Its tragic that Regulus died but it's more tragic that he didn't have to. Kreacher could Apparate him from the cave. And if Regulus wanted to protect his family, his secret death achieves this how? He just disappears and Vold isn't looking for him or punishing deserter' family? Isn't worried that the boy whose house-elf he borrowed to test horcrux protection vanished? But the again, Vold wasn't shook when Kreacher showed up at Bella's in 5th book though elf supposedly died in that damn cave. XD

everything about regulus feels like an exercise in didn’t have to tbh

like yeah i know heroic teenager sacrificing himself blah blah but,,,,after reading a lot of fics that actually focus on worldbuilding/plot/side characters--im not entirely convinced that'sd what it was. like. if harry & co hadn't found the locket by sheer luck, then there's a v good chance things wouldnt have ended the way they had. reg ended up making things harder in his quest to vanquish the dark lord or wtv.

and like, im not even trying to bash here, but when i look at regulus the top character traits i see are arrogance, ambition, inflated sense of self worth, recklessness, and single mindedness (if thats valid). i mean,,,our boy could've easily asked sirius for help, he knew for a fact that his brother was on the other side, but he didnt. why? i cant see anything but ego there. he didnt even try. he was nowhere close to putting the cause above his own self.

but also,,,the fact that he actually went in the cave, presumably knowing he would die,,,that kinda indicates something much sadder for me. like, why else would he be so ok w the fact if he wasnt, say, unbearably suffocated and hopelessly over his head? if there wasnt latent suicidal ideation or, at the very least, a desire to get out, get away, not be here.

my heels have been raw for a WEEK now from the flats i wore to my interview last week. i had to go out, get a decent looking outfit JUST for it, had to put on some makeup -i don’t wear makeup-, had to buy a cheap ass pair of dress shoes from walmart to go with it, couldn’t just show up in my old tennis shoes… only to get there and for all the guys i was up against to be wearing jeans and their tennis shoes like they just came from the gym- and MOST of them got the job. every single woman in there was dressed nice, hair done, modest yet professional clothes, PRESENTABLE. and almost every guy was dressed like they just came from a bar. idk.

they tell you not to have blue hair or visible tattoos or piercings “BeCaUsE nO oNe WiLl HiRe YoU!!” and so you never dye your hair like you want to, you dress nice, you put effort into your appearance for this one day, you wear uncomfortable shoes that shred your heels and you have to wear bandaids for the next week, you give your most thoughtful answers to the interview questions, and it still might not be enough. meanwhile Mr Burger Grease Stained Shirt McGee beside you in his beat up sketchers bullshitted all his answers and landed the job

Drawing Likeness: with Tem!

okaay since a few people actually showed interest in me sharing a bit of what I've been doing to figure out how to really capture likeness, specifically Temuera Morrison, I figured id do my best to write it out

I am also going to entice you with some of my recent clone art! (oooh some of it is unreleaaasedd)

a couple disclaimers before we start

-This is not some definite post about how everyone should be drawing clones, nor is it in any way claiming that this is the right way. This is just my musings as I stare at a mans face for way too long and try to replicate it

-I am inexperienced. As kind as you all are to me, drawing real people is relatively new to me, capturing a persons identity through their features is difficult for anybody, and I am no different. I have watched many a video on likeness and had my share of classes, but If im being honest, i rarely put it into practice successfully. So there'll probably be errors in this post or things i will come back to in a few months and wish I had said/done differently

ANYWAYs you guys get my vibe im just here to ramble and today we are rambling about mr copy paste. I am doing this for Law, my clone boy, because I plan on delving further into oc fanart and I want to put effort into representing him correctly!

SO LETS BEGIN

Before even deciding what specific pose of a person I want to draw, I tend to grab a bunch of references and compile them like so

(all of these can be found on my pinterest)

Why so many? Well, we are about to delve into facial features, so when we are dealing with photos we have to take into account that there are an abundance of circumstances that will influence how a persons face will appear, some of these include:

focal length: All of these are taken on different devices, and focal length can play a big part in distorting faces

age will play a part, your face changes a bunch throughout your life!

lighting, while not as major, can muddy the waters and make it difficult to interpret facial planes and features

SO, to make sure we get a proper grasp of what's really going on, I like to make sure we have lots of options to compare and contrast with.

Next up! What I like to do is block out the main facial features with colour on different layers, the features I block out usually are the general face shape, eyebrows, eyes, nose and lips. But what you are looking for is the defining features of a person, so that could include other things! Maybe a scar, or some particularly prominent cheekbones.

I dont have any rhyme or reason when it comes to picking my colours, all that matters is you can see all the shapes clearly.

Now I may be biased, because Ive been staring at these for 4 hours, but notice how it still looks like Tem? :D

Anyways, now we can break these parts down, and you'll see what I mean about compare and contrast:

We'll start with isolating the facial shape, putting all these next to eachother you'll notice they arent exactly the same (partly because of my shoddy work) But the distinguishing features run through each shape! Namely the very soft rectangular shape I sketched out in the bottom right there. Along with his soft, wide jaw structure.

I did the same for the rest of his features!

You'll notice I highlight the prominent shapes and ratios,

When drawing anything, it is important to start from the very base shapes and build up.

When drawing something you want to look like someone, those shapes relative to other shapes is what makes it look like them.

I didnt use the same technique with his eyes and lips, but I wrote out some helpful info for them! More importantly for his eyes.

When drawing eyes, I find the most important part is where exactly I draw the creases, (along with the overall shape of the eye itself) it is important to understand where those will present themselves with hooded eyes.

NOW, with an understanding of his facial features in place, lets take a detour to colours:

before I start, a couple things to note:

-Temuera morrison versus the clone troopers in the animated shows:

While I love the animated shows they don't exactly stay close to their source material. Im going to link here to an excellent post discussing whitewashing specifically in relation to the clones.

Temuera is Māori, of Te Arawa (Ngāti Whakaue) and Tainui (Ngāti Maniapoto, Ngāti Rarua) whakapapa, and also has Scottish and Irish ancestry.

The Māori people are the indigenous Polynesian people of mainland New Zealand (Aotearoa). Māori originated with settlers from East Polynesia. Māori people often vary in skin tone, Skin colour doesn't determine ethnicity. There's often a correlation but it's not a requirement.

But that is a tangent! What we are aiming for is to stay true to Temuera.

Bringing back my reference photos from before, Ive colour picked a buncha values and theyre all over the place. Why doesnt this work?

Similarly to earlier, you have to take into account the photos themselves. Many things like lighting, colour grading (when it comes to filmography) and makeup, can alter how a skin colour presents in photo.

You can attempt to get true to life by swatching from certain places on the face. Here I've tried to pick some photos with good lighting, and I've also tried to avoid overly lit/shaded areas.

Tem has a very warm, tan skin tone, Instead of colour picking I tend to try and replicate it myself, but I do often bring in references to make sure Im staying true to the source!

a brief intermission to talk about colour theory, something I myself struggle with alot. Often, when putting in flat colours without a background, I will forget to make sure the colours i intend to use will work with the skin tone i have picked! (something that is apparent in older works of mine, not just in relation to clones, but in general, the colours I end up with stray largely from their original sources and it is something I am doing my best to keep in mind and improve in! Although I don't think i am nearly experienced enough in the topic to say I have succeeded yet lol.)

anyways back to Tem :))

Now we can put all of that into practice! Things to keep in mind when drawing out a piece next to a reference like this:

the distance between the eyebrows? how far down his face does his nose go? Basically just, in relation to eachother, where do all those shapes we found earlier, sit?

The screenshot above is from before I did it myself, but instead of directly tracing from the reference, a handy trick I use it to complete your sketch first, and then overlay a traced version to see where your inconsistencies are! Alternatively, you could move your sketch over the image, but I didnt do it that way so!! uh!! im sure it works exactly the same!!!!

When it comes to a final illustration, or any sketch that isnt a direct study, of course you can push and pull and stylise! You'll see below that I'm not exactly 1:1 to my reference photo either.

The important thing with stylisation, or at least my own personal understanding of stylisation is that you need to thoroughly understand the thing you are stylizing! "You need to know the rules to break them" and all that. While shapes, lines and rendering can change, when it comes to drawing someone, and making it look like them, you have to make sure to keep their core features true to source. Caricature can capture a persons vibe whilst drastically exaggerating features, but it will only look like them if you KEEP THOSE FEATURES!!!! SHAPES!!! AHHH!!

But that is just my perspective on the discussion of style versus realism, please dont take is as Law, I dont know what Im on about half the time!!

anyways, after fixing your sketch, add local colours!

I rexified him because why tf not! But this is where you can go crazy with that clone personalization!

And then here is a very very barely rendered version (if you guys want me to explain how i RENDER that would need to be a completely different post, and I havent had anyone ask about it yet so who knows! maybe one day) But I digress, hopefully you learnt something new through my ramblings! It has certainly helped me organize my thoughts and I have also found some areas I would like to focus more on in the future to improve my own art!

TLDR: In order to understand an object, be it a face or a building or literally anything, you have to break it down to its simplest forms, understanding LARGER shapes will help you immensely in the long run

“WHAT THE FUCK!” he yells, the sound echoing throughout the house. you usually check into his streams, but right now your busy figuring out your hours for work and are in no need for distractions.

you look around the living room quickly for a red pen, needing to circle something on the page, but your efforts deem useless. you suddenly remembered schlatt took one into his office with him to do a bit.

you didnt want to find a different red pen because you knew where that one was, so you quietly make your way down the hall before schlatts office.

his fans figured out about you through a lot of bits schlatt would make where he would tag you on twitter or tag any girl he posts on instagram with your username, so you weren’t a private couple, but you still weren’t twitch or youtube public.

you open the door timidly, trying to bring as little attention to yourself as possible. unfortunately for you, the shitty tiktok schlatt was watching just ended, and his spiel afterwards was done.

his head whipped to your direction, and he gave you a grin. you gave him a smile back, and he reached his hand out for you to grab.

you grab ahold of it and make your way behind his chair, head resting on the back of it as your hands snake their ways around his neck.

he speaks briefly to his audience, as he rocks the chair gently from left to right, moving your head along with it. before he looks up at you, eyes full of stars like he’s seen the greatest thing of the entire universe.

“whats wrong?” he whispers, gently. its not a breathy whisper, its just making his voice quieter so the mic can’t pick it up as well (it does still pick it up)

“i know you have a red pen in here and i really need it” you whisper quieter, the mic unable to hear you at all due to you being farther away and also a lot less loud than schlatt.

“oh right yeah,” he reaches to the left of his desk, and grabs the pen. “just be careful its a bit finicky.” he mumbles. his hands reach up to where yours rest around his shoulders, and he gently brings it to his lips, kissing the back of your palm gently.

you smile, take the pen from his grasp, and then peck your head down to kiss the crown of his head, his hair ticking your face. you then break away from him, and thats when you remember he was still live. your face briefly flushes.

schlatt also seemed to have forgotten, as he stares at you grinning as you leave, before he brings his full attention back to the screen. the chat is running like crazy, simply saying your name in all caps and many awws. schlatts cheeks are painted red.

“alright alright chat moment of weakness, lets get a move on.” he continues to stream, but it seems after that encounter; he seemed much happier for the remainder duration of the time live.

Loses his tools constantly

Well not really "lose" so much as "slightly misplace"

Oh, Henry... needless to say that he is everybody's dream, but he is very hard to find, and those big studios aren't easy to sneak on, but I had my way.

I started to hear that he was having a lot of trouble with the costume department, so they were hiring more people to take care of this problem. When I got into the studio to do an interview, a guy with teary eyes, coughing his way out approached me:

"Are you applying for the costume department?" He said between coughs.

"Yeah...I-" he didn’t let me finish.

"Take this" he handed me his credentials and said, "I can't take this any second if this anymore."

He left while I didn't question all the chaos, after all, I was going to meet Henry Cavill!

I came into his trailer and saw him getting ready to shoot. The guy who ran out of here must have been helping him, since he is standing on a pedestal trying to fit into a spandex suit.

"Might you... help me with this?" Henry requested and I froze. Was I going to finally touch all of that body?

I couldn't resist, I approached and started my amateur service, soon I saw why he needed help, that suit was really tight. His upper body was bare because his suit wouldn't pass his thighs.

"Okay... raise your arms." I commanded and he didnt question. There was no reason for this, only for admiring his hairy pits. They were sweaty from the effort of trying to put this on.

"Uhm... how much am I going to stay in this position?" Henry asked.

"Oh I'm just calculating your measures so I can try to fix..."

"No need, this suit was made for me months ago, but they asked for me to reshoot on MY vacations, I'm not skipping my barbecues and burguers for that."

"Oh... I see..." I signalize for him to put his arms down as I take advantage to measure his chest, and yeah... it was made of STEEL, but just to hide my obvious amusement, I asked:

"And how are you planning to fit in this?"

I heard Henry laughing as he stopped to pat his belly. Indeed, some fat featured his ripped muscles, which made him even more delicious.

"I'm a little bloated, so I'll have to let some out..." when he pat his belly again, it stirred something within, and he ripped a deep and gurgly belch on my face:

It exploded on my face, and smelt like burguers. He ripped with no shame, as his expression changed to relief.

"Aaaahh, I think I'm lighter after this." Henry laughed at my coughing fit. "Try to pull the suit up again.

I was a little shocked, but I crouched down to do what he said, at least I was not in the line of his burps again.

With all my force, I managed to pull his suit past his thighs, and now Im stuck at his ass. I think his cheeks are bigger than my head, soft yet strong, but aren't yielding even a little for the spandex.

"Oh, I wouldn't crouch down over there if I was you buddy! Haha" I could hear henry say from above. As I could feel he grabbing the back of my head even closer to his ass.

"We dont have time for that, stinky. Just come out that we put cgi all over it. Geez...." they left as I felt light-headed.

CGI? So I didn't have to take those bombs in the face....

Kuroo: Not very good but he can feed himself in a pinch. Tends to over season so 90% of his food makes you cough. But he’s trying his best to improve and always offers to help if anyone’s in the kitchen, wants to be able to provide for his friends.

Yaku: This boy is STRUGGLING his first week alone in Russia, can’t cook anything harder than toast and boiled eggs. Luckily he can afford to order in all the time cause that’s the only reason he hasn’t starved or poisoned himself. After a while he starts really missing homecooked japanese food—the first time Kuroo visits he makes shitty miso soup and tamagoyaki, it’s too salty but Yaku tears up nonetheless.

Kai: He’s such a sweet guy, definitely helps out around the house and makes dinner for his family some nights. Best at Japanese comfort food, a lot of curries, stews, and hearty vegetables. He’s implied to be Okinawan so that cuisine as well.

Kenma: Eh, he can but that’s a lot of effort. If he puts his mind to it he’s able but he’d rather buy stuff from the convenient store or make ramen. Doesn’t really care about taste so he’ll gladly eat Kuroo’s cooking (though he’s been spoiled by rooming with Fukunaga in college)

Fukunaga: THE PAELLA KING HIMSELF, of course he can cook that’s his job. Any cuisine, any dish, you name it he can pull it off. His specialty is seafood (makes paella in timeskip, favorite food is dried squid, cat-themed team, you get it). Not only can he cook delicious stuff, he turns it into a spectacle; it’s like a full-on performance with all the fancy knife-work and pan-flips. Flambés are a must.

Tora: Went back and forth with him but I actually think he can, at least the basics. He probably cooks for himself and Akane when their parents have late nights at work. He mainly cooks simple stuff like fried rice or curry where he can throw a bunch of ingredients in a pan and let them do their thing.

Also since this is an anoant-haikyuu-dump post and I’m the Fukutora guy I’m contractually obligated to add that although he can cook he never does. His partner is a chef. Once they move in together he never touches the stove again.

Inuoka: Can cook a little but everything ends up at least a touch burnt since he gets impatient and jacks the heat to high. Pretty much exclusively makes grilled meats, vegetables are a rarity in his fridge.

Shibayama: Doesn’t cook much savory stuff but he can bake like no one’s business, makes a mean muffin (which he brings to practice to share). Always trying new recipes and taking them to school for the other first years to try, mainly Inuoka cause hes a human garbage can.

Teshiro: Can follow a recipe pretty well but if anything goes wrong or calls for estimations it’s all over. He once set a pot on fire and just stared at it silently cause he didnt know what to do. At least his meals are always balanced: a protein, a carb, and vegetables.

Lev: Decent, was taught a bit by Alisa growing up. The problem isn’t his skills, it’s that he’s clumsy and doesn’t read directions carefully. He constantly knocks shit over with his gangly arms or throws in tablespoons instead of teaspoons. Clean up is not fun when Lev’s around, flour will find a way into every crevice even if the recipe doesn’t call for it. Him, Inuoka, and Teshiro are a nightmare trio in the kitchen, all for different reasons.
