The Frozen Lake
It was the third day since he had stopped feeling like dying.
About a week ago he had woken up from his far too lifelike fever dream and a few days later the last spikes of the fever itself had been gone too just like the hallucinations it had brought in his sleep.
He still had been sick though and welcomed Rael telling him to stay in bed until he was perfectly healthy again all too eagerly.
While he still sneezed every now and then, it was at least tolerable now, still annoying but he didnât feel incredibly uncomfortable anymore.
That day, just like the last and also the ones before that, he had awoken late. Against Raelâs order to stay in bed he had found the courage to get up and take a look out of the window. It was a sunny day, which in Coerthas still meant that it was bitterly cold though. But the sun was shining brightly and already high in the sky too which meant it had to be almost midday. He had slept way too long again, way to many hours for a surprisingly dreamless sleep. Or maybe it was exactly the lack of dreams that allowed him to finally rest, after all in the past there rarely had been good onesâŠ
For a moment he considered to go downstairs and ask for a late breakfast if that wasnât too insolent given the late hour but then a knock sounded from the door.
Quickly he hurried back to bed, just in case it was Rael, but the person who carefully peeked into the room a few seconds later wasnât a viera.
âAh, you are awake! Thatâs good!â, Haurchefant exclaimed happily and brought a small tray with hot soup and also something warm to drink. âIt is so late already, you must be horribly hungry. Alphinaud checked in on you earlier but you were still fast asleep and he didnât have the heart to wake you.â
A little uncertain on how to answer to that, Aâviloh just nodded. Haurchefant grinned, put down a mug on the bedside table and handed Aâviloh a comfortingly warm bowl filled with some rather delicious smelling stew.
Instead of fetching the chair from the small desk by the window, Haurchefant sat down at the lower end of the bed balancing the tray with his own lunch on his knees. Rael once told him that ishgardian society had an absurd amount of strict and antiquated rules and so Aâviloh couldnât help but wonder, that although it seemed like a very appropriate distance to him, in Haurchefantâs hometown the fact alone that he dared to sit on someone elseâs bed was probably scandalous.
âI hope you donât mind me having lunch with you.â, the Elezen asked as he noticed Aâviloh staring.
Quickly the Miqoâte lowered his gaze to his bowl of soup. âNot at all.â, he muttered and tried a spoonful of the food just to change the topic. âMhh, this is very good!â, he mumbled, still chewing, surprised by how good this really was compared to the bland food and bitter teas Rael had usually brought him these last few days. It must have been the Vieraâs way of punishing him for running away.
Haurchefant laughed and then for a while they ate in silence.
âYou look a lot healthier already.â, the Elezen stated after a while with an amiable smile on his face before taking a sip from his mug.
Aâviloh shrugged a little embarrassed, since it had been his own fault that he hadnât been well in the first place. âOnly because all of you took so good care of me.â
Haurchefant nodded. âYou know, you had us all horribly worried right?â
âSorry about that.â, he said and guitily looked into his mug.
Curiously Haurchefant eyed him for a moment. âWhy did you do that anyway? Run out into the storm.â
A bit surprised Aâviloh looked up. Had they all thought he had done this on purpose? âThere wasnât a storm when I left! What do I know about weather? I didnât expect it to start snowing, let alone that much!â
That made the Elezen chuckle again but he still looked at him expecting an answer.
âStill⊠why did you leave?â
âI assumed Rael told youâŠâ, Aâviloh replied not sure what Haurchefant wanted to hear exactly. He nodded. âRael did. But maybe I want to hear it from youâŠâ
Aâviloh sighed. His plan hadnât been very smart and he felt a little uncomfortable having to explain his reasons to someone else, when in retrospect it didnât make much sense even to his own ears.
âYou know the⊠circumstances under which we fled Ulâdah⊠I couldnât⊠um⊠the fact that we didnât even know what happened to our friends⊠I wanted to find out, because it doesnât seem fair to me that we escaped while all of them didnâtâŠâ
âMhhâŠâ, Haurchefant nodded thoughtfully but let go off the topic for now. Instead he asked, âAnd how are you feeling today?â
Somehow that question confused Aâviloh even more.
âWhat do you mean?â
âItâs a simple question, isnât it?â, he said still smiling politely.
Of course it was a simple question. Just the answer felt unreasonable complicated to him. To make things even more difficult people who asked such a question usually wanted to hear âIâm fine, and you?â or âVery good, thank you.â for an answer and rarely the truth. They certainly didnât want to hear âA few days ago I was convinced I was going to die and honestly it wasnât that bad, so now Iâm still not sure wether I am happy to still be alive or notâ.
âAlright⊠I guess.â, he mumbled instead. He had never been a good liar and could only hope that this fact wasnât too obvious for the Elezen.
âYou know what?â, Haurchefant proclaimed after watching him thoughtfully for a second. âToday is a wonderful day. We should go for a walk.â
âA walk?!â, Aâviloh exclaimed wide-eyed, as if he had just asked something unreasonable of him.
âWhy not?â
Aâviloh couldnât think of a good reason why not, other than that he was supposed to stay in bed, so he shrugged.
âWhereâs Rael?â, he asked instead.
Haurchefant smirked. âDo you need Raelâs permission to go outside?â
âOf course not.â, the Miqoâte protested. âBut Rael will be mad if I run off again, especially against their orders to stay in bed.â
âRael and Alphinaud went to the observatory earlier.â, Haurchefant explained. âWeâll be back before they are, I promise.â
What was Aâviloh supposed to say against that and also against the expectant look on the Elezenâs face. He took another glimpse towards the window and decided that it looked nice enough to go outside.
âFine.â
âGood!â, Haurchefant exclaimed happily and collected their empty bowls and mugs. âThere should be warm clothes for you in the wardrobe. If you need anything else just ask someone. Iâll wait for you by the northern gate.â
After Haurchefant had left, Aâviloh remained sitting in his bed for a moment longer contemplating on the Elezenâs question. Yes, he felt better again. But better in what comparison? Better than a few days ago when he had felt and also been half-dead? Though he didnât feel sick anymore now, there still was a weigh on his heart. From his plan that had failed so spectacularly and even more so from the dreams he wouldnât have minded to keep on dreaming forever.
Vehemently he shook his head and decided not to think about that now or he would just crawl back under the blanket of his comfortably warm bed again. Instead he got up and took a look into the wardrobe. Almost none of these were his own clothes of course since all he possessed were the ones he had worn on his body that day they fled Ulâdah. Very unsuitable for this climate. But neither did he see the borrowed clothes he had worn that night when he had tried to run away. Everything in here looked even softer and warmer like someone had wanted to make sure he was feeling comfortable. To his surprise the things didnât look that much too big for him either, unlike his last set of clothes. Besides a few Hyur most people here at Camp Dragonhead were grown up Elezen but these clothes looked like they belonged to neither. Maybe it were clothes for Elezen children, he wondered and also thought that in that case someone must have brought them here just for him.
Grateful for so much effort he picked a few pieces and got dressed. Lazily he ran his fingers through his hair to get rid of the worst knots but the look into the small mirror at the washbasin, where his tired face stared back at him reproachfully, just made him sigh. Once he was ready he took the warm coat out of the wardrobe too and went out to look for Haurchefant. Just as he had said, the Elezen was standing by the gate that led to the north-east, towards the ruins of the Steel Vigil.
From afar Haurchefant already recognised the Miqoâte, his bright red hair a singularity among all the people living here. Pleasantly smiling as always he waved at him and Aâviloh couldnât help but smile a little too and wave back as he hurriedly walked towards him.
âThere you are! I see the clothes fit you nicely.â
Aâviloh nodded.
âThey do. Thank you very much for these.â
Haurchefant dismissively waved with one hand. âItâs the least I could doâŠâ
But he had done a lot more than that, Aâviloh thought. âI think thereâs more I need to thank you for. Rael told me it was you who saved my life.â
âMhhhâŠâ, Haurchefant tilted his head as if he wasnât sure if this statement was entirely the truth. âRael is too humble. They played a bit of a role in that too. After all it was Rael who noticed you were gone. And it was also Rael who didnât leave your bedside and tried their best to heal you.â
Aâviloh remembered waking up and finding the usually quite touch-averse viera cuddled up to him with a look on their face so horribly sad like he had never seen on them before. Rael had pretended it was nothing but it had been a very unconvincing performance. Asked about it Alphinaud had only offered a few sentences about how worried Rael had looked and how they had used all kinds of spells he himself had never seen or heard of before, all of it to try and save him. It had made him feel even more guilty for his stupidity.
So maybe Haurchefant was right. But still it had been him who had risked going out into the storm to find him.
âAnyway. I still want to thank you! Honestly.â, he insisted. But how honestly was it really?
Sure, he was glad to still be alive. After all his plan hadnât been to run out into a blizzard and freeze to death, although some of them seemed to think that was the case. But once he found himself in this situation he had to admit that he had welcomed his fate rather willingly. A fact that shocked even himself a little looking back at it now.
âYouâre welcome. After all you wouldnât be any help to your friends frozen to death out there.â, Haurchefant joked with a wry smile on his lips.
âI guess not...â, Aâviloh muttered, the topic of his friends making his mood visibly sink again.
Of course the Elezen noticed and his smile turned into a playful grin. âBut I acted a little selfish too, you know? I think Camp Dragonhead is a lot friendlier with your company and I would like to have you and your pretty smile around a little longer.â
For a moment Aâvilohâs eyes shot up to look at the others face before he quickly pretended that something somewhere a little bit to his left was a lot more interesting. Sometimes Haurchefant randomly said things, Aâviloh hadnât had the slightest idea how to react to. Not because he was that oblivious but simply because it puzzled him. Nonetheless the air suddenly didnât feel that cold anymore on his face.
Haurchefant was always very kind to him. Well, he mostly was kind to everybody but sometimes he seemed to admire him especially. Him of all people, although there was nothing special about him. Haurchefant sometimes spoke of him like he was one of the greatest heroes of all time and it felt so ridiculous to him. He was just silly, cowardly Aâviloh! What had he ever achieved in his miserable life to justify such admiration? The people called him a Warrior of Light but wasnât that some grand overstatement? Some days he thought all of this had been a horrible mistake. A great misunderstanding! Then he wondered how he had ever gotten entangled in this madness in the first place and also if he ever would get out of it again. But what else should he do with his life anyway...
While Aâvilohâs brain still screeched in desperate search for a proper response, Haurchefant seemed to realise he had flustered him and glossed it over by gesturing to the gate.
âHow about we walk a few yalms? Thereâs something you need to see!â
Still too dumbstruck to speak or to even wonder what the Elezen was talking about, Aâviloh nodded and then proceeded to follow him out into the snowy landscape.
After a few minutes Haurchefant paused and took a deep breath. âIsnât the air wonderful today?â
Aâviloh followed his example, breathed deeply and let his gaze wander over the snow covered landscape with a few pines here and there and the mountains and ruins of the Steel Vigil in the distance. The air was cool and fresh, still cold enough that the warm sun couldnât melt the snow. Instead the rays of sunshine made the scenery shine and sparkle as if everything was covered not in ice but in millions over millions of tiny diamonds.
âIt is.â, he answered and smiled, surprised how beautiful this inhospitable landscape could be, before with a sudden spark of curiosity he finally asked. âWhere are we going?â
âItâs not far anymore.â, Haurchefant said with a grin on his face and pointed into another direction. Shortly after and only a bit further ahead they reached a small lake.
As they got closer Aâviloh noticed that it not only was covered in a layer of snow and ice but also that quite a few off-duty soldiers, given the proximity to the camp he assumed they had to be, were standing right on top of the frozen lake. No, they were not quite standing. It looked more like they were dancing or flying maybe. More or less gracefully they moved over the lakeâs surface in fluid swift strides, some just moving in wide circles and other swirling around this way or that. Aâviloh had never seen something like this and it looked strange and impossible but at the same time very beautiful to him.
The two of them had almost reached the lake by then, Aâviloh a few steps ahead to get a better look at the wondrous people on the ice and he already wanted to ask how they did that, when his attention was drawn elsewhere by a curious squawking sound.
âOh! Look at them!â, the Miqoâte exclaimed, his fascinated smile still turning a little brighter, as he gestured to a small flock of wild geese resting at the shore of the lake. With ruffled feathers they sat closely huddled together at the edge of the ice and suddenly Aâviloh couldnât help but worry about them. They looked so unbothered by his presence, sleeping through the day and all the hubbub around them, looking all exhausted and frozen with their puffed up feathers. Like anything could happen to them and they wouldnât even mind.
Strangely he wondered what he himself had looked like when Haurchefant had found him unconscious in the snow. He must have been a pitiful sight. Had the Elezen thought him beyond saving too, just like he himself had. What if he had found him a little later or not at all? Maybe that would have been better, a voice murmured to him just like it had so many times before and for a moment, tempted by the grief heavy on his heart once again, he almost believed it.
But no, he would be dead then and while he would have liked to imagine that this would mean he could be with his loved ones again, it was not exactly what either of the tribes he had lived with believed.
Vaguely he remembered his father working for hours, digging a grave at what used to be Wellwick Wood. An elderly woman too exhausted by their long journey, his grandmother if he remembered correctly, had died shortly after they had arrived there. With a sad smile on his face his father had explained to his children, who had stared down into the hole in the ground with confusion in their eyes, how by returning her body to the earth there could still grow new life from this death.
Or the drake tribe of the Sagolii Desert, who always burned their dead and left the ashes to be carried away by the desert wind, believing that it would make it easier for the deceasedâs aether to return to the Aetheric Sea and create something new elsewhere.
With a sudden sharp pain in his heart Aâviloh realised that neither of the people he loved had gotten the burial they would have wanted for themselves. And neither had Aâviloh himself wanted to die in the coldness of Coerthas and be forever forgotten under a thick layer of snow and ice. He had thought about dying before but never had he been this close to it. For a second he wondered if this was something worth speaking to Rael about, but he wasnât sure they wouldnât misunderstand and get mad at him again.
âWhy do you make such a sad face now?â, Haurchefant asked having noticed the smile slip from the Miqoâteâs face. But Aâviloh just vehemently shook his head and focused on the geese again.
âThey must be horribly cold.â, he wondered in a voice that suggested he already planned to take all of them to the safety of his comfortably warm room.
Haurchefant chuckled. âDonât worry, they survived the storm out here after all. They keep each other warm, thatâs why youâll rarely see one of them alone. A bit like you and your friends.â
âMaybeâŠâ, Aâviloh answered thinking about this comparison for a moment. âI just wish it wouldnât always be me who needs to be taken care of. But as proven in Ulâdah and now once again I am simply too weak and useless to keep myself alive, not to mention anyone else.â
The Elezenâs face got a little stern as he folded his arms in front of his chest. âDonât say that, I am sure itâs not true! This was just bad luck! You are neither weak nor useless!â
Aâviloh shrugged. âBut thatâs how I feel right now...â
Slowly Haurchefant nodded before speaking again with a silent but determined voice. âListen. Iâll never forget how bravely you fought for Francel although you barely knew him. You could have gotten yourself in trouble with that and you helped him anyway.â
âItâs not like I did that on my own -â, Aâviloh tried to protest but was immediately interrupted. âBut you still helped! And Iâm sure even without Rael you would have done so!â
Another shrug was all Haurchefant got in response, so the Elezen thought for a second before making an offer. âYou want to make yourself useful, right? Get stronger? I could teach you how to fight like a real ishgardian knight, with sword and shield. Or we have some dragoons at Camp Dragonhead too! Iâm sure thereâs a lot you could learn from them.â
Aâvilohâs face turned to disbelief. âI really donât think I could fight with armor and weapons this heavyâŠâ
âYou canât say so if you donât try! And I have you know that dragoon armors are surprisingly light. How do you think they could still be this agile otherwise? Promise me to at least try training with them a little!â
He didnât really want to agree to that. He knew he would make a fool of himself. But how could he say no with Haurchefant trying everything in his power to cheer him up. Weakly he shook his head and muttered: âFineâŠâ
âPerfect!â, Haurchefant exclaimed with a bright smile on his face. âI think an early reward for your efforts is appropriate then!â
Confused Aâviloh watched him take a small bag off of his shoulders, which he hadnât even noticed until now. For a moment the Elezen was busy undoing a knot before he opened the bag and presented to Aâviloh a set of two weirdly shaped blades attached to pieces of wood with leather straps. He had no idea what these constructs were meant to do and that was plainly visible on his face. âWhatâs that?â
âIce skates of course!â, Haurchefant said as if that would explain it all but the Miqoâteâs face remained clueless, so Haurchefant gestured to the lake behind them. âYou attach them to your boots so you can walk on the ice like this!â
âOh!â, Aâviloh exclaimed as he understood what Haurchefant was planning. âI donât think-⊠I mean Iâve never-⊠You donât really want me to step on that lake do you?â The idea somehow scared him.
âWhy not?â, Haurchefant asked for the second time today with this smile that made the question sound like a challenge.
âItâs just a bit of ice!â, Aâvi objected. âWhat if it breaks?â
The Elezen shook his head and proceeded to fasten the metal blades beneath his boots. âAh, donât worry. The ice is thick enough, it will take at least a few more days to melt.â
âI donât knowâŠâ, was all Aâviloh replied as Haurchefant pressed another pair of skates into his hands. But the Elezen remained determined and took a few wobbly steps through the snow and onto the ice. âSee! I can stand on it and it doesnât break! You are a lot lighter than me, so why wouldnât you be able to?â
Oh, you donât know my bad luck!, Aâviloh thought but Haurchefant didnât look like he would take that for an excuse. Instead he stretched out a hand towards the Miqoâte. âCome one! Believe me, this is going to be funny!â
For a second Aâviloh pondered his options. The idea of nothing but a little bit of ice between him and the water still terrified him but Haurchefant seemed so excited about this and the other people actually seemed to have fun too. Maybe he should at least pretend to try... Reluctantly he sat down on a rock and tried to put on the skates just like Haurchefant had done a moment ago.
âThe clasp on the back too. Make sure none of them are loose⊠Yes, that looks fine!â, Haurchefant helpfully explained. As Aâviloh got up, he almost flopped right back down into the snow. It was a weird feeling to balance his whole weight on only two thin pieces of metal. As he carefully took the first few steps towards the lake Haurchefant reached out for him once more. âHere! Take my hand! I donât want you to fallâŠâ
Hesitantly Aâvi stepped onto the ice and immediately felt like the ground was being pulled away beneath his feet. He struggled for balance, feeling himself falling backwards, so Haurchefants arm was a very welcome thing to hold on to.
With a chuckle the Elezen tried to loosen Aâviâs desperate grip on his arm and instead took each of his hand in one of his own before carefully making slow steps backwards pulling Aâviloh over the ice, which Aâvi could swear was making suspicious crackling sounds below them. There was no way to tell the blades beneath his feet not to move, so all Aâviloh could do was try not to fall and plead to Haurchefant with ears flat on his head and panic in his eyes, as he slowly was pulled further onto the lake. âNo, no, no. Take me back, thatâs a horrible idea!â
âCalm down. Thereâs nothing to be afraid of. I promise.â, Haurchefant said soothingly and continued to explain to him how to move on the ice skates. And in fact the Elezenâs calm voice slowly made Aâviloh feel less anxious. His hands, frantically clasping at Haurchefantâs, relaxed along with his legs. It was still a weird feeling to be standing on the ice but now it felt a lot easier to remain balanced. He glanced at the people around them while remaining as still as possible, studied their movements for a moment and then tentatively tried to mimic the way they slowly pushed their feet above the slippery surface. To his surprise he really moved forward without much effort and also without feeling the sensation of falling again, closer to Haurchefant who had steadied him with his outstretched arms so far.
âSee! Itâs not that difficult.â, he said while making another step backwards so Aâviloh had to follow with another step forward. The Miqoâte, strangely excited about the fact that he was actually moving on these weird ice-blades, laughed happily. âYou are even going backwards!â
Haurchefants laughed. âOne step after the other. Letâs teach you how to go forward first, hm? Iâll let go off one of your hands but donât worry, I still got you. One feet after the other just like you did beforeâŠâ
In fact it almost felt easier now that he could use one of his arms to balance himself. Very slowly at first they floated above the icy surface of the lake but soon Aâviloh got braver. Once he almost lost his balance but for a comparably tall and strong person like Haurchefant it seemed like a very easy task to keep a small Miqoâte on his feet. Almost falling had felt like a shock for a second but only moments later they were laughing about it and in the end Aâviloh was surprised and also a little proud how quickly he had learned and how much fun this was.
He wasnât sure how much time they spent there on the frozen lake but at some point a bell sounded from the nearby Camp. Startled Aâviloh looked up (and almost lost his balance again). âHow late is it? Iâm sure you have more important things to do than this! Iâm sorry if Iâm keeping you from doing your work.â
But Haurchefant just laughed and teased, âWhat could be more important than prove to you that not all of Coerthas is a deadly wasteland trying to kill you? But I think we really should return soon. I donât want you to get cold again and after all we also donât want Rael to find out about this little excursion, do we?â
For a second Aâviloh wished the viera could see him now and wondered what their reaction would be like. The thought made him chuckle.
And as they floated, one last circle around the lake, Aâviloh couldnât help but wonder that maybe it was happy moments like this. The reason he was still here. Moments that made his life worth living.

I have thought about this so much, because Viktor being spotlighted so frequently in the trial scene is just so interesting. I think part of it is partly just foreshadowing that This Character Is Going To Be Important, of course, but I do think thereâs more.
Thereâs a couple really great ways you can read their early pre-journal-stealing-Viktor interactions, but I think my favorite is just⊠ego.
Itâs one thing that the arcane versions of Jayce and Viktor very much have in common with their League counterparts (if you see them as separate). We definitely see bits if Jayceâs ego throughout the show, from the way he is fine with playing along with Heimerâs advice in the trial until they start calling him an incompetent failure of a scientist, to the bits of preening and social prowess he shows as he gets rebranded as the Man of Progress. A lot of Jayceâs character conflict stems from the fact he knows he is right about Hextech/magic, but he either cannot get other people to see that, or he cannot reconcile his own vision with Hextechâs place in the real world.
However, Viktor is just as confident and egotistical as Jayce.
This is a man who beat the odds of his birth and absolutely believes he is one of the smartestâ if not the smartestâ in the room at all times. This is a man who is happy to work on illegal, experimental projects because he knows he is smart enough to figure it out. Heâs even confident enough to do it twice in the show, once with Hextech and once with Shimmer! I think Arcane Viktor is certainly tempered with a lot of empathy and a clear drive for survival as opposed to his League counterpart, but he is just as concerned with Legacy and scientific success as Jayce, Heimerdinger, and Singed areâ itâs just that they view that success in different ways.
(Iâd like to add that I personally prefer to think of Jayce and Viktor in Arcane as a proto-League version of themselves, with the League lore that currently exists.)
So my favorite way to read the scenes where Viktor gets Jayce arrested is simply that itâs not about Jayce in particular, but that Viktor simply thinks heâs a better scientist. Viktor came from very little and already succeeded âbeyond his beginningsâ, he knows he is consistently smarter than most of the graduates in the Academy, and he already has some beliefs on how Heimerdinger himself is wrong. He will happily go on to challenge Mel and the ideas of power and law in Piltover repeatedly. So itâs not about Jayce, but about the fact that Jayce is yet another scientist who got in over his experimental pay grade, and Viktor gets to watch another rich Piltovan university student realize they arenât actually all that great. He did have a presupposed image of Jayce, even if it wasnât about Jayce Talis in particularâ though it could have been, because we know from Jayceâs Journal in the league client event circa 2021 that Jayce was failing most of his classes because he was obsessively working on Hextech, and that Heimerdinger was worried about him. Maybe Viktor even knew that before he walked into Jayceâs ruined apartment.
Jayce failed. Publicly and catastrophically. Viktor would never.
And I think it isnât until he hears what Jayce was trying to do that Viktor realizes how alike he and Jayce are. He wasnât some failing rich kid who got in over his head; heâs a sponsored student willing to push the boundaries of experimental and illegal science and magic in the name of progress. Itâs easy for Viktor to switch to needing to work with this man because he realizes Jayce isnât stupid, that Jayce has very similar goals to Viktor right now, and that Jayce is also every bit as insane as Viktor is in his pursuit of progress. Suddenly Viktor realizes he may not be the smartest in the room, just like Jayce realizes he might not be the only one smart enough and ballsy enough to create Hextech. They match each other, and continue to match each other, in brilliance, drive, and ego for the better part of a decade. Even in League, they met at an Academy party and bonded over the fact that they hated being there and how they were both so much smarter than anyone else in the room.
Obviously we donât know how they will fall apart in Arcane S2 (I have so many theories but we will see soon enough). But in League, their egos are also a massive part of why they fall out, but continue to be almost single-mindedly obsessed with the other person for the rest of their lives. They are the only person who matched each otherâs intellect, goals, and drive for years, and even though Piltover and Zaun are filled with brilliant people, they never really care about anyone else besides their old partner. I think a big part of that is that each of them, respectively, believes the other hurt their own pride and ego in an unforgivable way, so they are going to spend the rest of their life making it the other personâs problem.
Hi why did Viktor seem almost glad that Jayce was being arrested and put on trial in ep 2?
LikeâŠhe has this haughty, kind of contemptuous attitude towards Jayce throughout the episode until after the trialâwhen he realizes that Jayceâs research on magic may be something worth looking into.
But BEFORE that, when Jayceâs apartment is being searched, everything about Viktorâs demeanor seems to indicate that heâs putting Jayce below himself. When Jayce expresses distress about the situation, Viktor responds with sarcasm or nonchalance: âI believe someone should have said that earlier.â and then when prompted he introduces himself not as a person, but by describing his position: âIâm assistant to the dean of the Academy, who it may serve you to remember is also head of the Council.â
He seems glad to hand Jayce over to the enforcers and does so with a SMILE, and later in the episode when Jayce walks into the Council room for his trial, thereâs this lingering shot of Viktor smirking at him as he passes!! And itâs 1000% on purposeâViktorâs the only character besides Jayce (in a crowd of people, mind you!) whoâs fully lit up in that shot.
Itâs like the writers wanted to clearly convey that Viktor had a âyouâre getting what you deserveâ mentality towards Jayce, which is odd considering Viktorâs characterization after the trial is nothing but amicable towards Jayce throughout the rest of Act 1 before it turns into fondness over the rest of the season.
SoâŠif this haughty attitude towards Jayce was put there on purpose and not just as an introduction to the smartass counterpart to Jayceâs optimistic charm, then why does Viktor have such contempt for Jayce if they donât even know each other?
see this is why we need a novelization or at very least the published script because i wanna know what these characters were thinking
#character analysis#arcane thoughts#sir e speaks#I think Jayceâs ego in both arcane and league present in a more obvious and outward vanity along with his bold approach to his work#but Viktorâs character is also so reliant on Needing To Be Right#especially in league where he is so adamant that he is The Most Correct Scientist Ever that he chops off parts of his body to prove it#likeâŠ#Jayce is more outward about it but I think Viktor is more brazen with it when you really look at him#and for both of them I like to see their ego / vanity / pride as both a virtue and a flaw#itâs what sets them apart from all the others#its also what causes most of their problems in society and with each other#league Jayce grows into ego manifesting as self deprication so he just comes off as a brilliant asshole#but kinda marketed in the hot celebrity way in Piltover I think#whereas Viktor grows into his ego making him insular and standoffish and a little insane#he doesnât like being around other people because theyâre too dumb and too close minded#but I think itâs very integral to both of their characters that they both believe they are the smartest in the room at all times#and they probably are#and so many of their fights later are just a big dick (brain) measuring contest over who was more right after all#ALSO in your tags you said that we were maybe being led to believe Viktor would steal Jayceâs work#and I really do think we were!!!!#I think he was being set up to be a possible villain and then it was like âPLOT TWIST heâs actually greatâ#and then season 2 will be like JUST KIDDING LOL#Iâd love a parallel of Jayce (or someone else) stealing Viktorâs work like in lore but I donât think that particular plot line will happen#anyway I love them so much and the more flawed they are the better imo#what if you were narrative partners but also foils and also in love but also divorced#viktor league of legends#jayce league of legends#this could all probably be explained so much better but itâs 6 am and Iâm tired

Shame
this is a rather personal piece; it's primarily based on my own struggles
It probably could've been executed better (like having more of the interaction she's agonizing over), but I really wanted to focus on that visceral reaction of shame, guilt, and self-criticism
here's a long ramble I wrote while starting this ...
I realize, perhaps much of the reason certain depictions of moon trigger me so much is due to my own overwhelming shame and guilt. It's a defense mechanism crafted because I yet lack the strength to accept myself. I suppose that's why characters like Five Pebbles are so appealing to me â he is someone I've given the room to express his faults, his flaws, his hatred, his despair, his pain, and all his imperfections... For him to be mean or angry is natural and expected, so it's not as scary to express my negative feelings with him as the instrument. He's not a "good person", after all, so it's fine if he is "bad." His standards aren't as high.
Conversely, because I idealize LTTM so much and connect her to myself, I deny her the same things I deny myself. I do it without even thinking, really...
I've often thought, "but this sort of emotion doesn't really suit her... isn't this sort of projection too self-indulgent? If I made this, it'd be too obvious that my own emotions are bleeding through onto the canvas..."
So, I wonder if she's experienced that same sort of emotional repression. It'd be cathartic, in an unfortunate way. To see someone else struggle to grapple with such things, because they want to be pure and virtuous and not upset others...
It's harder when you spend so much time shaping that perfect, faultless, virtuous sort of image, especially when you do it reflexively. Unconsciously. You're making the pressure for yourself worse, but you can't stop... I'm actually not a very friendly person. I'm actually quite afraid and irritable, and I push people away when they get too close. I don't want to hurt anyone, and I don't want anyone to hate me... I don't want to cause suffering or strife. Sometimes, I wish I could just be a completely passive observer.
But I suppose I'm a human being instead, so I have to accept that. Thanks for reading, I guess. I'm not really looking for emotional support here... I just want to be understood.

hsr x gn!reader relationship hcs
warnings: penacony spoilers (2.0+), bug mention (screwllum), angsty (aventurine & acheron), ocd mention (sunday), slight dark content (ie stalking) at end in Sundays but itâs marked in red to avoid if uncomfy
characters: sunday, screwllum, acheron, aventurine
a/n: i feel like itâs so obvious i did like 2 of these a week later đ i need more Sunday content in game
sunday
⧠if you manage to get past Sundayâs formal exterior, what lies behind it is a complete âknow-it-all.â
â§let him nerd out about the greatest books in the current and past amber eras. heâll make sure to tell you all about the authors too.
â§if the two of you have liking books in common, congrats! heâll bring you on a tour to the primal waking library where you can chat all about it.
â§sundayâs compulsions become even worse with you around. is his shirt properly tucked in? he hopes thereâs no wrinkles, maybe he should iron all his shirts again. oh gosh-are his shoes untied? you donât even notice this. heâs used to hiding his true feelings.
â§he definitely confesses first. heâs aware that his status can be a hindrance when forming genuine relationships.
⧠maybe afterwards heâll let you touch his wings. he loves the feeling of you stroking his feathers. especially when those annoying pin feathers grow in. the biggest sign of trust amongst birds- and sunday of course.
⧠and obviously you always get free vip to robinâs shows.
â§before and after the âRobin incidentâ are two very different Sundays.
â§the after, is a very possessive Sunday. he canât have you become like Robin. he uses nightingales to keep watch on you, to make sure youâre safe. he knows itâs unhealthy but he just lost his sister, he canât lose you too.
-
Aventurine
â§aventurineâs flirty facade fools most people. they think heâs sleazy and untrustworthy, and so do you in the beginning.
â§at first he talks to you because he thinks your reactions are amusing.
â§eventually your relationship gets too deep for comfort.
â§this guy will never open up. if he has feelings for you, youâll never know. itâs not because heâs ashamed. itâs because he cannot comprehend someone actually liking him.
â§the only way heâll confess is if you do it first. and even then he plays it off like a joke, something he canât even believe. it takes a lot of button pressing to get him to admit his feelings.
â§aventurine is a very vulnerable person. he may rub off insults but they still hurt him deep.
â§the first time you hug him, he is baffled. affection has been foreign to him since the extinction event.
â§worming your way into his heart will get you even more riches then before. sure, he hands out money like nothing, but to you? that credit card is unlimited.
â§âwhat, thatâs all?â he encourages you to spend.
â§brings you to casinos for good luck. not as if he needed any, but with you at least his hand doesnât shake.
-
screwllum
⧠it isnât uncommon for inorganic species to feel love. just as it isnât uncommon for organic species not to.
⧠Screwllum, however, hasnât experienced that feeling.
⧠he sees the way organic species love in a way he hasnât. as a genius society member and one interested in life itself, how could he not be interested.
⧠which is why when he starts feeling a fluttering in his chest whenever youâre around, he must get to the bottom of it!
⧠confesses instantly. he has zero experience yet remains so confident.
⧠immediately takes time out of his day to interact with you. in whatever way possible.
⧠it could be the busiest day of his life and heâll still make time for you.
⧠heâs described as a gentlemen by his close companions. this means opening doors for you, taking you out to places, etc.
⧠sounds too good to be true. but it is true.
⧠his one flaw, if you can even call it that, is his love for all life. and that includes bugs! no smashing them on his watch! heâs picking them up before you even get the chance.
⧠if you like bugs, even better. heâll gently pick them up and talk about them with you. the two of you can take turns.
-
Acheron
⧠the first time you meet her, you think sheâs a polite but introverted lady. she claims to be a galaxy ranger and you have no reason to doubt her.
⧠her blunt way of speaking leaves no room for questions.
⧠that is, until you get too entangled in each otherâs destines.
⧠your first meeting with acheron, wasnât actually your first. youâve met her many times. every time though she seems not to know you.
⧠Acheron lies to protect you. just as she lied about being a galaxy ranger, she lies that she has no feelings whatsoever towards you.
⧠perhaps you remind her of someone she once knew.
⧠on some days, acheron traverses through her memories to look for you. she sees the hurt look in your eyes, but sees your smiles too. the path of a self-annihilater is a lonely one.
⧠ultimately, if you manage to convince her with words and actions that you truly care for her. she will put forth that effort tenfold. she desperately doesnât want to be alone anymore.
⧠acheron is very protective towards you. if thereâs a hint of danger, sheâll encourage you to take her with you. even going on her own to eliminate it herself.

I DISLIKE HUNTER'S FAVORITISM
Lilith is so based for this. Hunter gets special treatment from not only in the Emperor's coven but also in the entire show, crew and fandom.
The crew also loves the idea of giving him more trauma and focus. During livestreams and talk shows, there are always questions about him, even more than King - one of the main characters.
In the show, many point out that the first letters of the episodes in which he appears with the Hexsquad is an acronym for H-E-A-L (Hunting Palismen, Eclipse Lake, Any Sports in A Storm, Labyrinth Runner). It means the Hexsquad, even Luz, the main character, is a plot device for his arc. I also knew that Hunter was written to stay at the Owl House after the whole event of Hollow Mind. Imagine him staying with the main characters of the show, having them comforting him, center around him. It will be the same with how the Hexsquad is written to be centered around him as his support system again, specifically Gus and Willow. Undoubtedly, the show intended to make him one of the main characters so obviously that it isn't subtle anymore.
- Luz: the main character of the show. In season 2B, Hunter replaces Luz as their new best friend in the trio. Like seriously? Even though Luz is dating Amity, she can still have spare time for her friends. But the writers don't care, so Hunter will have more time with Willow and Gus. It paints Luz in a bad light as someone who throws her friendship away once she finds love. It's OOC of Luz. Never thought a main character could get such bad writing treatment.
The nightmare sequence is also unreasonable. While othersâ resentment towards Luz sounds more logical, Hunter's isn't, at least to me. I don't get why the writers wrote Luz thinking Hunter get mad of her like this âI lost him helping you.â Who helps who actually? He came to Luz's place first. He was the one asking Luz for help and not the other way around. He literally ran away first and intended to face Belos alone despite Luz's calling. Even though Luz is self-blaming, her interaction in the nightmare sequence with Hunter makes no sense.
- Next is Amity: I was expecting Amity to have more screen time with Willow, since I'm not satisfied with how their friendship is written. But alas, if Luz, the main character, doesn't even have any episodes ever since Hunter appears, how could Amity - a side character - can?
The writing flaw is obvious in her rekindled friendship with Willow. The way Amity views Willow's strength is negatively retconned. In Understanding Willow, she says that she didn't think of Willow as weak. In the next episode, she even cooperates with Willow and Luz to compete against Boscha. Grudgeby is a dangerous sport, and Boscha is a tough competitor who has won several cups. Obviously, Willow proves her strength there, shows her magic and even scores the last goal. Amity sees it all. In season 1, it's going in the right direction, Amity acknowledges that Willow isn't weak and even cooperates with her. She never tries to stop Willow from competing with the excuse of thinking her weak. But in Labyrinth Runner, she gets done dirty so bad. The writers intend to show that she's overprotective of Willow and wants to protect her, but by what way? Trying to make up for the times when she can't stand up for Willow in the past? No, by underestimating her. This makes no sense compared to how she's written in season 1. This scene, when Amity says that the guards are tough, and not anyone can stand up to them, her lines can be added up like âWillow, you just got kidnapped by them and I'm worried about you. I faced the Scouts before, and they were quite tough, so I got thrown down the pit by one.â It would be better than writing her as underestimating Willow's strength! Oh and I hate the irritating scene âGood luck, Willowâ. They could have just written Amity asking Willow if she was okay.
Why Amity is retconned like that? I strongly believe that Amity is flanderized as someone who underestimates Willow's strength to uplift Hunter, who admires and appreciates her strength despite only meeting her once. I already saw âWillow forgives Hunter faster because he sees her as strong while Amity sees her as a weakling.â
- Willow: Any Sports in a storm is supposed to be a Willow's episode but it's a Hunter's one apparently. Willow is written to be hard-working, determined and strong from the start of the episode with her dream of being the first Flyer Derby captain. But it gets overshadowed by Hunter's new friendship and interaction with the group. From the middle till the end, there's barely any scenes of Willow being recognized as a good captain. There's no scene at least like other teammates praising her for her leadership and planning. And there's no scene of her interpersonal emotions like âI did itâ or her fathers being proud of her. She wishes to be good at Flyer Derby and follow in her fathersâ footsteps. It's never mentioned again. It's not about her, it's only about developing Hunter and the ship tease Huntlow. Instead of writing how her newfound confidence and captain leadership are recognized, her old wound âhalf-a-witchâ is brought up to develop Hunter and Huntlow, even though it's not the SAME thing Hunter and Willow have in common!! Hunter gets the spotlight in the Flyer Derby team, from praising, encouragement to the photo taking. He's the centre in the photo, just like how everyone is focused on his slow typing at the end of the episode.
Willow is also retconned as a forced girlboss stereotype from dragging Hunter when they first met to being insensitive of his trauma. Like why did she get done so dirty? Especially in Thanks to Them, Willow comforts Vee quite well. She said Vee didn't have to go to the museum if she was still afraid. But it's not the same in For the Future when she tries to comfort Hunter by bringing a Flapjack's photo right after he lost his palisman.
- Last but not least, Gus. Labyrinth Runner is a Gus episode that gets overshadowed. The breathing technique is something special in Gus and Willow's friendship. But it's used to develop Hunter again. It's used to develop his and Gus's friendship, and his relationship with Willow.
Gus, who has been friends with Willow for years, can't recognize the real Willow while Hunter can. It's reasonable if Willow gets scared of Hunter. Also, that he thinks Willow doesn't get scared of him isn't entirely convincing to me. Even though Willow isn't utterly scared, she would at least be wary of him. He kidnapped her and others, locked them up, took their Palismen and took them away from their families. He saved them at the end, but what they've been through was very traumatizing. Willow is insecure about her strength. Not to mention it doesn't make any sense when Hunter sees how Willow doubts her strength and calls herself half-a-witch. He stirs up her insecurity and how can he think she isn't afraid of him? Yet in Labyrinth Runner, he is written to be more understanding of her strength more than Gus?
If Hunter knows that the illusion isn't Willow, Gus should have known as well. Gus is the master of illusion, and he can't even recognize an illusionist? Also, his best friend? They could have written that Gus recognizes Willow through the breathing technique, which is the only thing they knew to solidify their friendship more.
In Labyrinth Runner, both Amity and Gus are done dirty in this episode in order to make Hunter outshine them. And most of all, Huntlow. Hunter is written to be more understanding and appreciating Willow's strength more than Gus and Amity, so Huntlow would be more convincing.
- Season 3 has only three episodes but more than half of the screen time is about Hunter, playing the main character role just like Luz. I'm glad that I'm not the only one who thinks Hunter's possessed scene and killing Flapjack are unnecessary. How does it benefit his character and the plot? Hunter can still defy and fight Belos without being possessed. The only effect from this is his ability to do magic and going through more trauma. According to what the crew says, they like to give him trauma. It makes me think that they're too focused on him and make him have more screen time and attention than others.
- The writer gives him too much trauma yet they can't handle it right. Hence, they shouldn't have added that in the show, especially in a cancelled one. In For the Future, Hunter has to shove his grief down to comfort Willow. Gus is sidelined like usual in favor of Hunter and Huntlow. He knows about Hunter's secret, what Belos did and it traumatizes him a lot, but his feelings are never mentioned during season 3. Oh great, it's only brought up again when it has something to do with Hunter.
- Why can only Hunter reach out to Willow when she has a breakdown? Why is Gus trapped and further away from her? And if I thought it can't get any worse, Willow only says thank you to Hunter then holds his pinky. What about Gus? He tried to comfort her too. Willow first met Gus when he was having a mental breakdown, she comforted him and understood him. That's the start of their friendship. It will be much more meaningful when Gus plays a more important part in helping Willow by the same breathing technique she taught him. Even though Willow and Gus usually stay together, their friendship is written on such a surface-level despite having a lot of potential.
- Willow and Gus are considered as the most powerful characters in the group. But the writers say âno, let Hunter shineâ. First minute, both Willow and Gus are confident that they can take down Kikimora, but later, Hunter has to come to the rescue. Like, I'm not saying Hunter can't save her or Willow is weak but it doesn't fit right in this moment. Willow has just got her comfort and confidence back, yet she doesn't get to have the moments to show her strength and power. Give me Willow and Gusâs power combo that defeats Kikimora satisfyingly, not just boasting about their power, but failing and then getting rescued by Hunter. It feels like their power is nerfed out so Hunter has a chance to show off his new power (even though he's already done that).
- Lastly, Flapjack tattoo, another sign of Hunter favoritism to me, so feel free to agree to disagree about this. Tattoo is one of the most noticeable traits on one's body.
It's ingrained on the skin and noticeable on the charactersâ designs. How on earth everyone else has to have the tattoo of his Palisman? I get that they want to respect Flapjack, but this seems like Hunter has main character favoritism in the show. The group doesn't even bond with Flapjack that much. They can show respect for the Palisman in other ways, making a carving, album and so on. If they tattooed it, it's mostly because of Hunter. I still prefer Luz to have flowery tattoos or something else related to her father. And I prefer others having their tattoos of their own Palismen rather than Hunter's.
- Not only the Hexsquad but another side character also suffers from this, Alador. In Clouds on the Horizon, Alador shows his clear doubt towards Hunter. It makes perfectly sense because he was the Emperor's right-hand man, everyone is doubtful of him, including people at Hexside. They even intend to send him back to the coven. But when Alador doubts him, instead of explaining himself like he has with the Hexside teachers and students, he chooses to criticize Alador. "At least I didn't build him an army." That's a weak counterback. Did Hunter forget that he was the one coming to the Blight factory and inform that Belos wants the Abomatons exclusively?Belos is the most powerful person on the Isles, so both Odalia and Alador can't defy him and can only build the Abomatons only for him. They can't sell their invention to others anymore. It's hypocritical of Hunter to say that to Alador when he was in the same position like them, unable to defy Belos's power and demand. Instead of saying that "I'm leaving Belos" "I'm not going back to him." "I realized he wasn't like how he actually is" to counter Alador's doubt, Hunter criticizes Alador for also helping Belos with such a weak counterpoint. People only attack others personally when they run out of excuses in an argument. The writing of their interaction makes no sense, and intends to make Hunter the victim and Alador the bad guy. Unfortunately, I only saw how hypocritical Hunter is.
In short, the favoritism in Hunter's writing did damage to other characters' writing, including Luz, the main character. He is written as the most sympathetic character, while some characters are nerfed and OOC to make him outshine them. If the show is written like that, no wonder the fandom centres around him too much and put other characters down in favour of him.

Literally where do people get the idea that Jason was full of himself and that he thought he was better than Percy? This is legit brought up in so many 'why-i-hate-jason-grace" arguments it just screams lack of reading comprehension and obvious Percy bias saltiness. Like just say you are bitter that Jason is written as percy's equal and that you want Percy to have nobody rival him đ
Never once in his povs did he ever think about how much better he was, on the contrary it's just him not feeling good enough about himself. He and Percy NEVER said anything bad about eachother.
His and Percy's rival is just a joke between two powerful demigods who have rival dads, that's literally it. Even if Jason did indeed think he's better, so what about it? What's the big deal?
he has worked hard and accomplished great things, so he has like, every right to be confident in his power, stop acting like hes all weak and inferior when he canonically killed a titan with like his bare fucking hands till the point Krios swore vengeance on him. No he's not "weak" or morally inferior to Percy as a person. You are merely trying to cope. Not to mention the way people judge a character's worth SOLEY based on their abilities is a huge red flag in itself, but that's a discussion for another time.
he shouldve canonically had more achievments and power than he originally got in the books as a son of jupiter. but rick made Percy too OP and fumbled jason for the sake of keeping percy's spotlight intact. Has it ever dawned on people that Percy is shown to have cool abilities like bending tears but Jason is never shown to have abilities like controlling lungs? Yeah, that's authors privilege for ya.
Y'all put Percy in an obnoxiously high pedestal and that's not a good thing. It diminishes his flaws and makes him appear so saint like and Gary Stu even though he's not. the fact that ppl get so sensitive over their rivalry and try to belittle jason by making up scenarios (like claiming jason thinks he's superior and shit) and go around saying that to ppl to reduce his value DESPITE being well aware that he has like enough hate already, is so insanely petty. BOTH Jason and Percy deserve equal amounts of respect.
God forbid a teenage boy say he's better than the other as a joke, he's such a terrible, stuck up, and shitty person who deserved death for that, isn't he?
#Attack me all you want idc I said what I said.#Yall just dig up reasons at this point. It's giving an 8 year old roblox kid behaviour.#Fandom to a boy with a tragic story who literally did nothing but exist and be a good person: he's a villian who deserved death! đĄđ #I swear if Jason slander still exists a few years later then I have no hope in this fandom anymore.#I thought this fandom was peaceful đ#âI hate Jason with passion bc he's boring and nobody should rival Percy because he's the best. How dare Jason be the son of the king of gods#âhow dare someone be percy's equal. Nobody should be written as Percy's competitor đ€đĄđ â like womp womp ig#Y'all are so salty lmfao. The fandom makes Percy into such a gary stu even when he's not.#pjo#pjo series#pjo hoo toa#pjo fandom#percy jackon and the olympians#heroes of olympus#percy jackson#jason grace#pjo hoo#hoo

I think that despite aaaaaaall the very obvious problems about the whole Tuskens plot in AOTC (that also come from IRL bias); something people seem to be hung at is about Padmé's romance being unbelieveable after Anakin confesses the massacre to her; and like I can understand why, since not everyone thinks too hard about her character, but I do, and it's just kind of annoying to have most people saying it was character assasination for and that she shouldn't have known about the fact. BUT! I think it shows quite a lot of deepness and the dynamic about their relationship.
Is a very, very morally gray moment of Padmé, I would say is one of the most charged moments for her, her response is "To be angry is to be human"; Padmé had been, since she was presented, going through ungodly amounts of stress, her people was dying and being taken to camps when she was 14, at the start of AOTC one of her handmaids died in front of her eyes, and through none of these moments she has been able to express much more than some veiled, some composed, some acceptable, anger, I don't believe this to be coincidencce.
Padmé pretty much represents the justice and the good ideals of the Republic, she's pretty much a source of light in the story; this isn't to say she can't do wrong, or that she isn't flawed. She's giving Anakin a chance to do better, even though isn't within her right to decide so, but she's also kind of the only character that does seem to understand Anakin the best, almost beat for beat and she knows he's coming from a very very bad place, with a terrible childhood, she knows how he was when he was nine, she knows of her past.
She isn't oblivious or naive about how terrible Anakin's actiones were, she's just aware of his reasons, she's just able to sympathize with him, she's able to see he feels inmense guilt, and she also is sure he can still be able to do better (and he did! As an audience we know he was capable of much better and of being a force of good very needed. His fall doesn't undo the fact Anakin did went through great lengths to help others) Her reaction, honestly, just puts her in league with Luke imo. "Hey, that's terrible, awful, beyond , but you know, I still love you, because you're still a person I care about. You can do better."
But it also shows how her love is, in many ways, similar to Anakin's, in the sense that's very encompasing, very loyal, very "Follow you to hell and back", she's able to offer him the sympathy and the belief of his ultimate good nature that she wouldn't offer to others (she fell in love with him before going to Tatooine). It can be see as hypocritical, but she's also kind of right, she's proven right. She's still shocked and heartbroken in ROTS because the situation was much more different, because there wasn't any reason for her to believe he would commit something like that again after he clearly expresses so much guilt and trauma over it.
And, when it comens to the relationship with Anakin, I think it makes some senses; it means there is honestity between them, he confessed to her one of the most evil deeds he had commited yet, there's something about it that makes all of Anakin's others relationships different: Obi-Wan and Ahsoka didn't know about this In Anakin's POV, is probable that any kind of love or appreciation Obi-Wan and Ahsoka showed him came with a layer of guilt and distrust because he thinks they don't really know him, probably thinks they would hate him or think he deserves punishment.
And yeah, like, morally talking, he should've gone to jail or at least have a trial or something, but like, what exactly would that manage, or fix in your little fantasy-sci-fi movies? But you know who knew and still loved him? Padmé and Palpatine. In one had, you have Padmé who truly, does love him and believes in his ultimate capacity for goodness. On the other...
So yeah, I think knowing of what he's capable is actually a very integral part of the anidala relationship, and it does give Padmé some deepness you wouldn't usually see in other female characters, and the narrative does tell you she was kind of right.
Because, if I'm honest with you, Padmé and Anakin marrying with Anakin keeping the secret of murdering a whole village, wouldn't do it for me, would actually make me not like or not care for the relationship at all, at least not in their 'romance' sense, because it would be just kind of a Blue Beard, kind of your average "Woman finds out Her Wonderful husband/boyfriend is secretly a Serial Murdered and keeps it hidden for her". That, and also that Anakin is actually very honest, maybe a bit too honest for his own good, when it comes to Padmé and Palpatine, he spills at the edges all the time.
It's meaningful, for them both, that they met each other when they were under extremelly bad circumstances, she knew him as a literal child slave that risked his life to save strangers, and he knew her first as a servant, a handmaid, and then as a queen. And then she knows of his crimes, and he knows he can be fully honest with her, and now he knows how she felt about being a queen, about being a politician, things she never says to anyone else. Can i request for any twisted wonderland characters that's fit x reader who don't know how to cook
yeah, of course!
Some of these characters have shorter parts because I added every character in the game, minus side characters such as (Artemiy Artemiyevich Pinker (Che'nya), Rollo Flamme, et cetera)
Also! If there are any inadequacies with grammar, I apologize, I'm at a friend's house while i'm writing this and I'm very easily distracted.
If it's not obvious, I'm a sucker for soft Sebek
Ortho is strictly platonic!
And Reader can be viewed as either Yuu or not!
@nisobird because there's Azul
Warnings ;; None
Relationship ;; Romantic
Type ;; Headcanons
Heartslabyul
Riddle Rosehearts ;; Heartslabyul Housewarden ;; Second Year
Riddle's world comes crashing down, in all honesty.
The boy was raised with the ideal that a partner is supposed to be at least a decent cook, but you are the exact opposite.
He will eat your food only to be nice.
Even though he can't cook all that well himself, he'll try to suggest ways to make it better even though none of his suggestions really, truly help the awfulness of your cooking.
Let's just hope you don't end up cooking for his mother.
Trey Clover ;; Heartslabyul Vice-Housewarden ;; Third Year
Trey is quite literally the sunshine to your moonlight, your sky to your ground.
You two are total, clear opposites.
He can cook almost anything without flaw, especially pastries and sweets.
He will panic if he ever sees you in the kitchen, trying to cook something.
He'll subtly take over for you, slowly taking more and more control of the kitchen.
Cater Diamond ;; Heartslabyul ;; Third Year
Cater would not care one single bit.
He is taking so, so many photos and posting them on Magicam, he does not give two shits whether it looks amazing, or absolutely terrible.
He will post it, specifically because you're his partner, you're his significant other.
And yes, he will shove it down his throat even if he needs to vomit it up later.
Ace Trappola ;; Heartslabyul ;; First Year
Ace can't cook, not one bit.
He's also very weird about his tastes.
He'll eat pickles and ice cream but he probably won't eat a single slice of cheese.
He'll eat anything you make at all whatsoever, unless there's cheese. (I headcanon he absolutely hates cheese, don't ask why)
He'll watch you cook and won't even interfere.
He does notice how bad your cooking is but he won't say or do anything about it because he genuinely does not care.
He'll even tell you it's actually good
Deuce Spade ;; Heartslabyul ;; First Year
Deuce doesn't even notice how bad it is, and if he did, he wouldn't even care.
He'll anything and everything, minus bell peppers.
He cannot, and will not, eat bell peppers.
He hates the taste, the texture, everything about bell peppers is everything he hates in all of Twisted Wonderland.
He tends to not watch you cook and has no reason for it.
Savanaclaw
Leona Kingscholar ;; Savanaclaw Housewarden ;; Third Year
Leona's not exactly shameless when it comes to meats, despite any sort of meat being among his absolute favorite foods.
He's not very picky about meats though. Just as long as it's cooked decently, and seasoned alright, he's fine.
Despite being a literal prince, he does not have a prince's palette.
He'll literally eat raw meat if it suits his needs
Of course, that's mostly because of the lion beastman part of him
Ruggie Bucchi ;; Savanaclaw ;; Second Year
Ruggie is literally shameless, make him anything and he'll eat it.
Just as long as it's not rotten, he'll eat quite literally anything.
He's not the greatest cook, but he'll help in any way he possibly can.
He'll most definitely bring your food to the kids in his neighborhood, no matter how terrible it is.
He wants to make sure they're fed, and he's happy when you're willing to cook.
He never tells you if he genuinely thinks you're food is bad, he'll end up feeling terrible and he knows that so he won't say a thing about your cooking.
Unless it's any sort of praise.
Jack Howl ;; Savanaclaw ;; First Year
Jack isn't entirely picky, but he's not the biggest fan of your cooking.
Being who he is, he'll feel bad for even thinking that your food is bad.
Also being the honest man he is, he'll sadly point it out to you, admitting his wrongdoing.
He's a big sweetheart, so he'll try to be as kind to you as he can, no matter how you end up reacting.
Octavinelle
Azul Ashengrotto ;; Octavinelle Housewarden ;; Second Year
Given that Azul grew up with his mother owning a restaurant, and he himself owning a restaurant, he's a bit... iffy over your cooking skills.
Of course, he'll always be nice when he brings it up. You're his significant other after all.
He'll point it out and he may give you some of his mom's recipes to help you follow along.
He helps you cook much more than he used to, letting you have most of the control, but he will come in if he sees you do something wrong.
Jade Leech ;; Octavinelle Vice-Housewarden ;; Second Year
Jade finds you and your cooking very, very entertaining.
He doesn't ever actually help you unless he finds you cooking mushrooms and.... screwing them up.
After that, he's immediately on your case and helping you cook.
Within the next two or three weeks, you're an absolute master chef.
Especially with mushrooms. By time Jade is done with you, you're more than likely a better chef when it comes to mushrooms than he is.
Floyd Leech ;; Octavinelle ;; Second Year
Floyd thinks you are the most entertaining human he's ever met.
Like some other people, he doesn't think your food is bad, just that it's so unbelievably entertaining and unique.
He actually doesn't try to help your cooking or change it or buy you anything new.
He simply watches the chaos of your cooking unfold, while occasionally adding his own, odd concoction to the mix.
And he will eat your food, no matter what you put on his plate, or what you put in the odd concoction you call your cooking.
Just don't add any shiitake mushrooms, he begs of you.
Scarabia
Kalim Al-Asim ;; Scarabia Housewarden ;; Second Year
Kalim more than likely trusts you enough to not have Jamil test the food you give him.
The only way Jamil would let Kalim eat your food is if Jamil himself trusted you.
So, if Jamil trusted you, Kalim would more than happily eat your food himself.
He probably wouldn't care if your food was the best food in the whole of Twisted Wonderland, or if your food is the worst thing in all of Twisted Wonderland.
He'll eat it happily and won't complain one bit.
Jamil Viper ;; Scarabia Vice-Housewarden ;; Second Year
Jamil, if he truly trusts you, will eat small bits of your food and will help you cook every single time you step in a kitchen.
He won't completely take over like Trey would, but he will guide you in every single way, subtle or not.
Once you get better and better, he'll eat your food more and more.
He'll take over for you at any time and finish the cooking for you, if that's what you'd like, all you'd have to do is say the word.
Pomefiore
Vil Schoenheit ;; Pomefiore Housewarden ;; Third Year
You're going to make the Vil Schoenheit break out. And that's a feat, especially considering his rigorous skincare routine.
He won't eat any of your food, and he will flat-out tell you, in a relatively nice tone of voice, that your food is not exactly good.
If he realizes that it hurts you, he'll try to find ways for your cooking to taste relatively better, whether it be buying you new utensils, or buying you cookbooks or any other things like that.
He promises you that he never meant to hurt you, he just wants to... help.
Rook Hunt ;; Pomefiore Vice-Housewarden ;; Third Year
Oh, Rook does not care. He genuinely thinks that your cooking is beautiful and wonderful in every single way possible.
He will eat your food and compliment you even if you put whole-ass children's toys in your food.
He'll buy you whatever you need for your cooking without you even need to ask him, he's kind of a freak like that.
Epel Felmier ;; Pomefiore ;; First Year
Epel is very in the middle, he's fine with your bad cooking just.... don't make him eat it because he will act like a toddler having to eat vegetables.
Or, that's what he says he won't do.
He says he'll be all manly and eat it like a man, but you know for a fact that he won't and he will act like a little kid.
Ignihyde
Idia Shroud ;; Ignihyde Housewarden ;; Third Year
Idia barely eats as it is, so when you bring him food, his hair will immediately turn pink and he'll try to hide his face by tightening his hood over his head.
He won't care whether it's bad or good, he'll only care about the fact that you actually... brought him food.
Of course, Ortho does so all the time, but it's different when your significant other brings you a whole meal because they don't want you to starve.
Once again, he doesn't care whether it's good or bad, he'll shove it down his throat either way.
Ortho Shroud ;; Ignihyde ;; First Year
Ortho can't exactly eat, given that he's both a robot and a machine.
But he'll look up recipes and help you cook and help you get as best and as good as you can get.
He'll always help, and use every single upgrade he's ever got put into him by his big brother to help you cook as best as you can.
Diasomnia
Malleus Draconia ;; Diasomnia Housewarden ;; Third Year
Oh, boy. Malleus is scared that he has another Lilia on his hands. Of course, your food is not as bad as Lilia's, but it's still not, for lack of a better word, good.
He will eat it, but he'll compliment and praise your cooking in a very... odd way.
He'll compliment you, yes. But he'll also add in some, not-so-subtle ways you can improve.
Don't tell him, he genuinely thinks his attempts at helping are extremely subtle, when they are absolutely not.
Lilia Vanrouge ;; Diasomnia Vice-Housewarden ;; Third Year
Lilia, like Rook, Kalim, and Deuce, won't even notice that your food is bad.
And that is mostly because he, himself is a bad chef.
He's such a bad chef he can't even tell when foods are actually bad.
Even if he could tell that your food was not good, he still wouldn't care because he just loves you far, far too much to even think of pointing it out.
Silver Vanrouge ;; Diasomnia ;; Second Year
Silver is internally sobbing. First, his Father, and now, his significant other.
He's very sweet about telling you ways you can improve.
He actually does this with his father, too. But you're the only one who picks up on it, Lilia, sadly, does not.
Silver tries his absolute hardest to help, but he eventually succumbs to his sleep, but he always profusely apologizes afterward.
Sebek Zigvolt ;; Diasomnia ;; First Year
Sebek is oddly much sweeter about it than you'd ever expect.
He doesn't yell, but he does let you know that it doesn't taste good.
He explains ways you can fix it, despite he himself not knowing how to cook all that well.
He explains everything he knows about cooking to try and help you.
If Sebek manages to view a human as a significant other, or partner, he will dote on your every need or want in the sweetest way that you'd never, ever expect from him.
He's very sweet as he helps you cook, making sure that you do everything to the best of your genuine ability.

why tua s1 is a masterpiece and 2-4 give me a migraine
i gotta use my english degree for something so lets talk about it
iâd like to note beforehand, that iâve only seen about half of season 4. but given everything iâve heard about it, iâve decided to avoid watching it for my own mental wellbeing. i really havenât enjoyed the last three seasons much, mostly iâve been dredging through because of how much i love season 1. it feels painfully like seasons 1 and seasons 2-4 are for completely different fucking showsâparticularly in tone.
i think tua season 1 attracted attention to its unique themes that are lost in the rest of the series. the primary themes are of trauma and dysfunctional family dynamics. itâs a story about seven severely abused siblings learning to cope with their trauma and reconnect as adults. season 1âs tone is somber. it shows us glimpses of the charactersâ childhoods, and how it affects them in their adult lives. the characters in season 1 were, most importantly, flawed! they were assholes, because trauma turns people into assholes sometimes!Â
you can directly trace back the siblingsâ character flaws to the shit reggie put them through. Luther was the golden boy, which put too much responsibility on his shoulders and isolated him from his siblings. As a result, Luther is ultra-loyal to his dead father, in obvious denial of the abuse he endured because he was never able to form an identity for himself outside of reggie and the academy! he is the only one that never moved on. and then reggie turned luther into (for lack of a better term) a giant monkey without his consent, causing him to hate himself and even further alienate himself from the rest of the world.Â
diego never left the ânumber 2â headspace. he fights with luther even into adulthood. despite how much he claims to hate his father, he became a vigilante likely as an effort to finally be good enough for his dad. and lets not forget (unlike the writers) about his stutterâsomething that formed in childhood and came back as an adult when he was triggered with memories of his childhood. heâs inherently defensive because reginald pit the siblings against one another constantly.
allison is a narcissistâthough, when we meet her in season 1, sheâs more of a narcissist in recovery. sheâs recognized how her childhood affected her and wants to become a better person to make up for the mistakes of her past. what mistakes again? well, she used her powers on her daughter because 1. she was never told no. reggie encouraged the usage of her powers, and the household where she grew up was violent, manipulative, and competitive. she had no sense of real normalcy, so she never learned how to build a happy, healthy family for her daughter. to cope with her trauma, she clung to her fameâthis is shown both in adulthood and childhood flashbacksâleading her to become a movie star, and not accept her own faults.
klaus, well, klaus is the most obvious example of trauma. mostly due to reggie forcing his powers on him when he was a young childhood. locking him in a mausoleum for hours on end. he became a drug addict as a result. living on the streets, in and out of rehab, and stealing for money. we see him struggle constantly throughout season 1âthrough his interactions with ghosts (when its very possible he wouldnât have developed such a fear of them if it werenât for reggie), with flashbacks to his childhood and (later) to the vietnam war. his inability to take things seriously and his self-destructive behavior are both coping mechanisms. his siblings donât trust him because of his lying and kleptomaniac tendencies.
five is a character whose development is utterly abandoned after season 1. he was only thirteen years old when he accidentally travelled in time to the apocalypse, where he remained for 45 years. i remind you of this because the writers wonât. he survived those years for his family! because he felt immeasurable guilt for leaving them! he was so lonely for these years that he developed a romantic attachment to a mannequin (something only referenced for a joke in later seasons). he was in an extremely vulnerable position when he was recruited by the handler (a character who was very creepy in her own right) and he was forced to use his childhood âsuperheroâ skillset to essentially become an assassin, a job he loathed himself for. all so he could have a chance to save his family. five is cocky, sarcastic, and yes, wants to save the world, but we forget that he wanted to save his family first. he was willing to sacrifice the world if it meant saving his siblings. and even once he returns to the present, he experiences ptsd flashbacks to his time in the apocalypse. five is severely traumatized and stuck between childhood and adulthood, has lived for far too long and has done too many terrible things to be a child, but is stuck in a childs body and never got the chance to emotionally mature past the age of 13. this in no way resembles the five we get in later seasons.
in season 1, ben is a tragedy. he is the character that haunts the narrative (literally). his death was the reason the family split up. he experienced an incredibly traumatic childhood, forced to slaughter people against his will. all so that he could die tragically young (weâll get into his cause of death later). heâs stuck following klaus around for years, unable to interact with anyone else. he watched his brother deteriorate in front of him with no way to help. heâs angry about his death and sometimes takes out his frustrations on klaus. but at the same time, he was âthe kindestâ of all the siblings. he cares deeply about his family, but canât do anything about it.
i think itâs easy to forget that the initial focus of the show was viktor. viktor, who was told how unremarkable he was again and again. who was isolated not just from the world but from his own family as well. who was drugged up from an incredibly young age and forced to ignore his emotions. yes, the umbrella academy was abusive. but being isolated from his siblings was just another form of abuse. he grew up to resent his family on a lot of levels, writing his book as a method to vent his frustrations but only ended up in driving his siblings further away. viktor went through a lot of shit in season 1, and resulted in him ending the world. but did his family kill him? no. because that was the point of the entire show. that despite their trauma and how much they might resent one another, the siblings still loved each other more than the rest of the world put together.Â
everything ive outlined are the elements that make up season 1, and are almost entirely forgotten about later. but by losing the integrity of the characters, they lost the narrative. the point of the umbrella academy was never saving the worldâit was about a broken family reconciling with one another despite everything. these points of trauma are taken seriously. it was the complexity of these characters, at least in my opinion, that attracted attention towards them. and sure, we didnât love every character all the time. remember how much luther was hated in season 1? but itâs because he was realistic. these characters, and the shit they went through, werenât a joke. and the season ended off in a way that forshadowed these elements being explored more in depth. remember how it ended?
with the seven siblings holding hands as the world exploded around them. and for only a few seconds, we saw them transform back into their child selves.
now, this plot point (whatever it might have been) was instantly cancelled and forgotten about in season 2. but it really makes you think about the season we could have gotten: the characters being forced back into their childhood, having to confront the root of their trauma and essentially, all their problems. they could look back at what happened to them with a mature perspective and worked through it, realizing that they were not each otherâs enemies. they could have made up for lost time, helped eachother heal, and ultimately prevent the apocalpyse by being family. you know, something that would have actually wrapped up the narrative nicely.
so, what happened?
the shows original themes of trauma, and repentance, and family were abandoned in favor of humor and spectacle. it seems like the creators misinterpreted what made the first season so successful. sure, the first season had a lot of funny moments and great fight scenes. but it was the emotional depth and complexity that made the show what it was. but worse than that, it continued to spit in the faces of the characters trauma, downplaying it in almost every way possible.
klausâ relapses were played for comedy. his fear of ghosts was drastically downplayed with the use of cartoonish ghost-buster ass looking ghosts. fiveâs ptsd was never acknowledged again; his coping mechanism, dolores, became a joke. luther lost all character complexity entirely, instead becoming a himbo (who we love, but, still). viktor rarely brought up the feelings from his childhood, and nobody acknowledged his tell-all book again.
one of the things that infuriated me the most was the incorporation of reginald in later seasons. lets remind ourselves of some things: he purchased seven children, treated them like objects without names, trained them tirelessly and deprived them of a childhood, traumatized them by turning them into murderers, pitted them against one another, and literally tortured them. and thatâs only the things we see him do on screen. you cannot convince me for a second that any of the siblings would ever be able to be the same room as that man without having serious flashbacks. I donât believe for one second that theyâd work with him, trust him, or empathize with him in any capacity (except maybe luther) except they do, consistently. even five, who is easily the smartest member of the academy, and extremely protective of his siblings.
and- LEST WE FUCKING DISREGARD- reginald MURDERED ben.
the moment that happened on screen felt like the last shovel of dirt on tua 1âs grave. supposedly all the siblings REMEMBERED this incident in seasons 1-3. and yet they went to their fathers funeral, spoke to him (relatively) civilly, and teamed up with him after seeing for themselves their father shoot their brother in the back of the head for seemingly no reason. not only did they apparently not hold this against their father, but they never mentioned it once in three seasons.
and yes, i know, there is a very simple reason for this. it was obviously made up at the last moment for plot convenience. but the implications for this being retconned in are damning for the characters. by writing this in, the writers decided that the siblings commitment to one another is meaningless. that the foundations upon which this show was created, are fucking meaningless. they threw away not only the individual complexity of each character, but also their relationship as a family.

Complaints about Senna Series
Maybe more than anyone else, Iâve been hyping the Senna series up on here these past few months, partly out of genuine excitement, partly because of my small (big) pre-existing crush on Gabriel Leone (if youâve watched Dom you get it).
But the trailer has left me so disappointed in what is to come.
It seems that rather than build Ayrton as the fascinating, believable, mixed man that he was in real life, the show has chosen to portray him as a saint of a figure, who can do no wrong, and had the whole world turned against him. Likely this is due to Sennaâs ongoing meddling and frankly, disgustingly controlling family, who even thirty years after Ayrtonâs passing, still have a tight grip over his life and media presence, but by doing so with this show, I think theyâve let down not only Ayrton, but everyone else too.
Lets start with the obvious- Alain.
Already the show has been insinuating that Alain is the evil driver, the âbaddieâ that Ayrtonâs character must defeat to win the championships. While obviously, the Senna Prost rivalry is famed for its intensity and hatred, and itâd be impossible to show Ayrtonâs life without it, I believe the show has gone about it the wrong way. Ayrton was by no means innocent in this rivalry as they are portraying- in fact, with his abusive driving style, and bad attitude towards Prost off track, it could be argued he was the main insinuator.
I think itâs disrespectful to Alain, who now, can only speak well of Ayrton and the relationship they had, to portray him as âevilâ as it seems this show is going to do. The fact is they were both as bad as each other, but they also needed each other in order to better themselves. It breaks my heart to think now, thirty years on, Alain may watch this show and once again be put down and hated on when he clearly has expressed nothing but love, admiration and grief towards Ayrton.
I also think this show will likely be disrespectful to the memories of drivers such as Elio. Elio whoâs not even been cast in this show, when he was Ayrtonâs team mate for a whole year! Just because he didnât win three championships, does that mean his memory, his life have any less meaning than Ayrtonâs? Of course not. It is wrong just to forget him, especially when Ayrton behaved in such a bratty way towards him.
Finally I think this show has most importantly let Ayrton down. The whole reason I relate to him, and respect him, was because he was a flawed man. He was a man driven half insane by his own talent, by his own intensity, and by his own need to win. Himself and his controlling family pushed him so hard, put so many pressures on him, he found it impossible to connect with the people he needed most (like Alain) in fear that it would make him less of a driver. He struggled with self happiness, said so multiple times, clearly had difficulties in many other areas of life, and yet despite all of this, not only turned out to be a brilliant driver, but also a good man as well, who raised hundreds of thousands of children in Brasil. Ayrton is a story of no matter what, never giving up, and battling your own demons to make it where you want to be. And I personally donât see any way so far in which this show portrays this message.
It is my hope that I am wrong about all this. Maybe this show will turn out to be a good memorial of a good man. But likely it is the âDrive to Survive-ificationâ of a beautiful story turned bad for a quick buck.
#sound off in the comments#does anyone have anything else to say?#i know i slammed ayrton but you all know i love him#ayrton senna#classic f1#alain prost#prosenna#senna series

y'know what, I think it's kind of interesting to bring up Data from Star Trek in the context of the current debates about AI. like especially if you actually are familiar with the subplot about Data investigating art and creativity.
see, Data can definitely do what the AI programs going around these days can. better than, but that's beside the point, obviously. he's a sci-fi/fantasy android. but anyway, in the story, Data can perfectly replicate any painting or stitch a beautiful quilt or write a poem. he can write programs for himself that introduce variables that make things more "flawed", that imitate the particular style of an artist, he can choose to either perfectly replicate a particular sort of music or to try and create a more "human" sounding imitation that has irregular errors and mimics effort or strain. the latter is harder for him that just copying, the same way it's more complicated to have an algorithm that creates believable "original" art vs something that just duplicates whatever you give it.
but this is not the issue with Data. when Data imitates art, he himself knows that he's not really creating, he's just using his computer brain to copy things that humans have done. it's actually a source of deep personal introspection for the character, that he believes being able to create art would bring him closer to humanity, but he's not sure if he actually can.
of course, Data is a person. he's a person who is not biological, but he's still a person, and this is really obvious from go. there's no one thing that can be pointed to as the smoking gun for Data's personhood, but that's normal and also true of everyone else. Data's the culmination of a multitude of elements required to make a guy. Asking if this or that one thing is what makes Data a person is like asking if it's the flour or the eggs that make a cake.
the question of whether or not Data can create art is intrinsically tied to the question of whether or not Data can qualify as an artist. can he, like a human, take on inspiration and cultivate desirable influences in order to produce something that reflects his view on the world?
yes, he can. because he has a view on the world.
but that's the thing about the generative AI we are dealing with in the real world. that's not like Data. despite being referred to as "AI", these are algorithms that have been trained to recognize and imitate patterns. they have no perspective. the people who DO have a perspective, the humans inputting prompts, are trying to circumvent the whole part of the artistic process where they actually develop skills and create things themselves. they're not doing what Data did, in fact they're doing the opposite -- instead of exploring their own ability to create art despite their personal limitations, they are abandoning it. the data sets aren't like someone looking at a painting and taking inspiration from it, because the machine can't be inspired and the prompter isn't filtering inspiration through the necessary medium of their perspective.
Data would be very confused as to the motives and desires involved, especially since most people are not inhibited from developing at least SOME sort of artistic skill for the sake self-expression. he'd probably start researching the history of plagiarism and different cultural, historical, and legal standards for differentiating it from acceptable levels of artistic imitation, and how the use of various tools factored into it. he would cite examples of cultures where computer programming itself was considered a form of art, and court cases where rulings were made for or against examples of generative plagiarism, and cases of forgeries and imitations which required skill as good if not better than the artists who created the originals. then Geordi would suggest that maybe Data was a little bit annoyed that people who could make art in a way he can't would discount that ability. Data would be like "as a machine I do not experience annoyance" but he would allow that he was perplexed or struggling to gain internal consensus on the matter. so Geordi would sum it up with "sometimes people want to make things easy, and they aren't always good at recognizing when doing that defeats the whole idea" and Data would quirk his head thoughtfully and agree.
then they'd get back to modifying the warp core so they could escape some sentient space anomaly that had sucked the ship into intermediate space and was slowly destabilizing the hull, or whatever.
anyways, point is -- I don't think Data from Star Trek would be a big fan of AI art.

What do you think Ares/Mars was talking about in SoN when he told frank to stop percy from acting on his fatal flaw??
anon, i love talking abt loyalty as a flaw
so, disclaimer: the âpercy needs to learn to step back/let other ppl be the heroâ narrative sucks. this was rickâs intention, but it sucks. the way rick set up the initial conflict is his main problem and why this foreshadowing fell flat.
hereâs what mars said:
cool story, butâŠthis isnât a flaw percy has. at least, not the way itâs used. rick doesnât establish any character of the seven to be willing to ignore one of their friends if theyâre in danger, so thereâs no way to make that a unique conflict (altho this would be a viable option if the other characters were rewritten). that leaves what rick wrote, which is percy not wanting to let the lost trio fight gaea alone, and thatâŠdoesnât work without bastardizing pjo.
weâll get back to that.
here's the big scene:
which. lmao. lmfao even.
and hereâs the scene in boo where rick tries to spell out what the problem is for ~foreshadowing~ :
this doesn't work. rick tries to conflate âi donât run when my friends need meâ w âbeing unable to step awayâ or allow someone else to be the hero. those are not the same thing! percyâs whole thing in the previous series is that he isnât the hero! he knows this. it's one of the most obvious themes in the previous series. which is part of what i mean by bastardizing pjo, but it's not all. again, we'll get back to that.
percy doesnât ignore cries for help, but thatâs not the same as being unable to step back.
and, going back to what i first said, name one character who would be like yeah! iâll pack it all up w my gf! the closest any character gets to this is piper, but thatâs a tangent i wonât go on bc itâs not done well enough for it to be worth adding tension. the point is this isn't a trait any character is established to have, including frank, who is the one chastising percy! it doesnât make sense for percyâs character anyway bc heâs loyal to more than just annabeth (shocking, i know), so this wouldnât be a good ending for him regardless. heâs not actually being offered something he wants.
the scene percy references w juno actually does a better job of highlighting the conflict w percyâs loyalty: either percy can run to the seaâwhere âno monster would bother [him]. [he] could begin a new life, live to a ripe old age, and escape a great deal of pain and miseryââor he could go to camp jupiter where pain and misery awaits him. and percy genuinely considers his options. if percy can't give his friends up for anything, what does that mean for him?
bc itâs percyâs freedom thatâs at odds w his loyalty. his loyalty is not controlling or possessive of other ppl. which brings me back to bastardizing pjo.
an important, but more subtle, theme throughout all of pjo is autonomy (it goes hand-in-hand w the constant theme of yielding, which again i talk abt here). this theme is especially important bc pjo is abt disability (thatâs why all of the demigods are disabled). one of the first things ppl try to take away from u when ur disabled is ur autonomy. the fact that percy vehemently defends it not just for himself but for others is essential to the narrative. it's why he's the leader, it's why he's the protagonist, it's why there is a callback to it in every pjo book. trying to act like he wouldn't respect someone's autonomy and would try to shoehorn his way into their fight and need to be chastised into respecting their autonomy in a heavily foreshadowed moment that is supposed to be the penultimate conflict of percy's character is a bastardization of this entire theme.
this conflict doesnât work.
(percy art cred)
anyway. letâs keep the concept but make it actually work for percyâs character. i already talked abt percy's freedom vs loyalty, but another good place to start is w how percy becomes loyal to someone. thereâs two main ways.
the first is empathy. if percy empathizes w someone, heâs loyal to them. percy can empathize w almost anyone, including but not limited to clarisse, the girl who bullied him, polyphemus, a cyclops that tried to kill him and his friends, and luke, someone who betrayed him.
this loyalty means that percy will defend them (even if it means fighting w someone else heâs loyal to eg tyson and annabeth), have a difficult time fighting them (especially in regards to harming them eg polyphemus), and consider their feelings in his plans (which is why heâs a good mediator, but it also causes indecision and infighting eg point one). this is already good set up for conflict for self-explanatory reasons, but iâll give some elaboration later.
the second is kindness. if someone is kind to him, percy is loyal to them. thereâs many examples of this, but i think the best is quintus.
percy feels bad abt being suspiciousâdespite having plenty of reasons to be (the similarities to luke as he says here, the fact that juniper says quintus was poking around the labyrinth, etc)âbc quintus was being kind to him. and if that wasnât enough, percy says that he wonât use the whistle quintus gives him, but later makes an entire escape plan revolving around it.
percy tries to override his loyalty w reason and it literally doesnât work (it goes hand-in-hand w percy being unable to see betrayal, even when itâs spelled out). if quintus had ulterior motives, percy wouldâve been fucked.
side note, something i find interesting abt this is that percy is aware enough that he doesn't tell other ppl abt the whistle. it's like suspecting/trusting quintus is something shameful percy is trying to hide, which is interesting to think abt for potential conflict bc nobody can help percy if he doesn't tell them anything.
another pertinent example is percyâs first interactions w frank. percy takes frank helping him against the gorgons as an act of kindness and, bc of that, percy assumes the best of frank:
the thing is, percy is wrong abt frank.
frank wasnât thinking of percy when he pocketed those vials. and if percy hadnât seen frank pocket the vials, would frank have even told percy they existed?
this is a great example of how to use different povs to build tension,âhoo does not use this well or often despite having nine povsâbut it could also be used as a red herring for percyâs loyalty. in this case, percyâs optimistic perspective inspired frank. percyâs loyalty doesnât come off as a threat, so when the reverse happens, ie percyâs optimism fucks him over, it comes as a surprise despite being foreshadowed.
essentially, thereâs a lot of room for conflict. percyâs loyalty includes a wide breadth of ppl and can grow very quickly, which leaves a lot of room for contradicting needs. the person percy chooses isnât a given. the answer is not annabeth (like hoo keeps insisting it is). even in tlt, when percy has to leave his mother behind, itâs a difficult choice for him. he described his heart as âbeing ripped in twoâ bc everyone in the situation had his loyalty, his mother, grover, annabeth, even his father. ultimately, the deciding factor was what he thought his mother would want him to do (which is interesting bc itâs not what sally would do given her reaction to percy in tlo, but bc sally is kind and selfless towards percy, he thinks sheâs universally kind and selfless. *points to the section on kindness* another side effect of this). and itâs also bolstered by the fact that percy knows he can get sally back. heâs not losing her forever, heâs losing her for right now.
so what happens when the stakes are higher? what happens when percy isnât sure which side heâs on? nico says percy is dangerous to his enemies. what makes someone percyâs enemy? letâs use this, letâs make this conflict bigger, letâs encase the narrative in it.
really easy ways to do this include grover and/or calypso. the series is based on fighting gaea, mother earth, and grover is a satyr who is named lord of the wild by pan right before pan fades. furthermore, percy and grover have a soul bond thatâs in part bc of percyâs own connection to nature. and even more than that, nature spirits were among the highest casualties in the previous war. thatâs a series of wild connections to have unexplored in the series.
also, gaea has a vested interest in percy. she kills one of her own men to save percy's life, she tries to kidnap him twice, juno says part of the reason she puts percy in a coma is bc it would've been too difficult to hide him from gaea's forces otherwise, and the reason is...so that percy can have a bloody nose? ok.
w calypso, rick writes this entire plotline where sheâs still trapped on her island (for some reason), but this is only relevant so that leo can get a gf. how abt gaea gets her off the island and she fights for gaea? what then? what does percy do? how do calypsoâs motivations change how percy sees the other side?
these are sacrifices percy wouldnât want to make. he doesnât want to kill either of these ppl, so what would he do instead? what does that mean for everyone else?
another option is a cry for help. while percyâs loyalty has never manifested as is refusing to let someone make decisions for themselvesâeven if that includes self sacrificeâpercy does stick up for the underdogs.
a perfect example of foreshadowing using this flaw couldâve been the creatures in phorcyâs aquarium. instead, some random fish-centaurs solve the problem. boo! lame! where is percyâs inner torment as he tries to juggle his responsibilities w his feelings! where is percy tearing the group apart as he tries to fix a problem no one else cares abt! there is a ship full of ppl who are supposed to believe in the greater good, where is the conflict as percy fights for the common man!!
like,
what an interesting thing to say in a story that has a prophecy w the line "an oath to keep w a final breath." too bad this means nothing.
(also these quotes, for good measure
percy swearing to protect hazel and frank from the gods and percy swearing on his life bc he has that much faith in annabeth, someone he's loyal to, despite knowing almost nothing abt the other ppl on the quest or how they're arriving. interesting. good thing rick doesn't explore this. <- sarcasm btw)
this would be a perfect way to introduce a sacrifice percy wouldnât be able to make. just like w percy jeopardizing his mission in tlo by warning the kids on the boat and making it harder on himself by trying to incapacitate but not kill other demigods. he almost dies to ethan bc he doesnât kill ethan at any of the opportunities heâs given! despite ethan chastising him for it! this is already an established flaw percy has, and the only reason it hasnât bit him in the ass is bc itâs a red herring in pjo.
and again (bc i have personal beef w this scene), the whole nico-in-a-jar thing. while percy vows to save nico, he doesn't say anything when leo and jason argue against it. percy ripped hera a new one for excluding nico, and nico wasnât even in danger at the time. why is percy so calm abt jason and leo talking abt leaving nico to die?! this is exactly the sort of situation percy loses his cool abt and starts yelling and getting himself in trouble. why is he calm??? where is his anger????? it really shouldâve come down to âweâre saving nico with or without yâallâ in a true showing of tearing the group apart.
how many traps is percy willing to walk into bc someone needs help? how much can he jeopardize the quest before someone else has to intervene? when does loyalty cross the line from something admirable into a flaw?
ofc all of these potential conflicts would hold more weight if percy was in character and written as the glue of the argo ii. these moments happen at the beginning of their quest, when theyâre supposed to be bonding and building trust. what happens when ur mediator loses their cool? nothing good!
similarly, there shouldâve been way more internal fighting on the argo ii, especially after percy fell into tartarus. i want the blame game, the instability over nico (and what having 8 people for a 7 person quest means), the greek vs roman, lack of sleep, stress, guilt, all of it to come to a head and jeopardize the entire quest. if the greeks and romans had to be separated bc it was too dangerous for them to be together, i want to see why. i want to know why juno thought it was so important that percy be the glue. i want to foreshadow why percy making the wrong choice can tear the world apart. it also helps frank and hazelâs plotlines, as well, bc their stepping up feels more important and has a bigger pay off.
as it's written, there's barely any conflict, frank feels comfortable confiding in annabeth for no reason, the girls are all friends bc #girl power, there's random love triangles everywhere, annabeth and jason are said to have a rivalry but never actually shown to have one, and the biggest fight is when percy and jason are possessed.
this complete lack of foreshadowing amalgamates in booâs failure. rick failed to use percyâs actual flaws to establish the threat of this choice but still needed the conflict, so percy has to be out of character and the conflict has to be contrived.
#if percy fatal flaw loyalty has a million lovers i am on of them if percy fatal flaw loyalty has no lovers i am dead etc#this is half character analysis and half an essay on why hoo sucks#percy jackson#percy#hoo crit#rr crit#answered#min talks pjo#let's pretend i answered this ask in a timely manner i cannot believe it's from may. where has the year gone

wyll, in my opinion, gets the standard fare treatment for characters that are unequivocally good. i.e. people think he's boring and uninteresting. standard fare might be kind actually given the level of racism and unexplained slander (which is often just more thinly veiled racism). his reputation about being boring is not helped by the very blatant neglect of his storyline post his rewrite and release. as a wyll enjoyer i am hyperaware of the sorry state of his current story in all three acts
despite all of that and the glaring flaws - i still believe that wylls storyline is worth of being engaged with and explored.
one of the reasons (not the most major one, but one) i think wyll experiences so much neglect as a companion stems from a wider idea that "goodness" is always the uncomplicated, easy choice.
it's something i see a lot. wyll is boring because of his archetype as a princely and universally righteous guy. and this is interesting, because it always seems to functions under the assumption that wylls moral character is innate. that his heroic and righteous actions are in some capacity, uncomplicated.
uniquely among the male origin companions, through the course of wylls story - there is never a point in which he is at risk of making a truly 'bad' choice. both gale and astarions story have them at risk of making choices that are ultimately bad for them and others (especially tav when each character is romanced). gales godhood and astarions ascension are their in game moral failings. they are the result of having not broke the cycle and are 'bad' choices for the individual character.
wylls main choice is however his pact and the choice to break that pact. notably - wyll is never at risk of making a bad choice, only a selfish one.
from the critique i see of wyll - it seems like this is the element of him people find most egregious. he's too smooth, not rugged enough, not gritty enough. but i don't think wyll's character needs grit, necessarily.
if you take any time to dissect wyll at all, based on dialogue and character interaction, many of his choices put himself at the forefront of sacrifice. the game strips wyll of a lot of agency, but wyll also always abides by and sticks to his core belief. so often towards his own detriment.
not only does wyll bear the consequence of being turned into a devil (stripping him of the last remaining shred of identity he's ever had and one of the most important things in his life), he bore the burden of being banished when he made his pact, and was willing to do the same for the sake of his father when he is taken to moonrise.
and unlike gale (who i adore, to be clear) who's concept of self-sacrifice stems mostly from a low self-worth - the belief that dying is the best he can do - wyll truly views that it's better him than them.
wyll does not think twice about allowing himself to be the one to take the fall. he can play any part, take any role, even when these choices haunt him so obviously. wyll claims that he forgives his father, but opens up to you about fearing his feelings of missing him are one-sided. he believes that making his pact was the right choice, the one he would make again - but doesn't deny the obvious pain and solace that came along with being a wandering traveler and banished son.
wylls goodness is so deliberate. he is so staunch in upholding and acting on his beliefs that it is always narrative to his own detriment. when you view wyll like this , and view his choices with regards this character attribute, it is imo very hard to hate him.
wyll's goodness is his double edged sword. it makes him heroic, brave, fearless. and it makes him scared, uncertain and lonely. again, the story itself is bare bones and i understand that - but it is so very beautiful to me thinking of him and tav or just his general romance.
as wylls romance partner, encouraging wyll to break his pact is as tragic as it very beautiful. tav is wylls one selfish thing. one of the only reasons that would move him to not give himself up. one of the only reasons he is okay with forgoing his beliefs. he loves tav enough to break his own oaths, and make choices for himself and no one else. not as the blade, or as a ravengard - but just as wyll.
and that aspect of him is in my opinion, enforced, by the mindflayer tav ending. in which wylls monster-hunting and morals are made exceptions with / for tav. my enjoyment of hero corruption might be speaking for me, but i digress.
in every way though - i truly love wyll as a character. and while im well aware of the critical flaws in his in game story state, i think it's both unfortunate and unfair that people call him boring. to me he is anything but
#aristotle.txt#wyll ravengard#bg3#wyll meta#bg3 wyll#wyll x tav#he is so love of my life coded#this is my experience as a deku defending and lover speaking for me i fear

Man I wish your MHA prediction came true, cause, no spoilers, but the truth is so badđ
atleast its finallly over... never reading a series when it hasnt finished serialisation againđ
It's not even a BAD manga ending... i have seen BAD manga endings before, i know how they look like.
No, what MHA's final chapter is, is a NOTHING Ending. An ending where it is so, PAINFULLY obvious that the Mangaka or his editor did not want to piss anyone off, or take risks in general, that for a whole host of characters, there is NO closure, or even worse, it negates what came before.
so, its not like there is nothing good about the chapter, as i like shoji's big declaration, and the fact that japans society is changing to help people deal with the quirks withouth having to become heroes... but other than that, even the stuff i liked had major caveats.
But by far the biggest issue is that there are so many characters who got NO closure for their respective relationships, and it is stupidly obvious why, and who.
and since this question was prompted by Aizawa and his development, lets start with mic and Aizawa.
This picture right here encapsulates how Aizawa has changed. This is where he was always planned to end up. It is his natural end point compared to where he started off his story. Having turned into a much more caring man, who helped Aoyama rise above his flaws and change for the better rather than the brutal and spartan teacher he was at the start.
Or as his Ex Girlfriend would have put it has learned the value of "A household where the laughter never ends.".
However, the problem is we get no chapter, or even an ATTEMPT at giving him any form of closure where this change is encapsulated, the way we got with Endeavor, spinner, and Uraraka.
And thats a problem, because it wasnt ONLY hjis character who was tied to this hypotetical chapter for closure.
The closure of the ENTIRE idiot trio from the previous generation, alive and dead was dependent upon whatever Hori had planned for this hypotetical epilogue chapter before he or his editor chickened out, leaving Kurogiri's death in the climax with NO sense of aftermath behind it, coming and going, and frankly feeling like an aftertought rather than the sad ending to the tragic tale of the man who died too soon.
It also leaves Mic the single worst off, because while Aizawa at the very least had his character development to fall back on as a final point, even if he didnt get a closure chapter or moment, Mic gets NOTHING.
and that's a big problem, because as im going to go over in my big analysis of the man, Mic's entire deal is that while Aizawa developed in a terrible, negative reaction to his buddy's death, Mic's reaction was to stop developing at all.
His entire life after the tragedy is being a background character in everyone else's life, the DJ who always tries to make everyones day brighter, but has no actual ambitions, dreams or goals of his own.
thats why he clings so desperately to his memories of highschool, because unlike everyone else from that time, those memories are all he has. Even Aizawa managed to have a girlfriend at some point, an actual relationship, that though it crashed and burned had meaning. Mic doesnt even have that.
He is the ultimate sad clown, who pretends to himself that he hasnt wasted his life, by embracing a role as a literal supporting character, that his teachers suggested he would turn out to be.
In other words, his role in a chapter dealing with the epilogue of the trio, would certainly have been to finally, actually begin living his own life again.
but withouth that, there is nothing to suggest he managed to change. he will just continue to waste his life, thinking he'll never be able to create great new times for himself, rather than actually living his life and making new, best moments of his life.
i might be more annoyed about Aizawa not getting that final closure with Miss Joke, but there is no questions that Mic got an even worse deal with the narrative than Aizawa.
He remained a background character to the very end.
he's not the only one though.
You know who else never got closure? The Iida brothers.
We NEVER got to see how Tensei reacted to his brother not only taking up his mantle, but actually surpassing him and all his deeds during the climax.
Tenya's great ambition was to become a great hero to live up to his brother, and we didnt get to see any of his family members reaction to him actually achieving this dream.
As for other members of class 1-A...
Hey, quick question for anyone who read this story, Did you think Mina and Kirishima's character stories ended with these two, small, not given very much importance panels?
No?
Well fuck you, youre wrong! this is where both of their characters ends. their relationship, and their character arcs in general ended here, and they get no closure whatsoever.
and finally we move unto Izuku and the bigger problem with him and where he ended up.
Starting with him becoming a non powered hero, using tech.
Okay, not a BAD ending... But i feel like... maybe... there was a plan for something with that. Maybe... Maybe something that happened, and would have eased his character into using tech, rather than All Might just showing up with it after he's been a salary man for 3 years... Maybe something that was foreshadowed for years, and years.... Oh right.
Izuku losing his lower arms.
Like, looking back, it is painfully clear that Izuku was originally meant to lose his arms for good, before the editor(as he did with bakugo's death) put the kibash on that.
I like the idea... but there was a much better and more logical road to him becoming Iron Man with him having to use robotic hands in the epilogue. it would also be the logical outcome of all that foreshadowing, and was probably the original idea before it was deemed too gruesome.
However, thats a missed what if.
And if you have read the final chapter, you know it's not the BIG issue with this chapter. The SINGLE biggest problem with this ending, that is going to haunt it forever afterwards.
The complete sinking of Izuku x ochako by making it clear izuku has no regular contact with his former classmates, and ending the story withouth anything to suggest these two hooked up at all.
Now, im going to be very blunt, and very clear, before i tear this entire ship sinking to bits.
I didn't like Izuku x ochako.
At all.
I thought it was boring, too drawn out, and i didnt find much enjoyment as a ship from their interactions. in fact i would say i found izuku to have better chemistry with pretty much every other female character he ever interacted with.
Izuocha is the epitomy of a safe shonen battle couple. pure, boring vanilla.
I want to get that out of the way, before i really delve into why the way Hori just... torpedoed this ship because he didnt want to deal with the aftermath, was such a slap in the face.
Lets start with the most obvious problem.
It was all a waste of time.
every single moment of shiptease, and uraraka pining after izuku...
was one...
gigiantic...
Waste of fucking time.
I didnt like reading about this couple. But i cannot make the claim the story was not building up towards it.
it spent the vast majority of it's story building towards this couple, and in the last 3 chapters it devoted two of them to seemingly resolving this couple's story, and setting up for the next step... that never fucking came.
meaning that every little bit of ship tease these two had was a joke, a waste of time, it didnt mean anything in the grand scheme of things.
It was one of the most annoying parts of this manga to read through, and to my absolute fury and disguist i was fucking -vindicated.
It was an objective, waste of fucking time that could have been devoted to ANYTHING ELSE! It could have been devoted to another, better pairing, more character development for 1-A, Inko, the league of Villains, ANYTHING!
If the story was not going to end up with these two, there were plenty of ways to do that too, like having Uraraka's decision not to confess backfire as izuku moved on and hooked up with Mei, or melissa, or anyone else! or maybe just have izuku have moved past her an her ending up being friendzoned because she didnt make a move early enough! Or maybe have Uraraka realize she was gay after everything with Toga!
Again, ANYTHING ELSE would have been preferable.
instead, even at the very end, even when the following pages kills the pairing dead, Hori STILL tries to shipbait these two!
fuck off.
2. Making Urarak look shallow through the worst fucking timing in the world.
so, here is a question for you.
if you were going to ultimately choose not to go through with izuku x ochako, when would be the worst, possible timing to do it?
because i sure cant think of any point worse, than during a timeskip, where izuku's quirk ultimately went away, leaving him powerless and a common working man for 3 years afterwards.
Now this is obviously not meant to be the actual reason in universe for why this pairing didnt happen... but the implication is there...
And it wouldnt have been, if Hori had actually had Izuku turn her down in one of the previous chapters.
but because he decided to chicken out of any and all romance to not get any shipper blowback, through the safest way possible, it's there.
It's ugly, and it's cruel, and it's mostly implication... but it is there.
3. It makes Uraraka's entire character growth with Toga WASTED.
So Toga's part of her and Uraraka's storyline is obvious.
The girl who was looking for someone, anyone who would want to understand her finally found somebody who would, and she decided to give it all for that person.
in uraraka, she finally got what she could not get in the league, amongst her old friends, or anyone else.
No the problem is not with that side of their shared development.
The problem with this is that it completely wastes Uraraka's side of this equation.
The thing that Uraraka envied about Toga, was her ability to smile as she wanted, uncaring about how the world might think of her, something the shy uraraka deeply wished she could do too.
Ultimately, as presented in the final war arc, her develoment from this relationship was her finally learning to be honest, to embrace doing what she wanted to do.
She wanted to reach out a genuine hand in compassion to Toga despite EVERYTHING, and so she did. uncaring about what the world might have thought.
FInally she could be who she wanted to be. the girl who had been defined so long about keeping her love and more emberassing feelings under wrap no longer cared about being judged for them.
It's a very beautiful moment.
Man... It sure would SUCK if later uraraka completely backtracked, was never able to tell her crush her actual feelings, and instead it went absolutely nowhere, meaning she reverted back to the same person she had always been. that she never really grew past this flaw of herself she disliked.
That would really, really suck, and cheapen her entire character climax from the final war arc.
Man, that would suck.
It would suck even more, if the reason that happened, was due to the author not wanting to piss off the shippers that shipped the target of her affection with his former abuser and bully who tried to get him to kill himself.
This was a terrible way to end the series, not due to directly sucking, the way Attack on Titan, or bleach's endings did... but instead due to committing SO HARD to resolving NOTHING, that it flipped all the way around to being INFURIATING in how much it REFUSED to give ANY character who's final resolution would probably have involved shipping, that its pisses you off, because it means that everything that these characters were building towards had no resolution.
The only real exception was Iida, and in his case its just obviously clear that Hori just did not care to give him a climax. for everyone else though?
Hori's decision to not wanting to go through what Kishimoto went through after Naruto's final chapter might be understandable, but it also means that his already rocky final arc ended wastly lesser in quality than it could have.

Iâm curious as to your honest thoughts on the show? Like I love pjo and all but the show was a bit of a let down writing wise. Thereâs always the point of âitâs an adaptation, not a carbon copyâ like yes but this new writing isnât exemplary better than the book just because itâs rewritten by the author himself
I think the show is well-written not because Rick is attached to it, but because I actually like the way the writers are approaching adapting the source material. I have a lot of issues with the original books in terms of writing quality because frankly speaking, I donât think Rick is a very good writer. He has a lot of interesting things in those books that he never explores or drops within the first two and this fandom gives him and the books too much credit imo.
This is why Iâm not very moved when people try to ascribe meaning to a certain scene or choice he made in the books to get mad at the show for changing. As an example, one of the main things people were upset about was the kids âknowing everythingâ in the show when they were getting tricked left and right in the book. Many posts were dedicated to how the book version is superior because it illustrates how theyâre just twelve years old kids so of course theyâll make mistakes and get tricked by monsters.
Thatâs a perfectly fine interpretation but I was twelve years old when I first read tlt and I was able to anticipate almost every single trap, despite being pretty gullible and naive at that age. My knowledge of Greek mythology consisted of Disneyâs Hercules, maybe two Google searches, and my second grade teacherâs reading of the kid friendly version of the Odyssey. No where near the level of Percy whoâd been learning for a whole year in an established class on the topic with Chiron or Grover who was literally a satry born into the world or Annabeth, who spent the majority of her life dedicated to studying specifically quests and Greek mythology and was also on the run fighting monsters for a good portion of her childhood. Like twelve year olds can be dumb but those three stumbling into every trap was asking me to suspend my disbelief too far. I remember being upset that they werenât able to figure it out because it was obvious that Rick wasnât making that choice to show any personality flaws or character dynamics (because he wouldâve had them learn and grow but they never did they just kept being not smart), he just wasnât able to figure out a way for them to fall into those traps organically so he had to dumb them down.
I think the show was able to get across the charactersâ childishness without compromising their established backstories. Yes, Annabeth knew it was Medusa right away because that makes sense for a kid who has experience with running into monsters. But, she still acted very much like a child in her interactions with her (and throughout the episode and season). She lashed out and called her a liar and wouldnât listen to her side of the story because it painted her mother in a bad light. Thatâs peak twelve year old behavior.
Yes, Percy figured out Kronos was behind everything, but it makes sense because Percy knows Greek mythology and where Kronos resides. He still very much acts like a child when he asks Hades to give him back his mom in exchange for nothing because itâs the right thing to do.
There are dozens of examples like this for a lot of complaints of the show. And this is not me saying that the show is perfect: every single show has flaws. For me, I wasnât the biggest fan of the dialogue or the exposition dumping. It didnât hinder my enjoyment though because I donât think it was egregious (and wrt the exposition dumping, I expected it because the book did it and thereâs really no way to âshow not tellâ Greek myths). I also didnât like that we didnât get to really see the huge clashes between Zeus and Poseidon in the weather (we got references to it through news reports but I wouldâve liked something more). I was able to look past it because I really liked the storytelling and the themes the show was pulling out of the original source material.
I loved Medusa-Sally parallels and Medusa-Annabeth parallels. I loved the juxtaposition of Panâs quest to manifest density. I loved Percy and Annabethâs opposite trajectory in respect to their relationships with their godly parents. I loved exploring Sallyâs choice to send Percy to school instead of camp. I loved explicitly coding Annabeth as autistic. I loved Lukeâs backstory being brought earlier into the story. I loved the deadline passing and Poseidon surrendering to save Percy. I loved Persues-Andromeda and percabeth parallels. I loved fleshing Grover out. I loved glory vs home seeking being the central theme of the show.
And lastly, I was able to understand that with a limited number of episodes and run time (due to the nature of child labor laws!), they did the best they could and I feel like they did a pretty good job for a first season.
These are not ALL of my thoughts on the show because that would be a very long post. I gave one detailed example of why I think the show succeeded in something the fandom tries to ascribe the books and it was like three paragraphs lol. Anyway this is not the post to try and convince me that the show is bad for whatever reason you have cooked up. Iâm not going to change my mind and I doubt Iâll change yours. Hereâs to a season 2 that builds on a solid season 1!
