Hi former grants person here again. Reblogging this so that my previous post above about US arts grants sits at the top the notes. Hopefully it helps some artists in these trying times.

The status quo has shifted. This week, the current administration just tried to put a freeze on all federal grants. Universities, healthcare, and welfare programs were all discussed in the aftermath as potential victims of the freeze--in the handful of articles I read, arts funding was not mentioned, but it's absolutely still at risk. IMO everyone should be concerned.

The National Endowment for the Arts, the largest funding entity for art in the US, gets barely 0.003% of the annual budget (about $200 million). 80% of that gets regranted out all over the country, including a significant portion in rural areas. It's not even close to being enough money and the annual increases are meager. Regardless, that funding has a huge amount of impact.

Conservative administrations have tried to get rid of the NEA for decades under the guise of "budget cuts" (again, it gets ONLY 0.003% of the annual budget). But really it's because an NEA grant has the potential to fund art that doesn't align with their ideologies.

The freedom to create art without restriction or subjugation is symptom of and important for maintaining a healthy populace and functioning society.

Publicly funded art might not be higher priority than [insert program here], that doesn't mean it isn't important at all. It's closely tied to the wellbeing and values of the people in this country. Fascism and nationalism intentionally attack freedom of expression and aesthetics for this reason.

Alsoooo, Trump just reinstated his 2020 executive order demanding all new federal buildings must be designed in the neo-classical architecture style. That's straight up Nazi shit. And he reinstated this EO on his second day in office. Obviously they know the power in controlling aesthetics. This order was controversial when it first came about--it has a lot to do with enforcing regressive and "traditional values."

Grants programs still exist in this country at local, state, and national levels, for now*. Arts grants also often have DEIA missions attached to them, which should be an incentive for pretty much anyone to apply**. In my experience, until extremely recently, having DEIA criteria in your grants program was an almost necessary way to grow your regranting budget! It was one way to prove you were worthy of donations or taxpayer dollars. Grants also have the potential to fund more artists outside of the mainstream, particularly if there's no for-profit component.

So what can you do? (other than vote or talk to your representatives)

We want to demonstrate that artists of any discipline are plentiful, diverse, and deserve to be paid like any other worker. We want to prove that there is need for arts grants.

Artists/Dancers/Singers/etc.:

Make contact with your local arts councils and tell them what you need

Participate in the programs that might be available right now to you as an arts professional, like webinars and meet and greets

Participate in surveys that gather data about artists

Apply for shows, residencies, and open calls at arts organizations

Apply for grants! Make sure you go to information sessions if they have them! There's usually a friendly grants manager or associate who can answer your questions over phone/email too.

Follow grantmaking orgs on social media for job openings and application info. Sign up for their newsletters too.

Everyone:

Visit publicly funded cultural festivals, galleries, concerts, shows, etc. Especially if they're being offered for free.

Use your library. Go to parks. Enjoy the public art there.

Consider donating to grantmaking organizations or buying a membership to your arts council if they offer it

Follow arts orgs on social media

Go to small public events too, like community choir recitals or children's theater

*There are also nonprofits and foundations that will give grants that aren't entirely reliant on public money. But if the government starts cutting things, private/corporate sponsors will too.

**DEI initiatives put just as much emphasis on a person's gender or veteran status than it does on race/ethnicity. They might also consider other demographics like age, economic status, sexuality, professional background...it can be a long list. Read paperwork carefully and use it to your advantage when applying.

Tl;dr: The government will absolutely try to take away arts funding, but if you apply for grants and go to publicly funded arts venues/classes/events it will be much harder for them to make cuts.

If I were to explain it through LOA: think this, if you believe that your successful shift would be tonight, than there is not blockage there.

Second, shifting isn't a slow burn, in the middle of the night, affirming, sweating, no!

The way I see it, when you shift, you let yourself forget of your previous reality, and EVERYTHING associated with it, which also include the time period of shifting, and the fact that you were ever shifting realities- this makes it so, shifting isn't a graph, where your shift is rising up, but instead, an on and off switch- which is switched on by giving utmost importance to your dr, like the creator you are.

My main wr is actually my grandparents house in this reality! It's nostalgic, and makes me feel warm and relaxed when I'm there, like once again I am a carefree toddler, just running around.

If it's not that then it's a cosplay or some very very heavily anime coded fit whether that's the print or how a character dresses

The only way to get him to wear normal average clothes is to tell him (and show evidence sometimes) that it's an anime fit lol

Only cares if the clothes are comfortable enough to sleep in and even if they aren't he'll probably sleep in them still

Also has the ability to pull out a good fit from anything though you barley ever properly see it since he's often covered with a blanket or in some weird way that you can't see the fit properly

It's rare to see him actually care what he puts on but even even when he does you can be sure it's the most comfortable material that you've ever felt that now you're feeling kinda sleepy- (HEY HE SET US UP FOR A NAP DIDN'T HE!!!)

Let him dress you and you'll come out looking like a pillow, or something comfy and cuddly, or someone ready for bed or maybe all three (he planned this, you're his napping buddy now just let him use you to get comfy-)

Ghost x Reader

Summary: Your friends Victor, Emma and Sophia are over and think it’s a good idea to play with a Ouija board

Part 3

“Is it true you have a ghost in the house?” Emma asks, leaning in and grinning at your feigning reaction.

“Um… if you believe in that stuff.” You do, you totally do and after all, you’ve been allowing him play with your body- never quite escalating to sex but always helping you get off. But you do not dare to admit such a thing to your friends out of fear of sounding insane.

“Good- because I had a great idea!” Emma exclaims excitedly, pulling out an Ouija board much to your horror.

“Girl stop playin” Victor deadpans, unamused with Emma’s antics.

“Don’t be such a scaredy cat Victor! Aren’t you curious about who he is and why he’s here?” Sophia eggs you on, pushing the board at you- as if you really had a say in the matter.

“I-don’t know guys.” You were curious. Of course you want to get to know your supposed lover, but you were nervous that the cat would escape the bag.

Ever since you let him touch your body. The eerie feeling of being watched evolved to a constant state, regardless of if you’re running around doing chores or sitting on the couch- you feel the sensation of someone near. You even started to catch glimpses of a male figure right out the corner of your eye. It’s become so frequent, you don’t even spare a second glance anymore. Knowing it’s just the ghost in your house.

After consulting a haunted forum for advice, you tried to ignore him, but it only seemed to get worse. Your cash, keys, or purse and so on would go missing, and would often stay missing until you beg the house ghost to return your possessions to its rightful place. Beyond the eeriness of being observed, catching glimpses and having your belongings moved, it’s really not a bother to have a ghost. Especially when he takes care of your needs so well.

Though it’s apparent you two will be stuck together for quite sometime…

“Come on- what’s the worst that could happen?” Sophia encourages making Victor roll his eyes. As if acknowledging the ghost wasn’t bad enough, you might as well taunt it to do its worse.

“I ain’ touching this foolishness, but do what you want.” Victor states, patting his hair down nervously.

Emma giddly begins to set up the Ouija board, placing tea candles around to enhance the spooky aesthetics.

Sophia, Emma and you place your hands lightly on the planchet and move it to ‘Hello’. As soon as the circle hovers over the greeting the fuse box blows out and all the lights switch off leaving nothing but the candles to provide some light.

“Oh my god!” Victor exclaims taking a deep breath in to calm his frazzled nerves. “Oh dear Jesus!” He exclaims once again, placing his hand over his heart. “Look at what y’all made me do! Y’all making me pray to Jesus!”

You couldn’t have been more grateful to have Victor with you- his terror filled scolding only pulling away your fright with his humours antics. “Relax Victor- he likes you remember.” You taunt wiggling your eyebrows making Victor to suck on his teeth in irritation.

“What’s your name?” Sophia asks, the planchet moved immediately.

Sophia begins to grin at you. “Jack, are you the one haunting Y/n?”

The planchet slides to ‘Yes’

“Do you like Y/n?” Emma asks and the planchet circles and lands back on Yes.

“Will you hurt Y/n?” Victor asks and the planchet flys out from under the girls hands and lands on ‘no’

Leaving you behind with the Ouija board - the two girls scurry backwards into Victor, huddling together like baby birds in a nest, all holding each others hands in solidarity.

“What do you want?” You ask and the planchet slides.

Y. O. U.

The planchet slides off the table and all of the power switches on, lighting up the whole house. The old radio sitting in the corner switches on, a static sound blaring before the song ‘I’ll make love to you’ by Boys II Men begins to play. Your breath hitches in shock at the very brazen want expressed. You look over at Victor unsure on what to say, but he just shrugs his shoulders indifferently.

“You got yourself a lil ghost boyfriend.” He says with a little shimmy of the chest, immediately removing all of your stresses again. “Jay Jay, if you hurt my bestie we will exorcise this house.” He says.

The radio booms a static sound as the radio hums a new song ‘Never gonna let you down, Never gonna run around and desert you’ Victor sucks his teeth again.

“This bitch just Rick rolled me.” He says indignantly, immediately breaking all the tension hanging in the air, all three girls burst out laughing, returning back to the Ouija board.

“Guys- i don’t want to spell shit all night. Let’s download an EVP app so Jack can just talk.” Emma suggests pulling out her phone already tapping away at the App Store. She places the phone on top of the Ouija board, prompting Victor to ask his burning question.

“Why are you haunting Y/n?”

“Lonely.” Jack answers. Your heart just about jumps out of your throat. It’s not hard to imagine being stuck in the veil, watching the living go about life, not acknowledging you would be… torture. “I was wondering how much longer you were going to ignore me.” A shiver goes up your spine, knowing you were indeed trying to ignore Jack, hoping he will leave you alone.

“How’d you die?” Sophia asked, receiving slap to the arm from Emma. “Oh sorry, is that rude to ask?”

“I’m not actually dead, but I’m not alive either~” Jack answers ambiguously leaving you all to pass odd looks to each other. “Let’s just say, that witch craft was all the rage in the 90s and to never date a witch. Lesson. Learnt.”

Your mouth hangs open in shock.

You weren’t sure what you were more horrified by. The fact that Jack is becoming more coherent the longer you all engage him or by the fact that he’s the way he is because of… witch craft. The idea that you could be cursed in such a way was more terrifying than the idea of just dying and becoming a ghost.

“Can you show yourself?” You ask, causing Victor to place a death grip on your hand. “Just close your eyes Victor.” You say, squeezing his hand reassuringly.

You, Emma and Sophia, sit there with baited breaths, waiting for a creepy figure to appear before their eyes, and sure enough. Jacks misty ghost figure appears before your eyes, slowly he’s becoming more and more discernible. Emma and Sophia gasping in shock- causing Victor to almost crush your hand.

“What’s with that frowny face?” Jack coos, making your cheeks warm in embarrassment.

“I just thought I might get to see you.” You whisper, feeling his cold hand rake through your hair. Slowly, the transparent soul becomes more opaque, his body clad with baggy cargos and a baggy hoodie which is pulled up showing nothing but a black void. “Where’s your face?” You ask, reaching up to touch where his face should be, but Jack catches your wrists and holds your hand.

“Can’t show that to you boo - seeing a ghosts face means certain death for humans.” Your skin grows goose bumps. Hearing Jacks voice directly from the source, rather than through an EVP.

Jack leans in and whispers in your ear. “The more you acknowledge me- the more energy I get. Offerings and prayers will replenish my spirit.”

And just like that Jack disappeared.

Went to nonbinary support group earlier this evening. A fun and silly question was asked, “What’s your non-traditional gender?”. The person asking described their gender as some cigarette butts floating in a gross puddle, another person describing themself as a cigarette butt with lipstick stains on it, my love described themself as a bunny rabbit, and when it came around for me to answer I said I’m a dirty hippy. The person asking then spent ten minutes going off on me about how #problematic hippy culture is, ignoring multiple bids from me to say yeah there are things wrong with it I know full well but they did not relent, eventually remarking that punks look mean but are actually nice and hippies look nice but are actually mean and telling me my gender is pretty much folk punk anyway?? My love stopped the convo by asking the others in the group who didn’t get a chance to answer to do so but the vibe was not great after. This is such a strange and petty encounter but something about it still rubbed me the wrong way in such a way that continues to linger in my mind. What the fuck?

I made a map!

I’m pretty happy with how it’s turned out, I have never edited a map like this before. Hopefully I’ll improve the more I do this lol

The general setting is the (fictional) town of Pinecust, it’s kinda based off the town I grew up in. It was a small logging town out in the middle of the Pacific Northwest forest that had kinda lost a lot of it’s bustle decades before I came along. I’ve had a lot of fun kinda planning everything out and making little pieces(such as the map).

It's funny cause for the most part of the game, I didn't really care about people's criticisms of Engage's writing and thought they were just mad the story was straightforward and didn't try to be overly complex... But now that I'm (finally) reaching the endgame, there's a loooot of weird plotholes that 3H would be jealous of lol.

can i be borderline controversial and say that i do think there's a correlation between the love and adoration for the other kings, Leviathan's brutal honesty about grey-morality and involvement in war when you know him as Leviathan, and his lack of worshipers here under that name. the controversial part being that the other kings seem way more into propaganda flourishing and part of why i say that is because ive known both of them and they fucking do that oops hashtag UPG (PVG) spilled outta my pockets there

ie its always people who work for the other kings i see so caught up in how loving and pure the kings and ''demons'' are, and you COULD say that's just because Lev doesn't have many worshipers under that name but I think its more so because when you know "Leviathan" uhhhhh. like you could say lack of lev worshipers = lack of lev propaganda but i think its more so lev isnt going to pretend to be a beautiful siren man in a suit who tells you he loves you so so much even tho he just met you two seconds ago
