I want to come out to my mum and dad. I know they will support me as they have always said that it doesn’t matter who I love as long as I’m safe and happy. However I’m terrified because of the comments and jokes they make about the LGBT Community. The looks they give each other or me after passing an obviously queer person or item.

I’m scared to truely be myself, part of me feels like they are ok with me being gay as long as I don’t go “over the top and shove it in the world’s face”.

Studying linguistics is actually so wonderful because when you explain youth slang to older professors, instead of complaining about how "your generation can't speak right/ you're butchering the language" they light up and go “really? That’s so wonderful! What an innovative construction! Isn't language wonderful?"
