#okay i'm gonna yap but here in the tags#mostly about Valentine's clothes#is very on the nose tbh but ah! thoughts!#Valentine's main outfit being the one with his black coat (its actually his mom's) referencing his mourning and grief#his white scarf in more association with “innocence”#innocence as “inocent” as#a victim#i like to think about the white and black as lack of openess#achromatism#(does that word exist? idc)#hes not open to clive and he doesnt know him he can only see him as this man who killed his mother and thats it. thats what clive is.#as well as clive seeing valentine as one more person who hates his guts and wants him death#nothing new.#Under Valentine's coat hes using a pink shirt. Pink (as white) can symbolize innocence too. Is a bright color. Love is the most accepted#definition#Compassion too#Thats what Valentine shows Clive as their story goes on. Valentine later stops using his scarf too#ahhh well. i didnt describe it too much on the fic i wrote where they kiss#but that day was quite hot#Valentine's clothes were mostly white#old white shirt with short sleeves with paint stains#white as this innocent feeling that its stained#maybe with sentiments of confusion. fear. excitement. hope?.#short sleeves#hes showing himself to clive#this is as closer they got#(besides the kiss)#Clive dresses the same during all the story#whatever that means....! haha! #not to be that guy #but I read the post as poorly worded but well intentioned #men can still struggle with internalised misogyny and working through that #think a lot of people on this post just jumps right to the 'oh so you're misogynistic?!?? a thousand deaths for all men' #can you guys at least have a little bit nuanced thinking than only barking that men are evil?? for once? #men can struggle with unlearning something they've been thought their entire life gdi #idk #just kinda think the agreessive barking is a bit...excessive
Fucking thank you for saying this
a contender for dumbest post I’ve seen on here… literally ‘let men hate women’

Say what you want about fishblr updates, but I think this format for reblubs is a wonderful improvement over the previous one. One of the only times staff did good.

@featherstar53 If reblub chains got too long, new reblubs would start appearing as darker and darker until you couldnt see the text anymore. It mimicked how light disappears as you go deeper in the ocean but the sunken code this webbedsite runs on never set a cap for how dark it gets, so eventually you would have to copy ad paste the text on the reblubs onto somewhere to read them.
🐍 swamplamprey follow
It sounds fake but it's true! You can still find some older fishblr post screenshots with this effect:
This even went for full abyssal mode users! In their case, the text would slowly turn from white to dark blue, effectively making it impossible to read against the black background.

I think it would be super funny if they brought this back but for individual posts. Like the reblubs stay the same colour but the posts themselves get gradually and gradually darker until you can't see them anymore lol. It would be disastrous but also funny and it might finally stop some of you frys from being so addicted to this webbedsite

Wait, how come this site is called fishblr and not something like oceanblr or aquablr? Wouldn't that be more inclusive?
👑 goldielocks follow
I believe the name "fishblr" pays homage to the meaning of the word where just about everything in the water was considered a fish. It's why we have words like "shellfish", "whalefish", "jellyfish", "starfish".
Personally aquablr would work really well, too. There's a sizeable amphibious userbase on here.

....Whale sharks are fish. They are sharks. It's in the name.
🦎 eye-of-newt follow
But I thought it was a whale named after sharks? WHALE shark! Why else would they put whale up first?
👑 goldielocks
A whale named after a shark would be called a shark whale. You can take one look at a whale shark and see that, with its gills and fish tail, it is a shark.
⚪️ number1-seacucumber-ass-enjoyer-77 follow
Wait, then what about baby whales? Are those whales named after babies?
👑 goldielocks
If you're talking about the actual whale babies, then yeah. If you mean the mormyrids, small aquatic animals that can sense electricity, then no, those are fish. Sometimes names are inaccurate to what the animal really is.
🌌 themanta1234 follow
If you think about it, fishblr is also inclusive to aquatic tetrapods since they are lobe-fins, and therefore fish :D It's a term that can include everyone on here, the perfect catchall!

I feel like disappointment in Biden is baffling to me because he was always a disappointment. He was the asshole who got to ride to power on the coattails of a better man. He told bizarre and repeated lies (despite getting caught at it and his team telling him not to) about having a Welsh coal miner dad when he did not and he stole that story from actual Welsh people. I read a profile of him years back that pointed this out and told the story of the time he straight up ignored good advice from an expert not to plant a certain kind of tree too close together and flew a bunch of them out to plant, at night because he was just too fucking excited about it, and they all died. He’s not a smart man! He’s charismatic ish and lacks principles and as far as I can tell doesn’t really care about abortion rights or a lot of things we’d consider pretty critical to preserving freedom. I sincerely thought he couldn’t become President because there were so many obviously better candidates in the pool. I underestimated the sexism and antisemitism in American politics, and when he became the candidate in 2020 I gritted my teeth and voted for him because the alternative was a man who is not only an idiot but also profoundly dangerous. Trump is not ha-ha crazy, he’s Mussolini crazy. He is not dangerous because he’s stupid, although that doesn’t help; he’s dangerous because he does not care about anyone except himself under any circumstances and if that means he lets the far right push us straight into forced birth for white women and sterilization for women of color he’s going to do that. If that means conversion therapy for queers and death penalty for homosexual acts he’s going to do that. He has literally no limits. If he gets back into power, a whole lot of people are going to die, again. It’s not a hypothetical because it happened the first time and he’s only going to get worse.
I am not, never have been, and never will be a fan of Biden. To pretend that he and Trump are in any way equivalent is wrong at best and another goddamn Russian psy-op at worst. To pretend that a third party candidacy is viable in the US is to completely ignore every election of your lifetime and your parents’ lifetimes, and to further ignore the lesson of Ross Perot.
You cannot save Palestinians by not voting for Biden in November; the best you can do is chip away at his margin, and the worst you can do is see Trump elected so he can decide to do the worst possible thing in ever circumstance. Biden has Palestinian blood on his hands and watching this when we could have had Bernie or Elizabeth Warren instead is maddening. (I would have preferred Hillary to Trump, but I don’t think she’d be any different than Biden here. They’re both old-school politicians.)
I hate everything about this, and I hate that saying “maybe don’t put the man who literally said he would kill his political enemies in power” is seen as supporting genocide. It’s acknowledging reality. Joe Biden as a person can eat rocks for all I care. I was kind of hoping he’d die sooner in his term so we’d have time to get used to and then vote for President Harris. (Remember when the line was “she’s a cop, don’t vote for her”? Funny how there’s always a reason not to vote for a woman or a person of color or someone you just “don’t like” and can’t put a finger on why except she “seems angry.” Oh does she. How would she not? When Michelle fucking Obama, the picture of grace , STILL got called angry for having the nerve to be a Black woman with an opinion? When Hillary Clinton lost to a man with no political experience to her decades and who openly discussed sexually assaulting women? Would you have voted for President Harris? Or would you let Trump win again because you don’t LIKE her personally and she’s made decisions and statements you disagree with?)
Biden has both less power than his critics give him credit for and more power than his fans give him credit for. He needs to do more to pressure Israel and although it’s a delicate diplomatic situation I’d rather see us fuck up our diplomatic relationship with Israel than watch more Palestinians get murdered for things like “wanting to eat” and “existing.” The line has been crossed, and he doesn’t see it. Because he wasn’t the best person for the job. Because they didn’t get elected, because of sexism/antisemitism/racism. Hell, I have no idea what bootlicker Pete Buttegieg would have done here, but I’d have given him a try. But no. We got Biden and we’re stuck with this reality where you can be as leftist as you want and still have to look at the situation and decide whether you’re comfortable contributing to a Trump victory through inaction. I want socialism—I want every single person on Earth to have clean drinking water, enough safe food, shelter, medical care, and education—and I’m going to vote for Biden, pissy as it makes me, because the only actual alternative is so, so much worse, for me personally as both a woman and a queer, and for everyone in America and the rest of the world who Trump would find reasons to hurt. What do you think the man who openly and repeatedly praises dictators is going to do when those dictators massacre their own people? Yes, we need to care about this genocide now. We also need to care about all of the other people who are at real risk, both at home and abroad. Would a Trump government agree to fund military intervention in Haiti without insisting on it being a colonial exercise in power? Would a Trump government roll back the restrictions on discriminating against transgender patients in healthcare? How would Trump respond if Orban started dragging people into the streets and shooting them en masse? How would Trump respond if China finally went for it and invaded Taiwan? There are more lives at stake here than mine or yours or even those of the Palestinians, who have deserved better for literally decades and are being mass killed in ways that should result in immediate sanctions, a war crimes trial, and the execution of Netanyahu.
The world deserves better from you than complicity in a Trump victory.

You know, a while ago, I saw a post that was something along the lines of "On Tumblr, you could write a post saying 'I like pancakes' and people would reply with 'So you hate waffles???' like nah man that's a whole new sentence!".
These anon you've been getting are really proving the point of that post's OP. I'm sorry you have to deal with Tumblr's often rather mediocre reading comprehension.
FWIW I follow you for being one of the people with actually nuanced takes instead of that weird thing most of this site has got going on, where it's either "If you EVER even think of a character who did ANYTHING wrong in any remotely positive light you're irredeemably evil" on one side and "If you ever so much as imply that maybe there's some things people write or put in shows that can cause harm to real people, you're irredeemably evil.". I hope they all grow out of their black and white thinking. Or at least learn to leave you and others alone.
I appreciate it.
I think, if I'm to give a little bit of grace now that my frustration has died down a very small amount, that people have become so conditioned to reading one argument that they assume everything that looks even remotely similar is the same thing.
On my dashboard, most of what I see is people arguing the same exact points as the anons, usually using fiery overgeneralized language to rile people up about the dangers of censorship online. And so if all you see is people getting mad over and over about this point, written in a way that paints everyone who is critical of any content in fiction in the same broad brush, you are going to start to believe that it's all one thing.
And they're not entirely wrong about the dangers of censorship and harassment--there are, obviously, broad efforts across the United States (and I'm sure other places, but the U.S. is what I'm most familiar with) to censor certain types of literature based on conservative fears of their content.
There have also been efforts, generally well-intended, from the left to reduce "problematic" content. While some of these have been great (e.g., sensitivity readers), others have been abused, often by people who lacked the cultural competency to understand what they were reading or who wanted an excuse to harass people. Many of these efforts, especially those that were implemented most ineffectively or most abused, were focused on the criticism and removal of writers or existing content.
I understand the sensitivity, I really do. I also disagree with efforts that have happened across the board to remove wide swaths of content just because they made someone a little uncomfy.
And yes, I do talk about content moderation, because I also recognize the difference between "made someone a little uncomfy" and "we are welcoming to Nazi content" and unfortunately certain places err too much on the latter side rather than the former in the name of universal free speech with no exceptions.
But most of what I talk about is writing, because I'm a writing blog. I do want to change how people approach writing, because I believe fundamentally in our responsibility as human beings to 1) do what we can to avoid harm and 2) do what we can to improve the world around us. And if that means that there's less of certain content, like magic that relies on biological essentialism and love stories involving SS commanders, then I'm okay with that.

i saw this post today where this person was talking abt fandom racism and was pointing out some real issues within my fandom and favorite ship that I too had noticed… but then kept bringing it back to the lack of one particular other ship they liked, when it's like, no that's not the problem, and that ship is unpopular because those characters have zero romantic or sexual chemistry and barely any scenes together. (it was really funny that someone had reblogged this to take their 'lack of seeing this one character in a sexual way in fic miiight be racist' complaint to be like 'i think you're right! we should have more fic about [a long list of different ships involving that character with people they have ACTUAL chemistry with].' it was really funny. ofc op totally missed the point they were making there.) anyway i just feel like way too many useful conversations about this stuff are ruined by people making it about shipping or other really subjective fandom preferences. i get that this is because something like 'number of fics X ship or character has on ao3' is an objective measure, and something like 'level of orientalism in how a lot of people are writing this desi character' is not, but i wish people would realize it tends to alienate more people that it converts. and ime, it's often the people who maybe would most benefit from hearing those criticisms (e.g. are writing unintentionally racist stuff in their works, and are someone who would want to know about that and how to do it differently) who tune it out the second you make it into insulting their shipping preferences.
i mean, there WAS some real racism in the star wars sequels fandom, including among the fanfic/shipping side. not just the shitty dudes harassing kelly marie tran. we saw the really bizarre 'predator' language people directed at john boyega just for making some joke posts on instagram about disliking reylo and its shippers. it was the very classic racist thing where people see something as automatically more threatening when a black man does it. ....but how many people had already tuned all that out because the people most outspoken about the racism in the fandom kept reducing it to 'if you ship reylo over finnrey, or kylux over finnpoe, you're a racist'? it's like a boy who cried wolf thing. if you've shown that you can't uncouple serious discussions and concerns from just being pissy that your otp is not more popular, people are going to see you as someone who can't be taken seriously and then ignore you when you do have a real complaint. it's like how i'm sure that some of stitch's essays are thoughtful and important, but i have no desire to read stuff by someone who is infamous for harassing people just for what they ship. i don't feel like i can take any of that person's judgments about fandoms i'm not in, for instance, seriously.
that's not to say fandom preferences in shipping can't ever be influenced by racism (or other 'isms') but is it ever really *that* specifically that is the problem, or the broader pattern it is part of? and i feel like 'maybe fandom is a little too focused on het and slash ships between two young skinny conventionally attractive white people' is a message more people are open to than 'your specific white M/M or F/M otp is racist'
anyway it reminds me of the stuff i've seen sometimes in academic fandom studies about how you can't really honestly study a fandom where you're deeply mired in its discourse - you need to focus your work on fandoms that you're familiar with but not in that way. and i think that maybe also applies to some of these discussions about fandom racism and misogyny. maybe you're just going to have better takes on something when you're not deeply invested in other unrelated arguments about it, like about which ship is the most popular. like i could not care less about star wars shipping and have zero take in reylo vs. finnrey, so that's why i feel like i could trust my perception that the way a small minority of reylos were posting about john boyega's instagram posts was racist. it didn't matter if he was genuinely being a jerk to them or about their ship. he obviously wasn't a 'predator' and it was pretty telling language for a group of largely white people to use about a black man making fun of their ship on a different social media site.
--
The laying pipe thing was blown so out of proportion, yes. Call it sexist, sure, but it wasn't fucking predatory.

Don't hide that Cassidy stuff in the tags OP, tell me what you know.
please and thank you
Alright, so in that post I detailed the main reason why Pharah, Angela and Ana have problems noticing this about each other is the lack of communication skills on all parties, especially with Fareeha and Angela.
The thing is Cassidy actively negates all of that, he's one of the most empathetic characters in lore and has incredible communication skills when it comes to others. He notices details about people that most people don't pick up on. Not only that but Pharah specifically has been shown being very open about her opinion's with Cassidy, him probably being the only person to fully understand her and Ana's issues (he is the one who got them to reunite after all).
Now on a narrative standpoint this makes sense as Angela, Fareeha and Cole are very clear parallels to Jack, Gabe and Ana. With the Old Soldiers, if you remove one from the group you end up lacking something in how effective they are. If you remove Jack from that trio Gabe and Ana start to isolate, you remove Gabe you lose the stealth and the understanding of the nuances of situations, you remove Ana you loose the grounding force and the mediator.
The same happens with Fareeha, Angela and Cassidy, you remove Cassidy you loose the communication and the understanding that situations aren't black and white, you remove Fareeha and you loose the discipline and order, you remove Angela and you loose the objectiveness and streamlined thinking, you also loose the support she gives.
With both of these groups they can work fine on their own but they absolutely work better as a unit, with the added bonus that no one goes on a downward spiral.
Cassidy is essentially the basis of Fareeha and Angela's communication, he notices when Fareeha is upset. Hell we even see him attempting to comfort Pharah with reaffirming that joining Overwatch was her choice. We haven't seen this much with Cassidy and Angela yet but we do know that they are close and I absolutely think that Cassidy would be similar with Angela.
The problem arises with Cassidy's communication with the fact that he isn't open about his own issues, he's great at picking up other issues and helping them, but when it comes to himself it's very different. He's aware of the issues he has yes, but he isn't willing to talk about them, and because he's aware of these problems he's better at hiding them. Pharah even saying that Cassidy is positive while Cassidy himself defines himself as a pessimist. Angela pick up on it easily but as sated with Fareeha, she's too busy to ask and doesn't have the communication skill needed to pry into Cassidy's psyche if she did.
Something else of note is that even if the in game interaction has Ana asking Angela how Fareeha is going. The one likely in full contact with her canonically would be Cassidy, not only because she chose to meet up with Cole specifically but also because Cassidy is literally the only person to acknowledge that Jack is alive and isn't coming back to help them with Null Sector. So while Angela could be in contact with Ana, Cassidy is probably in more regular contact. Which is good because Cassidy would actual update Ana on how Fareeha is doing.

The Soulless Vincent Theory
Ok so, this is something I typed out on Discord on a whim but I've been thinking about it FOREVER and needed an excuse to finally put it into words that make sense. TW because the Black Butler lore is fucked up, obviously. Also sorry for the lack of paragraphs
Am I the only one who thinks it's possible that Vincent either has no soul or only has a partial soul? Assuming Undertaker is the father, it could be the case that reapers aren't allowed to "meddle in human affairs" because only two humans can create a child with a whole soul. We know reapers should be able to have children because they're essentially in an OP human body (and Grelle's whole motivation in the Jack the Ripper arc revolves around being jealous of cis women specifically which suggests that if she were a cis woman, she'd be able to have children, reaper or not.) This would also make sense of the "new recruits" (citing the reaper ova here) seemingly being all the same age and younger than the on-duty reapers. If reapers have children together, they can't give birth to a body with a soul unless there's a fresh suicide victim's soul waiting in the wings, because if they could, there would be no shortage of staff for Will to complain about. Back to Undertaker though, if he had children with Cloudia, just as in real genetics, they'd have a mix of the parents' traits. So, maybe Francis got the white hair and wicked fighting skills, and Vincent got the lack of a soul. There's something wrong about Vincent's demeanor to me. He's always smiling, it's basically his neutral expression. We almost never see him actually emote about anything, and though he does seem to care about others (his family, for example), so does Real Ciel, who we know for a fact, doesn't have a soul. The same behavior we see in Vincent, we see in real Ciel, not just because they're father and son, but because they both lack a soul. Real Ciel does act more like Vincent in the flashbacks, but not to that extent. He clearly emotes and cares deeply about his brother and his family, to the extent that he wants to give up his position as earl to be with Our Ciel forever. We see no such concern in Bizarre Doll Ciel, who actively sabotages everything his brother worked for and forces him to go on the run. He no longer seems to care for Our Ciel's safety. Similarly, Vincent doesn't even think to train both the boys in the same manner to take over the earldom and title as watchdog, even though there's a chance the younger might have to. Francis on the other hand, trains both her children the same way, because whether or not they're going down the same path, they're still skills that will help them survive and succeed. Vincent, frankly, doesn't seem to care that much about the younger twin's ability to thrive after he's gone. Real Ciel doesn't lack the empathy required to care about others when they're not benefitting him, neither does Our Ciel despite his attitude. Vincent and Bizarre Doll Ciel do. They know enough about human emotions to say what's expected of them. Of course BD Ciel cares about Lizzie, because she's supposed to marry him. Of course Vincent cares about the elder sibling, because he's supposed to take his place as Earl and Watchdog. The people these two care about benefit them in some way. Our Ciel cares about people regardless. He has no reason to let Prince Soma and Agni watch his townhouse, he could just order Sebastian to prevent intruders either himself or by hiring guards. Soma annoys him, but Our Ciel keeps him around despite that.

Biden addressed the Gaza protests. I haven't watched the full address yet, but apparently he said the expected things, ie asserting the right to peaceful protest, while also insisting on the rule of law. So far so good, as President it's his responsibility to uphold both.
I do think he erred in not specifically addressing the violence against Gaza protesters at UCLA, as President he must uphold the rule of law for everyone, regardless of which side they're on.
That said, I think Biden's mostly hands-off approach to the protests and responses to them may actually be a good thing. I'm sure Republicans desperately want a Federal military/National Guard crackdown on the protests- they will play this as being "pro-Israel" and "pro-rule of law", but they likely know that any violence will ultimately be blamed on Biden, and can be more easily blamed directly on him if he orders the National Guard in. Their dream is a Kent State before the election, to break off young and progressive voters*, and get them engaging in street violence that the fascist Right can then use to justify a violent crackdown, and as Whataboutism to deflect from and excuse their own planned post-election violence.
So far, Biden isn't taking the bait. And by keeping mostly hands-off, he is drawing a clear distinction between himself and Trump. Because I trust we all remember how Trump handled the Black Lives Matter protests in the months before the election in 2020 (and if you don't, you really should): He suggested shooting protesters, sent secret police to Democratic areas to grab people off the streets, and used the military to clear out protesters in DC ahead of a photo-op- when he wasn't cowering in the White House bunker.
Once again, Biden's response may be lacking in some respects, but it is WORLDS better than what Trump offers. Except, of course, for Republicans, who was violent unrest to damage Biden, and Leftist/anarchist "accelerationists", who want to maximize violence because they believe it will lead to a Marxist revolution*, instead of the more likely prolonged civil war or fascist dictatorship.
Edit: Think I'm kidding about this? The fascist Right is VERY actively trying to recruit and co-opt the radical Left. If I didn't know that before, the sight of "Communists for Trump" stickers (including one of Marx wearing a MAGA hat) defacing a bus stop in my CANADIAN home town last night would be proof enough.

Fandom etiquette post covid is ABYSMAL and I'm blaming Tik Tok and Twitter for it.
Like I'll be on Pinterest and it's a fanart of Rise! Mikey and Donnie playing video games and half the comments are like "Look at this BROTHERLY LOVE!!!1! No t-cest here!!!"
And it's so annoying because, like, obviously there's no t-cest in the post, but why do these people have to scream it in the comments every time? Like if you're worried about potential t-cest just... DON'T INTERACT???
Or on Ao3, where they straight up do not read tags, but read the fic, and then get mad at the author for OOC or Dub-Con or Non-Con or violence or whatever, and they're trying to report the author for it??
Or the CONSTANT "this story has mild dub-con but I don't support it as an author, it's part of the story!!" in the A/N of a fic like... since when did fandom have to be soooo sooo kid gloved??
Or the entitlement that comes to what the human form of a non-human character should look like, when there isn't really a cannon human form. AND! IF THERE WAS? People will 👏still 👏have👏headcannons👏 but these new age fandom-police losers will straight up death threat a person for a headcannon because they are so anal about things being cannon they're SUCKING THE FUN OUT OF IT!
"This character should be x,y,z race."
No, dumbass, this character should be A ROBOT. This character should be a GREEN MF TURTLE. This character should be A DEMON. Like for fucks sake!!
And the root of the problem? It's the mentality that's come from Twitter, and Tik Tok where there ALWAYS has to be some sort of moral betterment that some random user is morally good because they avoid difficult topics like SA in their fanfiction, or that they're so GOOD because they think human ninja turtles should be black (even if they end up being racist to Asians in the process, by erasing the fact that whatever fanart has the tmnt as Asian and these dweebs just go "Durr hurr why r they white").
They're straight up not tagging things properly on Ao3 because they're so morally good that they wrote "rape" like "r*pe" to censor it, but now people who actually had that tag blacklisted are seeing that content again all the time because "r*pe" ISN'T HOW TO PROPERLY TAG SOMETHING.
Like 10 years ago, people headcannoned Optimus Prime as black, some headcannoned him as white, some headcannoned him as Asian, and if we didn't agree with any of the headcannons, we fucked off and didn't harass the OP for their headcannon. It was a norm (that I believe was better respected back then) that if you didn't like something, you didnt interact with it, you could click away to another thing! But now? If any person makes a headcannon that's different from what these people think the norm should be regardless of whether or not it's cannon, that person is going to be TORN APART. If your headcannon is different from the "fanon norms", you must be morally wrong and you must be a horrible person.
Because if you think a non-human character's human form is light skinned? You must HATE every DARK SKINNED MINORITY EVERRRR!!!!!1!
Because if you have a Non-Con scene or reference in your fic you wrote? You MUST be a RAPIST IRL!!!!!!1!!
Because this "Morally Good Fandom Police" bullshit comes hand in hand with ZERO respect for the already established Fandom community structure/etiquette, and a complete lack of critical thinking skills whatsoever. That the new age fandom wants to be an individualist experience where the single user needs to make everyone else cater to them, rather than that user cater their own experience to what they know they want.
I'm gonna be honest tho, I'm sure I got the 10 years ago thing wrong, I may have been in fandom a while but I'm not gonna ignore that some folks have been around way longer than I have. So if this has been an issue for a while and I was just blind to it earlier, that's a me issue I guess.
TLDR; I think new age fandom is so focused on being morally right that they're ruining the experience for people who have been in fandom for decades.

im not sure if anyone asked you yet, but thoughts on the dunmeshi anime?
thanks for asking! sometimes i forget i exist here as a person cuz i just log on to queue random stuff without making posts 💀
it's pretty rare for me to watch an anime without ever reading the manga, and there've been stellar adaptations recently. ONK, kisekoi, BTR, frieren, CSM just to name a few. in a landscape where we're used to being disappointed as readers who have a frame of reference before watching a show, i had very, very high hopes for the dunmeshi adaptations that weren't quite fulfilled.
i'll dump everything under a cut since i actually have a lot to say, sorry if you were expecting it to be brief 😎
the lines in the artistic style are good, nicely translating the characters into animated format. really no notes there. definitely a nicer comparison for char designs between manga and anime vs. tonsuki and tensura who both have incredible manga styles that the anime stumble over (though in the latter's case, i don't think they were aiming for it sadly)
the shading has been fine, but weakened by the colour choices. some of the dungeon scenes (e.g., living armour stuff) are lit with a medium blue which helps to sell the idea of the scene being in a place not lit by fire (and contrasts it with the making camp & cooking scenes), but the lack of dark shading flattens some of these very well-drawn images.
the earlier chapters don't have the same level of detail as newer ones, but the art style is still fantastic - it's expressive with high contrast and shows action and impact perfectly well. manga will often times have a naturally easier way with contrast due to it being in black & white, but i don't think that means anime should just give up on contrast in favour of playing ineffectively with colour.
here's a night shot of fern from frieren. the choices made here allow for the shading to stand out from the flats and give her more definition overall while still being relatively simple (just flats + shading)
when dunmeshi has more "normal" lighting conditions, it does a lot better. similar to fern up there, there's about the same amount of difference between the flats and shadows, so i really wish they did a better job on the dungeon scenes since they're going to have to deal with non-torchlit scenes plenty. i won't argue that the living armor scene certainly has some kind of a sickly, alien mood to it, but tl;dr i think it should've had darker shading if not also being less green. this largely applies to every other blue-green lit scene they've done.
looking at kui's coloured drawings in the ed gives me an idea of what could've been and it makes me sad to lose out on colour choices more similar to that (even if they obviously can't have her level of detail on top of it)
some of the backgrounds haven't been too interesting but some have been good, overall it's probably fine. plus you can only draw and detail repeating bricks so many times before the viewer gets bored of looking at them anyway, i guess.
the animation is really fun and expressive. it's trigger, so they don't keep scenes stiffly on-model when they want characters moving around. this is good because it helps to sell both action and comedy moments!
the music overall i haven't really cared for? the BGM has not been particularly moving, interesting, or memorable - mostly generic. and i've seen too many fantasy shows for my own good, so i might be harder to impress (but i even remember tenken had a good BGM song or two to make a fight dramatic and that show was barely above average at best)
i'm biased not being particularly into bump, so i would've selected a different artist for the OP (i actually did like the bump OP from SxF though, come to think of it). before anyone makes a wisecrack based on what i've watched lately, no it doesn't have to be yoasobi.
i maybe feel the ED song would've been better for the OP, i don't like the largely peaceful bit of the OP with very still visuals. the OP is where you reel people in! it should be an eye-catching hook, representative of what to expect with some extra sauce on top.
the ED is great, total bop. it's a fine time for slower visuals as an enjoyable wind-down from the episode, so less or no animation is no big deal. plus kui's art is absolutely gorgeous! it all perfectly fits that "end of work" fun and lighthearted mood they were going for.
i largely enjoy the voice acting. i would've personally gone for a less "old man" voice on senshi because he's really not that old for a dwarf, but they obviously wanted to make it clear he was the older, wiser, knowledgeable character.
this might be my own personally most blasphemous opinion, but i would've picked a different VA for falin. i want to make it clear i absolutely adore saori hayami - she's incredible and one of my faves. with that said, her voice fits the character, so maybe it's just because i've heard her too often which is not her fault by any means! i love the voices for laios, marcille, and chil.
it seems netflix's subs go off of the official EN TL of the manga, which makes sense, but i've talked about how i don't like it more than ehscans' TL (which is one of the single best TLs i've read for a series, official or otherwise) and that holds true for the anime ("mad sorcerer" is cooler AND less clunky than "lunatic magician"). i prefer less localisation stuff and/or quirkiness in my subs and more direct translation for both manga and anime.
as for the changes/additions they've made to the show, some of them have been alright and some i didn't care for. they really want to sell marcille as the funny joke character which is why they had her being chased by the basilisk instead of having doni & fionil like it was in the manga which was better for the pacing and had good impact vs a funny clip of marcille running back and forth.
i don't dislike when adaptations add or change stuff, but placing them cleanly is important. dunmeshi is already really funny! i don't think it needs help being funnier by reaching for the cheap laugh. when laios sees two people running for their lives from a basilisk and he just goes "wow that's a bad way to run from that monster", it's already lowkey hilarious - all the more so followed by marcille telling mr. monster-know-it-all to go rescue them if he knows what's up and him rescuing them by making himself big and chicken squawking real loud (which embarrasses marcille and chil, but c'mon guys, at least his idea worked!). i feel like the comedy in laios' funny hero moment is undercut by forcing the marcille butt of the joke moment in the anime.
dunmeshi is already incredibly good at just about everything it does. i feel if an adaptation wants to add or change something, it's often better amplifying a strength or shoring up a weakness in the source material. BTR adds a lot to the source (not hard considering the source is a 4koma) and makes already funny things even funnier. the "we should all get social media" scene is elevated to iconic status with the visual of bocchi glitching out + the VA's inhuman screech. i can't say where i'd really want to change or add stuff to dunmeshi, since it really feels so good and whole, but i'm sure there's room in the process of translating manga panels to animated scenes, and i think the direction overall could've been better (comparing most shows to BTR isn't fair i know because BTR is directed & adapted so well it's hydrogen bomb vs. coughing baby territory)
i've mostly said negative stuff, but i don't want it to sound like i hate or even really dislike the adaptation. i think when it comes to a series you really love, you want to see the best adaptation possible within reason, and the disappointment of stuff not being quite what you were hoping for is amplified by so many other recent adaptations being so good.
dunmeshi does not have a bad anime by any means, but a lot of that is thanks to the source material's quality. if they do another season, i hope they have more time/budget/whatever because i think a lot of the parts it does have are good parts! but in this case, i wasn't hoping for good; i was hoping for great.
trigger makes great shows with wacky storylines (in some ways, the same one wacky storyline, but that's a different discussion) and dunmeshi, being directed by someone who's worked on a bunch of trigger stuff (largely sci-fi leaning), maybe needed some more direction from people who've worked on fantasy stuff? i can't say for sure what would've been enough to take the show over the top, but though i generally don't hope for much from adaptations, i really did have higher hopes for this one than it ended up achieving.
overall it seems i'll end up scoring the show a 7 or 7.5 when i finish the season, though there's certainly still room to wow us all. whatever you feel about the adaptation, whether you liked it or not, whether or not you've read the manga, feel free to comment your thoughts below or in my inbox. let's keep it free of manga spoils for anime-only watchers, though!
#sorry this is REALLY long#ask answer#anon#i've been busy with TEA in ffxiv but i'll try to post more!

Speaking on Zendaya's performance, I wasn't gonna message you about it, but I saw a tweet on that x app, criticising Z's performance and that she should stick to modeling and it really got to me. The op was a black female critique, and it was so sad to see such bitterness come from her. Sometimes, monoracial black women have internalised misogyny when it comes to Z. They blame her for being the acceptable black woman as if she were the one that created that standard in hollywood. Yes, I understand the frustration of lack of black talent, but why can't we stay on code.
I think I'm annoyed because on that account, she was praising the white male actors on dune, but condemning Z. Like at some point, can we stop blamingbwomen we feel threatened by??? Zendaya has gone two emmys and has been in several successful films, and she is somehow still mediocre to some of y'all??? Stop the cap idc.
Sometimes, monoracial black women have internalised misogyny when it comes to Z. They blame her for being the acceptable black woman as if she were the one that created that standard in hollywood. Yes, I understand the frustration of lack of black talent, but why can't we stay on code.
Oh girl... I could spend hours on this conversation alone and the very "complicated" relationship black women have with other lighter-skinned (or biracial) black women in the Black American community. Whewww chiiiiile. 😩😓
But you're absolutely right. It all goes back to slavery, racism, colorism, light-skinned privilege, how monoracial black women are treated vs. biracial black women, etc.
I do feel like sometimes there is a bit of jealousy in there as well...let's be honest. Some monoracial black women see lighter-skinned black women or biracial women being treated better or getting more opportunities, and it can make them feel some kind of way.
Again, those lighter-skinned black women aren't to blame... Blame the society that uplifts lighter women over darker ones.
But anyway... For me personally? I love uplifting ALL of my fellow black women, whether dark OR light....whether monoracial OR biracial. But I do recognize that those with lighter skin usually do have a certain privilege. I don't mind if you have privilege (you can't help what you look like or where you were born any more than I can), but at least ACKNOWLEGE it.
Zendaya has ALWAYS acknowledged her biracial/fair-skin privilege in the industry, that's why I don't have any issues w/her. I do wish we could all stay on code, but alas....That's not to be.
Plus, there are just some women who just don't like Zendaya (FOR WHATEVER REASON) just because. We can't force people to like our faves. All we need to do is focus on our faves and keep it moving.
The sooner you realize that not everyone in life is going to like you (and sometimes, for the silliest and stupidest reasons), the better! It's okay!

it's hot as balls here so I guess instead of a nap, it's Time for me to watch the finale, CME 17x10.
Spoilers and nonsense under the cut.
- I can't remember what happened last week. Oh, yeah. Ok
- Toodles, ha ha
- oh RIGHT. Now I remember. My incandescent Nate rage lol.
- I should not watch this mid-afternoon. Can't see shit
- why would Rebecca's mom know about whatever's going on lol
- minimal loss still ringing in my ears a bit. Sadly (bc this is not that)
- Oh Nicholas d'agosto is in this. Bailey?!
- they did SHIT ALL with the immediate aftermath of the cliffhanger. Ok
- fuck I have to switch to a different room it's too hard to see
- ope. he dead. didn't last long, did he. I did giggle at the dripping blood trail
- sorry that explosion that knocked Prentiss over was really funny
- so their cells were designed to create those bonds
- ok Prentiss is "on trial". yeah, who is we?
- I'm sorry every time they say "Peter B." it gives me bachelor/bachelorette related hives. Another symptom of paget-brewster-fan syndrome. will I ever recover
- is there a weird lack of urgency? Like, remembering back to when scratch kidnapped emily I feel like there was more panic among the team. Hm
- Dave, try telling people what you're thinking and where you're going some time
- uh oh. Is the B for Bailey?
- ah. hm. Pete.
- guys, where are we? and what are we doing here?
- not the black and white flashbacks again.
- EXCUSE ME. "I HAVE A SISTER" a whatnow. is she playing Bailey again
- if I could see the things on my teevee screen I could probably figure out who Pete Bailey is played by. his voice is familiar. Wait, is that the guy who played Wyatt in The Fosters? wow ok
- what a mess.
- loving PG's UFO earrings
- this is confusing as hell. and a lot of exposition
- Rebecca's "fuck you" to Vinny was lovely
- fucking hell this is very confusing.
- JJ "this is Emily"...girl I will always love hearing you say her name
- lol I love when the show *almost* roasts profiling
- did she say "your boyfriend's dead because you shot him babe"? why does this feel off to me? It seems too emotional, too angry? Emily's still off kilter?
- THIS FUCKER. YOU LEAVE JENNIFER JAREAU ALONE
- WHATTT. Penelope Garcia with the stare down?! what am I watching
- please break his face jj (but don't, bc he wants you to).
- damn. but also now we've got the exploitation of two female characters we know...and for what? and I think it's safe to assume JJ's not planning to tell Voit's wife...so we're back in not being honest with people territory... what is the point of all this?
- a blue-flamer? that's a new term to me
- "he had a drive...I used to have it..." hmmmmm
- there's a fucklot going on in here.
- well this is not great for our heroes...
- the stakes do not feel high enough for the story they're telling. like...do we really believe emily/the team is in imminent danger? (we do not.)
- omg how convenient, NOW they figure out is a trap lol
- oh sure the projector's just hooked up to the Internet
- ??????
- [god jj is so attractive]
- but what is this like...CW show hero shot montage thingy
- sorry the silly little troublemaker gibberish certificate on the wall in this scene with Clark Gregg is sending me
- "discretion is the better part of valor" and the shame on Emily's face at that
- party at PG's house
- OH NO. NOOOOO. TYLER APPLIED TO THE FBI. OH NOOOOOO. oh no im so shocked
- JJ "I have never been that high, ever" so I was right! she for sure has partaken before
- "we were more miserable apart than together" what a RINGING ENDORSEMENT for your relationship hahahahahaha 🤣
- Rebecca is looking v cute
- I can't with this show. Ahahaha god I'm laughing so hard. I can't explain to anyone how much I love and dislike criminal minds. What it has become. It delights me so much and it is so disappointing.
I'm going to have to rewatch this episode. There's a lot going on here. I will miss Emily Prentiss forever and always. She left some part of herself in London or whatever, and didn't return when Paget came back to the show. I thought her personality returned a bit in s16, and it did...but I don't know if I know her, this her. Anyone else?
The fact they are keeping on Tyler is not surprising. And I don't super care about it, I find him fairly inoffensive in himself, BUT I fear this means Luke will continue to be sidelined and I'm bummed at that. Maybe they will continue having these two bond and that will give Luke more screentime at least. To be extra funny FBI HR should just reject him outright and the team has to do increasingly inane workarounds to keep using him.
And that Voit is still around... Also not surprising given how much they like Zach Gilford. I personally am not tired of him so much as.... confused about what they're doing with him. With Gold Star they made Voit out to be some sort of manipulative genius, kind of mirror universe Reid. But where can they go from here?
And JJ, my beloved. I don't even know what to say there.
Rossi's still hallucinating. Wonder if he will ever do his 4 hours a day therapy lmao.

If your wondering the reason for my recent reblogs it bc I came onto tumblr where it’s mostly pictures of Taylor Swift on the trending bit straight after seeing the video I’m going to show a screen shot of.
But before that I want to say that the ‘comedian’ who was at the golden globes was terrible and was being misogynistic and overall problematic and the targets of the jokes have the right to be upset. Taylor reacting is not the issue I have with the image attached. I have many issues with Taylor but that’s not what this is about.
The sound playing in the background is the song ‘the man’ by Taylor Swift insinuating that this supposed ‘lack of backlash’ is due to male privilege.
My irritation also stems for the amount of TikTok’s I saw about this incident. This is the only one to bring up Will Smith but the comment section and amount of people agreeing with this take is what made me want to post this.
The comment section is full of people trying to say that Will Smith faced zero repercussions because he is a man. This is factually incorrect. Will Smith got banned from the Oscars for I believe 10 years ? But he did face consequences from the event holders. Will Smith also faced public ridicule and large amounts of racism. News stations reported and it was discussed on chat shows. I think we can all agree that there was a lot of racism in the way this incident was discussed. Many (white) people described it as ‘traumatising’ and blew the slap out of proportion of what it truly was.
I agree that while I haven’t witnessed it people will be and have been misogynistic when discussing Taylor swift.
However posts like these just display the lack of thought and critical thinking the some Swifties have. The lack of understanding of intersecting identities. This is just another example of white feminism, the way in which they can’t understand that while Will Smith is a man he is also black and that affects how people view him and judge him. They never seem to acknowledge that Taylor is a white woman and therefore has a form of privilege, there’s a false narrative that somehow she’s the most oppressed person in her industry.
I could analyse this further but I think anyone with a brain can see just from the screen shot just how absurd this take was and I don’t need to explain any further.
OP is getting debates in the comments and it’s interesting the take she’s going with
The way they double down.
Anyway this was just bc I was getting frustrated at the way some Swifties love to ignore racism. The same way they attacked the young black actress from Ginny and Georgia bc of a joke she didn’t even write and then Taylor did nothing about it. A young actress without the fan base that Taylor has and is aware of how powerful it is.
Again, Taylor wasn’t dramatic for making a face. I have my issues with her pollution, her politics and many other things but she’s a person she can be upset. I saw the clip it wasn’t dramatic.
But she has a fan base that loves to ignore racism and white privileged when it suits them and that last comment i mentioned is bc I don’t think the apple falls far from the Taylor

okay this is my final statement, cause deadass I’m over it now
for the server thing, I did feel sorry and apologized to WHO I needed to apologize to. if I ain’t apologize to you, then idk what to tell you. apologies to the folks that had roles that we lied about.
to the folks that I ain’t never had beef with me, why are yall tryna make somethin out of nothin ? like deadass, some of yall I haven’t talk to in a minute and some of yall I never even interacted with. yall sayin yall fighting for your friends but I’m the villain when I do it ? please get out my face with that. you starting stupid ass beef when I don’t even talk to half of yall wtf. yet I’m childish ? alright.
naj, you specifically, what problem do I have with you? I want you so specific and let me know what we have going on. I never had an issue to begin with, we was never beefing so why tf are you talking so much shit about me? you trying to act all big and bad when I never had a problem with you. now you wanna talk as “civilized adults”, after dragging my name through the mud FOR THREE DAYS ? yeah no, kiss my black ass and suck my damn clit !
do I feel bad that your friend got a death threat ? yes ! but it sure as hell wasn’t me or my mutuals 🤷🏽♀️. unlike yall, we have some couth and don’t be bothering nobody.
y’all constantly say I’m sending high schoolers to fight my battles and paint me as this pussy bitch. meanwhile y’all akeke and laughin with mean girls and damn near bullies, constantly dragging folks names through the mud fa no reason. to this day, yall stay on imani’s ass about a discord server from three months ago, after handing out apologies like an eviction notice. deadass, all seriousness, leave them alone. some of yall ain’t even deserve an apology but hey, whatever helps yall sleep at night
y’all stay coming at me with this “I got high schoolers to fight my battles” and “I got a gang of middle schoolers hyping me up”. boy yall sure don’t know me 😹, yall just assume everything cause some of them have minors in their bio. I got moots that’s my age and younger moots (oldest is 19). on top of that, I’ve met these niggas when I was 17, say it with me SEVENTEEN !
omg, crazy right ? I met them when I was a minor, that’s like so insane ! so if you do the math (correctly !), I’ve known these niggas for two years. I’m sorry that I have a strong ass friendship and I got folks who actually care about me 🤷🏽♀️ . meanwhile, yall are mdni blogs interacting with minors. hmm, but doesn’t mdni stand for MINORS do not interact ? or maybe I just miss a memo ?
small note, yall literally lack math, english, and comprehension skills if you think my friend, juice/mypimpademia, is 14-15. not only can yall not spell, yall don’t make sense either. if she had her blog for about 2-3 years and she’s 14, wouldn’t she be 11-12 writing on here ? oh, hm, that’s doesn’t seem right. y’all just be seeing minor and think it means 13-14, oh y’all do not know the definition of minors…..which means anyone BELOW the age of 18, 10+8, 9+9, 14+4. cmon now guys, I thought we were better than this !

I'll be blunt/honest and say I am not the smartest person/am kinda an idiot. This is not intended to be negative/self-hate, I just strongly suspect the answers to my questions must be obvious to most people. And I'm hoping that acknowledging it will help show the sort of mindset I'm coming from (uneducated/ignorant on the topic I think. But wanting to learn)
I have a genuine question regarding this/the topic surrounding it if it's okay:
If your response to seeing women being celebrated in any way is to say “This needs more men,” then you’re just a misogynist. There are no two ways about it.
I thought the OP/someraven person was trying to say they wanted more transmasc and nonbinary representation (I think they mentioned nonbinary, sorry I could be remembering that wrong) but explained it very poorly/ended up making it seem like transwomen/transfeminine people are at fault in the process (transwomen/transfeminine people are not at fault), do I have that wrong? I'm not too good with words/social cues (I'm not sure if that's the right word for what I'm trying to say, sorry)
My main question though is: How can one say they want to see more transmasc or nonbinary representation in ways that don't take away from/demonize transfeminine people/transwomen? Like what is a better way to go about that? Is there a better way at all?
Because it would be nice to see more stuff with transmen (and nonbinary people, but now my question has shifted toward focusing on transmen/transmasculine people) but I also don't want to unintentionally sound like I'm saying I want less transwomen/transfeminine representation if that makes sense
I guess like: Say something has 10 transwomen, 12 cis women, 14 cis men, and 8 transmen. I'd want everyone bumped up to 14 rather than knocking everyone down to 8.
(1/2)
(Same anon as a second ago, the one who asked about the someraven stuff)
Does that make sense? I don't know if that makes sense. Sorry, I'm not sure if this question is transmisogynistic or not. I'm not trying to be.
— I do want to warn you I am a transman, just very isolated from people (and communities. I have poor communication skills in general and I'm trying to I guess catch up to where everyone is knowledge-wise. I thought I saw something in your About that said it was okay for transmasc people to ask questions though but if I misremembered I am very sorry. You don't have to answer this at all (stating in case you feel pressured to. I don't know how else to say it but now that I type it it sounds like I'm giving you permission which is not my intent but I don't know how else to phrase it. That's the phrase I usually hear from people I'm sorry)
Also, I had a question about this too, sorry:
Remember that, while your experiences are valid and you're allowed to be upset, being mistaken for a transfeminine person will never be as traumatizing an experience as actually being one.
I understand how being transfeminine is more traumatizing than being mistaken for a transfeminine person, the question isn't about that (I think? If it is I guess I haven't made the mental connection sorry). And I understand the "your experiences are valid part" regarding transmasc people but I guess I don't understand how they're valid?
Like, what does valid mean here? Are transmasc people allowed to vent/say when they're upset or does voicing it inherently take away from transfeminine people/transwomen? Is there a way to do it without taking away from transfeminine people/transwomen?
I think it might be important to say that I'm still struggling to unlearn black-and-white thinking (I have Borderline Personality Disorder) and I am 90% sure it's affected how I'm processing this topic/ making me process it wrong but I'm having trouble figuring out which parts are wrong on my own. Thank you for your time regardless of if you answer this or not
(2/2)
Yes, that sometimesraven person did strongly imply that transfeminine people are at fault for the lack of representation for transmasc and nonbinary people. But, more importantly (imo), the argument they were making was extremely bioessentialist.
If all they had said was, “I wish this magazine had included more trans men/other types of trans people,” that would still be a bit suspicious, because transfeminine representation is still trans representation. But they’d at least have the point that it wasn’t being billed as a transfem-exclusive magazine, and representing a diversity of experiences is always a good thing.
There’s nothing wrong with wanting to see more representation of transmasc and other types of trans experiences, nor is there anything wrong with saying that. But what sometimesraven was specifically saying is that there was a lack of “AFAB representation” and that AFAB people were being made to feel isolated within the trans community because of this.
This is just plainly bioessentialism. There is no universal experience uniting AFAB people, trans or otherwise, while excluding AMAB people.
To give you an example of what I mean: Let’s say the magazine interviewed an agender person who specifically spoke on what it’s like trying to present gender neutrality within a highly gendered world. Whether that person was AMAB or AFAB might have had a great deal of impact on their gender experiences; but other agender people, regardless of AGAB, might also be able to read and relate to that article either way. Meanwhile, if a binary trans man reads an article from an AFAB nonbinary woman talking about their experiences partially identifying with their AGAB, he’s probably not going to relate to it very much at all.
I don’t think that what they were saying was the result of poor choice of wording. I think they’re just a transmisogynist who views transfeminine people as being fundamentally different from and incapable of understanding the experiences of “AFAB people.” In other words, a bioessentialist, someone who views people as having innate and immutable qualities based on the gender they were assigned at birth.
As for your second question: Yes, in this context, “valid” means you’re allowed to talk about your experiences, and also that whatever trauma you may have gone through should not be ignored or downplayed.
But — and I don’t mean to sound rude here — I think this is a very social media-oriented way of framing this question. My question would be what does “vent” mean in this context? Does it mean just talking to a friend? Because, yeah, you’re allowed to say whatever you want in the privacy of your own home.
Do you mean posting about it? Because, in that case, you do have to be careful not to detract from whatever conversations about transmisogyny may be going on at the time. Don’t post it in tags which transfems frequently use, don’t vent in transfems’ inboxes or on their posts, make it clear that you’re just venting and it’s not an invitation for constructive discourse… That’s basically it.
For TMEs, there needs to be a separation between the personal, private matter of dealing with transmisogyny — both within yourself, and in whatever ways it may have indirectly affected you — and the public-facing activism of dismantling it within our communities. If you understand that not every step of your journey towards unlearning transmisogyny needs to be broadcasted for the world to see, then it should become pretty easy to recognize when it is and is not appropriate to discuss your experiences with misdirected transmisogyny.
If you ever feel the need to bring up these experiences in discussions of transmisogyny, I ask that you take a minute to reflect and really ask yourself, “Is what I’m saying constructive to the conversation, or do I just need to vent about something that really negatively affected me?” If the answer is the latter, then ask yourself the followup, “Is what I’m venting about something that I really need to share with the world, or would it be better reserved for people that I trust?”
