The Arsonist Theory, Part 3: Journey to the Vicious Spiral Nebula
Part 1: Mandibles!
Part 2: We Get It, The Billboard Was A Metaphor
I want to take a step back for a moment. Look at the bigger picture of Gravity Falls as a whole, and at the relationship between narrative foils that are the protagonists and antagonists of a story.
But first, just a recap: For anyone new, the Arsonist Theory proposes that Bill was not the sole person responsible for the destruction of his home dimension-- there was a third party, an accomplice that used him like he uses others now.
Once again:
MAJOR SPOILERS FOR THE BOOK OF BILL, INCLUDING SOLUTIONS TO CIPHERS
On we go!
Gravity Falls is, at its core, a story about cycles.
More specifically, it's a story about the vicious cycles that enable bad behavior- both personal spirals, and cyclical patterns of behavior in families.
We see this most obviously with the Stan twins, with both personal and familial cycles. In the personal side of things, Stan broke Ford's perpetual motion machine, resulting in his parents disowning him and Stan vowing that they were wrong and they'd see that one day, only for every attempt to prove them wrong about him to backfire and get him into even worse trouble, each failure further cementing his reputation more and more as a lying, dishonest criminal-- hey, where have I heard this one before?
On Ford's side, he erroneously trusted Bill and was consumed by both the portal and, once he realized he'd made it, his mistake itself. Even after Bill's death, he's terrified of him-- the mistake consumes him, eats him up inside. However, every time he attempts to subdue Bill on his own without confiding in his family the full story for fear of their judgement, it all ends up making everything worse. The incident with the portal and Stan? It was because he refused to tell Stan what exactly was going on, deciding to keep it all to himself out of guilt and lash out instead of admitting that he'd trusted the wrong person and that he was in grave danger-- hey, I might have heard this one before, too!
On the familial side of things, the Pines twins' parents don't exactly have the best relationship, as revealed in the Book Of Bill.
Tumblr media
That fight must have been pretty bad to give Dipper, a kid who's survived the APOCALYPSE, nightmares. The Pines family has been shaped by familial dysfunction, and now it's been passed on-- the Stan twins' parents weren't exactly the healthiest parents, especially Filbrick. It's plain to see that that dysfunction was passed down from generation to generation, until it hit the Pines twins' parents as well.
And hell, Dipper and Mabel almost being broken apart as well-- not only because of Ford offering Dipper an apprenticeship without considering Mabel, mirroring how he sees Stan as dead weight, but also because of their parents fighting. Mabel didn't want to go home to that environment alone, and Dipper wanted to be far, far away from it. The Stan twins were broken apart by their father, and now the Pines twins will be broken apart by the Stans.
Except... that's not what happened, was it?
The Pines twins didn't let this break them apart. Dipper ended up prioritizing his sister and caring about her and her feelings, without just writing her off as deadweight the way Ford did to Stan. And eventually, the Stan twins also reconciled. They broke the cycle, as protagonists in a story with a happy ending tend to do.
Bill, as their antagonistic foil, would therefore be perpetuating cycles like this, instead of breaking them.
Then it stands to reason that, from a Doylist perspective, wouldn't it make sense for Bill to have been a victim of the same kind of manipulation and deceit that he now inflicts onto others?
In fact, we already have an example of Bill being hurt by someone, then going on to pass that same pain onto someone else:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Even though this is a silly example, we've been given canonical evidence that the way Bill deals with trauma is to take it out on someone else. And let's be real, Gravity Falls is rife with examples of something seemingly silly at first but ending up to hold emotional weight for the characters involved. Take in point Stan's attachment to Wax Stan.
So, we've established the cycles present in Gravity Falls and Bill's thematic role as the antagonist leading to him perpetuating instead of breaking cycles. So, what does that mean for this theory?
Bill and Ford are already presented as foils to each other- they're both outcast individuals with both a strange personality and a mutation that make them unpalatable to others, with a sordid home life, who eventually make a huge supernatural mistake with apocalyptic consequences. So, it's natural to wonder: what if their parallels extend even beyond this?
Ford initially blamed himself for being foolish enough to fall for Bill's tricks, placing the blame largely on himself. However, his family was there for him to pull him out of that way of thinking and help him move past it. Bill, in contrast, didn't have a family, ergo he had no one to pull him out of a similar rut. And we see multiple times throughout the Book of Bill and the Axolotl's poem that he does regret what happened to Euclidia, and his role in causing the massacre, so it's not out of the question to think that maybe, his thinking followed a line similar to Ford's. That there was someone that took advantage of Bill's desire to make everyone understand, and Bill blamed himself both for falling for it and for being ineffectual in stopping it.
Ford was at a standstill and approached by Bill, who was a genuine friend in a lifetime of loneliness and who presented himself as a friend, only to be used by him to create a portal that Bill was going to use for destruction-- perhaps Bill went through the same sequence, as victim instead of perpetrator?
Did you know that most perpetrators of abuse are themselves victims of abuse? They grow up without healing from their past traumas, and end up inflicting it onto others, thus continuing the cycle.
(Here's a fun fact- that's actually what my first theory ever was about, before this blog!)
Anyway, to me it's becoming clearer and clearer-- there's a glaringly obvious thematic parallel here that very neatly supports the idea of someone having used Bill in this manner in the past.
Oh, and by the way- on Time Baby's report on Bill, a translated cipher refers to him as the "Lone survivor of the Euclidian Massacre"
Lone survivor? If he'd acted alone, wouldn't it say "perpetrator?" If Time Baby knew enough to know what dimension he was a survivor of despite Bill himself never even speaking its name, then he should know enough to know the story of what happened. There's always the possibility that he didn't, but I saw fit to mention it.
In part four, everything is gonna be tied together as neatly as I can, with some present-day clues from Bill's actions that point to certain parts of his trauma being linked together that, on their own, seem a bit... reach-y, but with three posts of evidence backing them, they hold more water than that.
Part 4: Blame The Arson, Not The Fire

Anon needs to understand there’s more than one way to be a bad parent, Viserys and Rhaenyra are proof of this.
Viserys enabled his daughter to extreme measures, all he had to do was send Harwin away the minute Jace was born but he buried his head in the sand instead. Rhaenyra wasn’t exactly discreet either, she was very openly sleeping with Harwin for the whole court to see and was emboldened to have THREE back to back pregnancies because she knew her father wouldn’t stop her. How is this good parenting? A good father would have taught his daughter actions have consequences.
Rhaenyra is no better, through her relationship with Harwin she shows her sons they can do whatever the hell they want with 0 consequence and this has long term repercussions. Luke openly mocks the boy he DISABLED, Jace breaks his betrothal to Baela, they do whatever the hell they want because they know their mother will enable them.
Say it louder for the people in the back, anon!
Viserys set a terrible example of parenthood for Rhaenyra. Considering that, it's not surprising that she would become just as much of an enabler to her own kids. The cycles do be cycling after all. That's a large part of this story. It makes me sad to see that aspect of the story, and of Rhaenyra's character, go ignored by her fans. Then again, the Team Black stans don't acknowledge that Viserys was a terrible father either, so I don't know what I expected.
Slight tangent here, but I would like to add that not only would a good father teach his daughter that actions have consequences, a good king would've taught his heir that actions have consequences.
As entitled as Rhaenyra is, her view of herself as exceptional isn't entirely unfounded. She's a princess. She's a dragonrider. She's the first female heir to the throne. She is exceptional in a lot of ways. But no one has bothered to teach her that that exceptional position 1) does not make her inherently better than anyone else, and 2) comes with responsibility. Viserys's and subsequently Rhaenyra's enabling would've been bad enough if they were just regular people, but they're the ruling family of Westeros. Their family dysfunction and infighting literally have consequences for the entire country. That means it's exponentially more important for them to not make decisions that lead to family dysfunction and infighting. That is so obvious I feel like I shouldn't even have to say it.
Viserys marrying Alicent and then treating her and their children like shit shows he clearly didn't understand this, so it's not surprising to me that Rhaenyra didn't learn this either. Hell, Viserys literally enables and supports Rhaenyra in breaking the law! Rhaenyra knows that advocating for her bastards, who everyone knows are bastards, to inherit over trueborn heirs is treason. Viserys knows this too and he supports her anyway. Why wouldn't Rhaenyra assume that she can do whatever the hell she wants? Why wouldn't she adopt that same mindset for her own children? Of course someone raised on toxic Targaryen exceptionalism and by an extremely enabling parent isn't gonna grow up to be a good person, a good parent, or a good ruler! Again, the cycles are cycling. That's the point. These are all perfectly realistic flaws for Rhaenyra to have and perfectly realistic mistakes for her to make. But they are flaws. They are mistakes. Not acknowledging that does her character and the story a huge disservice.

Hi,
Hope you are doing well. Thank you for the response to the query on Ursa.
I am back to TSR. A thought just struck me that TSR shines a light on Aang's flaw in relation to not understanding other cultures, something which seems consistent from Book 1, in regards to SWT customs at least.
One thing that we understand from the show is that a sense of family and community is one of the values of SWT, whereas Aang, being an Air Nomad has been taught to keep himself above earthly matters, but Aang being the Avatar cannot do so. He should have understood or at least acknowledged he was wrong in regards to this part of the SWT, along with the other major reasons related to Katara.
Also, its hilarious that Zuko understood this, in fact it feels like something that Aang should have learnt as part of his development, went to Zuko more.
This is a bit of a reach I think.
I would like your thoughts on this.
I've seen Aang stans say he doesn't understand family since he grew up an Air Nomad, but like, he should definitely understand community values because Air Nomad children are raised communally. Also his principal wound in the story is that he ran away out of fear of losing Monk Gyatso as a father figure. He should absolutely be able to understand Katara's loss. The fact that he can't empathize with her reads like misogyny because he sees her as his love interest first, and a person like him second. It also reads like racism considering the other times the story goes out of its way to show him disparaging SWT culture, without ever having to learn different.
It IS funny that Zuko better understands both that you can't force cultural values onto others AND what it's like to lose family, since he grew up with a belief that he didn't need to respect other cultures and a family that was seriously dysfunctional.
But then, someone who is forced to learn things the hard way often has a better understanding of things than someone who never had their beliefs challenged.

Remember that scene from episode 7, when Aemond tries to approach Jace on Driftmark, looking like he is about to offer his condolences but at the same time knows he shouldn't because even Jace can't acknowledge his real father? And Jace looks somewhat annoyed and Aemond leaves, then Jace glances at Aegon who is already in his cups and doesn't even notice him? There were no scenes like that in season 2. Short but meaningful, the scenes that reveal so much about the characters involved. We have Aemond who even after being mocked by his nephews still can sympathise with them in a way and the two (Aemond/Jace) can give us a 'what if' moment that creates the ultimate fallout more tragic. Then we have Jace who obviously is interested more in Aegon as a ringleader, an older boy he looks up to, and yet, it's Aemond, the boy he mocks for not having a dragon, the one who approaches him. These kind of scenes are important for the character building and also for making a stronger emotional impact on the audience when it comes to the fate of the mentioned characters. S2 had none of this and destroyed and undid whatever s1 built character and story-wise. Aemond's and Alicent's characters suffered the most, no doubt, but it was bad in general.
Also, in the balcony scene it's obvious how helaena and aemond have a great chemistry and it just made me even more mad because they had so little screentime together in both seasons. Same goes for Aegond. It's criminal they had zero good scenes , save for that one in e6 that is just used to not so subtly remind us that Aemond is a sadist. Also, why wouldn't Aemond just finish Aegon off because as long as he lives, Aemond is not safe? The answer: in the book he obviously didn't try to kill him at RR and therefore wouldn't want to kill him in the aftermath either, but these idiots just needed their shitty change to all of the sudden make Aemond a one dimensional villain, make Aegon as pitiful as possible and to show how terrible and dysfunctional the greens are as a family. However, they couldn't just kill Aegon off so early and that's why they attempted to fix their stupid plothole with that scene when Aemond threatens him. Like, what?? I'm supposed to believe that was enough for Aegon to shut up for weeks and then just leave? Nah. There were bunch of similar idiocies through the whole season and I'm sure that something seriously went wrong between s1 and 2 because the drop in quality is jarring. I'm not saying s1 was that great, but this one was abysmal. Probably Miguel leaving was one of the main reasons, but whatever it was, this season will remain a great example of what not to do when you make a TV show. I just feel sorry for the lost potential and also for the people who are planning to watch s3 because, unless you're a die hard tb stan with zero critical thinking skills, I can't see the appeal.
Ugh, I hope this rant makes sense 😅
Hello, and thank you for the ask!
You're making a very good point. Season 1 was by no means perfect; but there was at least some if not love then genuine investment in the story and the characters from the showrunners - one could feel that at least occasionally. I guess it really came from Sapochnik's end because Condal clearly couldn't care less. The show used to have a soul - and now it feels empty. And, as it has been proven time and time again through the entirety of cinematic history, it is virtually impossible to create a truly good film or TV show if you don't give a damn about its essence.
I saw some people calling season 2 "a trailer for season 3" - because of how underwhelming and lacking in substance it turned out to be, I assume. To me it feels like something in between a trailer for the things to come and a recap of an actual season that was filmed but not shown to us for some reason. Pretty much everything feels superficial - even the dragged out scenes supposedly added for symbolism purposes or whatnot. The relationships between the characters are underdeveloped at best, destroyed at most (for example, chemistry between Green siblings' actors is utterly wasted indeed); some plot points make no sense; quite a few characters seem to have got a personality transplant in between the seasons.
Actually, I can understand why people, even TG fans would still be willing to watch season 3 (some for Aegon and Larys storyline, some for Alysmond - whatever form it takes, some for other reasons which could be many). As for me though - at the risk of sounding too dramatic - I had too much heart poured into this show and got hurt too badly by what it has become to even think of continuing to watch it without feeling sick. At least, for now.

HAPPY TREY/STAN DAY!!
TREY: i owe a lot to both him and matt. without them my #1 big comfort show wouldn’t exist??? so i guess i should say.. thanks for keeping it going through all these years. it means a LOT to not only just me but MILLIONS of other people as well. also… trey’s scripts are always so… so GOOD??? and the fact that he’s been able to keep that quality for 25 years… wow. also he voices SO MANY characters on the show including THE MOST ICONIC CHARACTER??? this dude literally made eric into CARTMAN. happy 54th trey. i can’t wait to see what the next 4 years of south park will bring!!
STAN: this character has been a BIG source of emotional comfort to me. honestly i didn’t think too much of stan at first, but now he’s definitely in my top 3 (and that’s saying a lot, considering the sheer size of this show’s cast of characters). never in my life have i related to a character more than stan. every time this character is on screen i am reminded of the fourth-grade me. his experiences with his family and his friends, his overall personality, and most of all how he has grown and changed as a person (yes, i am referring to “You’re Getting Old” and “Ass Burgers”). i think every person has had the experience of the rapid emotional change one experiences around the time they hit puberty, but seeing it in the way it was portrayed with stan just hit so close to home for me. it felt like such a shared experience seeing a character go through the process of likes/dislikes transforming themselves and relationships quickly changing for the worse, all topped by the conflict of his parents’ dysfunctional marriage. i had BEEN THERE BEFORE.
anyways, stan is such an amazing character and i couldn’t haven chosen a better protagonist for this show. you go lil man

♡ Elder blood Jaskier headcanon ♡
(Edited post)
Tumblr media
I actually had this headcanon for a while now, probably started tossing ideas around in my head a few days after I watched Blood Origin. Here is a special thank you to @melinoiaagesander for reminding me about it and inspiring me to do something about it as well. Seeing as I tend to be a very lazy person (executive dysfunction go brrr), I will not be writing a fanfiction unless the mood strikes and if that happens, I shall gladly fall victim to hyperfixation and shit out a 50 000 word masterpiece with very bad grammar. And no, if I do write it, I will not fix the grammar mistakes unless rereading it brings forth the fattest, most scrumptiously painful dose of cringe in my life.
So OK, here we go....
I think it is common knowledge (despite the few times I've seen posts from confused Witcher fans right after the mini series aired), that Ithlinne's prophecy was about Ciri, the Lion Cub of Cintra and the descendent of Elie & Fjall. However, thanks to a brief lapse in judgement on the production team's part, either because of the way it was shot and edited or the because of the way it was written, when Seanchaí recited the prophecy:
"The Lark's seed shall carry forth the first note of a song that ends all time, and one of her blood shall sing the last"
It came across as delightfully misleading to many of us, even if most of us quickly understood to whom Seanchaí was actually referring to. Still, my bleeding Jaskier stan heart has never felt more glee at the prospect of getting another little Netflix "oopsie" to play with! (The other one being that they forgot to age Jaskier in season 1 and then decided to not even bother for season 2)
Which is why I took my ritalin, rubbed my clammy, cold little fingers together like a cartoon villain and dug deep into the lore, to find a way to spin an intricate web of realistic and clever facts that would serve as my personal foundation for this exciting headcanon! Jaskier is another descendent of the Lark and her Witcher, he has elder blood coursing through his veins and is distantly related to Cirilla Fiona Elen Riannon!
(If Netflix weren't a bunch of pussies and if a disgusting majority of the Witcher fandom weren't a bunch of gatekeeping, racist and homophobic Plot-Guardians, this could have been the coolest curveball ever! The adorable, frilly and fragile bumbling human of a bard, going from side-character to focal point.)
Tumblr media
Let's lay down the groundwork:
(I AM SO GIDDY AAAAAHHH, somebody catch me, I think I'm gonna faint!!)
- While Witchers as we know them are sterile, Fjall is clearly not. Because his mutation process wasn't designed by a group of mages who spent a long time on optimizing the serum to better serve it's purpose. Fjall was an experimental prototype, created from desperation and a few rush-job elixirs, so his precious elf balls weren't tampered with.
- Elie and Fjall made love after Fjall's transformation, bringing the first child of elder blood into existence. Which happened ca 1200 years before the canon era that the main Witcher series is set in, meaning that Ciri has a shit ton of ancestors that predate her entire canonical family tree, all going unaccounted for.
- Jaskier, as we can obviously see, has visually not aged a single day since meeting Geralt in Posada at age 18-19 (don't quote me on this, finding a reliable info source is a nightmare). He traveled with Geralt on and off for approximately 20ish years, making him at least 40 in the Rare Species episode and at least a little bit over 40 in the Family episode of season 2. That alone has inspired hundreds if not thousands of headcanons about Jaskier not being entirely human, one of which is: Jaskier is part elf.
- And OH BOY, isn't that neat?!?!?! I mean, we see a talented young bard, whom everyone assumes to be human, whom Blood Origin's ending accidentally implied to be a descendent of another bard, an elven bard who lived 1200 years ago and had a child with an elven Witcher. That should be enough metaphorical fapping material for my brain, shouldn't it?
Not so fast....
Tumblr media
What if instead of imagining that some long fossil type beat long dead ancestor, lost to history, somehow ended up siring a child into a family of Keracki Nobles (Lettenhove doesn't seem to appear on any map of the continent I could find, but several sources claim that it is a small Viscouncy located in Kerack).....I could instead put in some effort and figure out how to make things more interesting, how to make Jaskier's elder blood ancestor actually traceable and as an awesome bonus, make Jaskier's and Ciri's relation a little closer. Not by a lot, obviously, it wouldn't make sense, but just enough for a new dynamic for fanfiction writers to explore. Personally, the idea of it has the potential to heal my poor broken heart, I adore Jaskier so much, but the way the main 3 characters of the series have treated him until Yennefer finally grew a braincell makes me sad.
Geralt's shitty apology aside, Lambert's cranky "No" aside (yk what I'm talking about), Yarpen Zigrin's unfriendliness aside, I DID NOT enjoy the scenes in which Ciri interacted with Jaskier. This headcanon though? Oh man, if I only had enough juice in me to write something for AO3, spin some epic ass Jaskier-centric tale, sprinkle in some geraskier/yennskier/lambskier and tag it with fix-it? I would!
Back to business, this is Ciri's family tree, it has the royal family of Cintra, girlboss Calanthe is there, Ciri's mom Pavetta is there, her sick son of a bitch father too. As you can see, besides the unknown descendents of Elie and Fjall, elder blood has deep roots and it can all be traced back to these folks: Lara Dorren aep Shiadhal & Cregennan of Lod, as well as Cerro of Redania & King Vridank of Redania....however those two are of no importance to this post.
Tumblr media
Instead of trying to squeeze Jaskier into the equation by picking some rando as far back in time as possible, I stumbled across a treasure when trying to go from the bottom up. That treasure being another direct descendent of Lara Dorren as well as Elie and Fjall, his name was Crispin!
Tumblr media
See him there? He happens to be Queen Calanthe's grandmother's twin brother! Although his name box is blue and not red, unlike King Goidemar of Temeria, the line that leads us to him is dark red, which means he is of elder blood and bears the activator gene as well, just like his sister. Now, if one needs a sex partner with the green latent gene in order to awaken the dormant powers in this blood line (which although watered down, still is incestuous), then I am not sure how Jaskier could inherit the same powers as Ciri. I myself prefer to headcanon that since Lettenhove is in Kerack, the small Viscouncy is located near the borders of Brokilon and therefore the Pankratz family could easily have a few drops of mixed blood with one of the Brokilon nymphs.
I am not much of a biologist (despite getting good grades in it back in high school), but it does make sense to me that being at least a little bit mixed with nymph DNA could theoretically aid in strengthening Jaskier's elder blood & activator genes. Sort of like how dog breeders play God to make a better specimen for many different purposes. In Jaskier's ancestry case, I like to think that one of his forefathers got seduced by a Rusalka, found out that she used him to get pregnant and then stole the child from her and raised the kid alone, in doing so, introducing nymph DNA into the Pankratz lineage.
Back to Crispin
Crispin aep Amavet, turned out to have a rather convenient backstory!
Apparently, his mother, Anna Kameny, was married to Count Roger Kameny and less than a year before her twins were born, she had an affair with Prince Amavet of Temeria (Queen Calanthe's great grandfather and Ciri's 4x great grandfather).
So with Crispin and his twin sister Muriel the Delightful, both being children of Prince Amavet, making them illegitimate to Count Roger Kameny, their mother Anna had to fight in court three times so that her kids could inherit Roger's estate. Muriel was content with that, she didn't care that her real father was a Prince and didn't push to be recognized as Amavet's daughter. Kameny wealth and her beauty combined, she didn't have trouble finding a husband and leading a happy life.
Crispin on the other hand, knowing that he is of royal blood, proud of his elven heritage, wanted that relation validated. So he started wearing the Kameny coat of arms, which he had custom made to hint at who his real father is by adding burgundy to the Temerian lilies. This caused a MAJOR scandal, turns out his little stunt was illegal and he got his ass arrested. He payed a fine and swore to never repeat that mistake, but what did he do instead????
Tumblr media
Yeah, he fucking did it again, enraging enemies and his own mother as well, who fought so hard for his "legality" for the Count title. After that, Crispin, as a massive "Fuck you" to everyone, joined a gang of mercenaries and referred to himself as Crispin aep Amavet. Time went by, battles were fought and eventually he just disappeared off of the face of the earth. People assumed that he died and they were glad about it...ain't that convenient?
For the sake of this headcanon, I think Crispin could have easily just gone into hiding, wandering the continent under a fake name and impregnating some Pankratz de Lettenhove lady in the process. Could have just been a one night stand and nobody would know, nobody would know that Jaskier is related to the Cintran crown, to Ciri herself, to Lara Dorren and finally to another bard, so much like himself, Ellie the Lark.
Tumblr media
I fucking LOVE this headcanon to bits and pieces! There is so much here that one can play with! Like Jaskier's meeting with Seanchaí somehow triggering the dormant powers within him and what those powers would look like, I don't think the first sign of it would be a deadly scream. I like to think that his newly awakened chaos would somehow tie into his singing, there is so much potential here, so many ideas to explore!
In canon, Ciri is destined to destroy humanity and return the elves back to power, but Jaskier has already beat her to it a little, kick-starting the process by smuggling elves to Xin'trea.

Sorry for editing this post 5 times, I was still working on it while waiting for AVATAR to start at the Cinema and accidentally published it in panic when the lights went out. Anyways, I hope you guys enjoyed it and I hope that this post can be of use to you if you decide to write a fanfic about/inspired by it! :3
(Please tag me if you do, I would love to read it! May your writing process be smooth, may your updates be frequent and may AO3 maintenance not impact your creativity!)

dunno if you're particularly into the series at all, but if so, I'm curious about your feelings on the sibling/familial dynamics in gravity falls
oh anon, i was very into Gravity Falls! i have three fics published to my main ao3 account and a hidden disused tumblr full of spicy problematic shipping fics because i am who i am.
i think they're really good! there's a lot going on there. i like the tension between Dipper and Mabel, how one of them wants to grow up too fast and one of them wants everything to stay the same, and the way they clash and argue but are ultimately always there for each other. they clearly love each other a lot and have a far more supportive and functional family structure than the Stans did, but they still have their issues.
Stan and Ford meanwhile are an on-fire garbage can and i love it. these two are soooo fucked up. these twins have every single issue. love their wildly dysfunctional and abusive upbringing (cannot BELIEVE a number of people sincerely argued that their dad was not abusive lmao) and the way they both project so bitterly onto each other. love Stan's clingy codependence because he doesn't feel like he has any value outside of being attached to Ford, and Ford's simultaneous enjoyment of having a built-in scapegoat and hanger-on and someone to feel superior to AS WELL AS being smothered to death and wanting to just escape and create his own individual identity.
i love how messy and difficult the Stans' relationship is too even as adults, like, how they just can't let go of all the pain and wounds of their childhood or all that deeply held resentment towards each other. i have to say that insofar as i'm on anyone's 'side' here, it's Stan's; i understand Ford intimately, and get exactly why he felt and thought the way he did (and does throughout the series), but he's an asshole who scapegoats Stan as the cause for every single bad thing in his life because that's easier than examining 1) the larger systemic factors 2) the role their Entire Family Dynamic played in it 3) his own responsibility and also 4) the fact that while what happened with the project and his dream college chance sucked, for sure, having to go to a shittier school and work hard is... idk just not that fucking bad lmao.
like sorry dude but the pain and trauma of having to attend a second-rate college and really devote yourself to standing out does not compare to being kicked out of your home at 17 and made homeless, and it's something that tons of people deal with, and frankly i think a huge amount of Ford's anger about that imo is based in the fact that he feels like he's better than that and deserves better, and has spent most of his life seethingly furious about the fact that the world around him does not recognize his talent and superiority.
(which is very much a coping mechanism for feeling like the only thing he has going for him IS his intellectual abilities - nobody values anything else about him, and it feels like his only way out of a future of grinding misery, so of course he retreats into self-obsessed misanthropy. i understand it very well, but i have enough distance from my own period of Being Like That to recognize that it's a selfish and assholish way of viewing oneself and the world, lmao.
and to be clear i'm not bashing Ford here, i think he's a lot of fun and an excellent character and very relatable - he's very human, and i love that. he's messy and kind of shitty and struggles to be better, and it's extremely understandable.)
i think the way that we see Stan recreate his own childhood dynamics with Dipper is interesting too... the way he treats the twins is very, idk, i guess it's a very familiar sort of pattern to me. Mabel is a girl so he can form an emotional connection with her, that's safe, and she can be his silly special princess who he loves and spoils, but since Dipper is a boy, they can only connect through the Rituals Of Masculinity, which especially in Stan's case are extremely toxic and damaging.
so Stan ends up perpetuating his own abuse on Dipper, albeit less severely - i 100% believe Filbrick physically abused his kids, and i think sometimes Stan might skirt that line, but i don't think he'd ever raise a hand to either of the twins. he is absolutely emotionally abusive towards Dipper, especially earlier on in the show before they kind of reconcile in terms of Dipper thinking Stan hates him.
that's just really interesting to me! i always love that examination of like, how this sort of thing echoes down generations. you can see the fingerprints of Stan's father in how he treats both of the twins, the attitudes he brings towards them...
also Ford is like, wildly irresponsible lmao. the whole thing where he starts like, taking Dipper into his confidence and having him keep secrets and trying to get between him and Stan and Mabel... like i don't think he's doing it on purpose or has malicious intentions, he's just lonely and kind of stunted and really likes this kid and sees himself in him and is not really able to look past that self-projection to who Dipper actually is and how they're different, but oh man.
(the potential for writing it AS deliberate grooming is off the charts tbh. i'm still waiting for someone to come up with that fic because there's just a lot of potential there.)
so, anyway, tl;dr is that i think the sibling/family dynamics in gravity falls are really good and complex and layered, with a lot of pain and tragedy in there, but also a lot of love and striving to do and be better.

So I have questions for you
What's your thoughts on Stendy? (i'm a Stendy Fan)
Who do you Ship Wendy with?
What's your thoughts on deep learning episode?
What's your thoughts on Stendy Fans and Stendy Shippers?
Your opinion on Kydi? (Kyle X Heidi)
Hi! Thanks for the questions : )
1. Stendy is cute! I feel like it could be written better. I like that it's complicated instead of being perfect.
2. I ship Wendy with Cartman mostly, but I also like her with Kyle. Stendy is cute and so is her and Bebe.
3. I love Deep Learning! I think it makes sense that Stan has trouble with communication especially with how dysfunctional his family and home life is on top of his friends leaving him when he first started showing signs of his depression. It's sad that he let chatgpt completely stop him from putting in any effort with her and that (to me) it didn't come off like he felt guilty for missing those intimate moments (especially confiding in him with whatever happened to her when she was 6). He cared to an extent, not wanting her to be heartbroken, but as soon as the date was over and Wendy left, it just felt like Stan cared more about getting caught.
4. There are like one or two hardcore stendy fans on twitter that I've seen get upset when they get shipped with other people, but I know it's not just stendy fans, all ships have those kinds of people. The stendy fans I've interacted with have always been nice though.
5. Kydi is cute!!! The note passing and the cute little smiles. How it happened while she was with Cartman was messed up but clearly she needed a friend. And Kyle had to hear her be antisemitic bc of Cartman manipulating her. I still think they could be cute though.

Hey, hi! Toby here. Here’s my first CrimeBoys fic rec list! This is my first time doing anything like this lol, so do forgive me if i make any mistakes - criticism and such is welcome :) (Summaries don’t include excerpts! Tell me if you’d all prefer I included them.)
Toby’s Personal Recs!
Tommy Makes Divorce 1000% Funnier by SneakyToni [T, 5k+, 1/1 || Tommy Videos AU.. I think.. // Crack Treated Seriously, Light Angst, Fluff, Kid!Tommy, Parental!George] George and his husband are going through a divorce and a custody battle, leaving Wilbur to babysit their little gremlin while they iron things out.
Because dreaming costs money, my dear by eneliii [T, 15k+, 2/2 || Hybrids + Modern AU // Kid Fic, Fluff, Angst, MCD, Hopeful Ending, Violinist!Tommy] Tommy wants to be a violinist.
Let's make clay figurines together by orphan_account [G, 16k, 1/1 || Modern AU // Fluff, Humor, Light Angst, h/c, Artist!Tommy, Teacher!Wilbur] After two months of art lessons, Tommy very much regretted choosing it as a GCSE. Not because he was bad at it or anything—no he loved drawing—but it was his teachers. It was how his school taught art. Everything about it sucked the creativity out of it. It took away his choice of expression, forced him to write coursework about overrated, dead artists and their dogshit contemporary pieces. But then he got a new teacher to sub into his Friday lessons. He didn't think someone whose last name referred to the stuff in chimneys could make him love art again. Yet, Mr Wilbur Soot did.
under the brine by bonesandthebees [T, 29k+, 4/4 || Modern AU // Angst with a Happy Ending, Horror, Temporary MCD, Memory loss] Wilbur finds a dead body at the beach, and that's only the start of his problems. or or, crimeboys enjoyers just trust me on this I gotchu
Waisting Your Time by shutupanakin [T, 33k+, 9/9 || Modern AU // Angst, h/c, Healing, Bittersweet Ending] Tommy planned on dying. He meets Wilbur instead.
Black Honey by birdfeet [T, 39k+, 5/? || Modern AU // Road Trips, Angst, h/c, Dysfunctional Relationships/Family, Minor Violence // Underage Alcohol & Drug Usage] Being alone isn't lonely, but sometimes having someone else there is
vanderlyle crybaby cry by bonesandthebees [T, 41k+, 7/7 || Modern AU // Angst, Wilbur-centric, Mental Health, Dysfunctional Family/Relationship // Suicide Attempt, Suicidal Thoughts] Wilbur is only a few months away from getting his degree when he has a mental breakdown and is unwillingly pulled out of his classes. With nothing to fill his days, Phil gets Wilbur a part time job at a local bookstore, where he finds himself getting trained by a loud-mouthed teenager who hates his guts right off the bat. Great. All he wants to do is graduate, but now he has to deal with a seventeen year old trying to get him fired. Thanks Phil. But somehow, this kid ends up being exactly what Wilbur needs.
I'm Still An Ugly by AlliRose09 [M, 66k+, 29/29 || Superpowers/Superhero AU // SBI, Heavy Angst, h/c, Manipulative!Dream, Villain!Tommy // Abuse, Amputation] A new generation was here. One filled with heroes but also with villains. A group, which the heroes call The Uglies, were rumored to have been making a plan to wipe out the capital. The heroes, also known as P.o.G need a miracle. Instead they got Tommy. Or Tommy is apart of an evil group and gets taken by P.o.G after an accident. Soon he learns that his supposed enemies might not be that bad.
His Curse Of Binding by orphan_account [T, 144k+, 30/30 || Foster AU + Greek Mythology // SBI, Angst with a Happy Ending, Immortal!Tommy, MCD (sort of), Reincarnation] In which Tommy Soot, originally born in 1509, is cursed to be reborn, to never reach adulthood unless he figured out the Greek myth of his lifetime. He had one rule of not allowing himself to get attached to people but he would have never guessed that a foster family of the creator of Minecraft, an anime stan and a Soundcloud musician would break that rule. ~ SBI Foster AU but with Greek mythology.
Well, that’s most - if not all - of my favourite CrimeBoys fics! Some of these are popular, and you may recognise them or their authors. Hopefully, you find a new fic from this list. Feel free to drop into my Ask Box or request a list! See you darlings soon. 💙

The Top Five Relationship Books For Couples In Crisis
Tumblr media
Let’s face it, our media and culture are awash in self-help, be-happy, romanticized relationship advice; knowing where to go to get support and research-backed tools can be daunting. So this week (as promised), I sat down and compiled a list of my favorite top five resources for couples in crisis. Again and again, these are the materials I steer people to when their heart is hurting and they’re longing for more. Because while your relationship is unique, specific issues that you struggle with are probably not.
My field, marriage and family therapy, is in the middle of a renaissance, with thinkers like John Gottman, Stan Tatkin, and Brent Atkinson paving the way for deeper connection, secure functioning (regardless of your past), and healing from betrayal.
And given the current national shortage of couples therapists, it’s more important than ever that you have some tools that you can turn to independently.
So if I was stranded on a desert island with my partner (or at home locked down in the throws of a pandemic) and we were steeped in gridlock and negative sentiment, here are the top five resources I’d want to have packed in my bag, to set things right:
5) Codependent No More, Melody Beattie
Tumblr media
It took me decades to finally crack the cover of this modern classic and New York Times bestseller. As a professional, I was skeptical and wrongly assumed it was another pop-psychology self-help book. But when I finally got around to reading it, I was blown away by how helpful, practical and vital this book is. If you struggle with setting compassionate but firm boundaries, if you wonder whether someone else’s problem is your problem and have lost sight of your own life in the face of their struggles, this book will offer you immense guidance and support.
4) The Three Faces of Victim, Lynn Forest
Tumblr media
This online article is required reading for all new couples beginning therapy with me. Based on a diagram developed by a well-respected psychiatrist and teacher of Transactional Analysis named Stephen Karpman, it explains the “Victim Triangle.” In a nutshell, this article will help you determine your default position when navigating relationship challenges. Are you prone to rescuing? Do you collapse into victimhood? Or are you more likely to resort to blame and persecutory actions? Regardless of where you start, what is essential to comprehend is that we all are vulnerable to inhabiting each of these roles and that they have the propensity to become “shame generators” and perpetuate dysfunctional dynamics.
3) Your Brain on Love, Stan Tatkin
Tumblr media
An in-depth audio romp on attachment theory and brain science as seen through the lens of Stan Tatkin, Founder of the Psychobiological Approach to Couples Therapy (PACT). In this fantastic audiobook, Tatkin guides us through his proven principles and practices for building enduring security and commitment between couples, family members, and others that we love. His ideas are a welcome reprieve from our me-centered and autonomy-focused culture. Touting values, social justice, and interconnection, no relationship library is complete without this audiobook.
2) Daring Greatly, Brené Brown
Tumblr media
Yes, this book is not a “relationship” book. Yes, this book is not written explicitly for couples. But I wholeheartedly love this book, and for me, it was a game-changer. Perhaps more than anyone, Brown has taught me how to love well. That “clear is kind.” That values and courage are indispensable tools in the psychotherapy office. That the wholehearted sit side-by-side Gottman’s Masters of Marriage. And it was my certification in Brown’s Daring Way™ curriculum that inspired me to write John Gottman and Brené Brown on Running Headlong Into Heartbreak, the Gottman Institute’s number 1 blog in 2019. This book should be required reading for all humans.
1) Developing Habits for Relationship Success, Brent Atkinson
Tumblr media
If I had to pick one book to give all couples, it would be Developing Habits for Relationship Success by Brent Atkinson. As the Founder of the PEX method (Pragmatic Experiential Method for Improving Relationships), Atkinson has created a manual that will give you everything you need to get unstuck and move forward regardless of your circumstances. This book is required reading for all NCCT clients, and we consider it so essential we give a copy of it to every couple that attends NCCT for a private retreat or intensive. What makes the PEX approach so unique is that even one member of a couple can make use of it. So if you have a partner who refuses to go to couples therapy or won’t accept influence from you regardless of how skillful you are, the tools offered in this book are critical. Atkinson was the first to teach me about the importance of standing up skills. And not just why they are essential, but how to stand up well. He normalizes core differences. He proposes that we can always get further when we avoid defaulting to a perception of overall blame of our partner. In this sense, his ideas align beautifully with Brené Brown, who encourages us to assume people are doing the best they can, even when what they offer up is inadequate. And if that is not enough, this book, more than any other resource I know, will give you a plethora of exercises, concrete tools, and even audio clips (to listen to when you are freaking out). There is no other book comparable to it, and again and again, our clients tell us it is the most helpful thing they have ever read.
In summary, you can access many excellent tools from home with the click of a few keys on your laptop, and in turn, acquire an abundance of skills to shift problematic relationship dynamics without ever setting foot in a therapist’s office. Don’t get me wrong, couples therapy can be beneficial, and often it is the best way to move things along farther and faster. But having just finished offering my signature digital course, Crisis to Connected, I can assure you that we are all capable of growing and changing and that there are myriad ways to accomplish that.

i have to proposals for star wars plots that were never used and one of them has a spoiler so the one with the spoiler is under the cut:
star wars, except the force ghosts are like the ghosts in stardust. every time kylo ren speaks, everyone glares at anakin. obi wan is sitting looking Very Smug bc karma is a bitch. qui-gon jinn is glaring/sighing/smh-ing at obi wan.
tros alternate ending: everyone is celebrating their victory. there are hugs. kissing. happiness. the camera pans to the right and you see a semi-familiar tol head of black hair really tall dude with a really shitty blonde hair dye. people keep giving this guy weird looks. he seems familiar, but they can’t quite place why. his name is matt. he is a radar technician. he goes to live on tatooine with rey, he hates the sand. it gets everywhere.

Ok so I just have to first say I love your hot takes on GOT and ASOIAF on here. That being said, I'm CACKLING at Targ/Demented Tangerine stans on twitter screaming, crying, throwing up over Jace likely dumping Baela so he can marry Sara Snow. These are the same Targ stans that are crawled up Ratgar's ass who think RL did nothing wrong because ThEy WeRe iN LoVe. What happened now? I thought a targ breaking vows/his duty for some Not Like Other Girls Stark pussy was the height of romance 1/2
That being said, my ass will be seated for the Jace/Sara Snow cheating and future marriage arc which I hope Hess and co. don't bitch out on doing and will enjoy every minute of the targ stan tantrums on twitter while Baela continues to be the sentient pigeon that she is lmao. Targ stans truly stay taking L after L. 2/2
They are the most hypocritical fan base ever lmao. Sara Snow is literally the only thing that can make Jace interesting atp (whether he marries her or not) and would actually give some solid material to Rhaenyra. What leg is she gonna have to stand on when her kid copies her example? Will Jace finally confront the source of his anger at being called what he is? Will we finally get a discussion on his parentage, the price of her lies and the fact that everyone thinks she killed Laenor to marry her uncle? Probably not, because it kills the happy family/perfect mother narrative and they wouldn't like the backlash from the same crowd that was gagging over the disease that is R+L, like you said.
The Greens dysfunction is so interesting and carries the show, but there's a goldmine with the Blacks too. They're not some joyous blended family lmao, D&R married fifteen minutes after their spouses kicked it, didn't spare a thought for their children's grief. Daemon acts like his daughters don't exist and Rhaenyra lies about her kids' parentage. Her kids are also so sheltered and unprepared for their apparent birthright, she sent Luke (empty handed, too) out one time and he got eaten. There's so much the writers could do.
Just great potential for some excellent storylines with Sara Snow. Targ tears would be the icing.

Rating Dads in Naruto
Fugaku: 3/10. The emotionally distant father we all know. Did not cry when Itachi murdered everyone in their clan, did cry when Itachi got a girlfriend. Told Sasuke he was proud of him one time (but only when Itachi was busy).
Hiruzen: 1/10. Loved Asuma, probably. We can guess. Put his other kid AND child-in-law in the Murder Corps, even though they had a baby. Not especially clear if his other child is even alive or dead??? It’s hard to be more emotionally absent than Fugaku but Hiruzen spent almost no quality time with any relative other than Konohamaru, whom he literally named Village Boy. Simultaneously everyone’s father and no one’s father. He should probably get 0 for his orphan policies but he gets 1 bc that’s a government thing not a parenting action. Had a couple of parental moments with Iruka, at least.
Shibi: 7/10, came to rescue his son in Part I. Tried to keep both Shino and Torune away from Danzo in the anime. Has solid dad vibes. -3 simply because filling your child with beetles like they’re a maraca frightens me.
Hiashi: -6/10. Cannot think of a single reason why anyone would want Hiashi as a father. Outright awful to both of his daughters, but especially Hinata. Withheld Neji’s last parental message from his father until he publicly aired their clan mess out in front of everyone. I guess he didn’t put a caged bird seal on Hanabi but if that’s your metric for success the bar is so low it’s subterranean.
Hizashi: 5/10, wanted a better life for his son than he had. Died for Hiashi though, which is a mistake on anyone’s part. Probably should’ve given Neji that letter himself.
Choza: 8/10, spends a lot of quality time with his son, protected him, taught him jutsu, reassured him he would find love. Shamed Choji a bit for having bad ninja instincts, but to be fair, at the time, he did. The -2 is mostly for early Naruto when he is in the anti-Naruto mobs. Not a good example for the kids.
Shikaku: 6/10, kind of emotionally distant and only shows his love through board games, but there in his own awkward way when it counts. I would not throw him out at Dad-Mart.
Inoichi: 22/10, I love his ponytail and his definition of “optimistic love” is Sakura and Ino’s relationship. Also taught his daughter a lot, but the ponytail and wlw rights are enough for me to justify my rating.
Rasa: -10/10. You know why.
Dai: 9/10. Amazing dad. Remained a genin, the safest ninja career. Instilled values of love, perseverance, positivity and self-expression in Gai. Literally died for his son. Incredible 80s energy. -1 for teaching a baby a self-destruct jutsu.
Sakumo: 7/10, maybe should’ve tried some ninja therapy, bc his death was super traumatic for Kakashi. But seemingly had a good handle on the single dad thing when Kakashi was a young boy, encouraged Kakashi to become friends with Gai, and literally waited in Ninja Purgatory for like 20 years just so he and Kakashi could have emotional closure. Get you a dad as dedicated as that. Definition of “here for a good time, not a long time.” I also like his ponytail.
Minato: 4/10, one for each minute that he was a dad. Really good at speeches and hugs but he put Giant Weapon Pet in his newborn and then was gonna avoid single parenting via death seal even before he was impaled. Bruh. I forgive him for 38% of it because he’s handsome.
Old Dads R Us (Butsuma, Tajima, Hagoromo): -12/10, they all have stanky dad energy. Butsuma and Tajima try to use their kids as spies and make them fight to the death. Hagoromo describes his kids as genius and a dunce, and then leads them to fight through multiple cycles of rebirth. I know it was like, the Ninja Middle Ages or whatever, but they could each write a book on cultivating dysfunctional family dynamics.
Kizashi: 10/10, has a questionable hairstyle and even more questionable jokes. Barely canonical, but still a better influence in Sakura’s life than almost any other biological dad on this list. Is Sasuke’s father-in-law, which is the funniest fucking dynamic I can think of. I can think of no reason to knock points off. We stan.
Iruka: 10,000/10, the reason Naruto knows what love is, and therefore why the entire Ninja world knows what love is. Spends quality time, teaches Naruto values, tries to protect him, and literally acts as his father in the wedding. Doesn’t need genetic relation to radiate Incredible Dad Energy. I love him.

Whump Lists Questions and Concerns:
STREAMING SERVICES
With my whumplists, there are multiple different streaming services and sites that you can find these dramas and movies on.
There are unfortunately often changes when you go across platforms especially when episodes are different lengths or there are less episodes on a certain platform.
For example: A drama with 50 30-minute long episodes on one platform may be condensed to 25 1-hour long episodes. Sometimes that can also screw up any time stamps.
I try to make sure I list every change across platforms but I do miss it sometimes.
When I make whump lists and say they are on a certain platform, (Netflix, Viki, Amazon Prime, etc.) that means they are on the American version of that platform. I know Netflix has this issue with certain things only being available in certain countries so I don’t want to misinform anyone.
—-
TITLES
If you’ve been watching dramas out of Asia for any amount of time you may know this already but for those who might not or are new to Asian dramas: dramas will often have multiple names. Sometimes this is because they are not directly translated from Korean to English (or any other language for that matter) or they really do just have multiple names.
Like Angel’s Last Mission: Love is not the directly translated title. The title in Korean is 단, 하나의 사랑 (Dan, Only Love). English speaking streaming services use Angel’s Last Mission: Love as the title so that is what I list, myself, so it’s easier to find.
I have made an effort to list all names it is known by (as well as listing them in their original language) but sometimes I don’t know all the names.

MY WHUMP LIST MAKING PROCESS
Post Link >>> (LINK)
WHY DO LISTS TAKE SO LONG? - WHY IS MY REQUEST NOT HAPPENING? - etc.
To be fully transparent, I have ADHD. One of the symptoms I deal with that can be pretty bad is executive dysfunction. Basically what that means is when I say I don’t have “motivation” to do something, it’s not that I don’t want to do it. I most often do. It’s the fact that my brain doesn’t produce the “motivation chemical” that allows me to turn my thoughts/wants into actions. I promise I want to make more lists and do it faster. I just don’t have the motivation chemicals to make it happen. In other words: I don’t always get to decide what/when things get done. (However sometimes we all get lucky and I get so hyper focused that I upload multiple lists within a day or two lol) - If you have further questions, I am very happy to answer all of them! —- On top of that I work over 40 hours a week, have a family I try to spend time with, have friends I try to spend time with and am a K-pop stan that is fortunately well-fed content wise so there’s a lot going on for me lol. But every day I do my best to give y’all more and more lists and as fast as I possibly can!!! (Update: I am in no way saying lists are a chore or an inconvenience to me. I hope it doesn’t come off that way. If they were, I wouldn’t make them. Please don’t be discouraged from recommending/requesting!!!)
=======
Happy whumping!!!
