When Sean Astin was in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, he was paid $250,000 for his role as Sam Gamgee, which averages out to only around $83,000 per movie. This is extremely low for a lead role in a huge franchise, but even more so when you consider that he moved his family to New Zealand for a portion of the shoot, which took place over several years as all three movies were filmed at once, and then pickups and reshoots were conducted as needed. It was an extremely labor-intensive film series, and Sean was one of several actors injured on the set. Despite his low salary, he was one of the lucky ones - costar Billy Boyd revealed in an interview that he was not paid at all for his appearance in the series.

Despite all this, Sean has always spoken very positively of his time playing Sam, and it remains one of his most iconic roles. It's truly inspiring to see him advocating for other actors. No one should be paid so little for a leading role, especially not on such a risky set. I hope the union gets their deal soon and that they don't have to go all the way to Mordor to get it!

My husband was at a friend's wedding this week (I was invited, but declined to come along because, well, my physical body sucks), and he got to hang out with some of his friends and meet their significant others.

One kept sort of...staring at him.

She finally said, "I feel like I know you from somewhere! I must have seen you somewhere before!"

Husband was confused, said he was pretty sure he'd never seen her before in his life.

Then she snapped her fingers. "That's it! You look like Samwise Gamgee!"

His buddies at the table took a second look at him, a few people Googled up pics of Sean Astin, and it was decided that, yes, he is similar to Sam.
