I just had an idea, based on that art you did of Matt and Mello babysitting. what if they have to take care of some kids at a pool? I imagine Matt would be the sort who'd get the kids to jump into his arms from the pool side while Mello desperately tries to get them to put on some sunscreen in the shade so they don't burn haha (also I hope you're having a wonderful day!)

Mello for sure holds a lengthy monologue about skin-cancer and melanomas and the kid later asks his mom what Mello-gnomes are.

They both need to work through some body issue hurt cause the kids comments did more damage than they're willing to admit. Mello's like "I'm an ex-mafia boss - as if the words of a little kid hurt me" but they did.

Reposting my post about Itsuki and Sensui relationship canon status: I would like to clear the misunderstanding. 😇 Togashi absolutely confirmed Itsuki and Sensui relationship status here.

This is the original text in Japanese confirming their dating status:

Togashi used "つきあい始める" (or tsukiai hajimeru) which means "to start dating" or "to begin a relationship". Even if you don't speak Japanese, you can easily find this meaning online with a quick search, too.

These are all basic websites with not much dive in the Japanese slang use but you see can see the context and clearly intended meaning of the phrase/word/verb used by Togashi sensei.

Tsukiai can refer to "association" or "relationship," and it's often used in the context of romantic relationships. And hajimeru (始める) means "to start" or "to begin". When you combine them in a phrase like ""...仙水に倒されかけるが 、 その後仙水と * 、 つきあい始める..."" it conveys the idea of initiating a romantic relationship with someone. It implies that Itsuki and Sensui transitioned from a state of not being romantically involved to starting a romantic relationship.

The context of the phrase Togashi added right after is also VERY important:

translates to "It seems he was seeing other humans before meeting Sensui." ( Or, "going out with other humans before meeting Sensui).

With this additional context it further suggests that the character began dating after a close encounter with Sensui and Itsuki had been involved with other people prior to meeting Sensui.

I don't know why focus on the general meaning of the verb tsukiai, when the context explicitly translates to started dating or started a relationship, or seeing each other romantically. Also, in Japan, this is used as a popular "slang" between teens and younger folks to confirm/imply a relationship.

The entire context of the phrase and the words here are confirming their status as dating. Its inconspicuous to say that つきあい始める is not used here in a romantic context, instead of focusing on what the verb tsukiai can mean WITHOUT the provided context.

I hope I cleared this misconception, and you can further find information about the phrase in Japanese, and just search the phrase in Japanese and you will find Japanese website and forums talking about how they want to refer to their significant other or how to express they are dating someone.

what does your writing process look like?

Okay so step 0: become haunted

Invariably, a scene manifests in my head, and the longer it sits there, the stronger the urge to write it becomes. Not all scenes make the cut-- there's a lot of ideas that don't meet my standards of IC, and others that would be good, but require more work to develop than I'm willing to invest. I'm avoiding working on any intentional multichaptered fics until Permission Slip is finished, so those ideas stay on the shelf.

Usually the tipping point is when I realize I've worked out the specific wording to start writing it down, and then it's all ogre.

Step 1: write

I go to the appropriate file (all of my SAMS fics start on one of three documents: Eclipse-focused, Ruin-focused, and NSFW. Permission Slip is all in its own file as well), pick a spot between the existing WIPS, and write down the scene that's in my head. Usually there's multiple by this point, and I often end up with about 1200 words of 3 or 4 scenes as a starting place. About half the time I'll go back and add a brief summary, just to keep track of what it is I wanted to do, but I've found that extensive outlines actually discourage me from writing, cos my brain is like "oh you already did it"

Step 2: write some more

The 3 or 4 scenes I've written have gaps between them, often pretty big ones, so I just fill in those gaps with more scenes. Over and over, until there are no more gaps. This can take anywhere between a couple of sessions to several months.

8'D and yeah that's it. Give it a good readthrough for errors and publish to AO3.

I don't write sequentially. Instead, i move from most to least interesting, writing whatever scene happens to be in my head and filling in the gaps later. I've found that the tough bits will always be tough, and I don't want to fight through them to get to what I really want to write, only to no longer be interested by the time I get to that part. This doesn't work for everyone, and some folks do better when motivated by the reward of writing the good bit.

Google Docs has an Outline feature, so each WIP gets at least a temporary title so i can navigate to it easily. For Permission Slip, I also use the outline to move through the chapters without a lot of scrolling, giving the active sections little names to keep up with them.

Permission Slip also DOES have an actual outline... kinda. Actually, it has two. One is a general outline of events over the course of the whole story, kept in the 'notes' section of the document. The other is the short, scene-specific outlines that get jotted down for each section. A multi-chaptered fic is really just a bunch of oneshots, if you think about it.

General advice:

Keep a 'Graveyard' document of all the scenes you've cut. It's so much easier to admit to yourself that something isn't working when you know it won't be completely deleted, and you can go back later and maybe yoink some stuff off the cutting room floor.

Share tidbits with your friends on Discord. Write a little section you think is particularly good? Copy+paste it and share it with someone you know will cheer you on!

A Mammon Analysis Written By A Mammon Kinnie! :8D

It's time to make y'all love this magnificent bastard even more than you already do so we can finally have something just happen in this fandom!

First off, the analysis.

A lot of people seem to think of Mammon as "dumb" or "oblivious", when he's far from either. Mammon is actually a very intelligent and attentive person, but just like most subtle things about him, it can be hard to notice because of his eccentricities.

As far as I see it, Mammon views everything he does as an investment to some extent, whether it be a literal monetary one or one of time, effort and/or attention. This is also one of the big things that make him so relatable to me. It's also worth noting that as a flipside to this, he also sees any option he's presented with in terms of physical or emotional value and trying to maximize said value as much as possible.

Mam doesn't interrupt "Two Minutes Notice" not because he's stupid, but because insults don't truly detract from the value of him or anything he has, not to mention the fact that he could tell that a lot of people would be willing to buy the song, just look how many are hanging of Fizz's every word when he describes having a crappy boss.

Likewise, criticizing Fizz's weight is something Mam solely does because it helps profits and has no genuine personal issue with Fizz potentially getting chunkier.

This shows something else interesting about Mammon, he doesn't really want to do destructive things, people just keep giving him every reason to do so, he's not dangerous on his own.

Every action Mam takes that makes Fizz uncomfortable is a direct result of him catering to what the consumers want, whether it be religiously watching his spokesman's weight for the sake of keeping the skinny sex-bots accurate, or forcing a mentally unstable person to spend a lot of time socializing to get people to pay admission for a meet-&-greet.

There's also the fact that he runs Greed in such a way that benefits Hell as a whole way more than Ozzie and Bee do. Admittedly, he over charges for his products, but said products are up to snuff, you'd expect him to peddle cheap junk that falls apart almost instantly, but no, he makes quality products and just charges extra. He really is a shrewd businessman when you get down to it, and that's something a lot of people have sadly overlooked when discussing our favorite spider.

Which brings me to my next point, Mammon being a spider is actually really clever, assuming what I'm about to describe was intended and not just me reading too much into a cheap Australia joke. Spiders are often shown as eerie and a way of reminding the viewer of a piece of media that nature can be scary, and though they do some really weird and freaky stuff, that's also the beauty of spiders. They have some of the most innovative and distinct hunting patterns in nature, they're more of a neutral presence, just like greed itself.

I've seen many people claim in their analysis of Mammon that "greed can't be good" which is just demonstrably untrue, greed is really just any action that prioritizes bettering oneself, it's only destructive if you are willing to be destructive, but even then it can lead to innovation and broad positive change, even if someone is worse off because of it.

Lastly, I want to discuss Mammon's obvious need for personal affection, the big guy is blatantly touch starved and craves a close connection, I have a rather headcanon-y idea about the origin of this behavior and I plan to link to it once I post about it in detail, but that can wait. However, this does reflect that idea of value and investment, Mam has yet to find someone who is both pleasant for him to be around and whose company has a reasonable "price". I see many possibilities for exploring this facet of his characterization and look forward to seeing the discussion about it grow.

Munakata commissioned a portrait of himself and decided to hang it in the main office in order to boost everyone's work performance 🤭 

How kind of Munakata, he’s helping to improve morale 8D Imagine he’s noticed that post-ROK with everyone being so busy it seems like morale at S4 has gone down and work is getting sloppy. Naturally as their King (even without powers) it is his job, his duty, to be sure that his men are happy and fulfilled in their jobs. The obvious answer is more bonding experiences but everyone’s so busy there’s not a lot of time for bonding, and anyway when Munakata mentioned this to Fushimi-kun in passing the response was oddly hostile (“Do you want to die?”, and isn’t Fushimi-kun always so adorable that way). He ends up stopping by Bar Homra for a drink, the Homra guys are there but beat a quick retreat when he shows up. Munakata notes that Homra is lively as always, Kusanagi gives this tight laugh as he’s like yes I guess so. He wonders what brings Munakata to his humble bar and Munakata says he simply needed a drink to help calm his mind. As he’s drinking he spots Anna looking at something on the wall with a small smile. He greets her and walks over to see what she’s looking at, it’s a bunch of Totsuka’s old photos displayed on the wall. Munakata notes that Anna seems happy about these pictures, Anna smiles softly and says this is an important place for Homra too. 

Naturally this gives Munakata an idea. Several days later the squad walk into the office to see a large intimidating portrait of Munakata hanging on the wall. Everyone is very confused, Doumyouji wonders if Captain died because doesn’t this look like a funeral portrait, Hidaka nervously asks Gotou if the painting is cursed or is that just his feeling. They’re all discussing it when Munakata walks in, pleased that the portrait turned out so well. Akiyama hesitantly tries to ask why there’s a portrait of Munakata on the wall but Munakata simply smiles and says he hopes this will allow everyone to do their work to their best ability before heading back to his office. So of course now everyone is deeply concerned by what he could have meant by that, like can he spy on us through the portrait, is the portrait sentient and watching us, did Captain supplant his personality into the portrait. The story of the cursed portrait quickly spreads throughout S4 and no one wants to work in the main office anymore, always finding excuses to use conference rooms or do field work. Munakata is impressed at how well everything worked out, truly his portrait has raised his team’s morale and boosted performance as intended.

I swear I'm going to get things done.... this is just a second outline I have no idea how I'm going to do her chitin and whatnot. My style is cartoony and simplified while hers is realistic and complex. I'll figure it out. The second part is coming out I need to finish the two boys new refs and then it'll be out. Hopefully in the coming days.

TLDR: Savathûn is my favorite character in Destiny 2 and I want to draw her sometime and some headcannons. And I'll probably post more doodles.

Alright here's another rant. Savathûn. Where do I start? Imagine mostly everyone playing 3D chess in Destiny 2. Some people like Eris and Ikora think about 4D chess level. The Witness is kinda dumb I'm not even gonna try to guess the dimension of chess they play. Savathûn though? She's playing like, 8D chess. Oh yeah Mara too but she's at 6D chess for me. Savathûn has everything planned out when it comes to a scheme. Look at Season of the Witch for example. She knows the Vanguard have no choice but to accept Immaru's deal (Savathûn's Ghost and he's an egotistical jerk) of reviving her. In the Dusk and Dawn lore tabs in game it's mentioned how she has ideas for who might take the offer. Caiatl, Ikora, but her main one being Eris Morn. She knows Eris is capable of things but restrains herself. And in that season we see Eris slowly lose herself but come back. She understands what's at stake. And she specifically wanted to be revived because of the pattern on her wing (Although she mentions Eris could find another way to defeat Xivu. Without reviving her which she remarks would be interesting. But there'd be no real way to get into the Pale Heart without the 15th wish so plot device). Which obviously leads into Season of the Wish. She planned that. A LONG TIME AGO. My guess is around the time she got revived by the Traveller. We know after Season of the Lost it happened and there's a time gap. Between that and Witch Queen. Also she has Imbaru Logic to counter the Sword Logic. Basically she gains power by tricking people and making moves no one expects. When she's revived (in Dusk and Dawn lore tabs) she says how they're having a fun game. She's basically toying with everyone. But she's not a bad guy. That's actually why I asked @phlurrii about if they had an anti-hero in AM (Check them out their story is really cool). She basically hid the Veil (magical mcguffin Witness needs to go into the Traveller) on Neptune because she realized what the Witness was planning. To me that's her turning point and when she becomes an anti-hero. She loves doing things on her own. But she can see when she needs help and where. She's not evil. But she's not good because she's working toward her own selfish goals. She's neutral. And she'll align with good or evil if it benefits her and her alone. Which is why she teams up with the Vanguard in the first place. She knows we're loot hungry goblins who want anything and everything in the Sol system that can be obtained. And now that The Witness is dead, there's no one to oppose her. Xivu? Nah she's mortal and if Eris says we can turn her worm into a rocket launcher like Savathûn's or another weapon we'd be hunting her down. Maya? She's kinda, vibing in her own way on Nessus and does plan on going to other planets as we see in Echoes. Yes the Echo of Command gives Maya a lot more power. But Savathûn still has the oversoul spell. So even if she dies outside her throne world she doesn't need Immaru to revive her there. She'd just spawn back in her Throne World and Immaru can revive her from there. She always thinks three steps ahead. Except for when we kill her in Witch Queen. She says she "miscalculated" thinking the Guardian couldn't kill her. Either way it still plays to her goals. If we didn't kill her we'd need her still to get into the Pale Heart. We did kill her and still needed her. She's just a really cool character I can't not gush about. I know Bungie can be really bad at writing sometimes. But how they've written Savathûn is just... amazing. So rant over there'll probably be another one down the line when we get Heresy. Hooo boy that'll be a doozy going back to the Dreadnaught. I want the next Echo to have the soul of Oryx in it.

I think.. Ruin is innocent only as long as Eclipse is suspicious of him. Cos of narrative tropes, you know?

While Moon was the most suspicious, there was definitely an angle of 'aha! my paranoia was justified!' that could be taken.

With Eclipse being the most suspicious of Ruin, Ruin has to be innocent. Because Eclipse is a 'not-exactly-retired-but-currently-on-hold' antagonist. As an antagonist, Eclipse cannot be allowed to be right. Because if he's right, it means that the good guys are wrong, and good guys can't be wrong even when they are the narrative just ignores it i will never get over the fucking time out box i will never get over the fight.

So pretty much the moment Eclipse figures out someone else to hound, its gonna be like 'ah, yeah, it's Ruin'.

(Anyway the idea of it actually being Ruin makes me a little sad, even though your points are exhaustive AND excellent, I'd recently found out about the spell copying myself-- but like. This fandom decided KC was a dad and that Lunar and Eclipse secretly miss having a sibling relationship, I am more than capable of tossing a blanket over Ruin being the culprit and going 'nope! 8D' for fanwork purposes XDDD)

I mean you're totally valid.

And I think it'll be actually interesting for the heroes to be wrong.

Right now the track record is really bad with Lunar killing Eclipse.

(Although I will cry about KC's missed potential forever. KC had no reason to NOT fight and had no reason to disown BM so hardily. )

Although. Eclipse never said he hated Lunar.

Eclipsev3 wanting to use Lunar as a battery came at him because a Directive put it in his head to do it. That's why he was talking to himself and seeing hallucinations of himself. He was losing it (and he'll lose it more) But Eclipse never said he hated Lunar. Eclipsev2 also never killed him. He left him alive intentionally. He was all powerful. He knew he left a nanobot alive. He wanted to kill part of himself.

Lunar said a deep desperate part of him wants to go crawling back to Eclipse. (said in LAES when Moon and Lunar had their therapy talk with Earth.)

However. Ruin has just lied about everything. I do not trust him as far as I can throw him.

And we sadly already know what Cured Ruin Sounds like....... And The Ruin that we have now... DOES NOT sound like that.

Davis was clearly channeling Fnaf Canon Eclipse for Ruin during the small times he broke through with his "help me"s.

And the Ruin we have today certainly just sounds the exact same as Virus Ruin, just more timid and less crazy.

Also... Eclipse V2 before he died said some interesting things THAT HAVE ALL COME TRUE SO FAR.

Star beings that are coming, Lunar being the key to set things in motion.... All of Eclipsev2's predations before his death came true.

Evil!Sun says that he knows who Made Eclipsev3-4. He also told Moon to listen to Eclipse.

So far. Eclipsev3's number one suspect is Ruin.

Evil!Sun basically told Moon like "I know who it is. Listen to the crazy person who is hacking out a lung to talk to you."

So for me personally, I think it's explicitly confirmed who made him at this point.

(I decided to do a "fun" little AU moment for this one 8D because I do what I want forever and dgaf because I had an IDEA.)

For all that Gaius Baelsar insisted he was no longer an enemy of the Scions, Kit still gritted her teeth in a glare at him as Alphinaud was returned to their care. Grudgingly, she thanked him for caring for him, for seeing he came to no further harm than he already had. Once they were satisfied that Alphinaud was as Gaius said Kit was able to turn her attention to the other things the so-called Shadowhunter had to share with them.

While he explained the knowledge he had gathered while hunting the Ascians—certainly he was history's most wronged man at their hands—Kit's eyes fell to the clattering chain of red masks affixed to his belt. It did not take her long to draw conclusions, the dots from his gunblade to his scornful tone and the way he ground the word Paragon between his teeth easily connected. Her eyes scanned over the trophies the thought he carried, finding herself suddenly distracted. It shouldn't have bothered her. Should not have pulled her thoughts to a nearly panicked halt as she tried to pick out anything familiar.

Even knowing what she did about Ascian souls, a strange, cold dread tightened her ribs. Surely that mask would have been a prized trophy. It would have had pride of place. Yet its absence brought her no comfort.

She should not have needed comfort.

"Kit, are you well?" Hien asked. He rested a hand upon her shoulder. "You appear shaken."

She shook her head out of whatever stupor held her. "I'm sorry. This is… a lot of information."

Perhaps she should have told Gaius what she understood. That his efforts were very likely in vain. Perhaps she should have asked more questions about what a Paragon was. What or who was Emet-Selch. Done more to fake acceptance of the branch of peace Gaius tried to offer her. Instead, she forced a reassuring smile to Hien, and agreed when the others decided to depart the Burn.

The distraction did not leave her, constantly haunting her as they sought answers to the mysteries of aether irregularities. Did not leave her even as her feet set upon the ground once again in Mor Dhona. Even as everyone else made for the Rising Stones.

"The others will be gathering as soon as they can arrive," Thancred told her. He crossed his arms, lifting a questioning brow. "Where are you off to so urgently?"

She opened her mouth to tell him, but she was not certain herself. "I won't be long," she promised.

He looked as though he wished to argue, but she did not give him a chance. She approached the aetheryte and disappeared before he could give her reason not to.

She had not realized she'd intended to go to Horizon until she was there. Did not know how she knew to take a chocobo to Parata's Peace. Did not know how she knew without a doubt she would find him there as the sun dipped from the sky. Yet there he was in the spot they'd first come face to face, white robes and red mask obscuring almost everything identifiable, save his mouth drawn into a firm line.

"What is the meaning of this, Warrior of Light?"

"You live." Had the tightness in her chest been there this entire time? Only by its immediate absence did she notice how it had stifled her breath. She gasped as she finally drew air in fully, and they remained that way, fixed in a stare. Locked in place.

Finally, he tilted his head, hardly a motion at all, nearly swallowed in entirety by the hood that engulfed most of his face and head. The line of his lips dipped into a frown. "Am I expected to understand how this is a surprise to you?"

"Not anymore than I understand this," she said as she strode forward with intention. As he did not flinch or move as she crossed the space between them. Did not stop or resist her as she grasped his face. There existed no reasoning nor thought. She simply kissed him. Sighed with a deep shudder as if something inside her had been set free, and nearly burst into tears when he grasped her face, the claws of his gloves barely skimming the apples of her cheeks, and returned it. Nothing about it made sense, and yet it felt correct in its wrongness.

Kit pulled back with a surprised sound. "I…"

"This changes nothing," he said with distant wonder underscored with outrage.

They stepped apart with equal steps, some unseen force finally squeezing between them. "I know."

Magicks churned the air as the portal appeared, and Kit stared into the darkening horizon as he vanished through it.

For everyone's dashboard consideration, I'll put it under the readmore and point out, once more, this is all silly headcanons that flip flop around so like... yeah.

Here we go!

For Dee: - I like to imagine her parents are something akin to a doctor/herbologist, which is why she is so into reading about facts and such. I also like to imagine her parents as inter-racial though that one is still being figured out (and with it, I like to think she's bilingual). - She is the easiest to make laugh no matter how tough she tries to come off as. And she is tough, but Boybrush and Chuckie know exactly what to do to make her laugh really hard. - She bonded with Chuckie over a mutual interest in pirate trading cards, they had a bit of a competition who could have the better deck before really bonding and sharing facts (she got really excited to learn it was Chuckie that got Boybrush into it too). - Refused to believe Guybrush could hold his breath for ten minutes until Boybrush grabbed her arm and took her to see his dad where Guybrush did it (more or less). She is determined to learn the science behind it and wonders if she could do it too. - Very protective of her boys and will throw hands at the nearest bully if they hurt either of them. It takes both Chuckie and Boybrush to hold her back.

For Chuckie: - His dad is a sailor and is pretty often out at sea (so not so much a negligent dad, but someone who is out on jobs pretty frequent to make sure the family is provided financially), so he's with his mom who occasionally takes odds and ends job. - Speaking of mom, I don't know why I'm drawn to the name Marigold but I am so.... tada. - Chuckie is incredibly shy talking around adults. He can and does joke and throw remarks around Dee and Boybrush, but when an adult enters the room? Goes quiet and lets the others do the talking. - Tallest of the group (and grows up to be THE tallest, sorry Boybrush) and can often be mistaken for someone who is rough... but he's not. He's a big ol' softy (except, again, around Boybrush and Dee where he's more relaxed and will get protective if needed). - Initially terrified of Guybrush. He's heard of stories and tales and such and was a bit of a fan of them somewhat, and he really loves hanging around Boybrush, but a part of him is terrified that Guybrush will go after him because his name is similar to LeChuck and tries to limit as many interactions with Guybrush. It wasn't until Boybrush asked his dad to talk to Chuckie and Guybrush reassuring him that he has nothing to worry about, he won't go hunting after his son's best friend, and even apologizes for scaring him unintentionally (though he has no idea what he did exactly).

For Boybrush (Lucas), - He wanted to go to school only because Chuckie and Dee were there. It takes a lot to rile Boybrush up but she can do it in no time by insinuating that his parents aren't really his and that he is adopted etc. She will also bully and say things how Chuckie is really LeChuck's son and Dee will be alone... He compares her as his LeChuck with how angry she makes him. Bonus of Guybrush and Elaine: - Even though Boybrush gets great education from Elaine, Winslow, and occasionally Guybrush, he still wanted to go to school. Elaine initially was confused but figured it would be good for him to socialize while Guybrush doesn't get it but won't stop his son either... he wants him to have the things he never had when he was a kid (school, parents, friends etc). - Guybrush is great with English and can and does help not just Boybrush, but Chuckie and Dee with their homework from time to time. But it's Elaine Boybrush goes to for any and all other subjects. Primarily math. - Guybrush and Elaine are really good friends with Chuckie and Dee's parents. They figured it didn't hurt to befriend other parents since, with respect to Carla and everyone else, they could use some time with other parents. - Hilariously enough, although Chuckie is scared a little of Guybrush, Guybrush is really good friends with Marigold and offers to help her when he can while her husband is away. Elaine finds it endearing that Guybrush even offered such a thing and is proud of him. - During one of their adventures, Guybrush, Elaine and Boybrush ran into Chuckie's dad while he was on a job. Chuckie's dad got so excited and asked them for when they go back home to deliver a present to his wife and son since he won't be home for a bit. - Guybrush, Elaine, and Marigold don't exactly get along well with the PTA, but it's Guybrush that has an on-going feud with Helen from the Parent-Teacher Association. He initially did not care for it (he's a pirate, why would he care) but it was when Helen said something akin to being a bad parents that had him go into Spiteful Mode and learn how to properly bake better lemon squares. He will also trash talk with Marigold during any meetings if Elaine is there with them.

Best excuses?

My (18M) high-school sports coach is starting to get suspicious. I’ve been squatting in abandoned houses for a while but he’s starting to ask questions about where my parents are. Sometimes I sleep in the locker rooms at the school but I thought he didn’t take too much notice. I’ve been telling him my parents are too ‘busy with work’ to meet him for a while now and it’s getting way too repetitive.

Last night at training he told me that it was really important that my parents showed up for our next game. I’m old enough that he shouldn’t be able to call Child Services but I’m worried he might try to get authorities involved. What are your guys’ best excuses to explain why your parents aren’t around?

Foxes in for ANOTHER bad year

Look, I love this school as much as the next person but someone has got to say it. They seriously need to do something about the exy team. They’ve always been an embarrassment but since that famous guy came here last year it’s just been hell. The vandalism was one thing, but it just went WAY too far - I even got egged walking through campus on game nights last year.

I thought maybe they’d use some common sense and try to sort out their line up (maybe find some players that are actually good?) but I’ve just heard that the new striker recruit is already in hospital - the school year hasn’t even started yet! They don’t have enough players as it is and the ones they do have are freaks that get more red cards fighting eachother than they do fighting for possession of the ball.

Can they just cut the team’s funding? It probably just gets spent on bailing players out of jail anyway. Isn’t anyone else embarrassed to tell people that the Foxes are their school’s team?

AITA for knowing what’s best for my team?

I (20M) have transferred schools (due to personal reasons) recently and joined one of the sports teams. My previous school’s team, which I was a major player in, is the best performing school in the country, if not the world. I’ve been training and studying this sport for as long as I can remember, and I’ve been told my whole life that I am destined to go pro.

My new school’s team is arguably the worst team I have ever seen. A team of blind elementary school students would probably perform better. The players are antagonistic and don’t listen to authority or guidance, the coach recruits based on pity over talent, and the uniforms are horrendous.

I was brought in to the team to offer expertise and help them improve, but none of them can be bothered to put in the work to get any better. It’s like they don’t care, although most of them are relying on the athletic scholarship to keep them at university.

Recently, our new recruit for the upcoming year pulled out of their offer. I’ve been scouring recruitment footage and studying players from high school teams to try and find the best fit, someone who I can use to improve the team’s overall performance. After all my hard work, I finally found the perfect fit. He’s definitely an amateur, but from seeing how he plays I know I can make him one of the best in our district, if not more. The problem is, no one else is that convinced. I’ve put my foot down and demanded we recruit him, and everyone is making a fuss about how much of a “prima-donna” i am.

I know exactly what this team needs and how it can improve, and no one is taking me seriously. Everyone is annoyed with me but it’s too late, we’re flying out to recruit him next week.

None of these guys know anything about winning, and I’m the only one with the knowledge under my belt to actually get us a shot at making it this year.

Am I the asshole for wanting my team to be winners?

EDIT: It’s not narcissism, this team is a MESS. All I want to do is get some sense of teamwork, for them to actually CARE about winning. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to perform well?

Happy Birthday Portugal

Despite of the very fast art, hope you like it~ I made it with all my love. Happy Day portuguese friends!

As last year, I put them a lot of symbols, so I'll explain this mess a little bit:

In my headcanon, nations have several phases in important and formative points of their histories, so I chose the roman province (Lusitania) and the islamic Portugal, under the influence of Cordoba's Caliphate. The contrast of Faiths on him (The Pagan, The Islamic and the Catholic) is the point of the picture. That is why I divided Port in a trinity, too.

In the same idea, some phases are not humanoid; his primal form, before being the tribe of "Lusus", is a dragon; which is in the shield since then, and of course a sea dragon or a marine serpe, like a big spirit around himself. So yes, deep down he is a dragon~.

The appeareance of the central figure, on the other side, represents three mixed phases: The Templar, Age of Discoveries (The Navigator, as I call him), and the modern Portugal after WWs. No more an Empire, but with blue blood yet, with the pose of a king. Clothes are not historical accurate because they are a mix of several ages: Vasco Da Gama's style; some parts of templar armor (the arms and the sword, the cross in the chest); imperial green but at the same time with a touch of modern militar uniform; everything sharing flag's colors with the cape and the throne.

The little one is more savage and quiet, but protective, since that's the memory of Portugal about himself being Lusitania: only to protect his little brother of Rome. He's longer hair and simple cloth.

The provocative teenager is also a little bit pirate, because he has the old loved eye scar (which for me Port had it, but time erased it) and he stole the golden scimitar from his old tutor (aka Hassan, the older cousin of Ottoman), and killed him it 8D.

Also! lavender is not in a flower form this time, but in the color of the hat and the handcuff; with them, some cock feathers (black, red and green), part of the symbolic animal he has.

The compass, the most famous instrument for discoveries, is on the floor; but the sword points it with human blood. I think I don't need to explain why.

And of course, the coast (the floor) and the sea beyond; and the phrase of the country at his feet.

She is a VERY light sleeper. despite her outward behavior, she never ever lets her guard down. It's not healthy but at least it's not.... unhealthy if u know what I mean... it's kind of just her personality, lol. She's used to catching some winks when she can but at home, she will relax just a little bit (she sleeps most comfortably in the nude) but you bet she always has a gun within reach.

🐈 CAT — does your oc prefer a wide circle of friends or a few close friends?

No friends 8D She tries her best to have NO one in her live, ever. if she ever starts to think that she likes their company or wants to see them again, she will immediately dip. There's only a few people she keeps around and she makes sure to keep them at arms length and that they serve a specific purpose.

Neutral... Well she's very devoted to her job. Questionable. Uhh. I don't really know what is 'neutral', everything I can think of can be sorted into good or bad lol. Or it sounds good on paper but it's actually very bad... for example...

😥 SAD BUT RELIEVED FACE — is your oc prone to getting stressed out, or is it easy for them to keep their cool?

Saturn is SOOO good at keeping her cool, it's lowkey scary! She never hesitates and nothing scares her, not even a gun to her head. She always just has this placid smile on her face that lowkey looks like she's mocking you for even trying. A building could explode with her in it and her heart rate wouldn't budge.

The only time she starts getting bothered is when feelings happen. She gets stressed really bad about attachment and love (platonic or otherwise)

Ok ok, let's get back on track. Work was draining these past weeks, but I'm on vacation now, so time to catch up! June was the month of the library books. I put a bunch on hold in April and May and they all came in at the same time. And after up to 10 weeks of waiting I was not about to push a single one back further, so I had to work a bit there. 8D Also, according to my list I've read 51 books in the first 6 months of the year. I seem to remember wanting to read less this year? Yeah. Not going well.

Gwen & Art are Not in Love (Lex Croucher): I read it in the very first days of June, which was basically an eternity ago, so my memory is a bit wonky. I do remember I had lots of fun! It was funny and sweet with a solid story and serious times when needed, nice characters, good adventure. The female lead did not get on my nerves! There was a cat! And a girl with a (legendary) sword! I think, though, it's a bit unfair that both boys ended up with permanent bodily harm while the girls got away scratchfree … Go read it!!

Thief in the Night (KJ Charles): I didn't know anything about this other than the summary when I put it on my waitlist in the library. After 10 weeks it finally came in and my first thought was "Is it broken?!" because it's only about 100 pages! It is a full story, mind you, I was just so suprised by it (and because I waited for so long!). It's a companion story to The Gentle Art of Fortune Hunting, featuring the brother of the protagonists of that one. It's pretty cute. Super short, but just the right length for a simple story. We can have a simple story once in a while. I had a good time reading this.

The Gentle Art of Fortune Hunting (KJ Charles): I borrowed this right after Thief in the Night. This is a full-length novel, so it has a lot more time to dive into characters and intricacies. It's nice. Like not groundbreaking, but very enjoyable. There's this thing about (pseudo-historic) British aristocracy that just calls for mocking them. I liked a lot how the climax and ending played out!

Flowerheart (Catherine Bakewell): Now this was another difficult book for me. I thought with time I'd get a little more chill with YA fantasy heroines. Seems I'm not there yet. The heroine here has these whiny self-pitying phases that really annoyed me. She's like "Oh maybe he never liked me in the first place" just because the guy didn't want her help at one thing. But: 1) He was her very close childhood friend, that was not a lie. 2) She has like one day of training in and can't control her magic, so her help would be … probably no help at all. And 3) when he told her before that he needs her on the weekends she said no, she can't … So why is she getting upset?! I hate characters like this. /D But thankfully, this is only half of the time, the other half she's pretty ok (the guy as well) and I actually found myself liking the book. The romance is acceptable and it does have some nice imagery going on with all the flower magic and stuff.

Sounds Fake But Okay (Sarah Costello & Kayla Kaszyca): My one non-fiction book of the year. :D It's about seeing the world from the perspectives of a_spec people. Like taking apart all that amatonormativity and all these ideas about romance and family and stuff that most of our world sees as right and normal. So it's not just a "let me tell you what aromanticism and asexuality are"-book but dives a bit deeper. I found it insightful. I think, both a_spec and allo people can take something away from reading this. Challenging our social constructs in thought at least can't hurt after all. Regarding the ebook library edition I read I didn't quite like the layout as the incorporated community quotes where not well marked and I stumbled over them a few times before realising it's another quote. That's probably no issue in the paper version though. I also struggled to tell the authors Sarah and Kayla apart. They introduce themselves and their stories in the beginning but I immediately jumbled them up ...

Captive Prince Trilogy (C.S. Pacat): I borrowed the English edition from the library … and didn't want to return it! Which is stupid because I own the German version in paper. But that kinda sums up how I feel about these books. Captive Prince was not the very first gay fantasy book I read almost two years ago but the first one I liked. (The actual first was Rowan & Ash by Christian Händel which had a terribly selfish love interest and shied away from all the important conflict. (And yeah, long before that I did read The Raven Cycle but I picked that one up for the Ley lines and the no-kiss-promise. The gay was just a pleasant surprise, so I don't count it.)) Which is funny, because especially the beginning is so filthy! I remember being quite put off by this the first time around, but apparently it was intriguing enough to continue reading. I like the incredible slow-burn of Damen's and Laurent's relationship. The slow building of trust in a surrounding where trust is so rare. How shit happens between them and they have to sort it out on page before progressing. How you only catch glimpes of Laurent's true self for a long time. I like it when authors feel smart through their writing and writing Laurent's and the Regent's intrigues and all the different settings with war strategies etc. sure does feel smart to me. I like the slow-burn in stories as well when things start at some point and only get important much later and all weaves together beautifully. It's so rewarding. Look, where we started - look, how far we've come! Hah. u3u

Riley Weaver Needs a Date for the Gaybutante Society (Jason June): For the end of the month I went for something light and funny. Of all the authors I read last year F.T. Lukens and Jason June stuck with me the most. Lukens for the cozy charming fantasy and June for the slightly silly noisy onea. Riley Weaver is no exception to that. It does have a serious undertone and message, though, but due to the framework of the story it manages to never feel dull or preachy.

I also tried to read Dragonfall by L.R. Lam, but gave up after just 50 pages. I can't even say if it's good or bad, because I don't know. I couldn't stand the viewpoints. Like, there's three people. The first one is a 1st person narrator, who refers to the second person as You, but in the narration, not dialogue! That put me off so much. It was so … icky! The second person narrates 1st person as well. If there's another "you" I don't know because I didn't make it to the point where they meet for real. And then the third person comes along and … it's 3rd person?! And I screamed! God, I hate that. I mean, it can work and I have read books that I like with inconsistent viewpoints but there was nothing here for which I was willing to endure. To be fair, I don't like dragons in the first place, so maybe we never were a good match from the start. :'D
