httyd characters as dancers because i’m a dancer and i said so
hiccup: raised in a family of ballet dancers, sucked at ballet but found out he’s amazing at tap
astrid: modern, but it borders on hip hop
snotlout: breakdancing, but he has a secret love for musical theater (if anyone find out he will hunt them down and make sure they stay silent)
fishlegs: lyrical, occasionally jazz and musical theater
ruffnut and tuffnut: acro, emphasis on contortion. they often threaten to run away to a circus
heather: contemporary, ballet, and hip hop
johann: irish dancing
dagur: ballet. he’s not embarrassed by it but if anyone makes fun of him he will harm them
viggo: ballet, but he’s very condescending about it. if he sees someone dancing next to him he will try to one up them
ryker: hip hip, emphasis on calisthenics
mala: aerial silks

Fishlegs is sometimes the one who would get scared the most easily out of the riders. And the Speed Stingers' ambush was definitely something that could terrify anyone. Yet he came back.
He couldn't leave her there

College Days (and career plans)
After seeing a really fun Yona of the Dawn AU fanart with the characters in college, I started thinking about the Dragons crew.
Hiccup: Engineering. He's going to become an inventor and has already done some of that. He'll probably have his own company after graduation that makes just about everything. Need a replacement limb? Phone? Cylindrical item that will lead you to various reptiles and the journey of a lifetime? He's got you covered on all fronts. If it can be built, it will be.
Astrid: Law enforcement. She's eventually going to a police academy (cue the movie of the same name), so she wants to be prepared. She'll become a police captain in the future. It'll be very obvious why crime rates are plummeting in whatever city she's in.
Fishlegs: Zoology. He's always been into science, so he's going to become a zoologist to study animals all over the world. He absolutely loves his work and probably brings a few creatures home to study for a little longer before taking them back to the lab.
Snotlout: Drama. He's planning on becoming an actor. His work as Sir Ulgerthorpe has convinced me that he at least could be good on a stage. Plus, he's a drama queen. Maybe he'll get on the screen one day too. He's also considering if he wants to try out screenwriting and/or directing eventually. If he does become a director, he'll be one of the best and most bossy somehow.
Ruffnut: Digital communication and media/multimedia. She's honestly not here for any reason other than it's where Tuffnut and their friends are. That said, the twins are going to become YouTubers, so she figures she might as well become good at making videos.
Tuffnut: Crafts. He missed how Ruffnut's idea will actually be useful in their future job and thought this sounded fun. His reasoning is that he'll make some cool crafts to show off to their viewers. He's probably right, but there are still a dozen sighs directed his way because of this choice.
Dagur: Undecided. He's gone through business to see if he wanted to be an entrepreneur, then wasn't sure if he should just go to an entrepreneurship degree, had a few in between, and the latest one was psychology to try to understand his mind. At this point, he's hoping he sticks with something long enough to graduate on time with the credits. Can't say he isn't getting a well-rounded education, though. Just don't even get him started on career plans. He figures that he'll teach martial arts to pay for bills until he comes up with an idea he can keep for longer than a month.
Heather: Music. She's going to become a singer and probably be a vocal and guitar teacher later on. She's the only member of the group who we've heard sing and not sound bad (minus Snotlout surprisingly in my opinion. Oi oi oi), so I can see her doing this. She's not planing on being some superstar or anything. Just most likely at some venues and on YouTube, so maybe Ruffnut's new skills can help out.
Mala: Doctor of medicine for surgery. She's in the doctoral program (because I'm convinced she is a nice amount of years older than the others) and going to become a surgeon. This is something she's wanted to do for a while since she enjoys healing people. Meeting the others made her want to do this even more since she's sure at least one of them is going to be in a terrible accident one day and will need a good surgeon. Her bet is on Hiccup, the twins, or Dagur.
Throk: Criminal justice. He's already graduated, but he is receiving specialized training to become a body guard. When he gets free time, he comes around to spend time with the others. He's part of the bet with Mala and bets that Ruffnut will NOT need a surgeon because there's no way he's allowing such harm to come to her.
Atali: Women's studies. She's going to run a women's shelter when she graduates. She is also considering getting a master's.
Minden: Physical education. She's following her bestie and going to teach self-defense to the women Atali helps out.
(bonus)
Gobber: Welding engineering. He loved this in his university days and started up his own company. This is how he got Hiccup into making things too.
Stoick: Political science. He joined the marines when he was younger and became a high-ranking officer before coming back home to care for Hiccup.
Johann: Law. He became a slimy lawyer who always gets the really dangerous criminals off and puts away innocent people.
Viggo: Economics. He wanted to be very shrewd with his spending. He owns a company that seems like it's a tech manufacturing company on the outside but is actually smuggling a bit of everything.
Ryker: Criminology. He did this to understand just what risks the criminals who work for/with him could face. He works for Viggo (because of course he does) and is the VP of the business.
Krogan: Business management. On the outside, it seems like he's got a weapons manufacturing company, but he uses it to work with the Grimborns and hurt people.

Freebie for his favorite customer!
Johann visits Berk and reader decides to check out his new stock of random trinkets and treasures. Something catches their eye and Johann offers it to them at a price that is quite literally almost free of charge. They are the only person that willingly listens to his tales from all over, and accompanies him on the rare journey or two. (Pre-traitor Johann, reader has a thing for everyone's favorite trader, tbh he has a thing for them too and showers them in gifts, poor reader does NOT know what's coming in the future LMAO) let me know how you like this because it was a speedrun!
Tumblr media
"More of your company would be splendid as always! Although, we could use a change of scenery for this occasion..."
"Where'd you find this?"
You rise from your crouched position in front of his newest collection of random items, that you always got first dibs on. Holding up the silver necklace that had a deep red stone embedded into the pendant. Johann smiles and clasps his hands together with a pleased look in his eye. "Ah! The silver necklace with the carnelian! I had a feeling that would catch your eye!"
You're absolutely flattered that he knows your tastes in accessories, but you two talk so much that it's a given. "I actually obtained that from one of my travels further away from Berk! An older woman in a market settled in a rather warm cluster of islands offered it for one of the fancier daggers I had. I just knew you'd enjoy it, so I accepted! Oh, I am overjoyed that I was correct with my assumptions!" He rambles, letting his hands move around with his words and sounding much too happy that it peaked your interest.
As he's talking about the people from the place he calls "Domalli" you decide to put it on. Reaching your hands behind your neck as you attempt to clasp it, you tune into his story. "They all feasted on fruits and vegetables, but not animals! The people of Domalli saw the animals as sacred- Oh, my."
You had managed to get it on after a small handful of attempts and straightened it out so it appeared neater. "How much?" Johann snaps out of his slightly affectionate stare towards you and smiles again. Stepping forward and placing his hands on your shoulders he laughs. "Perhaps I should hand over to you free of charge for how lovely it looks on you, hm? Consider it a gift for showing me so much of your kindness."
You furrow your brows in slight confusion. Sure, he's let you have things for a much lower price than others before, but never fully free. "Are you sure, Johann? It seems too nice for me to-" He lifts a hand to stop you from questioning his words further. "It's only a carnelian! Nowhere as precious as you, so I insist!"
You smile, cheeks flushing a nice rosy color at his compliment and you laugh. Trying to figure out if this was his usual flattery or actual flirting. "I should give you something in return for your nonstop discounts and now this, Johann. Is there anything you want?" You test your luck. Lifting a hand to grab one of his off of your shoulders, holding it in your own.

Idk if you've made a post on this already or not I couldn't find anything so far. What kind of dragon would Viggo or any rtte httyd villains be in your opinion?
Oop. Well. Kind of yes but not likely what you're asking about. I did do a few post with some minor art of a few RttE villains as Wings of Fire dragons, but as other dragons in the HttyD franchise, not yet.
I will tell you, as I write this answer (and any this applies with any other asks i have answered/will answer), this is what comes to mind first. Sometimes I do think but otherwise I'm just saying what immediately strikes me.
Viggo himself, I would say either the classic Skrill answer, or perhaps a Deathsong. Tbh I think a Skrill and Deathsong hybrid would be kinda badass ngl.
Ryker... hm. He kinda gives me personally Thunderdrum vibes, maybe an aggressive Catastrophic Quaken. Sorta mysterious, loud. Yeah.
Krogan.... that's one to think about. In my opinion, singetail is not what I'd go to for him, even though he rides one. Sand Wraith maybe? I feel Boneknapper, while cool, might be a bit far fetched. Idk though. Ooh, a Sand Wraith Boneknapper. That'd be cool, methinks
Johann is either Changewing or Smothering Smokebreath to me and there's little to no in between for this. He's a shifty shit.
Do reformed villains count? Idk, maybe I'll answer for them later. But yeah. My thoughts.
Also I'm aware I didn't go through some of the lesser antagonists of RttE and I'm not going to this time. Maybe at a different point. Idk.

Okay, the last of the character sheets I drew over the last few days, presenting Trader Johann and Gruffnut!
Tumblr media
Gruffnut Alvarsson is the older cousin of Ruffnut and Tuffnut Thorston, about six or so years older than them. He’s related to the twins on their dad’s side of the family, their uncle being his father. Despite the Alvarsson and Thorston clans being considerably sized on Berk, especially once they joined through the twins parents, Gruffnut spends most of his time away from Berk. He left on the first ship he could snag for himself after he graduated Dragon Training, off to seek out ‘new opportunities’ as he liked to call it. Every once in a while he returns to Berk, bringing stories to his younger cousins of all the amazing things he’s seen and all the incredible adventures he’s been on, before leaving again. Tuffnut adores his older cousin, thinking he’s one of the coolest people ever. Ruffnut isn’t nearly as thrilled about Gruffnut, but that’s because she’s overheard the conversations the adults have in the background about their older cousin.
Gruffnut barely passed Dragon Training, failing his first year, and far outshone by Ingrid during his second, but brawn’s had never been something he was particularly good at. Especially when his opponent was a large, angry dragon. Gruffnut relied more on brains, though he was no Einstein in that department either. Gruffnut inherited his own father’s and the twins father’s gambling habits, and also inherited the poor awareness that doesn’t come with knowing a gamble or bet is too big a risk to take. Gruffnut has spent the last handful of years sailing off outside the Archipelago, looking for big money and a high-quality lifestyle, only to gamble away all his savings or lose them paying off a debt he didn’t anticipate going poorly. He then slinks back off to his family, begging for a bed and more money, before sailing away and repeating the process all over again. Gruffnut has learned how to handle himself in a fight with smaller opponents, but learning to handle himself in a fight doesn’t help when the money is all he can see and he gambles away more than he can afford with the wrong people. Gruffnut’s family don’t know how quickly he loses money, returning to Berk something he does sparingly. When he can’t afford to make the trip back to the Archipelago, or doesn’t feel like dealing with his family, Gruffnut turns to bounties or shady work with various dragon trappers or other unsavory company to pay off his debts. This sometimes puts him in more trouble, but Gruffnut only cares about his own personal comfort, and is willing to do almost anything to get it.
Trader Johann is a Trader from the Northern Markets. Most of his business is done there, though he can be found almost anywhere, a sort of nomad even amongst the traveling traders. He is also one of the few traders who dared risk sailing into the Archipelago, amongst its rumors of dragon raids and barbaric tribes. Trader Johann has a reputation amongst every tribe he visits as being reliable and friendly, if only a little air-headed and whimsical. It’s a reputation Johann has spent years crafting amongst the Archipelago and every other tribe anywhere else that he visits, though it’s not all for the generous reasons that Johann lets people think. Johann is from further east, where he works for a big name Dragon Trapper looking to expand territory. Johann oversees his bosses outer operations, disguised as a merchant which allows him to go just about anywhere unquestioned. There is genuine joy in his cover, though Johann hates the facade he puts up and the supplies he carries with him. Johann’s passion project over the last year or so indulges the cargo he would rather carry. Dragons.
Johann has been assigned with helping set up an underground dragon trading route, meant to be separate from the larger and more public auctions that take place on many isolated islands. The end goal is for the routes and their multiple, eventual erected, floating markets to serve as private auctions, leaving the islands as a sort of public and more common auctioning ground for the customers with less grandeur. The hidden markets that will be placed along the underground routes paths will be reserved for only the elite and personally invited, but first they need to be set up. Johann has been helping arrange things, bringing reserved supplies and knowledge on the best sailing routes to hide away their operation, and acting as a messenger for all the various Dragon Trapper organizations that would like to attend or provide cargo for selling. Even the Grimborn brothers have sent cargo to help set up the beginning of the stock to be sold, which is a big deal. Of course, Johann has been tasked with helping as nothing more than a means to an end. The underground dragon trading route will serve a bigger purpose than it was initially meant for, though no one but Johann and his employer needs to know what that is. Unfortunately, and irritatingly, Johann has run into a few unforeseen snags along the way. Shipments have been caught in storms and lost before they made it to their end destination, and some of the dragons that the Grimborns have sent are from the older brothers fighting rings, and are consequentially more aggressive than most dragons. And a handful of pests from the Isle of Berk have taken to riding dragons, and managed to reveal to the tribes of the Archipelago that Johann is a Dragon Trapper.
They’re annoying problems, but none that Johann hasn’t been able to swiftly handle. He’s lost rights to trade with Berk and the Berserkers, who want nothing to do with him, and the Outcasts refuse him as well, though he never traded with them before. It’s frustrating, but the other tribes still accept him, under his swiftly though guise of simply providing supplies to any who were willing to buy, regardless of his personal opinions of them. And the infamous Dragon Riders disappeared from the Archipelago within the year of their appearance, so Johann is certain that he doesn’t have to deal with them any longer and can get back to carrying out his employers plan.
Okay I know what you’re thinking. Actually I don’t, but I’m gonna say it anyway cause I’m weird like that. Why is Gruffnut getting on a character sheet when he shows up like, three times in the show? Surely that means he shows up even more times in my crossover, right?…yeah about that, I literally only have him in one episode right now. Maybe he’ll show up a few other times but right now he’s operating as a one and done character. HOWEVER. I have tweaked his character a lot and he adds some insight into the twins family and its structure. For starters, Gruffnut is not a Thorston. He’s an Alvarsson, which is the twins dad’s former surname. I’m making it so that Thorston is actually their mother’s maiden name, which she kept when she married the twins dad. Gruffnut is their paternal cousin, and not only is he a lot older, he’s also not a copy paste of Tuffnut. I’m pretty sure they did that as a sort of comical bit and also to save money on making another model, but because of how the events of this story work, Gruffnut being identical to Tuffnut doesn’t work, and I also wanted to make him seperate. I decided to play into him being a much older cousin as well because that plays into Tuffnut’s idolization of him; Gruffnut is old enough to go out and explore elsewhere beyond Berk, which means Tuffnut doesn’t see him as often, and being much older plays into the effect of Tuffnut looking up to Gruffnut, since they’re not the same age. Ruffnut still sees through a lot of his crap though, but doesn’t know how to break it to Tuffnut who refuses to listen. Gruffnut being a paternal relative also adds on to what I have planned for their dad, in that the twins don’t have the best relationship with him. They talk about their mom a lot but their dad has never come up so I’m assuming that they don’t have the best relationship with him, and Gruffnut is going to help illustrate those issues.
As for Johann, I’m playing into the twist reveal of him being a dragon trapper, but he gets revealed much earlier. Of course it doesn’t have too much of an effect, for better or for worse later on in the story, but the riders are aware of him from pretty early on. I don’t remember if it’s ever mentioned if Johann was working for someone else or not, but in this story he has an employer, and they’re both playing the waiting game for their plans. I’m doing my best to hint to or set up stuff that happens later in the fic early on, so it doesn’t feel like it came out of left field, and I’m trying to connect a bunch of stuff together, which Johann is going to be really helpful in doing on both accounts. He’s not super a problem in the beginning, because he’s busy with his own stuff, but I’m aiming to have him involved at certain points so he doesn’t just fade into obscurity, and also to hint toward the stuff that he’s working on that I cannot reveal yet as it is meant to be a surprise.

At the end of rtte it should’ve shown a clip of Dagur going below the island
Mainly to see the bewilderbeast but also to look at Johann trapped in ice and say “I hate traitors”
Just like in the beginning of the series before he pushes him off the edge of the cliff to make sure Johann never comes back

Random thing I thought about.
Most of the other villains in race to the edge have musical cues to signify that they are there or that they are going to be onscreen.
Krogan doesn’t.
In fact, any music seems to cut off quite sharply as soon as he appears, and the few times there is music at his appearance, I can only describe it as a prickling of tiny, short notes. This is a very sharp intake of difference from both Viggo and Johann, who get sharp, sudden, and long jabs at their appearances on screen.
The sudden lack of music when Krogan appears on screen; it reminds me of the silence that can fall over an area when animals know that there is a predator in their midst. The stark, stringy notes that ring out sometimes are like the hairs on the back of your neck raising, as if you are being watched by some creature that is hunting you down.
I’m making this metaphor because I think it signifies that dreamworks intended for Krogan to be more like a actual predator. A wolf in sheep’s clothing amongst the dragon hunters; who would be deemed his prey.
And I know it could just be superficial in that “he’s supposed to be the outcast and he works for Drago which is why it’s like that!” That’s fucking lazy and BORING! We can do better than that!
Perhaps, in the universe where we got to see more of him, it would come to the understanding that Krogan is actually a predator in their midst. That he is not afraid to predate on his supposed allies for food. (It’s dark, yes, but the other option is drab, stupid, and too superficial don’t @ me.)

Last Night's Dream in a Nutshell:
Krogan has a buffet table
He doesn't man it, its just there for him, he owns it
I steal food from said buffet table
I run off because he's angry about that
Johann watches
Viggo switches from helping me to being me(as in I am Viggo sometimes)
The dragon riders are busy fighting skeletons
Mostly the bewilderbeast skeleton
But other skeletons as well
Toothless's kids are having a bachelor party(no idea how else to explain it- there was literally a fucking party with balloons and red cups and shit-)
They are interrupted by Grimmel capturing them
All of them
Grimmel has an arena
He makes the dragons fight demons
Actual demons
Like, from DOOM kindof shit
HTTYD1 apparently involves a curse plague turning dragons to stone
HTTYD2 apparently involves Gothi making Hiccup walk all that way to Dragons Reach(as in the fucking Skyrim place)
HTTYD3 didn't really exist, it was just there
HTTYD4 involves demons and Grimmel fighting dragons against demons
Race to the Edge apparently was a bunch of books I was having to hide from Viggo and Hiccup both, and involved a lot of horror, gore, violence and plauges (statues again)
Krogan's gravy for the mashed potatoes was shit
But the rest was okay, 10/10
Viggo got into a dog fight(literally- and also I was Viggo right then-)
Had to break plates to escape the hotel and the dogs as Viggo
Fell into a river
Woke up
This is why I like sleeping so much-

This guy brought smothering smokebreaths to Berk. He also delivered false info about Dagur's weapon a few episodes back. He also brought to Berk baskets upon baskets of blue olienders. And I have a suspicion that he was the "excellent authority" Dagur mentioned who delivered the news of Berk having made peace with dragons to the Berserker chief in the first place. I'm starting to see a lot of red flags here which were previously unseen even though he wasn't created to be an antagonist for RoB/DoB.

Slasher Movie
Tumblr media
With Halloween fast approaching (moohoohahaha), I started imagining the RTTE cast in horror movies. Here are my headcanons for what they would do if they were stuck in a slasher film (and not the killer. I feel the need to specify that)
Hiccup: Make so many traps, he puts Kevin McCallister to shame. The slasher runs home, crying.
Astrid: Comes face-to-face with the slasher and beats the living yak dung out of whoever was bold enough to do this.
Fishlegs: Screams for most of the movie. Fights the slasher if Meatlug is ever targeted. Gets slashed otherwise.
Snotlout: Dies. Either this or is doing his best to not freak out the entire time and finally ends up fighting the slasher.
Tuffnut: Is convinced that the slasher is pulling a prank. Keeps almost dying, but he just won't because he's Tuffnut.
Ruffnut: Is pulling a prank but also is pretty sure that there's a real slasher too. Manages to avoid the killer for most of the movie.
Dagur: Captures the slasher. The rest of the movie turns into an NC-17 torture flick. Bring the barf bags if you have a weak stomach.
Heather: Realizes pretty fast what's going on and is the one to bring it to the others' attention. Mostly stays on the defensive and tries to avoid the killer.
Stoick: Nothing because the slasher isn't even willing to try him.
Gobber: Kills the slasher by accident, then realizes what he did and is pleased.
Mala: Stays put and waits for the slasher to come to her, then regret every life decision that was made up to the point of meeting the queen.
Throk: Refuses to leave Mala's side for any reason until the slasher is dead. Is going through emotional conflict because Ruffnut won't stay still and he wants to keep them both safe.
(Bonus for villains!)
Johann: Dies immediately.
Alvin (I know he technically turned good, but eh): Thinks that something is up, then makes the slasher take of running as soon as he's seen up close.
Ryker: Feeds the slasher to dragons.
Krogan: Brings out his trusty dusty torture book for ideas.
Viggo: Challenges the slasher to a game of maces and talons where the prize for winning is life itself.
