are they mean, or are they really that ignorant?
they don’t understand what it means to constantly worry about their condition worsening.
they don’t understand what it’s like to wake up and feel like they’re in a time loop.
they don’t understand how much pain we have to tune out to do what they do with ease every day.
they don’t seem to want to understand.
people I love, not wanting to understand me.
it’s a pain that rivals my deformities.

Sasza
[Large Text: Sasza]
Hi! My name is Sasza and I use he/him pronouns. I am a disabled artist who loves to write and draw characters like me! I am autistic, (mildly) intellectually disabled and have several physical conditions including-but-not-limited-to dyspraxia, severe hyperkyphosis, cranial nerve diseases (causing double vision, chronic pain and a facial difference among other things), and hypermobile joints. Sometimes I use a cane. I'm very passionate about accessibility and disability representation in all kinds of media - books, comics, video games, and any other kind of art that's out there!
Bert
[Large Text: Bert]
Hello! I'm Bert (previously Mason), and I use he/they pronouns. I am a writer who loves to write plays and fiction with characters like me and my friends. I am autistic and have ADHD, I have psychotic PTSD and a DID system. Physical health-wise I have migraines, fibromyalgia, and a lateral lisp. I love talking about representation and ways we can make a kinder and more inclusive space everywhere we go.

Hi, I’m sparrow, they/he for me. I’m a disabled artist who makes a lot of disabled characters like myself and probably like a quarter of the world. I have autism and ADHD, among other brain things, as well as chronic pain in both my jaw and my knee and ankle. I also have POTS and some sort of sleep disorder. I am a sometimes cane user as well. My known disabilities are pots, ganglion cysts, nerve damage, tics, autism (level unknown), asthma, GERD, anxiety and psychosis. I have a metal implant, use a cane and am mostly verbal and use aac infrequently. I have experience with temporary palsy, needing carers (family members who stepped up, not hired carers) and being in a wheelchair, though I currently don't have any of those.
Virus

I have Hypermobile Ehler Danlos Syndrome along with it's fun co-morbidities (MCAS, POTS, Gastroparesis, Fibromyalgia, and Von Willebrandes). I also have Pan-Hypopituitarism which is the following: Adrenal Insufficiency, Hypothyroidism, Diabetes Insipidus, Precocious Puberty, Growth Hormone Deficiency, Hyperprolactinemia/galactorrhea, as well as High Estrogen and Testosterone issues. I have Pituitary Dwarfism/Proportional Dwarfism, Myoclonic Epilepsy, and a Speech Disorder. I used to have a Port-a-cath, Picc-Lines, and a feeding tube, amongst many other things. Phew, now that that's over. I love every art form with a favour towards music, writing and the fiber arts. I love seeing representation no matter how big or small especially in medias that rep is often glossed over!

[Large Text: Icarus]
Hello all! My name is Icarus (He/Him). I'm a new mod here and a writer of original work (Primarily contemporary short fiction and cosmic horror) with some fanfiction on the side. I have been diagnosed with ADHD, autism, PTSD, Tourette's Syndrome along with several other mental and physical health conditions. I also had epilepsy, asthma, and a heart condition as a child but have since grown out of them. I am currently seeking a diagnosis for something causing a few different symptoms including chronic pain, mobility issues, sensitivity in my joints/bones, progressive vision loss (Currently to the point where I have very little to no peripheral vision), and dizziness/fainting episodes. I am a full time cane user at the advice of my physio. I am also a gay trans man and in full-time university studies.
Jess
[Large text: Jess]
Hey y'all! I'm Jess, and I use she/her. I'm 35, and I work full time behind the scenes in the grocery industry (in an office, designing shelf layouts!). I enjoy writing and reading slice-of-life stories mostly. I especially like exploring how certain magical elements can be parallels for disability. I also do art, including some 3D illusion chalk art. As for my disabilities: I have multiple sclerosis, and a few issues that have come from that, including severe permanent damage from optic neuritis. I was briefly 100% blind in my left eye, but a small amount of vision returned. The residual vision causes some hard-to-describe double vision, so I wear a completely opaque occlusive contact lens on my bad eye to help me see more clearly. I also had a period of time when I suffered from paroxysmal kinesigenic dyskinesia, a rare movement disorder. I also have a body-focused repetitive behavior disorder (dermatillomania) and visible scars from that. I'm looking forward to being helpful!

Born in England in 1682, as a sailor Benjamin Lay witnessed the brutality of the slave trade first hand. The experience guided him towards an early embrace of abolitionism, especially after witnessing a slave commit suicide to escape abuse. Benjamin eventually settled in the British colony of Pennsylvania, where he scandalized his fellow Quakers with intense public protests and acts of “guerilla theatre” against slavery.
Barely four feet tall, with dwarfism and a spinal condition known as hyperkyphosis, “Little Benjamin” (as he called himself) once stood outside a Quaker meeting in the snow… barefoot and with no coat. He positioned himself in the gateway leading to the meetinghouse, ensuring that each congregant would pass by him. When they expressed concern for his health he responded that slaves had little protection against the elements, and that the congregants should show the same concern for them. At a large annual Quaker gathering, Benjamin gave a fiery anti-slavery speech grounded in Biblical verse. He ended by plunging a sword into a Bible he had hollowed out, which contained an animal bladder filled with blood-red juice. Blood appeared to spray out of the Bible. Benjamin further shocked the audience by proceeding to splatter slave-owning Quakers in the congregation with the Bible’s “blood.” The message was clear: supporting slavery was akin to murdering the Word of God.
During his life, “Little Benjamin” wrote over 200 pamphlets, condemning animal cruelty, imprisonment, and capital punishment. He singled out slavery, however, not merely as a cruel practice… but a demonic one. Benjamin Lay’s language was uncompromising: those who practiced slavery bore the “Mark of the Beast,” and were responsible for creating Hell on earth. He fiercely called out his own Quaker community to take a stand and expel all church members who owned or traded in slaves. Benjamin Lay also boycotted the slave-labor industry by making his own clothes. In 1738, a printer he had befriended published his book “All Slave-Keepers That Keep the Innocent in Bondage, Apostates.” It was the most militant anti-slavery tract to date. The printer was Benjamin Franklin, who kept his own involvement anonymous.
In his later years, Benjamin Lay embraced a self-sufficient and hermetic lifestyle, living in a cave out in the Pennsylvania countryside with a constructed entryway to protect from the elements. He filled the cave with books of poetry, theology, and history; spun his own flax clothing; kept goats for milk; gardened; harvested from fruit trees he had planted; and made his own honey by attending to an enormous beehive.
In 1758, when the Pennsylvania Quakers passed a resolution disciplining any slave owners and traders, Benjamin exclaimed “I can now die in peace.” He did so the following year. Decades after his death, Quakers would rise to the forefront of the abolitionist movement: many of them kept images of Benjamin Lay in their homes as a source of inspiration.

Discover the Benefits of Chiropractic Care in Oakville: What You Need to Know
Did you know that regular visits to a chiropractor can not only help relieve your discomfort but also save you money on pharmaceutical costs? Recent studies have shown that patients who receive chiropractic care can reduce their medication expenses by up to 85%.
Should you be seeking a chiropractor in Oakville, rest assured that regular visits can provide a plethora of benefits beyond mere cost savings on medication. Studies reveal that a whopping 77% of individuals who undergo chiropractic care describe it as "very effective." Here are some of the benefits you can reap from this form of therapy:
Reduced scoliosis symptoms
For individuals suffering from scoliosis, chiropractic care may be a promising option as it has been shown to improve the Cobb angle (which measures the side-to-side deformity of the spine). Research carried out in 2016 revealed that five children who had scoliosis demonstrated progress in their Cobb angle subsequent to receiving eight weeks of chiropractic therapy. Notably, significant improvements were observed within just 4 weeks of commencing the therapy.
Improved posture
Chiropractic treatment has the potential to correct poor posture caused by excessive sitting. In a 2017 case study, a 27-year-old woman suffering from back pain, neck pain, and headaches due to hyperkyphosis posture (commonly known as hunchback posture) underwent 30 treatments over 6 months. The study found that she experienced significant improvement in her posture and relief from pain in her head and neck.
Less pain
For those seeking pain relief, a visit to a chiropractor may be a viable option. According to statistics, chiropractic techniques have been found to be 40% more effective than medical care in treating lower back pain.

Advantages of Chiropractic Therapy in Toronto
Tumblr media
There are millions of people who are dealing with chronic pain and some of them completely depend on medication. In such condition, in such conditions, they are looking for an alternative to the medication which is why chiropractic therapy in Toronto is the best option to opt for.
Here is a list of the advantages of chiropractic therapy.
Helps to improve neck pain
Neck pain is a typical issue, particularly if you spend a lot of time sitting, frequently craning your neck to use a phone, or have poor posture. By realigning your spine and releasing tension in your neck muscles, a chiropractor may be able to reduce your neck pain. By altering the levels of neuropeptides in your blood, cervical spine manipulation may offer short-term neck pain relief. Your nervous system produces proteins called neuropeptides, which act as neurotransmitters or hormones.
No need to rely on pain relievers
Opioid painkillers are frequently prescribed to people with chronic pain in order to assist them to manage their misery. However, receiving chiropractic care might reduce your need for these painkillers. Adults who went to a chiropractor were less likely to fill an opioid prescription for their pain than those who only saw their doctor, according to a study.
Reduction in osteoarthritis symptoms
Osteoarthritis pain results from the rubbing together of the ends of your bones in a joint due to cartilage deterioration. Some chiropractic adjustments could help realign your joints and lessen the amount that your bones scrape against one another. Chiropractic manipulation, according to specialists, may decrease the progression of arthritis by enhancing the condition of the joint capsule, bone, and cartilage.
Reduces headache symptoms
Treatment for tension headaches and headaches that start in your neck may be successful with spinal manipulation. It is advised that 6 to 8 sessions of cervical and upper thoracic spine manipulation be used to treat chronic headache sufferers since they are more helpful at reducing pain than movement and exercise. This remained the situation after three months.
Best treatment option for chronic back pain
Chiropractic care may be less expensive than standard care for persistent low back pain. Patients who received chiropractic care paid less for their care in total. Additionally, the study found that their course of therapy was shorter than that of patients receiving traditional medical care.
Helps to improve posture
Chiropractic care can help you improve your posture, especially if it was brought on by too much sitting. After receiving chiropractic care, those who have hyperkyphosis posture or other problems can find relief. Less influence will be exerted on body language in this manner.
Improvement in athletic performance
Experts claim that spinal modifications may enhance your sports performance. This might be brought on by more flexible joints, less discomfort, and less tissue constriction. The use of chiropractic adjustments to treat pain brought on by an injury may be successful. These are the advantages that you can get from chiropractic therapy in Toronto. If you want to get rid of this kind of issue, it is best to contact a chiropractic therapist.

#Hyperkyphosis is an excessive curvature in the thoracic #spine (mid-back), which generally increases with age and affects 20-40% of older adults. 🚶‍♂ It is one of the most common spinal deformities we see in the clinic. 🏃‍♂ If you have this unhealthy #posture you are at risk of chronic problems such as: • Increased frequency of pain; • Hip and knee problems; • Poor respiratory function; • Mood changes; • Morbidity (disease) and mortality (death). Hi, I am writing and drawing a comic and have a character with russell-silver syndrome, one of which her related symptoms is kyphosis. I have found various accommodations that she can use in the story and am pretty pleased with her writing. However, it is very hard for me to find reference images for how to draw kyphosis , even if i search up using the not-ideal and bad term ‘hunchback’. If there is any advice you have or people in your audience who know where to find reference images or resources, that is appreciated. Sorry if phrasing is peculiar
Hi!
I don't have RSS, but I have hyperkyphosis!
A lot of the medical drawings that come up on Google are kinda oversimplified but accurate! I can try listing some things that would be great to include;
The head goes far forward. Try drawing her neck on an angle rather than straight.
If it goes really forward, she could have some degree of underbite (like I do).
There will be a hump on her upper back, it will start right after her neck ends. It could go through the rest of her back and make it seem round as a whole, or just be a visible bump under the neck.
Her shoulders will go inward and look much rounder than usual. Don't give her a very square-y frame there.
She will look shorter. How much will depend on the severity of her kyphosis, but she will.
If her kyphosis isn't very severe, she would be able to "straighten" her back and not show most of the above (other than the hump itself). Most of us can't keep this up for long, I for example start to feel pain and other issues comically quickly, so I rarely bother. But if you ever want her to get slightly taller to maybe reach for something, she would probably be able to.
Remember that this is a chronic pain condition. I readjust how I sit, crack my neck, stretch, and do weird neck movements a lot to mitigate it at least a bit. Some of these mannerisms could be nice to include!
I'm not familiar with any visual tutorials for drawing kyphosis, but if any followers could help out, it would be great!
Thanks for your ask!

Bruno’s abdomen: my almost medical opinion
I've seen a lot of interesting posts on this topic, such as this and this and many more, so I wanted to investigate it too. And since I am pursuing a medical degree, this post will deal specifically with the possible pathological causes of the "mystery stomach"™ @glitternightingale (I hope it's okay that I tagged you)
Warnings: anatomy, biomechanics, medical terms, naked (?) Bruno from animation test, just nonsence?
So.
Bruno has a posture disorder. Literally in every scene with him, you can see how his head protrudes too much in relation to the rest of his body, and his back is "round".
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The way I see it, this type of posture disorder is a kyphotic-lordotic posture (2nd type in this picture):
Tumblr media
The curvature of the thoracic region is called kyphosis, the curvature of the lumbar region is called lordosis. In this type of posture disorder these curvatures are enlarged, so the terms "hyperkyphosis" and "hyperlordosis" are often used.
A kyphotic-lordotic posture is characterized by this:
Increase in all the curves of the spine, forward tilt of the head, neck, shoulders, protrusion of the abdomen, straightened knees, flabby abdominal muscles, and possible ptosis of internal organs due to weak abdominal press.
So, in this case, the protrusion of the abdomen is caused by displacement of internal organs under pressure from the "overhanging from above" thoracic spine and thorax in general, and from the lumbar spine in hyperlordosis (from behind). But besides this, with this type of posture disorder, not only displacement of organs is possible, but also their prolapse (splanchnoptosis in scientific terms, or just ptosis) due to the weak musculature of the front abdominal wall. And this increases the protrusion of the abdomen.
Bruno's asthenic/ectomorphic constitution, which is characterized as follows:
High height, narrow, flat chest, sloping shoulders, long neck, thin and long limbs, elongated face, poorly developed musculature, pale, thin skin, internal organs (heart, lungs, intestines, etc.) of relatively small size. People with the asthenic type are characterized by increased excitability of the nervous system, a tendency to ptosis (prolapse) of internal organs, neurosis, hypotension, tuberculosis, peptic ulcer.
may have contributed to this.
In addition to poor posture, ptosis can also be caused by lifting weights. Bruno single-handedly transported a couple of barrels and a large armchair to his room, and also ran around the house with buckets of putty, which must not have been easy either.
Thus, the causes of the protruding abdomen may be:
1. Kyphotic-lordotic posture;
2. Ptosis of internal organs;
3. Weakness of the muscles of the anterior abdominal wall, which cannot restrain the pressure of the organs.
Now let's consider the question of why the belly appears and disappears.
In my opinion, it all depends on the position of the spine. Let's start by looking at what proper posture looks like.
Tumblr media
Normally, the perpendiculars dropped from the shoulder girdle line and the lumbar line are on the same axis. In the picture I have marked it with a red line.
Now let's look at these frames.
Tumblr media
When the shoulder girdle and lumbar spine are on the same line, there is no belly (1st picture). This happens because neither the thoracic spine (above) nor the increased curvature of the lumbar spine (behind) presses on the organs. But as soon as the thoracic spine overbalances and leans forward, the pressure on the internal organs increases and the belly appears (2nd picture).
The similar thing happens in these frames. But in this case there is overextension of the lumbar spine (hyperlordosis) in the second frame, and therefore the belly appears again.
Tumblr media
Hyperlordosis again (this frame probably shows it most clearly).
Tumblr media
And finally we can see it in the movie.
Tumblr media
If the protruding abdomen was caused by excess subcutaneous fat, changing the position of the spine would only slightly reduce the belly, but wouldn't completely remove it.
As for more severe pathologies such as ascites or hepatosplenomegaly, I think this is unlikely because Bruno has no risk factors for diseases that cause them (such as cirrhosis of the liver and heart failure).
Of course, it is unlikely that the animators in creating Bruno model thought about such pathologies as splanchnoptosis and weakness of the muscles, but posture disorders are quite possible.
I don't pretend to be correct in my opinion based on my meager medical knowledge and I realize that it's probably TOO MUCH, but maybe someone was interested in reading this. Anyway, I'm sorry for this rambling and thank you if you read to the end :) Any feedback is welcome!
