I had a ball reading Get a Life, Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert. Chloe is a chronically ill lady who has let her care for her fibromyalgia overwhelm her. After a near-death experience, she decides that it's time to start living with courage again. So she makes a list to push herself. And it just so happens that Red, the superintendent of her building, can help her with a few items. (Naturally, sexual tension and feelings follow.)
The romance was really enjoyable. The book deals with serious topics without getting too dramatic, allowing it to be a very cozy and realistic-feeling read. Not too many tropes, just a whole lot of sexual tension and spicy scenes and falling in love. Plus, moments of miscommunication do not become big huge chapters-long struggles (a romance novel pet peeve of mine).
I didn't expect the fibro representation to hit quite as hard as it did. I have relatively minor fibro, but I recognized my experiences so distinctly in Chloe's world, even if mine are turned down a few clicks on the dial. I've identified with characters before, but this is a specific issue I've never read about in this way, a plus-size woman with chronic pain who needs to be careful but still wants to be brave, who worries about people not sticking around due to the "extra trouble," whose days all too often are caught between how much we can afford to push ourselves and how much we'd love to get done. Whose days are marked by before fibro and after. I wasn't prepared for the way it made me want to cry, more than once, to read alongside Chloe's story of rediscovering her toughness. For that alone, this one gets high marks from me.
Content warnings for discussions of emotional and physical abuse, ableism, racism.

still waiting for the brown sisters trilogy by talia hibbert to get a movie or (preferably) series adaptation. so many books being adapted into film and none are by popular Black authors, especially the romance books that are the easiest to adapt without the pressure of turning them into a big franchise. there is a severe lack of adult romcoms for Black women but a huge market for it, it's so frustrating

i really thought this was going to be 4 or 4.5 stars because it’s been such a fun and amazing romance. alas… the third act break up felt really forced and formulaic :( everything was great until then. i will say though, lady danbury HERSELF NARRATING THE BOOK???? absolutely fantastic!

february reading wrap up

The Fragile Threads of Power- V.E Schwab- ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
v.e schwab i must kiss you on the mouth this was such a beautiful delight to read. it's refreshingly complex and beautifully constructed with knife-edged characters and haunting whispers of magic

The Last Tale of the Flower Bride - Roshani Chokshi ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
I have never read anything like this in my life. It's a gothic fairytale in the truest sense of the world with shaded pixie hollows and rotten desires tangling with frayed strings of memory. It's desperate, aching, and gleams like spider perched in the dark. It's absolutely magnificent.

New to booklr <333
hihi everybody, y'all can call me Nana!
I've had this account for a while but recently decided to start actually talk about and review books, and I'm also looking for other people who have similar interests!
I'm really into mythology retellings/inspired book, and dragonfruit by makiia lucier it at the top of my list.
And non surprisingly I am also a slut for dark academia, so you already know katabasis by rf kuang is my most anticipated read for this year, without a doubt.
And my last in my top 3 is contemporary romance. Idk what happened in these last few months but I've been all over romance. And the brown sisters by talia hibbert had me HOOKED. 3 books in 3 days it was that serious
And ya,, I can't wait to get to know more people!!! :3

The Brown Sisters Series! This was such a fun time! I absolutely loved this family! I love Talia Hibbert writing! She writes such good spicy scenes! And has such great representation!
My rating
Eve Brown - 4/5 stars
Dani Brown- 3/5 stars
Chloe Brown- 3/5 stars
Eve was my favorite, her story was the one I resonated with the most, failure, and trying to find your way! Eve and Jacob were so cute loved their dislike to friendship to love 😍 it was so addicting!
Dani was a close second, watching Dani try and deal with the emotional block with commitment and relationship and Zafir with his kindness and patience was wonderful!
Chloe maybe be my least favorite, but her and Reds story was still so fun to read, Red helping her find her place again with her chronic illness, and helping her accept herself was just beautiful and their relationship was just one you should strive for 😍😍
Check out the Brown Sisters Series you won’t be disappointed 😍🥰🥵
