TWST ch6 on EN and TWST EN's censoring - How the HELL?

Below the cut is spoilers for some major parts of TWST's storyline, particularly books 4 + 6 and miscellaneous spoilers for stories/events that aren't story-important (such as Ruggie's backstory and the Phantom Bride event)

Hey, Alpaca's back again with a TWST rant! So... with the leaks I've seen of the February schedule, we're probably getting Ignihyde dorm cards in February. Which means book 6 soon!

As an Idia Shroud enthusiast, I'm PUMPED for that dorm card and to be able to play TWST for an extended period of time because my attention span just can't sit there and grind with no purpose. However, I've also read translations for book 6, and with my combined knowledge of book 6, the backstory of the Shroud brothers, and the themes in the translation of TWST EN, I'm also scared.

Death and grief are a HUGE part of Idia and Ortho's characters. Ortho as we know him wouldn't even exist without death and grief. However, EN has a tendency to censor things regarding death and murder. [1] This is most notable in their censoring in the Phantom Bride event, where Idia is dragged into marrying a ghost named Eliza against his will who ends up ditching him for another ghost. In the Japanese version, they seem to be very on the nose with the fact that if Eliza were to marry Idia, he would die. But on the English version, if my memory suits me right, it's said that Idia would join Eliza in the spirit realm and not much else. They've even censored parts in Ruggie's story where it's mentioned that his mother died shortly after giving birth to him.

With their aversion to talking about a concept like death... censoring book 6 would completely undermine everything about the Shrouds. From Ortho's reason to even exist to why Idia overblotted. The entire book surrounds death to such a degree that separating the concept from the book will COMPLETELY alter the Shroud brother's characters.

I believe it'd end up similar to book 4. Book 4 also had an essential part censored - Jamil and Kalim's master/servant relationship. Their relationship is the entire reason why Jamil tried to usurp Kalim, it's the exact reason why Jamil holds a grudge against Kalim, even if their relationship isn't Kalim's fault. TWST EN avoids Jamil referring to Kalim as his master and avoids him referring to himself as a servant. I can't think of a solid reason as to why this change was made, maybe it's North American culture, but it just undermined Jamil's motivation for everything he did in book 4. If Jamil just worked for Kalim and wasn't born into being his servant, why was his jealousy so strong?

Just as the erasure of Jamil's role as Kalim's servant altered his motivations, Ortho not dying or the idea that he is dead would alter Idia's motivations. The loss of a loved one is the entire reason why Idia rebuilt him, accepted the fact he'd never be free from the curse, locked himself away, and basically attempted to kill himself just to be with his brother again. The "real" Ortho's death is why Ortho teams up with his other self in book 6 in the first place, he wants to be like the person he was modeled after so he can see his brother happy again.

If they remove death from the story of Idia and Ortho, they might as well make them different characters.

However, I can imagine one way that would be remedied. If Idia remembers that he "lost" Ortho in some way, didn't remember how, yet still felt responsible for it, the extent of his grief likely wouldn't change. Of course, it'd be a little upsetting they're erasing such an integral part of his character, but if they're going for censoring without altering the story, that's their best bet. Even then, Ortho dying would have to be somewhat implied. How else would he be in the underworld? How else would he have that conversation with Idia after his overblot convincing him to stay? (Oof... that whole convo would be censored too, wouldn't it? This entire book is DARK.)

[1] Correction; Phantom Bride was not as censored as I thought. I completrly forgot any Idia saying he would "literally DIE" if him and Eliza "smoocharoo" which is bullied him relentlessly for. Tbf... I didn't read it as intently and I read Firelit Skies or WUAS lmao. I think I was extremely loopy when I wrote this.

Jamil Info Compilation part 26: Jamil in the English-Language Adaptation

During Firelit Sky we learn that Jamil, much like Idia, does not like tradition and customs.

He was rewritten on EN, however, into a character that prioritizes his history and chooses to uphold tradition.

Many of Jamil's lines were changed for EN:

Original Jamil: If I did something like that and Kalim’s father found out, the Viper family would suffer for it.

EN Jamil: Not to mention the lecture I would get from my parents

Original Jamil: I’m sorry, but I’m not going to put my whole family on the street because of my selfishness.

EN Jamil: I’m sorry, but it just wouldn’t be right.

Original Prefect Option: That doesn’t seem like a responsibility that a child should be burdened with…

EN Prefect Option: I guess you make a good point.

Original Jamil: That is the fate of those born a Viper.

EN Jamil: (removed)

Original Jamil: A game of pretending to be masters and servants?

EN Jamil: (removed)

Original Jamil: I’ve been a servant of the Asim house since I was born.

EN Jamil: I’ve always been loyal of the Asim house.

Original Jamil: Masters are masters, and servants are servants.

Original Jamil: And it would be unacceptable for a servant to refuse and order from his master…!

EN Jamil: And it would be unacceptable for an employee to refuse and order from his boss…

Original Jamil: I’m just a servant.

EN Jamil: I’m just a dedicated employee.

(Jamil actually does use the word employee/staff when referring to other people employed by the Asim family, just not for himself)

Original Jamil: The lord/lady of the manor

EN Jamil: your father/mother

Original Jamil: Master

EN Jamil: Employer

Original Malleus: …a servant of the merchant family, Asim.

EN Malleus: …the merchant family that employs you.

Original Jamil: I have a generous master

EN Jamil: Kalim is a big spender.

Master/servant is wording that has been taken directly from Disney’s Aladdin, but it gets removed very often from the EN adaptation of Twst, disappearing from Jamil’s dialogue in Book 6, Jamil’s birthday and Jamil’s unique magic in Book 5, though it returns in Book 6, so maybe it was judged to be more appropriate for the STYX staff member than it was for Neige?

Question: If you had a parrot, what’s the first word you’d teach it?

Original Jamil: Probably “master.”

EN Jamil: Probably “Hello.”

Original Jamil: It's important to teach hierarchy, right?

EN Jamil: Is that…too obvious?

EN also has the one time that Jamil refers to Kalim with the “-sama” honorific removed.

Though sometimes ignoring JP’s “-sama,” sometimes they don’t!

It has thus far been translated as “Master,” “O Great,” “Housewarden,” “O mighty,” “Count” and “Mr.”

One time Cater was working on a potion in class and dropped his phone down the cauldron, it completely melted away. Safe to say he never brings his phone to that class ever again. (Trey baked him goods to make him feel better about losing the phone)

Deuce’s mom got pregnant when she was young and still in Highschool. She became a single mother and had to drop out in order to support him. Deuce didn’t find out about this till way later in middle school and it became the main reason why he wants to become a better student.

Ruggie is crazy good with kids, he basically became the neighborhoods permanent older brother.

The horror movies in twisted wonderland are actually a lot more tame than in the real world.

One time Yuu watched a scary movie with the 1st years and everyone was shitting their pants while Yuu just stood there like “🧍this is goosebumps level horror”

Yuu explained the plot to Hereditary once as an example of what type of horror movies their world had. The 1st years never want to watch a movie from their world. Like ever.

Also medical treatments in TWST are a lot nicer and painless. They use magic for a lot of injuries. Got a deep cut? Magic! You’re sick with some virus? Magic! Magic cures all! It even works on ppl who can’t use magic

Oh but it doesn’t work on Yuu since they’re from a different world

One time Yuu got a cut pretty deep and needed stitches

Having to explain what stitches were to the professors was a strange experience. The students thought it was some form of torture method.

“So you just get sewed up like some ripped teddy bear?!

Wait until you explain to them what Shots are. Or how getting blood samples work in your world.

Oh but the dentist treatment is fairly the same in both worlds.

No one in heartslabyul can handle spicy foods (except for Deuce)

While at Scarabia spicy food is like the main meal and everyone LOVES it.

One time Kalim invited Riddle, Trey, and Cater to come eat dinner at his dorm. Let’s just say some things happened and Jamil now learns to tame down the spice whenever anyone from Heartslabyul comes over.

Cater has photos of Trey and Riddle from that day. He was threaten to never share it with anyone. (He looks at them sometimes to get a good laugh even tho he was also dying that day from the spice)

Yuu once made an Ice Cream cake for Malleus birthday. At first he was a bit disappointed that Yuu brought him a cake since he’s not a big fan of them, but was absolute flabbergasted when he bit into it. He now demands Yuu to teach him the recipe.

Sometimes the Leech twins will have full on fist fights in the Dorms lounge area. Not cuz they hate eachother or anything, that’s just how they are. Everyone at the dorm is so used to seeing them fight to the point where people start betting on which brother would win. Yes Azul was behind this.

Listen Rook would absolutely love the “Masochism Tango” song

Idia helped build an AC unit at Ramshackle Dorm only because Yuu kept staying over at his dorm when it would get hot outside.

There’s a story that floats around the school about Sams shop. Apparently a student years ago tried stealing something from the store and the student ended up turning into a frog, they completely disappeared after that. No one knows if the story’s true or not. Still no one dares stealing from his shop.

Kalim is surprisingly really good at Slide puzzles. He was able to solve a 6x6 puzzle in under a minute.

When Malleus was a child a frog wrapped its tongue around his horn and it freaked him out. He tried grabbing the frog but it was too slimy. Lilia ended up finding him curled up in a ball outside his backyard with a frog sitting on his head. Yeah he HATES frogs now.

Silver likes frogs tho he thinks they’re cute. Once when he was a kid he brought a frog into the house when Malleus was visiting. Malleus out of instinct SMACKED the frog straight into the wall.

Silver didn’t talk to Malleus for like a week straight after that. (Sebek was not so pleased about it)

The only person higher than Malleus in Sebeks mind is his mother. He’s such a mamas boy and want’s to become strong enough to not only protect Malleus but also to protect her.

Listen Sebeks dad is literally just some guy. Imagine Allen from Barbie. He’s still a great dad and husband tho

Good morning! It’s still morning for me. I’m sorry Viper I’m gonna break character. I just filled up my water bottle actually so yes I am drinking water don’t worry! I usually drink about 32 oz or more every day because I fear dehydration. I hate seeing my veins in my hands and I was told it’s from a lack of water so I drink it as often as I can. Sometimes… I slack off haha!~!

I am breaking character because I’m gonna start moaning obnoxiously loud.

I’ve been tryna’ fuck Shu, Ayato, and Yuma freak nasty style since the day I was born. Moaning in his ear? Hell nah I’m YODELEHHEEHOOOOOO~ I NEED HIM NOOOOOOOW!!!!! I grew up in the prime era of Otome VN games and I am actually obsessed with DiaLove to this day. I have the Japanese games saved on my wishlist to eventually buy because you don’t need a Japanese switch to play imported games. They never were translated in EN because of their extreme content.

I secretly write and then delete everything because it really is one big Dark Fantasy game and I love it a lot. Even if the content can be seen as very problematic now? I still love it. Laito is such a tragic character, but the comparison of him and Cater makes me giggle a bit. Seeing them… I imagine… Maybe that would be an exciting crossover. But most of them would get suspended for sexual harassment… Sehara…

Hello again! Anon who sent the vent over antis here. Thank you so much for taking the time giving me such long and encouraging response. To be honest, I am in the Genshin fandom, which is bigger and, sadly, full of antis, so I have experience when it comes to block annoying children. I also have like 80% of the EnTWST fandom blocked lol. In general, "proship DNI" account I see, is an account I immediately block (they're asking us to do that, so we're happy to oblige, right?). I have most of the vocal antis from the fandom blocked on Twitter, and even if it means less people finding my art, I don't care because at the end of the day I want to surround myself with people who support me and won't put me at the stake for shipping/"sexualizing" pixels. I'm really sorry to know that you guys got a lot of hate, but I'm happy to know that you will continue and that you have so much people defending you. Thank you for the advice on blocking people who interact with a certain kind of posts, I'll do that! Once again, thank you for your words and your drawings, thank you for giving the TWST fandom a lot of quality and original, fresh content every day. I'll continue to support you!! Oof, anything I hear from the Genshin fandom is usually bad news (mostly because of how big it is – naturally it’s going to have more “bad apples”)… I’m very sorry that you have to deal with all this.

We totally agree, sometimes you really just have to block 80% of the EN fandom lol, but anyone with the “proship DNI” pretty much invites the banhammer themselves. It’s really helpful lol

We hope you’ll stay surrounded by people who are open-minded and willing to appreciate your art or ignore it if the subject matter doesn’t suit their fancy. Why do you play twst en if you hate it sm?

Firstly, I don’t “hate” TWST EN, nor have I ever stated that I feel that way about it. All I’ve ever done is point out differences that I feel impact how the work or its characters can be interpreted between the two versions and expressed my disagreement about some things in EN (albeit sometimes in an over-the-top way). It’s an area of great interest for me as a writer, as official content informs how I myself portray the characters and the world in my own works 💦 I’d appreciate it if you didn’t make assumptions about what my feelings are about the localization, especially if you’re going to use a word as strong as “hate”.

Even in my earliest discussions of TWST EN, I’ve only ever referred to the localization as a “mixed bag”. In my initial reaction post, I am fairly balanced about the matter and state things that I liked, that I disliked, and that I was neutral on. At no point do I blindly rage about EN, imply that TWST JP is somehow “superior”, or tear others down for enjoying EN or for working on the localization team. I try my best to speak mindfully and to explain my thought process when I point out a discrepancy between the JP and EN. Both have their flaws, and the original material presented in JP certainly isn’t without critique. (I’ve spoken at length about my feelings on Endless Halloween Night and episode 2.)

It is possible to enjoy media while also not agreeing with every single aspect of it and being critical of the changes made. For example, I personally enjoy the puns that are often included in the localized titles for the events, and I’m interested in seeing EN’s interpretation of the characters’ lines, even if they may not be entirely accurate to the source material. In fact, I think EN nails some of them super well (especially Ace and Idia)!! Others read like entirely different characters, and that’s important to make note of. Yuu’s dialogue choices also have a lot more personality and sass in them, which I like. However, I can also disagree with some of the decisions made in localizing TWST.

Sometimes there was nothing wrong with the original to warrant a change (like unique magic in JP to signature spell in EN). Sometimes a change doesn’t make sense or is inconsistent (like, why keep Floyd’s favorite food as takoyaki in his official EN profile, but also censor takoyaki in the text for the cultural festival scene and replace it with another food entirely). Sometimes there is cut content that contributes to a character or to the story (such as the erasure of weight, the uncomfortable history between Kalim and Jamil’s family, and a whole song in episode 5). Sometimes there are blatant mistakes (misspellings, grammar errors, incorrect information) in a professional work backed by Disney and Aniplex, whose higher ups can afford to put more money and marketing into the project.

These are perfectly valid points for anyone to make, and I feel that if players notice things, then they have a right to talk about it. (That’s why the game takes feedback and patches the app to fix stuff.) It doesn’t mean that I (or anyone else that critiques EN) dislike the localization as a whole. There’s plenty to like about it, but it also isn’t free from scrutiny.

Please recognize that there is a difference between “critique” and “hate”. “Critique” is analytical and is done with the intent of sharing knowledge, having a critical discussion, or because the person giving critique cares about the work and how others perceive and react to it. “Why does this not work well? What would work better and why? What was the thinking behind this move?” This does not hurt anyone. “Hate” is a passionate dislike for the work, oftentimes without considering other points of view or the good aspects of it. Hate does hurt and/or attack people, be it fans of that work, the dev team, etc. Sharing thoughts is not a binary of “love” on one end and “hate” on the other end; nuanced thoughts are allowed and should be encouraged in fandom spaces.

I’m playing EN for the same reason that everyone else is: because I want to experience it and to have fun in my own way. There’s nothing more to it than that.

Got the second volume of the TWST manga today, and Lilia showed up for the first time. It was such a cute scene with him^^

Bet it was the same as in the game, but I can't play that. I'm Idia's worst nightmare, I have a Nokia from 2009. His tablet won't stand a chance against my brick and then he'd either have to make a new one, or attend class in person

I have the first two volumes, i'm slowly collecting each of em' like pokemon as they get released in EN...heueheuehue. He's always adorable and makes me giggle when he pops up. Even tho sometimes I feel like he looks a little weird in the manga sometimes... (hopefully nobody hates me for that comment SDL:KFJLKJ I still love him)

In-game he first comes up during book two, I think? When he chastises Leona. It was kinda hot ngl. And then he pops upside down and scares you when he hands you the letter from Malleus, heuheu. But I also have horrible memory, so I probably forget.

LMAO your phone being practically bullet proof vs Idias fragile technology. He'd flame you for it. Even the shitty ass phone Crowley gives you is bound to be better (in Idias professional opinion)

Can I ask why does everyone like Grim? Not that I dislike or hate him but I’ve seen some people who absolutely love him and being besties w him and I’m just like ??? Did I miss the part where he became a total sweetheart? If anything I’m just used to his antics and knacks for trouble….

Genuinely tho, is it bc the eng does a poor job translating mc and grims relationship progress, or did I really miss the parts where he is a much better beast? All I can remember is the trouble he brings and the fact mc just goes w it…? Oh and then the part where he “attacks” us, tho ik it wasn’t really HIM but do to the stones he eats…

Of course you can ask anonie, and while I can't speak for others on why they like him so much, I can give my personal views.

Personally, I didn't like Grim very much in the beginning. I thought he was annoying to say the least, and didn't very much like how he would get MC into trouble along with the others, especially since it seemed early on most of the actions were taken by him to move the story forward rather than MC which I can understand since MC can't communicate all the time and someone else has too. But, it was getting annoying real quick how much trouble he would cause, but I guess as time went on, I got softer for him.

This is mainly because how others portrayed him and how they viewed him in fanfics and art that I started to change my mind. After all, Grim was one of your first companions in Twisted Wonderland and he very much parallels you.

He was the first one you met in twisted wonderland.

He has no ideas of any of the customs or backgrounds on this land.

He is alone as well and can’t recall where he came from.

He’s just trying his best to succeed and become strong.

He’s literally your partner in school as a 2 in 1 student.

He shows moments of companionship and softness towards MC.

At the end of the day, Grim is a friend and someone who is basically in the same situation as you.

Those are the reasons off the top of my head on why I started liking him more and more, but it doesn't mean I don’t want to sometimes shake him out of frustration or just keep his tuna away when he causes trouble.

Another reason why I started liking him more was because of book 6. I’m guessing from your ask that you are an EN Twst player only so I won’t expand further, but there are instances within the book where I started feeling softer for him and even sad. Basically, half the fandom went, “give my cat back right now.” 

I also think we all have a version of Grim in our heads as well, and how we perceive him that makes us like or hate (or both) him. I also know that his chaotic energy is attractive to some people and I know that some people just want to see him grow and see how he plays a part in the Prologue. He wants to be one of the greatest wizards and some want to see how he achieves it.

Mmm… maybe a lioness beastwoman?? If we're being actually realistic it would be a simple human but we're having fun here hahah

I don't really fit completely in either, but since RSA would be to stuck up, probably NRC.

What dorm would you belong to?

Ignihyde, but I refuse. I wish it were Savanaclaw, but I won't be xD

I would probably get along best with Rook? And Epel too. I'd probably get along with Cater and Kalim too, even if they'd be too extroverted for my poor introverted soul hahaha Also… Trey too. He seems nice to hang out with.

fighting for the front car seat, fighting for the last bite of leftover ice cream, fighting for something that your dad bought and the list goes on...

that was when you two were still kids, now...

actually, nothing changed, you two still bicker a lot

and at times, both you and ace would just lay down in the living room and just talk about whatever the fuck is interesting at that time

although 80% of his visit to your classroom (or dorm sometimes) was with the sole reason to annoy you, the other 20% is to help you with whatever you're doing or if you forgot anything in particular

but of course, ace being ace, he was the worst tutor anyone could've asked for

well, at least he show some effort to be a 'good' older sibling

back during those times, he always talk back at you when you scold him (whether it's after a fight with someone or just skipping lessons/school/etc...)

sure, old deuce gave you headache after headache that you even had to rant it all out to your mother about it at one point

but regardless, he's your brother and you're here when he will finally turn to the better light

and thank the great sevens, your wish had been accepted

your dear brother deuce started being a lot more nicer to you and your mother during the days before your enrollment in NRC

that and the huge decrease of fights in his school

of course, you had a few suspicion on the 180, but it all ended with quite a heartwarming statement from your brother

"I...I wanted to turn a new leaf! I know I wasn't the greatest at treating you and mom and with the problems I've caused, but...but! I will try my best to be a better person, someone you can be proud of, ______!"

you're always proud of deuce and now, you're prouder than ever to be known as his sibling

although deuce had changed for the better, you still look after him occasionally

checking up on him, giving him foods during recess and helping him on his studies

though, if you noticed that he's starting to get bored during your tutoring session with him, you would stop right then

and just do whatever you and deuce decided to do

jack absolutely admire and respect you both as a role model and his eldest sibling

you're the one he go to when he need advices or just someone to talk with

and if he's being honest here, you're the reason why he's that bulky

he was frequently fed by you when you two were younger, cooking hearty and healthy meals with your mother whenever you can

(and by that, i meant you cook for him almost everyday)

but of course, at times you'd bake him sweets after a long day

just a little balance in there y'know

but uhhh, it may had seemed that you fed him too much meat

"Yes, yes, I shouldn't have fed him so much, but i mean, could you blame me? Also, he's growing very fast and that's certainly good, ain't it?" -you to your mother

alls good though, jack grow into a healthy boy thanks to you (your mother have that to thank you)

another one where the sibling bond is very much strong

when he have to save himself from the doom of his other first years, he'd go to you

cause if i had to say it, then the first years (especially adeuce) are rather afraid of you

you've made a name of yourself when you first enrolled in NRC

although most are blatant rumors that aren't true (examples being the news of you beating the shit out of your seniors when they messed with you or how you managed to pull out a ground-deep metal case with just two fingers)

'people these days really love to make up things to gather unwanted attention...,' jack thought to himself

he knew that you're capable of doing those rumors, he'd admit it

but would you do it tho? not really

you're rather reserved to yourself and rather not do things just for the sake of getting recognition, cause like what you've said to him,

"The only times you should show what you're capable of is when it's needed, doing it just for show and tell isn't going to do you good. Admiration is fine but respect is what you should seek for,"

he had never been prouder for being the older one

whether it's carrying baskets of apples from trees or studying for subjects you're struggling on, epel's always there to help whatever and whenever he can

(not to mention that he also get ego boosts whenever you say something along the lines of "thank you, big brother!")

speaking of helping, you two support each other with everything!

you 100% encourage epel on his passion to be a lot more stronger and to be a more reliable person to not only you, but to other people around him too

and he most definitely cheered you on with you own passion so it's quite literally a win-win situation

both of you are absolutely inseparable, and the only times you two aren't with each other are either in your respective classes,

or if the other needs personal space or want to hang out with other friends

epel most definitely have brag once or twice about how he's a very dependable older sibling to his fellow first years (and news flash, it's true)

you are the person he has high respect for (second to malleus obviously)

not only because you're his sibling, but also because your magic is the type that he really wanted to master when he was still a kid

which is how you became his magic instructor on a good weekend

teaching him all sorts of spells and giving him tips on how to channel his mind into his magic

though, it's quite challenging for him to fully comprehend it

it's not that you're bad at explaining stuff, no, you're terribly good at it is what he would say

but he's having a tough time focusing on that concept you told him

sebek (kid sebek lmao) would sulk if he can't succeed in casting a certain spell that you taught him

and you most certainly have to persuade him with whatever words that make you sound wise or shit

yes, unbeknownst to sebek, you're quite the dumbass than what he perceives you as

but would you say that to your younger brother?

absolutely not

you'd rather have shit stains on every shoe you have than admit such things to him

also, you'd be embarrassed if you told him of all people (both of your eldest sister and brother knew about your real nature and thankfully, they have no tendency to spill secrets)

anyway,, although it's like that most of the time, you do have your moments of wisdom to share with your good ol brother

"Listen here, Sebby. There are people who wouldn't instantly succeed on something during their first time, and you know what? I also wasn't the fastest learner in magic,"

but like what you said, you're still learning at the end of the day

so sebek (and yourself) have a lot to learn about and, well, it seems like your lessons have paid off

"Good job, Sebek! I knew you had it in ya,"

After that first success, he started nailing off with spell after spell, it was a sight to behold to be honestly and you're very much proud of sebek's accomplishments

though, he sometimes views magic as some sorta, objective type of thing where you have to think critically and you have to follow the procedure word by word

some parts of that are true but magic is still mainly a subjective thing

you have to put your mind and prolly feelings to it to make it more effective rather than eating up the main rules like it's your last meal

but you wouldn't judge him for it, he's young and impressionable so he might figure it out by himself (hopefully)

(a little bit lengthy for the backstory shit,,,)

if you guessed that you're the one who has to stop him from impulsively yelling at people and saying absolutely blunt shit then you're absolutely right

when you have the chance, you would be with sebek and before he can unconsciously yell stuff, you'd instantly cover his mouth and mumble an apology to the person he was talking to or escalate something he said,

"I'm sorry, but please don't take it to heart, he's just a little bit...direct, so again sorry,"

you especially feel bad for that ramshackle student, not to mention that they have no magic AND is from another world, poor them

who are you kidding? your beloved crocodile brother is still sulky when his other diasomnia residents aren't looking

you're prolly the only one (besides the rest of your family) have seen him like this

because he's very comfortable with not trying to look high and mighty in front of you

though, you did tease him about it a few times but all fun and games

another reason why you adore him very much is how excited and happy he looks when he successfully fulfills something for his young master or lilia or even you

it's pretty contagious and you find yourself smiling along

patting his back and saying, 'good job!'

you sometimes visit the equestrian club just to watch your dear brother ride along the horses and talk with him and silver during their breaks

though, sometimes you also have other reasons to visit the club...

sebek had a hunch with how he observed the way both you and silver's tone shifts whenever talking with each other

but he'd not pry on it, because it might be nothing, for sure!

this is like a very small dumb au i made because of azul brainrot taking over and me and my friend playing twst and still waiting for book 4 to come out in en servers

• Zhongli and Childe are in TWST-verse(?) and are Azul’s and Malleus’s parents

• Malleus is Zhongli’s adopted child from years ago

• Childe is the one who founded Azul and adopted him

• Azul’s is Childe’s favorite business criminal child meanwhile Zhongli sometimes beg to differ when he causes so much trouble

• Azul and Malleus also have an tough relationship of them either hating each other, but only because one sometimes refuses to talk to the other. Leading them to have a lot of misunderstandings

Like half the things Cater says either works or doesn't it's like I don't know what happened with him. Sometimes it's ok to just directly translate things.

But in the end we get a bunch of a memes and access to the bois easier. I'll take the EN translations as a weird memey fan translation that I won't take seriously.

CHEKA WAS THE SAVING GRACE OF THE HOT MESS THAT WAS EPISODE 2 😭 He really just came out of nowhere and stole my heart like that... hey Leona if you don’t like Cheka I can adopt him off your hands for ya, just get Falena to sign off on the release forms--

I don’t think I can say enough just how cute Cheka is????????? His sunny personality and innocence just lights up the whole room, and it contrasts well with how grumpy Leona is. BUAYOFV8ADY8FAASBPI AND HE CALLS LEONA “OJITAN” 😂 (Unca in TWST EN, which is significantly less cute to me, but acceptable)???????? Bruh, that moment of levity was what we really needed to distract from the rest of episode 2 yes I will shit on episode 2 every chance that I get.

It’s so clear that Cheka truly looks up to and adores his uncle. Cheka doesn’t come off as pompous as Simba is (like, remember when Simba just brags to Scar about how he’ll be king of Pride Rock?????), but he shares that same sense of childish obliviousness to the darker things around him. I don’t know, I just find it super endearing how Cheka loves Leona so much and wants to spend time with him despite Leona’s absolute repulsion. Cheka doesn’t let that get to him! He wants Leona to visit him at home, he wants Leona to read his letters, he wants Leona to teach him how to play Magical Shift/Spelldrive! That’s a kind of enthusiasm and pure, unadulterated joy that we don’t get to see often from the main cast of boys.

It’s a shame that we don’t get to see much more of Cheka beyond episode 2 (I think he gets a cameo in the first Halloween event, though it’s just via a phone call), but I get why that’s the case. It’s not like Cheka’s a main character or anything 😔 I just hope that he makes a comeback if/when we have an event where we get to visit the Sunset Savanna.

I’d love to learn more about Cheka and his relationships with the rest of the Kingscholar family, as well as how he deals with his security detail (since Cheka mentions slipping away from them to see Leona) and royal advisors, tutors, and servants (seeing as how Simba saw people like Zazu as a nag). Like, if Leona’s people hate him as much as he says they do (according to his post-OB backstory), then I wonder if Cheka is cognizant of that and if he actively defends his uncle. How does Cheka get along with his dad???? Or maybe we’ll learn why exactly Cheka looks up to Leona so much (besides just Cheka being a wide-eyed kid). I feel like there’s a lot of interesting ground we could cover!

Hey Jamil I’m really into your looks 😎 Think you can introduce me to your sister? Ignore me, it’s a stupid MHYK joke—

Can I just start off saying that I love Najma’s fashion sense???? Her clothes are very reminiscent of the traditional style associated with Silk City (based on what I can see of the Yasmina Silk cards), but has a modern twist to it. The patterns on her hairband and cardigan are absolutely mesmerizing without being too complicated for the eye to process at a glance, and her simple jewelry and mostly solid-colored top and pants don’t distract or compete with those patterns for attention. The turquoise sash at her waist makes the tassels of her shirt look really interesting, and the white flower in her hair is striking against her dark hair. HNNNNGH I just really love how Najma looks! The one thing that kind of throws me off about her is how similar her face is to Jamil’s 😂 which makes sense, because they’re siblings, but they look SO similar (especially their neutral expressions) that it scares me sometimes.

Najma’s interactions with the rest of the cast in the Scalding Sands event were so wholesome, but not in the same way that like... Cheka would be considered wholesome. She still expresses a sense of curiosity about the NRC kids, but she’s much more reserved about it. I also just find it hilarious that she sasses Jamil (like eating his shawarma) and tells embarrassing stories about him to his classmates; it’s very in line with what real life siblings tend to do to get on each other’s nerves. (I’m legally allowed to say that as someone with siblings/j) She’s so cute but in a lowkey shit-eating way...

I love seeing fan content of her; artists get so creative with her drip, and Najma looks good in like. EVERYTHING. My favorite Najma fan content has to be short comics where Najma has heard of some Dumb Shit that Jamil’s been up to and teasing him about it. For example, Jamil was a major part of NRC’s VDC performance; he had a whole rap and dance routine in the middle of it--and I remember seeing so many cute pieces of Najma imitating Jamil’s rap and dance while wearing a smug expression and Jamil getting all annoyed and/or embarrassed about it. IT’S TECHNICALLY NOT CANON, BUT IT SOUNDS LIKE IT COULD HAPPEN, RIGHT?????

I LIVE for Najma and Jamil’s dynamic. Something about all the little things they do and say to each other feels so real and so genuine. Even before we got to meet Najma face-to-face, Jamil would sometimes make remarks like how his little sister said his cooking looks boring (because it was all the same brownish color). Jamil may not exactly care for the act of cooking itself, but he has a lot of pride in his skills, and comments like that clearly get under his skin. AND THEN WHEN NAJMA STARTS TELLING THE GROUP STORIES ABOUT THE STUPID SHIT JAMIL USED TO DO AS A KID AND HE TRIES TO BE ALL COOL AND NONCHALANT ABOUT IT???????? The way they sound kind of exasperated to see each other? The whole “why are you here”, “dad said to come get you, I didn’t want to be here, I wanted to hang out with my friends” exchange???????? That’s so real it hurts 😂

I think that Najma got just enough screen time so as to not overstay her welcome or to overshadow the NRC boys, but I personally wish we got to see more of her (or at least have her make a cameo again in the future). I’m curious about what her relationship with Kalim is like (since it seems she also knows him and played with him in their childhoods)? And I also want to know what Najma’s thoughts are on the Viper family’s history of servitude to the Asims, or if she is or isn’t expected to carry on that legacy since she’s second born. Those would be really cool topics to explore!

Hi, can I ask what are some asks that you will answer? I have sent several asks and only some got replied so I wonder if you have some sort of rules, so as not to disturb or make you uncomfortable, of course. I really love your thoughts and analyses a lot!

I don’t really have explicitly written out rules for what I will and won’t respond to, as it would be impossible for me to cover every possible situation and topic of conversation 💦

I don’t necessarily ignore or delete asks only because the subject is uncomfortable; sometimes I don’t reply to them if I feel like I’d be repeating myself/have already responded to a similar ask in the past or if I feel like I have nothing else to really comment on or add. These are what I personally refer to as “empty” asks; they’re “empty” not because of the content or the sentiments being expressed, but because I’d be adding little to no value to them by responding.

Of course, there are also the inappropriate asks which I just don’t reply to for my own comfort. These are typically invasions of privacy (such as commenting on specifics regarding my real life or acting overly familiar with me), unnecessary/unwarranted character or TWST news hate (I’ve had people coming into my inbox just to bash a character or recent updates), or aggressively worded thoughts (I like hearing different opinions, but I’m not going to entertain asks that attack and degrade others in the process of sharing their own opinion).

I’m actually okay with discussing some (NOT all) topics usually considered triggering (example: racism), as I think it’s important to analyze media (ie Sebek’s racism is internalized and makes sense in the context of his background; the main story will probably try to fix this problematic worldview) rather than take it at face value (ie “wow Sebek is racist to humans and that’s his entire character”). I try to talk about these topics in a mindful manner and I will tag those posts with the proper content warnings for those who wish to avoid them.

Some topics that do make me go 😬 are pregnancy and the romanticization of bullying and mental/physical illness or conditions. I also don’t enjoy it when Yuu related asks or hypotheticals are gendered or when romance is treated like the default of every relationship, as I don’t like making such broad generalizations or excluding parts of the TWST fandom from the discussion.

It is also possible that it will take me some time to reply to your asks as I do have a lot and want to stay topical if there is an ongoing discussion about something. The current topic of interest seems to be Rook and his character, so I’m probably more likely to reply to asks about that sooner over other asks. The same goes for asks related to current TWST events (which would be Port Fest for JP and Culinary Crucibles for EN).
