Surely this cannot be the best use of your time. Not only is it time-consuming, but why would you choose Now of all time to be bitter to other fans? The season is over. Penelope got her HEA. She got everything, canonically. Money, fame, love. You won. Why is it so offensive to you that there are some people critical of her actions? You WON. So why are you so unhappy? If you think what you are doing to other people is indeed a worthy use of your time, I assure you there are better alternatives. I know others have asked you to go touch grass, but here are some specifics. Read a book. Go to a club. Knitting/Crocheting. Put down your phone, get up from whatever horizontal position you're at right now, open the door, and take a walk outside. Cook a nice meal for yourself. Say hi to your neighbour. Watch something else other than Tiktok, Insta or Bridgerton. All of these things take less effort and more productive than typing out angry, mispelled rants then copy/paste them into inboxes of people you don't know and/or cherrypicking their irrelevant statements and/or reading 44k+ words of fics written years ago that you disagree with so you can send out more hateful, mispelled anon rants to people, harassing, insulting REAL people to protect the honour of a FICTIONAL character.

Or at the minimum, have the guts to get off anon and face people yourself. Follow Penelope's example and come into the light, if you idolise her that much.

Nope. Pratchett fan of many years, completely new to Supernatural these past three months (with the exception of Cas' love confession, cuz I think everyone on the internet who didn't know to duck and cover in advance got sp*ilered for it that night in 2020.) Something of a lifelong thing for fictional angels, though.

I went with a quasi-Judeo-Christian-theological, liturgical, and poetic vocabulary for the Heaven and Hell/angel and demon stuff. More straight-up/slightly unintentionally ironic for Aziraphale, who wants to take it all at face value (even when he can't); more filtered through the questions of Milton's Paradise Lost, and more despairing and hurting, for fallen angel Crowley.

Muriel's dialogue has a touch of the innocence and wonder of catechism - a discovery, a flowering that opens up to them through the spoken and written word. They question without hidden motive.

Metatron's got a smidge of the manipulative certainty of commercially-driven televangelism: clinical, cynical, tailored for maximum impact on his target audience (Aziraphale). A performance.

I'd guess the Supernatural writers did much the same, cherrypicking for whichever aspect bolstered their storyline or character at the time! Throw a rock at the English language and you'll hit a Judeo-Christian concept somewhere, somehow. "Grace", "vessel", "the Michael Sword" and so on - that stuff paints a lyrical picture that "essence", "body", and "archangel's avatar" couldn't, because it pulls hard on sources rooted so deep in English prose and poetry that we infer deeper meanings without, necessarily, ever giving them a moment's thought before. I'd guess that Good Omens itself influenced Supernatural, too?

A lot of scriptural and liturgical vocabularly and cadence is hardwired into the lyrical use of the English language via influential sources like the King James Bible and the Book of Common Prayer.

"I'm the one who gripped you tight and raised you from perdition," tells us a boatload about Castiel's mindset before he even reveals to Dean that he's "an angel of the Lord". Then he's taken aback when Dean doesn't believe him - challenges him and keeps on pushing back; Cas expects this shit to be hardwired into Dean's brain and for Dean to respond accordingly by bending at the knees. Shock and awe using language.

They spend most of season 4 in that state of disconnect, barely communicating even when they both try, because Dean's just not doing "because it's God's will/because I say so", not for anyone or anything; he won't respond to that portentous vocabulary and Cas struggles to adapt to that (not least because he gets brutally punished when he tries).

I'll never forget.

Back when they were really trying to draw a line in the sand and make Pewdiepie untouchable, they'd just out and out lie about his record and made him out to be some enormous white supremacist.

He did joke, once, by dressing up as a British soldier and pretending to be an angry Nazi as a joke. The character he was playing for the two second bit was feigning outrage over a thing that'd offend a bigot. That was the joke.

The other time was when he let slip a racial expletive while gaming. Once.

And another time he paid some dudes on 5er to say something insensitive and deliberately offensive, and was surprised they actually did it.

And from all this cherrypicked stuff over a youtube career of utterly harmless shit, a whole bunch of hitpieces formed telling people how "you shouldn't sign off on this behavior, or people that do this behavior." Constantly talking about Nazis, "the far right, white supremacists, and Pewdiepie," like they were just inherently packaged together or something.

The connection was such a ridiculous reach that those that did it should feel absolutely ashamed and embarrassed now, as it wasn't far removed from how ridiculous the Red Scare was made out to be. Pewdiepie was just a Swedish white dude doing edgy jokes with no real malice behind them, his audience was by no means a bunch of white supremacists, and anyone that had watched his work knew it was just benign bullshit, not hate speech. And yet, he was still targeted and given bad press and then wink-nudged and told, "Maaaaybe you should use your platform to promote anti-bad things, like we rally for. ;) ;) ;) ;)"

Translation: Make that hokey apology video, disavow "white supremacy," promise to "be better," and maybe donate that youtube famous money to their political and social causes to overcompensate and prove just how progressive he is, or the reputation damaging via Social Cascade of propaganda would continue.

And predictably, you had sycophants chasing this fire and brimstone shit so hard they bragged about not knowing a thing about Pewdiepie or his work beyond, "he's just another white, Nazi adjacent supremacist. I don't even watch his material! Because I don't platform Nazis!"

Congratulations, you dimwit bitch. You wouldn't even research the material beyond the hitpiece that cherrypicked information, removed context or added context that didn't exist or was utterly irrelevant for the purposes of smearing a dude whose biggest crime was making loads of money for doing nothing much whatsoever, while being a white European, and refusing to cowtow to social parasites. Was utterly proud of not even looking it up, couldn't have been more smug about rejecting "Nazis" on principle.

Brought to you by the unironic, "Everything is sexist, everything is racist, and you have to point it out" crowd, that genuinely believe the default basis for social relations with white people is that racism is inescapable and defacto, just on the basis of being of the white demographic and in the developed world. Nothing can be benign or free of racism, "while America is a white supremacy." (AKA: They view anything capitalist as white supremacist. While the US is capitalist, they believe it cannot NOT be racist. While the US does NOT adopt policies proactively trying to elevate minorities and disenfranchise whites, they will consider it white supremacist.)

With that logic under their belt, it's not just Pewdiepie that's committing social crimes. It's all white people, everywhere, always, forever. Not by the offensive things said, but by the crime of existence. They lead into this conversation and call him a white supremacist and a Nazi while cherrypicking supposed proof of it as evidence to his ill intention, and then the deeper down the rabbithole you go, you learn it was never about anything he said. It was about being a very visible, wealthy white man they could threaten the image and livelihood of.

And it was the wrong decision to make, because a very diverse world witnessed the whole thing. Suffer, you lying bastards. Everybody that witnessed and remembers that will be like a person that saw a narcissistic parent got off on the kid they were abusing.

Thess vs The Usual Aggravations

Well, we're getting more or less back to normal. Temp's back on a phased return, so she's doing fewer hours for a bit, but otherwise we've got everybody in. Well. In theory. I mean, except for when The Other Part-Timer has an appointment that apparently she didn't bother to tell anyone about until it was, "Oh, I have to leave for the entire afternon". And Goblin having an appointment that meant she was out in the morning. And Temp coming in an hour later than she originally said she would. You know - poor communication bullshit that Scruffman lets slide because he dislikes confrontation.

Now, it's nice that we're back to at most low three figures in the typing queue. Like, a little over a hundred. The problem is that the girls are back to the same old bullshit when it comes to the typing. One of the girls, and I have no idea which one, took a bunch of typing out of the queue yesterday morning and put it all back in in the mid-afternoon, which meant that I had to bust my ass if I wanted to have all of the previous day's typing done by close of play (which is our basic target). And today ... well, we didn't quite manage that, but that's only because I got fed up. Only four cases were dumped back int the queue in the mid-afternoon when by timestamp they should have been finished that morning. Just they were Annoyances, one and all. Worse - training Annoyances; ones taking their cues from other producers of Annoyances (and Monstrosities, worse yet) on top of the kinds of mistakes and tripping-over-words you get from a trainee.

I did three out of the four. I refused to get stuck with all four. I absolutely fucking refused. Goblin's in until half-five; she can handle the bullshit. Because, seriously, I am exhausted and in pain and really not feeling well, but I am getting through it because I have next week off and the workload will look bad enough as it is when I get back without being off. Because ... well, seriously. I give the others the consideration of trying to keep things at least a little manageable when they're away - more for the patients than for them, but still. Do they do me the same courtesy? Absolutely not. I wish I knew why the hell I alway seem to end up with colleagues who take ridiculous advantage of my work ethic and basic consideration. There have to be good secretaries out there, right? I can't be the only one. It's not that all my contemporaries in the field are lazy mares with no understanding of what our job means, is it? Because that would depress the hell out of me.

Scruffman sent me an email thanking me for all my hard work the last six weeks. "We'd have been lost without you" is what he said. I swear, though, if the rest of his team don't stop dumping the worst of everything on me, I'm going to end up the one on the sick leave, and I would bet serious money that we won't fare nearly as well if I end up on sick leave. Apparently they can survive losing any number of people for awhile ... as long as that person's not me.

I'd bring up the issues to Scruffman again, but seriously, nothing ever happens, and frankly he shouldn't have to be hovering over his typists to ensure they distribute the workload evenly and don't cherrypick only the easiest and least annoying bits of typing to the exclusion of all else. And that's what he'd have to do, because they might improve for a week but then right back to the laziness when the dust settles. It may not be a reflection on my value to the department, but it's still depressing as fuck when I bring up a complaint and nothing happens. It's not like it's Scruffman's fault that my colleagues are lazy, and there's not much he can do about it. He's spoken to them, but they've just gone back to base lazy soon after. Scruffman can't police them - he has other duties, so all he can really look at is if the typing's getting done, and it is, so ... sucks to be me.

At least there's no overtime.

A9. Who was your first ship?

The earliest ship I remember that I got actually invested in is Reaper76 from Overwatch. I mean, traumatized old gay men who like to shoot at each other and have a HistoryTM? It covers all the basics for me. Also this ship is what made me find AO3, so it kinda introduced me to fandom as a whole and is therefore technically responsible for all the madness that came after it.

B9. Who is your OTP?

You know, I was going to say this is a hard question because I have so many pairings I like in several fandoms and I dont really pick favorites because I like different aspects about them and also Im indecisive. And then I remembered Symbrock. And nothing really comes near the level of absolutely messy devotion of (comics!)Symbrock. So yeah.

C6. Is there anything in canon that made you want to quit the show? What was it? Why do you hate it?

Oh boy, here we go... So not a show, but allllll the shit Cates did with absolute garbage & co and what came after essentially made me quit venom comics and comics in general. Do I even need to explain myself? Like I was keeping up with Venom and also Spider-man and some others because it was fun and enjoyable. And then came the egregious retconning, inconsistencies, character butchering (both how they were written but also literally), characters dying and coming back and dying again and coming back again and fucking gods apparently and how every single issue was The Most Shocking And Dramatic Things The Characters Have Ever Been Through and everything is just edgy and grimdark and angsty and so fucking STUPID and it was just. It wasnt fun or enjoyable anymore, only exhausting and frustrating and sad. And not sad like a sad story makes you feel, but sad like watching something you care about irreparably crash and burn in real time without being able to do anything about it and knowing you can never have it back the way it was (which there is enough of IRL). So I powered through until king in black where I just said "reading this bullshit is draining and depressing and doesnt bring me anything, its not worth it anymore so fuck it" and just stopped. And with my main reason for reading comics gone I ditched marvel comics altogether because lets be honest keeping up with all the different stories and timelines and crossovers and whatnot is exhausting cuz theres just so damn much going on all the time. And why torment yourself with shitty canon when you can have wonderful fanfics tailored to your specific tastes all for free? So I quit comics, read fics instead, got into some new fandoms, indulged my hc and have ever since been living blissfully unaware of the burning dumpster fire (derogatory) that is canon. I only see glimpses of it when it crosses my dash, which I use for cherrypicking for my hc and aggressively ignore the rest.

D10. What is one story idea you really want to read but no one has written yet?

I have a whole lot of story ideas I really want to read (my hcs) that no one has written yet (that would be cuz of me not writing them). But for real, I would love more stories with symbiote & spider-people shenanigans. Like there was this one comic of Peter, Miles and Gwen meeting Venom and fighting Doc Ock toghether and they were kinda buddies? More stuff like that, that has spider/symbiote interaction besides them just trying to kill each other. Maybe it exists and I just havent found it. But like, Venom in spiderverse, they have to team up with the spider gang and they kinda get along because he doesnt have any personal beef with them. He will absolutely recite and discuss Shakespear with that medieval spiderman, be enamored with little Mayday, and be nothing but gentlemanly toward spider ma'am. The other spiders find that "yeah he is freaky and has some dubious morals but isnt actually just an evil monster, he just doesnt like you Peter". The Peter in question does not like it one bit. Him and Venom (barely) tolerate each other, as they always do when they team up, but are constantly petty and passive aggressive towards each other in a funny way, bickering like an old married couple. Because of the nature of their history they also know stuff about each other and will casually drop highly personal details about the other that makes the other spiders go "👀 you sure he's your enemy and not just your ex?". Which Peter likes even less. Other story ideas i desperately need is ANYTHING WITH ANTI-VENOM HOLY SHIT WHERE IS MY BABY!?!?!?! I need stories that let him be a silly dumbass and a pathetic wet beast and occasionally getting railed that dont just exist in my head. But the amount of content on him is just dismal. I often feel like the sole inhabitant of the ghost town that is the Anti-Venom fandom. I've come across one (1) quality fic that portrays him properly (thank you @kitausuret for your invaluable service) and good art is hard to come by compared to other characters. And I realize that if I want more art of him and an Anti-Venom x Agent Venom arch-enemies-to-reluctant-allies-to-even-more-reluctant-friends-to-how-the-hell-did-this-happen excruciating slow burn, I will probably have to do it myself, which hghgnghgnhhh will take forever, but oh well.

I think one reason why intl fans are completely against mhj is because of that info leaking allegation cuz now all stans of all groups are speculating about how any bad press or scandal in the past few years was her doing and this allows them to completely shift the blame from the artists like I’ve seen people allege how those bad lee serafim performance critiques were clearly paid for and started by her. On the other hand hybe has some were prominent company stans. I also think sometimes people have a general hard time just accepting that somebody shitty is partly right and partly wrong as well.

It’s so weird and interesting to see how much practically everybody is leaning into a ‘good guy’ and ‘bad guy’ narrative. Like the cherrypicking of info. I saw somebody say that mhj was saying weird things about Lee serafim and their debut but when you zoom out the truth is that yeah she was saying some super weird stuff about them but also she was standing up for the nj girls cuz their debut was getting pushed back and when hybe was questioned about it they basically shrugged the concerns away. Like dude all of them are creepy but this also shows how little hybe cares about those girls as well.

on the newjeans note I also found it so creepy but concerning how much those young girls are going through turmoil cuz mhj isn’t settling firm boundaries between them like I admit I know that within this industry the line between the managerial staff and artist gets very blurred cuz that’s who you spend the most time with so they’re almost family but still those girls should not have to call you crying worrying about your mental health mhj. I genuinely wonder what’s going on with those girls cuz right now yeah since they’re profitable hybe will want to keep them but clearly there’s a certain callousness with which they’re dealing with them but on the other side mhj is just such a concerning case as well. I hope things work out for them they’re all so young. I know I’m making assumptions but I get so so pissed off at the parents for even putting such young girls in these positions to begin with. I’m sorry this was so long it’s just everybody is extremely favouring one side and I just wanted to vent to somebody who sees that they’re all absolute asses

'oh they were scouted by different company and spent x years there' well apink was trained in cube but president hong decided to let them go and have debut them in different company called 'a cube' and apink members parents were rightfully upset about it yeeears later. trainee transfers are a normal thing? how many boy trainees went through cube after 2016? how many debuted elsewhere... how many times a smaller/broke company gets taken over by bigger company and all trainees are sacked... it just doesn't make the news

all of them, honestly!

ren  isn't  a  collection  of  cherrypicked  traits  from  his  past  incarnations  so  much  as  he  is  a melting pot of  all  of  them.  it  sounds  a  bit  inelegant  to  compare  him  to  a  smoothie,  but  a  smoothie  definitely  feels  like  the  most  accurate  comparison  to  make.  he's  equally  scaramouche  as  he  is  the  kabukimono.  certain  aspects  of  their  personalities,  habits,  likes  and  dislikes  do  tend  to  influence  him  in  specific  ways  —  but ( for example )  i  would  never  say  ren  would  react to something  in  a  manner  that's  one  hundred  percent  scara,  even  when  he's  in  his  most  vitriolic  headspace.  the  balladeer  actively  wanted  to  make  other  people  miserable  to  soothe  his  own  pain;  ren  is  just  tired  and  blunt  and  the  grudges  he  once  used  as  fuel  for  his  cruelest  actions  have  all  effectively  shifted  towards  those  who  actively  hurt  him  (  looking  at  you,  dottore  )  —  meaning  while  he  might  play  at  being  a  force  of  malice,  he  doesn't  hold  any  genuine  ill  will  against  anyone  who  doesn't  provoke  him  first.

by  default,  i  think  he's  generally  pretty  okay  with  that.  this  is  just  who  he  is;  he's  made  his  peace  with  it.  however,  there  are  certain  circumstances  where  he  does  regret  not  being  able  to  lean  into  his  softer  side  more  fully  —  only  for  specific  people.  the  kabukimono  was  undeniably  very  strange,  but  he  was  also  deeply  loved.  there  are  times  when  ren  quietly  does  wish  he  could  bring  more  of  that  gentle  side  of  himself  to  the  forefront  for  the  sake  of  those  few  he  genuinely  cares  about.  maybe  if  he  made  himself  more  likable,  they  would  be  happier.

not  to  throw  kazuren  into  everything,  but  it  is  a  reoccurring  theme  in  his  relationship  with  kazuha  —  because  ren  has  this  very  idealized  view  of  kazuha  in  his  head.  he  sees  him  as  someone  kind  and  forgiving  and  gentle  who  deserves  only  the  best  he  has  to  offer  —  and  he  occasionally  pressures  himself ( or scorns his inability )  to  be  more  sociable  and  human  because  he  assumes  that's  what  he  would  prefer. keyword being assumes; he doesn't really discuss these thoughts with anyone.

it's  just  hard  to  feel  envious  towards  someone  you  used  to  be  —  towards  someone  you  still  are,  but  have  grown  so  wounded  and  warped  by  the  cruelty  of  your  life's  experiences,  you  can  no  longer  become  that  person  beyond  what  fleeting  snapshots  escape  when  your  guard  is  down.  he  is  gentle,  he  is  soft,  but  he  cannot  force  that  side  of  himself  to  the  surface  at  will  —  and  he's  largely  made  his  peace.  however,  there  are  still  some  people  he  can't  help  but  feel  deeply  insecure  that  they  deserve  a  better  part  of  him  than  what  they're  currently  getting.

I def agree that there were loads of great moments in both Stern interviews but like how can you not dislike that man Jen 😩 He’s literally one of the most dislikable, unpleasant pricks out there. So this reads like someone who hasn't listened to his shows in the last 10-15 years or so, but for me, it comes down to I love the parts I love, and I gtfo for the parts I don't, I'm an adult like that, lulz. I started listening to him after he had already mellowed out quite a bit, I know the crazy shock-jock early years would have been unlistenable to me (and he has gone on record to say unlistenable to him as well), but the period when I tuned in every day as part of my commute and work life? Yeah, I enjoyed it--and when I didn't love it (my god, do I hate most of his staff and regular callers), I just switched over to something else. The stuff I like about the dude? He's funny, smart, neurotic, a world-class interviewer, in love/borderline obsessed with his wife, a good dad to this three daughters, a ride-or-die for his black co-host (her cancer battle, what he went through to help her, my god, it's weep-worthy), a good ache for any "missing NYC vibes." It's a shame that his network (team??) makes it so hard and/or expensive to just cherrypick what you want to hear from his shows, and he HAS dialed down how much he works by a lot, but I would pay cash money to hear the old news hour, the interviews, the shootin' the shit with Robin about his weekend (and I would skip just about everything else, but that would still be about 3 hours a day back in the day). I've listened to him in full, in context, off and on for years, so maybe I'm too compromised for people who are easily offended, but I find quite a lot to like about him, sorrrrrry! if you look up articles about ireland from israeli news sources, they're all very negative.

examples:

while ireland is a predominantly catholic country and claims of antisemitism aren't unfounded, these articles indulge in the israeli pastime of claiming that they represent judaism itself, and thus any slight against them is a slight against jews. and you can see this in individuals as well. r/israel (suggestion 1 - antisemitism claims) (suggestion 2 - irish hate) is a good place to look if you want to see regular people doing these things.

when people are exposed to a certain viewpoint 24/7, a lot of times they'll adopt it for themselves.

oh but i might be accused of cherrypicking these, so literally just google the names of the articles and see what else is on those websites about ireland. put in at least a little bit of legwork.

So we watched "The Last Voyage of Demeter" (2023)

Not gonna lie, we've been looking forward to this one for months now ever since we first saw the trailer. Now as for whether it held out or not...

Plot Accuracy: 7, now honestly it almost was a solid 8 because they actually put some Demeter quotes from the book logs, as well as used correct character names and death order. However, the addition of 2-3 new characters (doctor, mystery lady, and the kid) threw us off a bit ngl. I would have still put it at a solid 8 up until the halfway point despite it though if not for the last 40ish minutes or so. The whole point of the Demeter was that is was a tragedy. These people never had a chance to make it out alive and the start of the movie even comments on that by saying there were no survivors. Whoever directed this movie clearly disagreed with that narrative because guess how the movie ends. But I did love how it captured the horror of the experience and did mostly follow the plot because that part was honestly well done.

Movie plot: 6, sadly. The aforementioned end of the movie is mostly to blame for that. Like I said it does follow book plot quite well overall and it is a well made supernatural boat mystery/horror. I honestly love the cgi, music, and atmosphere. I've seen people say they're put off by the way Dracula looks, and while I do agree to an extend I do love how much it reminds you of Nosferatu (1922) design for Drac. Having him look so gargoyle-like was honestly p neat, even if keeping that design after he came to Britain was... a choice. Very Van Helsing (2004) as Kal would say. Honestly we were very much vibing w the movie up until around the halfway point.

Look the actors gave their best but the movie just fell... flat. I don't know whether it was the dialogue or the very caricature-like characters or even the three added characters but I honestly had a hard time getting myself to care for them. Kal says it's because of the false hope they try to give you with 'maybe they'll live' despite knowing how it ends, but I say it's a bit more than that. Also the 'lone survivor seeking revenge' ending just begging for a sequel? Look, I could forgive the lady lasting that long before turning because of the blood transfusion, we see the same thing happening in the original with Lucy; but I can't explain the sheer disappointment we experienced seeing the doctor survive to the end.

Like if I went into this movie not knowing anything about Dracula I would have made a few jokes about it being cliche and put it under 'cool looking but unmemorable movie'; but as a Dracula fan? Do expect some frustration with it if you wanted it to be a true adaptation.

I'm treating it the same way I do Dracula (2020). Cherrypicking which parts of it I consider canon and ignoring everything else. Just get rid of the new characters and the movie is honestly p neat. Not as good as I expected but we definitively saw worse things that I can tell you.

by all means come n plot with me!! ♡ it's been a long time since we wrote together, and i'd love to get back to it! :) just mentioning ahead of time, i don't have a bioshock setting for leon available just yet, it's a bit of a difficult setting to fit him into because of bioshock's narrative not really lining up edge to edge with leon's influences and experiences, and with the storybeats that shape his character in his main resident evil setting being so integral to how he looks at everything, transposing that over onto bioshock's plotline & universe is a challenge, (bioshock is very linear where as in leon's other alternate universe settings i can place him at the fringe of things / cherrypick from miscellaneous events to build his place in the narrative, and i'm having a hard time doing that with bioshock) but i'm sure we'd be able to figure something out, in fact i look forward to it! i'm curious about how breccan and mason's characters have evolved, since when we last wrote, they were brand new muses, if my memory serves me right. send me their pinterest boards? here's leon's! it's a bit piecemeal but, i think you'll get a general understanding of his character from it.

Okay I'm going to be the annoying asshole who's going to be pedantic -- I'm not making an argument one way or another on how you pronounce "gif" but I am going to gripe about why this specific gif gets my goat

English is basically, at it's miserable black heart, a frankenstein language. Thanks to a lot of assorted conquering, English as we know it is made up of the desecrated corpses of a lot of other languages; in this case I'm specifically focusing on the Germanic bits and the French bits.

In French, the standard grammar rule is that if a G is followed by an I or an E, it will be pronounced as a soft G ("j"). Anything else, and it's pronounced as a hard G. It's also why we have words like: Gentle, Giraffe, Giant, Germ, Gym, etc etc, that we pronounced with a soft J. Those are all words we got from French, and so they follow the French linguistic rule. If the G is followed by an A, O, U, or any constant, then yes it would be pronounced as a hard G.

Then you have words like "Give". It has an I but doesn't followed the rule! That's because Give has a germanic root, and doesn't follow the French rule about softening G's.

Everything in that gif is cherrypicked, they either are french words that are followed by something other than I/E, or else they're non-French words that don't use that rule. English is a shitshow and we have a bunch of different linguistic conventions!

So, can you pronounce it "GIF" with a hard G? Yes, absolutely. You're borrowing the hard G from Graphic. Makes sense.

So, can you pronounce it "GIF" with a soft G? Yes, absolutely. The G is followed by an I and you're following a basic English convention, it would feel intuitive to pronounce it like that!

So, can you say Jolden, Jalaxy, Juardian, or any of the other dumb as fucking dirt examples in the gif above? No because that actively BREAKS all conventional pronunciation rules and you sound like a fucking idiot for suggesting it.

Let's settle this.... Once and for all!
