Columbo and the Knight (1984)

put me in the universe where Columbo ran through the 1980s and had a crossover episode with Knight Rider. I think they deserved it, and I am not just saying that because they're my two favorite Old Shows. @telebeast wrote a little fanfic blurb about it and I HAD to visualize it into a comic (which is also the longest comic I have finished thus far at five pages...), so writing credit goes to them.

this is pretty much just an angsty "what if". i spent far too much time on the background & struggled with rivulet and moon. whoops.

some writing under cut, felt like it

weaving through the collapsed superstructure with ease, the semi-aquatic adapted slugcat halted right before a pipe that lead the chamber's entrance. "to a friend... if she is somehow still alive." that was what the fallen god had said. even he was uncertain if his dear friend was still alive. the slugcat stood still, folding its ears and gills backwards as it stood still, the words still in it's mind. and as effortlessly as it had woven through the collapsed structure, it slid through the pipe and danced across the water to the chamber. but the sight that met it made it freeze. the fallen god they'd stood by just a few cycles before had a tone in his voice that sounded like he had a feeling his friend should still be alive.

yet she wasn't. there lie her puppet unconcious on a heap of rusted metal in a puddle of water, umbilical wires torn. the slugcat clutched the rarefaction cell it had taken. it stared in disbelief. there, right in front of it, a dead god from an ancient civilization. it only knew something had gone terribly wrong for a god to be lying dead. yet, it still, though hesitantly, swam over to the puppet, sitting down right beside it and nudging it, hoping it was just in some sort of temporary unconcious state. no matter how much it tried to wake her up, nothing. not a single sound, other than the puppet's metal scraping against the metal it lied on and the soft vocalizations from the slugcat itself. and the realization had set in. there wasn't any sound from the structure either. the only sound it had heard on the way was the splashing in the water as it swam through it with ease.

the slugcat stood still, the sunlight bathing it and the puppet in a soft, comforting warm light. it felt almost like a 'could've been' as it stared at the puppet, before gently putting the mass rarefaction cell down besides the corpse, and reluncantly taking it's leave from the chamber, giving one final glance to the corpse of a fallen god, hoping she had somehow ended up elsewhere in the cycle, before slipping through the pipe.
