Never, had she thought, could a bed she had no choice in be so comfortable. And yet, when she would drag exhausted limbs through into the sanctity of her room, her face discarded on her bedside table and her bloodied and battered clothes discarded in a lump on the floor, it only took a minute, if not seconds, for Kate to sink into the same mattress and fall deep asleep. Those times, nowadays at least, she would find herself falling asleep in one position and waking up in another. More often than not, moved to her side of the bed and tucked under covers she had no recollection of sleeping under, let alone pulling over herself.
