And Then It Is Monday - Why Sunday's plan did not (and could not) work
Tumblr media
So normally I don't really make longer analysis posts, but I kept seeing people on social media outright supporting Sunday's actions in 2.2, and I wrote something out about why I personally think that Sunday's plan is wrong. I don't know if this is an issue with tumblr as well, given that the people I saw supporting him were on different forms of social media, but regardless.
Before I begin, I'd like to pose a reminder that the opinions in this are mine and mine alone. If you agree, awesome! If not, I'd love to hear your thoughts on it, so long as you're respectful! I have no idea if this is well written or will make any logical sense, but here we go!
(Spoilers for the 2.2 Trailblazer quest under the cut, if that wasn't already obvious)
So the first thing to get off the table: I feel Sunday is a very sympathetic villain, but a villain nonetheless. I understand the people that sympathize with him. I do too, to an extent. He was raised on unhealthy ideals and the belief that he was a "religious figure," one that people looked up to. Other people were allowed to just be, but Sunday always had to be better. He loved his sister, and the people around him, and he wanted to make a better world for them.
But that does not excuse what he did. Making a 'better world' can never come at the cost of taking away people's free will, because that world will never be "better". That's where Sunday's plan falls apart.
Because, yes, there are shitty people in the world, and yes bad things happen. Would it be amazing if we could stop all the bad things from happening ever again, and make the world a much better place? Yes! It would! I would love to live in a world where I don't have to fear for my life and my freedom for an assortment of reasons! But that world doesn't exist--in real life or on Penacony--, and getting it to exist shouldn't be the result of subjugating and controlling other people, because that in and of itself is violence. Albeit a different kind of violence, but violence nonetheless.
Not to mention that things like Sunday's plan and the concept of forcing everyone to act a certain way just to fit this "better world" to me almost serves as a condemnation of human nature and of the very act of choice itself. Your better world starts by saying that some choices are bad, so those choices get taken away, but where does it end? What if someone in charge views a harmless choice as a bad one, and takes away that one in return? Does it stop there, or does it continue, until no one at all is allowed to make any decisions, except those in charge? Who, really, does that benefit?
Consequences for certain choices exist. Generally, society says murder is bad (except for specific circumstances such as self-defense, which technically at that point is no longer even considered murder (at least where I live, it may be different in other areas, but I'm basing this off of my own experience)), so there is a concrete consequence to people murdering people--assuming that they don't get away with it. It doesn't stop people from murdering people, because the liberty of choice is still there, but it shows that just because you can do something doesn't mean you should or that you will escape without consequence.
People are going to do bad things. That is, unfortunately, how humans are. But our responsibility lies in holding ourselves accountable and in promoting growth and healing. That is how you build a better world. Not trapping everyone inside a dream world without any care for their feelings or beliefs, but in getting people the help they need, in fostering a society of positive change and human connection.
And that is why, as "golden" as Sunday's dream may have seemed, it was never going to work. In the end, as the story quest shows, human will and the desire for freedom wins out in the end. When there's a will, there's a way.

“The things I do for love,” he said with loathing. He gave Bran a shove.
all this frothing insecurity is actually so funny if you consider that he is supposed to be the most beloved one by the rest. the bar is in hell with house lannister

gx is so crazy how do you explain to someone with a surface-level understanding of what yugioh is that the series after dm features a hermaphroditic dragon-demon card spirit fusing their soul with the main character, who also has apparently been continually reincarnating for 100s of years with the card spirit's primary goal being to protect him, and when they embrace to fuse he says they shall never part again because they will forever and always from that point on be one jointed soul and body, and also he commits a borderline genocide against the card spirit race (???) and straight up kills some of his friends (they get better), and also there's a character who got his leg broken during an archeological dig and they replaced the broken bone with a dinosaur bone (???) and now he's like part dino and has fucking dino dna (?????????) and they send him to space as his dinosona to destroy a satellite that is about to destroy the earth (????????????), and also one of the teachers in the school (seto kaiba's duel school for dueling) is a homunculus and when he dies his soul (???) gets eaten by his cat and for the rest of the series he is living (?) inside of the cat's body, and also on top of all that theres a cool rival character as expected of a show targeted towards young boys who looks cool but in actuality he's lame as hell like he canonically stinks like shit cause he doesn't wash his clothes and he joins a cult and they get him out of the cult by reminding him that his real personality is being a rancid little stinky smelly bastard loser and no one likes him and he spends the entire series getting completely dunked on and also his main archetype is these things:

and then you have to concede that at the end of the day it is still an anime for a children's card game designed to sell the cards so if you ever try to explain the impact this had on your developing mind at 7 years old you'll sound sick

I was trying to figure out what the word dosanko means which led me to this show
Tumblr media
Fairly standard. Makes me think dosanko is a nickname for girls from Hokkaido, though it’s also a type of horse? (Turns out they’re nicknamed after the horses :) )
Mostly I was just very charmed to see this

Here's Compost! She's my Trubbish bag that I made cuz I love Trubbish. They aren't in the pic but she also has little feet!
Also wanted to show off the pins on the strap. I've got a ton more, but these are the ones I like to go out with. Also, I made the Gear Station icon, bug type icon, and bolt badge pins!

Fuck so I just finished Trigun Stampede and this ending touched me.
The desperation and awfully tragic characterization of Knives clashing with Vash, the themes of duality and “sides” throughout the show coming to a head beautifully.
I like the nod to the first Trigun anime in Vashs haircut in the big cube fight with him and Nai, I thought it was a nice touch! Also Milly will be in the second season? Cool! I’ve heard lovely things about her character!
God the animation was beautiful, not one for 3D but it really worked here!
Okay, final questions: Is Vash dead??? I know at least Wolfwood or Roberto is dead cuz of the picture and the cigarette memorial, but I don’t know who, hopefully not both!!! My guess is Roberto since they’re prob gonna replace him with Milly and have the core characters of the original Trigun in the second season? I think lol
Last thoughts: absolutely wonderful show, already itching for more!!! The characters and story were amazing, though a bit complex for me to get at times lol! The animation style really grew on me as time passed, and this show has an amazing knack for getting me to care for characters I really haven’t known long! Wish the pacing was a bit better, but that might just be my desire to have these people be happy for 2.5 seconds before destruction occurs yet again lol
Though I am not an old fan of Trigun, far from it, as I’ve literally just written my first full experience with it, but I can already see this this is a complete love letter to fans of Trigun
Amazing watch, so happy to have had this experience!!
If you want a list of all my Trigun watch thru posts (can’t imagine why, but still), here they are!!
Part 1
Part 2
Part 3
Part 4
Part 5
Part 6
(Part 7 is this post lol)
Wow, didn’t realize I had this much to say XD

Game: Edgeworth is incredibly touched by the way Maya stood up for him during his trial to ensure they could buy time and prove his innocence, even though she has little reason to do so because of the way he had been treating her up until that point. Gumshoe describes his reaction with “He was so moved I saw his lip trembling”
Anime showing Edgeworth’s reaction:

I'm looking through the shows I'm watching, deciding which ones I could switch over to the spanish dub, and I am now finding out just how extremely anal I am about having to watch things in the original language

Wish there was a liiiittle less spamano where romano is constantly screaming "no please don't", "I hate you" and "leave me alone" to spain and a bit more spamano where romano can keep his easily-embarassed, closed, hard-headed and at times romantic personality without the need to make it seem as if spain is abusing him

I loved the YYH remake (they did so well with the character's mannerisms!) I watched the subbed and dubbed. The actors really got into character, which had me grinning. Like Kudos to Kitamura on nailing the Yusuke run. (Hiei's sped-up ninja run made me laugh. anime ninja runs rarely look serious live-action.) Also, Hongo friggin NAILED Hiei. They did nerf Hiei, his character wasn't written to come off as powerful as he was in the anime.
Botan felt true to the character in the subbed, while the dubbed felt like a new take on the character, but I adored both versions. I mean...She was my favorite when I was little.
But I would have 100% vouched for different hairstyles.
Don't get me wrong the costume department did a good job on the hairstyles - they looked good. (the rest under the cut to save dash space)
However, personally, after seeing hundreds of cosplayers dress as these characters, I've seen many options on executing the hairstyles from the original anime that would have made it feel more like the original character design.
They also hold up pretty well with stunts, as we all know, cosplayers can get physical while LARPing.
Unless they were going for more realism, then I totally get it, but the realism was gone when people started booty-hopping over cars 🤣😂😆
I loved it. It was so much fun to watch this remake. My younger self would have been happy with this aswell.

heya! not sure if you answered this elsewhere already, but will you be watching the tgcf donghua in the og chinese or in eng dub? I only ask because while it’s typically recommended to consume content in its original language (something I myself always recommend), I gotta say that the donghua’s english dub is FANTASTIC! The voice actor of Hua Cheng, James Cheek, actually has read the books and is the screenplay writer for season 2. Also, he makes Hua Cheng sound like he’s on his hot boy shit 24/7 😩 Of course, it’s up to you! I’ve seen many people watching both (like myself). It gives two incredibly different watching experiences, but I just gotta shout out this eng dub because I usually am always against watching dub — not this time, lol. Also, the og chinese has pretty terrible subtitles tbh, like confusing mistranslations :/
I'm giving the english dub a shot, yes! I'll try it out for 2x01 and if it's as fab as everyone says I'll stick with it. <3

I saw Poor Things twice back in January, and I just now saw a gif set that reminded me why I was so annoyed with this movie and will forever be annoyed with people calling it a feminist movie, or a movie about bodily autonomy and female desire, or a movie about sex positivity, but ignoring the fact that Yorgos et al chose for Bella to have no visible body hair with the exception of her pubic hair. They chose not to address menstruation. They chose not to address sexual or reproductive health with the exception of that one line right at the end. She also has no real friends, female of otherwise, aside from maybe Toinette, but the movie also keeps this relationship frustratingly vague. That one sex scene between them is presented so out of context, I'm still annoyed by it.
I think those are all, of course, choices that can be made. But why would you? Especially when sexual and reproductive health are major themes in the book. Why intentionally ignore menstruation when the book makes it a point early on to explicitly state that Bella feels no shame about her period because she has always had one and never been made to feel ashamed. The version of Bella in the book menstruates. There was no reason to cut this from the movie version. And even if Bella didn't menstruate, at least one of the women at the brothel would.
Whenever I read a review of the movie that criticises the way the sex scene are shot, I'm also reminded of Yorgos saying in an interview that it was important for him to tell this story from Bella's POV. This makes sense because the book's narrative is filtered so heavily, it's unclear which events are actually real. It's unclear what actually happened to Bella and what was simply made up by the men in her life. But the movie felt like it mostly used this change in perspective to be more explicit about the sex scenes.
Also, how does a movie about an ostensibly bisexual woman only feature one sex scene with another woman? Bella is bisexual in the novel. In the novel, Bella marries primarily because she needs a certain social standing to open her medical practice and be taken seriously. The reason she becomes a doctor in the novel is in order to help other women. She wants to provide reproductive care for other women. She doesn't become a doctor because she likes cutting people open, which seemed like it was the only or at least the main reason given in the movie.
I think in many ways, Poor Things is an intriguing and maybe even excellent movie. But overall, I'm so disappointed by the way it treats those topics. And I'm so disappointed that, when I was telling my friend about it, I had to conclude my review with, "Tbh, I don't think I liked this movie."
Also, I just remembered the "Everyone Is Beautiful but No One Is Horny" essay! I last saw Poor Things in late January but this also seems applicable. It had a lot of sex but also felt oddly sterile. (Or that's how I remember it.)
