currently rotating rose red around in my brain so here's some outfits i designed for her (this is pre-meeting cinders btw)! bonus design notes under the cut :3

nude

i knew immediately that i wanted rose to be short and built like a brick shithouse. she is dense and compact and impossible to knock over. also, she gets to be a bear girl because everyone in my ouatis au is an animal eared person. its a fun concept i saw trawling the tumblr tag and i have decided it is very canon.

absolutely covered in freckles

yes those are top surgery scars. very recent in fact! its a cross between unrealized gender things and the pain of breasts that are just. too big. always.

her tail is usually too small to be seen from this angle but i wanted to show off her tiny red puff

most of her scars are from military combat with the exception of the top surgery scars and the one on her left hand which came from when she punched a window at the age of 15 defending snow from one of their dads getting super duper upset b/c snow was starting to date

she is 4'10" and so proud of it. will kick your ass if you're a dick about it

pajamas

nothing much to say here, she just. doesn't care all that much. tank top and sweat pants are the perfect combo of temperatures for her.

also she wears heart patterned boxers and we love her for that

military work uniform

do you know how hard it is to design a military uniform when you don't usually give a shit about the military. i spend so many hours going down worldbuilding subreddits and forums before i figured out something i was happy with. anyways! this is a non-combative officer's work uniform (aka the uniform rose wore when she was commander of the prison cinders was in). i picked red because it's the color most strongly associated with cole's army, but i figure that soldiers in combat would have better camouflage built into their uniforms.

the patch on her left shoulder (the one with the deer) is the symbol for colonel. it's also mirrored on a smaller scale on her breast. cole's army uses animals to mark higher ranks

the other shoulder patch marks her current assignment

i liked white as an accent color because of its prevalence in the album. also it looks nice!

the sleeve stripes and the chevrons both indicate that she is a very important officer

the other patches on her breast are the simplified coat of arms for her noble house (the house of grimm) and all of the medals she has earned in her 11 years of service

military dress uniform

the fancy version of her uniform for Events and Public Appearances. it's a bit darker in tone for the sake of visual interest and has a lot more accessories. this one was a nightmare to color i stg but i'm super happy with the way it turned out.

you get to see all her medals! she has complicated feelings on them but they are shiny and look very nice so.

the stripes, chevrons, and deer are all the same as the work uniform for some easy visual shorthand of her rank

the only time rose will ever wear a tie or any other neck decoration because it's regulation.

i liked the way a black undershirt looked over a white one, no other reason lol

the bear medal is because the bear is a symbol of her noble family. most people have a cougar of some sort instead.

the sword and the lion are both special awards granted specifically by cole. the lion in particular came from her first deployment where she accidentally changed the tides on the invasion of the perrault (cinders' planet) and became a war hero/propaganda piece at 19

the boots have buckles. they are never quite tight enough and its annoying.

casual dress

off duty, rose wears crisp, well tailored masc outfits. she knows how to dress herself to look effortlessly important due to being raised noble but she doesn't think too hard about it.

she wears shorts instead of full pants whenever she can get away with it. snow hates this.

no she is not buttoning up all the way. why would you make her put this much effort into it. she's hotter with it undone

fun fact: i initially made her vest and shorts green but i decided that blue looked nicer

fancy dress

i've elected to go with a 1700s inspired look for the nobility. it's very fairytale-esque and also allows me to have fun with it! i wanted to do more embroidery, but i wound up not having the patience for such a thing. ah well, what i've got looks nice enough.

rose usually wears cool colors in her formal outfits. this purple is a particular favorite of hers because it goes really nicely with her hair and ears without being obnoxious

once again, rose out here avoiding any sort of neck accessory or hat. accessories that annoy her for $10,000

the lilac undershirt is not connected to the off-white trousers it's two separate pieces.

the gold accents cut a very striking figure and also look very pretty <3

the boots are supposed to be longer and pointier but idk how well i pulled that off aha

Okay, I'm curious- you mentioned playing a "felix expy" for a ttrpg. Can you tell us more about him? Like is he just basically felix with a name change, or did you make any other changes? Give us the deets! (or not, if you don't want to! I just like felix and thought your recent art of him was really very cute btw!)

And uh, yeah... *looks at him* I would say he's different in more ways than just a name change! .w.; Mostly in design though- his personality is largely the same, and i purposefully added some details that are references to older, pre-bag Felix. (The game takes place in an alternate universe timeline of the 40's, and Felix didn't get his magic bag until the 50's after all!)

Basically- and full credit where it's due- the design i had in mind for him took a lot of inspo from this drawing by JinJangJin on twitter, which is in turn based on this idea by Danny8bit. Seemed like a fun starting point to go with for a short game, though I deffo ended up thinking too hard about it and putting my own spin on the character and worldbuilding and even the genre a bit, because I can't help myself. XD ;

I stg, I always do this with ttrpg characters- 'oh, this is only a short 1-3 session game, i'll just throw together something quick based on something cool or funny i saw once and surely never think about it again,' I lied.

Anyway i now have an entire cache of info about this specific-ass version of Felix the Cat in my brain now that will probably never see the light of day in-game because the game is literally not built for delving too deep into backstories or character details!

Anyway his name is Frank Felicitous because something something last name that's luck-related and sounds similar to feline. :B (a lot of his in-game abilities are luck based and very slapstick heavy, which has been quite fun!)

since it's disability pride month it reminds me of the time my wheelchair using uncle got yelled at by some karen lady at burger king because he stood up to get condiments. he can stand and even walk short distances but mostly uses a wheelchair since it's painful for him to walk much due to a leg injury that didn't heal correctly. but then this idiot karen apparently assumes that all wheelchair users are paraplegics or legless because she then began ranting on him for "faking" a disability and was like "are you proud of yourself that you're appropriating actual disabled people to get their benefits? you should be ashamed!"

So, Color Theory.

Color is wild and I'm not an expert buut, I did take a class a while ago on it and I'd like to think I've gotten to the point where I can use color to to acheve a certain vibe when I'm styling an outfit.

Idk if yall have noticed, but a I tend to use a lot of similar colors when I plan outfits, especially when it comes to things in my wardrobe. This is on purpose. I've paid attention to which colors I tend to gravitate to when shopping, and in real life and using what I know about myself I've been able to come up with a color palette that I like and can style outfits around.

In the past few years, I've found that I personally vibe with neutrals and pastels, and a lot of the time that leads me towards the more feminine clothes, which suits my taste just fine. Even though I know what colors I like, my wardrobe is filled regular pieces in two staple colors, black and white. These colors are a good way to break up a busy outfit and give the eye a place to rest, but too much can easily change the vibe of an outfit so be aware.

This idea of being proportional with color is one that I use a lot. Take my outfit Soda Pop for example:

This outfit is edgy and chic, but why?

First off, you got the contrast from black and white, back taking up most of the color ratio. The difference is already sharp, and good color placement on the garments themselves make it so that its inclusions highlights details that might otherwise have gone unnoticed (ex: the white seams on the pants)

Now, notice that the only color here is coming from the accessories. We could have just continued the black and white theme with the accessories (and that could have slapped too dont get me wrong) buuut throwing the smallest hints of orange in a few places around the fit is such a big brained move. This is cause now you not only have contrast between Light and Dark but also you've got this extra layer of Color Saturation to play with. Those accessories could be any color as long as they a) were vibrant as heck and

b) showed up more than once/or included a bit of white or black to tie it in with the rest of the fit.

An outfit that does the opposite of this is Stay Frosty:

This outfit also only has 3 colors (4 if you count gold) but the vibes of this one are a lot softer than Soda Pop, and that's partially because palette shift.

The use of black is majorly toned down here and is only really found in the shoes and the necklace as an accent. The primary colors here are white and a dark blue, and the way they come across are actually quite different as well.

First of all, we have some blending happening with the introduction of grey, both on the sweater and in the plaid on the skirt. Opening up this middle zone makes the palette seem a lot softer because there is less contrast between tones, and what contrast there is, is lessened in a gradient.

Secondly, and I'm going to nitpick here: that white is not actually white. It's an off-white grey, one that compliments well with the off-white in the plaid design. The color is pastel, and is less vibrant than a true bone-white, adding to the soft girl vibe by toning down the vibrancy of our main color.

An easy way to seem more put together is to pay attention to the undertones in your clothes, especially your neutrals. Using a warm toned white in an otherwise cool toned fit throws the vibe. It'll be subtle, but once you start noticing I stg it's so hard to go back. I have a cute cardigan that's a victim of this rn cause it's a an off-white with and undertone of *warm green* and it clashes with most of my wardrobe because I'm a cool toned green gal.

So yeah, color theory. It's all about how much you want to contrast your darks, lights and color vibrancy. It's also about finding colors that compliment eachother, but I'll post on that later, this ones long enough.

- mikasa journals her emotions n shit, but she also draws very emotional and dark sketches in the journal too (but they look sick asf and she's actually super talented)

- armin has watched the entire twilight series and didn't hate it, and he's is so upset with himself for not hating it

- levi has the highest spice tolerance ever, like it takes like a 100,000 on the scoville unit for him to even feel something

- hange will visit people just for their pets, but obviously won't tell people that's why they're visiting

- eren's the kind of person who always has to have more followers than people he's following, and it has to be a decently big difference like 50 people or more

- hange will just like.., snack on cheese. and i mean like slices of american cheese or the little mozzarella cheese balls

- much like myself, jean gets random memes in spanish on his explore page. both myself and jean do not speak spanish (at least i don't think he does, i just know i don't)

- sasha has like 17,000 flannels, like she's got the whole rainbow and more, and she wears every single one

- erwin smells like one of those pine tree air fresheners. he doesn't even use one he just smells like it

- connie wanted to shave a design in his hair, like how drake shaved the heart, but absolutely everyone told him no

- we all know levi doesn't sleep, but neither does mikasa and they'll just reach out to each other like "are you up" "yeah" "i'm getting water do you want anything" "you're literally in a different city" (you can decide who's who in that example)

- though sasha eats everything with no hesitation, she won't eat out of a styrofoam container. she hates literally every single aspect about styrofoam

- eren gets so aggressive when it comes to video games. is he one of those "you wouldn't survive a cod lobby" guys? no, but he will scream and insult people

- armin is the victim of deez nuts/ur mom jokes. hange and connie are the ones that make the jokes

5 Anti LO Asks

1. rachel trying to push persephone is "mature' and "owning up to her actions" is laughable when persephone legit ran away from the law and hung out in hades' house, partied, shopped, and was planning out her ~romantic sex fest~ with him (lingerie included) & only "owned up" when she was backed into a corner and had nowhere else to go. even then she was making excuses, crying, trying to use elysium, and then crying for hades to fix it, like she is not owning up to anything. She's a spoiled brat.

2. i stumbled across an LO "quote bot" today on twitter and was honestly shocked how generic and lifeless the quotes/dialogue is when its purely text with no visuals? like its shockingly cookie cutter and boring. you can't even tell which character is supposed to be saying what because it's that bland and characterless. half of it sounded like pinterest quotes. no wonder it can only be a visual thing, because it is NOT riding off its writing, let me just say.

3. love how we finally got new LO previews and it's STILL as rushed and sloppily done as ever. even the colors are worse and blend in so much you can't even tell what you're looking at! yes girl give us nothing!

4. i absolutely HATE the daphne and persephone "friendship" because rachel just had to have weird nymph racism in this comic so basically persephone's relationship to her is "how can i be racist? i have a nymph friend!". daphne literally is framed and used exactly like the token black friend trope too and I hate it so much. cant get shit with white women writers i stg.

5. i can't stand crazy LO fans,,, if you bring up genuine criticism they'll justify it with the shittest reasoning possible. like at this point im just gonna have to say "LO fucking sucks" cause it aint worth an argument where someone literally won't listen

For example: We could say we hate that LO Persephone is constantly mentioned as being beautiful and someone will act as though we’re projecting ‘our insecurities’ and that we just want to put women down. Like bro, where did we say that? Personally, just hate how it’s mentioned all the time, especially when the same face/body syndrome is rampant in LO and Persephone has one of the most basic designs in the series.

Another day. Another questionable interview from someone involved with the production. This time the Director (who to her credit at least is better than Mike Waldron in that she is able to say she likes Loki’s character whereas his interviews drip with open disdain and disrespect and he can’t even pretend otherwise). (x)

Kate Herron: But Loki doesn't have many friends, you know? He builds this friendship with Mobius across the second episode.

Here again we get out-of-universe confirmation that the narrative framing of Mobius in a positive light is intentional. Mobius is not Loki’s friend. He’s his captor and his torturer. Loki isn’t on equal footing with Mobius. They don’t even have a boss-employee relationship. LOKI WAS MOBIUS’S SLAVE until he escaped. He was being held against his will and coerced under threat of death to work for Mobius and his organization without compensation. That is slavery. And it’s not ok. 

Mobius also berated him by telling him that he is inherently evil and monstrous - the very things that drove him to suicide. Mobius is complicit in acts of torture, genocide, murder, privacy violation, and  police brutality and shows no signs of having any problem with it. He’s no more Loki’s friend than Thanos or the Black Order are. 

When has he ever treated Loki with dignity or respect? Even if we ignore all the horrific stuff, he’s just plain not nice to Loki. He constantly mocks and belittles him and never takes his side. That’s not a how a friend behaves!  That’s how a bully behaves! Where is the basis for this friendship??!!

Kate Herron: “And obviously, we're seeing it through Loki and Sylvie's POV. You know, neither of them are good or bad. A complete, pure good hero would probably join the queue and be like, "Well, hopefully we'll get on the train." But they're not those characters. They're going to try and get on it.”

They snuck onto a train??? That’s what she thinks a grey character is? That’s so dull! Loki was a complex and grey character. Larry (as I call the tv show character) and Sylvie...got on a train without a ticket. That’s laughable! That doesn’t make me think about complex morality or issues. And c’mon. All the heroic Avengers have done that level of rule breaking MANY times and they don’t lose their “pure good hero status.” Tony Stark constantly does things like that! I want Loki back. HE is a grey character. But I haven’t seen him in the show so far. Instead I get Larry the watered down clown. 

Kate Herron: “When Loki and Mobius are at Pompeii, for example, that's shown through Loki's POV, right? He's joyous and he cracked the case. Pompeii was horrific, but we're seeing it through his perspective and he's in a completely different headspace.”

You know a scene can have more than one emotion right? Like he could be happy about solving the case but also horrified at the destruction of Pompeii? Instead he is laughing at the people who are about to die horrifically and seems to have no compassion for them whatsoever. Sure people can headcanon reasons why he behaved that way (and more power to them. Fixing dumb canon is what fandom is all about!) but the narrative framing is to me pretty clearly lighthearted and the director confirms that intent. There seems to be no awareness that by having Loki behave so callously it makes him come across as incredibly cruel. Far more than he ever was in canon. 

In Thor 2011 Thor is laughing while slaughtering Jotnar (as is considered appropriate in his culture) but Loki isn’t. He kills when he has to but he doesn’t enjoy it, something that’s unusual for the culture he was raised in. This Pompeii scene could’ve been a great time to see Loki’s more compassionate side as he looks at the people who are going to die. We could’ve seen some real conflict from him. And it would’ve been a great moment to start introducing the concept that he’s more than just a simple villain to more casual viewers. Instead, although they think they’re “redeeming” Larry over the course of the show they’ve made him far worse and more villainous. I wish they had hired an experienced Director who also understands Loki - like Kenneth Brannaugh!!! - rather than a Director who has never headed up a major project before. Though even the best Director couldn’t fix the abysmal and ooc script and story Mike Waldron came up with. 

Kate Herron: “I think that's the thing that's really key for her is that she's a completely original character, completely born out of our writers, and that, for me, was exciting.” 

Remember when I said Sylvie is the favored OC? Called it. 

Kate Herron: “The train scene I love because Loki doesn't get many wins and it's nice to see him having a nice sing-song. He's just enjoying himself. Because I think that's such a funny way, as well, to show the difference between him and Sylvie is that she's on a mission. She's like, "We're going to get off this moon." And when she's offered a drink, she's like, "No, thank you."

WOW. I hate this SO much. So suddenly Sylvie gets to act more like Loki and Loki suddenly doesn’t know how to be subtle and is just a dumb clown messing everything up. C’mon! This is absolutely ridiculous. This is not Loki silvertongue. This is not the Loki who tried to diffuse the situation on Jotunheim and almost succeeded. This is not the Loki who was always a restraining voice in Thor’s ear. They’ve turned Sylvie into discount Loki without any depth or complexity or vulnerability and they’ve turned Loki into discount Thor ft. dumb clown! Absolutely outrageous. 

Kate Herron: “everything is not what it seems and even in our design, people have picked up on certain things. Like the way that they dress, or the posters and that there's something a bit more going on there.”

If the TVA actually turn out to be twist villains I will laugh SO hard; I’d say that twist is too dumb even for Marvel but...it’s really not! Like. Guys. If they’re gonna be TWIST villains you have to not have them do obviously villainous things on screen!!!! BECAUSE THEN IT’S NOT A TWIST!!!!

From the moment we meet them we see them commit acts of police brutality, murder, genocide, trial without due process, enslavement, privacy violation, and torture IN ORDER TO ELIMINATE FREE WILL. Like. They are literally the most evil organization in the MCU. Even Thanos can’t compare. So having them be revealed as villains will fall flat. Because the twist isn’t the audience learning new information or the main character learning it. It’s just the narrative suddenly acknowledging it and treating their atrocities seriously. So the twist is in the real world not the show. And it’ll make Larry look like an even bigger idiot than he already does if he’s suddenly like “Wait the people who tortured and enslaved me are evil?! What?!??!” (I stg if he has to fight miss minutes in the end like I joked about I will lose it).

Also. Why make it a twist?! When you treat the villains as a joke it robs the narrative of tension. Their acts of evil should’ve been acknowledged from the beginning in order to create sympathy for the protagonist and tension in the narrative as we watch him try to escape this situation! Smh. The only funny joke in this series is how badly the writing fails.
