For me, the most hilarious thing that broke Ladynoir's neck will forever be that Marinette in Kuro Neko never even realized that Shadowmoth presumably having akumatized Chat Noir as a civilian is a BAD THING for more reasons than mostly her having been a bad guardian.
That was for real at the core of her breakdown in that episode, you can re-watch it, its right there, and what Adrien had to accept and sympathize with.
That is hilariously pathetic bc that girl never even realized that if it truly had been civilian Chat Noir who had been akumatized, then merely deakumatizing him wouldn't have been enough by a LONG SHOT bc ShadowMoth fucking FOUND HIM.
Chat and his loved ones would from then on never be safe again in Paris until ShadowMoth is defeated, but Marinette at no point in the episode or even by the end of season 5 ever realizes that.
Straight up canonly speaking, In the scenario of Chat Noir being found by ShadowMoth as a civilian, the biggest victim in Marinette’s eyes was herself and her poor guardianship. That is hilariously depressing.
That boy has barely any worth in her eyes, it's questionable if she even noticed for how long he stopped showing up in the beginning of the episode. If the father son Story had dared to happen like in Ephemeral before and Adrien had been caught behind her back and now was in desperate need of her PLEASE realizing that Chat isn't showing up anymore, man, if Gabriel had been using the opportunity to try and manipulate Adrien into thinking Ladybug doesn't care for him Gabriel would have straight up succeeded here.
But sure, Ladynette is bestest gurl, leader and partner in all of fiction lol
Not to mention, Marinette just dead ass let CatWalker be the deciding voice of the Ladynoir conflict, despite him from her perspective having no right to claim he has any strong opinion on this at all.
À random prince charming showed up for 10 minutes, told her she's the most amazing and blameless person who ever walked upon earth and that Chat's an ungrateful count with no rights so HE - CatWalker - will now dedicate himself to be her magical perfect care taker 'as she deserves'
And gurl just went "well damn, you are right! Chat IS a cunt, I AM blameless and deserves a perfect therapy prince!" and just called it a day and never learned from this.
From Marinette's perspective CatWalker should have been the most blatantly obvious manipulator ever since she has no idea if Plagg actually made it safely to Fu's "second black cat" and she should have punched him in the face for how bluntly he shit talked Chat Noir and tried making her fall for and trust him - CatWalker.
But nah. shit-talking Chat and stroking her ego were when Marinette genuinely fell in love with him for good and only send him away when having CatWalker around wasn't practical for her hero performance (which was then ALSO indirectly blamed on Chat Noir in the end lol
Nice, good to know that Marinette's dream love interest and partner being a magical desperate care taker of perfection who would rather rip himself apart than ask a single thing of her, and that alarming romantic type of hers having made her incapable of paying attention to the fight was CHAT NOIR'S fault, or how else could she be a flawless queen?
That episode is AWFUL lol
And she never even learned anything at any point. She still considered Monarch finding out Chat's identity irrelevant in Elation bc one "No" in over 4 seasons was enough for her to almost agree turning into his enemy and give Monarch Chat's identity herself so she can know what name his lips are attached to. An akumatization CHAT had to prevent by kissing her despite not wanting it.
Amazing, what a role model for girls.
And at the end of season 5 Chat Noir still was the human sacrifice because Adrien knew he has no right to ask for help from Ladybug bc she's all that matters, but at least he could tell Plagg that Ladybug will "forgive him" and he'll be Chat Noir again.
Magnificent. Feminism truly peaked with Marinette Dupain-Cheng.
What value does she see in him again beyond her comfort and endless moral free passes and rewards for barely giving a damn? Because I truly can't figure out what Marinette's oh so pure love for her Kitty is actually supposed to be. The more I look into it, the more superficial Marinette's side of Ladynoir and Marichat becomes.
Writers really dropped the ball on the one thing their show was hinging on huh.
Thank you for your ask!

Class of Heroes AU: Miracuclass (+Others)
I absolutely love the Class of Villainy AU by @artzychic27 and @imsparky2002! It inspired me to come up with an AU where they’re the heroes instead of villains! These are what I have so far. I’d love to hear any suggestions you have for the others! I may even change the ones I have if I like an idea! Love and hugs!
Marinette: Mulan. Clumsy and a bit scatterbrained, Marinette took the place of her childhood friend, Socqueline, at the school so she could follow her dream. She aims to be a good warrior, but her inability to stay balanced may impede that.
Adrien: Rapunzel. Sealed away in a tower by his overprotective father for most of his life, he’s relishing his newfound freedom by trying to learn as much as he can and make as many friends as possible. His shining golden hair has healing powers.
Alya: Tiana. Driven and motivated, she is determined to open up her own, world famous restaurant, often neglecting to take care of herself in the process. She works several jobs to save up money and to help support her large family!
Nino: Fairy Godbrother. (Thanks to @artzychic27!) The ultimate bro, whatever you need, he’s got you! New duds? Sneaking out? Bam, you got it! His magic has a pesky time limit though…
Max: Hiro Hamada. (Thanks to @imsparky2002!) a brilliant young inventor who excels in anything related to robotics. He is typically accompanied by his most proud creation, Markov, an AI robot designed to tend to the sick and wounded. (Markov as Baymax!!!)
Alix: Aladdin. A cunning and quick-footed street urchin who loves to mess with authority figures. She also has mild kleptomania, obviously. She usually gives things back…
Kim: Hercules. A demigod with incredible strength, desires nothing more than to help people and be a hero. Sometimes gets overconfident and into trouble, needing help from his friends.
Ondine: Ariel. A young mermaid princess who made a deal with the sea witch Amelie to become a human in order to go to school. Bright-eyed and curious about the surface world, sometimes gets into trouble. Bonds with Marinette over being insanely clumsy. (She’s getting used to her legs…)
•Ondine and Kim are still dating in this universe. He was immediately smitten with the sweet, beautiful mer-girl when he caught her falling from a staircase on the first day of school.
Marc: Elsa. Terrified of hurting people with his ice powers, Marc is shy and withdrawn, constantly wearing his gloves and retreating to solitary places when he feels his control slipping. Nathaniel is the only person who can calm him down.
Nathaniel: Aurora. (Thanks to @artzychic27!) A shy and passionately creative boy who was cursed as an infant to be put to sleep for a hundred years unless he receives a kiss from his true love before he turns 16! Thankfully, a certain ice prince may be able to help him with that!
Sabrina: Pinocchio. A wooden puppet brought to life, she wants desperately to be a real child like her classmates. She’s upstanding and follows rules, like her father taught her, as well as very sweet, but you could say she has a bit of a problem with brutal honesty…
Mylene: Snow White. A quiet and shy girl, with a love for animals and nature. She spent most of her time in the forest, before she was driven from her kingdom by her cruel stepmother after her father’s death, the woman being jealous of how the people adored the princess.
Ivan: Quasimodo. Told that people would always be scared of him for his hulking and intimidating appearance, he spent most of his life hiding away. He’s still incredibly shy and gets along well with the school’s gargoyles.
• Ivan is surprised when the quiet and gentle Mylene isn’t scared of him, and the two quickly develop a sweet relationship.
Juleka: Beast. She and her household were cursed by a dark sorcerer for rejecting him, and it caused her to become cold and withdrawn. Until she meets Rose….
•Luka is still her brother. He was turned into a grand piano.
Rose: Belle. Kind and loving with a fondness of reading fairytales, Rose sees the beauty in everything and everyone. She makes it her mission to befriend Juleka, and the two eventually fall in love.
Zoe: Cinderella. Treated as a servant by her cruel stepfamily, Zoe is allowed to come to the school to continue attending Chloé’s whims. Her friends are helping her learn to stand up for herself.
Kagami: Merida. A fiery princess who fights hard against the restraints put on her by her controlling mother. She’s fond of fencing and archery.
(They all go to a big, fancy-schmancy prep/boarding school a la Auradon Prep. It’s basically a giant castle, with fairies, royalty and others for teachers!)

"#bushy try not to bring up puppeteer 2 all the time challenge" no I don't think you should. I think everyone needs to talk about this episode more because it's such a great episode but people always overlook it
YOU HEARD IT HEAR FOLKS I HAVE BEEN ENABLED
I've talked AT LENGTH about why Puppeteer 2 is the best episode for adrinette development since Origins, but there was one scene I didn't mention.
That's right folks
IT'S TIME TO DISSECT THAT SCENE
Here's the most important thing: THIS SCENE BROKE THE TENSION BETWEEN THEM
Marinette was struggling to be honest with her feelings because she was nervous around him, while Adrien was afraid of her disliking him.
This scene made them become actual friends. Yes, they were friends before this. But in this one they became closer than ever before, more than just classmates.
Read more because I am going to include screenshots and rant about this episode till the end of time hehehe
Okay, for starters, remember what the mindset of our two leads is right now. You have Marinette who has been thinking about her relationship with Adrien and her inability to confess and talk about her feelings.
Meanwhile, Adrien is desperate to be her friend. The idea that they aren't, that she doesn't even like him is devastating to him. Remember, friends are so important to Adrien (I would even argue his friendships are even more important to him than his romantic relationships). More than that, Marinette was his first friend. (At least the first one he called a friend).
LOOK AT THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HIS EXPRESSIONS THERE.
H E A R T B R O K E N
To have thought Marinette didn't see him the same way, would have hurt him so deeply. So he does what he thinks he has to show her that yes, he is a friend. And Adrien totally knows how friends work Agreste decides that ahhh yes I'm going to play a prank on my very good friend. Afterall, it's how Plagg makes me feel better, so this will work to help me make Marinette feel better. (using English dub here cause I can't speak French but if folks wanna let me know what the differences in dialogue are here please do)
(adrien my sweet summer child you)
Then we have Marinette, who is sooooooo deep in her spiral of being unable to communicate and Adrien her feelings, she's reached a point where she isn't even sure if she can anymore. That's why she did it, she wanted to role-play to prove to herself she can (and if anyone is here to blame it's Tikki for encouraging her, #evil tikki)
She's already siked herself out to the point where when she does see Statue Adrien, her head is in that impulsive I need to prove I can do anything state.
She also really does love Adrien, and being in such high emotions all day of course she's going to be a little lovesick when she sees statue him
And this is all extremely in character for her.
Marinette is hopeless and impulsive to a fault, missing social cues at times but more importantly she thought she was safe here. She was under the impression Adrien was a statue and what perfect timing because she needed to practice!!!! So she takes advantage of the opportunity and does her most Marinette scene of all time. She romances a statue. And remember SHE THOUGHT SHE WAS SAFE HERE.
Salters like to blame this all on Marinette but the reality here is Adrien was just as much at fault as she was.
And so comes the most Marinette of scenes in the entirety of the show. This right here, is her character. Impulsive, silly, dramatic, but with love and a heart several sizes too big.
And she is acting like a 14 year old girl with a crush. Please give her some slack and let her live her life my dudes.
(also you are lying if you say you wouldn't have done exactly the same thing she did and try to kiss the statue I know some of you also kissed posters or pictures or made out with a pillow don't even try to lie)
(side note the animation in this episode is some of the best of the season like holy heck the eye details this scene is worth it for the animation alone)
Like it baffles me that people can call themselves Marinette stans and hate this scene, because it's so her!!!
Not to mention even Adrien felt bad about the prank, rightfully so. But he didn't get upset with her because he understood she wasn't doing something to hurt him. No instead he wants to comfort and reassure her because remember, Adrien genuinely cares for Marinette and wants to be her friend. He moves past her embarrassing antics because he is an empathetic soul who gets it and wants to help Marinette as well. He also recognizes he was also at fault here and rightfully apologizes too.
Then, they actually sit down to talk about it and communicate (although Marinette doesn't explain her true feelings because she is embarrassed, and who can blame her)
And at the end of the day, this is a show meant to be lighthearted and humorous and fun. This was a fun scene that really encapsulates the lighthearted nature of the show. It also shows off these characters in fun ways. Adrien gets to show off his jokester side, which he doesn't often get to do as Adrien. Meanwhile, he gets to see Marinette be a dramatic disaster and more than that they get to break the ice and become real friends.
But also, this scene is a wonderful opportunity for you, the viewer to overcome your own fears.
There's a type of therapy called Exposure therapy where we support someone with extreme anxiety by showing them through a hierarchal ladder that they can manage and deal with their anxiety, that it is possible to sit with anxiety and face it as opposed to just avoiding it.
In fact, avoidance makes everything so much worse.
The thing I hear most from people who hate the statue scene is that they don't watch it. The thing I hear that baffles me is they have never watched it because they are scared of the scene. Some people are so certain they will hate it, they skip the episode entirely or never watch the scene.
And by doing that, you are pretty much just affirming your fears. You are telling yourself that you are going to be uncomfortable and thus you don't even try.
You are basically being Marinette, too afraid to try.
Except Marinette is at least trying to face her fears, and this episode, she even does a little bit. She doesn't confess the full extent of her feelings, but she does share some of her thoughts and is able to overcome her anxiety to the point where subsequent episodes she can talk to Adrien and even confess.
Marinette, a 14-year-old fictional character, can face her fears. Why can't you?
I implore you if you haven't watched the episode, convinced that you can't handle the cringe, try. Just get through it. Think of it as a moment of exposure. Think of it as the first step to face a fear or anxiety you've always had.
Then, once you've watched it once, that's great! You did it! You watched it! I am so, so proud of you! Facing a fear is extremely terrifying, but that first step is crucial! Watch it once, and then do it again and again until it's no longer cringe. If it's hard to watch again, maybe ask yourself why? Why is this 30 second scene so tough to handle? Does it remind you of something in your personal life? Or are you afraid that it will remind you of something?
I cringed too when I first watched it, but I never skipped it. And now, it's one of my favorite scenes because it is so quintessentially Marinette that it has to be. To love a character is to love all of them, even their worst. But more importantly, learning how to love someone's faults is the first step to loving them truly, and the first step to help someone love themselves.
Remember, Adrien, the person who was in the damn scene, still cares about Marinette. If you like the characters, maybe it's time to take a page from their book and try it out yourself. Try a bit of exposure therapy, and see how it might feel.

I Want To Be Your Cat
If he didn’t know any better, he’d say she was waiting for him, opening the hatch to her balcony mere seconds after he scratched at it.
“Adrien? What are you doing here? Why are you still a cat?”
His paws had never taken so long to morph into human limbs before.
Faster! He didn’t have much time left, and he wanted to take her in his arms and press her close to his chest one last time. Fur slowly dissolved all over his body, replaced by the designer clothes he’d soon no longer need. His fingers elongated, arms stretched, legs straightened. As soon as he could, Adrien wrapped Marinette in a hug, burying his face in the crook of her neck.
She was so warm. And for the next ten minutes, she was all his. At least, he could pretend so. He knew she would allow him this selfish whim because she was his friend and ten minutes was all he had.
Hesitantly, Marinette embraced him back. “Adrien? What’s wrong? Why are you here? Why are you still a cat? Did the kiss not work?”
Unable to explain it even to himself, Adrien tightened his grip on her. The decision he’d made just a short while ago was spontaneous and unexpected, but it felt so natural and perfect there was no doubt in his heart it was the right one.
“Adrien, please, talk to me. Why are you trembling? Did Kagami reject you?”
He shook his head. He hadn’t even tried. That whole idea was a mistake. Kagami was not the one. Friendship was all there was between them, but he was too ignorant and naive to realize it sooner. Too oblivious to recognize the love he’d harboured for another girl for years. At least until he saw her leave his birthday party with another.
“Adrien?”
“I want to be your cat,” he whispered against her neck. “Please, take me in.”
Marinette ripped him away from herself, staring at him in shock. “Adrien, no! You can’t do that. You have to stay human. Go back to Kagami, share a true love’s kiss, and lift this curse of yours. You aren’t throwing your life away on my watch! I won’t let you!”
He shook his head, tears pooling in his eyes. Marinette cared. Perhaps not in the same way he cared for her, but he’d take it. He’d take a short life as a cat in Marinette’s care over every other possibility. “It’s too late.”
“It isn’t!” Marinette untangled herself from him, scampered back into her room, and frantically searched for her phone. “I’ll call Kagami and ask her where she is. You’ll race to her, kiss her, and you will stay human, Adrien. The day isn’t over yet. There’s still some time left.”
Eight minutes, to be precise. That was all Adrien had left. He’d rather not waste those precious moments on the solution he no longer wanted.
“It’s too late.” Catching up to her, Adrien grasped her hand, his gaze locked on hers. “I won’t make it even if I try.”
Her body trembled as she looked at him in desperation, silently pleading with him to listen.
Adrien’s lips curled in a smile. He tucked a stray hair behind her ear, whispering, “It’s fine. I’ve always known this was a possibility.”
Tears burst from Marinette’s eyes as she threw herself onto his chest. Adrien wrapped his arms around her, savouring every last moment of holding her close.
What would he give right now for her to love him back? For his past self to realize his feelings sooner? Perhaps, he would’ve had a chance then because as it stood now… Luka was a great guy, and Marinette would be happy with him. As for Adrien… Adrien would be content to be her cat.
“You’re an idiot.” She sobbed into his shirt. “Why didn’t you kiss her? We planned everything. We set everything up! The venue, the party. We left you two alone. Everything was ready! You only had to ask her to be your girlfriend and kiss her. You love each other, Adrien, so why are you here? You should be with Kagami, getting rid of your curse!”
His grip tightened, eyes catching a soft glow of the wall clock in her room.
Five minutes.
“Kagami is not my true love, Marinette. It wouldn’t have worked. I like her, but I’m not in love with her, and if I have no choice but to be a cat for the rest of my life, I want to be yours.”
Her eyes widened as she looked at him. “But… I thought… You said that you loved her!”
“I thought so. I thought that was love but… tonight I was forced to reevaluate what I feel and for whom, and I realized that I was wrong. A friendship is all that it ever was. My heart had always belonged to someone else.”
“Someone else? Who? Can we still find them?”
He shook his head. “It’s too late now.”
“It’s never too late!”
He cradled her face in his hands, his gaze on her as warm and loving as a ray of early-day sunshine. “Marinette, it’s fine. I’ll be fine as a cat as long as I’m yours. Will you take me in?”
Tears streamed down her face as she raised her eyes to him, trying her best to smile. “I’ll never kick you out, even if I’m pissed at you for throwing your life away. Everyone already thinks I have a cat anyway because you’ve been hanging around here so much.”
Adrien couldn’t help a chuckle. Marinette was the only one, apart from his parents, who knew about his misfortune. She had found out on accident the day she started interning at Gabriel. All Marinette had wanted was to steal a peaceful moment to herself during lunch in an abandoned room at the end of a hallway. What she had gotten was an unsuspecting, cursed cat jumping into the window of said room, thinking it was the perfect place for a transformation. When Adrien had noticed her, it was too late.
Half a day as a human, half a day as a cat. Cursed at his birth by an ancient spirit his father angered, the only choice Adrien had in the matter was the freedom to choose which hours he was spending in what form, as long as the hours were even.
His twenty-first birthday was appointed as a pivotal date. Should he find his true love and share a kiss with them on that day, he’d be free of the curse. Should he kiss someone else, he’d become their cat, unable to walk away from that person for as long as he lived. Should he fail to kiss anyone, a feral stray’s life on the streets of Paris was his future.
Marinette had been unexpectedly understanding. She hadn’t run in horror or backed away in disgust. She’d offered to help. She’d given him a hug, and not a pitying one at that. No. Her touch had been, and still was, full of love, support, and unconditional acceptance.
Not a day had passed since then without Adrien visiting Marinette, mostly as a cat though. This brought a whole new dimension to their relationship because while his mind remained human in his feline form, his instincts and senses were a different story.
The first time Marinette had patted him, he’d become addicted to her touch. When she had scratched behind his ear, he was ready to sell his soul for more. And every single time she had allowed his cat-self to sleep in her bed, curled up against her soft, warm body, Adrien had died and ascended to heaven. No amount of human life with anyone else would even stand to compare to what he could have with Marinette. Even as a cat.
Two minutes, and his new life would begin.
“If I dare…” he whispered, looking into her gorgeous blue eyes. “I know you don’t like me this way, but… I was wondering if you’ll allow me one last indecency?”
Tears streaming down her face, she couldn’t say a word, spare a soft whisper of his name.
“Please,” he pleaded. “I swear I won’t ask you for anything else. I don’t want to be a stray. The life on the streets… I’ve seen it. It’s… I won’t last long there. Please, Marinette. Make me your cat. I loved being your cat these past few months.”
“You could’ve been a human, you dummy, if only—”
He shook his head. “The one I love doesn't feel the same way about me.”
“How do you know?”
One minute.
Adrien couldn’t delay any longer. He wanted so much more with Marinette, but if being her cat was all he could ever have, he’d be damned to let that chance slip past him. Hesitantly, he brushed his fingers against her cheek. “It doesn’t matter anymore. May I kiss you, Marinette?”
The clock slowly counted the seconds as she stared at him wide-eyed.
Half a minute.
She remained silent.
Had he crossed the line? Was there nothing but the life of a stray left for him?
“Idiot!” Marinette pulled him down and crashed her lips against his without warning.
Burned by her touch, Adrien froze. She pressed closer, the heated dance of her lips against his bringing him back to reality. So warm, tender, and oh, so soft. Adrien couldn’t ignore her even if he wanted to. He tilted his head and pulled Marinette closer, deepening the kiss, leaving nothing, not even an inch of space between them.
His. For the next thirty seconds, this woman was his.
Her scent, her warmth, her delicate frame. He drank her in like he would never drink again. She pulled away to catch a breath. Adrien refused to let her go, trailing butterfly kisses along her jaw, down to her neck, then back to her lips. He had just seconds left. He couldn’t waste them. His body was tingling with magic already. Soon, he would transform for the last time so…
One more kiss. One more touch. Just one more moment.
Her breathing ragged, Marinette withdrew once more. He pulled her back. He was still human. There was still time for one more kiss. Yet she refused, grabbing his face with her hands.
“Adrien, wait.”
“One more. Please. Just one more.”
She squeezed his cheeks, leaning her forehead against his. “It’s past midnight.”
Was that a no? He closed his eyes, melting into her touch. He’d never force her. She already gave him more than he deserved. “Thank you. I’ll be a good cat. I promise.”
“Adrien,” Marinette whispered, her eyes locked on him. “It’s past midnight, and you’re still human.”
There must have been a mistake. Adrien glanced at the clock on the wall, his eyes widening in an instant.
Three minutes past midnight.
“Marinette…” His heart sprang into a race, eyes locked on the girl in his arms. Did that mean she…
“I love you,” she whispered, her smile shaky. “I’ve always loved you, Adrien. I wanted to tell you, but you said you loved Kagami, so I kept silent.”
His vision blurred, a lump forming in his throat. Marinette hid her feelings from him because he said he loved another? But…
“I thought you loved Luka?”
She shook her head. “Even Luka knows I love you.”
His lips stretching into a smile, Adrien pulled Marinette closer, his arms wrapping tightly around her. A giggle slipped past her lips, filling the room with light.
His. This wonderful, amazing girl was his and his alone. His true love. His Marinette. The woman with whom he was ready to start the rest of his life as a cat but was blessed to stand by her side as a man.
“I love you too,” he whispered, tears of joy flowing from both of their eyes.
Finding her lips again, Adrien caught them in a heated kiss. Her arms wove around his neck as Marinette melted against him, fitting perfectly in his arms, his life, his heart. Just the way he now knew he fit in hers.

I'm interested in the Lila exposed au about your akumasona. What's that?
For those who don’t know my OC (self insert) akumasona Zoe Rapporte (The Enchanted Florist), but her family owns a flower shop that is pretty successful - think “This florist does the arrangements at the Grand Paris and for High Profile Events” - so she’s mildly acquainted with Adrien from some of those events. Maybe not friends, but like when you frequent a coffee shop so much that you learn all the staff’s name and they all remember you.
So Lila is not above dropping lots of money to sell her lies (hello Gabriel Collection Fox Necklace) and one of her lies to her mother is that Adrien is her boyfriend. And what boyfriend doesn’t send his lovely girlfriend flowers, especially one as well off as Adrien Agreste? And really, as long as his name is on the card when her mother accepts them at the door, that’s all that matters, right?
So Zoe takes note that once a week this prissy girl with a bizarre hairstyle comes in to place a rather pricey bouquet order under Adrien’s name and has it delivered to the same address that’s on the credit card bill - doesn’t take a genius to figure out this delusional weirdo is pretending a celebrity is sending her flowers weekly. It’s a little strange because Zoe could’ve sworn she saw on TV that this chick had done photo shoots with Adrien before and based on his Instagram she was his classmate, so it’s kinda concerning that she’s going this far to burrow her way into his life. Still, she’s dropping quite a bit of coin and it’s really none of Zoe’s business, yeah?
But then imagine there’s a class event - maybe a dance, maybe a teacher’s appreciation week, maybe an alumni reunion - that needs our favorite class representative and her deputy to order a large amount of flowers. And Adrien, ever desperate to do his part, takes it upon himself to help with the budget. And maybe Nino decides to come for no particular reason lol.
So the four walk into the Rapporte Flower Shop and Adrien is so excited to introduce his friends to one of the familiar faces from his VIP world. And he’s just so exuberant as he brags about his friends and is so wholesome and different from the put together boy Zoe would briefly meet at those stuffy events that this surge of sisterly affection makes her completely forget her usual “none of my business” attitude. She’s got to let him know what it going on behind his back, especially if there’s a chance that he has no idea what kind of girl “Mlle. Rossi at the fifth story walk up” was.
And who knows? Maybe this was a misunderstanding, a weird arrangement Adrien had with his secret girlfriend to make sure she gets exactly the type of bouquet she wants? Zoe recons she’s had stranger requests. Welp, no better way to clear the air than to just ask.
“Hey Adrien, you know there’s this weird girl that comes in once a week and has flowers delivered to herself under your name?”
Adrien paused in his rant about Nino’s music mixing skills (having already left Alya puffing her chest in pride and Marinette a red puddle of embarrassed goo) to stare blankly at Zoe. “I beg your pardon?”
“Oh yeah.” Zoe leaned into her palm, looking way too relaxed considering what she’d just dropped on him. “For, like, the two months at least. Always has us address her card ‘Distance Makes the Heart Grow Fonder, Ma Belle, from Your Loving Boyfriend Adrien Agreste’.”
“What the heck?!” Alya exclaimed from beside Nino who’s jaw was dropped in disbelief. “That’s crazy messed up. Adrien doesn’t even have a girlfriend, what does this psycho think she’s doing?!”
“Right? I don’t know who she thinks she fooling. What kind of boyfriend needs to sign his full name?”
“It is pretty weird.” Adrien said, rubbing his neck in discomfort. “But it’s not the strangest thing a fan has done. It’s not that big a deal, right?”
“Dude.” Nino started, staring at his best friend in mild horror. “Just because you don’t know this girl doesn’t make it ‘no big deal’.”
“Oh no.” Zoe pipes up again. “He knows her.”
“What?!” All of Adrien’s friend’s exclaimed. Even Adrien looked a bit shook by her admission.
Alya zipped over to the counter, leaning dangerously close to Zoe’s remarkably unfazed face. “What do you mean ‘he knows her’?! How do you know that?! This sounds like a creepy fangirl but you’re telling me she’s actually in Adrien’s life?!”
“I should say so. I mean, it was even on TV that she was modeling with Adrien and she’s made a few appearances on his instagram.” Zoe brought out her phone, casually thumbing open Instagram. “I would’ve just ignored it, but if she’s going around pretending she’s dating Adrien then he has the right to know.”
“Modeling with....and you said on his instagram...?”
“Are...” Marinette piped up, voice dripping with trepidation. “Are you talking about Lila?”
“Marinette,” Alya gave her friend a withering look. “Just because you don’t like her doesn’t mean you can just accuse her of-”
Zoe cut her off, flashing her phone screen at the group to present a photo, having found the image she was looking for: a brunette with a straight fringe and her forelocks in twin tails leaning possessively over an uncomfortably smiling Adrien.
“Yes, Mlle. Rossi! I’d recognize that crazy hairstyle anywhere.” She turned the phone back to look at it herself. “Pft, Adrien, what’s with this caption? ‘Lila insisted I take post this picture?’ Yikes, man, learn to say no.”
Alya waved her hands in front of her, eyes scrunched closed in disbelief. “Hold up, hold up, hold up. You have GOT to be getting this twisted. Lila wouldn’t do something that like this, that’s just...wrong!”
“I mean, this is definitely the girl I was talking about.” Zoe said slowly, raising one eyebrow at Alya’s response. “And Rossi is the name on the bill. What exactly am I ‘getting twisted?’“
“Because!..Because Lila just wouldn’t!”
“Yeah!” Nino shouted from behind her, shaking himself out of the stupor this whole situation left him in. “She said she wasn’t into Adrien like that!”
Zoe snorted. “And you believed her?”
“W-well yeah, why would she lie about that...?”
“You guys are so cute. And definitely need to watch more True Crime shows.”
“What-?”
“Sorry Adrien.” Zoe lofted over Alya’s shoulder, cutting off another defensive quip. “I know she was your friend. I just wanted to make sure you knew.”
“Ah, no, she’s not really- I mean, I’m not that surprised to be honest.” Adrien offered weakly.
“It sounds right up her alley.” Marinette growled, fingers digging into her crossed arms.
“What...” Nino and Alya turned to their friends, confused and anxious. “What are you talking about? This..this is Lila we’re talking about!”
“The same Lila who got Marinette expelled?” Adrien stated, face grim and tired.
“That was rescinded, it wasn’t her fault-”
“The same Lila who sent everyone in Adrien’s contact list picture of her kissing Adrien?” Marinette ground out, aggravated.
“I mean, that was weird, but I’m sure she didn’t mean-”
“The same Lila who got my bodyguard and Natalie in trouble with my dad?”
“Or maybe the same Lila who stole Adrien’s dad’s book and threw it in the trash?”
“She did WHAT-?!”
“I-I fished it out for you!”
“Wait is that how you knew about Lila-”
“Wow.” Zoe whistled, again cutting the group off. “What a class act. Sounds like a great friend you got there, Adrien.”
“Oh trust me.” Adrien growled, eyes never leaving Marinette who steadfastedly refused to look at him. “After this we’re NOT friends.”
Alya held her head with one hand, staring at the ground. “Wait, wait, this...this can’t be right, Lila isn’t...she wouldn’t do this, she wouldn’t, she’s...cool! And nice! And-! She just can’t!”
Zoe cocked her head toward’s Alya, leveling her with a patient stare. “Well, then what is she doing?” Alya looked up blankly at her, prompting her further. “The truth of the matter is that Lila Rossi comes in once a week, and has been for at least two months, buying flowers to be delivered to her own address (which I know because it matches up to the address on the card with her last name on it), but dictates that the card say it was sent by Adrien. If she’s not faking that Adrien is sending her flowers, what is she doing?”
“I...I don’t...” Alya floundered. They were just supposed to order some flowers, how did the day turn like this?!
“You’re an investigative reporter, right? What’s that old Sherlock Holmes saying? ‘Once you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth’?”
Alya leaned into Nino, staring out at the shop, searching for something to make some sense. She thought Lila was nice, was her friend, was everyone’s friend! But this stunt with Adrien...what does it even mean...?
Everyone looked towards the employee door as footsteps could be heard approaching. A moment later Tama, Zoe’s younger sister, stepped into the shop, pausing at the door when she realized five pairs of eyes were staring at her. She looked over the customers, taking in Marinette’s slight glower, Adrien’s tight jaw, and Nino and Alya’s devastated posture.
“Soooo, are you here to buy some bouquets?”

Pairing: Luka Couffaine x Fem!Reader
Summary: When on Juleka’s birthday party sleepover, heartbroken Luka and Y/N are paired to be alone in Luka’s cabin for the night. What if they find comfort in one another, just for tonight...?
PART 2
A/N: This is a sneak peak of the story I’m currently working on! I’m not sure if I will ever publish it but I’m currntly trying to get some ideas so If you could give me some feedback on this I would be really grateful :)
“And Y/N you can be in Luka’s cabin with him” said Juleka grinning, as everybody gathered around her for the sleepover. A couple of them will be placed in one cabin, few of them, including Adrien, Marinette, Nino and Alya will be sleeping in the living room of the inside of the boat and only her and Luka have a cabin for themselves.
She didn’t know what her friend Juleka was trying to do because the purple haired girl very much knew about Luka and Marinette. And her crush on Adrien. Placing them together just, wouldn’t work… A slight feeling of awkwardness travelled between Luka and Y/N as they looked at each other.
“I don’t know what Juleka is trying to do” she started as she put down her bag with clothes in the corner of his room. Luka’s blue eyes travelled from the corner of his bed to her. He was carelessly sitting down on the mattress, strumming his guitar lightly.
“You like Adrien?” he asked without thinking. There was no point in masking the truth, so she nodded slightly. “I’m not so sure anymore. But yes, he is kinda cool.”
There was no point in asking Luka about his love life as everybody knew about his crush on the clumsy girl from the bakery. And her desperate obsession over the young blond model.
As night came closer, the tension in the room rose and the two were practically unable to look at each other in the eye. Contradicting the warm day, chilly night took over the town like a dark baby’s blanket. Suddenly, it was significantly colder in the room. Shivering at the slight breeze coming from the open window, Y/N tensed as she walked around the room. Her steps were light and unnoticable, providing a feeling of a fairy in the world.
“You’re shivering. Here, take my jacket.”Luka rose from his seat and walked over to his closet, pulling out a black jacket that was obvious to be warm. In a split second he handed it over to her.
“So, sleeping arrangements...” he started, his usually confident posture was now somewhat...scared. “You can take the bed, I’ll be on the floor.” he finished his sentence. That was fine with her. As long as they aren’t required to share the bed, she is fine with it.
Luka had a mattress on the floor for him, covered with blankets and pillows, It was right next to the bed but she didn’t mind. She found it comforting. Having somebody close to her made her calm. Especially now...
“Luka? Are you awake?” she spoke quietly, careful to keep her voice as low as possible if the boy she was craving was in fact, asleep.
Muffled sound of shifting on his mattress indicated he wasn’t. It was at that moment that she thanked every powerful force out there. “Yeah” he answered with a low voice.
“What are you thinking about?” she asked, crawling to the edge of the bed to look at him.
He was lying on his back, his blue eyes were pointed towards the ceiling. His shoulders twitched for a split second at her question.
“Her” the voice that was saying this now wasn’t the same voice she knew Luka had. He usually sounded confident, flirty, and kind. Somehow mysterious, even. But now, when he spoke it was filled with tears. The melody it made was sad and slow, spreading melancholy. The words no longer flew from his lips to her ears, but they struggled to get through. He was broken.
As if he quickly realized something, his eyes shifted from the ceiling to her.”Why can’t you sleep, darling?”
Without thinking twice, his hand reached up to caress her cheek and she fell into his touch completely taken by the softness of his skin on hers.
“What are you thinking about?” he asked again
She wished she could tell him. She really does want to. Oh, how she just wants to tell him everything. From being Bonita, to everything with Chat Noir, to Adrien who she thought she liked but now was not so sure. She wanted to tell him everything and cry into his chest as he hums her to sleep. But she couldn’t say a word. She was stuck. She had to be the strong one here, now. Luka needed comfort, not her.
“Thoughts.” she answered as his worried expression looked deep into her eyes. “Just thoughts.”
“Adrien?” he asked carefully and when he saw her stiffen he quickly added “I’m sorry, you don’t have to talk about it if you don’t want to” his hand left her cheek as he felt he had crossed a line.
“It’s okay.” the feeling of sadness and disappointment hit her more when the warmth of his hand no longer rested on her cold cheek. She really was cold. Luka shifted his gaze to the ceiling again, unable to look at her again in the eyes. If only he knew he was the one she needed right now.
Maybe it was the juice she had earlier, maybe it was the feeling of lost love that wasn’t exactly a love, but she was confident in what she was saying. She spoke in a blink “Come here” earning a startled and blushed Luka’s face. He looked at her for answers and she just scooted to the back of his bed, removing the sheets so he could climb under them, next to her.
“Are you sure?” he asked, not wanting to make her uncomfortable.
“I’m sure. You need a hug, I need a hug. We both need comfort. If you want to.” she ended the sentence carefully as the confidence from just a moment before slowly faded away. Luka shook his head and carefully climbed to the bed next to her.
The warmth of her body felt comfortable to him. If he had to die now, he knew there was no other place he would rather be than here with her. She scooted over as the blue boy rested head on the pillow.Nobody spoke for a few seconds, nobody dared to move.
“I just want her to be happy.” he spoke, his voice breaking “But it hurts. I may not show it but it does hurt.” he said, turning his gaze to her as she pulled him in a tight hug.His head rested underneath her neck, as she pulled him close and tight. Her hands wrapped around him, afraid of letting him go. It was peaceful. It feels comfortable.
“It’s okay, baby” she twirled her fingers in his hair as he reassured him. “It’s okay”
Luka didn’t say anything, he just pulled closer to her, taking in her gentle perfume. “Can we stay like this for a bit?” he asked shyly as his mind travelled to other places- Marinette.
“Yeah, yeah we can.” her body shook in approval and her lips dared to travel to his head. giving him a reassuring kiss. Nobody said anything anymore. Silence took over the form of two bodies intertwined so tightly, afraid of losing each other. Suddenly, the room appeared colder and the only source of heat was the person who was with them.
When Y/N was sure the boy was asleep she placed another kiss upon his head speaking to herself. “Marinette’s a fool for letting you go. It’ll all be okay.” she finished as she herself drifted off to sleep still holding the body of the blue-eyed boy close.

‘Akumatized Marinette’ A funny prompt!
So ive seen a few different fics and posts where Lila convinces the class that Marinette is in fact Mayura and/or is working in some way for Hawkmoth, using such evidence as ‘Marinette’s never been akumatized’ and citing how sometimes Marinette’s attempts to be helpful or friendly or yes her mistakes have resulted in an akuma going after her classmates. Also other evidence like how many akumas the class has had total. But what if Lila could not convince class that Marinette was working with Hawkmoth, desperate to connect Marinette to the supervillain in hopes of plummeting her reputation Lila claims that Marinette is in fact AKUMATIZED hence her villainous actions towards Lila!
Now just follow me here:
What if the class don't believe Lila THAT MUCH. Sure Lila has them convinced that she’s a diplomats daughter and that shes got a million illnesses and physical problems and yes she even has everyone believing that she’s famous and that her and Adrien are a secret item [how scandalous!]. But no one in the class will for a SECOND believe that Marinette is working with Hawkmoth. Lila has tried broaching the subject several times, shes tried leaving ‘hints’ and pointing things out that seem ‘incriminating’ but each and every time she does the class scoff and each of them begin listing a 100 reasons why Marinette is definitely NOT a fan of Hawkmoth and would never work with him.
Frustrated but determined to connect the super villain to Marinette and alienate the girl further Lila seethes and plots. Getting more frustrated each failed attempt and trying to chew off her own sausage hair when people talk about how Marinette would definitely kick Hawkmoth’s ass. Then one day Marinette walks in with a totally new look, she’s cut her hair into a messy pixie cut and is going for a pink punk look. The look gets everyone's attention and the day is spent with everyone complimenting the baker girl [she even gets asked out by a few of the guys in the other classes] frustrated that everyone is paying attention to Marinette instead of herself Lila cant help but make up some big lie about how Marinette assaulted her and stole her money.
The class is justifiably shocked! They have been especially protective of Marinette and her reputation ever since she was expelled and nearly akumatized so more then a few of them start yelling at Lila even Alya who normally sides with Lila due to her belief that her designer friend is jealous is furious at Lila for making an accusation like that! Desperate to recover from the poorly timed and worded lie she’s made Lila thinks fast and comes up with a scheme just crazy enough to work! She claims that obviously it wasn’t ACTUALLY Marinette, no it was the horrible akuma MARIONETTE! The class blinks taken aback but they can’t help but ask what Lila is talking about.
The italian smirks feeling sinister pleasure course through her. She begins weaving her sob story tale! About how Marinette had snuck into one of Adrien and Lila’s photoshoots! Where the poor baker girl saw them *gasp* KISSING! Poor Marinette heartbroken and distraught was akumatized into the horrible monster Marionette! Who stalked Lila home and attacked her! She goes on to claim that the Marinette who was in class today was NOT in fact their good friend rocking a new style and haircut but was instead a vicious akuma after all why do you think Lila was keeping so far away from Marinette all day? She’s TRAUMATIZED after her ordeal and now Marionette the akuma is attending class as if she were Marinette! How terrible could Hawkmoth be to be using their heartbroken friend like this!
The class doesn’t want to believe it, but it makes such perfect sense Marinette WOULD be heartbroken by seeing Adrien the ‘love of her life’ kissing Lila her main rival! And just yesterday Marinette looked completely normal with her cute little pigtails and her signature outfit! She never told any of them she was even GOING to get a haircut! And surely if Marinette was going to make such a big change in her appearance she would have told her bestie Alya right?
But now what is the class to do? Poor Marinette is akumatized and they have no idea what to do or what her object could possibly be! Max, always the logical one concludes that they should simply contact Ladybug and have her help poor Marinette! Lila quickly jumps in claiming she already tried contacting Ladybug OBVIOUSLY since the pair are besties! But that Marionette tricked Ladybug into believing she wasn’t akumatized at all! “No!” Lila laments, “were going to need to take care of this ourselves!”
The class is resolute determined to help poor Marinette without the help of Ladybug who has fallen for Hawkmoth’s most clever trick yet. But Lila is quick to warn them that they MUST be careful after all Marionette is a VERY powerful akuma, they cant know for sure the true extent of her terrible powers or when or WHO she might attack next! Lila fears that it will be poor Adrien or perhaps herself again! Insert fake sobs here. The class vow to protect Lila and Adrien from Marionette, and Alya who believes she’s best equipped for this situation since she IS Rena Rouge takes charge of the situation, they decide that no one is allowed to be alone with Marionette and NONE of them are to let the akuma know that they are on to her! They need to play the long game and figure out what her akumatized object is so that they can snatch it and free Marinette from Hawkmoth’s dastardly clutches!
Lila rejoices believing that she’s finally achieved victory, the class now think that Marinette is a dangerous monster and will isolate her, not to mention Lila now believes she can make up any lie she wants about Marinette and that the class will unquestioningly believe her! She goes home with a pep in her step eagerly plotting for all the lies and perks she can get from this newest lie and decides to eat a whole tub of ice cream to celebrate her cleverness, unaware that she’s just signed the ticket for her defeat.
You see the class LOVE Marinette, she’s their friend, and ‘learning’ that she’s been turned into some sort of monstrous extremely clever akuma is both a suprise and none at all. Later on as they all chat in the newly made text group Max points out how it was obvious that Marinette would become the most dangerous and clever akuma shes the smartest person in class besides himself and extremely creative and resourceful. Rose laments about how hurt Marinette must be and how they simply MUST save her as soon as possible. Alix curses Hawkmoth out and claims that the sick freak was probably TARGETING Marinette for awhile now because of how awesome she is. Nino and Kim cry about how their childhood bff needs them now more then ever! And Alya tells them to get ready because they cant abandon Marinette now that she needs them most!
The next day Lila comes to class ready to spin another tale about how the vicious akuma Marionette destroyed her room last night! And while the class do listen and tell Lila that it sucks that happened they seem noticeably... Distracted. When Marinette walks into the room the class practically explodes, Rose and Juleka INSIST that Marinette sit behind them so they can talk! Everyone has some sweet compliment to give to the baker reminding her about how wonderful she is! Lila’s jaw drops open as her classmates practically rush to hug and touch and talk to what they believe is a horrible monstrous Akuma! And it doesnt end their.
Lila asks Alya to hang out at the mall? She cant her and Nino are going to be on ‘Marionette’ surveillance tracking the akuma to see what shes up to and if she might show her akumatized object! Lila decides to try woo Mylene and Ivan into letting her handle their charities ‘finances’? Mylene starts crying about how the charity was Marinette’s idea before she got akumatized and now she might not even remember how amazing it was when shes eventually de-akumatized Lila cant stand hearing them talk about her enemy and gives up her pursuit of the funds. Lila decides to hang out with Kitty Section? They invited Marionette to every show hoping Luka would notice that she’s an akuma and use his amazing intuition to help free poor poor Marinette!
Instead of ostracizing the girl Marinette is now invited to every big event, and is constantly being showered with compliments and love as if the class believes that just loving Marinette enough will be the thing that ‘de-akumatizes’ her. “At least they wont let her anywhere near myself or Adrien.” Lila thinks bitterly as she gets her 5th warning that day that Lila might want to sit out the class going to the movies together with MARIONETTE.
During this time the class has been pulling off various ‘heists’ slowly going through each and every one of Marinette’s belongings to check if its the akumatized object. And I do mean every single belonging. Her sketchbook was ruled out within the first few days same with her signature earrings it was Kim who checked those and it involved a complicated plan involving taking Marinette swimming and having Kim fake a drowning in order to get close enough to ‘Marionette’ to check the studs. Luckily for Tikki, Ondine who was also at the pool decided to save Kim instead and the poor jock got quite flustered when the swimmer performed CPR on him.
Nino and the rest of the boys are the ones tasked with breaking into Marinette’s room while the girl is away on a sleepover with the girls. In order to ‘test’ each object in her room for the source of the akuma. They got a bit too loud and had to make a last minute escape when they heard Tom and Sabine going into fight mode. Poor Nino wasn’t fast enough and was forced to lie through his teeth that he’d been trying to surprise Marinette with a hangout like when they were little kids. [poor kid ended up drinking hot cocoa with Tom and Sabine as they showed off embarrassing baby pictures of Nino and Marinette together]
After about a month or so of shenanigans including a very embarrassing incident involving the entire class accidentally spying on Marinette’s first big date with Luka/Kagami/Felix/Damian [just pick one they are all great ships] and them getting caught red handed thanks to Alix and Kim roughhousing and making a scene at the nice restaurant. And another incident that Alya refers to only as the ‘duck incident’ [Nino can no longer be around birds or feathers] the class is no closer to learning where Marionette’s akumatized object is. And Lila Rossi who thought she’d be bathing in her victory is on the verge of screaming if one more person ignores her!
How does it end? Well maybe the class stage an intervention hoping they can free Marinette with the power of love only for Marinette to fall off of something laughing when she learns what Lila’s big lie was. Maybe Lila finally snaps and screams when she hears the class lament about POOR Marinette for the billionth time. Maybe the class try breaking absolutely everything Marinette owns, Maybe Juleka points out that its kind of weird that Marionette the akuma doesn’t really do... anything? And can change clothes? Can akuma’s do that? No right??? Aren’t their clothes like melded to their body??? Maybe the class finally get Adrien thinking he can ‘fix’ Marinette only for him to very confusedly tell them hes not dating Lila and has never kissed her and what Marinette akumatized??? Maybe The class recruit Luka and Kagami, Marinette’s other friends only for them to have a great laugh at the class before pointing out the literal mountain of things wrong with everything they just said.
Just fun shenanigans and ‘akumatized’ Marinette.

*rubs hands together*
The first thing to talk about with this episode is the pacing, and I think this might contribute to why people think it’s the best/least bad of Season 4 (personally, I’d rather watch “Furious Fu” but that’s just me; also, this isn’t the only contributing factor as to why I think people might feel this way, but I’ll get there later).
The episode has a very serious pacing issue, particularly with its more intense scenes. There’s only one minute of time dedicated to Ladybug landing on her bed, de-transforming, and her snapping at her friends plus them leaving. More time was spent on Chat Noir and Ladybug in the movie theater and Ladybug storming out.
I particularly remember watching the episode and getting eighteen minutes in, at which point I had the realization of, “It feels like nothing’s happened?”
This episode is supposed to be a big gut punch, but the season has been going by at the speed of sound, like they’re trying desperately to play all their cards at once (Lukanette break-up, Adrimi break-up, then Alya is told Marinette’s secret identity). Instead of letting things build and play out for a while in the interest of suspense, the show just throws whatever will get a big reaction out of the fandom (whether positive or negative) and it doesn’t care how shoddily put together everything is. The first two episodes feel like hastily put together drafts, and while this one is technically more put together, it still feels like a draft.
Let’s just start with Chat Noir, who feels completely out of place in the episode. Not only does he imply that he intentionally calls Ladybug “Bugaboo” (which she has told him to stop doing) in order to get a reaction out of her, but when Ladybug insists that she doesn’t want to talk, he tricks her into thinking that he has a good location to do so (and my heart breaks a little at how readily she trusts him) only to then take her to a romantic movie, then shush her when she calls him out for it because she “said she didn’t want to talk.”
Gee, and people wonder why she didn’t tell him her secret (even outside of “Chat Blanc” existing)?
And... look, I know it’s a joke, but I do not find it funny. The “joke” is basically that Chat Noir is taking advantage of the situation to flirt with Ladybug, and though I find it at least mildly cathartic that Ladybug is unaffected by all the people staring at them while Chat Noir is embarrassed, this episode is coming right after the one where Kagami broke up with Adrien, and here Chat Noir is getting his flirt game on. I already talked about all my problems with “Lies” so I won’t do it again, but I’ll just say that it’s not a mystery why Ladybug doesn’t want to talk to him and would rather avoid her problems.
(Not to mention that Ladybug knows that Chat Noir likes her, so talking about her romantic problems with him is awkward to say the least and would come off as insensitive.)
Honestly, at this point I feel like they must be building to something with Chat, like Ladybug finally going off of him with no mercy and that forces him to give up/fall out of love for her because reverse love square, but if that’s what they intend to go for, then that means Marinette is going to fall for this guy who’s repeatedly disrespected her feelings for multiple seasons, almost abandoned her and let Paris drown because she wouldn’t tell him a secret that wasn’t hers to tell, and just generally all the other things he did????
Ugh, I don’t wanna think about it. Let’s just move on.
Talking about Ladybug and her rant next, it basically summarizes the whole show in a nutshell, but simultaneously casts a shadow of sorts over “Truth” for people who maybe missed the episode entirely (which is also sort of the show in a nutshell). I mean, Ladybug confirming to the audience that she was genuinely in love and happy with Luka (you can’t watch how depressed she was over the break-up and not think that) was great, but Ladybug’s dialog implies that Luka “hated secrets” and that’s why they broke up, when Luka was more just... hurt that she couldn’t be honest with him, and he didn’t actively hate secrets. Marinette broke up with him because she felt like she had to; because she had to keep ditching and lie to him.
In addition, what she says also hints to the audience that they’ve both held and kissed each other, which not only indicates cowardice on the part of the staff (”yeah this happened but--um--off-screen; we’d still like credit tho plz”), but may perhaps go back to the theory I had about how Adrimi and Lukanette were supposed to last longer in Season 4 but their arcs got cut (based on the Adrimi kiss having supposed to have gone off). This could mean that Ladybug’s statement was originally accurate to canon but the scenes got cut and the scriptwriters just awkwardly left it in, which is made more awkward by the cinema scene in “Truth” that felt like Luka and Marinette were kissing for the first time (again, alluding to the whole, “this entire season has been a draft” thing).
Also, if you think about what that actually means - that Luka and Marinette did have successful dates and kisses but they were off-screen - then all it adds up to is that showing Marinette happy and comfortable was something that the series didn’t deem as “interesting/fun enough” to show, because Marinette being happy isn’t something they want to see; only watching her be miserable, which is exactly what Ladybug says, along with how everything was “almost too simple, too easy,” because Marinette isn’t allowed to have nice things without being jammed through the wringer first.
And... sure, let’s say that Chat Noir thought the movie was genuinely a good idea; let’s assume that it could be a joke, him wanting to flirt, and him believing that it’d make her feel better somehow.
If that’s the case, then where’s the apology when it fails miserably? Ladybug goes from her semi-anxious state at the start of the episode (a little scatterbrained but ultimately just looking for a distraction), to outright enraged by the movie, and then to this upon leaving the cinema.
She just got her heart broken from being forced to break up with a boy she genuinely wanted to be with and there’s not a single, “Okay, maybe coming here was a bad idea, I’m sorry,” (which could’ve been seen as another joke with the audience like “lol no duh Chat Noir” so there’s no excuse not to have it) or, “My bad, that was insensitive of me. I really thought this would’ve helped but I wasn’t thinking about what you would’ve wanted.”
No. The only people Chat apologizes to are the other people at the theater because he’s embarrassed by Ladybug’s reactions, yet he himself feels no remorse for taking her there and has the gall to go on now about how he’s “there for her if she wants to talk.”
Again, it’s no wonder Ladybug doesn’t want to open up to him.
And I’m sorry, I just don’t buy that Marinette suddenly has all this free time. It’s one thing for her to have a little more time now that she’s broken up with her boyfriend (likely avoiding spending time with him altogether now), but “Truth” went out of its way to talk about all of the emergencies she had to deal with and how she doesn’t have any spare time. which is causing her to become forgetful and lose track of certain events (patrols with Chat, dates with Luka, etcetera), yet Marinette spends most of “Gang of Secrets” simply sulking on her bed. It’s so jarring to go from “Truth” where she was doing “too much” (which I called them out on for not describing what the “too much” she was doing was) and now “Gang of Secrets” where she’s not doing anything.
It’s almost like they invented that plot point to break Lukanette up and it served no purpose outside of it.
Furthermore, the scenes of her finally talking to Tikki and then deciding to live as Ladybug does nothing outside of making the plot more predictable, the latter because of the “Alya almost sees Ladybug” moment (an obvious indicator that Marinette is losing control and is struggling to maintain her secret identity due to her emotionally breaking down) and the former because of Tikki herself and what she doesn’t say.
Because, really, think about what actually goes on in the scene. Marinette (eyes rimmed red and filled with unshed tears, as she is for a good chunk of the episode) is venting to Tikki about - yes - her love life, but also that she has to lie to everyone in order to keep her identity a secret. The fact that Tikki focuses solely on the note of Marinette’s love life and not say a word about the identity/lying issue or even consider telling Marinette, “hey, this is clearly too much for you, you should tell someone, I think the benefits outweigh the risks right now,” really proves that the episode tried to avoid the topic altogether to try and make the ending more shocking (which ironically made it more predictable).
So yeah, not only does Tikki’s dialog with Marinette provide nothing except for a line about how she can’t help Marinette with love issues due to kwami not falling in love (alright, I guess aros can’t give good love advice then or have any input whatsoever), but Marinette’s line about lying to everyone being why she can’t pursue Adrien nor Luka is repeated in the very last scene of the episode. The only reason that scene and the scene after exist is because the writers needed Marinette to be emotionally devastated enough to leave for her balcony as Ladybug for the almost-reveal to Alya and so Rose would get close enough to the dollhouse to have an almost-reveal with the Miracle Box, making the scene feel further contrived because the emotional punch of Marinette wanting to live as Ladybug lasts for barely any time at all.
And it could’ve served a purpose, like if Ladybug had genuinely left and Alya finds her goggles and towel, recognizing them from a news story about how Ladybug had gone to the swimming pool after losing her temper at the cinema, which could’ve led to Shadow Moth making the girls believe that Ladybug was no longer heroic and had kidnapped Marinette, or... heck, Ladybug coming back inside would’ve been so much less jarring if she came back because she heard the girls’ voices talking about the dollhouse and had to hurry (but of course, then they’d have to point out the ridiculousness of Ladybug not hearing Alya calling her and the girls not hearing Ladybug literally shouting for Shadow Moth to come fight her, even though the kwami heard the girls calling for Marinette from the balcony).
But instead, the entire scene feels off and unnatural, forcing every part of it in order to get to where Marinette has to snap at the girls to make them leave.
(Oh, by the way, just a little detail to add to the annoyance: they bothered putting Tom and Sabine in the episode when the girls are leaving, clearly saddened by something that happened, and neither parent even bothers to go and check on Marinette to see if she’s upset or just to see what might’ve happened. They’re such a “blink-and-you’ll-miss it” moment in the episode and it’s not like I’m surprised because they’ve done this multiple times by now but really?)
As for the girls themselves... oof, where do I even begin?
Alright, first off is the annoyance that they assume Marinette’s problems relate only to lovesickness. Marinette has been an anxiety-prone mess throughout the entire series, and suddenly now the girls care about Marinette’s love problems on an emotional level rather than “we’ll meddle sometimes unless we don’t feel like it and be wholly inconsistent on how much we push for it.”? It’s not that I don’t see how they came to the conclusion (hearing that Luka and Marinette broke up and now seeing Marinette is depressed, it checks out), but considering they bothered noting that Marinette hadn’t told them anything, one would think they’d come to the conclusion of, “okay, we haven’t talked to her, we have no idea of what’s going on, maybe we don’t know her as well as we thought then and shouldn’t make guesses.”
Secondly is the “eternal friendship bracelet,” which comes off as a copy of the “Secrets” game from “Syren” extremely manipulative. Mylene goes on to explain that one is supposed to give a secret to the pearl “mentally,” yet when the girls actually show up to see Marinette, they expect to be told the secret directly. I’ve already talked at length about peer pressure and the mental stress Marinette goes through when they mock her and/or meddle for her, but this idea of, “well we all used this friendship bracelet after we mutually agreed to it so now it’s your turn because we said so!” just comes off really bad. I know the episode is going for this idea that their hearts are in the right place, but they’re really not. It feels like they’re the ones in denial and are trying to compensate by forcing Marinette to prove that they’re friends, unable to handle the idea that they might not be as close to her as they thought.
Thirdly, the show acts as if the girl squad are her only friends when we know that’s not true because we’ve seen episodes like “Befana” (the guys in the class), “Reverser” (Marc), “Ikari Gozen” (Kagami), and “Silencer” (Ivan) that all established Marinette having more friends than just them, but for the sake of “drama” and the depressing line of, “at least I don’t have any more friends to lie to,” the episode just pretends like Marinette’s friends are limited to Luka (who she had to break up with) and the girl squad (who she forced to leave and refuse the friendship of).
Fourthly is the actual set-up and the sheer grossness of it all. The girls call Marinette and leave a message about how they much they love her and how she can talk to them “where and when” she wants, and then - immediately afterwards - decide that they’re going to go straight to Marinette’s house completely unannounced, go into her room completely unannounced (not even knocking, by the way), and when Marinette begs them to leave, Alya basically tells her that she’s overreacting. When Marinette demands that they leave, Alya refuses and makes demands right back that they won’t leave until she tells them what’s wrong.
So much for “where and when” she wanted, right? It’s already one thing for the girls to invade Marinette’s privacy and demand/guilt-trip answers out of her, but it’s another thing to give the illusion of respecting her feelings and personal space only to actively plan to go back on it. I can’t tell if it’s a bad draft that they didn’t catch in quality check (you know, the quality check that they definitely don’t have) or just an intentional way to make them seem more sympathetic so Marinette looks worse for driving them out, but either way, it’s awful and I hate it. I would’ve rather had them be all in on invading Marinette’s privacy and learn a lesson in the end than outright contradict themselves.
There are also little nitpicks I could make (like Juleka’s constant mumbling despite Luka’s crush on Marinette playing a role in the episode, Horrificator getting sidelined due to being mute, and the girls’ akumatization ultimately being for spectacle and nothing else, serving no purpose to the plot and being furthered by the fact that Timebreaker goes after Marinette despite it being a bad idea and Reflekta’s power clearly not lining up with any sort of plan), but the real issue issue here comes down to the fact that these are Marinette’s so-called “friends” and the episode refuses to address their actual issues.
Alix, who is known for making rude comments at Marinette (”Gigantitan,” “Chat Blanc,” “Miraculous New York”) and then gives mixed messages by going along with meddling anyway.
Mylene, who is the closest thing to a background character in the girl squad but nevertheless finds her way into being definite voice against Marinette in “Chameleon.”
Juleka, who blamed Marinette for things she didn’t do in “Reflekdoll” and got huffy with her until Marinette apologized for said things.
Rose, who outright screamed at Marinette in “Chat Blanc” over a freaking stuffed animal, which pressured Marinette enough that she snuck into Adrien’s room to deliver her gift which nearly led to the end of the world.
And, of course, Alya; freaking Alya. I don’t even have to go into every single thing she’s ever done because I have a history of giving her absolutely no mercy.
...But let’s go through some anyway because I want to.
“Copycat” - Alya gives Marinette a script and tells her to memorize it, then immediately pushes the “call” button when Marinette hesitates after Marinette had just told Alya that she’s awful at improv.
“Darkblade” - Alya takes a jab at Marinette when Marinette says that she’s too busy to be class representative, implying that Alya thinks that Marinette does absolutely nothing with her time.
“Gamer” - Alya is busy recording the gaming competition when she and Marinette were supposed to be researching for a term paper. Alya then scolds Marinette for wanting to use the competition to get close to Adrien only to do a 180 and put up a fight about it when Marinette decides to quit.
“Animan” and how “The Puppeteer 2″ follows up on it - oh, I’m not going to touch that particular point right now, but keep those in the back of your mind, because I am going to absolutely go off later
“Simon Says” - Similarly to Marinette’s parents, Alya gives zero damns about whatever might be going on in Marinette’s life that's causing her to miss classes.
"Despair Bear” - Alya laughs at Marinette being forced to kiss Chloe’s cheek and then outright compares Marinette to Chloe after knocking Chloe multiple times during the episode (sure, just compare your “best friend” to her multi-year bully, how "hilarious” of you).
“Gigantitan” - Alya has no qualms about mocking Marinette’s over her failures, even if it embarrasses her and she’s been through enough already.
“Frozer” - Alya tries to find ways for Marinette to prevent herself from third-wheeling for Adrien, but when Marinette tries to show character growth by wanting to go, Alya gets into a shouting match with the other girls over how Marinette has “liked Adrien forever and isn’t going to give up now”.
“Catalyst” - Alya claims that Marinette is only salty over Lila out of jealousy when “Frozer” exists and literally is the prime evidence of Adrien liking another girl and Marinette telling Alya outright and very genuinely that she’s not jealous.
“Chameleon” - Alya doesn’t care about her best friend sitting in the back by herself while Alya herself get to sit next to her boyfriend and everyone else in general gets to sit where they want (Alya even acting confused at the mere suggestion that she’d tried to engineer things to let Marinette sit next to Adrien), then not only believes Lila over Marinette but contradicts herself twice (asking Marinette for proof when she has none herself, then claiming that she wouldn’t let her best friend sit by herself).
“Christmaster” - Alya leaves Marinette to babysit so she and Nino can go out on a date.
“Desperada” - Alya suddenly is for Lukanette for literally one episode and doesn’t know how/doesn’t even try to cover for Marinette’s Adrien blindness despite mocking her for multiple seasons over it.
“Reflekdoll” - Alya invites Adrien to something that’s crucial for Marinette to focus on after Marinette has already told her not to and continues meddling to the point where it gets Juleka akumatized (she also doesn’t get punished for it and the blame gets thrown onto Marinette).
“The Puppeteer 2″ - Alya pushes her luck with Nathalie to try and get Marinette to come with her, Nino, Adrien, and Manon to the museum, then traps Marinette in a room with Adrien to force her to spent alone time with him, even abandoning and forgetting about the child that she offered to watch for Marinette so she and her boyfriend can go off alone.
“Miraculous New York” - Alya is told directly by Marinette that she needs help seeing Adrien as a friend, which leads Alya to do the exact opposite throughout the entire special, at one point shouting at Marinette and pressuring her to chase after a car, in the rain, while there’s a supervillain rampaging through Paris, and all of this right after the scheme that Alya had set up caused both Marinette and Adrien to go missing.
And just saying, as Marinette’s supposed “best friend,” Alya sure doesn’t know how to handle her. It was acceptable back in “The Bubbler” when she asked Marinette about signing the gift too late and the same goes for “Dark Cupid,” but by the time we get to late Season 2/3 and Alya refuses to learn Marinette’s weak spots (unless it’s to mock her) and adjust accordingly (like if she’d already made sure the gift was signed in “Chat Blanc,” which would’ve prevented Adrien seeing Ladybug at all due to the time difference), it starts getting infuriating.
A best friend is supposed to cover for their friend’s weaknesses. Alya doesn’t do that; she meddles and often drives Marinette’s anxiety even further up a wall with absolutely no consideration for Marinette’s feelings (”Dark Cupid,” “The Puppeteer 2,” “Reflekdoll,” “Miraculous New York”).
And here, she and the other girls are rewarded for it. Luka actively resisted his akumatization whereas the girls gave in immediately, yet Marinette still opens up to them in the end, likely because they had pressured her and made her feel bad for the secrets she was keeping while Luka was willing to actually wait for her to be ready to talk to him. I can’t put into words how frustrating it is watching these girls trample all over Marinette’s feelings, not have their worst actions called out, and then jump cut post-deakumatization to Marinette telling them exactly what they wanted to know about her love life.
You know what this entire episode is really missing, outside of a coherent plot, properly-paced development, and a basic understanding of rewarding a character for things they’ve held firmly to?
It’s missing the apology. Chat Noir apologizes to a bunch of moviegoers and Rose apologizes for the broken dollhouse, but no one apologizes to Marinette for how they treated her, especially not the “friends” who got rewarded in the end.
“Sorry, we shouldn’t have told you that we’d respect your feelings and then showed up unannounced to make you talk about them.”
“We’re sorry we came into your room and invaded your privacy. You were right to be mad at us.”
“Oh my gosh, Marinette, we got akumatized and we’re so sorry for literally all five of us going after you and probably scaring the living daylights out of you.”
And as if that wasn’t enough, guess what else this is missing? It’s kind of important and brought up directly in the episode, yet the episode simultaneously goes out of its way not to bring it up again.
It’s the reason why Marinette didn’t tell the girls about her relationship with Luka. It’s not there - it’s missing - and the girls never try to pursue the subject. They talk about how Marinette didn’t tell them but don’t think for a second that maybe it’s them who have failed as friends. Instead, they don’t guess anything about why Marinette wouldn’t tell them (which is already strange considering how much they already assume about her) and jump straight to, “well clearly we just need to push for her to talk to us.”
Gonna just go out on a limb here and say that maybe - just maybe - Marinette didn’t tell them because they are habitually pushy in everything they do.
Because they would’ve teased her relentlessly about, “ohhhh you’ve got eyes for Luka? what about Aaaaaadrien~? aren’t you sooo tooorn between both of these cute guys?”
Because they would’ve meddled to force her and Luka together and gotten on her case when/if she ever had to bail on him.
Because their intrusion on her feelings for Adrien had caused her nothing but problems and she just wanted to be with Luka in peace without them forcing their way into things.
Because--hey, wild thought--maybe they’re not really friends???
But the episode completely avoids it, because that would’ve meant addressing it; it would’ve meant acknowledging that they messed up, which - fun fact - they actually don’t do in the episode.
They invaded Marinette’s privacy, insisted that she tell them how she feels (not about them of course because that would imply that they felt like they screwed up), and in the end it’s Marinette who gives them exactly what they asked of her, and the closest thing we get to acknowledging anything is Alix telling her/joking with her that they’ll help her confess to whoever she likes as soon as she tells them she’s ready.
That’s not an apology. That’s not an acknowledgment of wrongdoing. Even when the five of them are about to get akumatized, it’s not a circle of them saying, “here’s how I screwed up, I could’ve done better but I didn’t and I lost Marinette because of it.”
No. It’s just them talking about how sad the situation is. Mylene has the closest thing to remorse in saying, “I hoped it would work,” but where does it go? A grand total of nowhere, especially because Marinette still takes the bracelet in the end instead of the girls mutually deciding, “okay, maybe the bracelet was a bad idea; how about we all agree on making something together instead, no requirements attached?”
And then the episode has the gall to act as if Alya has gone through character growth when all they did was put Alya through the same thing that Chloe did. I’ll explain that last bit momentarily, but first let’s talk about the whole “growth” thing.
Because there’s no apology or acknowledgement of wrongdoing, all Alya does when she’s finally alone with Marinette is do a 180 from where she was at the start of the episode, going from, “friends have to tell each other everything,” to, “hey, if you don’t want to tell me, then that’s your right.”
The crucial part that’s supposed to go in the middle is missing. Instead of acknowledging her failures, Alya just cuts straight to “””being a better friend,”““ but storytelling doesn’t work that way.
It literally would have taken zero effort to fit an acknowledgement into that scene. “You don’t have to tell me everything, I get that now. All my meddling’s done is hurt you and I’m so sorry. I wouldn’t blame you if you didn’t trust me.”
In a world where Marinette has to apologize for everything, has to learn lessons and suffer because the narrative says so, I will not accept anything less from other characters who are trying to develop and improve. That’s not fair to Marinette, nor has it ever been.
Instead of properly developing Alya, the show does whatever it can to get its audience to root for her as Marinette’s “best friend” (ugh) without having to put in the effort of admitting that Alya hasn’t been Marinette’s “best” friend.
Remember when I brought up Chloe? Yeah, “Malediktator” did a similar thing, showing Chloe doing something awful, then being sad (while not actually acknowledging the thing she did wrong), and in the end she was rewarded with a miraculous prematurely.
One show of character from Chloe and Marinette gave her a miraculous. One show of character from Alya and Marinette told her that she was Ladybug.
(Also, for the record, I think Chloe is far worse than Alya character-wise and I’m not comparing their characters; this is just the simplest comparison I can draw here from a narrative standpoint.)
“Miraculer” is another apt comparison, perhaps even more so. Chloe got Hawk Moth in her head after an akuma landed in her photo of her and Ladybug, but Chloe resisted and fought back, ultimately forcing the akuma out of her and freeing herself from Hawk Moth’s control.
But it wasn’t to develop her character; no, it was to convince the audience of Chloe and Sabrina’s friendship so they’d feel something during Sabrina’s happy flashbacks, then lay the foundation of tricking viewers into believing that Chloe might not go to Hawk Moth’s side.
At the end of the day, it was doing something that’s “never been done before” in order for the character to earn brownie points for something that the writers can just have them do because willpower is an easy thing to just write in. “Gang of Secrets” does the exact same thing when Lady Wifi breaks free from Shadow Moth, with Ladybug even hammering it home by talking about how no one’s ever done it before.
And the pacing is - again - awful. Not only is Ladybug banking on this working when she herself says that it’s never been done, but the conversation between her and Lady Wifi where Ladybug tries to convince her doesn’t even take a minute.
It also has nothing to do with Marinette herself; Ladybug relies on Alya’s adoration/friendship with her as Ladybug (you know, after Alya took a photo of LadyNoir kissing and posted it online without Ladybug’s consent, betrayed her by putting information on the LadyBlog that Hawk Moth was able to take advantage of, and is the only hero outside of Chloe to resist returning a miraculous) in order to break from Hawk Moth’s control, because talking about Marinette with Lady Wifi didn’t even work.
(Ladybug also uses her yoyo as a portal to the Miracle Box when this has never been pre-established to be a thing despite Ladybug acting as if she knew it was; further proof that this episode was rushed.)
And of course talking about Marinette didn’t work, because that would’ve meant convincing Alya that her reason for getting akumatized was “wrong” and the episode didn’t want to do that. It didn’t want someone else actually learning something and feeling bad; surely, this is just Alya being manipulated by Shadow Moth and having the power to break free because Ladybug “needs Rena Rouge” and not because Lady Wifi and her friends are chasing after their supposed best friend and that’s--you know--wrong???
Rena Rouge’s reappearance is also yet another thing the episode refuses to address because it avoids the topic of “but my identity--”. At least “Heart Hunter” had the tact to have Kagami question why Ladybug was giving her the dragon again, but “Gang of Secrets” treads as lightly as possible on any discussion of identities outside of Marinette saying that she can’t, as if it were Marinette who made the choice of concealing her identity and not the basic idea of heroing that has been stressed over and over for the whole show.
Even Plagg of all kwami stated back in “Origins” that no one is supposed to know about secret identities, a rule that continues becoming flaky and muddled with each passing season, almost like they kept attempting to retcon and make the audience dulled to the idea so that the reveal in “Gang of Secrets” would be more acceptable.
But now, with the way they did it and how they don’t even have Tikki comment on the matter, it once again has it look like they’re making it - say it with me, everyone - Marinette’s fault.
Alya says that Marinette has a choice in telling her secret, Marinette insists that she doesn’t and goes on and on about how it’ll change everything, and then just... tells Alya her secret in the end.
And remember all the way back in Season 2? “Sapotis”?
Alya: What were you saying about her secret identity?
Marinette: Ladybug needs it to protect her family and friends. Otherwise the villains could use them to get to her.
Alya: Well, if I knew who Ladybug really was, I'd keep it a secret. I would even help her! Like say, if you were Ladybug, I'd cover for you — when you needed to transform in school, go fight the "baddies", you know?
Marinette: Oh yeah? Well, if I was Ladybug I wouldn't even tell you, to protect you from the "baddies", you know?
Alya: You serious? If I was Ladybug, I'd totally tell you! Because I tell my best friend everything.
And now here we are in “Gang of Secrets,” as if the narrative is saying, “See, Marinette? Alya was right all along, you were just being ridiculous and making yourself suffer for no reason!”
Yet Marinette had a right to keep her secrets. When Alya and Nino learned each other’s identities, Alya took a hit for Nino in “Catalyst” and both of them fell to Scarlet Moth’s akumas. Chloe was a mess and a half because of Hawk Moth knowing her identity. Fu had told Marinette that her miraculous would get taken if she and Chat Noir learned each other’s identities.
The only ones who received no consequences due to someone knowing their identity were Pegase (who Chat Noir and Markov knew), Ryuko (who Chat Noir, Ikari Gozen, and Hawk Moth knew), and Viperion (who Adrien knew). “Chat Blanc” also exists where Marinette got the impression that people discovering her identity would be a disaster, and even all the way back in “Lady Wifi” insisted that not telling anyone her identity was “listening to her head and not her heart,” and the narrative has relentlessly humiliated her for going with her heart, so yeah, probably for the best.
I hate that the episode avoids talking about anything identity-related outside of what comes out of Marinette’s mouth to make it appear like it was her choice all along. I hate that they had Tikki fixate on Marinette’s love problems instead of having her actually support Marinette and admit that Marinette should tell someone before she has a mental breakdown. I hate that the episode inserts Rena Rouge into the plot as if to brush all identity issues away so as to make Marinette’s identity reveal seem less jarring.
Now, of course I’m glad Marinette told someone. Of course I want her to get love and support from someone. Of course I think the benefits outweigh the risks, or I wouldn’t have written multiple fix-its where her identity gets revealed in some way or someone already knows.
But I didn’t want it to be Alya, because I knew how they’d do it. I knew they’d do it wrong and I knew that they wouldn’t have the courage to address Alya’s issues properly.
Those familiar with my blog will know that I’d been taking negative predictions for future seasons for a while and adding them to cards whenever they were proven right. Does anyone remember the Season 4 predictions that were proven correct for “Gang of Secrets,” specifically these ones?
- “Alya will suddenly be portrayed as a good/worthy friend to Marinette in/if there's an episode where Marinette tells her that she's Ladybug”
- “Alya resisting Shadow Moth/fighting back against him will be used to excuse telling Alya Marinette's secret identity“
- “Alya will know that Marinette is Ladybug first because "BFFs" despite being one of the worst candidates for it“
- “The secret that broke Lukanette up will be resolved in episode 3 when Marinette tells Alya“
Each and every one of those were mine, because I knew that whether Season 4 had a proper chronological order or not, the writers would not have the guts to develop Alya first and then have Marinette tell her in a future episode after Alya has properly earned it.
I knew that they wouldn’t take time to develop Alya. I knew that they would have Alya resist Shadow Moth to make Alya look “worthy” of the secret. I knew that Alya would swoop in during the last minute and a half of an episode, insisting that Marinette “didn’t have to tell her anything” when Alya had been pushy and insistent for the entire rest of the episode and the whole series in general, and would ultimately be rewarded with the big secret simply because she’s “the best friend” and that’s it.
The Alya at the end of the episode isn’t the Alya I’ve known for the entire rest of the series before this, or at the very least they turned her into an Alya I don’t recognize.
Alya claims during the ending scene that she knows that Marinette is hiding something beyond her love problems because she - as a reporter and “her best friend” - can sense such things, and all I’m left wondering is
w h e r e ?
Where and when has Alya been suspicious or worried about Marinette keeping a secret from her? What, back in “The Pharoah” where she didn’t immediately disregard Marinette for the role of Ladybug, or “Simon Says” where she vaguely teased Marinette about having a double life, both Season 1 episodes?
Where was Alya in “Truth” saying that she didn’t know Marinette’s secret but knew that she was keeping one? Where was Alya anywhere in Season 3 being concerned that Marinette hasn’t told her something? Where was this “supposedly very observant” Alya when Marinette needed her to out Lila because Lila got her expelled--oh wait, Alya “observed” that Lila did nothing and Marinette was just jealous.
What, is it only now that Alya suddenly “knows” that Marinette is hiding something else? Now, after Alya has already not known that Marinette was literally dating someone, even when Alya had multiples pictures of Marinette and said someone giving each other heart eyes and saw Marinette leaving school with said someone riding on the same bike together, you know, like normal, typical, average friends would?
Where’s the line where Alya acknowledges the problem? Where’s Alya sitting down with Marinette and admitting, “hey, I’m sorry I haven’t noticed this stuff, but I promise I’ll do better starting right now, and that’s how I know now that you’re hiding something else, and I’m sorry it took me so long to realize that it’s been hurting you”?
I can’t tell you where it is, but I can say that it’s certainly not in this episode. 60% of the episode features the Alya we knew from the rest of the series and then switches her out the second she’s de-akumatized for another Alya who hasn’t done anything that the old one has because she pretends like it didn’t happen.
You know how I know? Because of this absolute gut punch of a line that showed that the series wanted to handwave everything away.
“I know how to keep a secret.”
...Really? Does she now? Well, I hope everyone remembered my point about “Animan” and “The Puppeteer 2,” because I’m bringing it right back.
Considering that “Truth” has been burned into all of our memories, we all definitely remember when Truth shoots Alya and questions her on Marinette’s secret, to which Alya states that Marinette’s secret is, “She’s in love with Adrien Agreste.” Now, at the time of Season 4′s airing, this is very much not a secret, as most characters already knew about Marinette’s crush, to the point where it’d been broadcast on television during Season 2.
But do you know when it was actually a secret? Back in Season 1, specifically in the episode “Animan” where Alya told Nino.
And not only did she tell Nino, but she lied to Marinette by claiming that she didn’t, acting as if Nino knew that Marinette had a crush but didn’t know who she was crushing on, which is then directly proven false as Nino accidentally implies that he does know who it is. This is also after Alya had gotten on Marinette’s case for trying to set her up with Nino, and then she had the gall to say that she wouldn’t spill Marinette’s secret because she, and I quote, “doesn't go around making decisions for other people,“ a statement that is directly contradicted by this little thing known as everything Alya has ever said and done in the entire series.
And while Marinette meddling in Alya’s love life actually ended up working out for Alya, Alya meddling in Marinette’s by telling Nino who Marinette is crushing on comes back to bite Marinette - not Alya (because of course) - in the infamous episode of “The Puppeteer 2,” where Marinette realizes that Alya really did tell Nino that she was crushing on Adrien.
Marinette: You told me you wouldn't tell Nino!
Alya: I haven't told him. Right, Nino? I didn't tell you anything. (elbows him)
Nino: She didn't tell me. And besides, I told her I wouldn't tell.
Then, when she’s called out on it, Alya lies again, and shamelessly so.
Marinette: Why did you tell Nino everything? You promised you wouldn't!
Alya: I didn't, I swear! Besides, even if I had told him everything, he would still be clueless. Ugh, who cares anyway? I've set everything up with Nino, who doesn't know a thing, so you can finally pour your heart out to Adrien, girl!
And now, here we are one season later - and not even half of a season if you go by production code order - and Alya claims that she knows how to keep a secret.
No. No, she does not. In fact, she does even worse because she won’t even admit when she’s spilled said secret. I absolutely refuse to accept that Alya is “worthy” or “deserving” of learning that Marinette is Ladybug when she couldn’t even keep a basic secret like who her friend was crushing on.
And no, it didn’t matter that Nino was her boyfriend, or that maybe she thought it would work out because Nino was friends with Adrien. By that logic, Alya would tell Adrien that Marinette is Ladybug if she heard that Ladybug is who Adrien was crushing on and we all know how that would’ve gone.
Marinette has a right to tell her secret to whoever she wants and I’m glad that a burden has been lifted from her, but that doesn’t mean I have to be happy that it’s Alya. That doesn’t mean I have to be happy that, after so many moments of Alya disrespecting Marinette’s feelings, she is the one who gets to hear the big secret that the fandom has been waiting for someone to find out about since the very start of the series.
Luka said it best in “Truth” that the truth is meant to be shared, not taken by force, but Marinette was forced to tell Alya by the narrative because Alya is her supposed “best friend.” It pushed Marinette to her breaking point, forced her to break up with the guy who has respected her agency and feelings since the day they met, and gave her a version of her “best friend” with the same name and face but with none of the responsibility from previous events so that said version was there at the right time and the right place to hear what had to be heard.
And in the end, I end up feeling nothing. Marinette doesn’t even have a “Marinette” reaction to saying it as one would expect; for her to blurt it out and then immediately start panicking until Alya hugs her to calm her down. Instead, Marinette just says it and stares silently at Alya - after blabbing this huge, very big deal of a secret - until Alya goes in for a hug (the “happy/hopeful” ending of which is why I feel like this episode also gets less flak, as the previous two ended off rather depressing/upsetting).
It’s off. Everything is off. The pacing, the delivery, and the logic that the episode uses. The emotion in Marinette’s voice when she’s rambling about how hard it is to keep her secret is so powerful, but then the ending hits and she just says it, breaking the momentum they had going. They pulled the card of Alya walking away too soon when they could’ve saved it, having Marinette go quiet and letting Alya take a few steps away in order to let the moment build before Marinette finally blurts out the secret she’s been painfully holding in.
But they didn’t, and I’m so many levels of dissatisfied. I wasn’t against the idea of Alya learning Marinette’s secret at some point (though honestly, Alix would’ve been a better pick considering that Bunnyx will know eventually anyway, and I say that not even liking Alix!), but not now; not when Alya had so much to work towards.
And now what? What happens now? Now Alya will turn against Lila, not because she learned to have faith and believe in Marinette, but because Marinette is Ladybug, which disproves Lila’s ultimate lie that got Alya’s attention in the first place? Now Alya will be supportive and less teasing/mocking whenever Marinette will be late, not because she understands that Marinette isn’t perfect and has so many other things on her mind, but because she’s Ladybug and has “hero stuff” to take care of? Now Alya will be careful about what she puts on the LadyBlog, not because she respected Ladybug and what Ladybug would want, but because Ladybug is now her best friend and that changes everything?
Because now, Alya has a free pass to all of that, the show making her spontaneously “developed” now so they won’t have to develop her later, and disappointing doesn’t even begin to describe it.

ML Fic Recs - Ladynoir
I think most readers can appreciate a good rec list, but it’s often the same fics that I see recced again and again. I get why they’re recced - they’re amazing! But I want help finding fic I haven’t already read. So I decided to be the change I want to see in the world. The rule: the fic must have less than a thousand kudos on AO3 (but I’m trying to limit to fics that have less than 500.) Obviously this means a lot of my favourites are not included here, but you’ve probably read all of those already anyway.
If you enjoy these, please reblog so more readers can find these awesome fics!
To get things started and in honour of the quality ladynoir content we just got (which I’m hoping will inspire even more quality fan content!), let’s have some ladynoir recs. Fics are in no particular order.
Amnesiac? More like Amnesi-Chat by therealjanebingley
Oblivio's back, and this time only Chat Noir gets hit. Based on his limited knowledge and the way Ladybug acts towards him, he makes some assumptions.
One-shot. This is hilarious. From Chat’s genuine glee about his superheroes to Ladybug’s affectionate indulgence to having Chat provide an “outside perspective” on Ladybug’s non-platonic behaviour towards him to the teasing... I could see this actually happening in an Oblivio 2.0 episode.
Experimental Kisses by @komorebirei
Ladybug watched him. Maybe it was guilt, maybe sympathy, maybe a streak of playfulness. Maybe the traumatic akuma experience had softened her up. Whatever the reason, a thought wafted lazily through her mind and out of her mouth. “You know… you’re right. It isn’t fair, is it?”
Chat Noir looked up.
“I remember my first kiss, but you don’t.” She hummed and tapped her chin, making a show of remembering. “It wasn’t a bad kiss, but we were in the middle of fighting an akuma, so I didn’t get to enjoy it much, either.”
Oops—that came out sounding a little, no, a lot more flirty than she had intended. Anyway, if she was going to commit to this idea, she may as well go all in.
One-shot. Ladybug offers to kiss Chat since he doesn’t remember their kiss and the way she reacts to the kiss...it lives in my mind rent-free. I have fallen asleep many a night fantasizing about what the repercussions of the kiss might look like.
What's your favourite colour? by @hermionemonica
Ladybug and Chat Noir sit on a rooftop, watching the sunset.
One-shot. This fic is short and sweet and absolutely lovely. It’s set post-reveal and despite only being 566 words it’s full of sweetness and feeling.
Margins of Error by orphan_account
“Do you…” Ladybug's voice is at an almost-whisper. He can feel her breath fire-hot against his face. “Do you want me to show you how I think they should write our kiss?”
Adrien isn’t here anymore, leave a message after the tone.
--
Adrien was raised on order. His life is meticulously planned, each day as reliable as the equations he studies in physics and calculus. But Ladybug- Ladybug always has him at a loss.
One-shot. Okay, so I know the author of this one since I download all my favourite fics, but since they’ve orphaned it I’m going to respect that. However, since the author was kind enough to leave the work up so people can continue to enjoy it, I’m going to suggest that people do so! Ladynoir kisses featuring my absolute favourite dynamic: sexually assertive Ladybug and receptive Chat Noir. (Don’t take this to mean the fic has sexual content - it’s just kissing.) AMAZING.
Liquid Luck by @somethingvaguetodo
Ladybug enlists Chat Noir's help in decoding the remaining ingredients for the power-up transformation potions. Together, they work on creating them, and possibly destroying the barriers between them.
Multi-chapter. The riddles of the secret potion ingredients are fun to think about, Ladybug and Chat Noir both get to show off their smarts, and the trust and support between the two of them is showcased. Perfect ladynoir.
when you weren't mine to lose by @bugsandchatons
Change is a scary thing, especially when it feels like nothing has stayed the same.
It's been a year since Marinette became the Guardian of the Miracle Box - a year of struggling beneath a burden she never asked for, a weight that has her leaning on her partner more and more as the hours fly by, of letting him come to her, too, when he needs a soft place to land. A year of falling for the boy who takes on the world by her side with a smile made of sunlight, and fighting the growing urge to tell him what he means to her.
After all, they'll have time enough for that when Paris is safe.
But when the unthinkable happens, Marinette learns the tragedy of loving someone quietly, and the lines she'll cross to save him.
Multi-chapter. This is what happens when Ladybug loses Chat Noir. It hurts in all the best ways and the writing is absolutely gorgeous and somehow we still get a happy ending!
well if i'm beautiful and you're beautiful then who's saving paris? by celebreultimaverba
Chat flirts. Surprisingly, it works.
And then it backfires.
One-shot. This one is so cute and sweet! It’s a quick read but you’ll be smiling by the end of it.
sometimes the dreamers finally wake up by magesamell
"Four days ago a mermaid flooded Paris and an ancient guardian introduced himself to his father as a substitute Chinese tutor. He had thought that would be the end of it."
Ladybug tells Chat Noir all of her secrets.
One-shot. Post-Syren. The fic we all desperately need about Ladybug actively working to restore the balance of her and Chat’s relationship after Fu messes with that. It’s not overly romantic, but it’s absolutely perfect.
i fall in love just a little, oh, just a little by @mlady-noir
If she was asked, Ladybug wouldn't be able to give a specific date when her heart decided to fall for her pun loving partner, but she could point out the night she realized it.
One-shot. Sofffffttttttt. This is just a beautiful narrative of Ladybug’s fall for Chat with a sweet, sweet ending.
Someone I Can’t Fall In Love With by @yslen54
Ladybug agreed with Chat Noir when he suggested that they should finally share their identities with each other, but she’s been dreading it ever since.
One-shot. This is short and sweet. An identity reveal that explores Ladybug’s feelings for Chat Noir and then plays with the divided heart trope.
The following fics are amazing and absolutely worth reading, but do feature sexual content, so minors beware.
You can’t stay away from me by plikki
When Adrien sides with his father, he expects to protect Ladybug and buy some time. He doesn't expect that his emotional state will make it so much harder to resist the girl that he loves, until he just gives in.
Multi-chapter. Rated M. Not-quite an enemies AU, but with all the beautiful angst and tension of one. There’s a fair amount of sex, so be warned but it’s SO SO GOOD. And all of the pain and angst is followed by a sweet happy ending.
baby, we don't have time to be coy by Molebear
"What are we doing?" Chat breathes, the words sending a tendril of lucidity back into Ladybug's hormone-addled brain.
It's a fair question.
The origins of this tryst are a little hazy in her mind at this point. Something about a lovesick akuma, maybe? Ladybug vaguely remembers Chat Noir getting struck by something, only seconds before it hit her too. There was a fight, or... there was something she and Chat Noir had been in the middle of doing - something important, like.... save-the-world important - before she'd dragged him underground with the sole intention of climbing him like a tree.
A scorned lover gets akumatized and gains the power to cast Lust. When it comes to distracting Paris' beloved superhero team, this power turns out to be... rather effective.
One-shot. Rated M. The UST of this one damn near killed me. It’s hot AF and I would commit homicide to read the conversation these two have after that lmaoooo
Charmed, I'm Sure by @chatonne-rousse
Friends with benefits. It's right there in the name, and it's what they are - friends. Best friends. This is just a way for two consenting adults to relieve stress after akuma fights, with the only person they'd trust with this level of intimacy. Really, what could go wrong? (The real question is, what could go right?)
Multi-chapter. Rated E. The sex is really, really hot. It’s in character and full of emotion. And there’s an amazing identity reveal followed by “I’m so happy it’s you!” sex.
A Little Too Far by imploder
Ladybug gets handsy, and Chat Noir lacks self-control. Alternitavely: "Plagg's Worst Nightmare".
One-shot. Rated E. This one is hot and in character and just absolutely amazing steamy ladynoir content. Features my favourite: sexually assertive Ladybug. Because who doesn’t love playing with gender role stereotypes?

⚠️Warning Swearing, blood, death, and traumatic events⚠️
Chapter 2
<<Previous / next>>
When Shadowmoth is defeated things take a twist for Ladybug and Chat noir. Ladybug goes to new worlds when she learns new things about her past. Dragging Chat noir along with her. And back on Earth the world is rewired to have one person rule it all, King Félix Fathom. And on top of all that a new villain rises, Signora Farfalla. With new worlds, rulers, villains and even feelings who knows what mysteries are in the stars.
=-+ Note’s +-=
This is an AU where the events of season 4 aand the ending of season 3 did not happen. Ladybug still has the miraculouses, Rena Rouge is still active and Felix was never given a miraculous. The only events that did happen are that Rena Rouge knows Ladybug is Marinette and Ivan, Sabrina, Marc and Nathanael were given miraculouses. Ladybug has also let all of the miraculous holders keep their miraculouses and Alix and Chloé have a miraculous. And more mysteries are yet to be solved.
This story is inspired by The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Mayer. If you like this story you’ll enjoy The Lunar Chronicles. It is an amazing series about a teenage cyborg girl and her journey defeating an evil queen. There’s 4 books: Cinder, Scarlet, Cress, and Winter. Each book is inspired by a different fairytale. Cinder - Cinderella, Scarlet - Little red riding hood, Cress - Rapunzel and Winter - Snow White. It is one of the best book series I’ve ever read and I recommend it so much.
Chapter 2- The pain siblings
Chat noir had called her a million times. Maybe more. But she wouldn’t answer. It was patrol time and he was especially on edge with the new Shadowmoth. He didn’t know what to do if they attacked. And he needed his lady to figure it out. He also just kind of wanted to see her.
He heard a thump and turned around. He found Rena rouge and Ladybug. Ladybug looked like she was about to pass out and Rena was trying to keep her awake and support her. “Um Ladybug you okay?” Chat asked maybe a little concerned for her sanity. Ladybug just grumbled and crossed her arms. Rena sighed.
“She’s been… a little… out of it lately. And she’s mad because I forced her to come to patrol today.” Rena said, annoyed.
“Um… if she doesn’t want to see me today it’s fine I can deal with patrol by myself.” Chat said shrugging then he looked away trying desperately to find a distraction. Ladybug looked like she realized something important and then instantly stood up. Her face turned red and started stumbling.
“I… no!… i… it’s… it’s not like I… I don’t want to. KISS! I mean see you! It’s… it’s just…” she looked away sadly. He could easily tell Rena was feeling awkward.
“Rena you can go if you want.” Ladybug said underneath her breath. Rena looked at Ladybug. She nodded and ran off. Ladybug stared at her looking like it was the death of her being alone with him. Chat deflated. Obviously she didn’t want to be near him.
“I’m sorry. Am I making you awkward? Or uncomfortable? I’m sorry I can go and you and Rena can do patrol or…”
“NO!” Ladybug scrunched her eyes closed. She looked mad.
“I’m sorry I didn’t…”
“Stop apologizing!” Ladybug looked him in the eyes. She now just looked sad. She started playing with her hair.“I’m sorry, Chat… I just… I don’t know why you still put up with me… I messed up…”
“Ladybug.”
“Everything and I feel so bad and I don’t deserve…”
“Ladybug!”
“To have the miraculous. I can’t defend anyone and I feel so bad…”
“LADYBUG!” Ladybug just continued rambling about how she was a horrible person. And she didn’t deserve to be Ladybug. And more bad stuff about herself. And Chat. Just. Couldn’t. Believe. It. He legitimately just screamed in her face and she’s still talking. Chat needed her to stop talking so she can explain why she’s acting like this. Then he had an idea. An idea that is really stupid and idiotic. And she’ll probably be really mad. But it was an idea.
Chat grabbed the back of her head and pulled her into a kiss.
…………………..
Chat was actually kissing her this time. Like legitimately KISSING her. Ladybug was caught by SO FUCKING MUCH SURPRISE. I mean do you just kiss someone out of the blue?! Ladybug was as still as a statue. It was probably a good idea to pull away. But she kind of didn’t want to. Chat was about to pull away when Ladybug grabbed the back of his head and pulled him into an even deeper kiss. Chat made a somewhat surprised sound and laced his hands into her pigtails.
Ladybug legitimately felt like she was about to melt into a puddle of red mush. Her heart was beating so fast she felt like it was about to burst out of her chest. Man she really did not realize how much she wanted to kiss him. Ladybug’s legs started to collapse. But Chat put one of his hands on her waist, pulling her closer to support her.
There was a low rumbling. Ladybug froze. Chat was purring. He pulled away quickly, embarrassed. “I I’M SO SORRY. I MEAN SORRY FOR KISSING YOU. NOT PURRING. I MEAN IF YOUR MAD AT ME FOR PURRING. I’M SORRY FOR THAT TOO!”Ladybug just started laughing.
“I’m not upset. I’m definitely surprised. But definitely not upset.” Ladybug said, laughing even more. “And plus your purring was cute.” Chat stood there blushing so much. He looked really cute when he was embarrassed. “I’m just wondering why did you kiss me?”
“I you you were rambling too much about how your a a bad person. And you weren’t listening to me. And you were definitely not stopping anytime soon. So so I thought I could make you stop by kissing you… and I I guess it got a little bit out of control…” he laughed a small laugh. Then she looked at the ground still embarrassed.
…………………..
Chat stood there really embarrassed. He totally didn’t mean to start purring. “I’m sorry, Chat.” She said suddenly. She looked at the ground too. “I… Master Su-Han came to visit after I got back from the fight yesterday.” Chat looked at her. Er well the top of her head. “He’s… I think he’s mad. And disappointed in me…” she started crying a little. Chat started wiping the tears away. She looked up and started crying even more. “I’m sorry, Chat. I messed up. And I have a feeling master Su-Han might make me give up the Miracle box.”
Chat froze. “Wha…what?” She looked at him with sad eyes. Chat shook in anger. “I’m not gonna let him do that.”
“Chat, you can’t force him to not do that.”
“Well I’m gonna!”
“Chat…”
“This isn’t negotiable!” She frowned.
“And how are you gonna do that?”
“I… I’ll find a way.” They stood there in silence. “So… you told him everything?” Chat asked nervously. Ladybug started blushing.
“N…no not everything. I only told him who has the miraculouses and that I was stabbed. And no he was not concerned that I was stabbed.” Ladybug crossed her arms. She seemed a little salty about Master Su-Han not being concerned.
“Speaking of being stabbed, are you okay?”
“Oh yah. It’s just sore now. It’s a little weird that it healed so fast though.” Ladybug held her stomach like it was still bleeding.
“Yeah well that’s being a superhero for you.” Ladybug giggled.
…………………..
They sat there for a while. Nothing had happened yet. And it was unusually quiet. Except for the occasional pigeon and wind blowing. “Ok I think we both know it’s unusual for Paris to be this quiet.” Chat said, breaking the silence.
“Yah it’s disturbingly quiet. Maybe we should do a check around Paris to figure out what’s going on.” Ladybug said, looking around. Then she froze. Her gaze landed on the Eiffel Tower.
“Ladybug?” She pulled out her Yo-yo and used it to zoom in on the Eiffel Tower. “Ladybug?” Her face went pale.
“Look at this.” She said, handing him her yo-yo. He took it and couldn’t believe his eyes. Well actually it didn’t surprise him that much. On the Eiffel Tower, standing, was Lila. Surrounded by butterflies. She was making a speech but he couldn’t hear it. “We should get closer.” Chat noir nodded. She was right. But he still had a bad feeling about it.
They hid on a roof. Watching closely. The people who had gathered were cowering in fear. Ladybug was really quiet. She was nervous. She had messed up so badly that now the civilians were so scared. Little boys and girls crying. Parents protecting their children. Teenagers filming the scene on their phones. All of them. ALL of them were probably mad at her. Ladybug hid behind the roof even more. She started shaking. Lila hadn’t talked since they got there. Maybe she was waiting for something? Or someone? Was she waiting for them?
Lila had her dark hair in a bun. She had a big silver hair tie keeping it in place with purple ribbons. Her little bubble braids in the front were tied with purple ribbons. The ends of the bubble braids were dyed purple. She had black sclera and vibrant purple irises and pupils. She had a dark grey mask that stretched down to her cheeks. She had a suit jacket that was closed with short sleeves and a long tail. She had long dark grey fingerless gloves and biker shorts. And knee high boots. There was a pearl belt with a charm that looked like the butterfly miraculous. Speaking of the miraculouses she was only wearing one… where was the peacock miraculous?
“First time I’ve seen a villain in biker shorts.” Chat noir commented. Ladybug laughed quietly. Chat looked at her. “You okay?”
“Yah yah I’m fine.” She kept staring intensely at Lila. Chat looked away.
“So what are we gonna do first?”
“Let’s just wait for her to talk.”
“Citizens of Paris!” Lila had finally said something.
“About time.” Chat noir muttered under his breath. Ladybug pulled out her Yo-yo. Chat pushed her yo-yo back down. He could feel Ladybug’s gaze landing on him confused. “Let’s just wait.” Ladybug hid behind her wall again.
“I’m Signora Farfalla!” Lila said smiling.
“Signora Farfalla?” Ladybug asked, confused, she looked at Chat.
“It means Lady Butterfly in Italian.” Chat said.
“I see she’s finally going back to her actual roots.” Ladybug muttered.
“You’re Heroes have failed you. Their one job, to retrieve the Peacock and Butterfly miraculous. They failed. Miserably I would even go as far to say.” She chuckled. Ladybug grabbed the roof. Chat put his hand on top of hers. She relaxed a little but not much. “Your so-called “Heroes” barely even had the Peacock and Butterfly miraculouses in their clutches. Sure they succeeded at one thing. Killing an icon! Oh you didn’t know? They killed Gabriel Agreste!”
Ladybug grabbed the roof even harder. Chat squeezed her hand. “Lies lies LIES.” Ladybug angrily hissed. Chat slumped down. Yes technically they had killed Gabriel Agreste. But he was a villain. And they didn’t do it on purpose. Actually thinking about it he killed himself. He was the one who shoved Chat noir into the wall.
“Listen I know you trust your heroes but they won’t help you now. There’s a new butterfly miraculous holder in town! And I’ll make your lives unbearable. Oh and what will your heroes do? Well why don’t they tell us themselves.” Lila smiled like the devil and suddenly Chat noir was encompassed in butterflies. Ladybug only saw darkness. She only heard the flutter of wings. Ladybug’s hand was torn away from Chat noir’s. “Chat? Chat!? CHAT!?” Her eyes started watering. But she wiped the tears away. She tried shoving her hand through the butterflies. But it was like rock. She suddenly was pulled down to her knees. The butterflies covering her mouth. She started sobbing. Her knees stinged from crashing into whatever she collapsed onto. Suddenly her vision was cleared. She saw she was on top of the Eiffel Tower. Her hands and knees were being held down by butterflies.
She looked to her right and saw Chat. She tried calling for him. But it was all muffled. She started sobbing. He looked at her with sad eyes. Then he looked down at the people that had gathered. She wanted to hold his hand and curl up against him so badly. But she. couldn’t. move. She stared at him. Until Lila pulled her face toward her. Ladybug was staring into those cold eyes. They were so unusual and unnatural. “Pathetic” Lila spat. Lila threw Ladybug’s face towards Chat. Chat sat up straighter and glared at Lila.
All of the butterflies around Ladybug’s mouth flew away. “So Ladybug? What are you gonna do to protect Paris? Are you gonna even try?” Lila circled around Ladybug. “I mean your so incompetent you can’t even protect yourself! How are you gonna protect Paris? How are you going to protect your parents? How are you gonna protect your friends? How are you gonna protect the one you love?” Ladybug looked at Chat then quickly looked away. “You know why don’t we actually see?” All of the citizens backed away from the Eiffel Tower. Some even ran back home. But they didn’t need to. Lila pulled out a knife and walked behind Chat Noir. She brought the knife below his chin and held it in front of his neck.
Lila brought the knife closer to his neck. Ladybug panicked, there wasn’t anything she could do. She was useless. She was so useless. Lila brought the knife closer until it was pressing into his skin. Little droplets of blood getting on the knife. No. No. No. “STOP!” Ladybug didn’t know where the scream came from. Until she realized everyone was staring at her. Until she realized her own throat betrayed her.“Stop. Please.” She pleaded. “You’re right, Signora Farfalla. I shouldn’t be Ladybug. If I can’t protect myself. Then how am I going to protect all of Paris? How am I going to protect the one I love?” Chat blushed a little. “You know what Lila?” Lila froze.
“What did you say?” Lila said angrily. Glaring at her.
“Whoops did I accidentally say your true identity?” Ladybug smirked. She could see Chat panicking and praying that she didn’t die. Lila walked over. She pointed the knife at Ladybug’s chest.
“Are you giving me sass?” Ladybug just smiled. Lila thrusted the knife into Ladybug’s chest. The whole world froze. Lila took the knife out. And Ladybug fell.
…………………..
Chat watched as Ladybug’s body fell and the blood spilled out of the wound. Tears started to flood Chat’s vision. He sat there staring at the body. He’d… he’d just sat there and watched her die. He couldn’t have done anything. He was helpless. Chat screamed in grief. He pulled his hands out of the butterfly holds. Then he launched himself at Lila. Breaking the foot holds. Then he pulled out his stick and struck Lila in the back, sending her flying. She crashed against one of the metal poles. Then she pulled out her staff and stood up.
Chat was full on crying now. “YOU LITTLE BITCH! YOU KILLED MILADY!” He ejected the knife tool in his stick and he sprinted towards Lila trying to stab her. But she blocked his stick and threw him backwards. He instantly flung himself again at Lila. This time cutting her thigh. She grunted. Then she cut his shoulder and attempted to throw him off the beam. He held on. “CATACLYSM!” The beam crumpled into a pile of ashes. Chat fell down and hit the concrete. His back stinged a little but he instantly got back up. Lila on the other hand sat there. She was staring at Ladybug’s body which was now on the ground next to her.
Chat ran towards Lila but she grabbed Ladybug’s body and pulled out the knife. Chat stopped. “If you take another step I’ll kill her once and for all.” Chat looked at Ladybug and noticed she was ever so slightly moving. The healing thing, right. Her hair had that weird thing again where the tips were glowing light blue. Chat took a step back. Then another. Then he stood there. Lila stared at him.
Chat launched himself at Lila, cutting her cheek. He punched her in the face. And grabbed Ladybug. Then he ran.
…………………..
Chat dragged Ladybug’s body into an alley. Then he cradled her fragile body in his arms. He brushed the hair away from her face. Blood was dripping onto his suit. But he didn’t care. He started crying, the tears hitting her face. He brought her head to his chest and held it. Chat felt Ladybug’s hand move. Then her eyes fluttered open. He smiled and cried more. “Nothing can kill you, Milady.” He muttered. Ladybug’s hand moved to wipe away his tears.
“Why are you crying?” She said quietly, like she could barely talk.
“I was scared.” Chat pulled Ladybug closer. She nuzzled her face into his shoulder.
“You looove me.” Ladybug said giggling sleepily. Chat smiled then nuzzled his face into her hair. He could feel her breathing slowing down. He looked at her and saw she had fallen asleep. She must have been tired. He brushed her hair away again. And kissed her forehead. Maybe they could just sit here for a while.
…………………..
Ladybug woke to sirens. She looked around. Seeing a police car zooming by. She was confused. She had no memory of going to an alleyway. She looked up and saw Chat’s sleeping face. She blushed. This was really close. She looked down and saw her chest was bloody but there was no wound. What had happened? Had Chat gotten hurt? Where was Signora Farfalla? Chat rustled around. Then he whimpered. She looked up and saw him crying. She wiped the tears away. And started rubbing his hair. He purred a little then fell silent again.
Ladybug quietly and slowly lifted herself off his lap. And sat next to him. He fell over and started resting in her lap. She sighed. She saw someone standing in the opening of the alleyway. She jumped. And Chat stirred. “Who… w who’s there?!” The person stepped into the light. Ladybug relaxed. It was just Rena Rouge.
“Ladybug! I’ve been looking all over for you! I was so worried they’d already got you or you were dead!” Rena exclaimed, running towards Ladybug.
“Who’s after me? And why would I be dead?” Chat whimpered again. What the hell is he dreaming about?
“Have you not heard?”
“No, I've been asleep.”
“Ah. Well Lila murdered or kidnapped Mayor Bourgeois, we’re not quite sure which one. And now she’s taken over Paris and sent the Police after any other miraculous holder than her. Especially you two… is Chat noir okay?” Ladybug looked down and found Chat hugging a rock. She tried taking the rock but he bit her hand.
“Yah… I don’t think so.” Rena laughed. Chat eyes fluttered open. He quickly sat up. And pulled out his stick.
“Who’s there?” He said groggily, his words a little slurred. He fell backwards and curled up on Ladybug’s lap. Rena started laughing even more. Ladybug started rubbing his hair and he purred.
“So we’re basically wanted criminals now?” Rena nodded, serious once again. “Great” Ladybug grumbled.
“It might be a bad time but they also searched everyone’s homes…” Ladybug looked at Rena.
“What?”
“They might not have gotten to your house yet…” Ladybug got up. Chat’s head hitting the ground. He woke up confused. Ladybug ran out of the alleyway as fast as she could.
“Ladybug?!” Chat yelled.

Because I doubt the writers are going to feed us the interaction immediately after The Thing™, here I am. GANG OF SECRETS SPOILERS. IF YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED S4 YET, DO NOT READ ON
Marinette clutched the sides of her head as if she might explode if she didn't hold everything together. "You're right, I have secrets and I lie all the time! I lie to my parents, to my friends. To everyone..." She felt her best friend sit beside her on the chair but she was so caught up in her feelings that she couldn't process it. "And the worst part about it is that I can't do anything about it!" She buried her face in her hands, fighting back another bought of sobs.
"We always have the choice, Marinette." Alya spoke softly and carefully putting her arms around the girl. In the back of her head, Marinette was sure that she could feel her shaking but at this point, she didn't care. She was overwhelmed. She was heartbroken. She was stressed. She was terrified.
"No." She looked up and met her friend's eyes and saw a look of sympathy. "At least not for me. I've got no other choice. It's all beyond us, Alya, and it's too heavy to carry." She wiped a tear from her face.
"If it's too heavy, then we'll be two to carry it," the girl whispered comfortingly. With this, Marinette let out a long breath. She knew what the right decision was to the discourse she'd been having in her own head all day. That didn't stop her fear from taking control, though.
"If I tell you, things between us will never be the same. It's going to destroy everything, change it all."
"Marinette, whatever you'll say, I'm your friend." Marinette could hear how desperately her friend wanted to know. But it wasn't out of curiosity or pushiness. It was to take the burden of her secret from her. To help her carry it.
"And me..." She searched her friend's eyes, gaining the confidence and reassurance she needed from the loving stare of her best friend. "I'm Ladybug." Time seemed to move in slow motion. For a moment, she wondered if Bunnix had done it, showing up to keep her from telling Alya. But instead, time resumed as the redhead's expression quickly changed from shock and confusion to one of understanding before pulling her into a tight hug. She paused for a moment before wrapping her own arms around her friend and let herself sob silently into her shoulder.
If she was being honest, Marinette had thought of a thousand different scenarios as to how Alya might react. The majority of them were filled with neverending questions from the Ladybug-Superfan. A select few ended with Alya storming out and never speaking to her. One even included her selling her out to Shadowmoth, though she shut that one down quickly. However, she hadn't let herself imagine Alya comforting her immediately. Marinette was grateful to her friend for that. She didn't ask her to prove it, ask her a million questions, or even speak. She just hugged her because she trusted her. Alya had complete faith in her.
After a few minutes of letting out the weeks' worth of sorrow and pressure out into her friend's flannel-clad shoulder, she eventually pulled away and searched Alya's eyes. She seemed to be processing the information, but sympathy and understanding still took over her face. Seeing that expression, all worries and stress washed away in a wave of overwhelming relief. It felt amazing to have finally told someone and she knew she had made the right choice. She let out another breath and a smile forced itself onto her face. It felt foreign on her face now, rarely having worn one since becoming the gaurdian, but it felt at home. She wiped her cheeks and laughed. Nothing was amusing, she was just so happy that it escaped her lips automatically.
"Okay, I'm okay. You can react now," she announced. Though Alya was doing an amazing job at just being understanding, she could tell that her best friend was bursting with questions. Alya seemed to scan over her one last time to check for any remaining need of comfort before letting her face turn to an expression of shock.
She sat silent for a moment as if trying to organize her thoughts before breathing out, "You've beta-read so much of my LadyNoir fanfiction..." Marinette couldn't help the loud laugh. She clapped her hand over her mouth but Alya just joined in the laughter. They sat there letting out all of their relief and joy and connection through that shared laugh until their stomachs hurt. Eventually, they were able to get their breath back and Alya seemed to be more collected in her processing.
"Okay, actually though, that's insane. Ladybug has been my best friend this whole time and I had no clue. And all the pressure you've been under this whole time. I mean hell, Marinette! Paris' safety- No. The world's safety has been sitting on your and Chat Noir's shoulders for two years and you're only 16! I can't even imagine it! I mean, I guess I can to an extent because, ya know, Rena Rogue. But that's more of a part-time gig and it's not like everyone's relying super heavily on me. And now I'm rambling. What I'm trying to say is that I'm glad you trusted me with this and I'm so sorry I haven't been able to support you the way you've been needing. But I'm here now." She inhaled, clearly having forgotten to breathe during her ramble, and pulled Marinette into one more hug. "Can I ask questions?" She asked after they pulled apart again.
Marinette smiled. "Of course, Als."
"Okay. God, where do I even start? Do you know who Chat Noir is?"
"No. It's too dangerous for us to know each other's identities. Shadowmoth needs both of our miraculous and if we knew each other's identities, that would make it that much easier for him to get them," Marinette explained. It felt amazing to finally be talking about this with someone. Of course, she always had Tikki and now the other kwamis, but she needed the support of another person. She needed the support of her best friend.
"So he doesn't know who you are either?" Marinette shook her head and Alya nodded. "How did you even get your miraculous? I mean it's not like there was a Ladybug to hand it to you like I got mine."
"The last guardian, Master Fu, gave them to us. I don't know what happened with Chat Noir but I imagine that it was similar to why he gave me mine. I saved him from getting hit by a car in a crosswalk and showed him kindness. He told me later that he could see the 'heroic qualities' in me." She used her fingers to make air quotes around the words.
"That's incredible!" She paused for a moment, eyebrows raised in thought. "Oh my god, so many things make so much sense now."
"RIGHT?!" Marinette exclaimed.
"That's why you're always late! And why you're always so tired! And why you just dash out of class in the middle of the day!"
"EXACTLY!" Marinette practically shouted, relieved to finally be understood.
"Oh,
man... Everything's clicking in place, wow." Marinette could almost see the equations floating in front of Alya's face.
"Wait, sorry if this is out of line but... Is LadyNoir canon?"
"WHAT! No! Not in a million years!"
"Then what is this?" Alya whipped out her phone and showed Marinette her home screen. It was the picture that had been haunting the girl since it was taken. She wished it would disappear but it was constantly resurfacing on the internet and on tabloid covers. The photo of her and Chat Noir kissing on the rooftop after battling Oblivio.
"I have no idea what that was," she admitted. "I have no memory of even defeating Oblivio, let alone kissing that mangy cat."
"I mean, I know you're going through a lot right now and have sworn off romance for the time being but... Could it ever happen?"
Marinette opened her mouth to respond but all that came out was a sigh. "No," was all she said.
"Why not?"
"I..." Tears formed in her eyes and Alya immediately pulled her into a hug.
"Oh my god, Marinette. I'm so sorry, I didn't-"
"No, no. I just... I haven't really let myself think about it since it happened. But, I guess I can finally talk about it, huh?"
"You can tell me anything, you know that."
And so, Marinette told Alya about what happened with Chat Blanc. She explained how their love destroyed the world. She explained how her own irresponsibility with her miraculous had destroyed the world. The whole event had honestly been very traumatic to Marinette and weighed heavily on her heart. Since that, she'd been even more closed off about her secret, especially to her partner. She hadn't let herself think about it if she could help it, but it still haunted her in her nightmares.
As she finished the story, Alya tightened her arms around her. "Marinette, I am so, so sorry that you had to go through that. You've been put through so much and you've been holding on to so much pressure and it's not fair. Mari, when I tell you this, I want you to believe me. You are the strongest person I know. You've gone through more than anyone should have to go through in a lifetime. Yet, you still manage to find a way to always be there for your friends and your family. You're out all night fighting for your life and for the world and then you come to school and you're there for everyone else. You are so, so strong. You're amazing and not just because you're Ladybug, but because you're Marinette." Marinette couldn't hold back the tears that flowed down her cheeks as she hugged her best friend. Any regrets or doubts she worried she might have about telling Alya were gone. She knew she had made the right choice.
The girls spent the rest of the night talking about this, a mix of laughing and crying until they eventually fell asleep there on Marinette's couch, tired from the whirlwind of emotions. "Thank you, Alya, for being here for me," Marinette whispered as Alya's breathing steadied. Then, she closed her eyes and fell asleep herself. For the first time in weeks, her dreams were light and hopeful.

MLB fan fiction
Marichat, Ladynoir, Adrianette, Ladrien
Part 9
Chat Noir didn’t understand, when he fell asleep, but when he opened his eyes, his head was resting on Marinette’s belly, his hands wrapped around her tights.
Marinette was playing with his hair and slowly massaging the skin on his head.
“Mmmmmm.” Chat mumbled, burying his face in her belly.
Marinette squeaked.
“How long was I out?” He asked, lifting up to look into her face.
“Maybe half an hour.” Marinette replied, looking at him tenderly. “Hard day?”
“Probably I could call the day a little stressful.” He said. ‘Cause I couldn’t kiss you’ Chat finished in his head. Is it to early to say out-loud? Will it show how desperate he was for her today? “Until I saw you.” He said instead.
“I was thinking about you too.” Marinette confessed.
“You were?” Chat smiled, trying not to show just how much happy he was to hear her words.
“Yeah.” She smiled slyly at him. “You know, walking in a school, sitting in a class, eating in a cafe and thinking, how you could be any boy I saw around.” Her words were slow and agitated, as if she were luring him into some trap, not even knowing he was already trapped by her.
🚫warning: skip till the next sign if underagged🚫
“I was imagining you coming to me any moment.” She ran her fingers over his lips. “Kissing me. Pushing me against the wall. Fucking me with your fingers.” Marinette bit her lower lip.
🚫 Marinette shares her dreams about Chat 🚫
Chat Noir was looking at her with open mouth. The pictures of Adrien pushing Marinette against the wall in a dark corner of the school were too lively and desirable in front of his eyes.
“Princess.” He finally said, clearing his throat. “If you talk to me like that, I may fulfill your dreams not giving a damn about secret identities any more.”
“Be good kitty-cat and kiss me.” She answered.
He followed the instructions and then lay next to her, taking her into his arms.
“My friend found me destructed today too.” Chat confessed. He couldn’t share he was trying not to watch at her all day long though.
“My friend said I was day-dreaming.” Marinette smiled. “Although she misinterpreted the reason.”
“Really?” Chat turned to her. “What did she think?”
“Well, there is this boy.” Chat’s heart fell.
Those words were too painful for him. Marinette even sounded like Ladybug the day when Glasiator happened and she rejected Chat’s feelings.
“There is a boy?” He asked, trying to ignore this cruel deja vu in his head.
She is so great. Of course there is someone! Was it his destiny to be rejected? Was she just using him as a substitute?
“I was kind of crushing on him for a while. So my friend thought I was thinking about him, and now she wants to organize a date for us.” Marinette explained.
“Will you... go?” Chat swallowed.
“Are you jealous?” Marinette smiled at him playfully.
Why can’t he be mad at her? Does he even have the right to be jealous?
“What if I say I am?” Chat risked to ask.
“Then I say that you have no reason for it.” She placed a palm on his cheek and smiled. “Because I just don’t know how to tell Alya, that I’m no longer interested in him, so as not to arouse suspicions.”
“Why can’t you just say that you don't like him anymore or something?” Chat suggested. Was there some code for those things between the girls? Why does it sound so difficult.
“She won't believe me.” Marinette sighed. “I was crushing on him for years. I need to show fading out of interest somehow slowly. Alya is very curious, and she notices things. She wouldn’t just let it go if I said I didn’t want a date with him anymore.”
“So you are going then?” Why the idea of Marinette being with someone else was pinching his chest with so much pain? They are not even in relationships. Or are they?
“Of course not!” Marinette answered, like it was something obvious.
“How do you avoid it then without telling her?” Chat asked. Was there at least something about human relationships he could understand?
“Never thought I’d say that, but that’s the good part.” She smirked. “I mean, the possibility for that date to happen is so small, that I don’t even think I have to worry about it.”
Marinette turned and got up a little, ending up on all fours above him.
“And now be good kitty again an kiss me more.” She said, and leaned toward him.
*
Next day was a little easier for Adrien.
Marinette was mostly destructed by Alya, and now that he knew his not-yet-girlfriend might think about him right now, and that she didn’t have any intention of dating “the boy” Alya was setting her up with, Adrien was smiling to himself, anticipating the evening, when he could come and hold her.
His day-dreams were interrupted by Nino.
“Hey, bro!” He said, sitting next to Adrien on a bench in a school yard. “What with a dreamy face?”
“Uh...” was he really that obvious? “I... uh...”
“Say nothing, dude!” Nino smiled encouragingly. “I knew you’ll wake up one day.”
“What are you talking about?” Adrien narrowed his eyes.
“Come on, Ad, we’re friends, I can tell when you’re watching Mari’s every move with those loving eyes.”
“Loving eyes? Me?” Adrien blushed. “You are mistaking, Nino! I wasn’t... I didn’t...” What should he say?!
“It’s cool, bro.” Nino patted his shoulder. “In fact, this is what I wanted to ask you about.”
“Emmm.” Adrien was panicking. “Ask me about what, Nino? There is nothing really what you could ask about. Haha.”
“Right.” Nino smirked. “Except of your obvious crush on our little Mari.” Nino’s face became serious. “But I’m on a mission here. So, wouldn’t you like to take her out? So that you could be alone a little, talk, and see if there would be something for me to ask about?” He was smiling condescendingly at Adrien, showing he didn’t buy the ‘nothing to ask about’ thing.
“Out with Marinette?” Adrien didn’t expect that coming.
‘Damn, this is wrong,’ Adrien thought. Technically speaking she is seeing Chat Noir, even no one can know that. But this would be an opportunity to get to know her better as Adrien, to understand why she doesn't like this side of me.’
“I’d like that, Nino.” He sighed. “But I don’t think Marinette will agree to go out with me.”
“Trust me, dude, she’ll agree.” Nino had a very confident smile on his face.
“You think so?” Was it wrong to hope your yes-or-not-girlfriend will go out with you, but not the you she yes-or-not-dating?
“I really do. Leave it to me.” Nino said and stood up.

Goodbye (LoveSquare)
Summary: Marinette gives up the Miraculous box and forgets. Adrien is left behind as a result.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“How did I know that I’d find you here?” She said, and for a moment it was so easy to pretend that she was someone else, that he was in another time, another place in which things went right.
But he wasn’t.
And it was Rena Rouge beside him, that pitying smile on her face that she always had, her long legs covered in orange instead of red and her eyes brown instead of blue as she looked at him, a million things she wanted to say and not the time nor courage to say them.
He could only swallow, because he knew why she was there, and that he was supposed to be anywhere else.
But he couldn’t help it.
It was just like it always had been for the past year, him sitting on that rooftop, his legs hanging over the edge—so close to falling, but so far from it at the same time—and his green eyes trained forward, resting on the windows of a bakery that he had not been to in a year, on the room of a girl who he had not truly known for even a few months before he lost her. Wishing. Waiting. Wanting.
“I guess it’s better that you’re here than over there,” Rena said, slipping onto the ledge beside him, her hands braced on the cement edge as she sighed in that over-dramatic way of hers. As the Guardian of the Miraculous, she should have said more, the Order of Guardians would want her to.
But Rena was always soft on him—Alya was always soft on him.
“She still doesn’t remember,” Adrien said, pulling his knees up to his chin, watching as the girl in the window went about her day, pinning a dress into shape atop the cloth form she had only just bought.
“They said that it was unlikely that she would,” Alya reminded him. “Magic is pretty steadfast, Adrien.”
He, of all of the people, did not need to be reminded of that.
It took a long time to understand that his mother was gone.
And even longer to accept that Ladybug, as he knew her, was gone.
They had just a few months together.
“If you would only let me go over there,” Adrien began the same argument that he always made. Because he was so certain that up close, if she really looked at him, she would see him and remember. They would have back their Ladybug, they could pull her miraculous out of the box—
“Adrien, it’s better this way,” Alya reminded him, frowning as her eyes moved to look where exactly he was watching—taking in the black-haired girl that toiled over yet another design.
“For who?” He asked, but he already knew the answer.
For her.
Because the new Papillion hated her, because she targeted her, because Marinette had to give up the box—because she had to give up everything, and now she was content as Marinette.
But it was easier for Alya to think that, because she remembered her. Because Alya wasn’t so tied up in the Miraculous box that all hints of her vanished from memory, that she was demoted from a partner to this… an acquaintance.
Marinette hardly even knew Adrien’s name anymore.
“We used to dance on this rooftop,” he informed Alya, unable to even look at the place anymore. “Ladybug and I.”
“You’ve said that before.”
“I don’t want to forget it,” he informed her, because memories were fragile, fleeting things as it turned out, and they could leave you with a single beat of a moth’s wings.
“She’ll approach you someday.”
“When?”
“Soon.”
“Not soon enough,” Adrien said, and once again he had that urge to climb onto her rooftop, to knock on her trap door like the old days and wait for her to grab a blanket and sit out with him. Those days were better than nothing. Those days were better than now.
How was it that losing one person felt like losing everything? How was it that he was the only person meant to feel like that in the world?
Alya and Nino still had each other, and he?
“Don’t do anything stupid,” Alya begged, because if he did approach her, he would lose his miraculous. The Order of the Guardians practically demanded it. Over and over again, he couldn’t help but think that it would be worth it to forget as well, that Paris could be damned, and so long as he didn’t have to feel like this anymore it would be okay. But that was such a selfish and callous thought, the kind of thing that Gabriel Agreste would think of, rather than Adrien.
He wasn’t like him. He would never be like him.
So he had to sit and wait. Every single day.
***********************************************
He knew it was her when she came out with a black, Agreste-branded umbrella.
Actually, he didn’t know, he just hoped.
Because when she looked at him with those sky-blue eyes, the rainwater trickling off of her lashes—all he wanted was for her to be Marinette.
And then he said her name and it was true.
And then she whispered his and his life was complete.
A few months. Only three months of that. Of his lips on hers, of her hand fitting in between all the spaces in his—and then a new Hawk Moth, a spiteful Papillion.
And then being alone once more, the empty space beside him feeling more devastating because he knew what it was like to have it filled.
He’d find the miraculous someday and put it away, lock it deep within the box that Alya kept hidden in her room. He would never let it see the light of day, just let Nooroo out and the token he was tied to be lost to time.
***************************************************
Whenever it rained, he thought of her.
Whenever it rained, he thought of walking up to her, a new umbrella in hand, and pulling her under it, protecting her from the downpour. He thought of kissing her, like he should have done so many times before, and of her pulling away and warning him that they should get inside, then him asking why, telling the stupid joke that ‘lightning never strikes twice’.
Because the chance of her kissing him again always felt abysmal, and when she did he couldn’t help but gape.
Because now, as a year stood between them and she always acknowledged him last amongst her friends, the idea of his lips touching hers was once again an improbability.
But still, he couldn’t help but think of it, he couldn’t help but get lost in the idea. Even as the rain sank into his skin and made his t-shirt cling to his body, his eyes trained forward as his mind trailed off.
He hadn’t gotten enough sleep again, he’d been too busy watching her the night before. He’d forgotten that Marinette was some miracle of nature, that she almost never got tired.
He could barely keep his eyes open even in a torrential downpour.
“How did I know that I’d find you here?” Said a voice from above. The same song, the same dance as always.
He could only swallow.
The black shade of an umbrella eclipsed the sky over him, providing a momentary reprieve from the cold sting of rain, as a familiar pair of blue eyes looked down at him in amusement, the same as always.
The same as always.
Because he did this too often too, he sat at the bench where she could see him in the rain, waiting for her to realize that he was there. He let the rain wash away any hope of her knowing just as well as it washed away the tightness that always filled his lungs when he thought of her.
And he said goodbye, just as he always wanted to, just as he always wished that he did. She would bring the umbrella over him, he would thank her as he always did, and he would tell her goodbye.
I’ll see you again sometime soon.
God. This was insanity wasn’t it? Repeating the same action over and over again, hoping for a different outcome? But it was always the same.
And somehow it was better than sitting in his old house with his father, who was in just as bad of shape as her, and remembering when things were better all alone. That house could burn up with him inside it and he would have felt nothing, he wouldn’t have even noticed the smoke.
“Hey, are you okay?” Her voice filled his mind, and he could only close his eyes at the sound. “Adrien?”
There was a thump next to him, but he couldn’t be bothered to notice, because, today more than anything, it was too hard.
One year.
A whole year without her. A whole year like that, in that quasi friendship state, waiting for her. One year waiting at the beginning, wanting to start it all over again.
One year remembering when he told himself that he could have had his mother and her, then the crushing realization that in the end, he walked away with nothing. With a father who couldn’t even properly apologize for what he’d done, with a father who couldn’t even remember the past five years. With a dent on the side of his bed where she used to lay and talk to him, one that slowly faded away over time.
With a broken heart, one that he feared would never be repaired.
Was it stupid to cry? He couldn’t help but fear that it was, but that didn’t do much. He cried all the same, wishing that he didn’t.
And then her arms were around him, cradling him closely, and he could pretend that they meant more than they did.
“Adrien, I’m here… I’m right here…”
But you’re not, he wanted to tell her, but you never will be again.
Instead, he held her a little closer, clung desperately to her skin like he could save himself from the raging current threatening to pull him away, from the dangerous thoughts of loneliness that echoed in his mind. He wanted nothing more than to touch her, to press his lips to her forehead and know her skin once again.
But he was just Adrien, and she was Marinette—stuck in the hellish in between.
“I really did love you,” he admitted, the words tearing so softly out of him that he wasn’t sure anyone else could hear him, and her hands only tightened in response, some small part of her calling back, I really did love you too.

can we have a chat noir x reader x ladybug where chat and lady are constantly trying to out due in battles each other for the reader’s attention, even in school with adrian and marionette
a loving feeling
Pairing: Adrien/Chat Noir, Marinette/Ladybug x GenderNeutral!Reader
Here's the first request I got! I literally love this idea so much oh my god. I hope you like it :)
“Adrien, dude, go talk to them. Now’s your chance!“ said Nino, reassuringly patting his best friend on the back. Adrien’s palms sweat just because of the thought of talking to them. It had been so long since he felt anything other than platonic love for somebody and was losing his mind. Adrien knew he wasn’t the only one who saw Y/N as potentially someone who was to be more than a friend. How could he be?
“Go! Now!“ Nino pushed him closer to the infatuating dream of his best friend. Disappearing in a split second he rebounded with his girlfriend.
Adrien made a few steps. It has seemed the person of his dreams was way too far away from him. Fear grew with each step and his heart was now beating in his throat, unable to catch a breath. Yes! They are so close! He can see them, just a bit more. He is already there, just hanging by the tip of a finger... And suddenly he was in a broom closet.
“Oh, Plagg I chickened out again“ Adrien cried, clenching his fists against the wall. The kwami flew around his head in an attempt to catch his gaze.
“Honestly Adrien, you could only talk to them when you were Cat Noir. But when you’re...well you, you lose your mind!“ he spoke “You see, cheese doesn’t do that to a person“
“You’re a kwami“
“My point still stands.“
Adrien banged his hair against the wall. It’s true, he could always talk to them when he was dressed in black. “I'm going to talk to them, today!”
“You go to the same class, you talk to them every day “ Plagg rolled his eyes, getting tired of the same old story his owner has been playing over and over
The blonde boy shook his head trying to talk to Plagg on a serious note “You know what I mean”
Upon entering the class, Marinette stumbled over her thoughts. She had decided she will talk to them today. She had no idea how, but she had put her mind to it. She is doing this.
"Hi, Marinette," said Y/N when they saw the bluenette deep in her thought.
Marinette's eyes widened in surprise, her breath hitching in her throat. She had to process what is happening before she could open her mouth.
"O-oh, hi, Y/N. Are you how? I mean, how you are?" she felt embarrassed by the inability to speak as she tried to collect herself "How are you?"
"I'm good, thanks. Do you want to sit next to me today? Nino and Alya sat together." they questioned, pointing to the couple in love, sat in the second row.
Marinette's face lit up in joy as she shook her head in approval "Yeah, I will". The two sat down in the first row, waiting for the class to start.
"So, Y/N, tell me, um do you- want to-" Blue-haired girl started as the duo collected their bags and headed towards the door. Y/N watched the girl carefully until she was interrupted by a loud cheer behind them.
They turned around, meeting eyes with a pair of green ones that lit under the blonde hair. "Hi, Adrien!" they waved in response.
Marinette's face reddened. It wasn't just because of the Adrien himself who too, made her blush a little. But it was because he could not have found the worse time to come by...
Her fingers twitched as she watched him smile sweetly and sly to the person she was just about to ask out. He had a kind, heart-warming smile on his face, and he was talking so softly to them. His fingers twirled in his blonde hair as he...
Marinette's face widened at the realization. The guy was stealing her date!
"Actually, we were talking you can come back by later" she interrupted blushing Adrien, taking Y/N's hand in hers and walking off. Without thinking, Adrien reached out, grabbing Y/N's hand. His fingers wrapped around their wrist. "Why can't I join you?" he blurted.
"Of course you can!" Y/N exclaimed
"No, you can't. Don't you have a fencing class to attend to?" Marinette fought back, crossing her hands on her chest.
"It got postponed"
"It never does"
"But today it has so I have an hour of free time"
Y/N watched as the two held a strong eye contact filled with rage and jealousy. Their bodies came closer and closer as they fought back and forth for their attention.
Suddenly, the door of the school burst open, shrieks fulfilling the building. A woman dressed in black entered, her ripped dress falling to the floor. Silver hair of hers flowed in the wind as she wrapped her fingers tighter around the machine in her hand. Two rat ears grew on the tip of her head and a tail that followed the theme.
She walked around, shooting every random passenger and turning them into...rats?
"We have to hide!" Y/N exclaimed as they took both of their hands, leading them into a classroom.
Marinette stuttered, ripping their hands apart even though that was the last thing she wanted to do. "I forgot my bag in the other classroom, I have to get that, it's important, you guys go hide now!"
Y/N nodded, running again, leaving Adrien to follow along. "Locker rooms! We can hide there" he said, grabbing them by the hand and running to the secure place in school.
"Chloe! Where are you Chloe!" the rat lady yelled, leading her way through the corridors of the Françoise Dupont High School. "Hide here," he said, showing them a safe place in one of the lockers.
"You too." They said pointing to the one across. Adrien only nodded in response and faking it once they were completely safe. The blonde's legs carried him to the bathroom by the speed of light.
Closing the door he took a moment to take a deep breath and rest his back against the wall. His kwami reappeared in front of his face, waiting for a word. Something. Anything.
"Don't you have a significant other to save, Adrien?"
Adrien got himself on his feet, away from the daydreams. Plagg was right, he did everything better when he was Chat Noir, so saving them should be as easy too. Maybe then he can finally talk to them without interruptions or his own fears.
The blonde nodded. "Plagg claws out!"
Although they knew they could be in danger, Y/N couldn't take being locked up in a locker anymore. She stepped out, only to be met by Adrian's open locker. The rat lady must have got to him.
"Stupid" they hummed to themselves as they looked around, figuring out what to do.
Suddenly, the door to the locker room opened and the infamous black cat costume appeared before them, taking their breath as always. "Well hello I guess we're stuck in danger together," he said flirty "Might as well make the most out of it" he bowed down before them.
"Poor kitty, and where's your lady?" They said, teasingly to the cat boy who so desperately tried to get under their skin.
"Said she will be right back."
And just on queue, the lady in red stormed into the room. Taking a look at Chat Noir once she sighed. "I'm sorry to do this, but it's important. Multimouse, I need you." She handed the already well-known miraculous box to them as they nodded in response.
It was safe to say Chat Noir was losing his mind. His eyes widened at the sudden information, as he stared at them in amazement. "You're Multimouse?!" he squeaked. Thinking back on the previous times Multimouse came to help and he did nothing but flirt with them. There was something that stood out about them and he never knew what. Now, it all made sense.
Then yet again, he wonders how whenever Multimous was around, Ladybug also got way more talkative and goofy and eager for their attention. He remembers all the fights over Multimouse he and the lady had led. It all came together now.
"Of course I am," they said, tying the necklace around their neck and meeting with Mullo, once again.
"I've missed you Y/N," Mullo said, happily flying around.
"I can say the same" they responded, ready to transform "Mullo, get squeaky!"
"Wow," both of the Paris' superheroes were smitten. Stealing a dirty look from each other for one last time they created a plan with Multimouse to defeat Ninkilia. As Ladybug said, she is completely sure the Akuma is in her hand machine.
"That's the plan, just follow my lead" she finished her speech
"As you wish my lady" Multimouse chimed in before Chat Noir could say anything. Ladybug's hot cheeks were prominent through her mask, and the cat looked nothing but jealous.
"R-right, let's go" the girl with spots exclaimed, her cheeks still burning red.
Jumping from the roof, Multimouse teased the villain. "A mouse? No!" Ninkilia yelled. "If you can live in the garbage now, why can't you do it in a form of a true rat itself" she cried as she shot around random people on the street.
"We have to get to her hand machine quickly," Chat Noir said fighting the lady in black. "And maybe then we can go somewhere just the two of us."
He winked at Multimouse who only laughed, and earned a look of pure hatred from Ladybug. Expecting a comment on his own behalf, Chat Noir was surprised by the lady's response. "You don't want to go with him trust me. I know the best ice cream in town."
Multimouse only laughed "Let's get rid of this rat lady first," they said "Multitude!"
"No, not the mice!" Ninkilia desperately tried shooting the little mice around her as they climbed up her legs. Ladybug's yoyo wrapped around her, pinning her to the ground.
"Chat Noir!" Ladybug exclaimed.
"Cataclysm"
The Akuma has been purified and the trio has once more, saved the day. "Pound it!"
"It has been a pleasure working with you" black cat smiled sheepishly, taking the mouse's hand and kissing it softly. "Will I have the pleasure of seeing you again soon?"
"We'll see," they said, signalizing Ladybug it's time to go.
Ladybug pulled them close, taking them by the waist and already feeling her heart beat faster. Multimouse, or precisely, Y/N placed their head in the crook of her neck and sent shivers down her spine. Soon, they were flying through the air, holding just by her yoyo.
"Thank you for choosing me," they said, as they scootched closer to her body, clinging in fear of falling down.
"How could I not?"
Marinette's heartbeat raced faster as they shared a soft smile. If it were up to her, she would like to fight alongside them all the time.

ML AU: In Another Life: Chat Blanc (Part 1)
(This takes place after the NY special,) (So the confession that occurs in Chat blanc occured BEFORE Felix ) (Thanks @purrincess-chat for help talking through the ideas)
-This covers the events that cause Marinette to find out that Chat noir is adrien.
-So the big red carpet event and Adrien wants to take Marinette, his girlfriend.
-They had been dating for sometime, but this would be a first. Marinette was worried she might embarass him. Adrien assured her that she wouldnt, and that he wants to show everyone his amazing girlfriend.
-Sure enough the event arrives and Everyone is talking about her and adrien.
-Paris’ hot new couple! Its everywhere. Considering Adrien’s ads are all over paris, it only made sense that Nadja would cover it. (she also happens to ship it)
-It comes out that stars like Clara Nightingale and Jagged Stone both know this mysterous girl, and both have nothing but amazing things to say about her. Marinette was getting all sorts of publicity. (Annoying chloé and INFURIATING Lila)

-Nathalie is getting worse and Gabriel is getting more desperate. After his failure in new york, he has had ZERO leads on other miraculous and has no idea what to do.
-He needed a special akuma, something to put Ladybug and Chat noir in their place. But everyone is so damn happy! When did Paris become such an unproblematic place? He catches the news of Marinette and Adrien, the Power couple of Paris
- He decides that this was the way to do it. He would break them up. Nooru overheard it and was horrified. Since he was an emotion kwami, he could sense their deep love for one another, those two were soulmates! Which unfortunately only convinced Gabriel that breaking them up would create his greatest Akuma to date.
-So Gabriel goes about his plan to break them up just like in Chat blanc, everything that happens follows the chain of events.
-All the way up until Adrien saves Marinette as Chat noir.
-Marinette finds out the truth and hugs her boyfriend.
-Nathalie tells Gabriel and This makes the villain ecstatic! He now had a leg up!
-He tells Nathalie that he will hatch a plan to snatch the miraculous from him and Ladybug.
-Nathalie... is not for this at all. She has had more time to think and she thinks this is crossing a line. Using his own son like this. Cant he just talk with Adrien?
_____________________________________________
-Meanwhile, Chat noir and Ladybug meet up later, talking about what to do. They know the other’s identity, should they tell Fu? Who saw him transform?
-”I think the only one that saw might be my bodyguard, but he looked away when he let me run after you. So I think we should be safe. Plus, i dont think he would tell anyone if he did know.”
-”Okay, so question is. Do we tell Fu about this?”
-They both think about the matter, it would probably make Fu’s life even harder if he knew.
-”Lets hold off on that.” They both agree.
-”We keep up appearances as Ladybug and Chat noir. So no pda kitty.”
-”Okay....”
-Ladybug looks around to make sure there was no one around before kissing him, cheering him up.
-”So does that mean you arent breaking up with me.”
-Ladybug explains what happened, and Chat noir is pissed at his father.
-”I am talking to my father about this immediately.”
-”He threatened to pull you out of school...”
-”I am not breaking it off with the woman I love. And he is not keeping me from my friends.”
