It's Art Therapy Day at Sanctuc Clinic and Wang Yi's rolled up his sleeves at the clay modeling table, sticking together globs of the stuff for fun. He's never studied art before, but he thinks there's a science to it—like math, angles and curves and all that shit—so he figures he'd give it a go. Also, squishing clay just feels nice.

He holds up the sculpture he's made so far (is it a misshapen starfish? an ancient model of Venus??) for the guy's inspection.

So, last part ended with you and your first date with Price (well at least you hoped so) and this time, take a walk with me as to how it went with Ghost.

Let's make it clear though that he was one of the last people to "fully" accept you within the family under Nonna and Nonno's guidance.

Despite that, he was the fastest to be so down bad.

That he kind of commissioned from one of friends from the knitting group he was in (yes that is his hobby on the side, but he's not gonna let anyone be privy to that information besides the 3- now 4- people he trusts)

He, lowkey, is still shy of showing his own creations- hence, the commission

Of course he also tries hiding this fact from you, but seeing you hold it with so much love and care made him feel more confident and want to create more things with and for you

Not to say you were shocked, but you were…

Anyways, speechless, from how Ghost had just willingly asked you to come along with him.

“To…” you began hesitatingly, “where…exactly?”

You see him fidget, arms tucked into his hoodie- which you were also surprised by from how casual his fit was. From the jeans, flats, and the plain medical mask on his face- quite a contrast to the fancy suits he’d usually wear while on the job or when visiting the bakery, or whenever you see him really.

You see him mask move but no words come out so you ask if you could repeat it.

He didn’t reply, huffing before tugging you out the door.

“Woa-woah hey!”

Ghost, in all of his bulky self, managed to slip through the ajar door and pull you through it as well with ease.

“Ghost-!” You try and pull to stop him, “Ghost! Wait- I have to change!!”

Though he wouldn’t budge, forcing you down your apartment’s stairs and out the front, and straight in the shotgun of his car. Once you got situated in, he buckled you up, patted your thigh and closed the door.

You didn’t know if you quite missed something when you last talked to the guy.

Or… you finally the crossed the line and they were gonna get rid of you—!

No- no, don’t go there.

They’ve already proven as much that they would never ever do that to you. So, benefit of the doubt, maybe it was an emergency.

Well, it is an emergency-- for Simon, that is.

Simon is in a panic.

Why did he have to drag you outside your own room?!

You were going to hate him for sure…

But he’s a committed man, what happened- happened, and he’s going to stick with the schedule for today (to which he forgot to share with you in his anxiousness and just assumed you knew.)

He also thought that you didn't need to change? You were already dressed up as far as he knew (no you weren't by your standards), he was wearing his 'house clothes' himself, you know?

No, you didn't. You would have assumed that he was alike you in the sense that you had clothes distinct for staying at home and going out.

Too bad for you that this man can't tell the difference! ('cause all he's seen you in are your work clothes for the bakery and the type of clothes you wear now when he visits your apartment.)

Once he rounded the car, he shuts those thoughts out and enters the vehicle, hoping to start off fresh--

"g'mornin'."

He grunts out and you looked at him, quite confused at the timeline of events, but greeted him all the same.

"Good morning to you to, I guess?" You watch him hum and nod, switch the stick to drive, and just-- drive off from your apartment.

"So," you ask, "are you gonna tell me where we're going?"

He grunts again, and you think that's his only dialogue option until he talks a couple minutes later, at a moment when you least expect it when you were gazing at the passing buildings.

"To the park," you hear him mumbled, "didn't you read the itinerary?"

"the what?" your turned aghast, "run that by me again-- the itinerary?"

"Did you not get one?" Ghost looked at you for a moment, his face looking quite pale and similar to his moniker.

"Shite, didn't I send you a text last night?" He speaks a bit more quickly, which makes you in turn and panic yourself because you've never seen this man act like this.

So you check quickly, "just your usual good night cat meme message!"

Which makes him more frustrated, "are you serious? not a link to a document or anything?"

"Seriously!"

You then shoved your phone to his peripheral, but not in the way of his driving, but just enough that he can glance at it to check it himself.

Damn did he wanted to sock himself in the face so much right now.

"Oh," you could see his tense shoulders slump, "m' sorry, prolly' forgot to send it to ya' then."

Clearing the confusion took the whole car ride, from him worryingly planning everything to you reassuring that it was fine and you were even excited to go out with him!

Of course you wanted to get to know better this recluse of a man (for your safety but your curiosity needed to be satiated as well) and find out a way to repay him for taking care of you so far.

(As Soap sometimes drunkenly whispers to you how Ghost would go out of his way and be late to their meeting just because he sometimes passes by your apartment to get rid of some drunkards or teens that's hoping to sneak in to your apartment building to party or what not.)

So, you thought of this as the perfect opportunity to do just that!

Once you arrived at the park hand-in-hand, you quickly pulled him towards the pond where some of colorful ducks where at. You always would coo at them whenever you pass by the area and the ducks seemed to squack back in response! Some even swam towards the shoreline, albeit slowly, still wary of your presence.

Ghost, oh dear his poor heart.

From the way you intertwined his clammy hand in yours and just pulled him without much effort and then now to you, acting so cutely with the ducks.

He swear he could burst at any moment.

But then he sees you turn to him, waving him over with a bright smile, the light bouncing off your hair, your eyes reflecting the clear blue waters-- he swore to himself that he never speed-walked that fast in his life.

He kneels besides you, quite awkwardly because he didn't know what to do there really, and watched you pet the duck, cooing at with the duck honking happily on your lap.

Your giggles, they were so light and uplifting, it just felt like cotton in his ears, bouncing in his brain as if they were echoes.

"Simon?"

Your voice snaps him out of his stupor and he looks at you, one eyebrow raised with a hum.

"Would you," you offer your hand to him, "like to pet... Quaker flakes?"

He chuckles, "why the hell is it named 'quaker flakes?'" Despite his quip, he offers his hand to you anyways, with you grabbing it and gently laying it on the duck's back.

"Well, it's yellow and looks crunchy!"

He raises his brows in amusement and he couldn't help the smirk that formed on his lips.

"Crunchy?" He asks, "Already hungry?"

He sees your cheeks blossom but immediately misses it when you turn away in a huff.

"Am not!"

"Really now?" He continues to tease, now sitting more comfortably as he got closer to you.

"Yes," you curtly replied, "even though you snatched me away as I was about to eat my breakfast."

This time Ghost pouts at this, throwing an arm around your shoulder so he could use his outstretched hand to swivel your head back to him and he could see your eyes widen by a cinch at how smooth it was.

"Why don't I..." he moves in closer to your ear, "...treat you then?"

His own eyes sparkle at your reaction, squirming and tense- usually he'd take delight in this reactions from the people he tortured but from you... jeez, something was stirring at pit of his stomach.

"For free?"

Yet that look didn't last long with your cheeky grin on your pink chapped lips, and he swore beneath his breath, eyes rolling at how 'you' the response was.

"Yes," he grins, "just this time."

You pout- stop tempting him- and ask, "just a one-time offer?"

He was just inches away from you, one shove from either of you and it would close the distance.

He was hoping, praying, that the would be strong enough to do it because he sure as hell wasn't.

"Just," he bops your nose, "this once." Then pulls away, with him standing up and dusting his legs- hoping you'd miss how dilated his eyes were or how his cheeks and ears felt insanely hot at the moment.

You giggle to yourself, scrambling after him as you both left the pond and duck who honked for you as you left.

Now happy and filled, eating by the bench and the food stand, Ghost decides to hand you a box.

"What's-" you swallow your food quickly, "this for?"

You scrambled to get a napkin, surprised that Ghost- himself- was giving you something out of nowhere.

"A present," he grumbles, "the napkins are here."

With a quick, "thanks," you wiped your hands clean and looked at the box more closely. The wrap was a soft pastel blue with a yellow foil ribbon on top, it just being the size of Simon's palm.

You gazed back at him and you saw the expectance in his eyes so you inhaled and slowly unraveled the wrapper.

Carefully peeling it apart until you opened it, gasping at how cute the crocheted coaster was. It had a flower pattern as the base, colored blue as if it was the water you'd seen earlier, a tiny duck sat at the edge with two small mint green plants besides it, and some tiny flowers around its base.

"I got it made," Ghost explains voice tight, "do...you like it?"

His voice gradually became softer and you had to turn to him, you had to face him when you said--

"I love it, Simon."

Ghost- no, Simon... became a very happy man.

Even more so with your promises to keep it safe, to use it at home when you study, and to take care of it with so much careful consideration because it came from him.

Yeah, you could say that he's definitely downbad now.

This just came to my mind while I was studying for my psychology exam - but what do you think THG would be like if they were dating a reader who is a theatre performer? Like them picking the reader up from rehearsals that ran overtime, watching their performances and listening to them talk about their crazy (and sometimes kinda weird) rehearsal memories?

I hope this makes sense because I am not too great with explaining things

coryo is supportive, mostly because he likes the idea of dating someone who could be famous one day. he brags about your talents to people at school/work, and comes to every show, sits in the front row, and brings you roses. he admires your dedication, even when it means staying late to run scenes or crazy rehearsal stories.

finnick loves to watch you perform. he's been caught trying to sneak into your rehearsals before, and given you a sheepish grin as he's escorted out of the theater. he's just so captivated by you. as someone who has spent a lot of his life performing against his will, he loves to watch you flourish doing something you love. he loves hearing about cast drama, like straight up will make popcorn to listen to the gossip.

gale isn't super into theater but will be supportive! he likes that you have a hobby you're so passionate about, even if he doesn't understand. he tries to make every show when he isn't busy with work, and has terrible theater ettiquette the first time and keeps cheering every time you're on stage, so you have to explain that he can't do that, lol. he also picks you up from rehearsals because he won't let you walk home late at night, ever.

haymitch isn't very into the arts, in general - he's just never had an urge to consume it or have a hobby of his own. but seeing you feel so passionate about it and have so much fun opens him up to the idea a lot, and i can see him definitely going to your shows and finding the beauty in live theater.

johanna would be a stage crew girly, so i think she would participate in your theatre stuff (if it was local/small, i don't think she would pursue it as a career) and she does the lights or sound. definitely ignores directions so she can put the spotlight on you even when you aren't talking in a scene.

katniss is very supportive, but i don't see her being into theatre at all - she'll go to your shows but doesn't really vibe with it, so she's there to support you but wouldn't go if you weren't involved. if you are in a musical production, though, she will get the songs stuck in her head and whistle/sing them around the house.

job interview advice pls!

Research the company before hand via their website. Try to mirror the language they use publicly. If they have a section about company culture, talk up company culture. If they have their mission statement on their website, try to appear to align with their values. You don't want this to feel too rehearsed or fake, so don't practice too much and don't try to memorize things off their website. Just read it up and get a sense of their vibe and the words they like to use, and keep it in the back of your mind. If it flows with the conversation, you could casually mention you saw something on the website you had a question about, thus proving you did your research (which is good!)

Have questions at the ready, and don't have zero questions. In fact have a lot of questions. Have questions about the job and company (and benefits!!!!!), but also have questions about career growth and the next step process. I always ask "how many other candidates are you considering?" because this will give you a sense of where you stand. For example, they might tell you "we have several more we're interviewing this week" or they might say "we've interviewed about five and will be discussing our decision tomorrow." Or they might be so vague you can assume they're not going to consider you past this point. Other great questions are "What are the next steps" and "How soon will you be making the decision" so that you aren't walking out unsure of when, how, or if you'll hear from them again. Be your own best advocate. Another thing to ask is questions about the company from the interviewer's perspective - "How long have you worked here? What's your career path looked like?" People love talking about themselves and this also demonstrates you're looking to fit into the whole infrastructure, not just trying to land a job.

Try to treat it like a conversation. It can be intimidating if you're just starting out, but if you try to come off as a pleasing yes man so excited to answer the questions they come up with, that's not going to be very memorable. Also if while answering a question, you volley back a question at them, you have now done a little exchange of power where you are now in control of the conversation a bit, because they will answer and then you get to say the next thing. Once they're talking about something, instead of being in the position where you have to come up with interesting things to talk about on the fly and hope they're relevant, they might remind you of something worthwhile to talk about. Is it more comfortable being asked "What sort of difficult choices have you had to make" or having a conversation with a person who might say "I remember when I was first starting out such and such thing happened" which might genuinely remind you of a relatable experience you had totally forgotten about. See the interviewer as a resource of knowledge, not just gatekeeper to what you want.

You have to seem like a fun and nice person, and you should be honest. "I'm a little nervous, I'm really excited about this opportunity" is not cringy, it's relatable and an ice breaker, and you've turned your negative "I'm nervous" into a positive "I'm eager." Things like "I'm looking for something that has flexible hours" might cost you an offer at a job you'd be miserable at, which can be frustrating at first but good in the long run. You obviously want to be selectively honest and present things in a professional way, but people don't want to work with wet blankets and ego maniacs. Cracking a joke, laughing, talking up hobbies, these are good things. Finding some common ground with the interviewer is fun too, because sometimes you knock them off track and you guys are just shooting the shit, and then they recommend you because they just remember liking you.

Treat the interview like a reasonable and good process, even if you hate it. Yeah, you're on the back foot. Yeah, it can feel inane sometimes. If you go into an interview with a sour attitude about how it should work differently, it doesn't matter how good of an actor you are, it'll come across. You won't be prepared to treat it like it's worth the time for both of you. The interviewer is there to find someone capable, worth the effort, with some potential, so treat it like talking to you is worth it when they probably have 100 other things they need to get back to. You're there to show you can do the job, you're fun to work with, and you want to fit into the company culture and infrastructure, so treat it like you're marketing yourself. You have to sell yourself not as the best person for the job, but the best person for the company, and you're happy to talk about it for the sake of the interviewer giving you a portion of their day!

Its mainly divided into a bunch of cults;

- The Slenderman Cult: Toby, Tim, and Brian, (as well as Kate but shes not very active right now) are in this cult. Toby is currently in Russia and has been caught by Tim and Brian and is now being taught a lesson by them to not disobey slendies orders. Toby doesnt like to follow rules because he finds them boring, thats why he often goes rogue. Tim has split personalities, his main (real) personality is Tim Wright, and his second is Masky. Masky is a cult fanatic, he worships Slenderman and is very loyal to him, he’d beat someone up for saying anything negative about him. Hoodie is more of a middle ground type of guy, he only follows orders because of the benefits he gets in the end, such as being able to explore his hobbies (which is mainly guns and hiking), as well as not get killed lol. Kate is rlly just a merchandiser for the cult, she supplies her own faction in America, but has recently gone missing. The boys are currently in Russia, and are gonna return in a month.

As for the creepypasta’s like EJ, Jeff and others of the sort, they fall under the “miscellaneous” category. Sure, EJ is in a cult of his own, but he is the only guy in it. He’s 34, but died at 23 and he still looks the same age as he did back then — implying that he is immortal. Jeff is currently 22, he’s very young and has been on the run from authorise since he was 17. He recently got out of his psychosis episode, and is being hunted down by Liu. Jeff assumes Liu just wants to kill him, so he runs away the closer he gets… when really Liu just wants his brother to get help before he falls into another psychotic episode.

Liu isn’t a creepypasta, he’s just a normal human that’s been privately investigating his brother for 4 years in hopes of one day catching him and bringing him back home.

Helen, Jane, Clocky and Seedeater are a part of Zalgo’s cult. Zalgo is basically SCP-001 (The Scarlet King) but, like more edgy. Zalgo is currently in a deep slumber, and is prophesied to wake on Judgement Day. They are sworn enemies of SlenderMan’s cult, because while Slenderman is a physical embodiment of hatred and human carnal desire, he is also selfish in the way that he consumes all souls and flesh for himself. Zalgo, does it for a bigger cause, but that is not yet revealed why. Chernobog is somewhat the same, but since his cult is very small, he is undetected.

Laughing Jack, Candy Pop and his sister, and Jason the Toymaker, are all from a different world; the Clown world, where they are born and sent to earth as “angels”, and return if their mission succeeds. However, these guys had failed their mission, and gone rogue. For that reason, they are permanently banished from their home. Clowns from this world are able to make their own pocket dimensions and can’t die in the human realm.

The Rake, he’s just a creature that no one knows the origin of, nor do they know its purpose. He haunts Toby, and has often teared Toby to shreds for no reason, that is why Toby fears him so much. The Rake is a creature that all cults remain wary of… except for EJ. For some reason, the Rake isnt hostile with EJ. There’s no reason why, or at least, its not known why.

She literally would not leave you alone and since you weren't necessarily shy (and lowkey wanted her to leave) you joined the hotel. Plus a free room wasn't all that bad. Not to mention you just joined hell

Honestly you probably hated her at first since you don't like relying on others a lot but she kept on trying to tell you that its alright and that she was there if you needed anything

With you being prideful and her needing some of that confidence in some areas I feel like you two would really balance each other out

Despite you not having overly strong emotions its fine! Cause she's got enough for the both of you.

Since you don't have strong emotions and tend to brush off the severity of a situation she'll step in and probably tell you whats what. Making a huge speech about everything and why it matters

You probably don't see the big deal with exterminations because of this and she'll try and convince you

You try and understand it for her but it gets confusing at times. She'll likely read to you the book she keeps in her room (the one she was reading in the first episode)

She's really passionate about things and sometimes you need to calm her down and bring her back to reality and she appreciates it when you do

You most likely admire her ambition and will to get it done despite it most likely never happening as of currently (it does but we'll get to that)

You try to help her out from time to time but overall let her deal with it. Although sometimes she'll over stress and you'll need to go ahead and calm her down and remind her not to lose her head over it

Honestly despite what others think I believe Charlie has a competitive side to her when it comes to things that she believes in

So when she was told that her idea wouldn't work it was like a competition and in order to gain more or your help phrased it like one

"I wanna show those demons that my dreams will come true!"

She loves it when you get mischievous and sometimes will also try to be so. Although you might have to help her with it as she's kinda bad at it

While Charlie isn't big on drama I'd imagine she'd still love to hear about it just so that she can try to resolve it. Meanwhile you might end up trying to stir some of it up and she'd scold you for it. Not harshly, but still scold.

You both don't shy away from conflict and this is why I think you'd work so well together. When Heaven tells her that there's no proof she goes over and tells you what happened and since you both kinda hate the authority of Heaven you both challenge it

"We're gonna show those angels whats what!"

It was at this moment when she become really feisty in some term. You both began working harder and she loved the fact that you didn't shy down from heaven despite being a sinner

She really admired that part of you and tells you about it every single day

Charlie is a big cuddler. She'll probably snuggle up to you whenever she can. That and she always holds your hand wherever you go and will give you gifts. She is the princess of hell after all :)

If she sees that you've been staring at something that you might like for too long she'll get it for you. She most likely always pays for things like food and will always ask if you want to go and get something to eat with her

Also sometimes she'll just come home with chocolates for you or a gift for you

You mentioned how you didn't like blind obedience and being responsible for others and honestly I thought this was perfect. I feel like Charlie isn't one to follow orders directly, she was told by many people that her plan wasn't gonna work even by her dad and yet she still persevered

And while she does like to be responsible for others in some way by helping them you won't have to be so for her. She takes care of her own actions :)

As for your hobbies I'm actually kinda convinced that Charlie would love anime and would watch it with you all of the time

She would let you help her design the hotel and would love all of your ideas. She has a book just full of them in case she can use any of them :)

Also she probably has some sort of demonic botanical garden for you. She might not have much of a green thumb herself but she'd love to have you help her through it

I feel like Charlie would try and push herself out of her comfort zone every now and then. She would love to try any crazy activities with you and probably have a heart attack whilst doing so-

One time you were helping her set up decorations for the hotel and accidentally fell off a ladder. She felt horrible and helped to patch you up despite you protesting claiming that it was her fault you were even on the ladder in the first place

Once she found out you were into skin care she begged you to share your routine with her

"Your skin is amazing! Whats the secret?!!!"

Once she learned you used to play the saxophone she would go crazy constantly asking you about it and asking you if you still know how to play

Then she found out you used to do gymnastics!? She was absolutely floored begging you once again to show her something

She loves your ability to find humor in any situation. It brightens up her mood every time :)

Dosgred Disappoints: Character Bloat

One of the biggest downfalls of this manga is the sheer number of characters. The author loses sight of the main cast very quickly, to the point that it gets really confusing what’s going on in the story.

I’ve spoken about Chapter 1 already. In that chapter, we meet: Rou, Haruna, grandpa, Keiichi, and Koichi. This is, presumably, our main cast. It makes sense that they are all introduced in the first chapter.

As I said in my previous post, the story fumbled it’s introduction of the cast. By the end, we don’t know much about Rou and Haruna. We know even less about Keiichi and his brother, Koichi.

Chapter 2 gives more information. The brother’s dynamic is solid. They're on good terms, nothing much to see there. As for the twins, Haruna blogs about her brother which is lowkey kind of weird. She seems to have no hobbies outside of this – again, weird. Like she says ‘Rou’s going to a local middle school’ even though they are twins. Surely, they would both be going. So this blog is seemingly for the benefit of Rou's fans back home.

Everything going fine... until Page 22. Things start falling apart from here.

On this page, we are introduced to Rou’s middle school ice hockey team. Despite Rou and Keiichi both being walking distance from the same lake, they apparently don’t go to the same school. This isn’t crazy, it happens all the time, but it was a little confusing because it seems unlikely they live close to two middle schools considering this is supposed to be Hicksville.

(The author is inconsistent with the size of this town. For example, there isn’t any major shopping location nearby. It’s primary industry focuses on a single large factory. Yet we have evidence of multiple middle schools and apparently four skating rinks.)

The entire middle school team is introduced all at once – yikes – and here begins the character bloat. There are four main guys on this team. Their role in the story is basically to convince Rou to play a game of Ice Hockey. That wouldn’t be a big issue but for the fact that their story completely takes over the plot.

Considering that this is the first time Rou and Keiichi play agaisnt each other, you’d think that would be the priority. He’s the rival! Rou and Keiichi are the main characters and should be the focus. Instead, at the start of chapter 3, we meet even more characters. This time, some guys on Keiichi's team (but not Keiichi's friends).

Now, in chapter 3 we have a total of 11 "important" characters. I have to class these new guys as important because they get flashbacks. You heard me, these random kids get flashbacks but actually important characters like Rou and Keiichi don't.

It's a really strange choice. Yes, it explains why the match means something to these boys, but it feels like a waste of time for the overall story. Rou and Keiichi should be the most compelling characters right now! This kind of minor character exploration is something that should happen much later.

We get hints at Rou-Keiichi conflict in chapter 4. The members of Oino high’s team, including Keiichi’s brother, show up. Oino's coach watches the game. He’s got this unreadable expression. Considering how often we see him, and his involvement later, we probably have to call him relevant character #12.

Basically, he’s watching the game and he should be watching Keiichi BUT he's actually focused on Rou. Rou plays weird but he’s clearly got talent. This is potentially such a big deal for Keiichi and a means of solidifying their rivalry. If this coach expressed an interest in this random newbie over him, Keiichi could get all huffy about it. He might try to play better to get the Oino coach's attention.

That doesn't happen. The coach's commentary is unknown to the players themselves.

By chapter 8, we are introduced to yet more characters. This time it’s several guys on the Oino team. Plus, we get reintroduced to a figure skater who had been Rou’s rival before he quit. I didn't call this guy important before, but since he's here again and gets a speaking role, he gets upgraded. "Important" characters: 15.

Dogsred gives us no time to breathe as it mostly ignores Rou yet again to depict high school championship finals. Now, I do understand why we need to show this game.

Oino loses here. Suddenly, there’s a team even better than they are! And that’s crucial because this is going to be Rou’s team soon.

Rou makes the choice to go watch this game rather than the ice skating. This symbolises how invested he’s getting in the sport.

However, the choice to depict the entire game is where the story suffers. Hears an alternative way to present the same plot information but without losing sight of our main characters:

Haruna tells Rou about this ice skating tournament and he seems like he might go, missing out on watching the championship game.

POV switch to Keiichi, there’s a break in the game and he’s gone to get snacks with/for his friends (does Keiichi have friends? I assume so, he’s the captain of his middle-school team there’s so many characters it’s hard to keep track).

Suddenly! Rou shows up. He's here to see the game, after ditching his sister and the ice skating tournament.

The boys argue. This is a good chance to really establish why they hate each other.

Then, while they were distracted, the final part of the game starts. Oino is losing!

Keiichi ignores Rou in favour of cheering on his brother. The game ends in a loss.

Keiichi gets huffy at his brother. “I can’t believe you lost! It’ll win us the championship next year!”

Basically, we focus the story on the character interactions because the two main characters aren’t on the ice. We don’t know the people playing (outside of Koichi who is by-and-large just Keiichi’s older brother at this point).

Regardless, this choice can be forgivable. Chapter 12 however… cannot.

In chapter 12, the author decides to completely ditch the main plot to focus on the rival high school, Sameoh. We meet several members of the team. That's twenty characters with names, personalities, and the makings of a plot. Twenty!!!

Then for all of chapter 13, we focus on these guys as their hometown get hit by a tsunami. This is a big setback for them – and completely derails any tension that was set up by them ending that 19-year streak the main team, Oino, had going. LIKE WHAT. I’m so serious right now, that undercuts all the tension.

It is only now, in chapter 14, that we finally arrive at Oino high school and Rou signs up for the actual team he will play for. That’s so late, guys. Arguably too late.

I’ll use an example of a hugely popular sports manga that started the characters in middle school too: Haikyuu!! Do you want to guess what chapter Hinata arrived at Karasuno High? Chapter 1. That manga covered Hinata's entire middle-school journey in less than a character. Now, Dogsred doesn't have to be that quick, but at minimum this moment should have come within the first five chapters.

This is what I mean by character bloat. The plot has been bogged down by all these unnecessary characters.

The good news is the next few chapters focus on the try-outs.  We meet no new characters and the reader has a chance to get their heads around what's actually happens. That ends in chapter 18, when we get the backstory of random two defence players on the team. Relevant character count #22.

That being said, after trawling through all of this, the story has several great moments. There’s a lot of potential here – I just think the manga needed some serious reworking before it got picked up for publication.

What do I mean by that? Typically with sports manga, the introduction has three main plot points to hit: why does the MC love this sport, some kind of set-back in middle school, and them joining up for their high school to achieve their goals. Now, Dogsred didn’t have to hit every one of these beats. Big Windup, for example, skips the first one.

In Big Windup, we start with the MC’s “set-back”. Mihashi was hated by his middle school team because he was a terrible pitcher. He signs up to his high-school team and is allowed to be the pitcher because they don’t have an alternative. Mihashi really wants to play baseball though, despite his shy demeanour. It's clear he loves baseball, even if we aren't given an exactly "why".

Within the first few pages, Big Windup jumps into it's MC joining his new team and fills in backstories later. Dogsred could have done the same. Start with a flashback of Rou’s decision to change sports and jump forward to him walking onto the field to join the ice hockey team. Everything else can be elaborated on later. To hint at the past, a couple characters could recognise him as “the Rabid Prince” but Rou brushes off their questions.

We could even have Keiichi recognise him from the lake and him go “but you’re a figure skater!” and have a brief flashback to their fight on the lake.

All in all, my point is that this manga meanders and runs breakneck at the same time. It tells us about all these random characters who don’t matter. Because of that, it got lost.

The good news is - Dogsred seems to have finally gotten back on the path! Now that Rou is in high school the plot is moving forward at a much more standard pace. I guess we’ll see where it goes from here.

kind of nonsensical rouxls thoughts under the cut

i think one thing that’s cool to think about is the idea that rouxls was originally “the tutorial guy”. we know that’s what the former puzzle makers started doing after they were fired and it would make sense for it to be a role that they fill if he took theirs. plus, one thing i find interesting is that the way they talk about tutorials makes it sound like they find making them demeaning.

and i think that matches well with rouxls’s incompetency and the way that he’s generally not taken seriously by anyone around him- hell, even with the couple of instances where he gets complimented, the ruddinn who swoons over him talks about puzzle making as a “totally hunky hobby”, when it’s notably not listed in rouxls’s hobbies at all! i don’t think rouxls likes puzzles, really. i sometimes see him portrayed as almost papyrus-like, being passionate about puzzles but not with the greatest execution, but i actually think it makes a lot more sense for him to not like them. rouxls does not think critically, plan ahead, or try thinking for himself. it makes much more sense for him, as the rules card, to prefer to follow and instruct a laid out set of rules than have to do the more challenging thinking that’s needed for making puzzles. he’s a follower and all that. i actually think there’s a good joke you could make there about the fact that he doesn’t think outside the box and the only puzzles he can think of to make are literal boxes.

because the implication i get from it is that he was not previously in a high ranking position and is unfamiliar with the expectations that come with it. 

i think as well that his search for an “evil rulere” and desperate sycophancy could be a result of this. he switches to whatever side is currently in power (“rouxls is always on the winning side” and all that) because sucking up is kind of the only way he can get by. he doesn’t care about how that affects other people, either- i was trying my hardest to think of what the hell is up with the control crown, and i think the main conclusion i have is that it (and a lot of what he says about king) are primarily indicators of how he doesn’t care how others are affected as long as he’s benefitting. but, yeah, i suppose you could almost see it as searching out a substitute purpose or something. 

another thing is that even after getting to that higher ranking position through being slimy and spineless, he’s still seen as a joke! no one likes him! even lancer is well aware of it

i think that idea of rouxls as a sad clown is really interesting, but i think i have to let it sit for a bit more to work out my exact thoughts. but one thing i really like to think about in relation to it is the fact that he doesn’t seem to stop grinning ever- i actually don’t think he can. obviously the merch isn’t canon, but the line sticker of him crying (that i use as my pfp!) still shows him grinning. considering there’s a noelle sticker that seemed to be an indicator of the weird route, i don’t want to completely count out the idea of any others being meaningful, yknow? i don’t always draw him with the grin just because it can get very hard to make him emote clearly with it, although i guess that’s the point, and i probably need to commit myself to it again >_>

rouxls destroys the instructions.

toriel tries her hardest to keep the children she’s taking care of safe, where rouxls rejects that role. trying to distance himself from that tutorial role, which in these games has a precedent of being connected to parenthood, as part of why he doesn’t outwardly express that he cares for lancer (which i do think he cares for lancer. i don’t think he’s a good parent/parental figure by any means, but things like him asking how lancer is and knowing what makes him feel better when he’s sick makes me definitely think he does care) is an idea that i find really interesting. 

i don’t know if any of this actually means anything or if i’m just looking too deep into it, but it’s stuff i like thinking about, i guess :P

oh, also, final thought that i’ve shared before, but i REALLY love rouxls’s connections to worms because i don’t think there’s a better comparison to make for him! he’s spineless and slimy and brainless. and it makes it pretty damn hypocritical for him of all people to be using it as an insult. i love this fucker i hope he dies

She frowned. She knew she didn't like his dad from when she and Singularity first met but man this guy really sounded like he sucked to live with.

She smirked at his question, "Cheating? Well, we are gods of mischief so I think it's fine. You already know my age, but as for my favorite color well... it's pink. Specifically pastel pinks, I've always liked how light and calming it was on the eyes, especially on the flowers in the palace. I was always so jealous that I wasn't born with a pinker shade of red for my banding. Calama always said I should be grateful to have a redder belly...but it's so common and dull I feel."

"Much like you, I also find myself living a more nocturnal life but I've managed to worm my sleep cycle to at least include the sunset and the sunrise because I like to watch them. While it's easier to work at night, most flowers don't look as beautiful as they do in the daytime.

"As for food. Hmm, I guess I'd say I prefer spicy and savory foods which is why one of my favorite treats is dried meats or things that use a lot of cinnamon. I'd chalk it up to my naughty nature, but if there is a flavor I cannot stand it's bitter!" She said making a disgusted face.

"But moving on to my siblings...hmmm. I guess Parisa and I are closer just because we are closer in age so we played a lot more with each other, especially because we liked girly things....but honestly I do deeply care for and favor my big brother. Dagon's been there for me in many ways that I don't think I'd even have the chance to repay given our different lifestyles. I worry a lot about him and when he's been doing to himself. He says he's fine but I can taste the lie in the air." She paused realizing she was rambling, "But getting off the negative thoughts, Dagon got a dry sense of humor that's never failed to get a chuckle out of me so that's always a good thing about him!"

"As for my daily activities well in terms of my official job I purify any reality rifts that occasionally occur and could corrupt the universe if left unattended, but those are few and far between and truly only occur if something as powerful as creation gods are sparring, which is honestly rarely a case for us. I always do at least 3 patrols of my territorial space in the void to make sure no out-of-world intruders are looking to invade and prevent any of our nimrods from accidentally leaving and becoming problems in another universe. Once that is all taken care of I like to work on flower gardens both in my territory of the void and within our palace on the material world. Gardening is a hobby that helps me feel close to my mother, we used to do it together before she had to leave. And when I'm not doing that I try and spend time with my friend Yvette, Diva, and Zeph-ah....but I'm dribbling on!" She said with a bid of an avoidant gesture to push her previous thought out of her mind.

When he asked about her favorite thing about herself she paused, now that was a hard question to answer. "Well...I think my favorite thing about myself is how hard-working I am. I've done a lot to work on myself and grow myself into someone who's far less angry and a lot more patient with others. I think me having the will to change is a good thing to have. Unless you wanted a physical feature of mine. If so I think it would be my moles, probably because they are often called beauty spots but I always felt they flattered my features with where they formed. Though, I'm a little...flip-floppy on how much I like my nose. Sometimes I feel it's too sharp and prominent, especially with how big it is, I think I'd like it to be a bit smaller kind of like Peri's."

"But enough about me!" She smiled, "I'm gonna take a page out of your book and ask you to answer those same questions you asked me about yourself, and let's add on If you would change your form to be any Pokemon in the world what would you turn into and why? Hello hello Author, could I request some headcanons for Light, L, & Misa with a really professional and hardworking Darling who doesn’t care for relationships at all? Darling is only focused on academics and their career, and while they do keep close friends who they regularly contact and meet with, they just aren’t interested in a romantic relationship.

Honestly, Darling is so uninterested in a relationship that they can’t even be manipulated into one because as soon as Darling senses/notices that someone has an interest in them that’s a little too friendly (and darling is extremely perceptive they notice that shit), Darling flat out rejects them and will drop them at a moments notice if said person tries to change their mind or mess with Darling’s friends

Oh I love this! The aspect of a darling that can and will evade the yandere's approaches is incredibly interesting and fun. The best thing about it is how creative they have to get to rope their darling in, and you might notice that both L and Misa work with getting to you through your career, which is important to darling, though it is in different ways. On the other hand I had fun with making Light suffer a bit.

Your professional and hardworking attitude might just as well be the reason he fell for you. Light admires your efficiency and sharp mind, all the while still believing himself to be one step ahead of you. That is why, while he is very much aware of your lacking interest in romance, he still believes he can court you.

The first step is to become a part of your friend group and since his acting is extremely convincing not even you might catch his intentions, at first. This guy is aware of your perceptiveness and while it is an obstacle in his way, he isn’t above using that for his own benefit. Normally, he would get into any hobbies, likes and simple pastimes of yours, but you might just catch him slip up with that, and therefore his research gets so much more intense. He will actively only get into things that seem to fit him, making his lies of liking the same things an actual truth to convince you of his sincerity. 

Another aspect is that he spends just as much time on befriending you as he does with your close group of friends, as to not make you suspect anything. All interactions are carefully planned of course, research and a bit of Ryuk giving him information from stalking them enough to get him on a friendly basis with your group at least.

When he can finally count himself as your friend he’ll be prideful and start working on getting you to like him. The process is exceedingly slow and frustrating, all of his subtle work and manipulation seeming to do nothing. His hope will grow when you ask to speak to him, alone. Even if you haven’t shown any interest in him yet, maybe you’re just really good at hiding it? He’ll try to silence that little feeling himself, but he can’t really help it, being almost giddy as he meets up with you, a grin already building up.

It’s as if you had dozed him with cold, freezing water as you bluntly reject him, not even giving him a chance to speak as you explain that you have zero interest in him and that while you still want to be friends, you would not hesitate to drop him if he can’t get a hold of himself. Light has never felt so small as you don’t even scold him but only clear up the situation and suddenly he is hyper aware that while your meeting place gives you privacy, it is also too much in the open for him to try any shit. You really planned this rejection through, he realizes before he apologizes for making you uncomfortable and promising to stop whilst his mind is reeling with what to do now, contradicting his words in every way.

Once he is home alone he will rage on for a bit, frustration and anger replacing his cold calculations while Ryuk makes fun of him in the backround, fueling Light in his fury. He’ll take a few calming breaths, reminiscing about how while he fell for your professionality and brilliance it is now the very thing in the way of him getting to you.

Light will play the role of a friend that feels a bit awkward and will distance himself a bit, giving him freedom to not act as if he got over his emotions, but he is already planning his next steps. It might be too soon to threaten you into being his already, but once his plan as Kira succeeds and he has the world at his feet, he will get you. No matter how high your reputation, how much you refuse, it is all for naught in the face of a god. This is the last time you reject him, he will make sure of it, an eerie grin plastered on his face as the Shinigami behind him goes on to focusing on eating the apples he got for stalking you.

L is very much aware of your dislike of relationships, and at first, he’s fine with that. You probably work with him and therefore he already knows everything some good research about you can give him. It’s nothing special, just to make sure you are qualified for the job.

He likes working with you, you are quick and efficient, doing your work in appropriate time, which is already extremely short, and you always put effort into learning more and improving yourself. Responsibility, confidence and hard work make you a pleasant colleague and therefore he will request to work with you when possible, resulting in the two of you peering over evidence and paperwork for hours on end. 

The process of becoming friends will be slow, but it will happen, friendly conversations and jokes making work a lot easier. His sense of humor has its charm, you must admit and you dub him a “work friend”, a title he holds, seeing as the two of you either often work alone or with different people each time, all alone. You hesitate to become closer though, platonically of course, because of the sole nature of your friendship being built around your jobs. Following that, you also do not introduce him to your group of friends, keeping the relationship the same, no changes.

For a long time that is fine though, until you spot the telling signs of a developing crush in L. First you second guess your observations, L is a professional and and highly esteemed, if a bit eccentric, detective. Besides sweets and work there isn’t much you’ve seen him being passionate about, in his own way, and him liking you almost seems surreal. Still, as time goes on his feelings grow and you will have the realization that he is falling for you at about the same time that he does. And of course L will notice that you know, too. 

Before you can reject him, he will talk to you first, confessing but promising that it will not get in the way with your tasks and suggesting that the two of you don’t work together for a few months. You will agree, relieved that he is acting so mature. L is fully intend on keeping his promise, only that despite your lack of interactions now, his feelings still grow. He will become restless, waiting for the time to pass before he can invite you to work together again, preparing himself to act as if he got over his love.

When the time finally passes and the two of you are back to normal, you can’t help but observe that while your colleague is trying hard to suppress them, there is still affection lingering in his voice whenever he talks to you, no matter how monotone it might sound. Since there isn’t much you can do about that and you trust L to keep his promise, you go about your day. What else can you do, he is well aware of your opinions and it’s clear that he is doing his best. You are unaware of the guy’s growing frustration as you unconsciously distance yourself from him, the slight feeling of being uncomfortable around him easily picked up by the detective that has to pretend to not care.

L has to applaud your perceptiveness, the whole day you had been more restless than ever as you were vaguely aware that something was off, despite his attempts to let everything seem normal. At the end you asked to leave early and you couldn’t see his eyes following you as you bid him goodbye, observing as you did your best to compose yourself. You feel comforted by the sight of the door to the outside, the whole building causing anxiety as you grab the handle and push. And you push. Then you pull. And then push again. 

A horrible feeling sinks into your gut as you look around you, hoping for this to be some kind of joke. L stands a few feet behind you, having silently followed you and you nervously ask him for the key, managing to keep your voice steady. A cold shudder goes down your back as he simply shakes his head, the realization of being trapped in a highly secret building with no way out dawning on you.

The two of you are an odd pair to watch. While you aren’t complete opposites, you aren’t alike either. Still, the two of you somehow became friends, at least in the eyes of others, mostly thanks to the very persistent Misa who managed to push herself into your life and into your heart, as she likes to say. 

Something about you intrigued her and before you knew it she clung onto your side, inviting you to events and talking to you on a regular basis. There isn’t any way to say no to her at first, all the places she forces you to go to are too much in the open, rejecting her only back lashing as her loyal fans would tear into you if you somehow hurt their favourite model. You get a headache only thinking about upsetting her in some way, such a situation having the capability to snowball into your dismissal at work if the posters of Misa you managed to catch in the backround of a video conference with your boss are any indication.

And so you do what you can do best, keeping things professional. Her advances are rejected in the most gentle way you can manage, reminding yourself that this is all for your career. It’s noticeable how she gets frustrated though, each refusal only making her more persistent, more forward. The most annoying thing is when she shows up while you hang out with your friends, arms wrapping around you as she greets everyone. Because of her you can only meet up at each others homes, your calm exterior cracking the more she provokes you.

Suddenly she is everywhere, not only intruding on your time with your friends, but also appearing on your doorstep unannounced and visiting you at work. Which, sadly, also confirms your suspicion that your superior is enamored with the model. You think you would have blown up in her face if you hadn’t managed to somewhat control the situation, offhandedly mentioning how you despise pushy people, waving it into the conversation in such a natural way that she doesn’t realize it at first, but to your relieve her pushyness decreases to tolerable limits, and so you continue with your subtle manipulations.

The longer this continues the better you are able to fit Misa into your plans and you are luckily able to almost return to the life you had when you hadn’t met her yet. Somehow you also managed to stop her from showing her affections so much and while it was still clear as day to you that she wished for a romantic relationship, you could keep you annoyance and urge to reject her to a minimum. God forbid she ever finds the notebook in which you complain about her, that thing and your friends being the only way you can let off steam.

It’s a good thing that you can’t see the shinigami persistently following you, or the way Misa lets her connections slowly trap you, her followers proofing their loyalty. She is aware of everything you do, love twisting her mind as she prepares for your shared future. Still, she wants to make you happy and so she will continue to allow you to play your games, she is doing the same after all. It really was a stroke of luck that she was able to get your boss promoted to their current position, and even more luck that they revealed themselves to be such an avid fan of her modeling.
