Why Can't Ruffthrok Get Together? (RTTE)

Here's the final installment of my mini-series.

Why couldn't Ruffthrok end up together at the end of RTTE?

I'll give you three reasons.

As with the others, the first reason is because Throk is a show character, not a film character. As such, it was his unfortunate fate that they'd be torn asunder, forever fated to be star-crossed lovers.

Second, as you saw in the Season 5, Episode 11 "Snuffnut", Ruffnut couldn't leave her brother, and Throk saw that and gallantly parted ways from her and wished her well (how manly of him).

Lastly, Throk couldn't abandon his duties in Caldera Cay, neither as Mala's right hand nor as the Great Defender's guardian. And Ruffnut, as she had when with the Wingmaidens, couldn't abandon her brother and her friends and family on Berk. So their respective duties and love for home and kin caused them to decide to separate.

Truly unfortunate, as they made an unusually compatible pair together. 😔

However, I shall post something soon that'll showcase the several plausible scenarios that will be semi-loyal to the canon. I hope you'll stay tuned for that. (Click Here)

She is also the most knowledgeable about dragons out of all the children and is willing to do whatever it takes to protect them to the point of often having to be dragged away by her friends for her own safety or even Dart refusing to cooperate with her anymore

Misc: She enjoys reading the book of dragons and training with her mother. She also got her father's ability to create useful inventions. Her best friend is Ericka

Misc: With the very real possibility of his sister marrying Baldur he is most likely to become the next chief of Berk.

Misc: She is the most competitive of all the children and likes to follow Hiccup around and annoy him until he is quite literally just chasing her away.

She is still very useful in a battle and will take down enemies in style. She and Astrid have bonded over having Nadders and she has learned a few tricks from her.

Misc: She likes to help her father in the forge (I headcanon that Tuff begins to help Gobber in the forge now that Hiccup is to busy as chief) or helping her mother cook and bake in the great hall.

And so, as two lovers share their love, their hearts becoming one, not a cloud in the sky or a storm in the sea as the world seemed to slow down for just a moment. The perfect day for a wedding.

Aa the gathering crowd, all of the defenders of the wing, plus the Dragon riders and you have been invited to Mala and Dagurs wedding. All was beautiful, Mala and Daugur in their gold and white, the flowers and the weather were lovely, and everyone was in high spirits. All except one lone defender, a dear friend of yours, Throk.

Aa much as the sun was shining down on this glorious day, one could not deny the ever growing shadow that plagued Throk's heart. It seemed as if he was losing another part of himself as he watched his great leader be wed before him. As much as he was proud and happy for Mala, when he looks back on his own love life it pales in comparison. To make matters worse the one he had feelings for is currently celebrating with her friends and brother. On the opposite side of the crowd, the sight of Ruffnut makes his ache grow faster. Unable to stand by herside to share the celebration is enough to make him leave early in its entirety. A silent act he didn't expect many to pay attention to, but something that you noticed entirely.

As your feet made contact with the sandy shore of Caldera Cay your presence was soon spotted by a very disgruntled Throk. Even still the warrior tried to conceal his frustrations as he addressed you.

Throk: Ah! Erm ..... (Y/N). Shouldn't you be celebrating with the others?

(Y/N): *You approach him slowly* I could say the same for you.

Little was spoken between the two of you as he seemed to go back to his distant sulking. Staring out into the endless ocean before him his brows furrowed and yet he didn't seem angry. . . just disappointed.

Not wanting the silence to drag on further you finally speak up first.

(Y/N): *sighing* It's hard, you know? Not getting what your heart wants. . . seeing others happy.

Throk had nearly forgotten you were beside him but seemed puzzled by your statement.

Throk: But . . but I have nothing but happiness for Mala. I may not understand. . . the barbarian that is her new husband but I am certain this decision brings her happiness and so does it to me.

(Y/N): I'm not talking about Mala. . .

Throk only gave you a worried glance, one not becoming of a warrior such as himself.

(Y/N): If that were really the case I'd be talking to you at the wedding and not .  . here. I'm sure you're happy for Mala but, deep down I know you'd rather it be about you and a certain Thorston twin.

Throk sighed as he sat down on the sand. He couldn't deny that all of this fainfair, while worthy of celebration, was eating at him from the inside. How could he celebrate love when his own love life has been on the poor side if it. You expected him to be more closed off about all this. But actions speak louder than words. You saw how he looked at Ruffnut and what that must feel like for him, you could only imagine his pain. What was surprising was him being willing to come clean with you. As you sat down beside him you could only offer a listening ear as he spoke about his feelings on the matter.

It may not seem like it but Throk has lost more than he has gained over what seems like such a short while. All that he holds dear to him have been stripped away. Losing the Great Protector, Mala is now married and it feels like his role in her life will change dramatically, . . . not to mention Ruffnut.

Throk: *He shifts comfortably in the sand. His hands toss small pebbles into the sea* . . . and if I am to be honest with you. . . I am unsure how I'm supposed to feel. My role as second in command is supposed to be one of upmost importance. I hsve to be strong, firm, and someone my fellow defenders can look up to.

(Y/N): *You try your best to reassure him* . . and you still are those things Throk, but trust me when I say no one would ever blame you for not being perfect. *You start to blush ever so slightly as you reach out to try and hold him*. . . it's okay, you've been through a lot of changes. . . *but before your hand could make contact with his, he unintentionally dismisses you. Turning away embarrassed to face you.*

Throk: *His gaze has now shifted away from yours, you are unable to see the hurt on his face but his voice says it all.* . . .look I don't except you to understand. . . I don't believe anyone does. I'm supposed to have everything figured out and yet . . . .I just. . . I don't know. *he sounds defeated, his hand goes to rest upon his face in contemplation*. I'm unsure of where I went wrong.

(Y/N): *A bit upset in your own right you stand to try and knock some sense into his dense mind*. . . Would you stop for a moment and just listen!!!

Throk turns to face you as he's shocked with your sudden outburst.

Throk: *Softly* . . . (Y/N).

(Y/N): . ... Of course people won't understand if you keep dismissing them!! I'm trying to understand so don't turn away. . . stop blaming yourself for things that are out of your control. The great protector . .  Mala and even Ruffnut! None of that is yours to control! You have every right to feel upset. . .to feel as if you should have done better. But no amount of you changing is going to fix that so stop it because I like seeing you for who you are. . . *you almost stop in your tracks as you realized what you just confessed as a deep blush forms on your face. Its you're turn to turn away embarrassed as you quickly scramble to try and come up with the right wirds to say*. . .I . .I mean I just care about you and I don't want you beating yourself up about this . ... You're losses aren't a reflection of you . .. Okay. .*you say that last part sheepishly*. . . Especially when it comes to Ruffnut. . . love can be a big change in it's own right. The thing you need to understand is that some people are ready ... . and other's aren't. You just need to find someone who's ready to ..... go through that change with you. *at this point you're face is beat red with embarrassment*

Throk didn't need to point out anything. A soft smile forms on his face as he observed your bashful form. He stands uo next to you and gently brings you in for an embrace. Only causing you to blush even harder.

(Y/N):. ......uh   ..just kn know that life is .like a book . .it has many chapters and you shouldn't. . . feel like this is the end. *you're blushing and stuttering like mad as you're forced to say all that while your face is up against his chest but Throk appreciates the sentiment*

Throk: *a small laugh escapes him* . ...hmm . .well then. . . .would you like to be an important part of my new chapter then?

All that came from you was a soft nod against his body as he broke the embrace to look at you. Was this that start of a new friendship. . .or perhaps something more! For now he's happy to have someone new in his life to look forward to as he takes your hand and the two of you make it back to the celebration.
