HOW DO U WRITE SO WELL I NEED TIPS PLSSSSS

RP with some really good writers for 10 years. Absorb their skills. Also there's nothing like the immediate feedback you get with RP, as your goal becomes 'how can I inflict the most pain on my partner in three paragraphs'.

Read and watch stories that make you scream, then scream about them to your friends. Focus on WHY this specific phrasing hurt so good, why did THIS event have so much impact as a callback to something earlier in the story. There is no such thing as over-analysis, pick apart the things you like with the assumption that everything is intentional.

Write things that make you kick your feet and giggle evilly and send screencaps to Discord at 3am like "look! look at this paragraph I just wrote!". Reread your story like it was written by a stranger, and let yourself enjoy it. Talk about the parts you really liked coming up with.

Writing is a solo art, but it's also a social one. You have to learn what moves others AND yourself. Keep your old cringe writing around-- yes, it's cringe, but knowing it's cringe is how you keep track of how much you've improved.

Mostly be CONFIDENT in your writing. Be PROUD of it. Don't let yourself get bogged down thinking "oh are people going to like this? is this good enough?". If YOU like it, then there is guaranteed to be one person that likes your work. Something does not have to be 'good' to be liked.

MODERN PRUAUS OKAY, while I gather myself to go get a pizza and cure my hangover,

They don't live together. They do long stays with each other on and off. They are in a nice place where they aren't arguing seriously, they are trying to be considerate and kind- they have come such a long way. I think they made it official in the 2000s but have been seeing each other since the 50s, being gentle about it. They are too old for problems. Gilbert has always been desperately in love, and gave up for a long time on Roderich and finally when he really gave gave and decided to just try and move on Roderich is like hey :) which blows Gilbert's mind.

When they spend time together, they like to go on walks, they love going out to eat, Roderich days Gilbert to the theatre which Gilbert also enjoys. Museums. They probably travel around- vacations in Greece and Croatia, drinking wine and whatever. It is relaxed.

However just because they're slow and chill doesn't mean they both aren't fucking insane. Roderich and Gilbert have been kicked out of many restaurants, Gilbert enjoys causing ruckuses still. The whole matter of them making it official Outraged basically everyone they know- Ludwig still isn't very happy with this ("after ALL THAT? AFTER HOW MANY WARS? AFTER WHAT YOU pUT ME THROUGH? AND NOW-"), many people were concerned for Roderich because Gilbert is known to be a fucking maniac. It was a lot of drama. But they held firm and told everyone to fuck off- Gilbert especially.

Sometimes the past haunts them, but both Roderich and Gilbert have made a choice to try their best to look beyond the past- really, they couldn't work without that. Gilbert is certain that this time they will make it work! And Roderich is too. They compliment each other well. They nap a lot. They're so old!

Do you like real animals that are kinda monster like? Dinos? Kimono dragons? Monster beasts of the world around us that we all cherish that have a strength unmatched by the feeble ones we can people with our foolish words?

this is the second time I’ve seen/heard someone say “Kimono dragon” instead of Komodo Dragon in 3 days. Hello again poetry anon!

I’d say I’m usually a fan of more “monstrous” animals[if u can call them that]. Komodo dragons[along with most big lizards] are very cool, although they do scare me quite a bit. I also love pretty much every predatory bird, especially Hawks+Eagles. Similarly, Theropod dinosaurs are always fun and I’ve loved seeing all the raptors get more accurate over the years. Also a big fan of sharks! All sharks are wonderful marvels of evolution and they get a 10/10 from me. [except Zigra who is an alien shark, he gets a -3/10 because he sucks but I still love him] Other than those, I like snakes and cats, not sure if I’d consider them monstrous though.

If I could shape-shift I’d probably choose one of the above mentioned creatures. Human bodies are so weirdly shaped and we don’t even have any fun spikes. Truly weak and feeble creatures lol

Thoughts on Bill and Guy? (Needllero as I like to call it)

Oh yeah, there's a lot to dig into there.

It's certainly Bill's most fleshed out relationship. Not that that's saying much, but still. I think of it primarily from Bill's perspective because of course I do, but I'd like to go back and see how it fits into Guy's bigger picture as well.

What's intriguing to me - and what I'll talk about here today - is how they have two pretty distinct dynamics that don't seem to overlap.

On one hand, Bill serves as Guy's right hand man for his little schemes. This side appears in wraparounds, when they interact face to face - Moral Majority, Pledge Week, Staff Christmas Party. Then during the People's Global Golden Choice Awards, we get a twist - Bill isn't collaborating on this one, and in fact leads the dissent against it.

So, what happened there? I think Bill gives it away in how he describes Guy's motivations. He references Guy wanting "power" and "ratings", but nothing about money. I suspect that, at the end of the day, Bill's in it for the money, since that's the focus of the other schemes he’s involved with. I do find it interesting that Bill never tries to boost his own career through the schemes - maybe he does have a spine after all. Except for, y'know, all the swindling.

On the other hand, there's Guy as the tyrannical boss that's constantly suppressing Bill's freedom of speech and cancelling his shows. This is the side we see during Bill's shows - it's introduced right from the start on Mailbag, and is more implied than outright stated in Series 4, though that tension never fades away.

Bill always refers to a nebulous "they", "the station/SCTV", "management", "the powers that be", when he talks about the forces holding him down, but it's gotta just be Guy, right? Guy's seemingly the only one who ever makes decisions about programming like that. The unspecific language feels like an intentional decision on Bill’s part to separate Guy, his boss, from Guy, his partner in crime. Especially when, during Stand Up and Be Counted when Guy calls in to personally cancel the show, Bill says, not moments later, “They cancelled my show.” Maybe Bill’s just that committed to propriety, but I don’t think so.

How do we reconcile these two sides of Needllero? Well, that's where we get speculative. The way I've characterized it so far over at the Needleblog, even Bill's not quite sure where they stand. There's a lot of uncertainty and intimidation at play, although how much of that is Bill's own anxieties being left to sprawl out is left to the reader's interpretation.

Now, I don't ship it, personally, but I see the appeal. They're great for each other (make each other so silly). The dysfunction is definitely a big part of the charm. In a way, I do think Bill needs Guy - not only because he's just gotta be on TV, but also for the companionship of somebody, anybody, who can put up with him.

Also, Lola says "or even love" right as Bill turns to look at Guy, and that's just precious.

Is there a certain way you go about the characterizations of the different incarnations of Eclipse?

Their motivations!

So at his core, Eclipse is an angry, paranoid, spiteful, arrogant, lonely, possessive, socially-inept person who can't communicate to save his own life. No matter where in his life you're writing him from, these traits persist.

The differences come in what his goal is, and which of his core traits are being amplified because of it.

I've written the Original Eclipse the least, mostly because I actually got interested in the show following his death 8'D. This Eclipse is the most closed off of all of them, the least likely to change his mind, the angriest and most vindictive. He hasn't been betrayed yet, he hasn't really failed yet, so his arrogance is at an all time high.

On the flip side, after his defeat and expulsion from Sun's head, this is also the rawest point in Eclipse's life. There's a lot of good fics about scraping his broken ass out of the woods and patching him up, and for good reason. Strip his arrogance away with his loss, and he has nothing.

My favorite is the Backup Eclipse. Eclipse 2.0, my beloved! Still arrogant, still angry, but spite is his strongest trait. He was defeated and he knows it, and he's learned that he needs to be a bit smarter in manipulating those around him. By escalating the game to the next level when he amplified Moon's kill code (giving us the guy, Kill Code), Eclipse started a chain reaction that is STILL going on in current canon.

The Backup is my favorite because his characterization runs from one end of the spectrum to the other. He comes back as a bedraggled version of himself, forced to deal with basically being Bloodmoon's prisoner while also getting them to work for him. He manages to enact one victory after another, culminating in him actually gaining the star. He did it, he won!

And then he fucking crashes.

Possession and loneliness are his strongest traits in the second half of his arc, and he picks up depression as well. Spite has become bitterness. Eclipse was never supposed to win, and he knows it. The star was only ever a means to an end, a way to get Moon's attention. And when Moon resets himself... Eclipse doesn't know what to do. He attempts to respark that rivalry, but New Moon isn't interested.

With no goal to latch on to, Eclipse crumples under his own misery and lack of purpose. On his way to winning, he destroyed everything that made his life interesting.

And then he got space lasered.

And then finally Eclipse 3.0, the Recreated Eclipse. I don't make a distinction between who he was before Lunar blew up his body and after, though I know some folks do.

Eclipse 3.0 starts off with anger, of course, and a lot of confusion and desperation. For a good amount of time in there he was p much feral. This one is mired in self-pity, and lashes out because of it.

Because that's what makes this one really interesting. He's picking up from where the Backup left off-- he has no purpose. I think he sunk his claws into the goal of 'find my creator' just to HAVE a goal. He's also interacting regularly with other people for the first time in his life(s), even if he does spend a lot of time taunting Moon for stuff that neither of them were personally there for.

Two things, I think, really helped Eclipse start stabilizing. The first was, uh. Solar's death 8'D More specifically, it was Puppet giving him an impossible task to focus on, and Eclipse always needs a goal. The second was Earth started socializing him. Which I love-- hell, I wrote that myself back in Sunk Cost. Earth always had the advantage of not being personally victimized by Eclipse like her siblings were, which let her be more tolerant of him.

Eclipse in his current state is still arrogant and possessive, and his people skills still suck. He's 'better' as a kind of side effect to Puppet's request; bringing Solar back, doing this Super Important Thing That Even Moon Failed At? Was a major ego boost. Eclipse learned a very important lesson:

Doing good things gets you attention and praise.

Which is why I think he had such a rocky start with the new dimension Sun and Moon 8'D He was chasing the high of being the hero, at the cost of actually paying attention to what was going on. He knew how things were supposed to go, that made him The Smartest. He's a good guy for extremely selfish reasons XD

But he's also finally made it to where a lot of fanfic authors have gotten him. A little less lonely, a few wounds healed. He does have people he cares about, without any intent for manipulation involved.

So yeah. I guess in summary:

Original Eclipse (Upright): Vindictive, angry. Would bite your hand off rather than take it Original Eclipse (Reversed): Lost, bewildered. A feral animal, but one that can be tamed.

Backup Eclipse (Upright): Spiteful, serious. Lost the game once already, has no intention of losing again. Backup Eclipse (Reversed): Bitter, desolate. An Eclipse without a purpose, can be coaxed onto new paths. Still will probably bite you a few times first. Recreated Eclipse (Upright): Arrogant, possessive. The end goal of many a fanfic, actually able to get along as a functional member of society... mostly. Recreated Eclipse (Reversed): Feral, desperate. Clinging onto what fragments he has in a life he didn't ask for, and hating every second of it.

The "Fuck John Winchester" movement is so similar to the "W*ncesties, Die" movement to me. Not that they are all the same people (though there is a fat center of the venn diagram there), but because it's a bunch of people who latch onto a rhetoric that they wouldn't have unless they heard everyone else say it and decide to not form their own opinions. Gilbert..... has learnt table manners over the years. He is a "take your hat off at the table" and "be polite in company" sort of guy, very much an old school manners guy and will think you are fucked in the head if you use your phone at the table. However if there's more than one set of cutlery and in the presence of royalty, best just not invite him as his conversational manners are horrible imo. He is neutral about bad manners but will think you're disrespecting him personally if you do weird shit at his table haha, but he doesn't often have guests so it's not something he cares much about. He's just an old man!

21. part of canon you think is overhyped

the whole storyline about the students saving the villains is massively overhyped. it's just not well-written. i don't think there's any textual evidence that any of the students have anything more than a superficial or vague notion of why the villains chose their paths, these are virtually strangers whose hearts the students intend to save.

and while no, i don't think you need to know anyone deeply in order to reach out to them, and in fact you should help strangers! but to argue that somehow you can understand them enough to know what they want "deep down" is paternalistic bullshit.

also in this case "saving," also means stopping, also means sticking them in prison, so uh. how are you saving them, buddy. if you want to stop them and put them in prison then at least be honest about it, don't dress this shit up in the language of kindness. the hypocrisy and lack of time spent actually developing a bond between heroes and villains makes the whole "saving" plot feel hollow.

25. common fandom complaint that you're sick of hearing

i am the fandom complaining blog, imagine being tired of complaints...

ok but a couple years ago there was so much drama around caleb cook's translations for the manga and people often blamed him for things that may have been pushed by the publisher (as a standard for all translations they do, ex: translating yakitori as chicken skewer instead of just using 'yakitori') to more 'major' things that people argued were mistranslated or tonally too soft/too strong, among a myriad of other issues. (he only has as much information as we do, folks, translators don't have a direct line to the mangaka, so sometimes translators just have to make their own judgment call on a specific line.)

yes, sometimes the translations sound weird or janky, you might even be able to argue that some don't get the correct meaning across, but there was so much responsibility pushed onto caleb as though he was the one directing the overall progression of the manga. is it caleb cook or horikoshi's fault that the LOV don't openly declare their deep feelings towards each other?🤔
