I’m glad with the art and for the amount of pages I made in such a relatively short time span -w- page 5 was super fun to work on. YES I am ALSO like...90-95% convinced that we're going to be getting a story card for Silver once we wrap around back to diasomnia. 👀 especially because the way things are going, Silver will be the only character whose dream we haven't seen -- yet???? -- and that just. y'know. makes me wonder!

although I do think it would be VERY funny if he got a story card and the groovy was just "regular Silver except with one beautiful single crystal tear". this is actually a lot coming from him.

asuka and kaworu should've hung out sometime. it doesn't really fit with the themes of the show or the canon narrative at all but in my head kaworu showed up at the apartment one day expecting to meet shinji, only to be told in no uncertain terms by a thoroughly fed up and spiritually crushed asuka that shinji had been called over to do some tests at NERV last minute and she doesn't know when he'll be back, nor does she care. kaworu asks if he can come inside anyway; he doesn't mind waiting, however long it takes. asuka reiterates that she doesn't care, and leaves him standing there to do as he pleases as she turns back to where she was playing a video game on the tv in the living room. kaworu observes silently for a while before asuka tells him to sit down and come play with her because she's getting creeped out by him just standing there. she practically throws the controller at him when he sits beside her. after a few silent, tense rounds of multiplayer, she snaps at him that he doesn't have to let her win. he asks her with a small, strange smile on his face why she thinks that he would try to lose on purpose. asuka realizes that he's being serious, and expresses genuine derision at his lack of skills, berating him and belittling him with a spark of her old passion. she then insists on teaching him how to play properly, backseat gaming him excessively and at times snatching the controller out of his hands in a fit of frustration at his inability to follow what, to her, are simple instructions. by the end of the day he's passable enough to get soundly thrashed by her without offending her by losing, and, for a moment, it's almost normal. they're just two kids hanging out, playing games at the end of the world.

there’s something so personal about the scene in fantasy high s1e7 where gorgug calls himself stupid & fabian, who up to that point had basically entirely been acting like the bad kids (especially gorgug) were beneath him & had also been the one calling ragh stupid two lines ago, instantly says “okay, do not put yourself down like that. don’t you dare do that to yourself.” like it was obvious he liked the bad kids at that point but the instinct to protect his friends manifesting as an immediate strong refusal of gorgug’s self-deprecating talk kills me. that boy loves his friends so bad oh my god i feel sick.

while the moots are discussing brudick-jesus & judas & maybe mary, here's my contribution:

i have a religious studies degree (loud booing) and part of my thesis was offering forth the theory that in order for someone (usually a lowly mortal) to be a mystic, they must also be a masochist.

what do i mean by that? a mystic is someone who connects directly with the divine, often physically. think medieval saints who received visions of christ, some of whom married him. think of st. bernard's blindness being cured by the virgin mary squirting her breastmilk in his eyes. my paper was specifically about paganism and various polytheistic religions' practices of possession, of willingly inviting your god to inhabit your body to walk around, speak, fuck, other such things. in every description of these mystic experiences, the mystic must endure a degree of pain and danger. connecting with the divine as a mortal hurts, badly, and everyone involved knows that. gods will possess your body and dance on thorns and leave you with wounds after they're done, and that's part of devotion.

so, when a god chooses a mystic, they choose a masochist. someone who not only willingly, but happily and ecstatically accepts the pain of connection. their masochism can be and often is sexual, but can also be purely sensual.

ALL THIS TO SAY, to tie it loosely back to battyman, i'm wondering if there are connections between my theory here and the pain inherent in being a robin. being batman for sure, that also requires masochism, but being a robin—being batman's devotee—requires enduring and welcoming the pains of combat, as well as ego death. sacrificing any external identity to fit under batman's cape. submitting to the occasional humiliations of training under him; his teaching style isn't usually lenient and kind. accepting the many, many times you will be tied up and teased by enemies, even if their insults mean nothing to you. being willing to die for batman, even if he would never ask for it directly, although i could argue that he does subconsciously expect it.

in conclusion. dick is a masochist and a devotee of bruce/batman thank you for listening 🙇🏻‍♂️
