im not sure if im the right person to be asking, my logic is whatever looks right works 😭

for anatomy try finding some irl pose refs on pinterest and breaking the shapes down like this vvv creds to albanenechi (if im reading the watermark right)

for anything else also just pull up refs and stuff, but honestly the biggest thing is once you understand anatomy have fun with it. i focused solely on getting things anatomically right for ages (albet kinda unsuccessfully) but it resulted in my art being incredibly stiff. have fun and experiment

Ok so I just found your blog and am in love with your art style and ofc your fat mikus! I just have a quick question--have any tips for drawing fat characters? I keep trying to, but every time it just looks so wierd. And I end up giving up. But I want to diversify sizes on my ocs! But anything that isn't the "standard" (aka what you see everywhere) size keeps looking off.

So any tips?

I can't fully say I'm an expert on the field since I'm still learning myself :D but here are the tips I can give on how I draw them

Notes: • Pear Shape-Star Shape/Teardrop shape • Give lines some weight- It emphasizes the softness of the character's body • ARMS- at first I didnt draw them plumpy, i got a comment saying the arms were thin so keep in mind. Fat gets distributed in the body, could be more on the belly or breasts or legs •BREASTS/CHEST- Gaining fat means gaining chests, but I don't think thats thats the case every time. While I see a lot of chubby characters being portrayed with heavy sets of jugs, based on my observation its not always the case and really just gives this idk weird portrayal of bodies that chubbs=big chests....hence the PEAR shape. •OBSERVATION and REFERENCING- This is the MOST IMPORTANT one. While I got used to drawing them without looking up references, it is important to work closer and learn more by observing side by side references to understand how body fat works. I think my works are still flat, having a reference gives you an idea how to approach on drawing it. •FACES/HEAD- I think I didnt change anything much with how I usually draw them. In my case I really like drawing them very cutesy like. The proportion of the face is smaller compared to the head giving an impression of (?) chubby face (dont know if I worded that correctly). •LINES- I tend to avoid sharp lines on chubby characters. I always try to make them look soft. •WEIRD TIP: How I actually learned is that I realize its like I'm drawing chibi characters but making them full(?). I realized that drawing chibi is somewhat similar to drawing chubby

I could probably make a checklist actually. I love quantifying things hold on.

to be something a vee will be interested in a media must have

non human main characters

plot based most on dialogue and characterization, less on lore and world

a gimmick, be it gameplay or a framing device or whatever

good banter with a sense of humor, never letting a depressive atmosphere overtake it even when things get serious

a sense of Charm, be it in the style or writing or whatever. you must know that heart was put into the media.

if an action game, short and trial-and-error friendly gameplay that you can backtrack to easily upon death

alternatively or if not an action game, a little bit easier than average gameplay so playthroughs remain fun and fast paced

if a media does not check all these boxes but checks some of these it may still be a veedia

heavily focused on music or rhythm

plot involves bending traditional hero vs villain plotlines or intentional bending of the tropes that make up its genre

fourth-wall breaking aspects specifically creating a bond between the viewer and the media's setting and characters

character customization mechanic or plenty of things to buy in general

collection mechanics, especially if collecting creatures

your surroundings can be permanently beautified by your actions in world

I feel like a lot of veedia (vee media) has a certain vibe in common. like it's gotta be simple/stylized it's likely gotta have non human characters it's gotta have some gimmick or quirk its gotta be first and foremost Charming and its gotta be dialogue driven. I have like 2 notable exceptions to like half of these, being live a live and twewy which are Square Enix Rpgs About Anime People but for the most part yeah all veedia has a certain genre. apart from the ones that don't. avert your eyes from the looming hellsinger.

OOOHH YES! but first i want to write a human Dolores of my own then we can get to the flirty stuff. * she is in her mid 30's and works as a librarian who LOVES books and is very smart and pretty and perfect.

she is MADDENINGLY in love with the Noir detective novel series " Five "max" Hargreeves and the Umbrella of Time. a long running series about a Old man who turns into a young man some times and solves crime with his dog Mr. pennycrumb. * she hated that when they turned the books into movies, they hired a actor that looked NOTHING like how she sees him in her head. Five looks like how she sees him in her head. she cant pinpoint why it bugs her so much. its just wrong. thats not him??? * one day well sorting books, she no clips into the backroom subways and gets stuck. idk how. s4 logic aka make shit up. but she thinks "what would Five do?" and copy his mapping and travel style. * and then they meet......Jesus my kinnie ass heart melts even thinking about it lol. * "five?!" "Delores?!.....are you..real this time....." "wait how do you know my name??....and yes i am very much real? are YOU?" "how do you know MY name?? and yes??" then they nervously chuckle and tell each other how they know each other. * they get a bit sad that the others Delores and five were not real and five admits he got the better end of the stick by being a cool book character....she didn't deserve to be just a......mannequin. but Delores reassures him that his life needed her and that's what gave it so much value. "and at least you got to physically hold me~ i just had....really embaressing art of you...." *Delores drawing him then she thinks he's not looking. she wishes he was a bit older but her self shipping ass is used to his age "powers" but knows this Five cant turn back. at least he's not 13 Five lol. *he's tried to explain his age situation a few times.... shes so understanding about it and five, for the first time, feels seen....and got does his face get red. she knows he's a old man. she loves him BECAUSE he's actually an old man. ANYWAY TO THE FLIRTY STUFF. MY BRAIN IS JUST ON FIRE WITH HUMAN DELORES. * they CAN NOT stop looking at each other. five feels so stupid being THIS flustered. its not his wife. he knows this. but god....shes so stunning. younger then his Delores but he doesn't mind. * she's taller then him no matter what. she was taller then him when he was old, young doesn't matter. shes a tall women and he loves that about her. *her always behind his shoulder correcting his math. and him huffing and admitting shes right. *she likes to head to him. he likes listening. hearing her voice with none of his own voice fused in is so refreshing. he would read his head in her lap and just relax for once in his life. *them slow dancing and mumbling soft words of comfort to each other. *she loves booping his nose. at first, it bits him because the handler used to but ends up finding it nice. its a trait she would have. *he loves watching her move. dance. walk. talk. shes in front of him. again, their eyes are glued to each other and its hard hard not to. just knowing their loves are real keeps them going. *that art meme of all the lovestruck chibis surrounding a very flustered person. that's Delores if she walked into the deli. imagine all the fives looking over and melting in surprise. crumbling in their seats because they are filled with "i miss my wife,tails" energy. the five we are following for this post has to fight them back and give protective glares well she admits the attention is nice and oh god! so many fives! *when five finds a way to return, he doesn't fucking hide it and want to introduce her to his family so bad. she is worried about ending up in a different timeline. he understands the risk but at this point, he just wants the love of his life. and Shes so starved for adventure that she agrees wholeheartedly.

now onto your question! that's some good food for thought uhhhh i can try to estimate?? its been a while but i shld have some rough ideas abt each that i can share! the time frame each comic/panel takes is highly dependent on WHAT kind of comic it is. i hv two kinds of comics I usually do: 1) full-length, and 2) goofy/4koma.

i have a few full-length comics laying about in my archive, but my most recent one/best example is Ghosts which was around uh.... 7 pages excluding the bonus panels! in terms of the process, i usually divide it into 5 stages:

Drafting: this is either the fastest stage OR the slowest depending entirely whether i know what im doing LMAO,, if i have a set idea for what i want to happen, i might get drafts done in a few hours, but if i flounder, it can take a few days 🤔

Lineart: relatively simple enough once i hv the draft down, so id say anything ranging from an hour to half a day if theres nothing else going on irl

Block colouring (main actors): there are DEFINITELY easier and more professional ways to do this with mass-selection and the lasso fill/bucket tool, but idk how to do that on SAI (my art program) so i colour everything by hand HAHA which makes the process longer.... half a day to a day?

Shading: THE WORST!!! definintely my least favourite bc i find it tedious due to all the details/prettification of elves that i am legally obliged to pour into this stage 😭😭 as a result, it can take days!!!

Background + Lighting + Final Rendering: similar to the previous stage haha it just depends on how much effort i wanna put into the final product looking nice. roughly a few days? it kind of meshes with stage 4 anyways haha

just for fun, i hope this process gif for page 6 can illustrate that 👇

these are just rough estimates, bc all in all, the time it takes so finish a page is really dependent on how free I am hahaha. Also, I usually work on full-length comics like Ghost which have more than one page all at once, which means I drafted all 7 pages at once, then did the lineart for all 7 pages at once, coloured at once, shaded rendered bla bla bla 😚 iirc, i think it took me 11 days in total to finish Ghosts before the end of June last year!

For goofy/4-koma, its usually just one page with less detailed/more cartoonish/chibi character styles so it takes a day or two days at most! again, it all boils down to how free i am hehe

YEAH SORRY THIS ENDED UP BEING AN INFO DUMP but thank you so much again for asking and letting me ramble! <3 i ended up having a lot of fun looking back on my drafts n thinking back on my processes.... theres defininitely room for improvement, but thats another worry for another day heheh 😎

In the official video Rin and Len have their default outfits so i decided to make my own desins for this, I'm actually really happy with these minus the chalky color of the hair.

I tried to give them a cozy feel because thats the emotions the song gives yknow and i think i pulled that off, the color scheme is also reddish brown because the song is about a coffee shop so i think that is a cool detail. I tend to avoid color schemes like these but I think i managed to make it work. Also I was cookin with Rins hair its so nice, I allways like messing around with the Vocaloids designs when I do this sorta thing I think the curls and making it slightly longer really work with this song. I've never made a len desin for anything so his is more meh lol.

anyway heres one unfinished drawing

this was for the "eiga mite mo ii ne, karaoke demo ii ne, aiteru ka mite miyou ka" part, rin was gunna do a little bounce and len would pop up when his line happens. The mv mostly would be in my normal style rather than this chibi one I think i also planned to use chibis for the part about rain idk

anyway heres some animations these 2 would play back to back

the bell ringing would be.... the bit where the bell rings at the start. IDK why this is so well animated but it is good job me.

imediatley would be followed with Rin's ribbon bouncing cutley

and thats all the assets i finished lol yeah i wasn't kidding when i said i didn't get far but still may as well post em lol I have lots of scrapped animations and video ideas lol for every finished one you see theres a dozen scrapped ones

Some thoughts about my recent drawings since I was very tired when I posted them and I want to talk about them:

First of all, I'm dying bcs me from several months ago said this(after I made Hussar Seb):

Me now: *aggressively researching for hours on end the Austrian Kaiser's imperial regalia in order to draw Emperor Seb and cooing over how cool and interesting and regal everything is*

And I can now say that the Emperor's clothing is indeed slay and I just wasn't researching hard enough. Though then again, here is a comparison of what Charles VI(who baby king Seb is referencing) vs Francis II(emperor at the time of the Napoleonic War):

So like, I can understand my hesitation back then with Francis I being the only emperor I had really seen atp. I know irl the long hair is wigs, but I really do think it suits them!! Seb's in the AU is natural though 🤭

I said but I basically just wanted to see if I could draw all my various Sebs throughout the ages and then it was turning out so well that I pulled out my tablet to do it digitally!! It was really fun to do actually. I did them all 3 at the same time so I wouldn't get tired with doing one. Its still always interesting for me to look back at the process:

Rendering is probably my favorite part, especially doing all the gold stuff is a lot of fun :D

Next project: finish the painting of vettonso!!!! Doing chibis is so fun cause I don't have to worry about accuracy as much so yay....can't wait to get back to normal sized people....
