Hello! I understand that naming characters can be difficult, I also understand that when we create AU's in which a character is trans or hiding and need to create a deadname/fake name it can be a struggle. HOWEVER-

When it comes to naming Black OC's or giving characters like Sirius and Regulus genderbent/deadnames I will not take any excuses for things like "Siriana" and "Regina". That is about the only family in canon who already HAS a naming convention, and yes, I realise not all of them follow it. However most DO.

So! For your perusal, I have taken the liberty of spending two weeks of my life scrolling Wikipedia to find a list of constellations, star names and star nicknames that could be used instead! Please use them I beg of you.

As a helpful guide, any names already used in canon are starred. Any names that MIGHT be used in canon (it's been ages since I've read the actual books, forgive me if I've missed any) are double starred.

When the Stellaron's corruption sets in, it spreads fast.

Dan Heng spends the first few weeks refusing to believe that there's anything wrong.

Stelle is fine.

Sure, she gets tired easily these days and refuses to eat more often than not, but she's fine.

She laughs, bright and happy, as usual, and she invades his space, making herself comfortable on his futon night after night, as usual.

She traces her favourite constellations on his back, draco and hydrus and vulpecula, and asks him to read to her, her head pillowed on his shoulder and their fingers interlaced, his voice lulling her to sleep.

Things are the same, a steady constant. He wakes to Stelle sleeping next to him, her breathing relaxed and even, and goes to sleep with her tucked against his side, her heart beating steadily in time with his, an all too familiar sound by now.

Stelle is fine.

Until she isn't.

When he sees her go down in a fight, it feels like his heart stops beating, and every part of his body goes numb.

His memory is a blurry mess after he sees her fall to the ground, the sight of her blood tainting the pure white snow a bright red forever etched in his memories.

The only thing he remembers is that one minute he wasn't anywhere near Stelle, and then the next minute he was crouching down beside her prone body, his clothes and his hands stained with blood and a constant stream of no, no, no ringing in his head as he pulled her close.

That's when he realises that Stelle isn't fine.

Her skin is pale and sickly, and her movements are sluggish and uncoordinated; she is nothing like the person who had gone up against a Doomsday Beast after waking up without her memories.

He'd never thought that there was anything weak about her—she always burned too bright for him to ever think that—but when he looks at her now, he wants to shield her away from the rest of the world.

"I'm fine," Stelle tells him, an easy smile on her face.

But, he sees the way her hands tremble, notices the way her face twists when the pain becomes too intense and unbearable, keeps track of the ever growing black lines that trail up her arms.

She's not fine.

He was foolish to pretend otherwise.

Day 4: Reticent

Twelve steps across the black marble foyer being him to the security desk. Perhaps they know his face, perhaps they do not, but ‘tis quickest for Zenos to show them his identification and announce the reason for his arrival. They bid him proceed; the elder of the two guards does recognize him, and attempts a polite greeting, but his back is already turned.

Twelve more steps bring him to three sets of mythril-bright doors. He pushes the appropriate button, and after a mercifully short wait, the pair on the left opens and his ascent to the fourteenth floor commences. Unfortunately, there is a slight delay when a second passenger enters on the tenth floor. The Miqo’te carries a briefcase and has little musculature beneath his cheap grey suit. Might there be a weapon concealed on his person? No? Recognizing Zenos, he simpers up at him and delivers the same banal greeting so many of his coworkers have attempted. Zenos simply keeps his eyes fixed on those twin doors and strides through them as soon as they open.

In the carpeted hallway, a cluster of employees indulge themselves in gossip. The one whose eyes first light upon him stiffens and then excuses herself hastily; the others turn, and either flee as she did or fawn like the man from the tenth floor. He strides through these, as well, passes four doors on the right and three on the left, and approaches a desk before a paneled wall.

“I have come, as I was ordered,” he informs the woman sitting there. Her mouth forms an O as she looks up to see who it is, and she ceases clack-clacking at her keyboard to pick up the sleek telephone beyond it.

“Sir,” she says breathily, “Y- Mr. Galvus here to see you.”

Silent seconds pass. The secretary looks at Zenos and mouths <i>I’m so sorry.</i> He starts for one of the plush chairs nearby, but a beige-and-white form darts in front of him.

“Mr. Galvus!” it chirps. “It’s so nice to meet you! My name is Shady Grove! I just started my internship here last week!”

He looks at the proffered hand, then up at the too-wide smile and the eyes with naught behind them. (They are the sort that Hydrus has laughingly called GDIs -“gold-diggers’ eyes.”) He neither matches the smile nor grasps the hand; after ten seconds of unflinching eye contact, Miss Grove wilts and slinks away.

Rating each of the 88 IAU designated constellations based on how good they would be as a name for a member of the Black family because I’m bored and this road trip will take at least 2 more hours.

Andromeda: 10/10 no notes. It’s perfect disaster name material.

Antila: 6/10 I feel they would be the weird middle child of the family

Apus: 5/10 could be good as a domineering father figure, otherwise I wouldn’t want to call my edgy soft boi Apus Black

Aquarius: 3/10 would get made fun of and not taken seriously

Aquila: 7/10 perfect name for an adventurous lesbian that got disinherited yet is a total badass

Ara: 1/10 I wouldn’t be able to stop myself from thinking Ara Ara Black

Aries: 9/10 perfect antagonist name

Auriga: 2/10 just doesn’t really roll off the tongue well

Boötes: 3/10 not bad, but the double Bs knock it down a few points

Caelum: 6/10 good as the edgy second in command to an antagonist, otherwise unremarkable

Camelopardis: 0/10 horrible would only be made fun of for being named the objectively worse version of giraffe

Cancer: 0/10 do I even need to explain

Canes Venatici: 2/10 to many syllables

Canis Major: 4/10 could see this being used as the name for an older twin, but not on its own

Canis Minor: 4/10 ditto but for the younger twin

Capricornus: 3/10 maybe as a medieval ancestor, but not as a modern black

Carina: 8/10 younger sister name

Cassiopeia: 10/10 amazing

Centaurus: 2/10 this would probably offend the actual centaurs

Cetus: 7/10 short and snappy, perfect for an overbearing father

Taurus: 10/10 absolutely perfect for a Father or Uncle that is an amazing duellist and is mad when his son isn’t

it’s a lovely universe near and dear to my heart and it’s likely i will. i’ve got three drafts of prequels anyway (the situation after harry’s birth; james&sirius moving in together, unwed; and an outsider’s perspective on harry as an odd, adorable little boy at muggle primary) but those will be, probably, at least 4 chapters each so it’s taking a while lmao (except the latter, but i’m having difficulty with creating a plot)

i need to brainstorm about it though!! no matter how much i want to write about teenage harry and his chaotic dads, i do still need to have an idea for a plot. professor!james dealing with his absurd son in class, maybe? wine aunt lily giving harry horrible dating advice because she thinks it’s funny? hungover harry and an awfully smug sirius (wearing hot pink reading glasses) carefully piecing lily’s ugly bowl back together because james and sirius refuse to put it back together with magic?

either way, here’s a snippet from the WIP about harry in muggle primary:

Little Harry Potter-Black is one of those children. As is usually the case, it’s not that Harry himself is truly at fault, really: Harry’s name isn’t really ‘Harry’, for starters, but ‘Hydrus’ instead, which is odd enough in a small village overflowing with your Johns and Janes that the other students sometimes chase him ‘round the schoolyard and tell him how odd he is. The fact that Harry also has two dads — and is very, very proud of it — also doesn’t help matters. Not here, not where the church is less than a minute walk from the school gates.

It goes without saying that Harry Potter-Black fights in order to remain in the upper-tiers of the pecking order, to the valiant protests of many parents. Harry’s got the kind of face that makes him look a bit sharp around the edges, a bit mischievous, a bit like he chases trouble instead of it chasing him. His black hair is perpetually messy, his big eyes are a greyish-green, and his smile is so cheeky it melts the iciest of hearts and prompts unbidden suspicion. His quick and sharp wit has helped him brow-beat most of his classmates into submission, and though Harry doesn’t get physical unless another student threatens him with fists, he’s already broken two noses for blatant homophobia towards his dads.

Sometimes she loses Harry at the end of recess and proceeds to find him holed up in the big willow that’s been growing in the courtyard since before old Mrs Bloom attended Ottram, perched on one of the big branches. She’ll ask him how on earth he got up there, and he’ll blink his big eyes at her and smile, ruffle his hair so it sticks up every which way, scrunch up his nose a little.

“Dunno, miss,” he’ll say. “Like everybody gets up into trees, I suppose.”

He’s an adorable little lad.

Set a few years after The Rebirth, the Autobots’ Galactic Alliance with humans and other alien races are going great. An explosion of technological evolution has occurred for humans and Autobots, resulting in the creation of Micromaster, Pretender and Action Master technology.

Micromasters for fuel efficiency and to better interact with smaller life forms.

Pretender technology exists for similar reasons, as well as espionage and better disguise to surprise Decepticon raiders on other planets.

Action Master tech is more experimental, but was designed for greater combat efficiency against Decepticons, Quintessons and other unscrupulous forces.

The Decepticons have been desperately trying to obtain a viable fuel source to properly revive the glory of the Decepticon empire, and have been reduced to desperate means. Unable to keep their normal sized troops efficiently powered, they’ve copied Micromaster and Pretender technology in an attempt at fuel efficiency. While Decepticon Micromasters have numbers on their side; they aren’t as suited for combat like their larger counterparts, are are pretty effortlessly swatted aside by the likes of the Dinobots. Pretender technology for the Decepticons have become more like life support suits, gleaned from the flesh of other aliens the Decepticons have captured and experimented on for their powers. Iguanus’ Pretender Shell was created from a peak specimen of Slizardo’s species as an example. The suits offer a bigger fuel advantage as it allows the Decepticons to ingest organic food, though this is seen by most, especially Galvatron, as disgusting and a perversion of the natural mechanical law.

In 2015, the miracle fuel Nucleon was discovered in a mysterious black hole in the Hydrus system by Optimus Prime, Wheeljack and Perceptor. Self sustaining and renewable, and highly efficient in running various machines, it was seen as a new form of clean energy beneficial to Autobots and humans.

Trial runs began on it being a fuel source for Transformers among volunteers, but Nucleon proved to have unusual affects on living machines. On top of removing the ability to Transform on all subjects, it caused bizarre mutations: Hot Rod shrunk into a Micromaster, Arcee and Daniel’s Headmaster partnership was severed, inadvertently curing and solving the now 16 year old boy’s need for a life support system but also rendering him partially cybernetic, and it caused Goldbug to revert into back into Bumblebee among other irregularities.

Action Master technology evolved to suit these handicaps until something could be done to resolve these issues.

The Decepticons had stolen a sample of Nucleon, but ran into similar problems of Mode Lock and mutations, with the Constructicons permanently merged into a downsized Devastator and Galvatron having devolved back into Megatron but was stuck in a comatose state, leaving Cyclonus, Scourge and Shatter in charge. Shockwave, stuck in his shrunken gun mode, was installed into a terminal in Scorponok’s city mode to compute solutions.

The solution arrived when Shockwave discovered a tremendous spike in pure Nucleon coming from the black hole, a burst that rocketed towards Lookout Mountain on Earth, and was discovered by the Bee Team (Pretender-Action Master Bumblebee, Daniel, Pretender Eagle Eye, Action Master Scrounge, Pretender Catilla, Action Master Mainframe and Action Master Moonracer). To the Autobots’ surprise, they’ve discovered a 14 year old alien girl called Nucle-Ai, a being radiant with the power of Nucleon.

A small squad of Decepticons (Targetmaster Scourge, Pretender Iguanus, Pretender Snarler, Pretender Shellrazor, Action Master Treadshot and Action Master Krok) tracked this immense energy to Earth, and began attacking the Autobots over Nucle-Ai. Protected by Daniel and Scrounge, Nucle-Ai took notice of the struggling Autobots’ being insufficiently powered by Nucleon, she used her power to fix an injured Bumblebee’s transformation abilities, turning the tide, but tiring the already exhausted Nucle-Ai, causing her to faint on Daniel’s lap to the boy’s blushing embarrassment.

Back at Scorponok, an undeterred Cyclonus and Shatter agree that the “Nucleon Witch” is what they need to re-energize the Decepticon Empire to its full glory and restore their leader Galva-er-Megatron. Starscream, spying on events with his own crew Bomb-Burst, Bugly, Take-Off and Gutcruncher, takes an interest in the Nucleon Witch for his own ambitions…

The Bee Team and Team Scourge are the main Autobot and Decepticon teams for this “season”, with guest heroes and villains rotating out in spotlight episodes.

Micromasters from both sides appear, but I can’t think of any specific examples to show case atm since there’s so many. Hot Rod in his shrunken state has taken a shine to being the leader of the Autobot Micromasters, far more manageable than his original Prime leadership in his mind.

The majority of the Autobot and Decepticon Head/Target Masters and related Rebirth showcase characters are on Nebulos fighting against the remaining Hive enemies, and are largely absent from this “season”.

Teenage Daniel, Carly, Chip Chase, Grandpa Sparkplug, Marissa Fairborn, Dirk Manus and their 11 year old daughter Sue are the main human allies working with Nucle-Ai and the Autobots.

The Quintessons are the primary secondary antagonists invested in the power of Nucleon, and seem to have a connection to the mysterious black hole that it and Nucle-Ai came from. They have the Pretender Monsters in their employ along with the Double Pretenders Oilmaster (gorilla) and Webmaster (spider). They seek to use Nucleon to render the Transformers completely unable to Transform, and therefore fight back, so they may retake control of Cybertron and their rebellious creations.

Nucle-Ai is shy but sweet. A little overwhelmed in her current life on Earth, but has taken a shine to Daniel, Bumblebee and Eagle Eye in particular, and knows she’s in good hands. Nucle-Ai appears to have a crush on Daniel, attracted by his bravery and looks (the boy has taken up weight lifting to help train in fighting the Decepticons and Quintessons), with the attraction being mutual. Her favorite Earth foods are pepperoni and mushroom pizza and blueberry pancakes. Her antenna are a secondary set of “eyes” that can detect other frequencies and energy, being something of a Nucleon and Energon detector and early warning system when the Decepticons and Quints attack. Her favorite past times are swimming, as her race descended from a fish like species despite her reptilian appearance, and reading space comics. She has the unusual power to harness Nucleon and her DNA appears to be intertwined with it. Her ability to “magically” wield it and repair issues with T-Cogs confounds Perceptor but Wheeljack finds it neat. All that’s known atm is her race originally discovered and harnessed Nucleon, but it’s unclear if her race can control it as she can. She apparently has two younger brothers that Wheelie and Wreck-Gar fondly remind her of, while Mainframe and Push-Button’s argumentative relationship reminds her of her parents, which causes her stress. Mainframe and Push-Button catch on to this and vow to put aside their differences for Nucle-AI’s sake.

The Action Masters primarily use drones or modified Mechanimals. This includes the scrapped animal masks seen in concept art used by the likes of Starscream, Jazz and Optimus. Accessories like the flight pack and heli pack are reinterpreted as Mechanimals, such as a Condor for Blaster and a CyberBee for Bumblebee that combine and become the equipment. Action Master Vehicles, as non living machines are fueled by Nucleon, and possess rudimentary T-Cogs that are unaffected by Nucleon’s inhibitions.

Those that are both Pretenders and Action Masters are simply a means to advertise both gimmicks without overshadowing each other and grant wider combat advantages.

In the Stranger Things-Heathers AU, sort of the pseudo companion AU, this came out as the 4th season and the toys included female Transformers for the first time, but were mostly limited to Action Masters because of design complications in transformation. Arcee got a Pretender toy, being the only preexisting Female Autobot to get one, but it’s a technical cheat as the inner robot is a retooled recolor of Landmine. Shatter, Shellrazor, Webmaster (despite being Quintesson aligned) and Backdraft are the first known Female Decepticons in this hypothetical context. Eagle Eye is the latest female Autobot in show and the second female Autobot toy after Arcee.
