if i had a nickel for everytime i guessed a significant plot twist about a character purely because i thought it would be funny/make narrative sense in the last month i’d have two nickels, which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice

caitlyn is sososo interesting this season because yes she’s the most open and vulnerable with vi, but even in their scenes together, you can see cait choosing her facial expressions. and even in the kiss scene it’s all focused on vi. we don’t see cait for the majority of it, and we don’t see her face when they kiss. when we DO see her face in that scene, it’s uncharacteristically lacking in emotion! it’s intense, and while you can tell this moment means something to her, she’s not being herself. she’s hiding. and she’s been doing that all season with everyone.

i think the subconscious reason cait kissed vi when she did was that she knew they were in conflict and wanted to kiss her before they fell out, instead of actually dealing with the problem. that moment just feels like resignation from her. (AND i think vi looked so confused at caitlyn’s affection because she couldn’t tell what was going through her head.)

I need to you guys to stay with me and imagine Adrien Agreste experimenting with what to wear after he quits modeling but being hopelessly lost on where to start so, after much consideration, he gets the brilliant idea to mimic his friends clothing aesthetics.

So naturally one week he’s wearing a backwards cap and baggy jeans in an attempt to mimic Nino who is ecstatic and another he’s wearing a lot of flannel which makes Alya roll her eyes and another him and Marinette are practically twins much to his delight until she gently tells him he only likes it because they are matching and he should probably keep looking until he finds something that is his own.

But instead he just keeps on mimicking classmate after classmate until he runs through them all and he starts talking to Kagami who’s figuring things out herself and doesn’t provide much to go off of and he settles on wearing suits until someone mistakes him for Felix.

So then he decides to move on from people and starts to look on Pinterest at Marinette’s suggestion and he copies the outfits down to a science but why does everything STILL feel not right? He decides it’s the website so he moves on and copies what he sees in magazines and in ads and it feels a little better but he also feels a little sick when he does it and why isn’t anything right and he’s twisting the ring on his finger so much it’s leaving a mark and hes pacing around the mansion and it has so many portraits and his dad is in all of them and why is he suddenly getting the feeling nothing he puts on will ever be right and why in the world does this stupid ring feel so heavy.

And so after a month of experimenting, he gets up in the morning one day and decides to try on the outfit he always used to wear and attempts to do his grown out hair the old way and looks in the mirror and stares at himself for a while. He slips on his sneakers and then the door rings and he heads downstairs to meet Marinette for school. As they’re walking he is still trying to decipher what he feels and he suddenly realizes that his dad would like this outfit a lot. He smiles to himself and tells Marinette and she smiles weakly and says she supposes he would and then avoids his eyes.

Adrien feels that familiar twist in his stomach that tells him something isn’t right, but when he tries to reflect on why that would be he’s only met with the same fuzzy memories of his father that he can’t quite sort out. He wonders if that’s where the unease comes from but then he shakes his head because those memories must be good because his father died a hero.

And so he wears the same outfit he always wore, ignoring the fact it feels a little too tight on him and that it makes his new ring feel heavier than ever.

when you're into the Big Ship™ in a Big Fandom™, you have the luxury of having an OTP - a real One True Pairing, where you can read about just them for ages, and you will never run out of fics, and everything is perfect and beautiful and nothing hurts

but when you go to a smaller fandom, you'd better pray to whatever god you worship that someone else in this room ships the same thing that you do, and that if they do, they're writing more than late-night crackfic, because you're on thin fucking ice!

and how small is your small fandom? is it less than 100 fics? maybe even...less than 20 fics?

welp, then it's time to make peace with that god and either open up a text document or learn how to ship everything, because it's swim or drown babey! and your ship is sinking fast

anyway all of this is to say that after hanging out in small fandoms and shipping less-common pairings for a while, going back into a Big Huge Fandom™ is wild because suddenly it's like...wait, why didn't I ship these people again? I don't remember. why was I only sticking to one ship in this fandom?? boring of me, honestly. these guys should make out.

I love how the best two currently airing anime have female main characters that are very different from your usual anime female characters, with distinct personalities and extremely competent and knowledgeable on their own fields. I also love how both anime make use of quieter moments to convey feelings and thoughts, and overall have a much more unhurried vibe while still maintaining a well paced story.

Kinda curious abt Earthspark’s problems now 👀

I mean other than the terrible characterization of Starscream ha.ha.

I mean like I don't have an itemized list, it's mostly vibes. And I'm only talking about season 1 since I haven't watched season 2 and honestly didn't know there was a 3 yet. Also purely the writing, there are visual and auditory issues, but just thinking as a writer. It's just stuff like the show feels almost sickly sweet at times. Like getting sugar poured down my throat with how they play the found family and adoption stuff. Also heard transgender and non-binary people complain a bit about Nightshade's portrayal at certain points, mainly the Philadelphia set of episodes where they vibe with another NB person. Which I can see the issues. I do think having the representation is great and super important. But some points feel almost textbook and like the characters are looking the viewer in the eyes and reading from a pamphlet on emotional health and accepting people. I get it, Kids' show, but still. I can imagine the way they explain some things can feel alienating to kids. I would have if I watched this as a younger kid. But that's mostly my experience and how I've tended to react when watching a show that delivers messaging in the way Earthspark does. I'm also just one who sees super sweetness and gets unnerved. Especially when we get more serious and nuanced moments in the show, like the conflict between Optimus and Megatron on the morality of locking up Decepticons purely for their past faction alliance. So swapping naturally makes me wary of the pure sweetness moments in some episodes. I know I'm not the target audience but still. Just thinking. Also Shockwave in the finale just sorta snapping into being another friendly Decepticon with no hard feelings. Like I enjoyed him being evil and I think he can be an evil asshole and get some sympathy for being mind controlled. But felt like the kids just forgot about that cause the writers ran out of time in the finale and needed an adult transformer to help, and Shockwave was available. Also one more minor gripe, which is super personal, but kinda wish Twitch kept the missing eye. Like that would have been an interesting thing to explore disability, injury, and living with painful change in your life. Good lessons for kids. But I can kinda understand deciding to repair Twitch's eye during the big heal blast. Overall, I think it was a good show that had some great messaging about not generalizing and accepting people's ability to change, with important lessons about emotional and mental health which we need in the modern day. I'm happy to see a kids' show tackle some intense topics like bigotry. And having a cast full of different people and representations of different people was great. Which just makes the issues in the cracks kinda shine through. Even if I am very happy this show exists for the next gen of Transformers kids. Then they threw out a bunch of the good stuff from season 1 during season 2 and beyond.
