I was reminded of it, like, they're both mers here, but still managed to have the courting behavior misunderstanding and I love that for me
Kokichi being friendly while Shuichi's freaking out bc nobody has been this forward with him before he fucking explodes when Kokichi starts flirting for real
Shuichi wants to agonize over Kokichi having such cold reactions to his flirting and be emo about it so bad, but Kokichi keeps flirting too so he's like "maybe I should be more bold too if I want to see a reaction, but… I shan't"
Sini: Poor guy I like to think Kokichi begins to catch on He's interested in how merfolk interact with one another
But I want to milk as much as I can out of oblivious Kokichi, it's so rare He thinks Shuichi is just awkward and still a little uncomfortable around him after being scared So he's extra friendly to show it's safe but nothing seems to work The only thing that changed is that he noticed how pretty Shuichi's face is from getting so close to it all the time
And I feel like they mutually can learn from each other. Kokichi focused on the cool, shiny aspects of mermaid world and doesn't know the ugly truth of capitalism and puritans or any ideologies mermaids adopted from humans really, he was a happy siren, living with his pod, eating fish, thinking life is simple like that and mermaids are the same, just surrounded by pretty, shiny things and he wants in on that
Wdym you don't live with grandparents, aunts, uncles and 10 cousins, Shuichi? You don't have 10 cousins?! Wtf
Ves: kokichi n his massive family chilling in the sea what crimes will they commit don't learn about capitalism kokichi don't do it
He doesn't understand. If another mermaid spots them and says that's gay, he's not going to know what they mean, Shuichi will try to explain and he'll get even more confused about gender
Sini: HE'S SO CONFUSED Why are merfolk so complicated?? This is more NSFW but Shuichi being more outwardly forward when in intimate scenarios cause we all know how he is in canon, and Kokichi being caught off guard cause he's never seen that side of him before. Meanwhile Shuichi has bought those stereotypes of sirens being sexual and expecting Kokichi to reciprocate, but he doesn't. And he's left thinking he did something wrong when Kokichi just isn't ready to be that vulnerable [Sini cooking again, look at her go, my wonderful wife]
They would need to have a Talk about that I think Kokichi would be at least a little hurt about Shuichi still going off a stereotype instead of communicating straight up at this point in a relationship
Sini: Yeah…. But Kokichi is so forward with flirting, so- He thought if he was forward this once he'd like it
Merman & a Siren AU (saiouma)
In this au they aren't considered mythical or anything, people know of them and live alongside mermaids
It's not unusual for mermaids to get in relationships with humans, work in either entertainment or where swimming is a needed skill, Shuichi's parents are still famous in that world
Sirens however get all the bad rep, they're seen as primitive predators, kinda like sharks except extremely often also sexualized at the same time, people are scared of them, mermaids hate them and do nothing to clear those misconceptions about sirens being less civilized
more world building: sirens are intersex and don't have the concept of gender, that's related to the plot because that's one of the two aspects of how mermaids and sirens started to hate each other. The first and main one was that mermaids wanted to live in a merged society with humans, they were interested in leading human-like lifestyles, sirens were strongly opposed like I already said, but mermaids contacted people anyway and were faced with all the ideas people had about them and explaining why sirens aren't a part of that conversation so they went along with pushing anything negative people thought on "Oh, that's sirens, we don't do that" and that's where it becomes important, the timeline is - people hunted sea creatures from ancient times to late middle ages with even further delay in some places - mermaids contacted people in the early 1800s because of the romanticism era, people seemed more open to mythical/paranormal stuff so they took their chances, but we're speaking of Europe so it was still a very Christian world so people had concerns about myths where they get lured into the sea by those beautiful half naked ladies and mermaids were like "they're not even ladies but they do lure their food in with singing" and the church was like "that's worse" - since then mermaids adopted some of the human believes and a lot of their culture so they became a lot more prudish to fit in with people and yes, they have capitalism. So they view the fact that sirens don't label themselves as deviant, they feel the same way about them living in packs rather than nuclear families.
For sirens clothes and jewelry are just decorative things they have no need for, but for mermaids clothes are a necessity and jewelry is a sign of status
Sirens aren't allowed in mermaid cities and usually don't try to get close to them, they perceive mermaids as shallow and are off-put (if not to say outraged and disgusted) by their choice to live in harmony with humans who used to hunt them and still have all those gross stereotypes about sirens
since it's been 200 years of separation the younger generations are losing the idea of what the other community is like or that they used to mix at all, for example Ouma's tail is atypically vibrant in color for a siren because he has some mermaid ancestors he doesn't even know about
On how closely they're related: if different types of mermaids were different breeds of dogs then sirens would be wolves (but they have variety too)
Shuichi is a merman, while both his parents are celebrities with typical bright shiny looks mermaids estabilished as their beauty standard, he dislikes standing out and refuses to wear jewelery like they do, his tail is also kinda dark and again - not shiny, maybe a bit when near surface
Kokichi is a siren who really wishes he was a mermaid, not that they're better but he doesn't want to be a predator, he just eats fish and would never harm a human but he's still upset, also he loves shiny stuff but it's so much harder for sirens to get anything when mermaids occupy coral reefs and people aren't selling anything to them, he can either wait for luck finding something or try to steal from the mermaids, he's been sneaking near the places where mermaids live, he's lucky his tail is on the more vibrant side of purple and well, if he's been doing absolutely everything possible to make it shiny and pass as a merman then that's his business
So when the two first meet it's on the outskirts of mermaids city, Shuichi wanted to get some alone time outside of the bustling city, Kokichi was treasure hunting, neither of them should be there - on the dangerous border zone
It's assumed to be dangerous because of the possibility of a meeting like this, but the funny thing is, despite having known of this, being warned all their lives, both of them assume that the other is the same type of creature based on minimal differences and lack of hostility from the other
They only realize after deciding to go back when they start to swim in different directions, at that point they've already talked for hours and were developing at the very least a friendly relation if not flirty
if there were flirty vibes then Ouma would be the oblivious one because merman flirting is far more subtle and for a siren who grew up in a big pack gestures like touching a shoulder and small compliments are neutral nice behaviours
the plan was to keep talking on the way back and arrange ways to keep in contact but then they turn in opposite directions and just. Freeze. At the realization
and Saihara really doesn't know much about sirens other than the scary stories so he thinks Ouma will try to eat him now that they know the truth about each other so he swims away really fast
of course they meet again, even closer to the mermaid's city because Saihara is still a loner but doesn't want to risk swimming so far out after that meeting, ironically that does not save him from his fate, that's what I decide, Ouma's also there
it's a popular date location out of the city on a day when it's unlikely to be used because it's the middle of the week during Fall, it's a good place for Ouma's treasure search, he actually finds some necklace this time
it was meant to be a gift once, not too long ago, probably at the end of summer vacation, it's still in great condition and now it's his, to celebrate he starts humming and it attracts some small fishes, those pretty colorful ones that live in the reef with mermaids
that's when Saihara sees him and it's such a disney princess moment, looking so happy, humming a tune, surrounded by a flock and then he reaches for one of them and eats it just like that
Saihara doesn't quite muffle his sound of utter horror and that notifies Ouma of his presence and they have a funny moment where Shuichi panics, says something like "Please don't eat me" and Kokichi just gives him a deadpan look, points at their height difference and says "You think I could do that?"
The thing that devours Saihara instead is his curiosity, having realised that he's been mislead he becomes fascinated with finding out the truth. Turns out there's a lot of ugly history he was never going to hear about in school.
In pursuit of answers he follows the siren he just met into a world unknown to the rest of the merfolk
#made by me#shuichi saihara#kokichi ouma#kokichi oma#danganronpa#ndrv3#oumasai#saiouma#also. I have something big coming in this AU specifically. but I'll keep it secret for now

A ghost on campus [1]
The summer sun-blessed Hope Peak with its soft beams as the students met and talk to each other outside. Centaurs were playing soccer with minotaurs, satyrs, and unicorns. Mermaids enjoyed the cool shade the trees provided, taking big sips from their water bottles. They were accompanied by vampires who feared getting sunburns as their pale skin made them quite vulnerable. Harpies and Sphinxes soared through the sky, passing a ball from one to the other. Werewolves sat on the benches, eating their lunch and/or sharing news with manticores. And lastly, Nagas and dragons just enjoyed the heat. Shuichi Saihara, Kaito Momota, and Maki Harukawa had settled themselves under one of the bigger maple trees. Its bark was dark and ruff, having survived many harsh winters but its lush leaves looked so young and fresh, almost as if they were put in the wrong place. Kaito was hunched over a math book, the end of the pen in his mouth as he chewed on it. His sharp teeth having already made their mark on the poor item: "So… I have to subtract by two?"
Shuichi nodded, body stretched out on the grass. He just got done preening one of his wings, correcting his feathers' position as well as getting rid of those who had been damaged by their last PE class. Deciding to be a mediator between a werewolf and naga had not been one of his smarted moments. He looked up: "Yes. And then you need to get this X over to the other side."
"… I don't get it." Kaito said.
"Maybe you'd understand if you visit class more than twice times a month," Maki commented, eyes not leaving the book she was reading. "Not my fault that astronaut training takes up so much of my time. I can't make all-nighters 'cause I need my full energy." The vampire sighed, turning the page with a barely suppressed: "Idiot." Kaito didn't seem to hear her -or decided to ignore her: "Besides, I *am* honing my talent, aren't I? I don't hear anybody complain when Shuichi goes to solve another case."
"Ah yes," Shuichi chuckled: "but my uncle doesn't call me in unless it's a special case so I don't miss much." he stretched his arms, claws poking out, gleaming in the few beams that fought through the canopy. "It's a good thing too. Then my sidekick can help me while I get ready to go to space!"
"Ah, I don't think-"
"That being said; Let's get back to these problems, Sidekick!" "Heeey!" came a voice above their heads. Having made his spot on one of the highest branches, Kokichi Oma looked down. "What do you want?" Maki's voice was sharp. "Oh nothing, I just couldn't help but overhear. Should have guessed the idiot would be overwhelmed by the simplest things." using his tail by gripping the other branches, Kokichi slithered down. To prevent a fight, Shuichi got up. If anything happened, he could jump in. Annoyed, Kaito's ears moved back: "What did you call me?"
"Geez, are you deaf too? Listen, I just want to help. Be a good classmate and all that. Buuut looks like you don't want that."
"You got that right! Shuichi's here already teaching me." he threw his arm around the sphinx's shoulders. Kokichi looked between the two, face uncharacteristically blank. "Why do you want to help Kaito so suddenly?" Maki asked eyebrows pulled together.
"…"
"Let me guess; you lied?" Shuichi sighed to which Kokichi laughed: "Got me again, Detective." he continued with his arms crossed between his head: "Yeah, that was a lie."
"So… You just wanted to cause trouble again? Confuse us?" Maki said, eyes glowing red. "Nah, that's become boring. I wanted to ask you guys something."
"Ask… Us?" Shuichi frowned.
"Yeah! And you have to promise to be honest. No lies! No half-truths either!" Shuichi watched Kokichi's finger wiggle from side to side as if he was a teacher, already reprimanding them. The three others exchanged quick looks: "I guess a question won't hurt."
Kaito crossed his arms: "What do you want?" The naga leaned forward, plum eyes looking around. His voice dropped to a whisper: "Have you heard the rumor? The one about the ghost?"
"G-Ghost?!"
"No, I haven't heard anything." Shuichi gave a small yelp as Kaito's grip tightened, choking him. "Yeah, apparently there is a ghost walking around campus at night." Kokichi explained: "From what I've heard it has huge antlers, two hooves, and red glowing eyes. And it's huuuge! I guess it could even be considered a demon."
"Demon?!"
"Kaito! I-I can't b-breathe…!"
"A demon? Do you really think we'd believe a stupid lie like that?" Maki's wings twitched ever so slightly. "Don't shoot the messenger, killer girl. I'm only telling you what I heard. And that is not a lie. Now if you would excuse me, I have some important supreme leader business to attend to." and thus he slithered off. Shuichi's face started to turn blue when his friend finally let go. The werewolf was shivering horribly, face pale. "You don't seriously believe him, do you?" Maki let out a short breath: "There is no such thing as ghosts or demons."
"D-Don't say it! You might attract them!"
Shuichi who had stopped gasping for air and whose face had started to regain natural colors, reassuringly patted his best friend's back: "I'm sure Kokichi was just trying to get under your skin. It wouldn't be the first time."
"Y-Yeah… Y-You're probably right…" The sphinx smiled and put a wing over his friend's slumped back.
"We should probably head to class now." Maki got up and cleaned her skirt. "Uh… I think I'll go to my room. I'm... Not exactly feeling well."
"… Fine."

Partial Speed paint + finished piece for my Ultimate Actor! Shuichi au❣️❣️
Additional Information cause I don’t have a word/time limit here:
-He can be a guy, cause he managed to convince his parents that it’s easier to make it in the acting industry if he’s a guy and once he gets super big and can’t be shut down, he’ll “reveal the truth” and use it to make a social commentary or something
-his parents still missgender and deadname him in private unfortunately
-His Parents are very abusive, not physically cause they wouldn’t want to mark him up, the he wouldn’t look good for the cameras, but emotionally,
-they treat him like a trophy to maintain rather than a human being and only acknowledge his existence when it has to do with his acting career, (they completely micromanage him in this regard, he has almost no say in this part of his life)
-the actual raising of him was left to the butlers and maids in their house
-they also make him feel like he’s worthless for the slightest slip ups, even in his day to day life, if he’s anything but perfect he’s no good
-He’s in physically better shape than canon Shuichi, since on top of his strictly maintained diet he has a workout program designed for keeping actors “attractive”
-He’s still smart and naturally perceptive, since this is still the same Shuichi as in canon, he just lived with his parents rather than his Uncle, but those parts of him aren’t as well developed and so they’re not as strong as Canon
-Shuichi is surprisingly easy to fluster, since he isn’t used to genuine compliments, it’s the one time he can’t keep up his mask, he just trys to play it off as being humble, but the stuttering and red face kinda give it away to people who aren’t totally oblivious
-His first friend is still Kaede, but it’s because she recognizes him and is a bit of a fan, rather than because she sees an introvert needing to be brought out of his shell
-she’s not any type of extreme fan, just likes his work, so she approaches him about it and they end up talking about what it’s like being on stage, instant bond!
-He and Kokichi were not on good terms at first, that takes a while to develop, since Kokichi takes one look at him and goes “oh he fake as hell”
-so he starts bothering Shuichi to get him to snap and show his true self, but is suprised when Shuichi starts trying to figure out Kokichi right back (natural detective instinct lol)
-Kokichi starts respecting Shuichis mind and so the “figuring each other out” thing turns into more of a playful rivalry, they bond over this anddd
- another thing they do, called an “act off”, basically one of them (typically Kokichi) will start a random improv session at random points in the day and they’ll keep bouncing off each other, till someone runs out of lines, they are then the loser since they can’t keep the scene going
-Shuichi has never lost once, since he has so many lines from different plays crammed in his head and hey it’s his ultimate for a reason, the longest one of these “act offs” have ever lastes is 50 minutes
-Kokichi throws a tantrum every time he loses, which is every time the play, and and always over dramatically promises that “Next time, I’LL be the winner!!”
-Actor Shuichi is nothing like canon Shuichi, he’s cool, suave and confident, except...he’s not, it’s all an act, his entire life is an act, firstly because it’s necessary, but also to keep people around, they won’t like the real him so he puts on a mask for every new person, tailored to them to make them happy
-honestly Shuichi Hates acting, but he can’t show that, especially now that it’s his Ultimate, he’ll never be able to be anything els, he knows that and he’s miserable
That’s all I can think of rn, if anyone has any questions about more specific information, feel free to ask!!

SHSL Barista Shuichi x Reader One-shot: A Very Mysterious Birthday
Shuichi rather groggily awoke up that morning. Though taking a glance at the standing desk calendar atop his bedside table perked him up faster than drinking a latte with several espresso shots in it, like the ones he’d often make for himself every morning. It was his birthday! You, his partner, the SHSL Detective said you’d spend the whole day with him. It was rarer for such a thing to happen. You were rather busy with most everyone constantly requesting your services.
You were so busy, you two even met when you were working. You were looking for an ex-friend of some person who had cut contact with them and wanted to reconnect. You met him at the Hope’s Peak cafeteria as he worked, requesting a drink since you had stayed up the night prior investigating, needing more energy to keep going just a little longer. Shuichi was immediately intrigued by you, he had heard of you and how you were often found collapsed and being sent to the nurse’s office, never resting when you had work to do. At first, he chatted with you to try to stall you, so you’d rest just a little longer but all too quickly the pair of you were deep in conversation of your pasts. Shuichi told you how he kind of worked as a detective, working with his uncle at his detective agency. Of how he’d often go on coffee runs for his uncle and other detectives. He quickly saw how expensive constantly going out for coffee became so he opted to get the proper equipment and started making coffee for everyone at the office. Some of the detectives started bragging about how great his drinks were and soon the office became a detective agency and coffee house hybrid with people dropping by solely to buy Shuichi’s coffee. Shuichi didn’t truly throw himself into being a barista till he solved a case he regretted solving… he didn’t go into detail about that, instead explaining how because of that incident he sort of escaped and gained the courage to look people in the eye again through serving them coffee and making light banter to lift their moods when cases got especially dark. From that day onward you’d go to the cafeteria for a coffee break to get a drink from your favorite barista and eventual boyfriend.
He so excitedly started texting you but got no reply. This was not too surprising. You often left your phone on silent or vibrate when working on a case, and he knew despite how true to your word you tried to be, you always got tangled up in cases, focusing solely on them. He wasn’t surprised if in the night you had gotten a text relating to a new case and started working on it. He was admittedly a little disappointed, but he couldn’t help but smile to himself imagining how you were likely so passionately dashing around or snooping through a book.
Much to his surprise though, when he opened the front door, he saw you there. You were sound asleep, sitting on the ground, leaning against the wall right beside his door. Your head drooped forward, a lollipop stick sticking out of your mouth. Your signature dark, forest green trench coat was draped over yourself like a blanket. “Y/N?” He raised a brow as a lopsided smile drew on his lips seeing you so peacefully there. He kneeled down beside you, gently shaking your shoulder. You slowly awoke, slightly raising your head and blinked a few times. “Hmm? Ah, morning gorgeous.” You chuckled seeing how his cheeks instantly flushed such a bright red. “… You need to wake up. Here-” Helping you to your feet, he led you inside. “Get inside and I’ll make you a drink.”
You sighed, smelling the delectable aroma of coffee brewing, though you were used to the smell since it always lingered in Shuichi’s clothes and on his hair, you never grew tired of or noseblind to the sent. You loved the light thud of the mug against the small wooden table as it was placed before you. The steam that raised up, clouded your vision and tickled your nose was delightful. As you brought the mug to your lips, you spotted the latte art was in the shape of a heart. You were going to say something but stopped, seeing Shuichi was taking a sip from his own drink, clearly trying to mask his blush being that of the heat, not the slight embarrassment and excitement from making that simple design for you. Deciding it was too soon to fluster the poor boy you decided to let it go, instead gently smiling, letting him know the gesture was appreciated.
Propping your elbows on the table, you leaned forward a little getting just a smallest bit closer to your boyfriend who sat across from you. “So, what does the birthday boy want to do today? I know it’s Monday so classes will be on, but we can just skip, it’s not like the school will care or it will effect our grades much.” “Hmm… I haven’t thought much on it actually. I’m just looking forward to being with you today.” “Aw. I’m glad you enjoy my company so much. But I believe we should do something special. Something you like but don’t get to do often, something like that. We could go find some unknown library and snoop through for some obscure novel, you only have so few unread novels left.” “Yeah, that would be nice.” Shuichi looked past you to the wall blocked by tower after tower or cardboard boxes that reached the ceiling, filled to bursting with books. “Honestly, I wouldn’t mind going for a walk in the park, or a lunch date.” “Ah, when I was helping Tanaka search for his lost dog the other day, I heard of this new sushi place that opened up. It’s a little on the expensive side, but from what I gathered it’s well worth the price! Though we’ll have to make sure Hanamura doesn’t find out, you know how he get’s when people go out to eat on school days when he’s in the kitchen.” “Ah, maybe we could ask him to make us something and we have a picnic at the park.” “Great thinking! We can eat after finding a new book!”
“Yeah, but I’d still like to go to class today.” You paused for a moment, taking a sip of your drink. “Really? I know you like studying, but… why not make an exception. We can just ask Kiibo or someone else for notes.” Shuichi glanced over to his bed before getting up and taking the notebooks off of it. “Well. You said you’d be with me all day. I know I take notes for you when your working, but I can’t even remember the last time you even showed up to class. Was it the first day?” Oh, damn it. This was not going as planned. And knowing how altruistic Shuichi was, he was not going to let this go till you went to class for at least half the school day to make sure you were not falling behind on your studies. Shuichi then passed the notebooks to you. “Uh, thanks. But today is your birthday. Let’s celebrate today and I’ll come to class tomorrow.” “… No, I… I’d like to spend my birthday like this. I care about you; I don’t want you to start falling behind. A great gift for me is to just see you’re still doing fine.” How… HOW WERE YOU SUPPOSED TO REFUTE SUCH A KIND SENTIMENT!? “Shuichi… You’re much too kind.” UGH, AND EVEN JUST SEEING HIM SMILING SO TENDERLY WAS MELTING YOUR HEART! HOW DID YOU END UP WITH SUCH AN AMAZING GUY!? But exactly because he was amazing, you had to make his birthday great! “Well, I’ll keep true to my word. If you go to class, I’ll follow you.” “Thank you.”
“After coffee, why don’t we get some breakfast? We have to eat something other than candy you know.” He lightly pointed the treats tucked away in one of the many hidden pockets of your trench coat. “Of course, I know! I only go for the sugar rush when I can’t get any good caffeine.” you said as you took out a box of pocky, munching away on the chocolate covered sticks. Shuichi simply stared at you. “… Sometimes!” “Let’s get an actual meal, Y/N.” “But! Before that… Wanna play a game?” For a moment Shuichi wondered what kind of game you had in mind before noticed how you simply held one end of a pocky stick between your teeth. “O-OH! Uh-umm…” You stood up, playfully ruffling Shuichi’s hair before making your way for the door. You stopped, seeing he wasn’t moving. “How come you’re still sitting there? I thought we were going to get breakfast.” Shuichi quickly followed after you, thinking about how to get you back for always making him blush so much from your light teasing and compliments.
Hand in hand you walked towards the school. The chilly wind picked up the red, orange, and yellow leaves tossing a splash of warm color into the cool, cloudy sky, a tinge of pink dusting both of your cheeks. Though you had been dating for a little over a year now, holding hands still sent your hearts a flutter. Both of you though it was a little silly, but you loved it all the same. As the pair of you were discussing about what to have for breakfast, Kaede came charging towards you two, calling out your name. “Akamatsu, is something wrong?” “Yeah! Someone stole the grand piano from my lab!” “… You… what? The grand piano, was stolen?” “Y/N, please, I need your help finding it.” You glanced to Shuichi sheepishly. “Y/N, it’s fine. Let’s go investigate.” “Really, you sure?” “Yes.”
Just as Akamatsu said, the piano was stolen. The small stage in the middle of the room looked rather empty without it. You kneeled down getting a closer look at the stage. “I don’t see any scuff marks, so it doesn’t appear it was forcefully pushed around at any point.” Shuichi ran a hand along the door frame. “I don’t see anything odd here. Akamatsu, when was the last time you saw your piano?” “Last night, right before the school was closed. I was practicing as usual, then the closing bell rang, and I left for my dorm to sleep for the night.” As Shuichi questioned Kaede you quickly fiddled with your phone, checking if any of your classmates had seen it. Shuichi paced over to your side. “The only time someone could have taken it was last night, after the school was closed.” “Hmm, some are still texting back but it seems no one’s seen it, at least as of yet.” “Hey, normally only staff is allowed after school, right?” “… Yeah, you think of something?” “Students can get into the school if they’re injured, to get to the nurse’s office, so it’s possible someone used that as an excuse to get into the school.” True, true.” “But… why would someone steal a grand piano in the first place?” “True. If we knew the motivation, it could be a clue as to where it could have gone.” “Akamatsu, was there anything special or different about the piano?” She crossed her arms and closed here eyes, thinking for a moment. “It’s not the piano itself but Oma threatened to place a prank in the piano for stopping one of his pranks the other day.” Taking a quick glance around the pair of you realized there were no clues to be found, the only lead you had was that statement.
Holding hands, fingers intertwined the pair of you went searching. Kokichi had yet to text back so you doubted he’d respond if you had asked where he currently was. At best he was only slightly cooperative, so you didn’t expect much. Since it was still the morning, the pair of you decided to see if you could catch him at the cafeteria. “Saihara, my favorite barista! Where have you been all morning?” The chef stopped waving from his open window before smirking, his eyes landing on you. “Oh- Y/N, I see. Don’t mind me, you two have fun now.” “Hanamura! Actually, we’d like to talk with you.” Shuichi eagerly dragged you over to Teruteru who looked a bit more smug than usual. You immediately grew worried he had something planned. “Have you seen Oma this morning?” “Why in fact, I have. He was with Gokuhara speaking about something. Going to a park I think?” That took you by surprise. “A park?” “What was it again?... Oh after breakfast they were planning to go to Showa Memorial Park.” “… You have got to be kidding me. The largest park in Tokyo, one-million six-hundred fifty-three thousand square meters.” Initially you were shocked but thinking on it… “That’s actually smart. Not only is the place massive there are also museums and sports facilities, there’s endless places to hide, likely taking us all day to find him, assuming he even bothers to stay in the park and not leave before we can find him.” “It’s also at the edge of Tokyo, it will take a while to even get there.” The pair of you looked to one another understanding the case would come to a standstill if you didn’t go there to search. “A date at the park sounds like a lovely idea! Wait right here a moment you two.” Before Shuichi would protest, Teruteru already ducked back into the kitchen. Quickly Teruteru was already back with a hand basket full of food in plastic containers. “Now off with you two. Make sure you have lots of fun now! Maybe Y/N will have a surprise for you tonight, Saihara.” You quickly dragged Shuichi away before Teruteru could make more obvious implications.
After a rather short train ride the pair of you were at the park. Even just standing at the entrance of the place one could see just how gorgeous it was. The ginkgo and maple trees were absolutely covered in those fiery leaves as well as the ground. The wind picked up, the sounds of chimes and rustling in the air rang out. The greenery was still lush, making the place look so lively. Shuichi could not believe you were looking at your phone instead of that view. Wait… “Y/N? Why are you on your phone? We’re investigating.” “Oh, I was seeing if I could contact Oma.” You quickly switched off your phone and slipped it into your pocket. “He still hasn’t responded since I asked about the piano. So, now we’ll just have to search this entire giant place.”
And so, the pair of you walked around, taking in the never-ending gorgeous sights. “… Maybe we should come here for a proper date some time. It’s gorgeous.” Shuichi glanced over to you, loving the aw in your eyes. “… It is… but not as gorgeous as you.” “Shuichi, that is the most clichéd line I have ever heard.” You gently shook your head while smiling. “It may be clichéd, but it’s true. To me, at least. I love you.” Your cheeks flushed hearing those worlds. “Sh-shush! We have an investigation to be working on.” “I love you.” He kept saying those words over and over, pulling himself closer to you. He himself was blushing, but seeing you so happily flustered from his tender words made it impossible for him to stop. “T-this is payback for earlier, isn’t it!” “… Maybe.” “Damn it, Shuichi!” “I love you.” You melted hearing how softly he said those words. “Lunch break!” “Huh?” “We need a lunch break!” You quickly dragged Shuichi off the path and onto the grassy area, making sure you were leading the way as to make some distance between the two of you, and to hide your blush. You needed a moment to cool off from Shuichi’s sweet antics. “Tch. It’s no wonder I have a sweet tooth, I have the sweetest boyfriend ever. How could I not develop a taste for the stuff.” Though you were mumbling to yourself Shuichi still caught your words, feeling his heart beat just a bit faster at the sentiment behind them.
The pair of you sat by a lake and a field of bright blue, purple, white, and pink flowers. Teruteru was Shuichi’s friend so he didn’t think the chef would lace the food with anything, but what Teru said lingered in the barista’s mind. He also found how quickly the food was prepared to be suspicious, there was even a small blanket and some utensils in the basket as if Teru had prepared this ahead of time. Perhaps his birthday gift to Shuichi was going to be setting him and you up on a picnic date? “Hey, Shuichi.” “Huh!?” He was suddenly snapped from his thoughts hearing your voice and feeling you lean your head on his shoulder. “Think it’s possible Gokuhara and Oma are out on the lake?” “Oh, there are rental boats over there… I think. It’s a bit hard to see.” “Let’s go check it out after this.” “Sure.” For a while after the pair of you simply lay atop the blanket, watching the clouds roll by occasionally snacking on one of your treats.
“It’s a bit wobbly, but you’ll be fine.” You stood on the boat, your arms outstretched for Shuichi, who nervously inched towards the boat, fearing toppling it over and sending you both into the giant lake. It wasn’t like either of you had a change of clothes. “Don’t worry, just hop on.” He held your hands with a viper like grip as you gently pulled him aboard. “See, we’re fine.” “… Yeah, we are. Sorry, for taking so long.” “It’s okay. Just enjoy yourself now that we’re here.” You both promptly sat down, you taking the oars. You rowed and rowed letting Shuichi take in the breath-taking sights. “Oh, actually I think now would be a good time to give you my gift.” “A birthday gift, for me?” “Don’t look so surprised.” You guiltily shrank in your seat a little, looking off to the side. “I knew it was likely I’d get caught up in some mess and not give you my original gift of staying with you all day, so I got you something to make up for that.” You searched through one of your inner coat pockets, taking out a rather large and thick book. There was no title on the front or back. Everything was blank except for the first few pages. The tops of these pages were labeled ‘Tokyo adventures’ Most of it was writings of others about adventures they had with Shuichi in Tokyo, there were even some pictures. “I know you have in interest in travel, so I thought I’d make you a travel journal. I know most others are probably going to get you something related to novels or coffee and I wanted to get you something more… personal? Something others don’t really know about you. I hope it’s okay.” Shuichi gently ran a hand over the cover before placing it in his lap. Then before you knew it, he was hugging you, burying his face into the crook of your neck. “Thank you, Y/N. I love it.” You leaned your head on his kind of hugging him back without actually doing so, fearing letting go of the oars and said oars sinking into the depths of the lake that lay below, leaving you two stranded out on the lake’s surface never to be found again.
The rest of the day was spent, continuing the search for Oma. You ran through trees, surveyed the lake, searched the museum, watched the flower beds, strolled through the bird sanctuary. The whole time Shuichi clutched that book in his arms, not letting it go for anything. It seemed so sudden when the sun set. You and Shuichi were walking under the cover of trees. “You’re awfully smiley Shuichi.” “Ah, w-well… I did enjoy myself today. I just wish we could have found Akamatsu’s piano.” “It’s entirely possibly she found it while we were out here. I’ll check with her.” You whipped out your phone, quickly blipping about on it. It was then a rather lovely tune began to play. It was one Shuichi recognized. It was a piano piece Kaede had showed him once. A very upbeat and happy song. Though it was an older song, and the names of songs like that tended to be very… “Piano! Y/N, the piano!” “Hmm?” Absorbed by hearing the instrument, Shuichi missed the small smirk that tugged on your lips. “I hear it over there!” Shuichi dragged you along as he raced towards it. Not far in the distance he could see lights flickering on, and a small crowd of people forming near a fountain. As he drew closer and closer, he saw the grand piano and- “Kaede!? Wait- everyone!?” All his friends and classmates were there, Kaede happily tapping away on the keys of the piano. They all screamed variations of ‘happy birthday’ as you and he burst from the wooded path. “I knew something was suspicious! It was clear the piano was not forced from the room so only someone who had knowledge of pianos could dismantle it and take it from the room. And Hanamura having a meal prepared for us! And how you were so relaxed all day despite investigating! You had this all planned!” You looked to the group. “Almost. I had the idea of throwing you a party, but Kaede was supposed to text me when the preparations in the classroom were ready. And I didn’t know Oma was going to lead us here.” As she spoke, Kaede kept playing. “Well, you two so rarely go out on proper dates we thought we’d alter Y/N’s plan a little so you could have just that! A present from all of us, aside from the other presents we got you.”
The evening was spent opening gifts, then sharing food and laughs. Though the party was celebrating him, Shuichi wound up brewing and serving coffee, he found making conversation was much easier when doing so. Unfortunately, there was a mistake and Gonta got decaffeinated beans, so no one was able to stay up all night. Not that it mattered since the park was closing soon.
You ended up falling asleep on the train ride back to Hope’s Peak. Shuichi pulled you close, nervously planting a kiss atop your head before taking out a pencil and writing about his day in his adventure journal. He also wrote of a dream of future adventures, a hope of traveling around the world, helping you solve cases with his detective skills and brewing coffee to keep you going… as your husband.

PokeV3 AU – Boys!
Rantaro
Flying Type
His theme is loosely based on travel.
He got delibird because he canonly likes to bring back souvenirs. Mantyke was his first pokemon and hes been using it to travel around on the water. The rest he got just by traveling to different parts of the world.
Rantaro is a traveler for sure, but when he finally settles down I imagine he would become a pokemon breeder and he studies for that while traveling.
His family is different than canon so heres some info on them too:
His dad is like a green haired Saxton Hale. Used to adventure a lot but then settled and became a business man, and a surprisingly good one at that. He owns the poke center chain and a certain mansion where he let's people visit and battle the staff for fun. Absolutely loves the fact that his son is adventurous like he was and will pay for whatever he needs. Not worried about Rantaro because he turned out all right, so why wouldn't his son? Adventure runs in his veins haha! He's just a happy go lucky guy that really loves his kids and supports them.
His mom is VERY worried about Rantaro in stark contrast to her husband, and gets mad that her husband is so carefree about their own child. She waits impatiently for the day Rantaro finally settles down so she doesn't have to worry anymore. Very doting and cute!
His sisters arent lost, they're the poke center nurses!
Ryoma
Fighting Type
His theme is competition and teamwork!
Ryoma used to be one of the youngest people in the elite four until his pokemon got stolen by the antagonist team. He barely made it out alive, but lost his pokemon and hasn't been the same since.
Would only adventure if someone gave him hope that he could find them again. The adventure ends when he finds them all because he'll want to go back home and settle down now that he's finally got them back.
He wouldn't necessarily get back into the elite four after finding them because he's just not as enthusiastic as he used to be about fighting, but he would probably become someone that gives advice to young trainers around his town.
He used to be super famous when he was in the elite four, and everyone knew him for his competitive spirit and his good sportsmanship. Lots of people still remember him and wonder what happened to make him quit so suddenly.
While he's still missing his pokemon he would hate it when people would be like "omg weren't you in the elite four?!?!" but when he gets them back he just kinda cracks half a smile and chuckles, not really answering but also not saying no.
Korekiyo
Ghost Type
His theme is ancient culture to absolutely no one's surprise.
Frosslass was given to him by his sister. He found golett, yamask, and duskull in different archeological digs that he visited. Banette and misdreavus just took a liking to him, so they joined up with him. He's surprisingly really good with ghosts types? They just like him for some reason...
Korekiyo is an anthropologist like in canon.
His sister is alive but she's really frail after her health took a dramatic turn and has to stay home instead of exploring like she used to. She was super into ice type pokemon, but cant go catch them because her body can't handle the weather anymore.
Kork wants to show his sister the world she cant go out and see anymore and so he travels and brings back souvenirs and pictures for her. She's a little sad she can't go with him, but tries to keep her spirits up despite not being able to fulfill her dream and supports her little brother's dream instead. She's still getting used to the thought of not being able to adventure like she used to.
She was a kinda famous ice type trainer that was about to make it big before her health started failing.
Her health problem is hereditary and her mother died from it when Korekiyo was born because her body couldnt handle the illness and giving birth to Korekiyo at the same time. She won't die as long as she's careful, which includes not going into cold areas and not engaging in strenuous activity. Only the girls in the family get it, and no one really knows what it is.
They dont know where their dad went, but he left after their mother died because he couldn't stand the grief.
Gonta
Bug Type
Fun bug fact: he somehow managed to accidentally catch all the bug types people that freak people out (spider, centipede, wasp/bee hybrid, bugs with pinschers, the parasite one, etc). People have run away from battles with him before and he feels bad about it but cant figure out why they ran.
Gonta doesn't really battle so much as he goes looking for new bug type pokemon. Really enthusiastic about bug types and helps his professor by giving him all the field notes he writes.
Oddly doesn't seem to have any parents? The professor has basically adopted him at this point and they don't talk about it.
Kaito
Dragon Type
His theme is any pokemon he thinks is cool.
Kaito wants to be the champion and if he calls someone his sidekick it means he wants to have them be in his elite four.
He has a penchant for doing things he thinks other people would find cool. Probably has a fucking cape and sunglasses. Wants what Leon has so fucking badly but ends up looking like an egomaniac and a try hard on accident. Totally lies about his adventures to try and look cooler to people, but little does he know that no one ever believes him.
Hasn't actually traveled much despite what he may tell you, but you could get him to tag along as long as there are no ghost types involved. He's scared of them.
Hates cold weather.
Kokichi
Ghost Type
His theme was childish looking pokemon, but then they evolved so it's mischievous pokemon with cool and spooky lore
If the dex entry mentions anything about children, odds are he's caught it already. He's a magnet to those types of ghost pokemon for some reason.
The way he caught his drifloon was cuz it thought he was a little kid and tried to steal him lmao
Kokichi "haunts" (read: terrorizes the townsfolk of) whatever place he's at until he gets bored, then he goes to a new place and starts again. He's another one that oddly doesn't seem to have parents.
He gets excited by adventure and challenges, but I dont think he would leave his country unless he had people he really cares about ask him to go with them, and he'd only go because he doesn't want them to leave him. He'd eventually come around to the idea of traveling and really enjoy it, you just have to give him some time to adjust.
Kokichi in this AU gets really attached to places/things/people that leave an impression on him and doesn't wanna let them go kinda like how ghosts possess places and things and dont want to leave until they get exorcised or find closure. Luckily for Kokichi he "definitely doesn't" let himself get attached to things anymore. I wonder why...?
His tragic backstory is that he's always had an affinity to ghost types and that freaked everyone out so they basically cast him out when he was younger and he's lowkey traumatized by it. Was kinda raised by ghost types in an abandoned, haunted mansion after that because they liked him a lot. Raised in that place but eventually forced to leave because it was so decrepit that it finally collapsed.
Once he meets someone he likes who actually likes him too, he sticks to them like glue and doesn't let go. So much for not getting attached.
Scared of bug types.
Likes Falinks and Pawniard even though they're not ghost types.
Kiibo
Electric/Steel Types
Kiibo is human in this AU. He's a technology enthusiast and a huge fan of Miu's work.
Knows a lot about pokemon like Shuichi and would absolutely geek out with him, but his interest is mostly directed towards steel and electric pokemon rather than all of them, unlike Shuichi's interest in ALL pokemon.
Heir to his father's tech company and that's how he met Miu; she works for his dad. They're really good friends and have been for years.
Magearna has been passed down through his family.
Shuichi
Psychic Type
Shuichi is a pokemon fanatic and is probably in a pokemon fan club.
Studies all day about everything from type matchups to berries but gets overwhelmed and forgets everything he's learned until he really gets into the battle.
Not bad at battling when he's not overwhelmed.
He's good to have around because he's basically a walking wiki page.
He has a knack for finding pokemon and his life goal is probably to try and discover new species or types of pokemon.
His uncle is a detective and he still lives with him like in canon. He's tracks down lost pokemon more than anything though because those are the only cases he really enjoys working on. I imagine he would be like a lost pet/pokemon detective when he's older because that's his specialty.
Solved a big case involving the antagonist team when he was younger and wears a hat to hide his face so they don't recognize him and try to get revenge. Really, really hopes that it will eventually blow over.
He would be nervous about traveling very far, but looking on the bright side of things he gets a change in pace, some new experiences, a chance to avoid the antagonist team, and new friends. He would accept for those reasons, but he would only go with someone he trusts.
#PokeV3 AU#i changed the lore while writing this so im sorry if its not cohesive. i iust keep coming up with better ideas

Life of Kaede - Hope's Peak
Chapter 2: Hope's Peak Academy
Kaede woke up to her alarm, as her hair covered her eyes, which didn't really let her see that well.
'Ugh... Why should I wake up?...' Asked Kaede to herself before she remembered what day it was.
'Because I'm going to Hope's Peak!' Remembered Kaede to herself as she excitedly stood up and went to her closet.
She grabbed her uniform, a few music hairpins, and ran towards the shower. After she took one of the fastest showers to be seen by man, she ran downstairs as she saw that her mom had made her Pancakes.
"Hey, mom!" Said Kaede as she sat down and started eating. "Good morning, sweetie. How are you?" Asked her mom as she sat down with Kaede.
"I'm fine, thanks!" Said Kaede as she happily ate her Pancakes.
Everyone noticed however since Kaede got accepted in Hope's Peak, she started acting differently. She was way more optimistic and sociable. It was hard to believe that the Kaede they knew a few months ago was the same one that was excitedly humming a piano song as she finished her Orange juice.
"Tell Kagami I love her" said Kaede to her mom as she put on her white backpack. "I will" replied her mom as she gave Kaede a small smile.
Kaede smiled back, hugged her, and left running towards Hope's Peak.
As Kaede ran in front of a bunch of houses, she noticed how the more she ran, the more people with Hope's Peak uniform appeared.
That only made Kaede way more excited; which of those were going to be her friends? Who was she going to be the closest with?
Kaede couldn't wait for her bright new start, so when she was at the entrance of Hope's Peak she immediately took her school map out of her backpack.
'Class 79, hmm... it's on the second floor!' Thought Kaede as she found where her class was on the map. She then folded her map and ran towards the stairs. While she was jogging up the stairs, she felt how someone grabbed her arm and stopped her.
"No running in the halls, young miss!" Spoke a tall, black-haired guy with big eyebrows as he looked at Kaede as she turned around and gulped.
"Oh, I'm sorry, I was just... a little excited about coming in here." Said Kaede as she scratched the back of her neck as the guy left her hand go.
"It's fine, but don't make that mistake again!" Said the guy as he crossed her arms and looked at Kaede firmly.
"I won't! Also... what's your name?" Asked Kaede as the guy got surprised.
"I... I'm Kiyotaka Ishimaru, the ultimate Moral Compass! Or, uh, ultimate Hall Monitor. B-But you can call me Taka!" Said Kiyotaka as in the end, he stood in pride.
"Wow, that's so cool! I'm Kaede Akamatsu, the ultimate Pianist. Nice to meet you!" Said Kaede as she smiled and offered him her hand. The hall Monitor took her hand and both of them shook them.
"In what class are you?" Asked Kaede.
"I'm at class 78, and you?" Answered Tanaka as he stood still.
"Oh, I'm in class 79!" Answered Kaede as she scratched the back of her neck.
"Do you need help to get to your classroom? I took a digital tour of the school, and I've learned where everything is!" Asked Ishumaru as Kaede gave him a smile.
"Thanks, Taka! I would really appreciate that..." Answered Kaede as Ishimaru smiled.
"This way, Miss Akamatsu!"
----------------
"Thank you, Taka." Said Kaede as she stood in front of the door of her class. "No problem! That's my job as the ultimate Hall Monitor!" Spoke Taka in pride as Kaede giggled.
"Good luck on your first day!" Said Kaede before she waved at him and entered the classroom.
"You also have good luck!" Yelled the black-haired boy before walking towards his classroom.
When Kaede entered the classroom, she noticed how everyone was doing something. A tall girl with long, blonde hair was talking- or fighting? With a short, purple-haired boy. They were dangerously close to the window, which made Kaede didn't want to sit over there since it appeared that both of them sat on that side.
Kaede tried to ignore the fight since she didn't want to get in trouble. So, she simply chose a seat that was close to a wall, and she started organizing her stuff.
When she finished, she searched for someone to talk to. She actually wanted to be friends with everyone, so it wouldn't really matter who she talked to first. Then, she saw how a boy with a cap entered the classroom. That boy really caught Kaede's attention...
"Hey! What's your name?" Asked Kaede to the boy as he sat down on the front row.
"Oh, uh, hey. I-I'm Shuichi Saihara. And you?" Asked Saihara as Kaede smiled.
"I'm Kaede Akamatsu! Nice to meet you!" Answered Kaede as she noticed how Saihara's face looked surprised.
"Oh, are you okay?" Asked Kaede as the dark-haired boy came back to reality.
"Y-Yeah, sorry. It's because my aunt and uncle really like listening to y-your piano performances, and I didn't expect to see you i-in here." Said Shuichi as a small blushed drew over Kaede's cheeks.
"Wait- really? That's awesome! One of the reasons why I play the piano is to make people happy, so that really made my day!" Said Kaede as she smiled and started bouncing.
"Also, what's your ultimate?" Asked Kaede as Saihara hid his face with his hat.
"U-Ultimate detective... even though I think that title may be a lot for me..." Answered the shy boy as Kaede stood confused.
"Why would you say that? If they gave you that title, it must be for something" Said Kaede trying to cheer him up.
"I've only solved a few small cases, while there is another ultimate detective that has solved cases since she was 13. She is way more experienced than me, and I only got my title because of pure luck." Said Saihara as he looked down in shame.
"Come on, Saihara! You're still an ultimate! And if you could solve some cases, that's a sign that you're good at it! The other ultimate detective may be good, and that doesn't make you less! And if you just started, you're doing great, Saihara!" Declared Kaede as Saihara looked up at her in surprise.
Kaede didn't want anyone to feel how she felt before a few weeks ago. She didn't want people to feel that they were useless or not good enough, because she doubted that anyone liked that feeling.
"Thanks... Akamatsu. That meant a lot to me." Spoke the boy as a small blush painted his cheeks.
Then, the bell rang. Kaede waved to Shuichi and sat on her seat.
"Good morning, kids. My name is Kenji Saito, the ultimate Philosopher, and I'll be your homeroom teacher for this school year." Greeted the teacher as he gave us all a smile.
In the first hour of class, we introduced ourselves and said why our ultimate talents were unique.
"Hello! I'm Kaede Akamatsu, the ultimate pianist! My talent is unique because the piano music is special because it makes people feel different. It may make them feel like they are in heaven, or that they are in infinite despair. It really depends on what the pianist wants its audience to feel." Stated Kaede as she excitedly explained herself.
She noticed that a few students were surprised because of her energy, which made her smile. Kaede liked that people were seeing her as someone social, energetic, and happy.
"Nice meeting you, Miss Akamatsu." Spoke the teacher as the blonde smiled and walked back to her place.
When the class ended, Kaede waited for Saihara next to the door.
"Why are you waiting for me?" Asked the detective as Kaede giggled.
"Because I want to eat with you, duh." Answered Kaede as she smiled at him.
Shuichi sighed and simply left Kaede to hang out with him.
"So, what do you like to do in your free time, Saihara?" Asked Kaede as they walked to the Cafeteria. "Well, I guess that I like reading novels." Said Shuichi as his head was down.
"That's nice. Which genre do you like the most?" Asked Kaede as she organized her hair clips.
"I mostly like horror novels, but a romance one wouldn't be that bad..." Said Shuichi softly as he lifted up his hat a little. "What do you like to do, Akamatsu?" Asked Shuichi as Kaede turned her head to him. "I mean- I really like piano, I also like reading and joking with my sister" Spoke Kaede as a small smile showed on her face.
"You have a sister?" Asked the detective as Kaede nodded.
"Yeah, we are twins, actually. I'm the youngest one for a few seconds. We're really good friends and we both take care of each other..." said Kaede as she smiled and looked up to Shuichi.
Saihara just had a small smile on his face, and both of them continued walking to the cafeteria while talking about everything.

Shuichi Saihara and the Mystery of the Neverending Melody
Summary: Ever since he was a child, Shuichi has heard the same melody, an experience he didn't share with anybody. This is the story of how and when he found out why it was.
Fandom: Danganronpa V3 (AU) Ship: Saimatsu/Saiede/Saiaka/y’know the drill
Wordcount: 3.2K words
Notes: Once upon a time not too along ago, in a place not so far away... My giftee was (unknown to me, due to the rules of the exchange) @xoxorandomfangirl! Glad we could rejoice in some good ol’ Saimatsus. This is... a weird trip. It's a soulmate AU with a twist! God, the plot barely makes sense in this story, it's a disaster and a half haha. I hope both aren't too out of character, that'd be super embarrassing, especially with some of my ~veteran experience~. Anyway! As I expected, I had... more or less zero idea who this would be for, so I went wild and, as a result, this story is... weird and I guess kind of impersonal? I still hope you like it pal!
Written for the @saimatsugiftexchange
AO3 version available here.
--------------------------------
It first began when he was a little boy. After his parents (or, rather, their butler or maid) would have left his room, Shuichi would hear the serene notes of a piano in his now quiet room. He used to believe it was someone playing said instrument in a nearby room: after all, his mother owned a piano, a family heritage he had been told by the family’s most loyal butler, she could have very well been playing it, or asked someone else to do so for her husband or herself. Truth be told, Shuichi didn’t know much about his own house.
He never mentioned to his parents, or anyone for that matter. He was afraid of not getting believed. He had read somewhere before that, sometimes, you were just cursed to hear the same music over and over again for the remainder of your life until you’d find the one true way to break the curse and liberate your soul from going insane from the repetitiveness of it all and the loneliness it’d bring upon you. Again, Shuichi was but a little boy, and he was afraid of the curse too, more than he had ever been about the darkness of the night. Maybe that, if he ignored the song, it’d just go away… He figured he had grown out of believing such mythos, like the existence of the tooth fairy, of the soulmates his parents claimed to be in front of the cameras, and the curse of some piano music stalking him.
He wasn’t weirded out by the myths, despite how much he’d hear about them and the number of stories he’d end up collecting in his mind with time. When he was a child, his parents would buy him a lot of story-focused books with urban legends like these plastered all over the pages. He’d watch, like every kid his age, series and movies about sirens, fairies, werewolves, vampires, soulmates with specific birthmarks, mermaids and haunting music. They usually ended well, turning darker as he got older and got to watch more grotesque content. The happy siren marrying the sailor she had first enchanted had become a tragic, death-riddled version of itself.
Shuichi didn’t believe a lot of them, despite hearing the music. Someone at school once told him it was someone searching after him and, when they’d get close to him, he’d hear the music. While she thought it was his Princess Charming searching for her beloved, he only found it creepy to think about: it was essentially being followed around your entire life until someone, possibly with malicious intent, would find you. How was that supposed to be reassuring?
Speaking of the never-ending song, it got eerie when he’d start hearing it again when he was a teen. He had moved places entirely: to keep up with the demand for their services, his parents were mostly overseas, or at least far from home, and he had since moved in with his uncle Shinichi and the latter’s wife. Neither of them owned a piano, there was no such instrument in their house. If he let his soul get too carried away in its first instincts, he could almost feel the crescent-shaped mark on his chest itch.
Still, there was a rational explanation to that mysterious phenomenon, as there’s always been to various other enigmatic occurrences. When he absentmindedly mentioned this fact to his uncle and aunt, Auntie Ran mentioned that their neighbours had a son around Shuichi’s age who played the piano. It may have been this guy all along, so he shook the idea of being haunted or cursed away. There was always rationality to everything in life. There wasn’t anything to worry about…
…that was, until he’d start hearing the melody where there was no piano nor the possibility of someone playing it, and especially in times where he shouldn’t have heard it.
He figured he’d just play it in his mind to soothe his own soul when finding himself in dire situations. When he was very sick and seeing things that weren’t, when he was about to fall, only for something to retain his body before it’d break itself, when the car he was in almost got hit by another. The serene melody would always play, albeit quicker than before, and he’d feel better or get out of the situation safe and sound. It must have only been him but, deep down, a part of his sceptic mind was thankful for it…
A part of his brain couldn’t compute anymore when, on an urbex trip with his best friend, the serene music reached his ears. Around them, nothing but the rests of life that once was: they were in the middle of an abandoned hospital, torchlights in their bags, a camera in his hands. Kaito noticed something was bothering him, so he immediately popped the question to the latter, making Shuichi feel his cheeks burn with embarrassment. With how rational Kaito was despite his silly appearance, he’d surely never believe him. Still, he owed his friend the truth, so he went for it anyway. While Kaito didn’t outright laugh at his face, his eyebrows still twitched in disbelief. He then proposed the idea that there could have been a piano in the premise, just well hidden and, while that wouldn’t make too much sense, nothing was impossible in urbex. Someone could have brought their instrument with them, or put in a wireless speaker to play with the visitors. It wouldn’t have been his first time seeing that happen, at least.
In the end, there was no piano in the old hospital, nobody else but them, and they found no speaker, even with Kaito’s best efforts. They both decided to believe they just hadn’t seen it. It could have been hidden in some rubble, after all, leaving shortly thereafter.
Little did they know that, by trying to follow the music, they had avoided an unfortunate encounter with a murderer hiding behind the rubble of what had once been.
Still, the phenomenon kept on. It didn’t scare him in the slightest when he was staying over at his uncle’s, finding himself get soothed by the serene notes played by his neighbour. It didn’t scare him when he was sleeping over at Kaito’s grandparents’ place. In fact, he wasn’t scared of it whenever he was with someone else, because, even if they didn’t know what he was talking about and didn’t hear the music, they helped him rationalize it. He must have had a sensible hearing, like his mother apparently was. She’d sing for her own scenes; he must have inherited something from her except for his long eyelashes and slender figure.
The melody would actually change every time he heard it. It’d be subtle differences he’d notice more and more: an octave higher, an octave lower. It must have been him, but it’d differ depending on his mood. If he was sad, he’d hear solemn, yet optimistic notes. If he was trying to focus, it’d subdue and become background noise. If he was happy, it’d hear triumphant sounds. If he was embarrassed, the air would be comical and he’d feel easier, encouraged to take it easy. Hiding in some bathroom stall had never felt this comfortable.
Now, the issue rose its head when he also realized he was always the only one to hear it in the unlikeliest place. The moment he realized that fact turned his entire life upside down: he was all alone in one of his family’s secondary residences, enjoying some time separated from the rest of the world during the holidays, without a butler nor a maid. Just him, all on his own, with the sound of his footsteps echoing through the empty corridors. For how weird it seemed to literally anyone around him, Shuichi took great pleasure in some voluntary solitude. Someone like him just needed moments where he could cool down from how heavy socialization could get.
Alas, he wasn’t all alone in this villa: the piano was playing. Haunted and anxious at the idea that a burglar could have step foot there, Shuichi braced himself and started making his way to the music room of the house, just to make sure it was just all in his mind again. He let himself get guided by the notes: the louder the calm symphony was, the closer he felt to the source. For a burglar, they sure were a gentleman to only play the piano instead of robbing the place out of its fairly pricey electronics and other luxurious expenses. His parents weren’t materialistic people to begin with anyway.
Bracing himself one last time, he breathed in and out, and proceeded to open the door to the music room. The notes were at their loudest yet remained eerily peaceful, undisturbed. Time to see what the face of his musician, impromptu visitor was…
Shuichi’s jaw almost dropped to the floor when his eyes laid upon the piano. It suddenly felt like a fever dream.
On the bench in front of the keyboard sat a blonde girl around his age, fingers moving almost on their own as she closed her eyes, too much into her music piece to notice someone entering the room, he quickly guessed. She wasn’t dressed any oddly by any normal means, albeit very formally for a robber: a mauve dress reaching to her ankles, only leaving her ankles bare, with a trail sitting diligently at her feet, with matching gloves covering most of her arms. Even her hair seemed nowhere near ready for quick action and housebreak: it was a fancy hairdo, with strands all over her back and shoulders. Her profile was, you could say, divine.
Now, how she had gotten herself there was a complete enigma to Shuichi. Even his uncle would have a ton of troubles trying to decipher what in the flying disorder was happening before his eyes. A girl his age had somehow broken into a high-security house dressed for a ball… only to play the piano and leave everything else intact in her stead. Surely he had to be hallucinating it all, stuck in a fever dream and barely realizing it. It was unreal to say the least.
Eventually, the piece ended, and the girl opened her eyes, revealing pink irises glancing right into his. God, she was beautiful in all the meanings of the physical team, but seriously, what the hell? Who was this woman, what was she doing there, playing the piano? How and why? She couldn’t have possibly been the cause of all the music he had lonelily heard all of his life, could she?
Ah,” she spoke up before he could even phrase a single thing in a coherent sentence, “I see that you have found me at last. I’ve lost our little game of hide-and-seek!”
Okay, now that was getting a tad creepy and way too cryptic for his liking.
“Who… Who are you?!”
Shuichi didn’t want to scream that like some angry drunk guy stumbling upon his own imagination, especially when the empty halls and rooms resonated this badly; yet his voice decided to do so anyway. Sometimes, his body could ask for his consent, but apparently it didn’t want to know anything about his desires. He’d have dwelled more on it if he wasn’t staring right at a girl playing on his mother’s piano with a slight smile and shimmering eyes.
“Well, I kind of expected you to ask me that first-hand. My name is Kaede. It’s a pleasure to meet you at last, Shuichi!”
Okay, what the fuck. How did she know his given name? What in the hell was that evasive response? And she still hadn’t only replied to most of his interrogations! Was she making fun of him, on top of stalking him with piano music of all things? He didn’t know how to phrase anything without sounding like a future murderer or a maniac.
Still, “Kaede” quickly noticed he wasn’t convinced by just having her name. She simply hummed and resumed the conversation (if conversation this weird situation even was).
“I’m certain you won’t believe me, but we’re soulmates! Have you never heard the myth of hearing music everywhere you went until you’d meet your one true person? It doesn’t even have to be about love!”
“…you’re kidding me, right?”
She didn’t seem quite that happy with being questioned, instead shrugging with a slightly displeased expression. She ought to have had a knife hidden under her dress.
“Why would I joke about that? I’ve waited seventeen years to meet you!”
She rose from the bench, hair and trail flowing behind her, floating in the air like wind blew in the room. He had to admit it: she was absolutely stunning and, frankly, didn’t seem too mean aside from being… weirdly playing the piano in an empty house.
“Hold up”, he still said, rising a hand. “How did you break in? Why aren’t you, I don’t know, stealing anything?”
“Why would I steal anything? I’m not here for items, I’m here for you!”
“Still, how did you make your way here?”
Kaede seemed bothered by his question, looking aside with an awkward smile.
“Weeeeell… It’ll sound unbelievable, but I can go through walls when I want!”
“…you really got to be kidding me.”
As if to prove her point, she walked past him and, indeed, made her arm go through the wall behind his back. He felt a shiver go down his spine with a cold sweat.
“O-okay… And how do you do that…?”
He may have been terrified to see such a display without a proper forewarning.
“I’m a goddess!”
How far could this girl push his willing suspension of disbelief?
“Gods aren’t real, no? That’s old mythological stuff.”
“Yet you have one right in front of you!”
He supposed she could go through the walls and play the piano wherever he went…
“Wait, that means you’ve known me since I was a little boy, right?”
That had the most unfortunate implications ever.
“I… actually never saw you until now.”
The situation kept growing weirder and weirder.
“Wait, what?! How do you know I’m “the one”, then?!”
She pulled down the right side of her dress, revealing a part of her breast and, most importantly, a crescent-shaped birthmark. With her other hand, she pointed exactly where his was, on his right.
“…so, all along, all those legends were true? God, I must be dreaming all this.”
Kaede looked annoyed.
“I thought you’d be happier than that to know you’re linked to a goddess in such a way!”
Only then did it hit him.
“Wait. You’re the one who was playing this song I’d always hear, right?”
“Yeah. That was me trying to locate you, but most of the time, you’d be in trouble…”
“So, in short, you’re also the one who saved me when I was in harm’s way.”
“I tried my best back there! I couldn’t lose you before we’d meet, right? That’d have been anticlimactic!”
It felt like being revealed the truth after a lifetime of lies and he, honestly, didn’t know how to handle it, or even if he could. That must have been when he felt her soft, warm touch around his body.
“Hey, are you okay?!” She asked, frantic, as she carried him like a firefighter around, until she found the nearest bedroom to put him on the bed.
Words had escaped his mouth, head spinning in dizziness.
“I suppose that’s a lot to take in…”
She picked a chair and sat on it, right next to it, her fingers hovering over one of his hands.
“I… I don’t know what to say…!” Shuichi laughed, still half in disbelief. “That stuff’s just insane!”
“I can only imagine so.”
He took a deep breath and tried calming himself, if not just to stabilize his swimming field of vision for a moment.
“So… You’re some kind of goddess, right?”
“Yeah! I’m a deity of music! My father is the god of harmony and my mother is the goddess of technique and precision. My twin sister is the goddess of the harp!”
Okay. That made… some coherence, at least. It wasn’t entirely hazardous pull after hazardous pull.
“But, like, does that mean you were in love with me since I was born?”
“I didn’t know who you were for real until today! I just knew your name, where you were and things like that, but I couldn’t see your face until you’d see mine first. It’s the thing with being a goddess with a mortal soulmate…”
She seemed saddened by that fact.
“That’s a thing that happens, sometimes?”
“We deities have a few different soulmates in our lifetime. Sometimes, our bond to them is so strong the mortal get to ascend, but it happens very rarely. You’re my first soulmate, though! I’m a very young goddess by our standards!”
“You’ve waited for me for seventeen years, right?”
“Yeah! I hoped you were a good guy, and I’m not disappointed. I’m sorry if I’ve scared you with my attempts at finding you.”
“It’s… it’s fine. Now I know it’s not a stalker with malicious intentions, at least…”
Kaede put one of her hand on his. It was only now that he was noticing she had somehow changed into something much more comfortable-looking: a pink toga-like dress with an untied hairdo. He supposed that was part of her powers…
“If you don’t want me around, I can always go back to where I come from. But, if I’m to be honest, I’d rather discover the mortal world with you.”
“N-no, not at all, you don’t bother me!” (Now that he was getting over his emotions, he realized she seemed like a nice sport all around. He could get used to her magical shenanigans later down the line). “I just have a question to ask.”
“Yeah?”
“Can you take a human form? I don’t want to introduce you to Kaito as my invisible friend who can go through walls…”
Her expression, which had been serious and determined until that point, broke into a laugh.
“I like that title, though! Anyway, yeah, I can take human shape and pretend to be a mortal. I’ll just have to use a bit of my goddess magic to give me some officialness.”
“And you don’t mind that?”
She shook her head. “Nuh-huh!”
“That’s good…”
Shuichi felt a wave of fatigue suddenly washing over him before yawning. That was a lot of emotions…
“It’s getting late,” Kaede noted as she looked outside, the pale moon lighting the otherwise pitch-black bedroom. “I guess you want to sleep.”
“Wouldn’t be against it for sure… But I think you have a lot to tell me.”
“Oh, it’s no problem! I’ll be back in the morning then, when you’ll be all rested up! Goodnight, Shuichi.”
“Goodnight…”
He fell asleep before her fingers had even left his, still dressed for the day. Maybe that it was all just a dream, an absurd dream of absurd proportions. For now, it was a soothing experience, so he figured he may as well enjoy what was left of it until he’d wake up…
When he woke up, it was to the smell of breakfast and the sight of a now-familiar smiling face with blond strands of hair cupping her cheeks.

See You on the Other Side (5/5)
Final part of my Saiouma Day one-shot! I almost thought I wasn’t going to have this finished in time, but here we are! It’s been a wild few days XD
Thank you guys for the support and I hope you enjoy this last part!
Title: See You on the Other Side
Summary: The world works as such: everyone has a soulmate that they must find before either one of them dies. If one of them dies, the other person will become stuck in a loop, starting from a specific moment in time. However, the soulmate indicator changes each time and gradually becomes harder to recognize. This will continue until they find their soulmate.
Today is the day. Shuichi Saihara was finally going to meet his soulmate. Reading the letter that he had received from the soulmate bureau, he goes to the park near his favorite coffee shop after dining with his friends and waits for his soulmate to finally arrive...
Soulmate Indicator: On the day you are to meet your soulmate, the soulmate bureau sends you a letter outlining how you will meet them along with other information such as the location, the time, what your soulmate will be wearing, and other information. Usually, you get notified a week in advance that you will be meeting your soulmate before the meeting details are sent to you the day of.
Notes: This is a mashup of both soulmate and time loop AUs; there are many rules that are put into place in this particular universe; some parts will be longer than others due to how much content needs to be covered (particularly Loop #4);
Warnings: None~

Shuichi woke up that morning to the sun peeking through the curtains and the realization of what today was.
He leapt out of bed, a wide grin spread across his lips as he got ready for the day and dashed downstairs.
“Well, someone seems to be in a hurry.” an elderly male spoke from in the kitchen.
Shuichi smiled.
“Good morning, Uncle.” he said.
“Good morning to you too, Shuichi.” his uncle flipped some bacon that was sizzling away in a skillet. “I think I know what you’re looking for. It’s sitting on the table in the dining room.” he said.
“Alright!” Shuichi chirped excitedly in response as he headed into the dining room.
He grabbed for the white envelope sitting atop the table and briefly scanned the front, seeing that it was his letter from the soulmate bureau.
“Uncle! Where do you have your mail opener?” he called out.
“In my office!” his uncle responded.
Shuichi dashed into his uncle’s office, immediately spotting the mail opener sitting in the pencil holder on his desk. He picked up the mail opener and opened the envelope in one clean swipe.
Putting the mail opener down, he took the letter out from the envelope. He unfolded it and began to read its contents.
To Mister Shuichi Saihara,
Today, on March 10, 20XX, you will be meeting your soulmate. You will be meeting them at the Kugimiya Park close to the White Lily Coffee Shop at 4:45pm. Your soulmate will be wearing a white shirt, a black leather jacket, dark denim skinny jeans, checkered Vans, and a checkered scarf.
As it gets closer to the time you guys are to meet, you will begin to feel a pulling sensation. When you feel it, please do not panic, as this is completely normal. It just means that your soulmate is getting closer to you.
We wish you all the very best with meeting your soulmate.
Best wishes,
The International Soulmate Bureau
Shuichi began to buzz with excitement.
It’s time. I finally get to meet them, he thought to himself.
He headed out of the office and into the dining room as his uncle began to set the table.
“Did you read it?” his uncle asked.
“I did.” Shuichi sat down and began dishing food onto his plate. “The meeting place is at a park across the street from my favorite coffee shop.” he explained.
“Is that so?”
“Yeah. I’m actually going to the coffee shop with a couple of my friends after class.”
“Well, that works out perfectly for you, now doesn’t it?”
“It does.”
His uncle chuckled.
“You know, Shuichi, meeting your soulmate for the first time is an extraordinary experience. I remember when I first met your aunt, I was just as excited as you are right now. Exchanging words for the first time, hugging each other, being able to spot them and just know that that’s them...it truly is a magical experience.” he explained.
Shuichi smiled.
“Yeah, I can imagine.”
💜💜💜💜
“Well, it’s about damn time you get to meet your soulmate!” Kaito hollered.
Shuichi laughed nervously.
“I told you already that I got a letter about it from the bureau a week ago, though...” he trailed off.
“You should be accustomed to this by now. He’s a forgetful dimwit.” Maki pointed out.
“Indeed! And don’t you—wait a minute, forgetful dimwit?!” Kaito exclaimed.
“You know it.” Maki replied as she began to stir her tea.
Kaede looked over at Shuichi, excitement dancing around in her eyes.
“So? Let’s see it! Let’s see the letter!” she said.
“Alright, alright. Let me just get it out of my bag...” Shuichi murmured as he reached for his school bag.
He took out the letter and he handed it to Kaede. She scanned the letter, her eyes darting back and forth.
“Wait, you’re meeting your soulmate at Kugimiya Park?!” Kaede looked out the window. “That’s literally right across the street!” she exclaimed.
“Huh.” Maki commented as Kaede handed her the letter.
“So? What’s your soulmate’s name?” Kaito asked.
“I don’t know. The bureau never said what their name was.” Shuichi replied.
“Huh?! Are you for real?!” Kaito snatched the letter out of Maki’s hand and he looked it over. “Holy shit, you’re right...” he trailed off.
“That’s odd. Your soulmate’s name should be on there.” Maki stated.
“Yeah, what Maki Roll said! Everyone has had their soulmate’s name in their letter when they received it! That’s how I knew Maki Roll was going to be my soulmate, after all.” Kaito declared.
Maki pouted, reaching up to play with her ponytail.
“Whatever...” she mumbled, a light blush coloring her cheeks red.
Shuichi looked at his friends before shrugging.
“Eh, it’s fine. I have a feeling as to who it might be, anyway.” he said.
“Huh?! You do?!” Kaito gawked at him. “Have you happened to meet your soulmate before now?!” he asked.
“Of course he wouldn’t have. The first time you meet your soulmate is the day the soulmate bureau sends you the info on how you meet them. There’s no way he could’ve met his soulmate already or else the bond would’ve been completed by now, you moron.” Maki stared bluntly.
“Moron—?!” Kaito’s jaw went slack as he looked at Maki, who silently took a sip of her tea.
They began to chat about various other things as Shuichi stared out the window, gazing at the park with a dreamy look on his face.
💜💜💜💜
Shuichi sat at a bench in the park, listening to the birds chirping from within nearby trees and letting the cool breeze blow through his hair.
He looked back down at his letter as he began to think over some things.
It still felt weird to be reincarnated into another timeline. Even as he was reincarnated, he still had the same name and remembered everything from the previous loops.
It took him a little while to get used to seeing Kaede and the others alive and well. He was so used to seeing Kaede being executed by Monobear and the looks of terror and worry that crossed both Maki and Kaito’s faces that it threw him off-guard to see them happy and simply enjoying life without having to worry about the killing game or that psychotic bear.
But, he kept those feelings buried deep within him and tried to embrace his new life. Everything was complete.
Except for one thing: meeting his soulmate.
He folded the letter and put it back in his school bag as he felt a light tugging sensation.
Hm? This feeling...is this what the letter was talking about, he asked himself.
The feeling grew stronger with each passing moment. He looked down at his watch, checking the time.
It’s time, he thought to himself.
He rose his head and he locked eyes with a figure that began to make its way over to him. His eyes widened, heart leaping with joy as he observed the person.
The wispy, dark purple hair.
The pale skin resembling that of a porcelain doll.
The plush pink lips.
The purple eyes that sparkled like stars in the night sky.
Immediately, Shuichi recalled everything from the killing game and the loops. He remembered feeling a connection to that person, the interactions they had, and the many times he let that person slip out of his grasp.
The person smiled upon seeing him and immediately, tears sprung up in his eyes.
He stood, a smile touching his lips as he extended his arms out. He watched as the person ran towards him, tears filling up in their eyes.
“Shuichi!”
The person fell into his arms soon after. Shuichi whirled them around, hugging them tightly. He buried his nose in their hair, the smell of grape shampoo filling his nostrils.
“Kokichi...” he choked out as tears spilled down his cheeks.
He gripped Kokichi tightly, fearing that if he let go, the former supreme leader would vanish into thin air.
Kokichi hugged him back just as tight as he spoke.
“I told you that I’d see you on the other side...” he muttered out.
Shuichi chuckled.
“I never doubted you for a second, Kokichi.” he said.
They pulled away from the hug as Shuichi cupped his cheeks. He watched as Kokichi began to cry, tears streaming down his cheeks.
“I’m so happy...after all of the struggling we went through, we can finally be together...” he choked out.
“I know.” Shuichi replied.
Kokichi reached up to cup Shuichi’s cheeks as well, wiping away his tears before pulling him close. Their foreheads and noses were pressed against one as he looked up at him.
“I love you. I love you so, so much.” he whispered.
“I love you too, Kokichi.” Shuichi whispered back.
Kokichi giggled as Shuichi closed the distance between them, immediately melting into the kiss.
Kokichi kissed back as Shuichi let the world melt away, feeling himself being transported to a fantasy world where only him and Kokichi existed.
With this, everything felt right.
They didn’t have to worry about time loops nor the killing game.
They could be together without having to worry about Kokichi dying anytime soon.
They could be happy and live out the rest of their days with one another.
Shuichi could be with Kokichi.
And that made him the happiest person in the world.

hi! hope your days gone well
Shuichi Saihara
Oh god you were so cute someone help this flustered bi boy
Honestly he doesn’t do much for winter, he just keeps inside and bundles himself up with blankets
But since dating you, he’s been dragged outside every chance you get
And honestly he’s grown to like the cold
(Though you teaching how to ski was not the funnest.. He was just worried is all!)
(And oh god let’s not even talk about ice climbing)
And when Christmas comes along of course he gets dragged for the ride
He didn’t use to celebrate it much before, since it was only him and his uncle
But after Hope’s Peak and dating you he, well he starts taking the holiday more seriously
(Then again he kind of has to since you’re such a huge lover of Christmas)
He practically gets forced to watch every Christmas movie and learns how to make gingerbread cookies
Though he doesn’t mind, honestly it’s rather cute to see you so fired up
If you get him a homemade sweater or jacket he will melt
Kokichi Ouma
He’s always stealing your coats, like always
Your coats are just more comfy after all!
Kokichi is already a huge Christmas fan so with the two of you combined you practically force the whole class into the holiday spirits
(Mistletoe and tacky Christmas sweaters everywhere)
He does make a face whenever you make him try traditional Eskimo dishes
(Seriously blubber?? Eww!!)
As soon as snow hits, prepare for snowball fights
(Literally Kokichi will do a snowball fight anytime and anywhere)
He thinks it’s fun to wind you up by sending you screenshots of people who think climate change isn’t real
Your ranting is so hilarious to him!!
But while Winter is fun he likes watching you suffer during summer
Poor you can’t handle the summer heat and often try to keep shut in with the ac and a couple of fans running
And while he still drags you out he understands if it gets too hot for you to handle
(He still wants to go to the beach with you though, even if you have to carry like four mini fans to keep yourself cool)
Rantaro Amami
Honestly this a man willing to try anything once
He doesn’t mind trying some weird traditional food, hell the fact that you would take the time to make him something makes him want to try it
And what do you know he ends up really enjoying some of it
He already knows how to ski and ice climb, and you two often go out to do these activities together
Sometimes it becomes a competition like who can ski to the bottom faster
Whenever Christmas comes around you two throw a huge party at his place (which is like a mansion)
I’m talking a huge Christmas tree, homemade dinner spread, decorations everywhere, the whole nine yards
If you ever need to travel you know he’s going to be right by your side (he loves traveling after all)
He happily listens to you babble about well anything really
You just look so cute when you’re really serious about something
Gonta Gokuhara
Gonta finds you adorable!
It’s like you’re in a little cocoon with all of the coats you wear!
While Gonta has never skied or ice climbed before he’s willing to try!
(Turns out he’s good at climbing… skiing on the other hand was pretty much a disaster)
He can have a surprisingly long conversation with you about climatology
(Hey he already knows what climates are good for bugs and things like that)
When you find out he’s never celebrated Christmas before, oh god it’s chaos
You’re showing him every Christmas tradition there is and he loves it
His favorite Christmas movie ends up being the Muppet’s Christmas Carol
(And it becomes a tradition to have a movie marathon every Christmas from now on)
(Also.. you know Gonta would get presents for all of his bug friends)
If you find a Christmas sweater that could fit him he would almost never take it off
(He will literally cry if he accidentally tears it or something)
Ryoma Hoshi
He doesn’t really get how you could wear all of those layers and not get overheated but hey you do you
While he doesn’t ski, he is a terror during snowball fights
(Like seriously he could nail anyone with a snowball, only you are safe from his skills)
Isn’t really a Christmas fan but hey if it makes you happy
(He isn’t dressing as a Christmas elf though, no matter how much you beg him)
He does wear a santa hat instead of his usual beanie(?) during the holidays though
(But don’t expect him to wear a Christmas sweater)
He doesn’t mind helping you cook some of your country’s traditional food from time to time
He isn’t one to turn away from a home cooked meal after all, no matter how strange it could be
Though if you ever invite him to visit your home.. He’s going have to be bundled up in at least a dozen coats
He gets cold rather easily due to his small size after all
Kiibo
You can’t tell me Kiibo doesn’t love Christmas
Like he is wearing cheesy Christmas sweaters during the whole month of December and you eagerly follow his lead
(Though if you or anyone else tie a mistletoe to his ahoge he will crash)
He doesn’t feel cold in the first place and can’t really do most winter sports
(He’s too heavy for skiing or ice skating and not strong enough for ice climbing)
But he’s happy just to watch you have fun!
And you two could always build snowmen together or just walk around in the snow!
He’s really curious to hear about your traditions and how your people lived
Humans were really adaptable to live out in a constantly frozen environment!
While he can’t eat food.. He likes watching you make it!
(Though he does internally sulk that he can’t try it)
He doesn’t quite understand why you struggle so much during summer but he does get a fan application installed to help you out!
Korekiyo Shinguji
He loves hearing you talk about your culture and traditions
It makes his eyes light up to hear your point of view on many things
He also loves trying your traditional dishes, it’s so fascinating after all to see what a culture considers food that others may not
He makes sure to pay back the favor by making you some traditional Japanese dishes as well
While he can’t skii, he’s a surprisingly good ice skater
He would love to visit your hometown, though expect him to try and talk to everyone he meets about their thoughts and views on life
(You can’t judge a culture from just one person after all)
He understands and has read about Christmas traditions but he hasn’t really done much during Christmas
Though once he realizes how big it is to you, he will happily play along
However he would much rather to celebrate Christmas with only you then having a big party
Kaito Momota
Kaito is the kind of guy who tries to wear shorts during winter
(You literally have to for him to put on an actually winter jacket)
He loves playing out in the snow though and will constantly drag you outside to play in the snow
Another big Christmas fan here
Like he would love to go out and chop down his own Christmas tree with you and spend weeks decorating your place
Honestly he isn’t the best at cooking or baking though.. So he’ll leave that to you!
(Watch out he might try to steal some cookie dough)
While he can’t ski.. He can snowboard!
Prepare for tons of races
While he’s a bit weirded out by some of your cooking.. He’s willing to try it at least once!
After all he’s the Luminary of the Stars!! He wouldn’t shy away from some weird food!!

then over quartzer plays and im starting to feel a little lost because i don’t get to hear about the episode according to woz’s book? hello??
yuko’s still out gettin her spa treatments and shit, god only knows how she got the money for all that, and somehow she never crosses paths with the cops or anyone who recognizes her from the news?? uh
honestly yeah?? a queen deserves to look GOOD. her theme music is eerily sexy, i need an mp3 of it right now
don’t get me wrong, im well aware that swartz is being a suck-up to try and get yuko to help with his plan to seize ginga’s power, but damn im kinda shipping swartz with yuko now too...i mean, he WAS looking at her while doing the sexy ice cream thing last week. what flavor ice cream would yuko be? black cherry chip maybe?
(headcanon: woz tries apple pie ice cream and declares it a crime against both apple pie and ice cream alike--but he still eats the whole coneful)
hora and uhr get ZA WARUDO’D down the stairs by swartz
we were all uhr right here
yeaaaaaah she just doesn’t want to fight ginga
tsukuyomi’s a mood. someone put a band-aid on geiz’s forehead pls
ok woz i get that if you’re looking for a despotic ruler to follow that yuko is likely a better bet than sougo, but you’re missing an important detail: if yuko actually had a shot at becoming queen of everything, she’d already have one of you in tow, and you would most likely hate each other.
...majou means “demon queen” in this case, not “witch”, right?
aaaaaand this...is the moment when yuko started making me very uncomfortable. the way she responds: “yes...i do remember. it’s you.”
and sougo’s face just lights up--my guy, she could so easily be lying. she didn’t say one thing about the band-aid or the playground or anything that’d indicate she’s actually sougo’s crush.
like...if not for the fact that sougo had such a crush on the seifuku girl, it wouldn’t be all that major a memory. it likely wasn’t for the girl in question--just a happy sunny day cheering up a lonely little boy. a beautiful memory, yes...but memories fade.
can someone please explain to me why woz’s characterization is all over the place in kiva arc? are you pro-yuko or anti-yuko, woz? i don’t understand what’s going through his pretty head at all honestly. he gets pretty taciturn in the scenes he’s not inhaling pie, but then at times he seems to think yuko’s cool aaaaaagh i don’t know
junichiro: meowing, just wanted an excuse to cook lots of food
sougo: “yay, uncle’s cooking!”
woz: [deadpan monotone] “yaaaaaaay uncle’s cooking...”
ive had enough of this evil bitch honestly but when she points it’s still Good Shit
ridiculous move name, but also an awesome move name
and turning to stone to heal up while the sun’s clouded over? very cool
denied
i noped so hard at this part. like...i really do feel protective of sougo. yuko doesn’t give a damn about him, she just doesn’t want him to get in her way.
nope. no. nuh uh. you two step away from each other right now.
YOU CANNOT MAKE BABIES WITH AN IDIOT FETUS
ok but in all seriousness, do you want time jackers? because, im calling it now, letting oma zi-o go in raw is how you get time jackers.
yeah im pretty sure miho would’ve kept at it if she’d lived, and yuko...shes not gonna listen to sougo
thank you for the much needed reality check furry man
so she’s a...fu-joshi? 👀
☝☝☝
yuko wears such fabulous shoes
was anyone surprised at this point that yuko was the real killer? i sure wasn’t. not after all the obvious lies.
i love her leitmotif. i need it. where do i download
SHE DIDN’T PROMISE SHIT
hey kids! it’s time for *mashes play button* la-la-la lies! yeah, tell me that you love me! la-la-la-lies! look deep into my eyes! la-la-la-lies! say there’s no one else above me! i’m the king of fools, cuz baby, you’re the queen of actually very hurtful and manipulative lies!
that’s such bullshit
now im the last person to be like “don’t play the dead mommy card”--i practically keep that card in the hello kitty wallet my dead mommy gave me. but i bet you yuko’s mom is just fine (aside from living with the trauma of knowing her daughter’s a murderer and pathological liar).
sougo,,,,,pls
thank you tsukuyomi. god sougo really needs a chaperone with yuko around, he’s way too dumb and thirsty.
GUESS WHO’S BACK. BACK AGAIN. fortunately, it seems swartz and woz have been just standing there watching him for the duration of the rain shower.
lest we forget (because i didn’t screencap it), when zi-o took the brunt of ginga’s attack earlier, it sent him flying. now, that’s a human body, which has some ability to absorb force because it’s mostly pretty soft and fluid. yuko’s manhole cover almost completely absorbed this blast--she barely shifted her weight on impact. is it just that she’s THAT ripped?
then The Boys rider kick ginga to oblivion. rip ginga, you didn’t have a personality or a character arc, we never even saw you un-transformed--you were just a cool looking plot device with pretty attacks. but for that much, we appreciate you!
swartz looks so pleased with himself. he must not have watched the preview for this episode.
YOINK! gotta love how swartz doesn’t look surprised so much as puzzled.
sure am glad kurowoz took his other self’s advice and kept an eye on swartz
i love it so much how woz just has these magic scarf powers and it needs no explanation? hell, he can fly and time travel and make people fall asleep and he’s super strong too, with no explanation? and he’s the comic relief? ALSO HE’S REALLY HOT? woz is a being to behold honestly
speaking of super strong and really hot, yuko is KILLING IT in that gown. i mean...i guess that’s the intention. killing it. cuz she’s a homicidal maniac. haha.
she’s so good at pointing. yuko could be a prosecutor in shuichi kitaoka: ace attorney. (FUND IT)
yuko throws her manhole cover at the boys (rude!) and next we see geiz holding it. a shame we don’t get to see him snatch it out of midair. or did woz catch it and just hand it to him? we may never know.
zi-o. listen to geiz, zi-o. use the fucking watch. just use the watch, zi-o. you seriously plan on just letting another kiva go on a killing spree? do you not get by now what she’s capable of?
thank goodness zi-o has his retainers to make wise decisions so he doesn’t have to.
please note the placement of mars on ginga woz’s suit. very important.
I Love You
lmao
WHERE IS YOUR MANHOLE COVER NOW
my favorite character gets a beautiful rainbow final attack. i feel so blessed.
i mean...protecting all mankind would probably include protecting them from people like yuko. just sayin.
is it bad of me that my immediate thought right then was “at least woz’s attack wasn’t what did her in.”
this shot, especially in the context of the church, definitely gave me pieta vibes--albeit reversed somewhat.
weirdly enough, woz does an outro instead of an intro this episode.
at this point while watching, i said to shylax “you know what this calls for? pie!” but before i could finish--
--PIE! cmon sougo, it’s time to gobble up your feelings!
fucking woz, i swear, you have pie in your mouth and pie in your right hand and pie on your FACE and when your overlord expresses how miserable he is you just go for his uneaten pie with your empty hand.
...is it normal to eat pie like this in japan? because the only times i’ve seen americans make this much of a mess eating pie is when they’re toddlers.
oh hey, what do you know? looks like sougo’s first love wasn’t a violent crazy person after all. she also wasn’t yuko.
sougo’s just an idiot who will mistake any older woman who rubs him on the chin and calls him cute for his sailor girl.
previews!
i blame joshua kiryu
how eloquently this one line sums up not only kamen rider zi-o but kamen rider decade as well. that’s it, that’s the show. that’s the clusterfuck we will inevitably get whenever toei decides to make a kamen rider crossover.
LOOK AT THIS! TSUKUYOMI REMEMBERED SOMETHING! who is she smiling at? is it her dad? is that swartz behind her?! omg baby tsukuyomi is so CUTE!
“a team”. uh huh. is that what the youth are calling it these days? cuz when i was a wee lass, i believe they called it “fucking”.
so what have we learned this week?
very little about ginga
sougo does not remember faces all that well
before sougo dates ANYONE that person should be fully vetted by junichiro, geiz, tsukuyomi, and woz because CLEARLY HE CANNOT SAFELY CHOOSE A PARTNER FOR HIMSELF
i still really like yuko as a character, if not as a person. same as i enjoy junji ito manga, but would be very upset if most of it happened in real life.
swartz loves a woman who can kick his ass
what the fuck are manhole covers in this world
i can’t wait for baby tsukuyomi flashbacks! that, and more tsukasa.

Trial 6 - Flashfiction (4)
FLIP THAT CHESSBOARD, SWEETCHEEKS!
Trial: 1 / 2 / 3
it’s what kokichi would have wanted
DRV3 HOW DARE YOU HOLD OUT ON THE CUTEST DAMN TSUMUGI SPRITE OF THE ENTIRE GAME
how can mirrors be real if our eyes aren’t real
And we found it in Kokichi’s lab of all places. Why? Had he been able to get access to it ater all? Why was it just lying there so awkwardly - not hidden or neatly put away at all, but just tossed on the floor like an afterthought?
...... thinks about the state of Kokichi’s dorm room
yeah the chance that he left it on the floor like a bored 12 year old or me is not 0%
Wait.... is there??? The only one that stands out to me is the method of applying vs being scouted...
So we go over the events again, or as the game would probably put it, comb over The Longest, Most Ridiculous, Most Despairing Backstory to look for discrepancies.
Don’t look so pleased with yourself!
YES THANK YOU SHUICHI THANK YOU FOR STOPPING HER BEFORE SHE GOT STARTED AGAIN
It.... it doesn’t???
as;dflksdjf
U-Uuuuh Monokuma??? Are you just allowed to namedrop the title like that???
A-Anyway, this one was sort of vague - not sure if the game did too good a job of hiding it or not, but I certainly didn’t clue into this immediately because, well, I’d argue that Junko was ultimately the cause of this? And she was the original Ultimate Despair, even if Mukuro got roped into it with her? This felt a bit like being at a multiple choice exam where there are a few answers that are sort of right but not exactly right and then I cry
AND MUKURO!!! I WILL NOT STAND FOR THIS MUKURO ERASURE, DAMN IT!!! can you tell she was one of my favourites in the first game if not my favourite
“And that’s why, even though you are technically right, you are also wrong, and therefore will not get any points for your answer to this question.” sweetcheeks you sonuvab -
despite the mukuro erasure, consider me team maki
“Can it, nerd.”
It would have been really nice to have Maki in the first game.
We really are going over this piece by piece.
Okay, so now we’re reviewing the first game. They were forced to kill each other, then Junko was found out and killed herself in the end, which led to the eventual end of the Despair side....
Shuichi is clearly onto something that I haven’t quite latched onto yet. 8′D
This makes me think of how cool it would have been to have this text style in the previous games. Have I mentioned enough about how much I like the typography in drv3? Because I don’t know if that’s possible.
OOOH that’s right - I forgot! Or, well, I didn’t forget, but it didn’t really occur to me that we were remembering that they were literally trapped in the school by Ultimate Despair, I guess.
I guess the gist of it is that they’re remembering - well, not witnessing the events, but being told things were one way vs another. They would have been too young to have been alive at the time though, right? It seems to me that, though the game clearly wants us to take it a different way, we can also interpret this as them just being told the wrong thing within the memories themselves as opposed to the actual memories being entirely falsified. What if the reports at the time or the commonly-known story was that they had been locked in by Ultimate Despair, and it’s only the properly researched books like this that have the correct accounts? It’s not exactly an uncommon phenomenon for there to be widely-held mistaken knowledge/generalizations of famous events, unfortunately... 8′D
Anyway, I’m getting distracted because like I said, this is really not the angle the game is going with at all.
BULLSHIT
AND ALSO
WHY WOULD A BOOK EXIST THAT DIRECTLY CONTRADICTS THE MEMORIES YOU GAVE THEM
LIKE
WHY DOES IT EVEN EXIST IN THIS PLACE AT ALL
I’m seriously fixated on this book!
also
I love Shuichi just casually ignoring Junko!Tsumugi lmao
I’m calling her Junko!Tsumugi I refuse to call her Tsumugi!Junko I REFUSE TO GIVE UP ON TSUMUGI’S AUTONOMY
This.... this one has to be it, right? This was the one thing I remember getting really confused by when they talked about applying! In fact, I had thought the whole reason Shuichi was considered the Ultimate Detective was because of the homicide case and if that resulted in him being at Hope’s Peak, it was because word of that had traveled - but then if it was an application, that means either his parents or his uncle would have applied on his behalf, right?
this was a detail I remember remarking on and loving btw I got really sad when in Chapter 5 it started looking like they were all in the same class
I think more than the others, this is the big one. All that other stuff can be attributed to mistaken hearsay - but this? This is something they would have ‘directly experienced’.
Oh apparently he chose to come... despite feeling awkward about his title.
I wonder if he was pressured into it by his family....?
Or, uh. Let me correct myself. I wonder if, in this mistaken memory, he remembers being pressured into it by his family?
I-I feel like I would trust the book over you guys especially considering the whole ‘we remembered Kokichi Ouma as a Remnant of Despair and got him killed as the fake mastermind’ situation tbh.
well technically ultra despair girls is
That is a good point. I mean, it could quite possibly happen underground, but I suppose the same could be said of the Jabberwock Island one - there’s no reason that should be public knowledge.
“I mean, I know it’s nothing new, but bear with me here.”
H A L L E L U J A H
REALLY
REALLY
MAKI, REALLY
YOU OF ALL PEOPLE SHOULD KNOW BETTER
FUFCKFUCKING HELL GUYS YOU’RE KILLING ME HERE
sdfkdslfj fukging
noOOONONO
aND YOU! YOU SHUT UP TOO!!!!
“Also have you seen their outfits? Do you realize how terribly they would clash? ‘Oh Saihara, why would that matter what do uniforms have to do with anything surely Kokichi and his uniformed clown posse could just be a branch under the Remnants’ NO THAT WILL NOT FLY WHEN THE HEAD OF THE ENTIRE ORGANIZATION LITERALLY DOUBLES AS THE ULTIMATE FASHIONISTA!!!”
this level of reasoning is possible for saihara shuichi
.... what do you think, everyone?
And he still has the Supreme Leader title, even if these aren’t really their talents... there has to be something to that, right?
Shu -
Shuichi
The words DICE were written in big words over his giant hella awesome throne
He has a checkered scarf which brings about a certain ‘game’ feeling
he literally challenged you to card games
I’m.... I’m just gonna throw it out there, but there’s a pretty good chance the group he led was called ‘DICE’.
YOU SAW THE VIDEO YOU SAW IT DAMN YOU MAKI I KNOW YOU’RE BETTER THAN THIS YOU ARE SMARTER THAN THIS!!!!
“Maki also said he literally said he didn’t know what she was talking about when she interrogated him with a crossbow literally aimed directly at him but surely that’s unrelated -”
s o b s
I 100% bet Tsumugi was not counting on them finding this room. So.... beginning the trial, she tried to do a Kaede/Kaede’s twin mastermind thing. Then she switched tactics to being solely ‘Junko’ and her lackey Kokichi setting up the game with the last survivors of humanity as... revenge for Hope’s Peak, I guess? Or something.
So where are we going from here? Are we about to discover this was all a simulated scenario then?
Sort of like they’re trying to test different outcomes and scenarios - with different talents, maybe? Is there the selected 16 (15? 14?) talents that can be switched around at will, or is there a larger database of students’ talents? That’s what I really want to know.
But “there are an endless possibilities for lies,” a certain person may say.
why are you all ganging up on me also how when two of you are literally the same person and the other one is an AI acting as an extension of you -
It sort of hit me but this is a weird echo of Korekiyo’s trial, with Junko and Tsumugi switching back and forth with each other the way Korekiyo and his sister did. I wonder if there’s something to that, or if it says something about Tsumugi in general...
(one hangman’s gambit later...)
TALENTS ARE NOT THEIRS AND POSSIBLY ARBITRARY CONFIRMED
I WOULD KILL FOR KOKICHI TO POP OUT OF THE GRAVE TO SHOUT IT’S A LIE RIGHT NOW
FUCK YOU BEAR
ghggkhgkh
that is a dangerous precedent to set
But you weren’t planning on revealing this, right??? Right???? Your hand was totally forced! Don’t play this off like it wasn’t!
I swear I had a similar idea when I was coming up with how they could see themselves in photos/pictures if the students weren’t actually who they thought they were - about how their brain filled in the gaps and placed their own faces where they’d expect to see them (like in the funeral scene with the portraits, etc). Glad to know I was kinda right on that regard!
I really like it when they combine Junko and Tsumugi here. There’s probably something to that - when it’s Tsumugi herself acting as the mastermind, as opposed to just being ‘Junko’.
T-Those are some pretty big inconsistencies though? Why would there be incorrect options in those flashback lights in the first place? What was there to gain for their being options where ‘Ultimate Despair trapped the first class in’ and ‘Junko is the end-all of Ultimate Despair’? At least Kokichi’s made sense to have on standby, but the other stuff? Isn’t their existence a bit weird?
It’s... nice to see Shuichi focusing on Kokichi. Being posthumous and all it’s a bit late, but it’s still nice - especially after all that talk of ‘not understanding him’ and ‘the embodiment of a lie’, having him finally clue in to Kokichi’s real place in all of this - a victim of the mastermind - is good. It’s the perfect example of ‘the enemy of my enemy is my friend’ and Kaito figured that out last chapter, so it’s long past due for Shuichi to drag himself and everyone else to that conclusion, kicking and screaming if he must.
(he was jealous of Angie)
because he was trying to stop the game!!!!!
Which, honestly, was pretty clever on her part. I think overall Kokichi will come out of this looking the best - he had so little going for him and almost succeeded in his coup - but the fact that Tsumugi was able to counter his surprise attack still says a lot about her own intelligence and her ability to adapt, because in that moment she also had limited options.
THANK
YOU
LORD
WE HAVE GATHERED HERE TODAY TO SAY FAREWELL TO REMNANT!OUMA THEORY
REST IN PIECES AND NEVER COME BACK
Pretty damn successfully, too.
While the fact that her first inclination was to straight-up murder Kokichi was very Not Good, it’s at least good to know that it took the extra nudge of the flashback lights to push her over the precipice. Basically, it took turning Kokichi into a complete monster in her eyes - Despair with a capital D - to strip away his humanity entirely. I do wonder if she still would’ve staged a rescue mission of sorts to rescue Kaito? For that matter, I wonder if Kaito had been on the outside (with the Flashback Light used on him and everything) and it was someone else being held hostage like Shuichi, would he have been able to talk Maki down?
It’s interesting how they’re turning hope itself into a weapon here. I think Junko talked about this in the first game, the idea of giving hope out to maximize despair, so it’s not the first time the mastermind has actively used hope as a weapon - but it’s never felt quite as dirty as it does here.
!!! We’re seeing her as herself in the room!!! I guess it’s the flashback light classroom, but still!
That is so unfair considering they were all being threatened with death, you were straight up messing with their brains and also that airlock exists??? And they straight-up collapsed after being exposed to the outside??? I’m
I think Shuichi managed to break away from that a bit at the end... maybe. He seems more motivated by righting the wrong in Kaede’s case at this point, and of avenging everyone who died - but the same can’t be said of the others.
Man I even wondered what it would be like without Kaito and Kokichi there considering they’ve been the strongest ‘movers’ on both sides - and the answer ended up being ‘I’ll give you artificial motivation to act’.
SHE’S.... REALLY A KILLING GAME FAN GIRL AFTER ALL..........
Oh, this does feel dirty. She’s lusting after them in an abstract way - like pieces on a chessboard. Kokichi was able to compartmentalize and make people take certain actions to an extent, but even he had attachments that he wasn’t able to shake. I knew it felt like she had managed to keep herself from getting too close to them, with the sole exception of the protectiveness she felt for Gonta (which?? I want to know if we’ll hear anything about that specifically???) but this is... wow.
Actually, this is very Komaeda-esque isn’t it? She wants to see them succeed in their battles against each other in a similar way...
Junko only gets that look when she’s actually mad. So if Tsumugi is sporting that... well, she must be smarting a bit underneath all the gloating she’s doing. She was happily spouting off ‘hints’ before, right?
Oh??
me too tbh
OH THE TURNABOUT MUSIC IS HERE
THAT TRANSITION WAS SO GOOD AND SMART WHAT A GREAT WAY TO USE THE PORTRAIT STAND
oooh! OOOOH! OH WHAT A FANTASTIC POINT!
SHUICHI MY BOY YOU’RE ON A ROLL NOW! GET HYPED GET HYPED GET HYP -

Hey Shuichi, how's it going with Hina?
*In the pool area*
And that’s why donuts are the best thing ever!
I agree. Donuts are really great. My favorite are the kind with pink frosting. My uncle and I always used to get them after cases.
You too?! Omigosh, everyone says chocolate or maple, but I think the pink is the best!
You’re really cool, Saihara-kun.
Thanks. You too.
(Alright...we’ve been talking for a while and she seems really happy. Should I go for it?)
Hey...Asahina-san? Can I ask you something?
Sure, what’s up?
Are you...seeing anyone right now?
Nope.
*Genuinely surprised* Really?
Yeah, it’s just...never happened. Guys just don’t really go for me.
W-well...i-if you’re not too busy later, would you like to...go somewhere? With me?
Are...are you asking me out?
Y-yes.
I mean, I know we kinda just met and all, but I’ve really enjoyed spending time with you today. You’re really kind, friendly, and your smile is infectious. I just...thought maybe-
N-no, it’s okay. I get it.
I’ve...never been on a date before though. I don’t know what you’re supposed to do on them.
I’ve been on a few. And I’d like to show you a good time, if you’re okay with it. Maybe tomorrow evening?
You know what? I’d love to.
Great! So I’ll see you then?
Heck yeah! It’s a date!
(I did it. I asked her out. Oh my god, I actually did it.)
(Heh. Wait ‘til Kaede hears about this.)

How about AU where Traditional Dancer Shuichi doesn’t die. His friends always carry a bag of casual clothes for the boy so he can feel less restricted and have fun. Shuichi’s uncle is the cool guy that gives Shuichi more freedom and fights his parents.
GOOD!! Cause honestly, I probably would have made him eventually move out from his parents anyways if I ever did an AU like this cause he deserves to be happy and loved by, you know.....family that actually cares about him enough to do so!!!
But yeah, it does sound like an interesting AU! Maybe not one I’d exactly see myself implementing since-while the thought of him being a Traditional Dancer is a really interesting thing to think about-not exactly one of the talentswaps that are like my TOP interest, know what I mean? Still, it’s fun to talk about how he would be with different talents, so thank you!

And now for something different ( 1/2 )
Summary : “Who is he ?”
Maki shakes her head in annoyance.
“A walking, breathing headache if you want my opinion.”
( or : Shuichi Saihara tries to make new friends, but the only person that catches his attention is a mysterious boy with a taste for mischief. )
Rating : Teen and Up Audiences
Pairing : Shuichi Saihara/Kokichi Ouma
Characters : Shuichi Saihara, Kokichi Ouma, Kaito Momota, Maki Harukawa, Kaede Akamatsu and these rest of the ndrv3 cast.
*
“That’s it, Shuichi, I’m taking you out tonight !”
Kaito’s boisterous voice makes him raise his eyes from the oily fallafel that a grumpy-looking waitress dumped in his plate ten minutes ago. This is the last time he lets his friend pick the place for their weekly lunch.
“Taking me out ?” He repeats. “I hope you mean it in the sense that you are going to kill me. Not that you are dragging me to another nightclub. Kaito, you saw what happened last time. I’ll never be able to watch the discovery channel the same way, thanks for that.”
“Yeah, well” Kaito shrugs his trauma off. “How was I supposed to know it was a theme night ? You are really sweating the small stuff here, bro !”
“Right.”
Shuichi gives up on his food and pushes his plate toward Kaito, who only seems too happy to engulf another greasy abomination.
“By the way” Kaito keeps going between two bites “I wasn’t planning to go back there. It’s Maki Roll’s friend -”
“Maki has friends ?” Shuichi asks, half-serious.
The other points his chopsticks in his direction.
“Believe it or not, some people are able to see what a great person she is. Anyway, her friend, Kaede. We were together back in High School, remember ? Well, she invited us to her party. I promise you that no one will be dressed as an animal.” He wiggles his eyebrows a little “Except if you count human beings as animals and…”
“Okay, okay” Shuichi cuts him off. “Are you telling me that Kaede Akamatsu invited me to her party ?”
Kaito nods.
“Sure. She likes you, you know.”
“Kaito. I think the most words I exchanged with her was in second year, when her phone was discharged and she needed to borrow mine ! We don’t know each others !”
He glosses over the fact that he dragged a crush for the pretty pianist for the three year they spent in the same class. A hopeless one, of course, one that he never even dreamed of seeing reciprocated. She was just so bright and hopeful and positive and way too good for a guy who had troubles watching other people in the eyes.
“Well she doesn’t not like you” the other says triumphantly. “Come on, bro. Kaede invited Maki who invited me who is now inviting you. This is legit. Everyone does that, and Kaede won’t mind. She is a cool chick.”
Shuichi opens his mouth to say something, but he is interrupted by the waitress who is still in a terrible mood ( Shuichi can’t help but offer her a compassionate smile that she doesn’t return ) and picks up their plates as soon as possible before going back to the kitchen. Kaito gives her an appraising look.
“Do you think she likes me ?” He asks out loud. Then he lowers his voice in a conspiratorial tone. “Don’t tell Maki Roll about that. I don’t want her to get jealous.”
Yeah, right. Shuichi rolls his eyes.
“Whatever” he replies. “I’m not going anywhere tonight.”
“Shuichi ! I’m sorry to say that but my grandma has a more interesting life than you. When was the last time you did something that wasn’t working for your uncle, reading books, or eating lunch with me and Maki ?” He sighs dramatically. “How are you even going to find a nice girl for yourself ?”
Shuichi bites his tongue instead of reminding Kaito that himself doesn’t seem that interested in ‘nice’ girls either. His friend has a point. Shuichi’s social life is deader than it could ever be. He is just not that good at making friends. Or talking to people, really. Sometimes he wonders how miserable he would be if Kaito hadn’t decided one day to be his partner in a class project, praising his intelligence and dumping on him the entirety of the workload in one breath.
Then he had told Shuichi that he could do the oral presentation if that was easier for him. And they have been friends since them.
“I don’t want to be in a room full of people I don’t know” he pleads. “You are going to be busy being your usual social self and I’m just going to sit on a chair and wait for the time to pass until it’s late enough to go back home.”
Kaito puts a hand on his shoulder, a serious look on his face.
“Listen, Shuichi. I promise that I’ll make sure to introduce you to people. I’m not saying that you are going to end the day with a full list of new numbers in your phone, but if you just talk to people, you’ll see that they aren’t scary - well, most of them, anyway.”
Shuichi feels himself falters under Kaito’s gaze. What is the worst that could happen ? Skulking around for a couple of hours lost in the middle of people that don’t even notice he is here ? As if it was something new for him.
“Okay” he relents. “But I’m taking a book just in case it’s awful.”
Kaito laughs and pats his shoulder.
“That’s the spirit !”
*
That’s a terrible idea. Anxiety weighs heavier and heavier on Shuichi while he climbs up the stairs leading to Kaede’s house. He can hear music and screams coming from the inside of the house, but he can also see some people wandering around the gardens : it’s the beginning of summer, and the weather is nice enough that they can stay outside after sunset despite their short-sleeves and bare legs.
“So what do you think ?” Kaito says, all smile. “Pretty nice, uh ? And no one disguised as an animal.”
“Hmm” He replies, noncommittal.
Kaito knocks on the door, and despite Shuichi’s guess that the music instead is way too loud for them to be heard, it opens a few seconds later to reveal Kaede Akamatsu, her long blond-hair that she had in high-school now cut at chin length, and still just as stunning as she was then.
“Hey !” She greets them, and Shuichi is glad that she isn’t asking him to talk, because he needs a few seconds to realize that his teenage crush is right there in front of him. “Kaito, right ? Maki told me you might be here, I’m glad you could make it. And uh… it’s your friend ?”
“Yeah, Shuichi !” He hits him behind the head. “He was in our class in High School, too.”
Kaede smiles at him.
“That’s so nice. I hope you’ll have fun tonight, there are so many people I haven’t seen in a long time. I guess that’s what summer is all about, right ?”
She laughs, and so does Kaito, and Shuichi spends a few seconds wondering if he should laugh too, but then that would be weird to just laugh after everyone else.
“Sure thing” Kaito replies, giving her a thumb up. “See you later, Kaede !”
And then there are in, Kaito guiding him through the buzzing crowd with a hand on his back until they reach a quieter spot. Shuichi feels like he is going to throw up, and Kaito stops paying him any mind as soon as a pair of black pigtails appears in front of him.
“Hey Maki Roll !” Kaito says, moving closer to the quiet. “You are super pretty tonight !”
The blush on her cheeks is barely visible, but the fact that it’s there surprise Shuichi : maybe Kaito’s bragging about how she is totally into him isn’t as far off as he suspected. Still, she offers them an exasperated look.
“Don’t you have someone else to bother ?” She sighs, before turning toward Shuichi. “Did he force you to come here ?”
“Uh” Shuichi says.
“Figures. He is the most inconsiderate guy I’ve ever met.”
Kaito doesn’t seem very happy with where the conversation is going.
“Hey, guys, don’t insult me when I’m here, okay ?” He smiles at Maki, who frowns in return, as to balance his sudden happiness. “And I brought Shuichi here to find him a nice girl ! Do you know anyone here that our good friend could try to talk to ?”
Maki raises an eyebrow in disbelief, but then her gaze wanders through the room, and stops anytime she finds someone she knows.
“... Tenko would kill you… Miu would kill you… “ she mutters for herself. “Angie is nice but…” she throws a glance at Shuichi. “Yeah, she would kill you too.”
Shuichi shudders at how serious she sounds, but then Maki sees something ( or someone ) and freezes, eyes narrowed and angry.
“What is he doing here ?” She spats, poison in her voice.
Shuichi follows her icy glare. At the end of it, a smiling teenager, dressed all in white except for a checkered scarf, is chatting animatedly with a group of people. He observes him a few seconds, wondering what Maki is so upset for, but doesn’t find an answer.
“Who is he ?”
Maki shakes her head in annoyance.
“A walking, breathing headache if you want my opinion.” She frowns. “Anyway, not that this meeting wasn’t nice, but I’m going to see how Kaede is doing at the door, so…”
“Wait !” Kaito interjected. “What about Shuichi’s situation ? You can’t let him hanging like that.”
“I really couldn’t care less about Shuichi’s love life” she says. And then to Shuichi : “No offense.”
“None taken.” He assures her.
His answer earns him the first real smile on Maki’s lips since they found her, and he realizes that she is actually someone he wouldn’t be mind being friend with. Though, as always, he isn’t the kind of person who takes the first step. And Maki doesn’t seem to be the kind either. And that’s the problem of his life, isn’t it ? He can’t keep up with people like Kaito, and he can’t bring himself to seek the company of people like him. It’s a dead-end, no matter how you look at it.
Kaito watches Maki walk away, a thoughtful look on his face, and then seems to remember why he dragged his friend in this place for it’s almost like something switches on inside him.
“So, Shuichi” he says, back to his usual self “Let’s find you the perfect girl !”
*
Shuichi takes back whatever thought he had at the beginning of the evening : this is not just a terrible idea, this is the worst idea that Kaito ever had. He is dragged endlessly around the room, introduced to beautiful, friendly girls he has nothing to talk with and whose he forgets the name as soon as soon as his friend find another one. None of these girls are the problem. He is. Each time, this goes more or less well until Kaito leaves them to offer them a chance to have a private discussion. Then it crashes and burns and Shuichi just wants to run away.
He takes refuge near the buffet, where he can drink and eat and pretend to be busy until Kaito comes to find him for another show. That’s not what he is after, he thinks. He isn’t interested in meeting half of the people here. If there was just one person he could feel comfortable here…
“You need to taste this one, Rantaro !” an excited voice says a few feet away from him.
He turns his head to see that guy, the one Maki doesn’t like at all, busying himself with… the tasting of any food on the table ? He enthusiastically describes everything he puts in his mouth to a green-haired boy next to him, who doesn’t do much beside trying the food the other puts in front of his mouth when he finds one he really likes.
The whole scene is pretty ridiculous, since the food the teenager is tasting can just as well be plain potato chips from a common brand than homemade brownies. And yet Shuichi can’t really find the strength to make fun of him, even only in his head : these two are enjoying themselves, that’s more than it can be said for him.
Suddenly, as if he could feel Shuichi’s persistent gaze on him, he turns toward him, a curious expression on his face and an already-bitten mini-pizza in his hand. He blinks, and Shuichi can feel his cheeks burn. That was rude on his part to stare, wasn’t it ? Quickly, he focuses on the food, praying for the two guys to just ignore him and go away.
“Oh my beloved Rantaro, maybe you could go find someone you actually like spending time with ?” He hears the boy with the checkered scarf say, biting irony in his voice.
The other doesn’t fight him on his suggestion too much.
“Sure, have fun. Don’t forget that I’m leaving at 2, if I can’t find you then, you’ll walk, okay ?” He warns. “Tries to not do something stupid.”
“Nishishi, I promise I won’t do anything you wouldn’t do yourself !”
After that, there is a few seconds of silence where Shuichi hears his blood beating inside his head and he isn’t even sure if he is scared or hopeful or confused or everything at once. He almost jumps when he feels a finger stab him in his ribs. When he turns around by reflex, he is surprised by how close the other is. Close enough for Shuichi to note that the purple glints he thought he could see on his hair weren’t the result of poor lightning. It was subtle, but the boy really had purple hair.
“Hey !” He says with a smile so bright it’s eating up half of his face. “You check me out and then you ignore me like that ? Rude !”
Shuichi’s eyes widen. He takes a step back, trying to put some distance between them.
“Checking you out ?” He repeats. “No, I was just… listening to your conversation ? Which... actually seems even more rude. Sorry.”
The boy tilts his head on the side.
“Uh ? You think I care about you listening to my judgement on this party’s gastronomy ? Nu-uh, at least you were paying attention. Rantaro doesn’t get how understand this task is, unfortunately ?”
“Really ? … How is that important ?”
Suddenly, the purple-haired boy starts laughing.
“Nishishi, sorry, it was a lie ! I was just bored and I wanted to pretend I was one of these judges on TV who can treat people like vermins just because they have all the money and all the recognition. Can you blame me ?”
“Hm” Shuichi says, not sure how to replies to that. “But does that make any sense to do that with… potato chips ?”
“Wow, you were really paying attention, weren’t you ?” The other says, delighted. “Really, it doesn’t matter. You just have to say things like ‘this could use a more parsimonious seasoning’ or ‘I do think it should be dressed with some balsamic vinegar’. See ? Easy peasy as they say !”
Despite himself, Shuichi chuckles a little at how serious the other is on this question. He is also a little curious : sure, he only exchanged a few words with him, but he still can’t see why Maki would single him out and call him a ‘walking, breathing headache’. He is… weird, that much is true, but he doesn’t seem particularly mean spirited.
“Soooooo” the boy says after a few more seconds where they both fell silent again. “Who are you, suspicious stalker ?”
“I’m not suspicious and I’m not a stalker” Shuichi replies. “I’m Shuichi Saihara. I’m here with Kaito Momota.”
“Wow, two names I really don’t care about. Is that supposed to ring a bell or something ? Why do people give their name when they are asked who they are ? Isn’t that weird ? How would a name be an answer ? I’ll ask Kiyo when I see him ! “What’s a name ?””
“What’s in a name ?” Shuichi replies without thinking, as a memory comes back to him. “That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet.”
The boy gives him a little round of applause for his trouble
“Eh, Shakespeare ? Are you trying to pretend you are an intellectual or did you just look up this quote on the internet before coming here, hum ?” He laughs again. “So Shuichi Saihara, now that I know your name, care to tell me what’s your smell ?”
“Ah, I…” he racks his brain, trying to find something to say. It’s troubling to have someone’s undivided attention like that. Even when he spends time with Kaito, his friend is always distracted by the first shiny object he sees. “I’m a detective.”
That answer does seem to surprise the purple-haired boy.
“Really ?” he says. “You don’t look like a detective… hum… so do you investigate people ? It’s what a detective do, riiight ?”
Shuichi nods tentatively. That’s technically what his job is about, but the malicious expression on the other’s face pushes him to be prudent. Almost more than Maki’s warning about him. And yet this is the first conversation he had that night that isn’t going immediately to Awkward Silence Land. And sure, that’s also because the other boy seems to be happy talking for the two of them.
“Great !” he says once he got his confirmation. “So let’s play a game, alright ? Investigate me !”
“What ?”
“Investigate me !” He repeats, over-excited. “Let’s see if you’re good enough at your job to figure me out, okay. Whatever info you find on me by the end of the night, it’s a proof that you are actually not a fraud. What do you think ?”
“Uh…”
“Come on, Shuichi Saihara. I’m bored to death. Entertain me, entertain me now, dammit !” He taps his foot in a commanding manner on the floor to punctuate his sentence. It’s all very dramatic.
Shuichi feels a little light-headed. He isn’t sure what the other is asking of him. Sure, he investigates people but…
“I don’t talk to people I investigate, most of the time” he replies. “I just… look at them ? When they interact with others, mostly ?”
He doesn’t really want to go on about how most of the cases he takes care of are sorrowful spouses looking for a confirmation that their husband is cheating on them. All he needs to do is to snap a few pictures and to make sure that there is nothing in the office that could be used as a weapon in a fit or rage when he announces them the truth.
The truth sucks, most of the time. He is always so surprised when people are so insistent on finding it.
The purple-haired boy taps his index against his lips, thoughtful.
“Other people ?” He smiles. “Nishishi, okay, Shuichi Saihara, we’re doing it !”
“Ah… Shuichi is fine.” He mutters.
“Sure, whatever, Shuichi” He says, and suddenly his name sounds a lot less like a joke between this guy’s lips. “You have three hours to investigate me while I’m talking to other people. Is the game on ?”
Shuichi opens his mouth, then closes it, so confused by everything that just fell on him in a few minutes. But then… he doesn’t feel crushed by anxiety again. And he can just have fun playing ‘investigation’ with this boy until Kaito decides to put him out of his misery.
He nods. The smile he receives in return makes him a little dizzy.

I’ll Always Return to You (Day 7: Hope)
@oumasaiweekblog
Here is Day 7 for Oumasai Week 2019!
The final prompt is hope. I’m going to be honest, this prompt was really hard to work with. It felt very vague to me, so it took me about a couple days and some hours before figuring what it was that I wanted to do for this one. The way I interpreted it is that even through extremely rough times (ex. Kokichi suddenly vanishing and being presumed dead because he didn’t turn up after a certain amount of time), Shuichi still has hope that he is alive and that he will come back to him no matter what.
This may seem a little similar to After The Storm Fades Away, but this one still has its differences and it’s compressed into shorter one-shot rather than ATSFA, which is about 9k words in length XD
I hope you guys like it! :)
Title: I’ll Always Return to You
Prompt: Hope
Summary: After the simulation had ended and everyone was discharged from the hospital, Kokichi Ouma vanished. Four months passed before he was declared dead to the rest of the world. But, Shuichi knew better. He knew that somehow, Kokichi was still alive.
“Yo, bro, did you hear the news?”
“Hear what news?”
Shuichi finished wiping down the table at the cafe he worked at as Kaito spoke.
“That little shit went missing.” he said.
“Little...huh?” Shuichi quirked a brow at Kaito’s statement. “Who in the world are you talking about?” he asked.
“Who else do you think I mean? I’m talking about Ouma.” Kaito replied.
Shuichi froze at Kaito’s words.
“Koki—I mean, Ouma-kun’s gone missing?” he asked.
“Yeah. Apparently, the last time anyone saw him, he said he was going for a walk. He never came back, so one of his friends ended up filing a missing person report. It’s been blowing up all morning on the news and social media.” Kaito explained.
“Oh...that’s probably why I didn’t hear about it. My TV’s been busted since Sunday and I don’t really have social media.” Shuichi said.
“Ah, I almost forgot you don’t have any social media accounts.” Kaito picked up some empty glasses and placed them on a tray. “Well, that’s what’s going on in the world right now.” he said as he picked up the tray and he headed over to another table.
Shuichi sighed as he followed suit, wiping down another table.
As he did, he kept thinking back to Kokichi’s sudden disappearance.
It’s weird that he just disappeared like that, he thought to himself.
He looked out the window.
Let’s just hope that they’re able to find him quickly and that nothing bad happened to him, he silently prayed.
💜💜💜💜
“Mister Shuichi Saihara, your uncle has come to get you.” the nurse called out.
Shuichi stood and he turned, locking eyes with Kokichi.
“Well...it looks like I’m going to have to go now.” he said.
“Ah...” Kokichi fiddled with his scarf. “Indeed, you do.” he replied.
Shuichi bit his lip.
“Are you sure you’ll you be okay by yourself? You’re sure that someone will come and get you, right?”
“Yes, yes, I am sure! Don’t worry about me, Saihara-chan!”
“If you say so...”
Shuichi sighed.
“Well...when things get settled, do you want to hang out sometime?” he asked.
“Oh? Could it be that you’re inviting me on a date, Saihara-chan?” Kokichi spoke teasingly.
Shuichi’s cheeks turned a rosy red.
“...Yes, I am.” he replied.
The teasing smile left Kokichi’s lips as a blank expression washed over his face. He stared at Shuichi as he continued.
“Will you promise me this, Ouma-kun?” he asked, extending his pinky finger out to him.
Kokichi looked at Shuichi’s pinky finger and then up at him before sighing.
“Alright, fine.” he hooked his pinky finger around Shuichi’s. “I promise.”
💜💜💜💜
The sound of plates shattering was heard as Shuichi stared at the television in the cafe in horror, tears welling up in his eyes.
Former Danganronpa V3 Contestant Found Dead After Four Month Search
“No...no way...” he choked out.
There’s no way this is possible.
Kokichi’s not dead.
He can’t possibly be dead.
He’s not dead, he’s not dead, he’s not—
“Shuichi? Is everything okay?”
Kaito’s voice seemed distant as it blurred with the sound of the news reporter talking on television. A distinct ringing sound struck his ears as nausea swept over him.
“No...this isn’t right...he’s not dead...” he staggered backwards. “He’s not dead...” he choked out.
He began to feel overwhelmed as he tipped backward.
The last thing he heard was Kaito shouting his name before he blacked out.
💜💜💜💜
“...I like you, Ouma-kun.”
Kokichi blinked at him, expression warping into one of confusion.
“You what now, Saihara-chan?” he asked.
“I said that I like you.” Shuichi replied.
It was silent between them in the hospital room for what seemed like hours before Kokichi burst into loud laughter.
“My, Saihara-chan, I didn’t think you had it in you to make such an amusing joke! That actually made me laugh, so kudos to you!” Kokichi wiped away at a stray tear. “There’s no way you like me—“ he stopped upon seeing how serious Shuichi looked.
His laughter ceased as a blank expression washed over him.
“Okay, so you’re not joking. You actually mean it.” Kokichi dropped his hands to his lap. “Tell me, Saihara-chan, what kind of like are you talking about when you say that you like me?” he asked.
“I like you romantically, Ouma-kun. I want to date you.” Shuichi replied.
“Do you really, though?”
“I do. I really do like you, Ouma-kun.”
“But why me? You could’ve chosen to fall in love with anyone, but you chose me. Why is that?”
Shuichi swallowed, fidgeting in his seat as he lowered his gaze.
“Well...you’re really smart. You’re cute, funny, and even with your lies, you’re a pleasure to be around. I like everything about you, whether you want me to or not.” he explained.
Kokichi furrowed his brows at him.
“Is that so...” he trailed off.
He propped his elbows up on his lap, resting his face in his hands as he began to think.
“Well, I like you too.” he said.
“You do?” Shuichi asked.
“Yes...but.”
“But?”
“But, I don’t think I’m worthy of someone like you. Someone like me pales in comparison to you. So, I feel that in order to become worthy of you, I need to improve myself, don’t you think?”
“But I—“
“Don’t lie, I’m sure you think that same way, as well.” Kokichi smiled. “So, once I’ve become worthy of you, we can begin to date. But until then, wait for me.”
He extended his pinky finger out to him.
“Will you wait for me, Saihara-chan?” he asked.
Shuichi nodded.
“Yes...yes, I’ll wait as long as you want me to.” he replied as he reached out and hooked his pinky finger around Kokichi’s.
Kokichi smiled and this time, it was a genuine smile.
“Alright, then. I’ll make sure I don’t have you wait too long for me, my beloved Saihara-chan.”
💜💜💜💜
“Shuichi, you need to stop this. It’s been a year and some days since he’s passed.” Maki rubbed her temples. “No matter what you think, Ouma is not alive, he is dead.” she stated.
“You don’t know that.” Shuichi replied.
“Yes, we do, actually. We saw his body at the funeral, Shuichi! There was no mistaking it, that was him! He is no more!” she reached up to brush her hair over her shoulder only to realize that she no longer had long hair. “Get over yourself and move on already! You can’t be stuck in denial forever, you know!” she shouted.
“Like I said, you don’t know that!” Shuichi stood, knocking a glass off of the table. “For all you know, that body in the casket could have been a fake! He could still be out there, trying to survive on his own and make a new life for himself!”
He walked up to Maki.
“We’ve been around him long enough to know that he could easily fake his own dear if he wanted to. That’s just how he is: he’ll find every opportunity to pull some sort of prank on us. I’m confident that this is just one of them.” he said.
Maki stared at him, eyes wide.
“You...you’ve lost your marbles...” she trailed off.
Shuichi let out a halfhearted chuckle as he took a few steps back.
“I guess that’s what happens when you’re in love.” he said, reaching up to run his hand through his hair.
Maki shook her head.
“You know, I really thought I would be able to get through to you, Shuichi. But, it seems that you’re long gone.” she turned. “I’m done trying to talk some sense into you. I’ll have Kaito take over.” she said before walking out of his apartment, slamming the door shut behind her.
Shuichi continued to laugh before dissolving into sobs, collapsing onto the floor as tears streamed down his cheeks.
Maybe he really lost it.
But, that didn’t change anything.
It didn’t change the fact that he still strongly believed and hoped that Kokichi was still alive.
💜💜💜💜
-Two Years Later-
The leaves crunched under Shuichi’s feet as he walked through the cemetery with a bouquet of white lilies in his hand.
After chatting with Angie in the chapel, he went to buy some lilies from the floral shop that Tenko and Himiko owned and he headed to the cemetery.
He stopped before a specific tombstone, a somber smile touching his lips.
“Kokichi...” he murmured.
He squatted down and he ran his hand along the smooth marble of his tombstone.
At this point, he had calmed down from his state of deliriousness. He still hadn’t given up on hoping that Kokichi was still alive, but the acceptance stage of the grieving process was starting to kick in.
He set the bouquet down by the tombstone as he spoke.
“I miss you, Kokichi. I miss you a whole lot.” he whispered.
He pressed his fingers to his lips and then pressed his fingers against the tombstone.
He stood as he heard a voice from behind him.
“Heh...I can’t believe I have such a shabby-looking grave.”
Shuichi tensed, his heart racing at the familiar voice.
“Like, for real, they could’ve chosen something a little better than that. Marble looks cool and all, but still. I didn’t fake my death for them to pull this kind of shit.”
Tears welled up in his eyes as he slowly turned to face the person that stood behind him.
Their appearance was slightly different, their hair a darker shade of purple without the tips dyed purple. One eye was purple and the other was hazel. They had on a long black parka with clips and pins on it over a black long sleeve shirt along with a pair of black plaid pants and black loafers.
Yes, the differences were subtle.
But, the person before Shuichi was indeed him.
He choked out a sob.
“K...Kokichi...” he breathed out.
Kokichi smiled, extending his arms out.
“Come, Shuichi.” he said.
Tears streamed down Shuichi’s cheeks as he ran up to Kokichi and pulled him into a tight hug, spinning him around a little. He sobbed as he ran his fingers through Kokichi’s hair.
“It really is you...you really are alive...” he trailed off.
“Yes, it is indeed me, my beloved.” Kokichi said.
They dropped to their knees on the ground as Shuichi pulled away, cupping Kokichi’s cheeks.
“But...how...?” he choked out.
“Soooooo, you remember how I said I wanted to become someone that was worthy of you?” Kokichi asked.
Shuichi slowly nodded.
“Yes...what about it?” he answered.
“This was all a part of that.” Kokichi cupped Shuichi’s cheeks, wiping his tears away with his thumbs. “In order to become someone who was worthy of standing by your side, I had to kill off the old me. So, I made arrangements with my organization and we staged it to make it look like I had fallen into a deep ditch while I was on my walk and died as a result. As soon as the whole world knew that Kokichi Ouma was dead, I hid out at my secret base in Europe and began to try and start over. I got a new look, new clothes, and I even changed my name.” he explained.
“You changed your name?” Shuichi asked.
“I did! My new name is Kichirou Seiichi.” Kokichi chirped.
“I see...but, I can still call you Kokichi, right?”
“Of course you can. Just not in public, alright?”
Shuichi nodded in response, causing Kokichi to smile.
“Good.” he said, leaning in to kiss Shuichi on the lips.
Shuichi kissed back, pulling Kokichi close to him.
How long had he been waiting for this moment?
How long had he been waiting to hold Kokichi in his arms, kiss him, and let him know just how much he loved him?
Too damn long, he realized.
They pulled away from the kiss moments later, pressing their foreheads together.
“I love you, Kokichi.” Shuichi said.
Kokichi smiled.
“Love you too, my beloved.” he replied as they kissed again.
Their second kiss was quick and chaste. Kokichi pulled away, stroking Shuichi’s cheek lovingly.
“So...that date you mentioned almost four years ago...are we still on for it?” he asked.
Shuichi smiled.
“Yes, we are.” he replied.
They stood and Shuichi slipped his hand into Kokichi’s. He brought their interlocked hands up and he kissed Kokichi’s knuckles.
“Shall we go?” he asked.
Kokichi giggled.
“Of course! Lead the way, my beloved!” he chirped.
“Alright.” he replied as they left the cemetery hand in hand, ready to embark on a new journey with their newly formed relationship.
