Book update: Lexos came back from the disastrous meeting of Stratagiozis where his dad made them both look bad by asking for help bc Rhea picking the other guy as her consort has irreparably alienated one of his territorial stewards and found his younger brother Nitsos, who their dad basically ignores all the time, in his room tinkering with Lexos's little spy bird (which Nitsos made.)
Something is up there... the bird arrived at Rhea's new home before, with an image of a mysterious token changing hands for her to investigate, and she sent back a response, but Nitsos said there was no response when Lexos asked him about it
Meanwhile, Rhea goes out for a stroll to meet up with her new husband and finds out to her surprise that the people of Ksigora hate her and hate Stratagiozis, especially her father. They don't recognize her until she meets up with Michali, who is well known and well liked, and then she gets spat on
She adjusts to the idea that the common people hate her family and that her father needs to change things more quickly and with less aristocratic outrage than one might expect, although she does keep hilariously insisting her family isn't THAT wealthy
Stuff isn't adding up... the people of Ksigora make kymitha, which is a special type of candy made from a memory, which she was told was only something her family does, and they do it better than she ever has... and they were supposed to have taken their church down forever ago, but Michali said only a hundred years or so... hmmmMMMM the world is NOT as she expects it to be
Michali invited her to his room to make it look to everyone else like they were sleeping together, but they just had a small argument and then went to bed with no advances being made. When he emptied out his coat pockets, Rhea saw - DUN DUN DUN - the mysterious token from before!
She waited until he fell asleep, took it, went outside, somehow managed to row herself across the lake despite never having done so before, and went wandering through the late night (maybe early morning at this point) city streets to the ruins of the church, where she eventually found a little slot which the mysterious token fits into perfectly...
And that's where I've left off, she's exploring this secret hideout of the rebels, which I'm sure will go great for her

Emergency funds needed for South Sudanese refugees
Hi all, long story short, Abdul and his friends need more money quickly as food is becoming scarce in his camp due to shop closure and an increase in refugees.
I've been supporting him as much as I can but I've only just started working again and have bills of my own which eat up most of my check. Any amount donated is immensely appreciated!
I want to end this by saying I'm incredibly grateful for all the help you've shown Abdul. Just a few days ago I had the honor of sending him a couple hundred dollars that'd been raised over the past few weeks. To see photos and videos of Abdul you can check out #abdulfund on my blog
Below I've copied a message of what Abdul has told me over whatsapp:
Hello my friend hopefully you are doing well today I would like to inform you about a very very important issue happening here at the camp, yesterday but one there happened a gun fire outbreak in juba capital between the army and the natives of different tribes and it left to curfews in juba plus all other places in the country,
Yesterday all shops in camp where closed but today some shops have opened but the army is patrolling the whole camp now we have been warned to stock food as the shop keepers cannot move to the capital to get us usages,
I would ask for some urgent support for food so that as we still not aware of when the curfew will end so please I am humbly asking you to help me with some funds so that I can stock food such that I don't starve in this miserable situation happening at the camp.
I hope you are able to see on internet what is currently happening in juba and the neighborhood centers in south Sudan.
The struggle left almost 50 people dead and also in camp the struggle left some police officers killed as well as a few refugees from Ethiopia but at least the security is a bit tight at the camp because we are some miles away from the capital as the camp is in the desert surrounded by military baracks it's what keeps us a bit safer from these attacks and UN has its army base close to the camp.
I will keep you updated on our situation
Thanks yours Abdul luyombya.

I want a second cat so much... I would like there to be another cat for susu to bond and play with bc he's definitely Bored And Lonely more without valorie even with me trying to play with and pet him more and taking him for daily walks
AND I want to find some nice overlooked adult shelter cat to give a nice life with treats and toys and an apartment with lots of little hiding places and such
HOWever it would be an extremely financially irresponsible move right now. So I cannot acquire another cat. But the longing is real

Just got reminded of the fact that people have historically sometimes been very mean to cats and am now gripped by a deep and inconsolable grief

eSims are still needed, especially Nomad brand (as of January 2025). Use discount code NOMADCNG.
Do NOT activate the eSim. Find the QR code in the email. Screenshot the QR code. Take a clear screenshot of the QR code and send it to [email protected]. Make sure to send 1 email for each esim you donate. Helps to have the expiration date in the email subject line.

Since the summary on the inside flap says that the twins are going to come to very different conclusions about their father's method of ruling, I assume one of them will be anti-Baba and one will be pro-Baba... but I'm not sure yet who will be who.
At the beginning of the book, Rhea is a lot more obedient and worried about pissing their dad off. Lexos meanwhile often disagrees with his approach and seems willing to go behind his back to do things in a way he thinks is better. BUT he's also still quite loyal and sees this as himself shoring up his father's weaknesses rather than undermining him.
Both of them are being put in a position to learn hard truths about the state of their nation that they've been insulated from up until now. Rhea is in the poor and frigid north, working to infiltrate rebels and will presumably find out why they're rebelling, while Lexos is being told outright by friends that his people are suffering in ways he wasn't aware of.
Lexos seems more anti-Baba at the start, but it could be a fascinating bit of irony if he ends up clinging to his attempts to keep his father in power and crush the rebellion while Rhea, previously largely unconcerned with the politics of it all, decides that actually, Baba Needs To Go.
Book update: I just finished the scene where Rhea chooses her brother Lexos's pick for the season's consort instead of her father's, and now we have the aftermath.
Both twins were summoned to their father's study, where he sweetly called Rhea pretty but stupid, then took off his glove and made Lexos hit her across the face with it repeatedly.
👀 okay, Baba, damn

Rhea went north with her winter consort Michali, and they got attacked at a river crossing, although he somehow knew that there would only be one volley of arrows... curious!
I might just have forgotten this from the first part of the book, but I'm not entirely sure why a family who is allegedly spearheading a rebellion against their liege lord would send their only son and heir to be said liege lord's daughter's seasonal consort when that entails her living with them for the season and him inevitably dying. Seems like they could just Not.
Meanwhile, Lexos is venturing out into the world with his Baba to talk to some allies. He has a Lovely Lady Friend who he's happy to see, and who delivered him some concerning news that the Speros family, who Baba wanted Rhea to pick, have been writing to others to ally against Baba. He's also heard some concerning talk from her that apparently his people are suffering, which is news to him, because he never leaves the isolated family home where his immortal magic family lives and creates reality for their citizens.
