Today I stopped to reflect about Nico's origins, on the fact that regardless of how you look at it, he's an immigrant in America. He was born in Italy like his sister, but they later moved.
This got me thinking about a rather weighty theme, wondering if others have ever thought about or written anything on it – namely, how Nico, once he discovered his identity, began to perceive things, and perhaps how people outside of the C.H.B., where - among many exceptions - it's a safe place, perceived him.
This intrigues and piques my curiosity a bit ~~ but I'm not sure if I'll really have time to dedicate to it. At the moment it's a nice idea, and if someone has already written something, I'd love to read it ♡

I wish I could see more successful and underprivileged Mexican/latino artists to look up to. Feels like everyone who made it real big in the modern online art space are white people who grew up in the suburbs or with fairly stable upbringings that allows them to pour all their energy into their career. idk I just want reassurance I can one day have my own apartment without fighting for my life I guess
#text#and by “big” I don’t mean 20k followers on Instagram. I mean actually able to make a living with their mainstream success.#like I want to see underprivileged poc be able to make it like loish or anna-laura sullivan is what I’m saying#and I very much love the comics of the latter but y’know#and I don’t actually know these people so I’m making assumptions#don’t think they have to deal with immigrant parents and threats of deportation tho

Have been seeing some discussion again about tamlin being a good High Lord or not and I just have to remind everyone of one of the best little facts from acotar I never really seen mentioned.
Acotar, Chapter 25 Page 221
She [Alis] simply said, "Summer Solstice. The main celebration used to be at the Summer Court, but... Things are different. So now we have one here, too. You're going."
"so now we have one here too..." Because of amarantha and Tamlin being just a good person he allowed anyfae from any court to come to spring. And because no one could really go back to their courts for their respective solstice celebrations, Tamlin made sure Spring Celebrated all of them
I just think that's such a cool fucking thing. That Tamlin cared for the people coming to spring for safety, and he made changes to help everyone feel comfortable and at home. He cares about the people who live in Spring, he cares so damn much :(((
#pro tamlin#tamlin#a court of thorns and roses#acotar#Like??? i read that was was just that means what i think it does right??? and ive never seen anyone else mention thaT?!#and i didnt see like a huge mean post just the usual anti tamlin stuff slipping thru my filters#The bad high lord allegations rlly do be fighting... they dont have much to stand on but their fighting#(Ive also seen ppl call tamlin republican and guys what republican do you see being so pro immigration and open borders HUH?)#People just give any character they hate negative traits even if they dont fit cause they see it all as negative#at least be character accurate in your hating PEOPLE#i dont see no velaris being a safe haven for fae during amaranthas reign (other than its citizens)...#sorry had to throw in some rhysand and ic shade#arson yaps#man i love tamlin!!!#Going the xtra mile in my fic to emphasis how GOOD and caring of a leader his is!!#hes not perfect cause no one is but my god hes trying so hard

"this person clearly hasn't read the comics, they're making stuff up instead of being accurate to canon"
Fool,,, I've read the comics AND MAKE THINGS UP. You can do BOTH
#ramblings#just because someone ended up with a different interpretation from you doesn't mean they didn't read the comics at all#i've said before: it's okay to make things up and it's okay to be informed by canon. what matters is what u make of it. what u end up sayin#i think fandom tends to over course correct from fear of their faves getting flandarized as is common in fandom spaces#but it leads to this “making stuff up is bad stick to canon” mindset that is so limiting. like where's the whimsy and fun in that#aren't u ever inspired? or dissatisfied by canon? i'm not waiting on canon to give me an immigrant clois love story#jesncin dc meta

i asked for (and got) an espresso machine for Christmas for the sole purpose of learning how to make the best goddamn lattes in existence because they're my wife's favorite coffee and she deserves to wake up every morning to a kiss on the head and a latte with a heart in it on the bedside table !! i will make my dreams a reality
#the hawk speaks#this means i will probably be drinking a lot of crappy lattes in the coming weeks 😂💀#one step closer to having the ideal lifestyle#this is also good for me because i am supposed to get up at 5am but i struggle to actually do that#bc i leave for work around 6 so there's not much time to do anything important so i tend to get up at like 5:45 instead#which is not what i want. so getting up to make espresso will absolutely get me out of bed a bit earlier :)#anyway someday our immigration will go through and i'll actually be able to bring her morning lattes. until then i will practice til perfec

aside from the fact that starmer is just as transphobic as the tories so this is hardly a ‘gotcha’ moment, can we just acknowledge this:

Ive been thinking a lot about this season of Orange is the New Black, which took place during Trumps first term, when he first started cracking down on immigration.
Remember how it caused an influx of children left behind, and we made them represent themselves in court? Children who were as young as 3 years old?
I have to admit some heavy ignorance...I thought this practice ended when Trump left. I thought these children who's parents got snatched away having to sit in front of a judge BY THEMSELVES was a heartless byproduct of his presidency. But I found articles of this still happening as recently as last year. Headlines still begging for something to change about this.

We're going to be seeing a lot more coverage of this, so just remember that...it happened under Biden's watch too. It was just to a lesser degree, so it wasn't on people's radar.
#i really had to sit with myself after seeing an article from 2024 proclaiming the same thing#this same fuckin thing#i did lose focus of issues like this bc it didnt affect me directly#that feels horrible to say but i wanna be real about this#just because youre not malicious towards immigrants doesnt mean your ignorance isnt hurtful#politics#us politics#american politics#trump#donald trump#immigration#immigrants#trump inauguration#orange is the new black#oitnb

ok this is a very niche and meta peeve but. when you live in a country that's not the US or the UK and especially if your native language is not english. there's a lot of ways people from the aforementioned countries may disregard your existence or experiences, grading from Harmful to Annoying. like i think everyone outside of usa can attest to how grating it can be that people from the protagonist country will forget that a whole world exists outside of it for realsies and not just on the news sometimes, with different languages and cultures and currencies and systems and peoples and politics.
countries like sweden and norway are extremely privileged and well regarded globally and don't need to be like, protected. white people from here are not gonna experience real life ramifications of mean sweden jokes online. but there's still a weird dynamic present if like, if the Big Protagonist Country is like, treating a different culture as Weird or Lesser, especially if the people doing it have very little clue about the cultural nuances or politics in question, while everyone Outside of Big Protagonist Country have to learn about THEIR political ongoings every single day, all the time. like, it's a pet peeve. it's annoying. i don't enjoy it. it's not the end of the world! it just sucks that it's so skewed.
so here's the meta aspect. if you complain about anything about norway in norway, especially about how maybe things could be better for marginalized groups, or how maybe some systems could be changed, you'll essentially be told "you live in the world's best country so sit down and shut up." like i genuinely think this attitude is a rot that runs through norwegian culture and something we need to reevaluate.
but something that ALSO happens, if you complain about pet peeves like people mispronouncing norwegian words or how swedengate sucked or when people think the Ø is just a fancy O, is that some people will tell you that you cannot complain about this because other people are ACTUALLY oppressed and sweden is not. it's just "norway is the best country to live in so sit down and shut up" but from the outside.
obviously this is not a big material problem in my real life as i live it. but it's annoying! complaining is a human right!!!
#it's the nature of the internet i guess#i complained about swedengate on my locked twitter account back when bc i knew there was a low threshold to misunderstand#and i still got misunderstood. like#this is such a small problem but i have a right to feel hurt?#and it's less about like. mean attitudes and more about who does it#immigrants can say as much shit about norway as they want forever#but it gets Really Weird if an american who knows nothing about the place does the same

DNDADS OCS, BUT THIS TIME ITS S2
THIS TIME i present TWO . TWICE the character for One post because i couldnt be bothered to make 2 debut ref sheets for them both
Luis and Santiago Sanchez, originally made as dnd characters for a campaign that never took off, so i smushed em in s2
here's an introductory comic to how luis and lark met, simply cause ive had this comic in my sketchbook for ages and it makes me cackle everytime
fun facts below the cut!! [i wrote more than expected]
☆ i made them sometime in 2022, before the s2 teens made it to heaven, so now idk how they can be part angelic considering angels r just eyeballs, but fuck it. if there can be half demon characters, there can be half angel
☆ theyre both peruvian [because i dont see enough peruano characters in media istfg]
☆ newly moved in to san dimas! moved in the same neighborhood as the oak-swallows-garcia family
☆ i believe these are pre-season 2 ep 1 ocs. like, maybe a year or 2 before the events of s2? idk . time is fake
☆ some inspiration for these two was taken from jim and barbara from trollhunters! i still love that show so i blended it with my own experiences and dndads and here. mental illness incarnate
LUIS
☆ bisexual nurse dad! since he was supposed to be a dnd pc, i had him as a life cleric, so to explain for his healing magic i decided to have him be ½ celestial, maybe aasimar
☆ that being said, he does not know of any non-human heritage nor magical healing. he just thinks he's naturally good at healing
☆ having magic immediately puts him on lark's radar, leading him to investigate luis. luis is just happy to have a new friend
☆ divorced from santiago's mom
☆ can't cook For Shit. it doesnt matter if you give him instructions, if it involves a stove/oven, there will be smoke
SANTIAGO
☆ transgender king!!! he/they legend!!! no im not projecting dont @ me /j
☆ chismoso/nosey to the point where, in san dimas, a hotbed for doodler activity, it puts him in danger. and you best believe he's snooping on this weird dude who's hanging around his dad so much [lark]
☆ new transfer to teen high! mainly just concerned with joining the track team
☆ unfortunately also the king of running in his binder. god save this kid
☆ due to celestial heratige, hates taylor swift's part demonic energy - he chalks this up to just not liking his vibe
#feel free to ask anything i love molding and shaping these guys. they are play doh to me#also i know i wrote 'chismosA' instead of 'chismosO' for santi . thats on me#didnt mean to misgender my own boy but in my defense anytime ive used the word 'chismosa' in referral to men my parents never corrected me#shoutout immigrant parents who forget to properly teach the language <3 i love my mama#my art#dungeons and daddies#dndads#dndaddies#dndads oc#oc: luis sanchez#oc: santiago sanchez#lark oak#lark oak garcia#i believe this counts as oc x cannon . right? i feel like it fits the quota

A donation to the ACLU immigrant rights fund would be way more effective than telling people to Just Leave
#uspoli#immigration#us politics#ACLU#need to Be Online to stay in the loop on laws that affect my life & coordinate with family & friends about backup plans#unfortunately Being Online means I'm seeing wack-ass takes from people who are sitting very comfortable in their privilege#for many of us leaving = throwing ourselves into more uncertainty. in some (many) cases back to war or abuse#it's not an empathetic suggestion especially for those of us who've already uprooted our lives and began em anew in another country#“hey just immigrate” "if it were me I couldn't handle it” same brandon but you're living in canada and we're. not.#don't remind us how much greener your grass is. don't tell people to 'just leave'. perhaps ask what you can do to help people who can't.#'just leave' and the leaving costs several thousands of dollars. how bout you help someone living paycheck to paycheck#just a thought: conveniently leaving out the expense in immigrating to another country to people on the bottom rungs of the economic ladder#isn't the hero move you think it is#the ability to pay for moving/immigration is not available to everyone. like. the privilege & ignorance inherent to the suggestion is wild#not everyone can claim asylum either!#be so fr

Honestly a batfam fic I want to see, as someone who immigrated to a new country and had to learn a new language, is one where there’s a language barrier between Damian and the rest of the batfam. Also I think not a lot of people talk about how huge of a thing it is to suddenly be uprooted by one of your parents and moved halfway across the world like I was.
By language barrier I don’t necessarily mean that he only speaks Arabic (although that would also be fairly interesting) but also in the sense that even if he is fairly fluent he learned English from a textbook and doesn’t understand any slang or even random things in everyday use.
He gets confused by sayings he hasn’t heard before. He doesn’t know/remember the word for random household objects. Occasionally he pronounces a new word in an odd way. He meets someone with a strong accent he isn’t familiar with and suddenly he has trouble understanding what they’re trying to say. He tries to say something to someone else and suddenly blanks because the word he’s thinking of doesn’t exist in English. Sometimes he directly translates a word or saying into English and everyone else is slightly confused.
Something else I’ve also experienced is kinda feeling out of place because there are some things that I can’t share with people. Not in the sense of “oh I can’t tell them about it” but in the sense of “this is only funny in my own language” or just kind of feeling like an “other” because everyone around you is speaking their first language and you’re over here speaking your second, third or even fourth language.
Just people talking about the things they did or liked as kids and just not being able to relate at all cause you had completely different experiences. You learn their pop culture references and the everything into the intricacies and smallest details of their culture that they don’t even think about but they don’t know where your country is on a map, they don’t know how people speak there, the food, the cities, anything really. You spend your time learning everything about their culture, but it just feels so one sided because you’re speaking their language and they don’t speak a word of yours. Both literally and metaphorically. You are tuning yourself in on their wavelength constantly and not a lot of people will ever make much of an effort to tune into yours.
There is no one around you that you can have a conversation with in your own language, apart from maybe family, and you can’t easily find books in your language. The more you surround yourself with people from your new country the more easily you can feel like you’ve lost contact with your own country and your own language. The longer you stay in a new country the more you feel like if you went back to your own country you’d be just as out of place as you feel in the one you currently live in.
It goes the other way too. The more you look and sound like you fit in the more uncomfortable it gets because people like to put you in one box or the other and a lot of people don’t understand that you might never completely feel completely like one or the other is “your country”. You’ll never be completely the same as the people in the new country. You may know all the same cultural references as they do after some time but you don’t have the same emotional basis or nostalgia around it as they do. You don’t have the same acquired tastes as they do. There are things from your old country that used to be a common thing where you came from but just do not exist there.
You end up missing the dumb things. The differences in the trees. The food. The dumb children’s characters. The holidays. The dumb little sayings that people would have. Body language and verbal cues that people in your new country just do not have. The way buildings are built. The way the weeds in the pavement are different. The way even the DIRT has a different composition. The way the seasons aren’t the same, the difference in weather and temperature throughout the year. The shittiest, cheapest candy they sold in every store but don’t sell here.
This is all stuff I’ve experienced before myself and I think it would be fun for Damian to have some of the same experiences with it.
#damian wayne#batfamily#Batman#immigration#Like#obviously the way the league did things and the way the batfam do things is already a really jarring change#but just being completely uprooted and moved overseas shouldn’t be underestimated either#it’s a LOT for a kid#it’s a huge adjustment#I’ve been living here for five years and it’s still hard sometimes#I came here as a minor and now I’m an adult but more than half of my childhood is in a country we can’t afford to visit again#I don’t think that anyone could ever understand the magnitude of a change like that unless they went through it themselves#didn’t mean for this to become a rant#but I hope it’s at least interesting#because I know that I never thought of this stuff before I immigrated

one of my favorite clark headcanons that i have (that is completely unsupported by canon) is that he's transgender by kryptonian standards. martha and jon kent raised him as a boy and as he grew up he never had any reason to doubt it at all, he was like yeah i'm a boy, makes sense. and then he gets to the fortress of solitude for the first time and it turns out how Gender works on krypton was just Different enough that clark doesn't really fit the kryptonian standards of whatever he was supposed to be. bonus points because this makes him feel like even more of an outsider as a kryptonian, even if he's the last one left.
#do i know what those kryptonian gender customs are? no and i kind of don't care to come up with them#just cuz that's not my favorite thing to do but someone else can if they like my idea#i just love the idea of 1) trans clark 2) clark discovering his heritage but also as he learns more about his heritage#realizing that because of how he was raised- and it was nobody's fault- even though it's the only explanation for why he's so different#from humans he still can't help but feel like he's not a real kryptonian either#brought to you by THIS STARTED AS A FUN HEADCANON FOR HIM TO BE TRANS IN A COOL ALIEN WAY#BUT TURNED OUT TO BE ACTUALLY PROJECTION OF SOME PERSONAL SHIT I HAVE ONLY CONSCIOUSLY THOUGHT ABOUT LIKE TWICE SO OOPS#bluebird.txt#superman#was watching superman 1978 and i don't have any real thoughts about it yet but i'm just rotating in my head#that jor-el said 'this is your home.' when describing krypton.#like. he's never been there. he can never go there. it doesn't exist anymore and he will be raised human.#he will be raised in a world that is so completely unlike his own and he will not grow up with as a kryptonian.#and yet jor-el says of krypton 'this is your home.'#like just give me a moment.#so interesting to me who considers who what. some guy in high school#told me i wasn't mexican because i din't recognize some candies my (cuban) teacher brought back when he visited mexico#he said i wasn't even latino#well first of all that guy was a first-class asshole seriously my kudos to him#for having such an impressive amount of hatred and unhappiness in his little soul#second of all. he didn't think i was latino. my own sister only calls me mexican when it's convenient for her#my parents are proud of their american children and in high school my mexican (as in grew up there) friend wa always proud#to call me a fellow mexican (or at least a chicana)#so i just find it so fascinating that in this movie jor-el says son you will never know your birthplace your parents's home firsthand#but it is your home.#my parents would never EVER call mexico my home i don't think they'd even call it THEIR home#i just. i'm thinking about it a lot.#high fives clark kent in child of immigrants and everything that means swag solidarity

草(中日雙語)
should i make this hat that just reads a string of expletives against a serene green background or
#knitting#mur#to understand the psychological damage this pattern is doing to me#you need to understand what both 草 and 'wearing a green hat' means in chinese and what 草 means on the japanese speaking internet#and i love that the designer who is a middle aged japanese man who immigrated to the us in the 90s does not seem to be aware of any of this#and did not design this pattern deliberately as a joke#it has been suggested to me to make this hat only with the 艹 radical so that it cane be disguised as a normal colourwork pattern#but also keep the meaning of 草 because we use 艹 to mean the expletive ‘fuck’ as a variation of 草 as well alskflsjdkds

Whenever the white left screams about "purity politics getting in the way of leftist progress/ class consciousness" it usually means that either Black or brown or disabled people objected to being thrown under the bus and told to suck it up. When pressed they will then invoke "two things can be true at once", like we don't know they're using the truth they like to actively erase and suppress the one inconvenient to them.
Your class system is built on colonization and eugenics. Prioritize race and disability in your leftism or die in a ditch for all we care. You are and have always been unnecessary and obstructive to our liberation.
#this applies even if you're a whitewashed asian immigrant that made it in a white-dominated field like some people i could name#also y'all can stop trying to humanize the hot white ivy league tech bro that met a systemic issue and decided to murder someone about it#murdering that guy was based but also it's the same egotistical white man privilege that murder women and black people so#this type of dipshit picking on someone their own size for once in history doesn't mean that the rest of them will continue to do so#ironically the killing of the white millionaire ceo and the black homeless guy came from the same well of white male violence#white liberals#islamophobia#ableism#disability#colonization#abolition#colonialism#imperialism#anti blackness#racism#knee of huss
