I just realized something very cute about one of Beelzebub’s new voice lines, and I couldn’t resist sharing it.

So. In the new update, this is one of Beel’s new random dialogues in Nightbringer:

Very cute, very direct. But I was curious about the actual line in Japanese, because the spoken dialogue didn’t seem to match the English text.

After switching the app’s language and doing some digging, I finally got the voice line again in Japanese.

So, what’s up with this? “The moon is beautiful, isn’t it?” (月が綺麗ですね Tsuki ga kirei desu ne) is a well known indirect way to say “I love you” without actually saying it out loud. But of course, since Beel is Beel, he said “The moon looks delicious tonight” instead.

I find it quite charming that the translators chose to translate “The moon looks delicious” as “I want to eat you.” Though that makes the intended context of the line a bit different than what we got. He isn’t being as direct about it, but the sentiment is still there. It’s not just the moon that looks delicious, but you as well- and he hopes you get the message without having to spell it out.
