Had a coworker tell me they hadn’t texted once because of the time. “I didn’t want to wake you.”

I stared at them through the dawning realization that they lived in a world where that was remotely possible. “My phone is on do not disturb if I’m sleeping. Why would I let random texts wake me up? My sleep is important.”

Equally baffled they replied, “What if someone at work needs you?”

“I am not a manager. No one at work will ever need me badly enough to interrupt my sleep. If I’m not working then there’s no reason to be calling me.”

“Not even if you need to cover?”

I laughed, “I don’t need to cover. They could ask me to cover but good luck getting ahold of me if I’m sleeping.”

They looked distressed at this idea.

To console them I added, “I have important people like my mom and my wife set to override. If they call they get through no matter what.”

There was a small pause before they asked, “You can do that…?”

So friendly reminder. Become unreachable. Work does not need you that badly. Sleep.

Don’t see anyone on here talking about it yet, but if you’re in Canada: that aggravating age verification bill that got pushed through in the UK? Well, we have a similar one that failed in Parliament a few months ago, but now it’s being pushed forward again.

We’re seeing how that stupid bill is being implemented in the UK, so if we don’t want this bill sneaking it’s way in, we gotta start talking up too.

yeah actually we removed the big bad wolf from the little red riding hood story because portraying violence against minors is really messed up. yeah. yeah also the wolf narrative was really predatory and had had some icky grooming vibes and a fable meant for literal children shouldn’t have implied p*do shit and grape so now little red riding hood goes into the woods and nothing happens and she goes to grandma’s house. don’t worry our kids will still stick to the path and know not to follow to wolves implicitly because we told them to and children should always do as their told. just like little red riding hood does now.

Infamously Picky Food Blogger! Yan Wushi x Disgruntled Cafe Owner/Barista! Shen Qiao

Yan Wushi complaining about the drink he ordered (for the 5th time this week) and Shen Qiao just goes "no one is forcing you to drink it, or order it, or even come to this cafe".

He also refuses to drink or eat anything that Shen Qiao himself did not make. He made Shiwu cry the first time he came in.

Please consider: single parent Shen Qiao taking care of toddler Shiwu and he's barely scraping by with the bills. One day while working at his shitty job a rich guy takes a liking to him (it's Yan Wushi. He's not just any rich guy. He's a Terrible rich guy)

Yan Wushi essentially hunts Shen Qiao down after that to semi forcibly make him his sugar baby. It freaks SQ out a lot at first, until they formally decide on an arrangement. No sugar daddy stuff just... seeing each other. Company for a lonely old guy.

It's keeping food on the table for Shiwu, so Shen Qiao can make it work. He can deal with taking embarrassing photos in the ""clothes"" Yan Wushi sends. He can tolerate the fancy dinners and the warm hand on his thigh after a glass of wine has him feeling a littler looser than normal. The way his stomach curls when Yan Wushi growls, "My A-Qiao," against the shell of his ear.

That's all fine. He's doing what he has to do and totally doesn't need to address the constant butterflies in his chest when he's around. Nor the way he nearly forgot the entire reason for doing this when his fingers were tangled up in YWS's hair, lost in the press of lips along his jawline, only thinking about how right it felt to have his hands on him-how badly he needed them to be everywhere.

How bad he needed to have morning coffee with him before Shiwu comes stumbling out bleary eyed. To banter with him over a glass of wine, glaring and biting back quips while silently admiring the hook of his sneer. To return from wherever the day took him to that rich laugh, warm sturdy arms that he can never keep away from his waist folding him against his chest; pulling him home. To know this touch and this presence every day in every way-

But. But he's just in it for the money.

Obviously. Just the money.

In a first for Canadian paleontology, a Cretaceous fossilized dragonfly wing, uncovered in Alberta's Dinosaur Provincial Park, has been identified as a new species. It's also the first known dragonfly fossil from Canada's dinosaur-aged rocks. The find, led by McGill University researchers, sheds light on a 30-million-year gap in the evolutionary history of dragonflies. The fossil was discovered in 2023 by a McGill undergraduate student during a vertebrate paleontology field course led by Prof. Hans Larsson.
