that i think about it i actually find super laddy behaviour to be a massive ick but i think that’s because i grew up around a lot of people like that who weren’t the nicest so i’m a bit biased against it! but also stuff like smoking, again because i grew up around it and was super negatively impacted by it
favourite memory is a hard one i feel like i’ve forgotten everything i’ve done lmao 😐 oooh i was shortlisted in a young writers competition i entered a few years ago that was postponed because of covid, and they didn’t actually pick winners this time but two of my pieces were selected and published in a book with all the other finalists! that was probably my favourite memory, just getting that email saying my work had been selected was such a big moment for me (i’d honestly half forgotten about the competition bc it had been 2 years) it feels like such an annoying brag to talk about so i kind of stopped mentioning it after the initial excitement but it’s such a big thing for me because i doubt myself a lot and it was judged by actual famous published writers 😭 i also got tickets to see my favourite show as part of being a finalist which was another favourite memory because i got to take my family and we normally can’t afford that sort of thing!
i feel like i went on too much again then i’m sorry shskdj i hope you have a good day and manage to rest! ♥️

race & culture in fandom
For the past decade, English language fanwriting culture post the days of LiveJournal and Strikethrough has been hugely shaped by a handful of megafandoms that exploded across AO3 and tumblr – I’m talking Supernatural, Teen Wolf, Dr Who, the MCU, Harry Potter, Star Wars, BBC Sherlock – which have all been overwhelmingly white. I don’t mean in terms of the fans themselves, although whiteness also figures prominently in said fandoms: I mean that the source materials themselves feature very few POC, and the ones who are there tended to be done dirty by the creators.
Periodically, this has led POC in fandom to point out, extremely reasonably, that even where non-white characters do get central roles in various media properties, they’re often overlooked by fandom at large, such that the popular focus stays primarily on the white characters. Sometimes this happened (it was argued) because the POC characters were secondary to begin with and as such attracted less fan devotion (although this has never stopped fandoms from picking a random white gremlin from the background cast and elevating them to the status of Fave); at other times, however, there has been a clear trend of sidelining POC leads in favour of white alternatives (as per Finn, Poe and Rose Tico being edged out in Star Wars shipping by Hux, Kylo and Rey). I mention this, not to demonize individuals whose preferred ships happen to involve white characters, but to point out the collective impact these trends can have on POC in fandom spaces: it’s not bad to ship what you ship, but that doesn’t mean there’s no utility in analysing what’s popular and why through a racial lens.
All this being so, it feels increasingly salient that fanwriting culture as exists right now developed under the influence and in the shadow of these white-dominated fandoms – specifically, the taboo against criticizing or critiquing fics for any reason. Certainly, there’s a hell of a lot of value to Don’t Like, Don’t Read as a general policy, especially when it comes to the darker, kinkier side of ficwriting, and whether the context is professional or recreational, offering someone direct, unsolicited feedback on their writing style is a dick move. But on the flipside, the anti-criticism culture in fanwriting has consistently worked against fans of colour who speak out about racist tropes, fan ignorance and hurtful portrayals of living cultures. Voicing anything negative about works created for free is seen as violating a core rule of ficwriting culture – but as that culture has been foundationally shaped by white fandoms, white characters and, overwhelmingly, white ideas about what’s allowed and what isn’t, we ought to consider that all critical contexts are not created equal.
Right now, the rise of C-drama (and K-drama, and J-drama) fandoms is seeing a surge of white creators – myself included – writing fics for fandoms in which no white people exist, and where the cultural context which informs the canon is different to western norms. Which isn’t to say that no popular fandoms focused on POC have existed before now – K-pop RPF and anime fandoms, for example, have been big for a while. But with the success of The Untamed, more western fans are investing in stories whose plots, references, characterization and settings are so fundamentally rooted in real Chinese history and living Chinese culture that it’s not really possible to write around it. And yet, inevitably, too many in fandom are trying to do just that, treating respect for Chinese culture or an attempt to understand it as optional extras – because surely, fandom shouldn’t feel like work. If you’re writing something for free, on your own time, for your own pleasure, why should anyone else get to demand that you research the subject matter first?
Because it matters, is the short answer. Because race and culture are not made-up things like lightsabers and werewolves that you can alter, mock or misunderstand without the risk of hurting or marginalizing actual real people – and because, quite frankly, we already know that fandom is capable of drawing lines in the sand where it chooses. When Brony culture first reared its head (hah), the online fandom for My Little Pony – which, like the other fandoms we’re discussing here, is overwhelmingly female – was initially welcoming. It felt like progress, that so many straight men could identify with such a feminine show; a potential sign that maybe, we were finally leaving the era of mainstream hypermasculine fandom bullshit behind, at least in this one arena. And then, in pretty much the blink of an eye, things got overwhelmingly bad. Artists drawing hardcorn porn didn’t tag their works as adult, leading to those images flooding the public search results for a children’s show. Women were edged out of their own spaces. Bronies got aggressive, posting harsh, ugly criticism of artists whose gijinka interpretations of the Mane Six as humans were deemed insufficiently fuckable.
The resulting fandom conflict was deeply unpleasant, but in the end, the verdict was laid down loud and clear: if you cannot comport yourself like a decent fucking person – if your base mode of engagement within a fandom is to coopt it from the original audience and declare it newly cool only because you’re into it now; if you do not, at the very least, attempt to understand and respect the original context so as to engage appropriately (in this case, by acknowledging that the media you’re consuming was foundational to many women who were there before you and is still consumed by minors, and tagging your goddamn porn) – then the rest of fandom will treat you like a social biohazard, and rightly so.
Here’s the thing, fellow white people: when it comes to C-drama fandoms and other non-white, non-western properties? We are the Bronies.
Not, I hasten to add, in terms of toxic fuckery – though if we don’t get our collective shit together, I’m not taking that darkest timeline off the table. What I mean is that, by virtue of the whiteminding which, both consciously and unconsciously, has shaped current fan culture, particularly in terms of ficwriting conventions, we’re collectively acting as though we’re the primary audience for narratives that weren’t actually made with us in mind, being hostile dicks to Chinese and Chinese diaspora fans when they take the time to point out what we’re getting wrong. We’re bristling because we’ve conceived of ficwriting as a place wherein No Criticism Occurs without questioning how this culture, while valuable in some respects, also serves to uphold, excuse and perpetuate microaggresions and other forms of racism, lashing out or falling back on passive aggression when POC, quite understandably, talk about how they’re sick and tired of our bullshit.
An analogy: one of the most helpful and important tags on AO3 is the one for homophobia, not just because it allows readers to brace for or opt out of reading content they might find distressing, but because it lets the reader know that the writer knows what homophobia is, and is employing it deliberately. When this concept is tagged, I – like many others – often feel more able to read about it than I do when it crops up in untagged works of commercial fiction, film or TV, because I don’t have to worry that the author thinks what they’re depicting is okay. I can say definitively, “yes, the author knows this is messed up, but has elected to tell a messed up story, a fact that will be obvious to anyone who reads this,” instead of worrying that someone will see a fucked up story blind and think “oh, I guess that’s fine.” The contextual framing matters, is the point – which is why it’s so jarring and unpleasant on those rare occasions when I do stumble on a fic whose author has legitimately mistaken homophobic microaggressions for cute banter. This is why, in a ficwriting culture that otherwise aggressively dislikes criticism, the request to tag for a certain thing – while still sometimes fraught – is generally permitted: it helps everyone to have a good time and to curate their fan experience appropriately.
But when white and/or western fans fail to educate ourselves about race, culture and the history of other countries and proceed to deploy that ignorance in our writing, we’re not tagging for racism as a thing we’ve explored deliberately; we’re just being ignorant at best and hateful at worst, which means fans of colour don’t know to avoid or brace for the content of those works until they get hit in the face with microaggresions and/or outright racism. Instead, the burden is placed on them to navigate a minefield not of their creation: which fans can be trusted to write respectfully? Who, if they make an error, will listen and apologise if the error is explained? Who, if lived experience, personal translations or cultural insights are shared, can be counted on to acknowledge those contributions rather than taking sole credit? Too often, fans of colour are being made to feel like guests in their own house, while white fans act like a tone-policing HOA.
Point being: fandom and ficwriting cultures as they currently exist badly need to confront the implicit acceptance of racism and cultural bias that underlies a lot of community rules about engagement and criticism, and that needs to start with white and western fans. We don’t want to be the new Bronies, guys. We need to do better.

Saw some cute couple tiktoks and it gave me an idea for a fluffy request!
Just some hc’s of lwaizumi, Ushijima, Suna, and Hinata not understanding the stereotypes of black women when their gf is anything but that. She’s gentle and nurturing with them, can be firm but does so because she cares, calls them sweet nicknames with a smile on her face, makes banging bentos and dinner, and when she’s not wearing any makeup or accessories; her natural beauty just flexes on them with the sun shining on her melanin.
I just want these boys to simp and be like “Aggressive? Loud? Ratchet? *looks around* Where?” But if someone says sumn racist or calls their queen ugly, shit will be on sight.
A/N: Here you go, anon! Hope you like it! (i lowkey made these really long)
💪To say this man is enamored by you would be a massive understatement
💪You have him so far gone, and he wouldn't have it any other way
💪One of his favorite things about being with you is waking up next to you in the morning
💪The sun hits your skin just right, and he swears up and down you're glowing
💪Of course, no one believes him so he takes a picture to prove that you look ethereal, bonnet and all, and you feel your face heat in embarrassment when you find out he's been showing that picture to his friends
💪Since he has to wake up so early in the mornings, he's very careful when he gets out of bed making sure to not wake you
💪But before he gets out of the door, you're always right there, handing him his lunch before cupping his face in your hands, planting soft kisses on his forehead, nose, and lips
💪And if he could fall in love any harder, he definitely does every time you do it
💪He was working with the team at the gym, and he was getting dressed after showering, wanting to fall right into bed with you when he got home
💪He's smiling like a dork at his phone, reading over a text that you sent him, when someone gets his attention
💪It's someone he's become acquainted with, asking him who the person is making him look at his phone the way he is
💪He proudly shows him a picture of you (thankfully nothing embarrassing), and the guy's reaction confuses him
💪"I bet she's annoying, yeah?" he jokes, and Iwaizumi just squints at him, an irritated look on his face
💪The guy laughs his first comment off before making another one. "Like super loud? You know what I mean?"
💪Iwaizumi scoffs darkly as he shakes his head. "Nah, I don't know what you mean, but you don't want me to find out."
💪The guy's playful demeanor drops fear slightly appearing on his face at his tone
💪"Say something like that again, and I'll break you in half." He puts a light tone on his words even though he's dead serious
💪"Have a nice night," he adds, giving him a hard smack on his shoulder before walking out of the gym a lot angrier than he wants to be
💪But he can't help but think about what the guy said, and he hopes that no one's said anything like that to you
💪He finds you with your back against the headboard, scrolling through your phone, the TV playing
💪He drops his bag, instantly flopping down on top of you, and you chuckle softly as you run your fingers through his hair, your nails lightly scratching at his scalp
💪He's so tired that the feeling has him falling asleep instantly, and you ask him how his day was, and he tenses when he remembers the last conversation he had
💪You notice and stop moving your fingers, and rub your hands over his shoulders instead. "You okay, Hajime?" you ask concerned
💪He looks up at you, a look in his eye you can't read. "If anyone says any disrespectful shit to you, let me know, okay?"
💪You at him in confusion but nod your head anyway, and you know he'll tell you when he's not seconds from sleep, and he gives you a warm smile before pressing a soft kiss on your stomach before he finally conks out
🌾You were probably one of the first people to ever make him smile widely
🌾The first time his team sees it, they're more than shocked, and they constantly tease him about the fact that there's someone that could make him smile that big
🌾He loves coming home to you after practice or games, the house filled with the smell of his favorite food
🌾Sometimes he won't even eat, would rather spend his time in your arms until you make him eat
🌾He's always finding himself at a war with himself, the appeal of going out for a morning run sounding awful compared to staying in and laying with you
🌾He would probably do anything you say, whether that's easing up at practice or making sure he's following a new diet that he's been put on which means that, no, he can't have dessert tonight
🌾He comes home one day, crashing in the bed, and you instantly notice that his shoulders are tenser than usual
🌾Your soft is voice but firm as you scold him telling him, "You shouldn't push yourself so hard, baby"
🌾And that's all it takes for all of the tension to drain out of him along with your fingers playing with the hair at the nape of his neck
🌾For a while, you remained a mystery to the team, only Tendou knowing who you were
🌾And it was all because they just outright ask to see what you looked like, so he claims that it just never came up lmfao
🌾So, everyone is surprised when you walk in, and when they see his face light up, like, instantly
🌾They've never seen him move so fast off the court before, all of them floored
🌾He gives you a kiss on your forehead before promising you that he'll be home early and that he won't overwork himself, and then you're out of the gym
🌾He walls back to the team with a light blush on his face, his lips still upturned in a smile as he reads the note you left on his bento
🌾But as soon as he gets to the team, that same stoic expression is back on his face. "What is everyone standing around for?" 💀
🌾He's one of the first people out of the shower after practice, eager to get home, and he's slipping on his shirt when one of his teammates walks up to him
🌾He's slowly working his way up on actually getting playing time, but he just wants to get home, but tunes into the conversation anyway
🌾He asks him if the woman that walked in during practice was his girlfriend, and he gives him a dumb look at his nods his head once
🌾The guy chuckles lightly before saying, "I bet they're all the same, right?"
🌾Ushijima raises an eyebrow at him. "Excuse me?"
🌾The guy scoffs softly, and as he's about to respond, he slams his locker a little more aggressively than usual, making the guy jump
🌾"You should refrain from saying anything disrespectful about my girlfriend and instead work on your shitty receives," he deadpans, his voice hard before he walks out
🌾He didn't want to even begin to answer the conversation, hating how it sounded like the guy was putting you into a certain group
🌾His shoulders are tense when he comes home for a different reason when you hug him, and he's looking at you, but not saying anything
🌾"What're you thinking about?" you comment, lightly pressing on the wrinkles on his forehead. "What's wrong?"
🌾"If anyone says anything awful to you, you tell me immediately," he says quickly, his voice so serious that it makes your eyes widen
🌾"Okay?" he urges, cupping your face softly
🌾"Yeah, of course," you say, nodding quickly, and he smiles before giving your forehead a soft kiss
🦊There's literally nothing that this man doesn't love about you
🦊Like Iwaizumi, swears up and down that you're glowing when the sun hits your skin the morning
🦊If you're sitting anywhere in the house where the sun hits your skin through the blinds, he'll just stare at you until you finally call him out on it
🦊Has whole albums on his phone of just you, and you and him, it literally takes up a huge portion of his phone storage
🦊He's your biggest hype man, will literally have many photoshoots with you
🦊If y'all are driving around and the sun hits you just right, he's pulling over so that you he can take pictures
🦊This man also becomes a huge cuddle when you start dating, or more like he always wants to be wrapped in your arms or on top of you in some way, shape, or form
🦊This is mostly because your touches are so soft, that it puts him to sleep instantly
🦊It could be your fingers running through his hair, your hands rubbing up and down his back, or when you massage his shoulders after a game
🦊His soft snores fill the room like five minutes after you start
🦊He is very aware of the stuff that you have to deal with, microaggressions and all, and he's quick to shut it down
🦊Matter of fact, it's probably one of his favorites things to do
🦊He likes watching the people who make the backhanded compliments lose all of their bravado lmfao
🦊There was one time where he was hanging out with Atsumu, catching up with him, and he ran into someone that he vaguely remembered from high school
🦊Somehow you came up in the conversation, and Suna was more than proud to show him a picture of you because you're like smoking hot and he loves showing you off lmfao
🦊But he already knows where the conversation is going when he sees the guy's reaction
🦊"Isn't she like--" His comment is cut off when Suna squints at him, Atsumu hiding his chuckle being his hand
🦊"Isn't she like what? Hm?" he hums. "What stupid shit are you about to say?"
🦊The guy tries to backtrack, but Suna cuts him off. "Oh, no, please say whatever you were about to say, I'm all ears," he drawls, his eyebrows raised, having way too much fun
🦊The guy's babbling now, stuttering over his words, and Suna claps a hand down on his shoulder. "Pull that shit again and I'll kill you, yeah?"
🦊He gives him a wink before squeezing his shoulder hard. "Nice talking to you," he jokes before he walks away
🦊And best believe that he will fight anyone that thinks that shit is okay
🍊He's constantly floored by you
🍊When his eyes first landed on you, the world disappeared around him, and it still does every time his eyes land on you
🍊Stares at you a ton until he just tackles you in a hug or kisses
🍊This happens a lot lmao, and you've just learned to let it happen
🍊You're always there making sure he's taking care of himself like making sure he's drinking enough water when he's out in the sun for a long time
🍊He literally eats everything that you cook, and this man eats a lot
🍊He always asks you to come with him whenever he's playing volleyball out in the sand
🍊He tells you it's because he just wants you to be there to watch him, but he's mostly watching you and how your skin glows under the sunlight
🍊He comes up with cute, corny captions whenever he posts pictures of you
🍊Like, "my sunshine under the sunlight," corny stuff like that 💀
🍊His energy seems to be even higher whenever he's with you, and sometimes you have to put your hands on his shoulders to stop him from bouncing
🍊He always asks you to put sunscreen on his face because he likes how softly you apply it, and you always kiss his forehead before you put it on, and it makes him swoon
🍊His friends tease him about how his attention span on actually playing volleyball drops whenever he brings you with him
🍊And he's like "can you blame me???"
🍊Like, all you could be doing is laying there while you're reading or on your phone and he'll stop in the middle of the game or during a break and kiss you before going back to playing
🍊And let someone say something disrespectful about you, and his happy demeanor literally disappears
🍊Some guy that joined their game one day when they were down a player made some comment like "is that your girlfriend? Really?"
🍊And the pride he was beaming about being your boyfriend changes
🍊The smile falls off of his face, and he's stepping closer to the guy, his face goes hard
🍊And he lowers his voice so that his words are out of your earshot
🍊He gives him a dark chuckle. "Say it again, I dare you."
🍊The guy's eyes widen at his tone, and then that signature smile is back on his face. "Watch what you say next time, or I won't hesitate to find you."
🍊The guy is taken aback, and Hinata just walks away, making his way towards you
🍊You haven't seen him yet, and he's laying down on top of you, and you protest about him being sweaty and covered in sand
🍊"You know I love you, right?" You bristle in surprise, a small smile on your face before you nod
🍊"You're amazing in literally every way, and don't listen to anyone that says anything different."
🍊You're confused at the sudden declaration as you reply with, "Thank you, Sho. And I love you, too."
🍊And then he's smiling widely at you, brighter than the sun before he's pecking you on the lips before getting off of you and running back towards the court

my best habit || aaron hotchner x reader (prologue)
Summary: When Aaron Hotchner ended your affair with him, saying that a serial killer was going after him and his family, you were content with the idea that you'd probably never see him again. Two years have come and gone since then, but when you get dragged into an FBI investigation as a key witness, you and Hotch are forced to come face to face with all the things left unsaid.
Warnings: Age gap (15-ish years), smut, degradation, unprotected sex. This story is 18+ older. This is not a story for minors.
A/N: Hello, hello!! I figured that since I've made a writing tumblr, I should post my story on here!! This is a multichapter story, so I am very excited to go on this journey with y'all!! I already have multiple chapters written and published, so these should be coming out VERY quickly. If you don't want to wait to catch up, you can read everything I have on ao3! This chapter starts as a flashback, and then the next chapter and the rest from here on out will be actual plot!
masterlist || read on ao3
“If you were waitin’ on the sunshine, blue sky
Cheap high, lullaby
Then my best habit’s letting you down”
- The Maine, “My Best Habit”
Two years earlier
Your eyes scanned the University Ballroom, your champagne glass practically ignored in your hand. You hated all these alumni networking galas and avoided going to them as much as possible. Old, sleazy lawyers with much younger women on their arm reliving their best cases with each other and expecting all the new law students to laugh when they were able to get their defendant acquitted because of some dumb technicality. It made you sick.
It didn’t help that you were already going in with a bad attitude. Your ex-boyfriend had dropped by your apartment that morning to pick up the rest of his stuff, and he decided that the best person to help him with that was the girl he had been cheating on you with. You caught them together three weeks ago, and you had been so stressed from midterms that you hadn’t even had the chance to go out, get drunk, and have wildly irresponsible rebound sex.
But you had to suck it up for the night, at least until you were able to get the answer you came for. After that, you could go back to your apartment, replace your too tight and too short dress with some nice pajamas, and watch trashy reality TV until you passed out on your couch.
You scanned the room a few more times until you caught sight of a tall man in a dark suit leaning against the bar. Bingo. You set your champagne flute down and ran over to him as fast as your heels could take you. Once you were just a few steps away, you quickly composed yourself and walked straight into his line of sight.
SSA Aaron Hotchner rarely came to alumni events here at George Washington Law School, citing that he wasn’t even a prosecutor anymore and had much more important work to do back at the BAU, but he was going as favor to his old law school buddy. Plus, it was either coming to this or going out to the bar with the team, and seeing as he had just signed the divorce papers with Haley, he wanted to be somewhere he wasn’t going to be profiled all night. The free champagne was also a bonus.
When you saw that his name was on the RSVP list, you knew that you had to go.
“Agent Hotchner?” you asked, giving him your best straight A student smile.
He refused to look up right away, not giving you the chance to charm him. “I’m not currently on duty. If there is a case you would like the BAU to look over, that’s handled by our media liaison,” he said absently, taking another sip of champagne.
You frowned but kept your hand out for him to shake. “That’s not what I’m here for, I-” You took a breath to compose yourself. “My name is Y/N Y/L/N. I’m a first year here- getting a joint JD and masters in forensic psychology. My goal is to become a prosecutor,” you pressed, and you were rewarded when he perked up in interest. He slid his drink on the table.
“Most law firms don’t usually want a prosecutor who’s going to empathize with the person you’re prosecuting,” he mused, and shook your hand, his grip just tight enough to pass as faux politeness.
You shook your head and clasped your hands behind your back, trying to ignore how warm his hands were. “I think the best prosecutors empathize with the defendants,” you admitted. “Isn’t that how you succeeded as both a prosecutor and as a federal agent? That’s actually why I came to you, I wanted to ask you a question... about my thesis,” you added quickly, figuring that the best way to get him to talk to you.
Aaron’s posture changed from half asleep to maybe listening, and your face went red. Sure, you only came to the event to talk to him, but you never thought that you’d actually get Aaron Hotchner to pay attention to you. “I didn’t empathize with the people I was putting in jail,” he told you, his voice ice cold. “That didn’t come until I worked in the BAU, and even now, I wouldn’t call it empathy. Just understanding of how they became the type of person they are.” He leaned sideways on the bar counter and you felt yourself shrink under his gaze. You shifted slightly and felt the hem of your dress move up your thighs ever so slightly. Aaron noticed too, if the lick of his lips was anything to go by.
You took his silence as your signal to ask your question. “You offered Jessica Michaelson a lesser sentence that had her released in just three years despite the fact that she murdered her brother in cold blood in his sleep. You had the evidence, why didn’t you push for premeditation?” you asked, and his eyebrow quirked upwards. “In the case The People vs. Michaelson,” you added unnecessarily, trying to break the silence.
“I know the case you’re referring to. I was the lead on it,” he reminded you, his voice edging on dangerous. “You know, most people aren’t interested in my days as a lawyer.”
You shrugged, hoping to appear more confident than you felt. “I’m not most people,” you agreed, biting down on your lower lip. His gaze was so intense, and it was affecting you in ways you couldn’t have imagined. It was turning you on, you realized with a start. It had been a while since you had last had sex, and it was driving you only slightly crazy. “But that doesn’t answer my question.”
Aaron grabbed a champagne flute from a server walking by, and shoved it in your direction. You grabbed it cautiously. “Did you read the police report on the case?” he asked, and you nodded wordlessly, taking a sip of the champagne. The alcohol was making you bolder, and you stepped towards him. “Then you’ll know that there was very little physical evidence tying her to the muder. We chose to offer the charge that would have stuck instead of risking her being found not guilty.”
You gritted your teeth together in an effort to calm yourself down. “She murdered four people within the six months after she was released from prison,” you reminded him.
That seemed to have struck a chord with Aaron, and his steely persona seemed to fade ever so slightly. He sighed exasperatedly; you were obviously getting on his nerves. “The prints and DNA that were collected and put into VICAP when she was in prison are what got her caught in the end, and that was the evidence needed to lock her away for life. We wouldn’t have gotten those prints without her original charge. It all worked out.”
You groaned and threw your hands in the air. “You couldn’t have predicted that, though,” you argued. “And people have been found guilty with way less evidence than you had in the original case. I think you just felt bad for her, considering her brother was a real piece of shit.” You were being difficult now, you knew that. But there was something about Aaron Hotcher that was pulling you in, and you wanted to see how far you could push him.
Aaron gave you a predatory grin and he stepped towards you ever so slightly, finishing his drink. He must have had multiple drinks too, judging by the soft flush on his face. “Oh, you do?” He seemed amused now. He slowly raked his eyes from your face, down your neck, and down the rest of your body, and you forgot how to breath. You knew that it was inappropriate and that he was a highly respected FBI agent, even if he was kind of an asshole at the moment. You also knew that the two of you were crossing lines that neither of you should have even been close to, but you shivered under the weight of his gaze all the same.
You shifted back and forth, your brain trying to process what was happening. “Yeah, I do. And I know that you transferred to the FBI after Michaelson was arrested again, which makes me think that this case was your breaking point,” you ranted, your hands becoming more and more animated.
Aaron chuckled, but there was very little amusement behind it. “Are you sure you want to be a lawyer?” he asked, cocking his head to the side. “Because you’re starting to talk like a profiler.”
You arched an eyebrow at him. “No thanks,” you said firmly, and he just shrugged before making a move to walk past you. You sidestepped in front of him, effectively blocking him from going anywhere. But it was obvious that he was done talking about this.
In your mind, you had two options now. You could keep pushing him about a case that he obviously didn’t want to talk to you about, or you could switch gears in your brain and have him help you solve your... other problem. Aaron was attractive, and you were getting tired of guys your age. You noticed the distinct lack of a wedding ring on his finger, but there was still a tan to show that it had been there. So either he was recently separated or just trying to cheat on his wife. You wanted to not care whichever it was, but a pang in your heart told you to be considerate. Besides, you did not want to get involved with another cheater.
“Must be hard to be at these events without your wife here to scare off all the lonely female law students,” you mused cautiously. You didn’t want to come on too strong, but the alcohol in your system was slowly clouding your ability to be subtle.
Aaron cleared his throat, obviously taken aback by the sudden shift in conversation. “I’m not married,” he said, too quickly and too defensively. So he’s separated, you thought, and you stepped closer to him.
His eyebrows furrowed as he tried to figure out your endgame. “Well, I would love to discuss your work as a prosecutor more when there are less… distractions around,” you whispered, your words breathy. “Tell me Agent Hotchner, do I make you nervous?” You sounded a lot more confident than you felt.
Aaron just smirked and grabbed your free hand, covering it in both of his, and the action was surprisingly soft, even if it was way too late for him to try acting suave. His eyes, on the other hand, told a whole other story. His pupils were so dilated that his eyes were practically black. “I face the worst people in society on a daily basis. Desperate law students don’t make me nervous. In fact…” He stepped towards you, looking around to make sure nobody else was looking. Aaron leaned in close, his lips brushing against your ear with every word. “I think that I make you nervous. And more than nervous, I make you very excited.”
Your breath hitched as he pulled back, a smug smile gracing his lips. You yanked your hand back to preserve what little dignity you had left, but it was too late. “Now, if you would like to discuss my prosecuting career more in depth, then you can set up a formal meeting with me at the BAU,” he continued, obviously proud of himself and the effect he was having on you. He pulled out a business card and upon further instruction, you realized that it wasn’t even his. Jennifer Jareu the name read. “Our media liaison will be able to help you organize that. Now if you don’t mind, I am going to retire for the night.”
Aaron finished the rest of his drink and brushed past you while you were still trying to get your thoughts under control. “Oh, and you’ll make a wonderful lawyer someday, I’m sure of it,” he called over his shoulder, and that snapped you back into action.
You followed, running around him and cutting him off. “And if I don’t want to discuss your prosecuting career?” you asked, batting your eyelashes at him. “What if I was interested in a… less formal meeting?”
That was all the permission he needed. Aaron grabbed your hand and pulled you out of the ballroom, the two of you moving so fast that nobody in the room even had a chance to put two and two together. There was an empty hallway just next to the entrance of the room and Aaron pulled you in that direction, pressing you against the wall and kissing you fiercely the second the two of you were alone.
There was nothing gentle about the kiss, but in a strange role reversal, he let you take the lead. It’s certainly not what you expected from Aaron Hotchner who, until now, had been controlling every aspect of your meeting. You realized then that this was his way of making sure you were okay with what was happening- giving you a chance to back out and change your mind. You just answered by tangling your hands in his hair, pulling so that he was at just the right angle to kiss you.
Aaron dug his fingers into your hips, hard enough to make you gasp out. You were definitely going to have bruises the next day, but you couldn’t be bothered to care. He shoved his leg in between yours and tugged on your lip with his teeth, which made you whimper involuntarily. He smirked against your lips, obviously proud of the noises he was drawing from you. You pulled on his hair harder as a sign of irritation, but that seemed to only make him more amused as he pulled away to laugh into your neck.
“Are we just going to make out against a wall like we’re back in high school, or are you going to actually do something worth my time?” you breathe, fighting to keep your voice even and light. It only halfway worked as he dragged his tongue up your neck to your pulse point. And then he bit down, hard.
It took everything in your power to stay quiet, especially as he softly kissed the newly forming bruise. His attack on your neck was relentless as he pulled your hips and back forth against his thigh. You whimpered as you desperately tried to get any friction from the simple movement. Your skirt was now dangerously close to being pushed so far up your legs that you would be completely exposed.
You pulled away first- you had to or your legs were going to completely give out from under you. You desperately tried to get your breathing under control and, to your annoyance, he looked perfectly composed. The only thing giving him away was his slightly swollen lips.
His fingers trailed up your thigh, getting so close to where you want him. “What would you like me to do then?” he asked easily, his voice almost sounding bored. You were speechless, like your brain had just short circuited. There were a lot of things you wanted him to do, but the words were lost on the tip of your tongue. “If you want something, you have to ask for it.” That was a demand, and he punctuated it by pressing his thigh further into you. You were sure he was going to have a wet spot on his slacks. He took the hand not in between your legs and grabbed your jaw forcefully, his thumb resting on your bottom lip. “Use your words, little girl.”
You realize that the two of you were standing on the edge of a cliff, and you had the power to decide whether or not to jump over. It gave you a strange sense of power. Logically, you knew it was a bad idea. He was too old for you, obviously going through some sort of relationship trauma, and wasn’t somebody you could talk to your friends and family about. But the less rational side wanted him so badly it hurt. You wanted him more than you’ve wanted anything or anyone in a long time.
You noticed your strawberry colored lipstick was smudged ever so slightly on the corner of his mouth, and that’s all it took for you to jump off the side of the cliff. “I want you to drag me into the empty classroom just down the hall and fuck me senseless. I want you to use me,” you moan before taking his thumb into your mouth and sucking.
The look on his face is something you’ll never forget. There was a mix of shock and arousal, but also something primitive; His eyes darkened when you told him to use you, and there was a fluttering in your stomach. You couldn’t tell if it was from excitement or dread. Maybe even both.
He removed his hands from your mouth and legs, only to place his hand on the small of your back. He began walking towards the classroom you had pointed out, much too slow for your liking, but he knew exactly what he was doing. “You’re going to regret asking me to use you,” he practically growls in your ear, each word increasing your arousal. “Are you one of those lonely female law students you warned me about? So desperate and needy for a real man to bend you over a table and fuck you until you can’t walk straight? Ready and willing to whore yourself out for the first man who gives you a second glance?”
Your breath hitched as you stuttered out your answer. “Y-yes, Agent Hotchner,” you whispered as he opened the classroom door and guided you in.
As soon as the door was shut and locked, he was back on your lips again, lifting you so that you were sitting on one of the desks with your legs wrapped around his waist. “Call me Aaron,” he mumbled in between kisses, and you were all too happy to oblige.
You were a moaning mess at this point as his hands pushed your dress up to your waist. His hands and lips were somehow everywhere at once and you were so hot and all you could think about was getting your damn dress off, but Aaron seemed to have other plans.
He ran his fingers up your lace covered slit and he just chuckled into your lips. “You’re so wet for me, already,” he groaned and you let out an embarrassingly loud moan. “And I’ve barely touched you. Do my words really have that much effect on you? Do you like it when I call you a whore?”
He hooked his fingers under the waistband of your panties and quickly pulled them down. You could feel his bulge pressing against you and all you could think about was how badly you wanted it. How badly you wanted him. Your hands moved down his chest to make quick work of his belt, and his pants followed after.
“Please, please Aaron,” you begged, desperately trying to create some friction against him. His fingers tangled in your hair and he pulled your head back so that you were looking at him.
“You’re so pretty when you beg.” His fingers slowly ran up your slit, not enough to give you any pleasure. He was teasing you and enjoying every second of it. “And I wish I could take my time with you. The things I want to do to you…” Two of his fingers entered you and you cried out loudly. “But somebody could walk in on us at any second. I’m sure they can all hear you moaning like a dirty whore, all for me. But you’d like that, wouldn’t you? So desperate for my attention and approval.”
His words turned you on more than you would have liked to admit. “Yes, Aaron yes. Please-” you were cut off by Aaron curling his fingers, hitting that spot that made you want to scream out in pleasure. But all too soon, they were gone.
He inspected his fingers, which were now covered in your juices, before bringing them to your mouth. “Suck,” he ordered, and you eagerly complied, wrapping your lips around his fingers and moaning at the taste of yourself. “I’ll just have to fuck you quickly here, and then you’ll be begging for more next time,” he groaned and finally- finally- entered you.
He didn’t give you time to adjust to him, thrusting roughly into you. He removed his fingers from your mouth and brought his hand to your neck. He didn’t put any pressure, but he wanted you to know that he could and would if you decided to get mouthy with him.
Your hands gripped the edge of the desk you were sitting on, your knuckles turning white. Your eyes started to close in pleasure as his hips slammed into yours, but they shot open as he tightened his grip on your throat. “Look at me. I want to see you when you cum,” he ordered, and you nodded the best you could.
“Yes sir!” you cried out, unsure of what else to say.
Seemingly satisfied with your answer, Aaron released your throat and moved his hand down so that he was stimulating your clit. You could feel the coil in your stomach tighten as your legs started to twitch. Aaron took this as motivation to slam into you even harder, relishing each time you gasped out his name.
His pace was unforgiving, leaving you gasping for air. Keeping your eyes open was a challenge, but you were able to do it with his soft mutters of praise. “Even brats like you can be good girls,” he groaned, his thrusts becoming erratic. “You just need somebody to fuck it into you.”
You were unable to respond coherently, so you just settled on begging even more, although you weren’t sure what you were begging for exactly. Aaron seemed to know, and he sped up his fingers against your clit. You wanted to scream out for him, but your voice wasn’t working. “What did I say before?” he asks roughly. “If you want something, ask for it.”
“Please… please can I cum?” you cried out, feeling yourself getting close to the edge. “Please let me cum around your cock!”
He nodded in approval and you had to muffle yourself in his neck to keep quiet. He fucked you through your orgasm, the overstimulation almost too much, but it wasn’t long before he was moaning your name, and you felt him fill you.
The two of you stayed like that for a few moments, both breathing heavily as the situation started to sink in. You just let a guy almost 15 years older than you that you just met fuck you in an empty classroom, and you really enjoyed it. Aaron, on the other hand, looked like he was going through a full crisis.
He pulled out of you slowly, and you winced at the feeling. He pulled up his pants quickly. “Fuck,” he muttered under his breath, looking around the empty classroom. “I don’t have anything good to clean you up with.” A box of kleenex caught his eye and he grabbed a few tissues. It was better than nothing.
You chuckled nervously and waved it off. “It’s fine,” you promised, your voice coming out shakier than you expected, but he ignored you. He wiped the mess dripping down your thighs. You were cold. He must have noticed, because he took off his suit jacket and wrapped it around your shoulders.
“Are you okay?” Aaron asked softly, and it was a full 180 from the way he had just been talking to you.
“I’m great,” you admitted honestly. “Seriously, that was… great.”
Aaron smiled at you- the first real smile he had given you all night. “It wasn’t too much?” he confirmed, and you suddenly remembered what he had said to you earlier. ...then you’ll be begging for more next time. Was he planning on a next time? You wouldn’t have minded it.
You shook your head and slowly slid off the table. You took one of the tissues and wiped up the mess that was left on the table. “Not at all. In fact, I could take more. Next time.” Your voice was light and airy. Aaron watched as you picked your underwear off the floor. There was no way you were putting those back on, not when you had no idea when the floor was last cleaned.
“Don’t make promises you can’t keep,” he teased, eyeing you carefully.
“Well I can’t keep it if I only have your media liaison’s number,” you reminded him, your eyebrow raised. Aaron chuckled and pulled out another business card, except this time it was his. You plucked the card out of his hands and inspected it carefully. “I’ll call you sometime. You can do all those other things we didn’t have time to do.” You were on your tiptoes now, whispering in his ear. “You know… my mouth can do a lot more than just ask for things.” As you spoke, you slipped your panties into his back pocket. You just laughed as you heard a soft gasp escape his lips.
You made your way towards the door, your legs wobbling dangerously underneath you. You were sure that you looked like a mess, but you didn’t care. All that mattered to you was Aaron Hotchner’s eyes glued to your ass. “Get home safe,” he told you and you let yourself smile. Maybe it was a bad idea to start sleeping with a recent divorcee, but the sex was great and you both knew where you stood with the other person. No feelings, just fucking out your frustrations and stress.
Oh yeah, coming to this event was definitely a good call on your part.

Movies I watched in July
Once again I’m doing my monthly round-up of movies I’ve watched. This was a good month for the cinema getting back on track and seeing new releases including the new M. Night movie, Old and James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad. Pretty sure Marvel put out a new movie also. I’m hoping that this list can help in guiding a decision about what to watch (or what to avoid) and introduce people to movies they may otherwise not have heard of or bothered to see. These short reviews are my own subjective opinions on each individual movie and maybe a more informal approach to movie criticism can help include others who are just passing through. Here is every film I watched from the 1st to the 31st of July.
Bridesmaids (2011) - 4/10
Off to a good start. I won’t say Bridesmaids is a terrible movie but I don’t think I’m exactly the target audience. As far as I know, this is a beloved comedy but I just can’t get on board with all the boring, juvenile humour; with Maya Rudolph shitting in the street, with Rose Byrne and Kristen Wiig trying to one-up each other at a toast that went on forever, with Melissa McCarthy shitting in a sink… the conflict is so done to death and makes the movie feel unspecial. I do understand the appeal of the film, especially for women in that before this movie the likelihood of seeing something like this, where women play up the more crass and gross side of comedy, was probably few and far between. But the story is very tired and while I did appreciate some moments, namely a couple of decent jokes and some of the more intimate scenes, for the most part it felt like they wanted to corner a more quiet type of line delivery in a way that was supposed to be understated but very funny so as to not rely on over the top body language or musical cues, and it ended up being super dull.
Spectre (2015) - 7/10
As far as I can tell, a lot of people don’t like this instalment of the James Bond franchise… but I really enjoyed it! I’ve really taken a shine to these Daniel Craig-era Bond movies and while I can’t say any of them are the most amazing thing, I have a lot of fun with them. The biggest problem I have with Spectre is the villain being utterly pointless and uninteresting in basically every way. The idea of every villain Bond has fought before being tied to this one organisation controlled by this one guy is ridiculous, and what makes it worse is that the villain is barely in it! There’s so much that doesn’t come together in this but as it goes, I still had a really good time. Daniel Craig holds the whole thing together; he is excellent as 007 and the main reason I’m up for each of these movies is because of him. Sam Mendes directs again after the previous instalment and for what it’s worth I do think he does a good job with some of the action set pieces and the locations. I’m so ready for No Time To Die.
Shazam (2019) - 7/10
Shazam is a genuinely fun superhero movie that doesn’t take itself seriously at all. I was having a great time throughout and while it could conform to some of the same tropes we’re used to with these kinds of movies, it still remained playful and used the character of Shazam to his fullest potential in a way that showed an understanding of just how silly the idea of a kid who can turn into an adult and shoot lightning out of his hands is.
High School Musical (2006) - 6/10
So as you may or may not know, I co-host a podcast: The Sunday Movie Marathon. It’s a film podcast and every week I get together with my other co-hosts and watch movies. For episode 38, we watched the High School Musical trilogy. This first movie blew me away. I was really surprised with just how much fun I had, and if you want to hear more of my thoughts on the film, please listen to episode 38 of the podcast.
High School Musical 2 (2007) - 4/10
We then jumped into the second and while it’s certainly not as good as its predecessor, there are still some brilliant songs that manage to top the last movie. Again, more of what I have to say can be heard on episode 38 of the podcast.
High School Musical 3: Senior Year (2008) - 3/10
Senior Year was pretty hard to get through. I don’t remember it being as bad as it was, but then I didn’t really remember it anyway. It did however have one redeeming quality, which you can discover on episode 38 of the podcast.
The Piano Teacher (2001) - 9/10
What the fuuuckkkk. The Piano Teacher is horrendously affecting and I was so upset when it ended, maybe not because it’s not what I wanted but because it’s just so fucking dour and unrelenting. This is the second Haneke movie I’ve seen (after the original Funny Games) and I’m so impressed with how well executed it is. Following a woman who teaches piano, we get a glimpse into the life she lives, how sheltered she is from living with her mother at an age where you’d reasonably expect a person to be living alone or with a partner or friends (even going so far as to be sleeping in the same bed as her), and how repressed she is sexually. It’s clear she’s never experienced any kind of sexual interaction or romantic love with another person, so she goes out of her way to take control and make that happen. The upsetting nature of it comes from just what she does in pursuit of it or as a result of her repression, and what is done to her. It is by no means a movie to recommend to your parents but The Piano Teacher offers so much in terms of the ideas it presents (and I’ll admit there seems to be a lot more going on than I think I picked up on a first go round) about women in modern society, and about the portrayal of sex and expectations of people when it comes to how that is represented in a person’s character depending on their gender. I really enjoyed this movie but it is not for the faint of heart.
Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure (2011) - 1/10
My podcast co-hosts decided it’d be a right laugh to add Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure to this episode and that might have been a fun idea for them because they got to watch it together, but I was just watching it alone. Just a 24-year-old man watching Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure alone and having a miserable time, I might add. But for a short and sweet ramble on what we all thought, please listen to episode 38 of The Sunday Movie Marathon podcast.
Dr. No (1962) - 6/10
A lot of very iffy parts of this movie. A lot of discomfort arising from how black people are portrayed that really didn’t sit right with me. As far as a Bond movie goes, this first instalment in the series is one I’ve seen before and it’s not wholly engaging but it plants the seeds for the rest, with Sean Connery breathing life into the role and making an otherwise lacklustre plot bearable.
Black Widow (2021) - 6/10
I think probably the best part about Black Widow is the experience I had while watching it. It was great being back in the cinema with a couple of friends in a packed theatre. The energy was high and I’m sure for a lot of people, this is the first time they’d been to the cinema since Endgame. For what it’s worth, I did have a lot of fun with Black Widow and I’ve explained more of what I thought about the movie in episode 39 of the podcast.
The Climb (2020) - 10/10
The Climb was added to Now TV recently and I already knew I loved it, having seen it in an empty cinema theatre last year, which I had an absolute blast with. The Climb details the years of a rocky friendship told over scenes filmed as one-shots. Not only is the presentation something to gawk at, but the performances by the two leads playing these friends with a terrifically dysfunctional dynamic is truly captivating. They’re both trying to figure out their own lives and where one can come across as being rather selfish, the opposite is true in his counterpart, whom everyone loves. This is a truly funny and heartwarming movie with a lot to say about how we choose to live our lives and who we choose to be with. It’s a shame the distributors of The Climb didn’t do a very good job because if not for it being available on Now TV, it would be near impossible to watch without forking out more money than is necessary to purchase a film.
From Russia With Love (1963) - 5/10
The second Bond movie. I thought perhaps I’d change my mind on it with another watch, having seen it for the first time maybe a year ago. But no, it’s still largely boring and it treats women like absolute garbage. From Russia With Love is one of those movies I forget as I watch it, and I was trying very hard (in the middle of the day!) not to fall asleep.
The Good, The Bart, and The Loki (2021) - 1/10
I don't usually talk about the short films I watch but for this I'll make an exception. As we all should know, Disney owns The Simpsons now, through their acquisition of Fox, so, coupled with another of their properties, that being Marvel, they decided to make a six-minute animated film wherein Marvel’s Loki is stranded in Springfield. This felt as though it was a minute long due to the horrendously jarring pacing; it is a movie that feels adamant that it needs to exist, while trying as hard as it can to be over as soon as possible. It serves only to stare the audience directly in the face and say “look, characters from The Simpsons are dressed as Avengers”, shit out three credit scenes, then end before you’ve even processed the atrocity you just bore witness to.
Russian Ark (2002) - 8/10
For this next episode of the podcast, we watched a few Russian movies, starting with Russian Ark, a film shot completely in one take as the camera moves about a luxurious museum in a first-person perspective as this main character watches what is happening around him, seeing people moving about the place but unable to interact with them, guided only by another man who seems to be just slightly out of his own perception of reality. This is a tremendous feat in filmmaking and more can be heard about what I have to say in episode 39 of The Sunday Movie Marathon podcast.
Ivan’s Childhood (1962) - 7/10
For my own pick of Russian movies to discuss on the podcast, I chose the debut feature from one of my favourite directors, Andrei Tarkovsky. It’s amazing that while this is not his best film by far, Ivan’s Childhood is still such a stellar debut, jumping around in its timeline as it details a child’s experience in the second world war. Again, I do go into more depth in episode 39 of the podcast, so be sure to check that out.
Outlaw (2019) - 1/10
The third movie chosen for this marathon is apparently the fourth Russian LGBTQ+ movie ever made. I’m unsure of the ultimate goal of this movie but what seems to be clear is that it hates the LGBTQ+ community. This is perhaps the worst film we’ve discussed on the podcast to date, so listen to episode 39 to understand exactly why it’s such trash.
Almost Famous (2000) - 7/10
I too love heavy music and also studied journalism so it stands to reason that a movie about a teenager who makes his way onto a band tour, following them through America and interviewing them as they hang out and play shows is going to be a premise that resonates with me. This certainly did. I enjoyed Almost Famous a lot; this kid is living the dream and I was so along for the ride, seeing a lot of myself in what was being portrayed. That said, the story itself is at times a bit by the numbers and I really would’ve been more on board if the visual component was more interesting. For what it is, technically it’s fine enough but nothing in that department ever jumped out at me.
Minari (2021) - 8/10
It’s crazy that this didn’t get a theatrical run where I live in the UK. It feels as though I complain about film distribution all the time but I really don’t understand the process by which a movie gets no cinematic release and yet, months later will pop up on the front shelf of hmv, taking pride of place. But of course I got the blu-ray straight away. Minari has a lot to say about the immigrant experience, specifically in America as a family comes over from Korea and tries to start a business and make something of themselves. You get to see a lot of what you might not think twice about when you think about immigration: the hardship of coming from a place where you know everyone to somewhere rural and sparsely populated, having to make friends with locals and integrate within the community; the strain it can put on a family and on a marriage where this idea is presented about the importance of making it on your own in order to live and not just survive, while also taking into account why you’re doing it in the first place and the value you place on being part of a family that you decided to make because that was more important than money, than economy, than proving you were good enough to make it in a place that gave you very little advantage from the offset. This concept of the promised land, of the American dream is a construct. There are times when it’s not pretty, when you have no running water, or you’re in debt, or a family member is dying and it just feels like you’ve been dealt as bad a hand as you can get. But it is better to know you’re not facing all that alone.
Roma (2018) - 10/10
This was my recommendation for the podcast episode on Alfonso Cuarón movies. Roma is as beautiful as it is heart-wrenching and I would recommend listening to episode 40 of the podcast to find out more about my thoughts.
An American Werewolf In London (1981) - 8/10
In all fairness, London is enough to make anyone a little crazy at the best of times. An American Werewolf in London showcases some fantastically grotesque effects, akin to something like Carpenter’s The Thing, in showing the dead brought back to life and a horrifically gory transformation scene. Although the film is from the perspective of an American protagonist, directed also by an American, the depiction of British culture and climate is something I’ve not seen many films pull off quite so well, and I was pleasantly surprised at the more comedic tone the film has overall, which is something that works more in its favour than straight horror would.
The Party’s Just Beginning (2018) - 6/10
Karen Gillan’s directorial debut is… pretty good! There are a lot of ideas I like in this movie: a woman living life and through convenient circumstances, is confronted with death in many ways. Gillan obviously knows her homeland as well as she can, imbuing the whole thing with an intensely Scottish vibe (though maybe not in the same vein as something like Trainspotting) that makes it a bit more unique than a more run of the mill movie of this ilk, backed up in no small part by her own main performance. The plot itself is no great diversion from the kind of story I’m used to with these smaller movies and for something that’s trying to include messaging about transgender issues and suicide, it probably could have been handled better or done in a different way.
Solaris (1972) - 9/10
Another Tarkovsky joint, one I thought I’d revisit to see if there was indeed more to get out of it a second time. Well, it’s no surprise that yes, there was certainly more to get out of it. Solaris is a crazy trip of a movie and I would liken it to Kubrick’s 2001 in terms of how grand the scale of it feels. Yet this is a film that comes across as deeply personal, choosing to focus on a specific character as he goes to a space station to help those on board who are experiencing some kind of emotional crises, only to feel the effects of the planet, Solaris invading his own mind as it has the crew. To many, I can see this lengthy Russian sci-fi being a tad slow but my personal experience is one of deep engagement. Solaris pulls its viewer in a lot of different directions and it is always doing something unexpected in terms of where its narrative goes. There’s a lot to think about with the movie and thankfully it’s no chore to watch again.
Y Tu Mamá También (2001) - 9/10
Another recommendation for the podcast episode on Alfonso Cuarón movies. This is a very relaxed experience, following three young people as they go on a road trip, visit different places and have sex. Listen to episode 40 of The Sunday Movie Marathon podcast for more of my thoughts.
Children of Men (2006) - 10/10
My favourite Cuarón movie, one that never stops being tense as its characters are constantly moving towards the end goal. Set in a future where humans are infertile, the oldest living person is 18, and London is the last city in the world that’s still keeping it together, somewhat. This is masterclass filmmaking. Listen to episode 40 of the podcast for more insights.
Minority Report (2002) - 5/10
I’m really not the biggest fan of Spielberg… Minority Report is an interesting movie in terms of its concept of stopping crimes before they happen by way of prediction, but I just didn’t connect with the heart of it. The colouring is way too overexposed in a way that’s supposed to be eliciting a futuristic vibe but instead feels so early-2000’s in the worst way. My biggest problem with Minority Report is just how long it is, clocking in at two hours and twenty-five minutes which allows for a lot of meandering, all while never quite developing characters enough for you to care about.
Caché (2005) - 9/10
Oh god! Another Michael Haneke movie! Here we see a couple periodically sent video tapes featuring hours of footage of the outside of their house. The anxiety ratchets up and the mystery gets deeper with every minute. There’s always at least one moment in any of his films that have so far made me realise just how out of my depth I am. Caché is no exception, and I won’t spoil anything here because I think it’s better just to watch the movie and see for yourself. He is a director that wants the audience to know something and that something is never what is explicitly shown at face value; it is pressed into the fabric of the film - plainly evident, yet hidden. Caché is so stupidly clever in displaying its themes and messaging - making reference to the Siene Massacre of 1961 as well as a deeper study of colonialism - and there’s no way to change a single detail of it without risking the Jenga tower crumbling to the ground. It all works in tandem. It is passion and fury and haunting.
Coco (2017) - 7/10
Pixar had a string of around seven forgettable movies before this point so thankfully Coco emerged to show the company still had something good in them. Coco deals a lot with themes of death and legacy, remembering those who are gone in order to preserve them and while its plotting is quite basic and there are certainly moments that either drag or cannot escape the same Pixar formula, most of what the movie has to offer is a lot of fun, with creative, colourful animation and emotional beats that resonate the way they’re supposed to.
Incredibles 2 (2018) - 5/10
Oh, they almost had it! There's a lot here that could have been explored in far more interesting ways. Setting Incredibles 2 directly after the events of the first movie was not a good idea. If it had taken place five or ten years after, the characters could have been in different places in life and it would feel as though they'd actually changed and developed. But instead of trying to be a film that actually cares about its characters and the journeys they go on, a lot of the film is wrestling with the idea that Bob isn't supportive of his wife and Jack-Jack has to fight a raccoon… They have to shoehorn in a villain that in no way compares to the genius of the original. The ending of the original introduces another antagonist that gets wrapped up within this film's first ten minutes, except they don't catch him and he's never mentioned again. It's a real shame because the animation is fantastic and the acting is superb and there are great ideas sprinkled throughout. It just doesn't come together.
Toy Story 4 (2019) - 6/10
I was rather reluctant to watch Toy Story 4 because from the get-go I’m not really here for sequels being made just for the sake of it. Everyone loves Toy Story and making another one is a sure fire way to make money. This is the first time I’ve seen Toy Story 4 and for what it’s worth, I did enjoy it. The animation is immaculate and that alone feels like a huge flex from Pixar who tend to step up the game when it comes to animation in film, despite not having the best track record for films generally at this point. While it was nice to see these characters again, I found a lot of them to be side-lined (namely Buzz) in favour of a story that focuses mainly or entirely on Woody, who I just don’t like as much as in the previous movies. Generally the movie is good and decent enough but there’s no real antagonist and the plot is quite loose… it doesn’t feel as though it needed to be made from a story point of view.
Onward (2020) - 6/10
And with that I have seen every Pixar movie. And Onward is a fine one to go out on. While I don’t think it compares to the likes of earlier Pixar it’s still pretty fun. Or maybe I’m just a sucker for a medieval setting filled with bright colours and magic! Speaking of which, the animation was super and the medieval quest element is something that hooked me with the film. Again, plot-wise it does feel very familiar and I don’t know, maybe I’m past the point now of expecting Pixar to mix it up where their formula for story-telling is concerned but the movie is quite predictable. Nonetheless, while I’m not rushing back to see Onward I would hardly turn it off or refuse if someone wanted to watch it.
Old (2021) - 3/10
Oh boy! New M. Night movie dropped and my word, was it fun! For more of my thoughts on this… masterpiece (?) of a movie, please direct your attention to episode 41 of The Sunday Movie Marathon podcast.
T2 Trainspotting (2017) - 5/10
Trainspotting is perhaps one of my favourite movies and I had never bothered with the sequel, 20 years on, because the ending of that first movie is so conclusive. T2 felt more an excuse for these guys to get together again and in that, I probably would have preferred a couple of pictures on Twitter of the main cast and director, Danny Boyle having dinner or something. This is a fine movie - very arty in its presentation but meandering and dull in its story that doesn’t offer much in the way of proof that it had to exist.
Taste of Cherry (1997) - 9/10
What makes life worth living? This is a central question and theme of Taste of Cherry, and one that leaves such interpretation not only up to its central character but to the viewer as well. This film got me thinking about times in my life when I truly have had no answer to hard questions. Because it’s hard to convince people of things they are so adamantly against and harder still to rationalise what you believe if you’re not even entirely sure why you believe it in the first place. We are all of us alive and in recognising that, does that make it precious? And if indeed living is not a happy thing, why then should we fight so hard to preserve it? I felt upset as I watched this movie because I’ve been asked these kinds of questions before and it makes me feel stupid when I’m unable to answer. But the only real answer I can give is, everything. And if you can’t see the point then you’re not looking hard enough. Taste of Cherry is beautiful in its exploration of these topics and in its overall presentation, offering some of the best visuals in any movie I’ve seen - fitting for a feature with so much to say about the beauty of life - and an ending that as much pulls the rug out from under you as it does pull you out of the dark and make you realise just how lonely you’ve felt.
Bones (2001) - 2/10
Snoop Dogg is Jimmy Bones! This film is super funny but I’m not sure it’s trying to be and I really didn’t love it overall. But I do talk more in depth about it in episode 41 of the podcast.
The Duchess (2008) - 5/10
Another recommendation for the podcast. The Duchess was pretty much exactly what I thought it was going to be and there’s a lot to like about it but generally it’s a bit sparse. For more chat on the movie, listen to episode 41 of the podcast.
The Man With One Red Shoe (1985) - 1/10
This was another one for the podcast and man, was it awful. We had to watch it at 1.5x speed towards the end because it just wasn’t getting finished otherwise. To find out more, make sure to listen to episode 41 of the podcast.
The Emperor’s New Groove (2000) - 7/10
Pull the lever, Kronk! Haha! Slays me. I do quite miss this era of Disney, where the animation was hand-drawn and the stories were actually compelling and funny. The Emperor’s New Groove is vibrant, it’s got great characters and memorable moments that will forever be ingrained in the memory of culture. All in all, it’s just a solid flick that doesn’t waste time, developing the standard fall from glory type of arc but smoothly and in an entertaining way.
The Suicide Squad (2021) - 8/10
Oh, bloody hell! They actually made a good one! The Suicide Squad is not only better than the ‘Suicide Squad’ of 2016 in every way, it’s a genuinely great film! This time, James Gunn (director of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy movies) is at the helm and it seems clear that Warner Bros. basically let him do what he wanted with the movie, as it doesn’t seem to bog itself down with the restrictions of a more family-friendly rating. The result of this is a far cleaner, colourful film with a clearer vision that takes from early Vietnam movies and uses that style to craft a superhero/villain movie that differentiates itself among the copious amount of existing films of the genre. The Suicide Squad wastes very little time, introducing fun, crazy characters we’ve not seen on the big screen before and isn’t worried about killing a whole bunch of them, with standouts being Elba’s Bloodsport, Melchior’s Ratcatcher 2, Stallone’s King Shark (expertly rendered with fantastic visual effects), and Robbie’s returning interpretation of Harley Quinn. A lot of Gunn’s trademark sense of humour is laced throughout and more often than not, it hits. The audience at the cinema were truly loving this movie and I’ll admit, I was right there with them. This mix of the gritty, gory and absurd is not something that should work as well as it does but the basic premise of the film is already so silly (and boy, do they know it) that it just works! Certainly one of the best DC movies since The Dark Knight and one I’d be more than happy to watch again. This is what the modern comic book movie should be: just balls to the wall fun!

‘When I look back on my life It's so hard to face you I never wanted to fight this fight I'm ashamed of the truth No, I don't want to hurt you, baby I don't want to hurt you, baby I didn't mean to hurt you, baby
God, I'm sorry’
When I look back on my life I never wanted this fight (I don't want to hurt you baby) If I could turn back time (I don't want to hurt you baby) I would make it alright (I don't want to hurt you baby)
I love you, I love you sunshine’
Unbelievable, but I painted something new and even managed to finish it in two sittings.
Finally a proper painting of my Sabbat Nosferatu character Fox for our upcoming Sabbat game set in San Francisco. Since his story didn’t start yet I can only share something about his background.
Fox came to San Francisco from a small town in Ohio to escape a brewing unhappiness and resentment towards his mother and responsibility of caring for his two younger sisters that in his eyes slowed him down. He was tired of having to act like an adult in his family and also having to endure the looks and gossips of his classmates, because everyone knew what his mother did for a living to be able to take care of her three kids.
He had these naive dreams that living in California will bring him more and better opportunities to make good money and to live the life he often saw on tv growing up. He really wanted to become something, to prove his mother that you can get money with honest, not self-degrading work. He really hoped that he will be able to earn enough money to ensure that his sisters will never end up in the same line of work as his mother. Of course the reality was not quite how he imagined, he struggled to find work at first, having to even spend a few nights sleeping in the park, but with his determination and eagerness to do just almost any work he was able to find various construction work and other small odd jobs to sustain his basic human needs. A lot of his colleagues were of Mexican and Venezuelan origin and through daily socializing with them he actually picked up some Spanish. He was still looking for a better, stable job but even though he often had little money to go on, he was adamant to stay clear of any criminal work. After about 6 months he was able to secure a job as the sewage treatment plant worker, it wasn’t as glorious work as he dreamed of and the surroundings were often very unpleasant, but he hid his pride and put his best efforts to do his job well. He quickly became very good at it and was even promoted, with the extra money he was able to rent a small apartment.Although far from how he imagined it, his life for the next few years was quite good, he managed to find himself a girlfriend and was planning to get marry to her, the biggest problem was that Gloria was in the US illegally, so he had to figure out how to make it happen.
Unfortunately everything changed when Fox got into an accident during his work when a gas pipe exploded and a fire had started. He was one of the few people injured, but unfortunately for Fox, he was the one who got the most severe burns that covered about 40% of his body, unfortunately also his lower half of the face, neck and hands. After this accident his life spiraled quickly, his company had friends in higher places, so instead of paying for health bills of their workers, they actually scapegoated Fox and sued him and his group of workers for the accident. He had no money for a fancy lawyer, so he lost the case, together with his medical bills his debts started piling up. His personality changed, he was angry or didn't speak at all for days. Gloria tried to help him and tried to be by his side, but he hated the fact that he could see the pity on her face whenever she looked at him. So he really started being mean to her so she would leave him alone, right now he didn't want anyone around. One day it got out of hand and he pushed her out of the door and told her never to come back, that she should get back to her Taco country or something offensive like that. He also managed to shout some Spanish insults at her, his words really hurt her as she ran away with tears. After a few days he felt really bad for breaking the things between him and Gloria in such a horrible way. He knew deep down that he needed her and wanted her by his side, even if it hurt to see how she looked at him, he knew that she was worth it. She actually never showed him where she lived before, so obviously the only places to look for her were the areas where she used to work. He hated to go outside and interact with people as they would always look at him the same, with pity and disgust, but he wanted to try to make up with Gloria. Yet when he asked in the bar the manager said that Gloria didn’t come to work in a last few days. He then went to ask around in the market she used to help and one of the women there told him that two days ago there was a police investigation and that they took a lot of people without proper papers away and that Gloria was among them.
Once again Fox felt absolutely helpless, she was probably detained and ends up deported back to Mexico and there is nothing he can do about it. He had no money, he didn’t even know where exactly she was. That night he bought a few bottles of tequila, drank as much as he could before he felt sick and threw up, which fucking hurt as all of his scars weren't fully healed yet. He hated himself, it was his fault she ended up on the street and now she is gonna end up back in Mexico with her last memories of him will be him yelling all this horrible shit to her face. He was ashamed of himself.
After this his life got even worse, now he had no emotional support, no friends, no job, painful scars that made him look like a monster. He usually spent his days staring at the ceiling, he couldn't really drink much as it was just too nasty, so he just existed for a while. His debts forced him to find work, but he couldn't do physical jobs he was used to anymore, he managed to find some odd jobs, probably because people felt bad for him which he resented. He even worked in 7/11 store, but all of his jobs were just temporary, he couldn’t keep any of them for more than for a week. It was not that his employers were unhappy with him, but Fox couldn’t just stand all the stares and pity looks he got from his employers, coworkers and customers. It didn't take long and he couldn’t keep up with the rent and when he lost the apartment, he became homeless. He could of course get back to his mother, but he actually didn't even notify neither him or his sister about his accident, he didn't want to be a burden and also he had too much pride to ever getting back to that shitty small town. All he wanted was to hide from people, to be spared of their pitiful glances and their talk about how strong he was. He wasn’t strong, he was a shitty, pathetic person who abandoned his family, resented his own mother, he failed his sisters and he treated the person that he loved as a Punchbag for his spite and insecurities, and now she will probably end up in some kind of human trafficking ring, because of him.
I will talk about his Embrace in more detail in some future post, but basically he was a shovelhead who somehow managed to get a chance to prove himself to the Sabbat. Although he loves his pack( some more than others) he still isn’t quite convinced by the Sabbat’s ideology, his biggest difficulty being the ever-present unnecessary violence, he still tries to cling to the last bits of humanity inside of him and that often leads to dissatisfaction from the Bishop and thus reflecting badly on his pack. He is torn between trying to fit in and wanting to measure up to his fellow Cainites and to do what feels right in his heart…
I am honestly very excited to finally play a Nosferatu. ❤

could you write a little nsfw dabi fic? I’ve been obsessed with him lately and I KNOW he has a corruption kink 🥵
My most sincere apologies, this one took me forever, I’m so sorry! Here it is the finished piece, hope you like it! 😭
Author's note: Regarding the tag list, I tagged the ones that let me know they're Ok with nsfw things, so if you want to be tagged in these kind of pieces let me know! I didn't tagged the ones I have written for all my works because maybe they can get uncomfortable or similar, so if you're not tagged here please excuse me😅
Corrupt Me [NSFW]
You had it all. A good job, a good position at the job, a nice apartment downtown shared with your boyfriend. He was a good guy, lame but a good one. Things with him were normal, nothing extraordinary. It was a common thing to have him on top of you one night a week, barely pleasing himself, and whenever you wanted to try something there was always the same excuse building like a wall between the two of you, ''I'm tired'' you even tried to get away from that perfect-dreamed-girl image you had and wore a nice set of lingerie, but he didn't care about it. And you ended up spending another night alone in the living room as he was snoring loudly in your bedroom. But that was Ok with you, because it was your life. Your perfect little life. Why should you ask for something else when you had everything?
But then, it happened.
You went to a bar, a hidden bar somewhere in town. It was you, your boyfriend and another couple of friends, it was all about to get some drinks and forget about the stress gathered during the week. You had ordered just a juice, how could you, Miss Perfection ask for something stronger? You couldn't, and you didn't. One because you were not used to drinking, and two because your boyfriend got mad if you tried to drink something stronger than a daiquiri.
Things were going smooth, until you saw him. A mysterious-looking guy sitting on one of the spots near the wall, his eyes clung to you as he inhaled the smoke of his cigarette. Despite the great number of nasty scars covering his face, and as you could see part of his hands, he was quite handsome. Was it his attitude? His clothes? Him? You couldn't tell, but right when he had smirked your friend's voice distracted you. Before leaving, you made a quick trip to the restroom, your friend was already out when you did, and as they were hurrying you, it was hard to notice that your wallet fell when you crashed with someone with the side of your body.
''Hey dollface'' The voice called, and if it hadn't been for the red light lighting the place, he would've laughed at your blush.
''Yes?'' You asked, feeling nervous when you noticed it was the scarred guy from earlier, he looked even hotter with less distance between the two of you.
''You dropped this'' He showed your wallet, holding it with his middle and ring finger. The man gave it back to you, and you felt like an idiot because you thought he was going to flirt with you.
''Thank you'' You said shyly, grabbing your wallet and leaving quickly as possible, leaving him with a cocky smirk standing behind you.
Two weeks went by after that. Two weeks and you couldn't stop thinking about the guy at the bar, his cocky smile, the scars that adorned his body, was it only his face? were more of them? Damn, even his voice, raspy and low, but still enigmatic and catchy, those three words keep resonating in your head. And when it was Friday again, you couldn't help it anymore. You told your boyfriend that one of your friends at work was dumped by her partner before their wedding and that she was waiting for you at a bar, he didn't oppose. Actually, it was as if he didn't listen to you because apparently, his Ludo game was more interesting than you. And he kept eating his cheese fingers as he lay on the couch.
You doubted, but you were already in the uber heading to the same bar, hoping to find him there. Even though you shouldn't. You shouldn't because you had a boyfriend, because you should be finishing reports for your job, you shouldn't because what were you doing at a bar at midnight on your own, but honestly? Maybe something deep inside you was tired of that life. And maybe, you needed a small push.
Once there, sitting at the bar you asked for a drink, a soft one because you didn't know much about the rest. Your eyes were looking around the place, trying to catch a glimpse of the person you were looking for, but there were signs of the mysterious guy. Guilt hit you again, and maybe the best option was leaving. You were about to stand up when a voice in your ears send shivers down your spine.
''Leaving so early, dollface?'' There it was. The same sensation as two weeks ago. It was him. You saw his back when he walked to sit in the tabouret in front of you.
''I...'' You doubted again. He was intimidating, his mere presence was intoxicating.
''You alone tonight? No lame-ass boyfriend around?''
''I needed to clear my head tonight'' You simply stated. ''And he... He is not lame'' Why did you reply that? Was it an intrinsic answer? probably. The one you were used giving.
''Oh, so you were having the time of your life, weren't ya?'' He smirked ''You didn't even laugh, pretty face. I think you're here for the second attempt'' He kept that cocky smile on his face, noticing the way you were looking at him. ''Why so tense, c'mon. Relax a little'' he took a sip from his glass.
''I'm not tense, should I?'' You asked, trying your best to look relaxed
''Yeah, sure'' He scoffed and rolled his eyes. ''The name's Dabi, by the way'' he moved to take another cigarette out.
And before you could notice, you were exchanging words with a stranger not so stranger. Dabi was all the opposite of your life, he was all the things you didn't do, the things that were forbidden, the ones that you avoid. thought about the man at home, about everything that was taught to you, to be good, to be perfect. If someone saw you hanging out with a man who had staples all over his face would've called you crazy. And maybe you were.
''I don't think you can take it'' Dabi had said ''You look too perfect, a badass life would tear you down.''
''Oh, is that what you think?'' You smiled, not even a bit drunk.
''Unless you show me the opposite'' He leaned forward, his hot breath tickling in your ear ''Why don't I corrupt you, Miss Perfect'' You felt your body covered in electricity, feeling things you've never felt before. He nibbled on your ear, slowly, and you could tell he was smirking.
And then, his lips were on your jaw, his hand resting on the opposite side of your neck 'I live nearby' you heard him say, and you? You nodded. That subtle touch felt like heaven, and there was no way in trying to hide it.
Before you knew it, you were walking with him on way to his place, and when you got there the only thing you could feel was the way he pinned you against the now-closed door, kissing you hard, not an ounce of shame. You felt the dampening on your panties from a simple kiss, what was with him? That was wrong on so many different levels, and a part of you wanted to go back home and keep living under those boring shadows of grey, but the other part of you wanted to stay there, and witness a whole different world, you wanted to stay.
''Aren't ya' going to call him?'' He whispered in your ear, turning around so his torso was against your back. ''Tell him you're not getting home tonight, doll'' You felt his smirk, and you were about to answer but a shy moan left your mouth when his hand got under your shirt.
''I think I should'' You managed to say under your breath and took your phone to dial him.
As you did, Dabi kept kissing your neck, biting it tentatively, and whispering dirty things in your ear as you spoke through the phone.
''Tori is very drunk and...'' You stop, his hand was right over your breast, massaging it at his will ''And... I came to her apartment, she can barely stand''
''She is a jerk, you see? That it happens when women do shits they aren't supposed to'' Your boyfriend said through the other side of the line.
''I think they enjoy a lot'' Dabi chuckled, and he unbuttoned your jeans, sliding his slender fingers in, you bit your lip.
''What was that?'' the other man spoke through the phone
''Nothing, the TV is on'' Your eyes were closed, and you coughed in an attempt of hiding a moan when Dabi slid a finger along your slit.
''So damn wet'' The scarred man said in your ear, setting your panties aside so he could feel you better.
''Sounds like a porn movie, hope you're not watching that Christian Grey thing'' Your boyfriend said again.
''No, it is just a music video. Listen, I gotta go, she's throwing up''
And with that and the last goodbye, you cut the call. Dabi lifted your shirt and tossed it to the floor, kissing your exposed shoulder. Your head fell back, resting on his collarbone as he kept moving his finger along your wetness. You could feel his crotch against your ass, he was already hard and you were a bit nervous. Without stopping his ministrations, he started walking with you towards his bedroom. In a brief moment, you skimmed the apartment. It was tiny, and it was very messy, but despite that, it didn't seem nasty.
At some point, your pants and shoes were off, and you didn't know if it was because of the heated situation or the fact that another man was seeing you in underwear but you were sure your cheeks were more than red. Your legs felt weak when Dabi started rubbing your clit in soft circular motions, breathing heavily in your ear. But suddenly, his hand was away from you. Turning around, you saw him. He was smirking, and he guided the same finger that was playing with you to his mouth, licking it clean, getting a sample of your taste. You sat down, and his eyes wandered all over your body, and you were not even fully naked yet.
''What, did the cat got your tongue?'' He asked ''You were so talkative at the bar, saying that you were not lame, that you could be a badass''
Dabi smirked, and got rid of his shirt right in front of you. He looked lanky with his clothes on, but now? You could see better what his clothes were hiding. Even though he was not muscular, his shoulders were broad, and despite the big burnt scars on his body, you could saw his abdomen was well defined, the same with the 'v' line that continued right under his pants. He got closer, and leaned down so he could plant a heated kiss on your lips, making you wish you could hold your breath for longer. A sound took you out of your thoughts, and even though you had your eyes closed you knew it was the sound of his belt, and then? His pants sliding down his legs. Once the kiss was over, he stood still again, and took his boxers down with no shame, on the contrary. A cocky smile was plastered on his face.
It was not the first time you've seen one before, but it was the first time in a few years you saw another one that wasn't your boyfriend's. And Dabi was thicker and bigger, the sight of it had you drooling, and you hoped you weren't being that obvious. He grabbed his length and pumped a few times, and you could notice something shining on the underside, and there they were. Three bars.
''First time you see a pierced one?'' He teased.
He kissed you one more time, the smirk never leaving his face. Dabi's hands went to your back, unclipping your bra and finally exposing your torso to his sight. You moaned shyly when his mouth was over your nipple, sucking it and biting it with the right pressure to make you squirm.
''I thought you wanted-'' You said in a low voice, biting your lip at his interruption.
''For you to suck me off? Yes, but that can wait you pretty thing''
After letting out a chuckle, he kneeled in front of you. A slap on your thigh made you whimper, and you obey at his command.
''Stand'' Dabi said. And his hands moved all the way up over your legs, getting rid of your panties and exposing your soaked intimacy. He licked his lips, and spoke again. ''Now sit back and spread those pretty legs for me, dollface''
You did as he said. And honestly, you felt the fear taking possession of your body. The last time your boyfriend was right between your legs, was more uncomfortable than pleasant. He was a brute, and he paid attention to everywhere less to the important parts, was that how it supposed to feel? Uncomfortable and even a bit painful? Your heart was racing, but then, it was like you were in heaven. He licked a stripe along your slit, focusing only on your clit. His movements were measured, and even though they were still a bit rough it was only pleasure filling your body. The vibrations of his moans made you shiver and moan, and in an instinctive reaction you used your hand to grab his head and pull him closer, making him smile against your core.
Dabi lifted one of your legs so he could place it over his shoulders, and the contrast of his cold staples and his warm mouth had you seeing stars.
He used two fingers to spread your walls, and that made him lick his lips.
''Look at that, what a perfect little hole you got there huh''
You felt a little bit embarrassed at his words, but then every thought clouded because his tongue was deep inside you, fucking you with no shame and making you squirm as he squeezed your thighs. You would have to come up with an excuse to explain the bruises.
He kept eating you out, switching from tongue fucking you to lick and suck at your clit with expertise.
What you didn't know, is that he was the biggest tease on earth, and when you were right on the edge he stopped everything, and stood up with a smile on his face. He crawled the two of you to the bed, using his knee to spread your legs as he whispered in your ear.
''The only way you're coming tonight, is on my dick''
He used a hand to align himself on your entrance, and he pushed his hips slowly. You? You threw your head back and let out a shameless moan, and it was the first time you heard yourself letting out such a sinful sound, and that made him smile. Dabi cursed under his breath, and he started moving quickly, making you bite your lip.
''Don't hold them back dollface, I want to hear you'' He said ''Let everyone know how good I make you feel, how bad and nasty you are''
He growled, and you forgot about everything. Your parents and their pressure of you achieving perfection? Gone. Your boyfriend being so lame and selfish? Gone. The people at your job asking you for more things and you wishing for a break? Gone. The only thing that you could think of, was how good he felt inside you, the way his abdomen looked every time he moved in and out of you, even the weight of his body on top of yours felt beyond good. One of your hands was on his head, tugging at his hair while the other was on his back, digging your nails at the strong sensations. Suddenly, you were not shy anymore. Moans were leaving your mouth, your hips were bucking against him following his fast and strong rhythm, crying out with each of his thrusts.
All of him was intoxicating, his scent, his voice, his body, all of it had you asking for more, not wanting stop. And Dabi was aware of it, he knew the impact he had on your body and certainly, he loved it. He loved he was corrupting such a nice girl. You opened your eyes, and try to make the words come out of your mouth, it was hard to hold them back with all of the emotions that were over your body, especially when you were feeling closer by the second.
''I'm- I'm on the pill'' You could say. And a devilish smirk appeared on Dabi's face.
''Does that mean that you want me to cum inside you?'' He scoffed ''Such a naughty little thing'' A moan left his lips as his thrusts became sloppier ''Scream my name, c'mon''
You couldn't do more than obey his demands, he had you wrapped around his finger. Your back arched and he held your hips, pounding relentlessly in and out of you, and by the way his cock twitched inside you you knew he was close too. You were about having an orgasm with a man that wasn't your boyfriend. And you were loving every second of it.
His naughty words were the perfect plus, and with them and his thrusts you felt that knot forming in your lower stomach, a feeling that you have forgotten.
''So close'' You said between panted sounds.
''That's it doll, cum on my cock. Don't hold back, c'mon'' he said, his face pressed against your neck, his sweat mixing with yours and his bites making you shiver.
It just took a few more thrusts for you to scream his name, digging your nails in the healthy skin of his back at the same time you felt his hot spurt deep inside you. Dabi moaned loudly as he kept his cock buried, finishing his release. Your entire body was shaking, coming down from cloud nine and processing everything that just happened. A gasp left your lips when he pulled out and rolled to the side of your bed, laughing a bit.
''Guess you were not a lame shit'' He lifted an eyebrow and you covered your face.
''Shut up, I'm not like this'' behind your hands covering your face, you were laughing. It was wrong, but it felt heavenly.
''What are you gonna say to the ugly little shit you call boyfriend bout' all of these'' His fingers were on your hips, touching the red areas that were probably going to become bruises. '' You should tell him how good I fucked you'' He chuckled and he rested on his side to kiss your neck again.
''I... I might just explain that I hit against something'' There was a slight blush on your cheeks, a mix of shyness and because of the previous events.
''I recommend you to find a different excuse, cause I'm not done with you yet'' He nibbled on your ear, and his hand grabbed your neck just a bit tightly ''Because there will be more bruises'' His voice was low, rough, and seductive. Almost compelling you.
''Really? Guess I will have to be creative, then'' You said surrendering to his charms. Everything felt more than good, he was addictive, and it felt like you weren't worried about stop being Miss Perfect. Those days were over.
''That's what I wanted to hear'' He smirked, and made you lift off the bed. He stood up, and leaned forward so he could whisper in your ear ''On your knees, princess.''

not an ask but your post on queerbaiting in response to @quillsandscreens 's post on gahan being headcanon hit the nail on the head! I don't really have a say in the convo bc im straight but my very straight ass could spot the queercoding from MILES away. I was so baffled when some others couldn't see it. It's all there, subtle but very intentionally framed. And had Gaon being a woman, the straights would've shipped the two to the ends of the earth without any change of script.
100% on point. so this is just me rambling here, but i tend to generalize in terms of straights just bc well, they're dominant and think everything is about them most of the time. so that's not to say everyone (like yourself) does not see the relationship within tdj. however, a good majority don't because they get to be blinded to all of the ways they are not negatively impacted by being queer. on top of that, if you're not within those circles of queer communities, there is so much context you miss out on, and that's a whole other level of overlooking.
underrepresented communities build specific context, discussions and language for each other to pick up on. (very poignant example of this is that is a little more mainstream is the fact that many women and their friends have no issue calling each other a bitch, regardless of whether it's out of love or not. but the minute a man calls a woman one.... nope. bc women understand the context in a non-threatening way. men, on the other hand, do not use that shit playfully and even if they try, it's uncomfortable).
so there is a lot of coding that happens with characters bc 1. there are rules/laws in place that prevent it being stated or could actually harm the crew/production/ability to get funded and 2. it's its own song and dance, the ability to create nuanced, subtle gestures and lines to show a character for who they are without uttering a singular word is absolutely incredibly bc of those limitations.
hets are so used to things being explicitly stated. they've never had to read between the lines. it's always handed to them, so no wonder that skillset isn't sharpened. they're under the impression that if it isn't said word for word, it must not exist and the intention was never there to begin with. but it's all about overtones (look at the stuff going down with venom right now and fans vs critics, which tells you a lot).
at the end of the day, people will see what they want to see, and they will fail to ignore context clues in favor of their own biases. and there are those even with queer characters and fans, yes. reading to much into things and stretching out things for a smidge of representation, but the difference there is that we are never given that to begin with. we've always had to find representation, and so that became the code of conduct, especially in conservative societies that are still battling queer rights.
you're absolutely right that if gaon had been a woman, everyone would've eaten it up. i'm still surprised tdj is still as popular as it is, but i know that it'd be significantly moreso if there was straight scenes involved. but thank god we weren't given more bc the entitlement and downright nasty behavior hets displayed with the gaon/soohyun scenes before they all realized she died...... i will never forget that. literally i will never forget how fucking curl and nasty they were because they couldn't let ONE show be for the gays. and the only reason for that is mainly bc of jinyoung and their obsessive need to be a self-insert with their kpop favs.
on top of that, they really did love the gaslight the entire fandom, even here on tumblr, about how wrong we were, how we turn everything gay, and we're misogynistic bc they couldn't take a damn minute to read/find analysis posts. like, i'm genuinely tired of straight people having the monopoly on what they think is right/wrong, and using misogyny and other social justice issues to call us crazy/delusional. maybe if we had openly queer tv and films for us to enjoy, we wouldn't feel the need to create and find context in the content we love and consume.
and just to reiterate in general, not pointing figures at you anon, tdj is NOT queerbaiting. it's queercoding, and fandom really needs to learn the difference.

eraserhead | aizawa shouta x reader
ao3
word count: ~5k
Shouta has many exhausting days, but you're always there for him when he finally comes home. And, he decides to show you how much he appreciates it.
(Or, domestic Shouta dick on hard!)
warnings: domestic fluff & smut, domestic aizawa, face-sitting, cutesy shit
Shouta’s day had been so fucking long. Training with 1-A had been more of a nightmare than it had been in a long while. It resulted in about a third of the class needing Recovery Girl’s healing while the remainder received a harsh scolding on lack of restraint. He made sure to sprinkle on a few administrative threats for good measure, but all in all, it really soured his mood for the rest of the day.
After a quick nap and 24 ounces of black coffee, he took to his evening patrol as normal. For whatever reason, the streets were also a shitshow. He had to track down and subdue a petty burglar who had robbed a few street vendors. Shouta also detained a few muggers as well, all preying on women stepping out of a new, neon-lit club. It wasn’t particularly hard as these weren’t coordinated criminals, but rather drunken idiots who needed some sense and respect slapped into them. All the same, it was tiring and a little disheartening.
By the time his patrol was finished, he was so exhausted. The caffeine had long burned from his system and all he wanted to do was curl up in bed and sleep as long as possible.
Shouta made his way back to his apartment, checking his phone on the way. He couldn’t help the swelling in his chest as he saw a text from you, cute as always.
from “y/n”, 9:32 PM
“y/n”: miss you honey!! i made dinner and put some leftovers in the fridge for you!
“y/n”: - love you shouta baby <3
His heart warmed.
The two of you had been dating for quite some time, though it was one of his best-kept secrets. You didn’t mind, truthfully. You had a flexible job freelancing, so your schedule molded to the needs of a hero very well. The dates you took were carefully planned and often shrouded, but you never complained. Only a few of Shouta’s colleagues knew of your relationship, and they were sworn to secrecy. All of the external smoke and mirrors just added to the reticent, underground allure that “Eraserhead” cultivated. It was one of the reasons you fell for him in the first place.
Shouta arrived back at your shared apartment, unlocking the door and heaving a sigh. He could see the light of the TV illuminating the living room. Your shadow was cast on a wall, disrupted as one of your cats sprung up to greet Shouta at the door. A small smile spread on his face as he reached to scratch her fluffy white chin.
You shifted off the couch, moving towards Shouta as well, “Looks like Mochi missed you.”
As you swayed towards him, Shouta was unable to help how his eyes raked down your comfortably dressed body. You were only wearing a cropped t-shirt and soft, high-waisted sleep shorts that gave a delightful peek at your ass. You swayed up to him, slowly wrapping your arms around his shoulders while he instinctively went to your waist, squeezing lightly.
He chuckled as you pressed a few playful kisses to his cheeks and stubble, “Looks like she’s not the only kitten who missed me.”
At the comment, you flushed and buried your face in his neck, giving it a playful nip, “Asshole. I always miss you.”
Shouta rumbled out an acknowledging hum. He knew this all too well. There were many nights he came home in the early hours of the morning to find you passed out on the couch spooning Mochi. He always made careful work to carry you to bed tucked against his chest, whispering sweet nothings as you became listless in his arms. Often, this would evolve into sleepy, tender fucking. Sleepy embraces of soft skin that turned into soft peaks and sweaty bodies. Though, just as often, the two of you dissolved with each other into deep sleep.
But, this night, you were wide awake and safely in his arms.
Mochi curled around your feet as Shouta coaxed you from his neck. You withdrew only to cup his jaw in your soft hands, pressing a gentle kiss to his lips. Shouta shivered; he would never tire of feeling the plushness of your lips on his own. You felt his shudder, laughing lightly against his lips.
You pulled back, rubbing his shoulders, “As much as I love this, I know that you haven’t eaten dinner and I made some incredibly good soup and bread earlier if you’d like some.”
Shouta smiled, something you saw more than anyone else and you cherished that face, “Of course. Thank you, kitten.”
“Asshole,” You jolted forward at the nickname to kiss his nose before twirling from his grip to practically skip towards the kitchen, out of sight.
Shouta rolled his eyes in false annoyance, but truthfully he found your perpetual embarrassment over his jests endearing. Despite having lived together for nearly two years and been in a relationship for several more, he was still able to rile you up and fluster you with just a few words. Shouta craved it and he knew that you did too.
Shouta bent down, giving Mochi a few more scritches as your older, less spry, senior kitty, Artichoke, finally came lumbering over to greet him. Shouta alternated between taking off his boots and petting the cats before straightening up and draping his capture weapon over a hook by the door.
He walked to the kitchen, stretching his arms above his head, watching with a fondness he could extend to you.
You padded around the kitchen, unaware of his gaze, too absorbed in your own doings. The aforementioned soup was on the stove, heating up. You always insisted on warming things up in the oven or on the stove, insisting that it preserved the taste and quality of the food better. It took a lot longer, but Shouta didn’t mind. It made you happy.
You gave the soup a stir, nodding to yourself and stepping back to boost yourself atop a countertop, tapping through your phone.
Shouta walked soundlessly between your thighs on the countertop, placing his large, calloused hands at the juncture between your hips and upper thighs. Your eyes darted up to meet his, a sweet smile coming to your face as you placed your phone back on the counter. Languidly, you rested your arms on his shoulders, lightly pulling him and tangling a hand in his messy, raven hair.
“How was your day?” You asked, rubbing a thumb at the base of Shouta’s skull, eliciting a rumble of pleasure low in his chest.
Shouta pressed his face into your shoulder, half nuzzling into it, “Very long, and very tedious.”
You hummed, turning your head to press a very well deserved kiss to Shouta’s temple, “You wanna talk about it?”
Early in your relationship with Shouta, you learned that you had to prompt Shouta to talk about his feelings, thoughts, and well, a lot of things, directly. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to (especially with you, he very much wanted to share his life with you), he just wasn’t used to many folks listening.
But, you were there to listen. Always, it seemed.
Shouta shook his head, “Nothing overwhelmingly bad. Just a bit worse than normal. I’m just happy to be home.
“I’m happy you’re home too,” You replied gently, nudging Shouta’s head from your shoulder to press your foreheads together. “Do you have patrol in the morning?”
“No, I have tomorrow off,” Shouta cupped your jaw, kissing you with a soft reverence. It was gentle, mellow and slow. His other hand squeezed your hip, feeling soft flesh give way to bone.
His dick twitched.
...
So it was one of those nights.
Shouta licked into your mouth, giving your bottom lip a quick nip. You shuddered in his grasp, arching your back into him. One of your legs began to hook around his waist-
And then incredibly loud sizzling shocked the air.
You jolted back, looking past Shouta to the pot of warming soup.
“Shit!” You cursed. Shouta moved back, going to stir the soup, lowering the heat as you were at his heels.
“Well, at least it's warm now,” You laughed from behind him, while he dished himself up some of the fragrant soup.
The two of you settled on the couch, Shouta quietly eating and listening to you as you filled him in on your day. You recounted how you went to the coffee shop on the corner, then scoped out a new cat cafe that was opening up across town. Your work could be done from almost anywhere, and you took advantage of that through your romps around town. You always had such cute stories about your day.
Shouta couldn’t lie and say that your wanderings didn’t worry him. He knew all too well the types that lurked in the shadows and would jump at the chance to take advantage of someone like you. But, you also weren’t reckless. Hell, truthfully, Shouta underestimated you early in your trysts, thinking you weren’t nearly as capable as you were.
You laid your head on Shouta’s shoulder as he set the dish of soup aside, mostly finished.
“Thoughts? Pretty good, right?” You asked, pressing a kiss to Shouta’s clothed shoulder.
Shouta nodded, wrapping an arm around you and squeezing, “Very good. Your cooking is always very good.”
Though, it wasn’t his favorite meal of yours he liked eating. He could only pray that your cunt be his last meal on death row.
...
Shouta could survive on granola bars and apple sauce and had for a long time. The minute you two moved in together, you tried to always keep some leftovers in the fridge or freezer for Shouta to graze on. You were insistent that your role as house chef had nothing to do with antiquated gender roles, but rather that Shouta was a compliant guinea pig for new recipes. Either way, Shouta wouldn’t have minded. Truly, the closest you ever got to the ‘housewife’ archetype was the one time Shouta walked in on you in a sinfully cute skirt and frilly, pink apron when you were making literal goddamn bread.
That was also the first day Shouta fucked you over the kitchen counter. He remembers it very fondly and with a rock hard cock.
You rose, stretching your arms above your head. The crop of your shirt rode up deliciously (and intentionally) showing off the supple skin of your waist and just a sliver of underboob. Your cute, sleep shorts, patterned with moons and stars, moved just perfectly to show the curves of your ass and thighs.
You cleared your throat, giving him a knowing look with dilated pupils, “Something up, Shou’?”
“No, nothing at all,” Shouta rose up off the couch, having more than a few inches of height on you as he moved to rub his hands up and down your arms. “I’m gonna wash up.”
“Sounds perfect,” You stretched on your tiptoes to give him a chaste kiss, before turning on a heel to walk to the bedroom, a small parade of cats following you.
Washing up consisted of taking a shower to wash off the grime of the day and throwing on a pair of boxer briefs and a long sleeve shirt. It was one that you frequently wore (read: stole), and it carried a bit of your scent with it.
When he entered your bedroom, hair tied up, Shouta couldn’t stop looking at you.
He’s really not sure what changed about him. It was probably age, but something about domesticity got his dick hard. Coming home to someplace, something, some one stable made him feel warm and safe in a way that felt so new. He fucking cherished it.
Just like he cherished you.
You were up on your knees on the bed, playing with Mochi with a stuffed mouse toy. You hadn’t realized he had entered the room, cutely oblivious in your comfort.
A moment later, you noticed him, all sleepy eyes and warmth.
You seized your playing and smiling, “Sleepy, dear? Come to bed.”
And oh, he did.
Shouta went to his side of the bed (he loved that), climbing onto the mattress and pulling you into his lap. His back rested on the headboard while yours was snug to his chest. His legs were laid out flat while yours were bent at the knees as he stroked them up and down. They were all plush, soft skin. He couldn’t decide if he wanted to mark them, be buried between them, or have them wrapped around his waist while he bruised your cervix.
His nimble fingers traced up and down your curves in a way that he knew would make you shudder.
Shouta loved the way you trembled at his touch.
“Maybe I’m not so sleepy,” Shouta broke the almost silence. He squeezed the meat of your inner thighs, moving closer to the hem of your sinfully small sleep shorts.
You chuckled, “I couldn’t tell.”
You ground backward, making Shouta’s cock twitch.
Goddammit.
Shouta was exhausted. Truly and thoroughly worn out, yet he wanted nothing more than to be suffocated between your thighs. Maybe laying between them or maybe-
“Hey, kitten,” Shouta purred into your ear, tucking your hair behind your ear. He kissed softly, speaking lovely and deep. “Would you mind doing me a favor— just since I am a bit tired?”
You took a shuddering exhale, nodding as Shouta’s hands drifted between your upper thighs and the softness of your tummy, “O-of course.”
Shouta grinned, licking the shell of your ear, popping a gasp from you, “How about you sit your pretty little cunt on my face, hm?”
You breathed, wriggling against him with a whine, “S-Shouta—”.
He truly wished he could see the bashful blush that was surely staining your cheekbones.
You squirmed in his lap, “Are you sure? I know you’re tired, you don’t have to.”
He hummed, nodding, and moving your hair away from your neck. Shouta didn’t dare lavish it with the kisses he so wanted to. No— he merely fanned his breath and watched your squirm. In a low, growling voice he spoke into your ear, knowing how instantly wet you got for it, “Let me lay down and I’ll show you how much I want to.”
You turned back to look at him, immediately going in for an incredibly sweet kiss. Shouta swears he could taste sugar on your lips as you pull away. You perfectly juxtaposed his lust, all candied reverence and a honeyed tongue.
You shifted, allowing Shouta to properly lay on the bed. He took note of the small, nervous tugging of your hands as you watched him. Your cheeks were flushed with want and thighs squeezed together tightly.
God, you were precious.
Shouta couldn’t help himself. He dragged your lips down to meet his own as he settled his body onto the sheets. Your hands wove into his damp hair, rubbing a small, deep circle at his skull. Shouta couldn’t help the low moan that pulled from his chest.
You knew just how to touch him, even in simple ways.
Even from Shouta’s spot lying down, he was able to pull off your shorts and discard them to the floor. Your legs were vaguely unshaven, perfectly perfect.
(When the two of you first had started seeing each other, you had been so meticulous about your appearance and hygiene. You still kept good on both of them, sure, but, he’d seen you relax more and more as you got used to him. At heart, you were a bashful thing and took quite a bit of time and patience. He adored it, adored you.
You hovered over Shouta, pressing your petal-soft lips against his own. His hands, all calluses, and scars, wrapped around your thighs in their own foreplay. You stuttered a moan into his mouth which he drank greedily. Fuck his exhaustion, taking you in made him feel more alive than any cup of coffee or adrenaline rush would.
Slowly, you positioned yourself above Shouta’s half-drooling mouth. Your face was flushed, eyes trying to look anywhere other than at the man between your thighs. There was clear anxiety in how you were shifting and tensing. Definitely turned on, but a bit unsure.
“Kitten, do you want to keep going?” Shouta asked softly. As much as he wanted this, he was well aware that for you, this was a fairly vulnerable position on a good day. Sometimes, being this exposed made you a bit too skittish to have a good time.
“N-no, it’s okay,” You reached down to run a hand through his hair, pulling it fully from its tie. “Ya’ know, I just get nervous.”
You give him a soft smile, one that’s full of trust and love that took months to years of love to foster and grow. And now? It was mirrored so well between the two of you.
God he loved you. He loved it. He loved you.
Shouta wrapped his arms securely around your waist, hands digging into the plush bits above your hips. It was his wordless reply, positioning you perfectly to ride his face.
Shouta moved a hand to your soft stomach, gently rubbing a thumb lower and lower. You shuddered, almost grinding down onto Shouta’s waiting mouth. He prevents you, holding you up to tease you just the slightest bit.
You huff above him, but it quickly dissolves into a tremor-filled moan as Shouta’s thumb slowly traced as the velvet of your folds.
He circled your clit, moving to give it a few slow circles. He could literally watch the wetness begin to pool around your cunt.
He couldn’t help himself.
The muscles in his thick arms tensed, dragging your thighs down to rest squarely on either side of his face. Your pussy rested firmly against his mouth, weeping.
You cried out above him, steadying yourself on the headboard.
The smell of you was all around him. God, he could hardly breathe but he could hardly fucking care. Your cunt was the place he wanted to drown, die, and be at peace in.
He gave you a lick from cunt to clit with the flat of his tongue, trying to taste all of you in one go. You tightened your thighs around his head, moaning and resting your head against the wall, braced by an arm.
“S-Shouta,” Oh, your voice was begging. It made his cock throb. “ More.”
Did he fucking heed your request.
With everything he had, your thighs were constricted by his grip and your pussy was fully suffocating him.
Shouta licked into you, swirling his tongue at your entrance. He sucked at your clit, hard, and proceeded to roughly drag you down when you reflexively lifted your hips away from his mouth. Shouta worked his lips against your cunt and clit with vigor. He could feel the way your slick wetted his facial hair and clung to his cheeks. Your thighs were dampening with sweat and arousal and Shouta was fucking drowning in it.
He gave a particularly harsh suck to your clit, causing you to bounce upwards with a cracking shriek before Shouta dragged you back down again. You bore down on him, panting so sweetly above him.
He pulled away from your pussy for only a moment, “Touch your tits for me, kitten.”
Your hands shakily slid towards your chest, tweaking at your own nipples as soft moans spilled from your kiss-bruised lips.
Shouta took the opportunity to bite and suck at your inner thighs, leaving sweet little marks in his wake. One of his hands went to roughly palm at your ass, giving it a quick slap in the process. Your hips stuttered, then fully ground down on Shouta’s tongue.
He took a spare moment to splay one of your thighs a little bit wider for balance, allowing him to move his own arms. He’d rub the soreness out of it tomorrow, gladly. He removed his mouth from you for just a moment to take a few deep breaths, before slowly crooking a finger into you. You shook with each moment, thighs twitching around Shouta’s face. He fully plunged the finger in, bringing a soft gasp tumbling from you. He smirked against your cunt, tongue fully attending to your clit. You were slowly starting to descend into obscenities and pleads.
“ P-please, Shouta!” You wept out, all for him, just for him. He revels in it. “ M-more!”
He obliged without thought.
Shouta spelled sweet nothings on your clit at a brutal pace. He can’t help teasing you just a little by not fully crooking his fingers just right. This earns him a desperate whine from you and a delicious squeeze of your thighs from around his skull. His ability to breathe is definitely being compromised, but god if he ever wanted it back. Suffocating on your cunt was his goddamn sacred rite and he’d be damned not to do so perfectly.
“S-Shou’,” You stuttered out from on top of him, one of your hands fisting in his hair and forcing him deeper into your pussy still. Shouta has no doubt your face is flushed and damp with sweat. “ Please—”
Maybe on a different day, Shouta would tease and make you beg for it. But, not that day. On that day, he wanted nothing more than for you to cum on his face.
He repositioned his fingers, suddenly and harshly curling them against that particular, perfect spot in your pussy. You let out a sharp moan, bearing down on him.
“ Fuck, Shouta!” You breathed harshly, crying out with each lick and suck.
Shouta drilled the spot inside of you, feeling slick practically pour down onto his face. God. He adored you.
“I-I’m close—” Your voice was cut by your cry as Shouta gave you a particularly harsh suck to your clit.
He already knew. Your pussy was fluttering and tightening around his fingers.
Shouta free around tugged you down the hardest and harshest he could. You were smothering him, and holy fuck he loved it. Loud squelching sounds and his own breathing were all Shouta could hear as he brought you to a tumbling orgasm.
You screamed his name, so prettily, so well , on your lips and your hips stuttered and faltered against his face. The hand that wasn’t finger fucking you senseless helped prop you up as your muscles spasmed.
Your hands had flown to your mouth, judging by the muffled nature of your cries of adoration. It was a habit of yours Shouta was trying to help you break, carefully. He gave your ass a sharp smack as you were coming down from your orgasm. Your hands quickly came down your face and instead intertwined with Shouta’s messy hair.
Shouta refused to let up on your cunt. You were twitched around him, moans coming out as broken babbles. His fingers drove into you and his tongue flicked at your clit, hoping to draw a second orgasm from you.
“S-Shouta!” Oh, Shouta loved how broken and hoarse your voice was. “T-too much!”
Shouta stopped abruptly, pulling his fingers from you and allowing you to move and rest.
You moved to straddle Shouta’s waist and god were you a sight.
Your hair was messy, frizzed, and wild with your own pulling in ecstasy. Your face was thoroughly flushed, a few tears coming from the corners of your eyes. Shouta could even see your thighs glistened with slick and his own spit.
Shouta propped himself up to sit (somewhat), glancing at his wet fingers.
“Open your mouth, kitten,” It was a soft order, but you obliged nonetheless. You opened with your tongue just a bit out, eyes wanting.
Shouta gently grabbed your jaw, hooking a finger inside your mouth so you weren’t able to close it. His wet fingers slipped in, smearing your juices across your tongue.
You closed around them, sucking weakly in your post-orgasmic state. Shouta could clearly see your exhaustion, and his own was creeping back up on him, albeit slowly.
He withdrew his fingers and hand, voice low, “Swallow like a good girl.”
You nodded, eagerly complying. Shouta watched the gentle bob of your throat.
“Oh, kitten, ” Shouta praised you with a voice like honey. “You did so well.”
You shifted to sit on his hips, wet cunt over his straining, boxer-covered hard-on. You leaned to kiss Shouta softly. You lick into his mouth to taste yourself, shuddering against him.
God, he really loved you.
“You too tired for anymore, kitten?” Shouta cupped your face as he drew away.
You gave him a soft laugh, pressing your smooth cheek into his scarred, callous hands, “I should be asking you that.”
“My dick is currently rock hard from drowning in you, so you could say I’m not too tired right now.” Shouta purred as you melted against him, straddling him fully and arching your back the slightest bit. You were such a good kitten for him.
You pressed soft kisses into Shouta’s neck, nipping his jaw, “You could fuck my face? Get me as messy as you like?”
As much as thinking about your fucked out, fucked up face got Shouta leaking, he wasn’t in that particular mood. Another night.
“Sit on my cock, kitten,” Shouta turned to kiss your temple, hands pushing and pulling at your waist.
You drew away, giving him a bit of a concerned look, “Shou’ I don’t know if I have that in me.”
Shouta shook his head, dropping his voice even lower, “I’ll be doing all the work, kitten. Promise.”
You still looked anxious, unable to meet Shouta’s eyes. Sometimes, you froze up like this, in intimate moments. You spun in your head with only fear.
“(Y/N),” Shouta called you with your name, pulling you from your worries. You met his eyes. “We can stop if you’re uncomfortable, it’s alright.”
“No, no,” You shook your head. “ I’m genuinely afraid my legs will give out. I feel all jello-ish right now.”
You laughed softly, Shouta squeezing your hips.
“Oh, kitten,” Shouta chuckled himself, thumbs rubbing soft circles against your skin. “ I said I’ll be doing all the work. You can be a good cocksleeve for me, hm?”
You audibly choked, then nodded. Shouta just hummed laughter, watching you squirm for him.
“Be a good girl and sit on my cock then,” Shouta lowered his gaze at you.
You put yourself more upright, grabbing his cock in a soft grip. Shouta was rock hard from eating you out, angry and red. You stroked him a few times, spitting on the head and slicking him down. You lined him up to your dripping cunt, shaking legs raising to pull in his cock so beautifully.
Shouta was big and you visibly felt it as you sank down on him. Your eyes fluttered and your body shook as he filled you up.
Both of you were breathing in puffs, Shouta growling as you bottomed out. He smoothed a hand over your stomach as your body twitched. Shouta’s breath hitches as he swears he can feel his cock through your stomach.
He gripped the side of your body, fingers digging into the flesh and fat, and with abandon and the strength of thighs, he fucked up into you.
You nearly screeched as he did, hands going to Shouta’s torso for purchase. You screamed exclamatives as Shouta’s cock so perfectly filled you up. Your cunt was hot and gooey around him and Shouta knew he wasn’t going to last too long.
Your body bounced with his, your expression twisting as one of your own hands went to rub your clit. Particularly hard, Shouta slammed up into you and pushed your hips to meet him.
“ Kitten,” He growled, repeating the motion, but slower. “Don’t you fucking dare touch yourself.”
You nodded hastily, moving your hand, dissolving into soft pleads for Shouta to keep fucking moving.
He made good on his word to do all the work.
Shouta’s pace sped up, wet squelches filling the room. You were moaning in tandem with each thrust, both getting closer and closer to climax.
Finally, Shouta relented and massaged your clit with his thumb, watching your expression break for him. Your body sagged, face to Shouta’s neck, fanning sweet breath sticky to his skin.
“Cum on my cock, kitten,” Shouta nearly fucking commanded you to. You shook for a moment, grinding down as Shouta fucked you so well. You clenched so beautifully on his cock, sobbing in relief as Shouta’s thumb moved faster, allowing you to tumble over the edge of your peak.
Shouta couldn’t hold back. He was relentless in the way he grabbed your hips and fucked you. He bruised your cervix as he reached his own climax, nails digging into the meat of your hips as he growled out your name.
His cum filled you up so nicely as he fucked you through his own orgasm. You were nearly sobbing into his neck, hands fisting into his knotted hair, begging for a reprieve. Shouta slowed, a hand pushing your heaving chest up so he could see you better.
You sat so divinely on his cock. You were thoroughly red, thoroughly bitten, and bruised up just right. Your eyes were glassy and your lips parted.
Shouta gave one more, weaker, thrust up into you.
You hissed, letting out a shaking breath, “ S-Shouta—”
Oh, you were spent. And, so was he.
He gently pulled you off his cock, watching your slick and his cum coat your thighs. Part of him wanted to lap it up and tongue fuck you again , but he was much more inclined to pull you to his chest.
You immediately tangled your legs together, pressing your face into his chest. You half-heartedly groaned into his chest, “I thought you said you were tired.”
“I was,” Shouta pressed a kiss to the top of your head. “Still am.”
You snorted out a laugh and tried to move even closer. Shouta wrapped his arms around you, squeezing before moving off the bed. You whined, but he just tsked.
He returned with a soft, wet towel. He gently cleaned you, pressing a kiss or two to your oversensitive thighs and sweat-slick tummy.
Finally, he slid in with you, both of you somewhat clean and more than sated.
You were already half dozing as Shouta pulled you into him, running a hand through your hair.
He truly adored you and would show you, time and time again, exhausted or not.

Roommates - Theo x Reader
(gif source)
Summary: y/n’s landlord is increasing her rent once her lease is up. She has two options: move out or find a roommate. Theo, coincidentally, is looking for a new apartment.
Word count: 2105
Warnings: cursing, theo being a total house husband
a/n: and they were roommates
master list
“So then he finds out that Leia is his sister and- y/n, are you even listening?” Stiles cut himself off and looked over to where the y/h/c was nervously bouncing her leg. y/n’s head snapped up when she heard her name, nearly dropping her phone in the process.
“Uh, yeah, of course! I just um, keep going, I’m listening,” she replied unconvincingly. Her odd behavior caught the attention of the rest of the pack - not that they were really paying much attention to Stiles’s retelling of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi - causing the previous conversation to be forgotten.
“Okay, spill. There’s a handful of mostly human polygraphs in here and you’re a terrible liar. What’s up?” Malia grilled, looking at y/n expectantly.
“It’s really nothing, everything’s fine,” y/n squeaked out, her ability to lie getting worse and worse with each word. After receiving another pointed look from Malia, she finally cracked. “Ugh, fine. I just got an email from my landlord that he’s bumping up the rent when my lease is up and I can’t afford to stay there by myself anymore,” y/n ranted. The group, minus y/n, glanced around at each other with frowns. Each and every one of them would drop everything to help y/n, but it just so happened that they were all already stuck in leases or didn’t have any extra rooms at their homes. After a few moments of silence, Theo piped up.
“I could be your roommate and split the rent if you want,” he offered nonchalantly. Stiles looked between Theo and y/n as if they’d both grown two heads. Before y/n could decline the offer, Theo continued. “My lease is almost up and your place is much nicer anyways. It’s a win win,” Theo pointed out casually and leaned back deeper into the cushions.
An awkward silence hung in the air for a moment as y/n mulled it over. It wasn’t a horrible idea. Having a chimera as a roommate was basically like having a top-of-the-line security system. Plus, between being a full-time student and working part-time, y/n was hardly home so it didn’t really matter who her roommate was, just as long as they did their fair share of chores.
“Sure, why not,” y/n replied warmly.
It had been about a month since Theo moved in. Aside from sleeping, y/n had spent very little time at their now shared apartment. If she wasn’t at school or working, she was spending time with the pack, which felt like a full time job in and of itself. Too bad they weren’t getting paid to keep the whole damn city safe. For what felt like the first time in months, y/n finally had an entire weekend off. No looming deadlines from her classes. No long and grueling shifts for work. No supernatural threats.
When she got home that Friday night she dropped her purse by the door, toed her shoes off halfway through the room, and unceremoniously flopped down onto the couch, sighing loudly as she did so.
“Well hello to you too,” Theo called as he entered the room stealthily. y/n jumped, startled by his presence.
“Jesus, I didn’t even know you were home. What are you, a ninja?” y/n asked, chest heaving slightly.
“Something like that,” Theo smirked, earning an unimpressed eye-roll from y/n. Theo moved to sit down on the couch next to her, making sure to leave a respectful distance between their bodies, and kicked his feet up on the coffee table. “So, you’ve been busy,” Theo began, striking up a light conversation. y/n snorted and leaned her head back into the cushions.
“You’ve got that right,” y/n groaned, running a hand through her tousled hair. The last thing y/n expected when Theo moved in was for him to be willing to hear her vent about school and work, but he actually seemed to enjoy the conversation and company. She told him about her lazy group project members and the sleazy old men who came to the diner she waitressed at. She told him how poetic justice had been served when one particularly disgruntled customer slipped and fell on the drink that he’d intentionally spilled when a waitress wouldn’t give him her number. Theo actually laughed in response to that story, his gleeful chuckle brought a warm smile to y/n’s face.
“I didn’t mean to unload on you, thanks for listening though,” y/n finished shyly. Theo brushed off her comment.
“That was entertaining, thank you,” Theo replied with his signature grin. y/n felt heat rise to her cheeks but turned away before Theo could notice.
“Anyways… as much as I’d love to not move from this couch for the next 48 hours, I should probably clean up a bit. I’ve been a pretty shitty roommate,” y/n grimaced as she forced herself off of the couch. Theo gave her a puzzled look and patted the spot next to him on the couch, rolling his eyes when she seemed unwilling to sit back down.
“You’ve hardly been here since I moved in. I don’t think you’ve eaten a meal here, much less made a mess. Except for maybe your shoes in the middle of the floor,” he pointed out, gesturing towards her anti-slip waitressing sneakers. y/n’s face continued to burn as she moved to kick the shoes towards the shoe rack by the door. Naturally, she turned to sarcasm as a defense mechanism.
“What shoes? I don’t see any shoes,” y/n quipped slyly, waltzing back across the room to once again sink into the couch. Theo chuckled wordlessly at her antics and tore his eyes away from her to look at the TV.
“Friends or The Office?”
As luck would have it, y/n’s free weekend was short lived and the following Monday she was back to her never ending stream of school work and back-to-back work shifts. Fortunately, she was able to run home during her lunch break and wisely chose to use the time for a well-deserved nap. As she pulled out her keys to open the apartment door, she heard mechanical humming coming from inside. Truth be told, she had yet to figure out what kind of roommate Theo was, much less come close to understanding the walking enigma, so she had no idea what she was about to walk into. Was he building something? Did he figure out a way to bring the dread doctors back? Was he doing something unspeakable with a lady friend that would surely scar y/n for years to come?
As y/n mentally prepared herself for the horror movie that she was expecting to walk into, she inserted her keys in the lock. I need a fucking nap, whatever weird shit going on behind this door be damned. She pushed the door open with tense shoulders and hesitantly peered into the apartment. There stood Theo. Not holding any tools, not actively in cahoots with the nightmarish scientists that occupied part of their high school days, and (thank God) fully clothed...
But vacuuming.
Her murderous, half-human, former dirt bag roommate was vacuuming. Like a bona fide house husband.
Theo heard the door softly close shut behind y/n and he turned to face her, unplugging the vacuum machine in the process.
“What’s with all of this?” y/n asked hesitantly, gesturing vaguely to the vacuum cleaner and the various cleaning supplies set out on the coffee table. Theo glanced at the area around him, proud of his work.
“I had some time to kill so I figured I’d clean up a bit. I’m pretty much done now so I shouldn’t bother you if you’re studying or…” he trailed off, giving y/n an opportunity to fill in the blank.
“Ha, I probably should, but no. I will be dead asleep for the next thirty minutes and then I have to head to the diner for a double shift,” she groaned and shrugged off her jacket as she made her way towards her room. Considering the fact that it was only noon on a Monday, y/n seemed far too tired. Theo frowned for a moment and genuinely considered going to have nice civilized chats with her manager and professors. That’s probably a bad idea though. Unless...
For some reason unbeknownst to y/n, her professors had begun to show some mercy in the number of papers and projects they assigned. Her manager at the diner even offered to decrease the hours she worked each week if she was feeling overwhelmed. Theo wore a knowing grin when a joyful y/n came home one day and explained this all to him. If y/n caught his mischievous smirk, she certainly didn’t call him out on it. With all of her newfound free time, y/n decided that she wanted to host a pack movie night at their apartment.
“Alright, the pizza is on the way and Scott is bringing snacks. We should probably get the movie set up before Stiles gets here and somehow convinces us all to watch Star Wars again,” y/n rattled off while she paced the apartment to make sure everything was in order. “I washed a bunch of blankets earlier, could you take them out of the dryer and put them on the couch?” y/n requested as she anxiously walked to the kitchen and began pulling out plates and cups. Theo nodded gently as he popped into the kitchen to check things out.
“Don’t stress too much. As long as there’s people and pizza, everyone will be happy,” Theo said, attempting to ease her anxiety. y/n smiled lightly at his words and took a deep breath. Lately he seemed to have some magical ability to calm her down. Theo left the kitchen to take care of the blankets while y/n put together a makeshift snack bar, complete with plates, bowls for snacks, and beer. The pizza and most of the pack arrived just as y/n and Theo were finishing up with their respective jobs. The pizza delivery boy seemed a little scared by the tall, muscled men and tiny but mighty women surrounding him so she gave him a decent tip and rolled her eyes at her friends’ naturally intimidating nature. After y/n ushered them all inside and set the pizza down on the kitchen counter, she joined the rest of the pack in the living room. To her surprise, the blankets had been neatly set out around the room and folded with expert precision. She sent Theo an impressed smile and winked when she thought no one was looking.
Stiles was the last to arrive and much to his disappointment Ghostbusters had already been set up on the TV. It didn’t take long for everyone to grab food and get situated around the living room, so by the time y/n was done buzzing around the apartment like a madwoman to get everything situated there was only one spot left on the couch. y/n knew that her friends - aside from Stiles - weren’t actively trying to hurt Theo’s feelings, but seeing him tucked into the corner of the couch distanced away from everyone pained her more than she’d admit.
So, she did what any good friend would do. Not only did she gladly take the spot on the couch next to him, but she also casually tossed her legs over his and covered the two of them with a blanket. The action definitely earned her a few raised eyebrows, including from Theo, but no one dared to call them out. y/n was able to easily ignore the sideways glances they earned throughout the course of the movie, mostly because she had fallen asleep about 15 minutes in. By the end of the movie her head had fallen to lazily rest on Theo's shoulder and he had subconsciously pulled her in closer to his side.
After the movie finished and they spent some time catching up, the rest of the pack began to trickle out of y/n and Theo’s apartment. Lydia was the last to leave so she offered to lock the door behind her so that Theo wouldn’t have to move and wake y/n. Lydia tossed out a few stray cups on her way out the door, and because she was never one to tell secrets, she definitely didn’t send the girls a picture of Theo and y/n now both passed out and cuddling on the couch.

WandaNat x Reader : Confusion
Summary: If they had twins you would still choose them.
Genre: Fluff
Word Count: 1,362
* * * * * *
Long red tresses. Deep green eyes. Flawless porcelain skin.
Long brown hair. Sea green eyes. Equally as flawless skin.
The two women you love, sitting at your sides and. . . in front of you?
A deep frown sets on your face as you stare at the women in front of you. Who’ve just introduced themselves as Scarlett and Elizabeth. And who also had just appeared in the common room of the compound from a very complex looking portal.
It’s not surprising but still a shock.
You’d time traveled for crying out loud. You’d brought both of your girlfriends back from the dead. So a portal to an alternate universe isn’t bizarre.
What was bizarre was this unexpected event.
Waking up you thought it’d be another normal day, being lazy with your girlfriends in the midst of this quarantine. Just as the three of you were settling on the couch to watch some Netflix movie Wanda begged to see, a giant(almost magical looking) hole opened in front of the tv.
Out stepping your girlfriends’, doppelgangers it seems.
“So, is there any way you can help us get home?” The woman named Elizabeth asks, soft green eyes full of worry.
You have to force yourself to break eye contact, a reminder in your head that she may look like her but she is not your Wanda.
Leaning back, you find yourself inadvertently in Natasha’s embrace. Her arm around you as her other hand plays with Wanda’s hair.
“I’m sure Tony could help. He and Bruce have been dying to do some big science shit.”
Wanda smacks your leg when you curse and an amused smile crosses your lips as you mumble a sorry. She’s not a fan of your profanity and in your defense you haven’t cursed as much lately.
Both women across from you eye the closeness between the three of you, the little gestures and comfortability. Scarlett is the one to lean forward just a little,“ I don’t mean to overstep but are the three of you-”
“In love? Yes.” Natasha says, seriously but with a joking undertone.
And the women take it for just that. No judgment, just nods and smiles.
“I’m curious,” you say, leg crossing over the other,“ you said that you’re actresses that play characters exactly like Nat and Wan? And that’s why you look exactly the same?”
They nod.
You hum, trying to process the information. Understand how there is a world where the women you love are merely characters being brought to life by people with their own lives off a screen.
Natasha and Wanda aren’t real in another universe. Are you?
Before you can ask the very men that can fix the current problem appear, Mister Jolly Green Giant, Professor Hulk carrying a carton of his own ice cream while he and Tony talk amongst themselves.
Their eyes go as wide as yours had when they see the additional women in the common room.
Bruce’s large spoon falls from his mouth and clatters against the floor, the sound pulling Tony from his state of shock.
“Uh, either this is multiversal or cloning.” He says, looking from Natasha and Wanda to Scarlett and Elizabeth, a deep frown on his face.
Natasha sighs,“ they aren’t clones Tony.”
“This is Scarlett,” Wanda points to the redhead actress,“ and Elizabeth.” She points to her doppelganger.
Bruce waves at them.
You scoot to the edge of the couch,“ think we can get them home?” You direct to the two geniuses.
And in true Tony fashion, he cockily states that he’s probably the only one who can. He may be right but it’s still annoying.
But you know it won’t take a day, so you show the women to spare rooms where they’ll be staying until they get home.
“Hey,” you rejoin your girlfriends in the common room,“ I don’t want to bail but-”
“You’re going to work with Tony and Bruce.” Natasha finishes, looking back at you.
A sheepish grin spreads across your face and your girlfriend’s laugh at you and your nonverbal asking for permission. You don’t need it but you want to make sure they’re okay with you ditching them for science.
They nod to you and you press a kiss to Natasha’s lips before leaning over the couch to kiss Wanda who’s head rests on Natasha’s lips.
“Promise we’re spending all day tomorrow together.” You call as you jog away.
Like usual, when you get caught up in your work with Bruce and Tony, hours pass without you acknowledging it.
By the time you leave the lab it's well past midnight but the sun’s still down.
Craving a snack before you go to bed, you quietly head to the kitchen. Surprised to see the light already on. But not surprised to find Natasha in the room.
You assume she’s having one of those nights, waking up on and off.
With a soft smile and a quiet sigh, you approach the woman, arms encircling her waist as you ask,“ can’t sleep?” And press a kiss to her cheek.
Only for the woman to jolt away from your embrace with wide eyes. And it’s then that you realize your mistake. The green eyes may be familiar but they aren’t the ones of the woman you love.
“Holy shit!” You raise your hands as if you’re not trying to startle her.“ Oh my fucking- I’m so sorry I didn’t. I forgot-”
Forgot how you don’t know! You literally just left from working on a way to get the women home and you forgot they were here!
Burying your face in your hands you groan,“ I swear I didn’t mean to do that. I mean I did just not to you. I’m sorry.”
“It’s- it’s fine.” Scarlett speaks, voice so familiar it makes you groan again.
You’re such an idiot!
“I’m gonna-” you point to the door, nodding, and then leaving.
Heading to your shared room, you keep repeating how idiotic you are in your head. Once inside, you lean against the door, and slowly slide down it. Face back in your hands.
“Y/n?” Light fills part of the room from the bedside lamp and you look up to see Natasha staring back at you with tired narrowed eyes.
You sigh and drop your head back against the door.“ I just kissed Scarlett. I fucking thought it was you. I forgot about them so fucking quick and I was jus-”
The laughter coming from Natasha makes you frown. Is she losing her mind?
Quirking an eyebrow, you lift your head up,“ is that a you’re about to kill me laugh?”
“No,” Natasha shakes her head and holds her hand out to you,“ it’s an I love you but figured something like this would happen laugh.”
Now frowning, you stand, strip to your underwear, and take her hand, letting her pull you into the bed.
“So you aren’t mad that I kissed another woman?”
Her fingers gently stroke your bare leg,“ a little. But I know it was genuinely a mistake. In any other circumstance I would definitely be killing you and her.” She smiles sweetly despite her deadly words.
“Agreed.”
Both your gazes snap to Wanda, who you both thought was asleep. If her words weren’t enough, she rolls over and wraps her arm around Natasha’s waist.
“Where did it even happen? Did you not assume we were asleep?” The youngest woman asks, one eye peeking open.
You nod,“ I thought you were asleep, and having forgotten about them, I assumed Tasha was having one of those nights and had gotten up.”
“Well all is forgiven. Let’s not keep talking about it though.” Natasha says.
Noticing the flicker in her eyes, you gently grab her chin, and press a kiss to her lips.
You go to sleep happy that they weren’t mad but still feeling bad because no matter how much they look alike, you definitely kissed another woman.
It’s safe to say that you were more than happy when Scarlett and Elizabeth went home. As nice as they were, you aren’t sure if you’d be able to handle having the women around so often. It was far too confusing.

sweet creature (spencer reid x f! reader) pt 2
a/n: ah yes, a case chapter. this was gonna be longer but i didn’t want it to just drag on and i just ended up cutting out some parts soooo enjoy this 3k word chapter of y/n using her big galaxy brain to solve a case with just a pinch of fluff w spence :)
part one | part three
It was only the beginning of the movie when the weight of the day hit her. She snuggled further into the couch, trying to gain some extra warmth. Spencer had his apartment so cold, she could nearly feel the chill creeping up her body. Her eyelids began to close shut slowly, and the sound of the television lulls her to sleep. She was far too tired to keep herself awake, so she hoped that Spencer didn’t mind if she rests, at least for a few minutes.
Spencer keeps his eyes glued to the television screen, having been making commentary throughout, he didn’t even notice Y/N fast asleep. “You know, it’s actually scientifically impossible for someone to-“ He turns his head to look at her, and she lets out a quiet snore. The TV’s sound was barely audible now, Spencer turning it down so it wouldn’t wake her. He stood up to his full height and the freshly cleaned floor squeaks as his feet carried him to the cupboard that held spare linens and duvets.
He laid a blanket over her figure gently, careful not to disturb her. Taking the extra blankets, he spread them out, making a makeshift bed on the floor below her. He flickered off the TV and all that could be heard was the pitter-patter of the rain against the windows. Spencer let the layers of blankets engulf him in warmth, letting his eyes fall heavy and drifts off to sleep.
The next morning, Y/N woke up to the vibrations of her phone ringing. It was Anna. Wait. I’m still on Spencer’s couch. Shit! I was asleep longer than I should have! She sits up, checking the time, “I’m late to work!”
She tossed the blanket off her and tried to push herself off the couch. But then she sees him. Spencer curled up with a blanket that was much too small for him. She stifled a snicker and covered him with the blanket she was once using.
Before Y/N could leave, she noticed a pen and notepad sitting atop his desk. Maybe I should leave a note, she thought. She grabbed the pen and the black ink slid smoothly across the page.
Sorry to leave so soon… and for falling asleep during the movie. Lets reschedule? Keep in touch, 187! xx
-Your favorite barista
She heard Spencer stir in his sleep, and just before he could wake up, she was gone.
-
“Surprise?” Garcia questioned. “What surprise? What’s going on-” and then she realizes. “Oh, Coffee shop girl! You’re the girl from the coffee shop!”
Y/N hid a giggle behind her hand as she stood. “You told them about me?”
Out of the corner of her eye, she can see JJ’s head shoot up. “Yeah, Spence,” she says, tilting her head at him. “You told us about her?”
“I told Garcia,” he grumbles.
Spencer can feel the five pairs of eyes on him. He didn’t think that not telling the team about her was such a big deal. Why was it such a problem he kept something to himself for once? They practically live together. Spencer just wanted to keep someone who makes him feel like a person. He wanted to keep her so close to him because he finally had the chance to think about something other than work and the cases, and the people he couldn’t save. He wanted to be someone; to feel normal. In the time that it’s silent, he understood why Y/N didn’t tell him, but he sure as hell wishes that she did.
Spencer’s eyes flicker back and forth between her and the team. “We should focus on the case.”
-
The first case Y/N works on with a team is fairly close, which she appreciated. She wasn’t particularly fond of plane rides but that was something she had to get used to. Joy, who she found out is Rossi’s daughter, had been writing a piece about violence against women on campus, and noticed a series of mishap in the area. After finding what she believed was more of a case than a possible story, she brought attention to a series of disappearances to the team’s attention once a young woman by the name of Bahni Desai had gone missing.
“4 cases in 9 years.” Derek speaks into the cell, sitting in the driver’s seat. “How come this hasn’t been on our radar?”
“Because the disappearances were in different states with different M.O’s.” Rossi explained over the speaker.
Y/N claimed her spot on the middle seat in the back, reviewing a case file. “The first missing woman was Kathy Miller in 2006,”
Morgan questioned. “So what’s the plan once we land on campus?’
“Track Bahni’s movements. Campus police checked her room, she’s not there. They taped it off for you.” Hotch instructed.
“What about her cell phone?” asked Spencer.
Y/N shifted in her seat, passing the file to Spencer and whispered to him. “It’s kind of cold in here, don’t you think?”
He turned ever so slightly to look at her. “I have my jacket in my bag if you need it,”
She dug to find the much-needed jacket and threw it over her shoulders. It was his FBI issued jacket, tapered at the sleeves and a bit oversized. It smelt like him, she noted. Cinnamon and coffee. She offered him a gentle smile. “Thanks, Spence.”
Spencer returned the smile, handing her back the file.
“It just pinged in her room overnight,” Garcia informed. “No credit card activity. I’ve confirmed with all the ticket agencies she didn’t take a boat, bus, blimp, or plane last night. Oh! The Dean's office just sent us her file from Judy Temple College. It looks like- Oh dear…” She trails off.
“Looks like what, Garcia?” Y/N urged, tugging the jacket closer to her.
“She voluntarily withdrew!”
-
“She definitely didn’t plan on leaving town,” Spencer surveyed Bahni’s abandoned closet. “Her clothes, shoes, and luggage are all still here.”
“Well, it looks like she was trying on different outfits,” said Morgan.
Y/N shuffled past Spencer, standing next to Morgan, and observed the clothes laid out. “Miniskirts, heels. Seems like she was going out.” Y/N added.
“But why not take her phone?” Reid asked, picking up Bahni’s cell. “She’d need it to meet up with her friends.”
She spun on her heel and inspected her desk, noticing two chemistry textbooks. “Unless her friends were already here,” she suggests, her finger brushes against the lettering on the cover, then beckons Morgan to look at the books.
She turned the cover of the textbook, Morgan doing the same to the one to their left. Y/N pushes out a sharp exhale out of her pursed lips. Paddy Morris, she read.
Morgan is the first to speak. “Same textbooks, different names. “She wasn’t studying alone.”
Spencer moves closer to the pair and peers over Y/N’s shoulder. “That could be the last person who saw her.”
-
Y/N trailed behind Morgan and Reid with her hands tucked into the pockets of Spencer’s jacket, and her eyes wandered around the halls of the building. This is going to be her first interview. She wasn’t nervous, per se, but her mind couldn’t help but fill with possible scenarios. Don’t mess this up, Y/N. Only ask questions relevant to the case and remember, don’t say the wrong thing.
“Nice jacket,” Morgan commented, slowing down to reach Y/N’s pace.
“Nice face,” she joked, reaching up to tap his cheek.
Y/N quickened her pace, walking past Spencer, and she could practically feel his stare burning into the back of her head. She found the correct door, and it was Reid and Morgan’s turn to trail behind her. Finding Paddy’s correct door number, she taps her knuckles against the hard wood. “Paddy Morris, this is the FBI,”
“Very funny, Josh,” They heard through the door.
Y/N turned to the men behind her and they shrugged their shoulders in unison. She scrunched up her nose, knocking once more.
The trio held up their badges as the door flung open, exposing the girl. “You’re not Josh.”
“Great observation,” Y/N nodded.
Paddy opened the door wider for them, and they took their spot on the three chairs to the side of her bed. “We have a few questions about Bahni Desai,” Morgan told her. “Is there any information you have that might help us?”
She let out a sharp exhale. “I was with her last night. She was fine,”
“Any idea why she left her cell phone in her room?”
“We didn’t take purses, and we didn’t have pockets in our skirts.” Paddy draws out.
Y/N saw Spencer shift in his seat. “Ok, walk us through the night, you guys were studying before you went out?”
“Yeah, um,” her voice is shaky. “I knew about this party. She didn't want to go.”
It was Y/N’s turn to ask a question. “Did you two come back to the dorm?”
Not too bad, not too bad, she reassures herself.
“No. I made her stay.”
“Why?”
She gulped, looking over their shoulders and out the window. “There was this tennis guy that I’d been trading tweets with. He said he’d show up, but he was late, and then the later it got, the more I drank.”
“How much did you have?” asked Reid.
“Her, I don’t know. Me, a lot. Until Peter arrived…” she trails off. “She told me she was going right after that.”
“Did anyone walk out after her, maybe try to escort her?”
“Not that I saw,” she frowns, face streaked with tears and day old mascara wiped beneath her eyes. “God, it’s my fault, isn’t it?”
Morgan reassured her. “No, it’s not. But there’s still a way you can help us.”
She perked up, wiping the stray tears away. “Anything. Name it.”
Y/N straightens up and asks, “Where was the party?”
-
“This was the last spot she was seen. The next camera is 100 feet down,” Spencer pointed forward. “Which makes this the abduction zone,”
Y/N walks with him, investigating what the team has found, all thanks to Garcia, Bahni’s last location before she went missing. “Alexandria police searched the buildings, nothing was there.”
“Well, if she got in the car with him, they would have shown up on the camera down the street.”
Her eyebrows knit together, suddenly coming to a stop. “Right, so it would be too risky,” she looked to the camera, and observed the shops behind them. “Just shoving her in the trunk of a car. And out in the open like this? Someone would have been bound to see them,”
“Well, that leaves this.” Spencer gestures to the near alleyway. It’s empty. Secluded. Low chance of anyone seeing the attack.
Spencer and Y/N shared a look, walking further into the alley. His phone went off, signifying that he’s gotten a new message, and she watches him as he fetches his phone out of his coat pocket. She could see the wrinkle between his brows that he would when he was worried about something,
She stops in her tracks and gently places her hand on his bicep. “Is everything okay?”
“Actually, no. My mom’s not doing so well,” Spencer says, biting the inside of his cheek. “The doctors have had to change her medicine 3 times to try to stabilize the schizophrenia,”
Y/N knew about his mom and her conditions. He had mentioned it a few times to her when he would go into her shop during her break. She let out a soft exhale and rubbed languid circles in his arm as a comfort. “Spencer, why didn’t you tell me… or the team?”
“I- I didn’t want to bother you,” he averts his eyes
“You could never bother me,” Y/N’s voice is hushed. “You can never bother any of us, got it? How long has this been going on?”
Spencer’s frown deepens, looking down to the asphalt beneath their feet. “It’s gotten really bad the past few weeks.”
“As soon as we’re done here, you need to go help her. She needs you,”
Y/N watches as his eyes narrow, looking at her this time. “I know. Right now so does Bahni.” he said firmly.
She watches him as he moves to leave the alley, and a frown etched on her face. Y/N knew he would rather keep something to himself than bother anyone about his problems, but this was different. She just wanted to be there for him, to help him, to make sure he doesn't feel alone. He was her friend, after all. Spencer turned to her, looking at her expectantly, and she followed him.
“Alright, let's think this through,” Spencer said.
Y/N added. “Okay, so, if he took her this way, it is a busier street,” they both observed the cars passing. “The traffic was much lighter last night, but it would be a risk to abduct someone in plain sight.”
“So he was able to control a drunk woman and it didn’t look suspicious.”
“He probably just put his arm around her and walked off, and was too drunk to realize she was in danger.” she replied.
“You know, if this was just about the assault, he could have done that back in the alley. I think this gotta be some sort of long-term play,”
“Then he’s been watching Bahni,” she makes eye contact with Spencer. “Looking for the perfect opportunity.”
“Well, he certainly found it last night. She’s a straight-A student who never drinks and rarely goes out.”
Y/N nods, walking back to the alley to inspect it once more. She eyes the spot where the suspect was last documented, trying to think of anything that could possibly help them, and then it hits her. “Spence, tell Garcia to look for offenders with precursor crimes.”
“On it,”
-
The rest of the investigation went by smoothly and the team rescued Bahni successfully, arresting Tom Larson for abduction of Bahni Desai and Sam Burnett for the murder of Kathy Miller in the process. By the end of the night, Y/N stayed behind as the majority of the team left, having to finish paperwork for Hotch. She heard shuffling, and it brought her attention to Spencer sitting on the edge of his desk. Following his gaze, she noticed a framed photo of JJ’s newborn perched on her desk. Then she examined him closely, noticing visible bags under his eyes, and his hair slightly disheveled. She gathers the loose paper into a folder, then places them into the drawer of her desk.
“You were that little once,” Y/N says, catching Spencer’s attention.
“It seems impossible, doesn’t it,” he smiles fondly at the photo. “That we all start out so helpless.”
Y/N got up from her chair, joining Spencer at his desk. “Yeah, well, we all end the same way.”
A moment of looming silence passes between them and Spencer stiffens, suddenly becoming hyper aware of the proximity. It’s not that he didn’t like it. It made him more aware of the flutter and flit of the butterflies in his stomach. That he didn’t like.
Y/N is the first one to break the silence. “You’re gonna call your mom?”
Spencer is brought back to reality by the sound of her voice, and he’s back at ease. Y/N did a good job at doing that; easing him. He furrowed his brows, checking his watch. “It’s not too late there, is it?”
She gently grabs a hold of his wrist to check for herself. “Shouldn’t be,” she whispers.
Y/N let her arm fall to her side. “I wanted to tell you, by the way.”
“Hmm?”
“That I was joining the team,” she crosses her arms over her chest. “I wanted to tell you.”
“Why didn’t you?” he counters.
“I didn’t want to intrude. I thought it would’ve been weird if some girl from the coffee shop you go to just suddenly started working with you, but I guess that happened anyway,”
Spencer’s eyes flick down to her. “You’re not just some girl from the coffee shop,” he says slowly. “And if it makes you feel any better, I really enjoyed working with you today.”
Y/N’s lips curled upward, bumping his shoulder with hers. “Hmm, I guess we just make a good team,”
“Guess so,” Spencer says with a soft laugh that makes her heart swell. “You know, I actually didn’t mean to tell Garcia,”
“You didn’t?” She raised her brows.
He shook his head. “She saw your number written on my coffee cup.”
“I see,” she hummed.
There’s a moment of comfortable silence. Y/N scoots away from him slightly, barely realizing the closeness. Her stomach twists and tumbles within her, nerves spiking, trying to find words to add to the conversation. She finally looks at him and she feels heat creeping up her neck when she saw that he was already looking at her. And she finally says, “I guess I should be getting home,”
Spencer followed her movements, trailing behind her as she retreated to her desk. “Would you like a ride home?” she asks.
For a second, it is silent again. It’s clear to her he’s thinking way too into the question. “It’s no bother,” she adds, giving him a kind smile. “I promise.”
She held out her arm just like she did that morning and waited for him to link his arm with hers. He visibly relaxed, hooping his arm beneath hers. This is what he liked about Y/N, what drew him to her. She allowed him to break down his walls when he was with her, and he guesses that that was why he let himself be so comfortable with her because if he was being completely honest, he wouldn’t do this with anyone that wasn’t her. Yeah, he was close with JJ and Penelope, but the connection was just different. He just couldn’t put his finger on it, and for the first time, Spencer Reid didn’t know why.

OK, I know this will probably be painful, and I may be a bad mutual for asking but...would you be willing to identify what, in your opinion are the bottom five worst Shadow adaptations, and give a detailed breakdown of why they were so lousy?
Oh christ, okay. I don't think you're gonna get as much of a detailed breakdown for these compared to some of the others, because I take more issue with adaptations that do have good qualities but also big or deep problems to talk about.
For example, I can't include Garth Ennis's Shadow in this list because the comic has a lot of strong points to it, despite a deeply, deeply detestable take on The Shadow's character, where as the rest of the Dynamite run doesn't reach neither the lows or highs of his run. Likewise, Andy Helfer's run has a couple or a couple dozen moments every issue that make me want to tear something to shreds in frustration, but it's also at many points a really good comic with great art and some occasionally very inspired writing. Really, I'd just be repeating myself talking about what I hate in those.
But, fine, let's list some of the others.
I think I'm just gonna have to get the elephant in the room out of the way here, and address that I won't be including Si Spurrier's 2017 Dynamite mini in this list, and I think at least some of you might be angry it's not Number 1 by default. I'm doing this because I intend to one day really revisit it, think about it and it's reception and what it was trying to do, and talk about it on it's own, now that it's been 5 years and everyone has moved on and we can maybe talk about it without kneejerk hatred driving everyone nuts (your mileage may vary on how warranted it was).
I'm also not going to be talking about James Patterson's new novel, because I haven't read it. It seems to be considered a forgettable potboiler by mainstream critics and a resounding failure by everyone who likes the character whether they've read the book or not, and frankly I don't have it in me to learn what the fuzz was about anytime soon, I got my hands way too full as is.
And I won't be including the Batman x Shadow crossovers here, because again, they do have a lot of virtues that put them far ahead of some of the really worst Shadow media, and I've talked enough about how badly I think they mangled The Shadow, which is really the big problem I have with them (well, that and Tim Sale blatantly copying a Michael Kaluta cover, that was really shitty). I don't really hate them anymore, I just get tired and frustrated thinking about parts of them, I said my piece as is. Really, my frustration over this comic is what inspired me to start writing about The Shadow here, so I guess in a way I do owe it at least that much.
5: Archie Comics's Shadow
I think some of you might be wondering why this isn't ranked higher, but to be honest, I don't actually harbor any hatred towards this. I mean, I have to include it, but I find it kinda silly that some people even today actually care about the existence of this comic enough to hate it.
For fans back then? Oh yeah, obviously, but this dropped to such instantaneous backlash that it never really got to live past 6 issues. Really, everything wrong about it can be understood immediately from the covers, and I've actually read the comic in it's entirety to see if there was anything worth taking. I found only a couple of things of note but, no, this really is just a painfully mediocre superhero comic that happens to have a couple of Shadow names in it. If anything, it gets too much credit.
The actual contents of what it is are never going to justify it's reputation, but the existence of it and the disproportionate response to it is the funniest and most enduring legacy it could ever ask for. This whole comic is The Shadow's version of Spongebob's embarassing Christmas photo.
4: David Liss's The Shadow Now
This is another "The Shadow as an immortal in modern times" comic and I think you may have noticed the pattern with those by now. I may revisit this eventually and I do have some moments from it saved for reference, but overall: It sucks, and it doesn't even suck in a way that lets me talk much about it, it's a diet version of Chaykin's Shadow. If Archie's Shadow is a generic mediocre superhero comic wearing The Shadow's name, this is a generic crime story playing beats from movie. The Shadow is an asshole and not even a grandiose or sinister one, he just feels like a sleazy douche in a costume. The art is a 50/50 coin toss between appropriately moody and "Google images with a filter on them", I don't remember anything about the plot other than Khan had a bomb again and he had a daughter, and there were new versions of the agents and the Harry stand-in turned evil and Lamont shacked up with Margo's descendant which, uh, no. I don't really hate this but I really have nothing nice to say about this comic other than Colton Worley's art is nice sometimes. I can't really muster anything else to say here.
3: Invisible Avenger
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
ZZZZZZZZZZZZ
ZZZZZZZZZZ...
...uuh, wha-
Yeah, I remember nothing about this one other than it's painfully boring and nothing about it, nothing at all, works in the slightest and I drift off to sleep even now trying to give this a rewatch. To be honest pretty much every other Shadow serial not starred by Victor Jory sucks and I don't really have anything to say about them, this one is just the worst of the lot. I dearly wish there was a good Shadow tv series but, if it was going to be like this pilot? Good riddance.
2: Harlan Ellison's The New York Review of Bird
This isn't really a Shadow story as much as it's a Harlan Ellison story that happens to feature The Shadow, but man am I glad that Ellison's "Dragon Shadows" was canned, because holy shit what a goddamn nightmare Harlan Ellison writing The Shadow for real could have been, going purely by the one time he ever touched the character. New York Review of Bird is a purely farcical parody story that wears real, real thin even before "Uncle Kent" shows up, and we get to see in it what is by far the most detestable and irredeemable take on The Shadow ever put on print, and not even in a critique or deconstructive way or anything that could be remotely worth discussing.
I don't hold any particular affection for Harlan Ellison and his writing (despite liking some of it) and I've come to notice the major red flag that is finding someone who looks up to Harlan Ellison in any capacity as a person, and this story in particular really feels like Ellison aggressively trying to channel his jackass tendencies through every line, just him being nasty because he built a personal brand on being nasty. The only reason this isn't Number One is because it's a very short story that saw zero influence or reputation, and thus it only exists as a brief mention in The Shadow wiki, and a brief mention is all it really calls for.
1: Howard Chaykin's Blood & Judgment
I'm guessing most of you already knew this one was in the top spot before I started writing.
I would actually rather not write a big piece on Blood & Judgment, because I think (or at least I hope) it's influence on The Shadow has waned a lot over the years and I would prefer to draw it the least amount of attention possible, but if I HAVE to talk about this, I guess I'd rather just vomit this out of my circuits now instead of giving it it's own post.
I would prefer to use a less unpleasant image on my blog, but if I'm going to talk about this comic, there's no image to better convey it than this drawing of macho asshole Cranston holding a sexualized mannequin at gunpoint. By leaps and bounds, Blood & Judgment is the most misogynistic Shadow story I've ever read. It's ironic that Chaykin justified the rampant misogyny he gave The Shadow with the idea that this is just a man from the 30s would act like, when he admits in the same breath that he never even touched the stories, and he wrote a story more sexist and demeaning to it's female characters than anything, literally anything, written in the Shadow pulps. It's almost impressive even.
I'll paste some segments from Randy Raynaldo's review
In Flagg, he intended to present his own point of view on American society while keeping his work tongue in cheek and acessible. But this vision dimmed, and Flagg had become a vehicle by which Chaykin could play out fetishes and portray gratuitous and stylish violence.
In The Shadow, stripped of the political and social veneer which was supposed to make Flagg unique, Chaykin's sensibilities and excesses become disturbingly apparent. For all of his liberal posturing, Chaykin's work demonstrates zero difference from the same kind of mentality exploited and made popular by similarly violent popular culture icons like Dirty Harry and Death Wish.
More than half a dozen individuals are indiscriminately and violently murdered in the first issue. Although the victims are characters who played major roles in the myth of The Shadow, we feel little sympathy for them, even for those of us who knew these characters at the outset. Who dies is unimportant, it's how they die that is the fascination.
Chaykin uses sexual decadence as a means by which to establish villains, and undercuts this device by making the protagonists as promiscuous as the villains. For all of Chaykin's seemingly liberal leanings, he demonstrates very little sensitivity in his portrayal of women.
Because everything works on rules of three, this comic also follows the pattern with other works mentioned here, as this isn't Howard Chaykin writing The Shadow: it's The Shadow reimagined as a Howard Chaykin character. He looks and acts exactly like Reuben Flagg and the typical macho protagonist of Chaykin's other works, he's a cynical sleaze with an entirely new origin who half-assedly dons a garb to machine gun people, and I already wrote a separate piece on why the machineguns are kind of emblematic of everything wrong with this take.
I understand that Chaykin has, or used to have, a big following of sorts, and I've tried to wrap my head around this for years, but I genuinely still don't get why Shadow fans stomach this comic unless they happen to be Chaykin fans first and foremost, I really don't. Everything, fucking everything Shadow fans hate about modern depictions of the character can be traced right back to this. The parts that stuck and changed the character for the worse, like him being defined as an immortal, bloodthirsty warmonger who got all his skills and powers from a magic city in Tibet, or Lamont Cranston being a coward who fears and hates the Shadow, or his agents being expendable slaves, stuff that has been ingrained into the mythos through this and the Alec Baldwin movie and other comics, to the point that people now think of it as the norm, that it's the baseline of what The Shadow is, and I hate it, I genuinely fucking hate it,
I hate it so much that it's a big part of the reason why I created this blog and why I want so badly to get to write The Shadow, because I plainly couldn't stand not having ways to tell people that this is all wrong, that this is actively shooting down the character's odds for success, and that they are missing out on something really great, because the well has been tainted with garbage that won't go away and everytime I read the words Shambala in a Shadow comic, even an otherwise good or great one, I get just a wee bit cross.
The only semi-redeeming aspects I can think of for this comic is one or two cool moments, like when The Shadow hijacks a concert using his Devil's Whisper or when he tames dogs with a stare. Just breadcrumbs of "not garbage" amidst an ocean of anything but. I hate that talking about why I hate this comic in-length can almost feel like I'm still enticing people to check it out of curiosity, but if you wanna do that, fine, just know this: The worst part of Blood & Judgment, even if you don't care at all about what it did to The Shadow, is that it's boring.
It is a deeply boring comic. If you like Howard Chaykin to begin with, you'll probably like this okay (although even Chaykin fans told me that this is his weakest work and that even he seems to agree). If you don't, I plain don't see what you could get out of this.
The comic itself is just nothing. It's the comic book equivalent of a pre-schooler trying to get a reaction by swearing. It has nothing whatsoever other than half-assed attempts at shock value. The plot isn't there, the ideas are stale, the dialogue is needlessly oblique and comprised entirely of unfinished sentences, interrupted conversations and one-liners without build-up. The characters are all unlikable and uninteresting stooges with no personality, or joyless cartoons. There's no heart or emotion or logic, and it isn't even funny enough to succeed as just an outrageous exercise in 80s excess. There's nothing in here.
I get "why" it was popular enough at the time, a rising star creator penning a modern revival of an old character based on controversy that pissed off the old fans, it's an old story that still gets repeated today. But manufactured controversy is not a replacement for storytelling and it rarely ever exists to benefit the people who actually want to enjoy the stories, it only benefits those for the crude benefit of those who want to sell you something out of the controversy.
I guess they got their money's worth back then.
