OK so I rambled a bit about this on a prev reblog of mine but I've been in search of good songs for my Kylo Ren playlist and I'm shocked that Mama by My Chemical Romance isn't on them!! What song is more Kylo!!
The paternal guilt, the angst about being a bad man, being disowned by a mother for your actions but she still cries when she finds out you're dead! The drama!! The regret!!! It's Kylo!
Ohhh I just got a fun idea for a fic. Would that actually be something anyone's interested in? I've beat my writer's block and am itching for prompts.... it just wouldnt be Kylux.
BUT I also did do a Kylux oneshot that I'm posting shortly, it's on the angstier side but I like angsty Kylux.

But Taeyong was a friendly guy. He welcomed you. He heard good things about your work and he feels like it fits into the concept he puts out there. The most neo person to live. He bleeds neon green to you. He’s perfect for your work.
You smile. “It’s honestly my greatest accomplishment to have you model for my clothes.” Taeyong smiles back hearing you say this. Every designer tells him this; ‘it’s an honour. I am so glad you allowed me to design this for you.’ But your words seem to have a different meaning and tone to what he usually would hear from other brands.
You spoke with the most raw truth about your work. When Taeyong looks at the clothes you make, they tell a story, they tell a story about every single thought and aspect you make in your head while creating these beautiful things for people to wear.
Taeyong couldn’t wait to see what you will create for him. He can’t wait to see the story you will make for him to see and read. To tell the world and wear it on his sleeves.
“I look forward working with you, Y/n.”

You’re sat down designing on the paper. The hardest part of being a fashion designer it’s that you have to sketch the idea. You have to brainstorm every part of your muscles to figure something unique, something worth making and trying out. You don’t want Taeyong to wear the most banally shaped and boring designs — because it’s not his concept firstly. Secondly you wish to catch the attention of the public and have people want to scream to wear what Taeyong will wear on that fashion walk.
You want people to look at a certain clothing and think: ‘Wait What! That looks like it’s made by Y/n.’ And you want to get the point across that you want to make your work the most outlandish and outstanding piece of clothing like it is an artwork that must be hung up in a museum somewhere.
This was your goal and you knew the moment you needed a model to do the right job it would have to be no one else but Lee Taeyong.
He has your vibe. He has style and the body you need. And most importantly he has the face and personality that fits right into your branding.
You sketch on the paper many designs various sizes and shapes; a shirt in a shape of a triangle? Pair of trousers with rectangle stitching ends? You did anything you found to be fitting. You let your mind run wild.
“Y/n what colour do you want the first stage outfit to be?” Your co-worker Johnny who worked for you for many of your fashion shows and such. He was another designer too, and without him you’d be a lost cause you thought.
You trail busy looking at the pieces of papers checking out the outfits you have sketched. He was behind you holding many blocks of colours and he saw you were too far looking at the papers than at him. “Hmm…I have a vision… but I can’t seem to see it clearly.” Johnny hears you say that with a sigh.
His eyebrows rise up on his face. “How come? What’s your vision.”
You hum putting the papers down on the desk as your chair turns around. You’re now facing Johnny. “I want the audience to go wild when they see someone like Taeyong; I mean he’s handsome. He has a face that anyone would want. I want his clothes to equal that.” Someone with Taeyong’s face would want to be shown off.
Johnny can understand that your points coming cross may be from your stress and overthinking though you have a point, when he looks at Taeyong he imagines something weird. He wants a weird outfit.
“I think we should make something weird. Something out of the norm-you’d-usually go in the direction of.”
You squint your eyes as you hear this. The sudden wave of realisation puts you into a trapping reality like you were dreaming out of nowhere so you’re now going to be through a lane of ideas trafficking at your fingertips. You turn around quickly, “You’re a genius Johnny…” Johnny had no idea what you were now drawing. But it seems like he made you tick in a different direction now. As per usual his guidance always makes you bring out the best ideas out of yourself.
In a few minutes you’ve drawn the perfect picture of what your vision actually was. Johnny was brought in closer to the desk next to you leaning down with one arm stretching out to hold the table. He looks proud. He looks satisfied and it’s a lot better than what he expected from you. You smirk looking at the design of what you will be making Taeyong wear; on his first stage fashion walk. You can’t wait but you can already imagine that he will look so good, that he will have no choice but to take people’s breathes away and leave them unable to look away from him. As if he was a siren possessing anyone in his reach.
“It’s perfect.” Johnny told you satisfied.
You grin. “He’s going to be the centre of everyone’s attention now.” You we’re sure of it. You were confident and you could already tell in the future it will be like that.
“What are you going to name it?” Johnny now said asking you and you raise an eyebrow humming.
Your eyes sparkle when you click your fingers in the air as if you finally found the perfect title to name this outfit design you have created.
Something weird for something weird to wear.
“I am going to name it,”
“Shalala.”

Taeyong would be in the fitting rooms awaiting for your arrival. It was early morning and he was surprised to have been called in so early. You had a great chance to be making many finalists decisions for the cat walk designs but it seems like you had made something so special that you told him to come to your studio this early in the morning. He was excited he won’t lie. Taeyong loves your work and he meant it when he told you he loved every single piece you have created from the beginning of your uprising career. There was never a moment where he disliked any piece of your work and he can proudly say this that he will not be left ashamed. He’s bewildered with anticipation.
He has no idea of what you will be showing him today; no idea what you have called it. No idea what it could be. He just knows you made something and he’s about to find out what.
He’s alone in your studio waiting until you come inside with a welcoming smile. The moment you strut forward to give him a greeting hug from you, in which he gladly accepts, the whiff of your sweet fruity perfume attacks his nostrils in the most pleasant way possible. You smell so good he couldn’t resist from wanting to smell more of it but he restrains himself. Surprised by your beautiful smile too, you pull away from him first.
Letting the hug go you beam happily. “It’s so good to see you again Taeyong. Did you get here safe?” You ask mentioning a polite voice. Taeyong was starstruck watching you. He wasn’t expecting you to be this happy to see him. But he was glad you were happy because your smile truly did something in his stomach. Something special.
“Yes I got here safe.” Taeyong smiles gently as he nods. “My managers are getting us coffee. I told them to get an americano for us both. I hope that’s okay?” He wasn’t sure what to give you because he wasn’t sure what you’d like or not so he got the same drink as what he would get hoping you wouldn’t mind.
You were surprised he was buying you coffee anyways; it’s your first time getting offered a cup of coffee from a model.
You smile at him, though your heart skipped a beat by his compassionate gesture. “Ah yes Americano is perfect thank you. You didn’t have to.”
‘Thank god. It would’ve been so awkward if she didn’t drink coffee…’ Taeyong trails to his own thoughts.
You now decide to trail to the fitting areas where the outfit you have created. You spent so many all-nighters making the design of the outfit you created with Johnny; secondly you would like to say it’s the most Neo-thing for someone like Taeyong to wear and at this point you know it’s good. Because Taeyong quite literally would bleed Neon Green if he had to. You know that his favourite colour is green so you cooperated that into the outfit.
The only thing you need to do now is to reveal it to him. Your heart’s chasing miles from what you wanted it to be. You were nervous and panicked. You were confident in the outfit but you care so much about Taeyong’s opinion too. He’s the one who will make it go viral. He’s the key and you’re nothing without his good impression on the outfit.
Taeyong’s eyes widen as he was met with your hands revealing the outfit. It was a simple puffer jacket with puffer pants. It gave this most comfortable down to earth look but at the same time it looks so stylish there wasn’t a single bland thing about it even though it was just a puffer jacket and a pair of pants puffer out in the same material. He feels like this was the most beautiful piece of thing he’s seen made perfectly adjusted to his needs; he won’t be cold wearing this that’s for sure. He will be able to walk around and do all the poses models do on the cat walk. The material is soft and fun. It wasn’t boring which is what he finds amazing about this whole thing. You managed to turn something so simple — into something so unique and weird. Which is what he loves so much.
He knew you wouldn’t disappoint him.
“I am now introducing you to: Shalala.”
The jacket was a bright green; vibrant as heck it could blind everyone’s eyes from countries away. Your designs on the jacket was black squares similar to checkers making it compliment the bright distracting green. The black squares made the jacket somehow more tame. Which is what Taeyong found to be the most important part. Balance.
Your work has the perfect balance that many brands should learn from you. Taeyong sticks by these words. Famous Brands should learn from you.
The pants were wide and flown out. Taeyong saw the way the pants were following the black and green patterns now like it was an illusion. He was impressed, mind blown in a way.
He looks back at you with his mouth wide open. “I love this Y/n. Truthfully it’s nothing else I’ve ever seen before but I love that about your work.” He states with genuine emotions.
You smile. He likes it and that’s what matters to you the most. “I’m glad you like it. Honestly I tried to think about your style in general… you have a unique style and I like that.” You softly add. “I wanted you to wear something you’d want to wear.”
“No one else has done that for me.” Taeyong reveals as his eyes were glued on your face now as if they were unable to let go off you in the sight. You turn around with your eyes widen as you saw how intensely he’s been watching you. Somehow your heart starts to beat even more.
‘Why am I feeling so nervous suddenly?…’
Taeyong comes forward watching you as his hands slowly lift themselves to feel the hem of your shirt attaching on your body so nicely. Making this it's own post bcs I don't want to detract from the racism discussion on the last post I reblogged(and also this is rambly as hell, sorry) but like I always find the critique that "x genre of music is only about drinking, sex, and violence" wild bcs....almost ALL music in every genre is about that?? Like with rap/hip-hop it ofc this argument ties directly back to racism but even with other genres that get shit on like country people are like "they just sing about getting beers with the boys and driving their trucks" like???? Yeah, I could grab 50 songs from other genres that are about that and beloved regardless??? Getting beers with the boys is a fucking cherished meme on this webbed site!! Or that one Ed Sheeran song people roast all the time like "how dare he write a song about finding his girl's body attractive" bro, are you new here. 99.9% of popular music is "my partner is really hot and I want to have sex with them" and that's like the ONE song of his I know of that's just about fucking like he writes about other stuff, people just ignore those bcs it doesn't fit the narrative of him being a shallow misogynist everyone here loves to drag around and beat like a dead horse.
Why is this a bad thing when people you don't like do it, but fine when the people you do like do it, huh? Hozier is one of the most popular artists out there rn, this site worships the ground he walks on, and yeah his music has a lot of layers of poetic meaning but a lot of it is just about sex and falling in love and violence and drinking. The two are not mutually exclusive!!
Which is kinda the root of it, them not being mutually exclusive, bcs imo even if a genre was entirely saturated with songs exclusively about drinking and sex(which no genre is, you just haven't gone looking for the other stuff), I just don't think that's a problem or means the music is bad or less artistically meaningful?? I genuinely don't think there's a damn thing wrong with writing a song or twelve about finding someone attractive or talking about the violence a lot of people live with every day of their lives or even just churning out a fun party anthem for people to play while they get white girl wasted at a tailgate. Who cares if the art is shallow, why does it have to be "deep" to be worthy of respect, and why does deep and worthy of respect mean "no sex, violence, or drinking", three things that have been part of the human experience since we fucking became humans!
Honestly if you really are looking down on rap and country for being about sex and drinking and violence I want you to ask yourself why you think some artists should be denied the right to write about shit everyone else is writing about all the damn time to massive critical acclaim. Why should black people and rural poor people and women(bcs this is also a critique I heard a LOT aimed at female pop stars) be denied the right to explore the full spectrum of human experience and emotion in their art. Why do they HAVE to tell stories about something else to be taken seriously when their fellow artists can churn out entire albums full of songs about sex and violence and partying and not have anyone bat a fucking eye.
And, on top of that, please ask yourself why you think that something can't be deep while being about sex, drugs, partying, and violence. Bcs that is some fucking discount moral panic bullshit that needs to get knocked out of your head before it festers and you start insisting people who like horror are weird because violence can't be art.

Summary: Everyone believes that fame is happiness and perfection, but on the other side of the coin is that at any moment they can destroy you. And that's what happened to you, but during that you met Robert, who you wrote a song for and he reacts to it for the first time.

As is known, fame is not always rosy. Much less perfect.
You learned this as soon as a rumor that nearly destroyed your entire reputation caused you to disappear from the public eye for almost half a year.
If it hadn't been for Robert, you honestly wouldn't have pursued that career.
The two first met in person a month after the whole mess went off. When you first started dating, dubious about everything that was going on, you tried to break up with him a couple of times. You didn't think it was good for his career that when both went public with your relationship, they linked him to you.
Most of the discussions were about that. And they always brought you to tears.
So he took you by the cheeks, caressed them gently and looked directly into your eyes.
"Listen to me, if I'm with you knowing everything that happened it's because I really love you for the great person that you are. I know that the y/n they talk about out there is not my y/n. I'm here to stay, honey ."
And that's when you started planning your comeback, preparing your next studio album.
In which there was a song, or more, for Robert.
"All the liars are calling me one,
nobody's heard from me for months,
I'm doing better than I ever was."
You started humming while writing the lyrics.
As the days passed you had more than half the song done.
Everything was inspired by the situation you were going through, how you went from feeling so low but Robert helped get you out of the hole you were in when everyone turned their backs on you.
There was one time where they almost saw you on the streets of Hollywood when you and he went to buy breakfast, only you stayed inside the black armored van and they only got photos of the actor. But they were photos of him smiling at the van as he got into it.
Magazine articles and Internet pages began to speculate about Robert's new conquest, but they never imagined that it would be you.
"'Cause my baby's fit like a daydream,
walking with his head down,
I'm the one he's walking to."
You recorded little clips of moments with him for a possible video for the song.
Moments when it was you and him in a cabin you had in Canada. You spent much of the time there.
You playing the guitar by the fireplace with him in front of you while recording the video.
Walks in the woods. You smiling as he took your hand to kiss the back of it. You composing. You looking at the snowy landscape through the window with a cup of hot chocolate in it. Making forts under the covers in the living room.
"Starry eyes sparking up my darkest night."
It was almost completely finished, only the bridge was missing.
As you tried to figure out what you could write on that part, you brought your hand up to your clavicle, playing with the thin chain that hung from your neck with Robert's initial.
And just like in the cartoons, it was like a light bulb went on over your head.
"I want to wear his initial on a chain 'round my neck, chain 'round my neck." you murmured singing, writing everything before the idea left.
And at least a couple of days later the song was completely finished. A week later you went to record it in a studio and a couple of months later the album was completely ready.
That had been three months ago. All your fans received you in a good way along with your new album.
And some time later the rumor that had caused your disappearance was denied.
You started a tour and that was the first night of it. And it would be the first time Robert would hear the song, because you wanted it to be special, when the album came out you didn't let him hear it.
"This song was inspired by a person who stayed with me all the time when I disappeared," the screams of the fans filled the stadium, making you smile. You looked in the audience for your boyfriend, who was already looking at you with happiness shining on his face. "Robert, this is for you."
You started to sing the song, watching at all times Robert's reaction, which did not stop smiling with love.
"So call it what you want, yeah,
call it what you want to."
You finished, your chest heavy with joy and adrenaline, facing the entire audience with a genuine smile.
Backstage you looked for Robert, and when you saw him you ran to him to hug him, so he welcomed you with open arms, hugging you tightly.
"I loved the song."
"Yeah?" You looked at him affectionately and he nodded caressing your cheek.
"Yeah." He tilted his face a little so he could kiss you softly.

The dark side of Taylor Swift's lucky number 13
Taylor has been performing at her concerts with her lucky number 13 written on her hand since her first fearless tour, but what if it doesn't have the same nostalgic meaning for Taylor Swift?

"I was born on the 13th, I turned 13 on Friday the 13th, by first album went gold in 13 weeks. Also, my first song that ever went number 1, it had a 13 second intro, I didn't even do that on purpose!"
The number 13 is most well known for being an unlucky number from the association it has with Friday the 13th, and the scary halloween movie series with the same title. Yet, many now see it as a good luck charm because Taylor has used it so prolifically throughout her career that it's become their lucky number too.
"I hate it here."
In the reputation prologue Taylor talks about the duality between the best and worst parts of ourselves, our deepest secrets and our favourite stories. And that the version we present to the public doesn't show the version we keep hidden. Everyone presents a mask of their best selves, but some of us do so while feeling the chasm between the two. This divergence then feels like the facade we present to others feels counterfeit to our inner selves.
"And for a fortnight there we were together."
This leads us to consider the other side of the coin behind the meaning of the number 13 and how it reflects Taylor's inner world. The title track of the tortured poets department is fortnight. This song fortnight isn't referencing a literal fortnight but her first album debut that contains 14 songs, excluding the pop version of teardrops on my guitar.
"All my Mondays are stuck in an endless February. I took the miracle move on drug, the effects were temporary."
This debut album contains an honest and personal account of Taylor's life growing up. Revealing how lonely she felt at school, feeling like an outcast and her determination to keep going in spite of it all. When her fearless album was released there was a markedly increased use of male pronouns and names to replace the more neutral you, me and us pronouns used throughout debut.
"Marry me, Juliet!"
There are songs like love story where it switches to the male character's perspective and Taylor gets to sing honestly while singing about a heteronormative relationship. But for the most part, everyone else is associating the song with the type of love where finding a man or is the end of your story. This fairytale happily ever after is what Taylor became famous for. It's what made me fall in love with Taylor's work, but I also stayed for the depth and complexity of the inner version of Taylor I connected with too.
"I was a functioning alcoholic till nobody noticed my new aesthetic."
The "Mondays stuck in an endless February" lyric in the fortnight song is talking about the debut version of Taylor being stuck in the fearless era. The changes to Taylor's albums in the fearless era erased more of her inner voice. When others only like your public facade you show them, it leaves you feeling like who you are on the inside will never be good enough for anybody. This is what leads to the choice between giving up trying to fit in or exiling your past self in the hopes of being accepted.
"Blood's thick but nothing like a payroll."
This battle of wills is echoed throughout Taylor's entire discography. It's easy to fob this off as a repercussion of the contract with her first record label, but that ended with the reputation era. These themes have repeated over and over again throughout her work much longer than that. When you remove all male and female muses from the story, there's an evident thread of being at war with herself. While begging for her family, her father in particular, to accept the queer side of herself.
"Two graves, one gun."
In the tortured poets department there's references to wanting to come out, but having to stay closeted to protect her career. This is evident in the eras tour with performing a three hour show with a set from every era except for debut. Taylor is breaking her own records with the quality of work she's put out recently, while still talking about how she's lost more of herself than she ever expected to. The line about "two graves, one gun" shows how she lost herself in the beginning of her career and again when she showed more of her inner self with the aesthetic of the lover era. The karma coffee cup is a map of where the graves are buried, pointing towards both the end of the fearless era and the folklore era.
"When my depression works the graveyard shift, all the people I've ghosted stand there in the room."
In my first post I went into great detail about the connections between Taylor's life and the Truman show. Her connection to Truman's character is especially apparent between the folklore and evermore albums. Truman's character is aware of the fact that he is unwittingly the star of a reality show being broadcast to the world. There are a lot of parallels to Taylor's pop star persona and how famous she has become recently.
"The sign on your heart said it's still reserved for me."
Truman's character reaches a breaking point where everything changes and realises what he wants to do with his life is too important to keep fulfilling the role everyone else wants him to fulfil. This is why the tortured poets department feels like a goodbye album. This is Taylor letting go of anyone who is not willing to see her for who she really is. As many of us experienced during the lockdowns, getting a taste of living without the mask makes it incredibly soul crushing to put back on again. The tortured poets department is a goodbye, but for Taylor it is a return home to herself. The tour for the lover era put a hold on her plans going forward, but created an opportunity to go even bigger than she already had planned.
"Put narcotics into all of my songs and that's why you're still singing along."
If we break down the symbology of the number 13 we can get a glimpse of what it represents for the closeted version of Taylor. The duality of the 3 as the letter M or W when it's flipped on it's side discloses the true pronouns within her music. The 1 is the shape of her microphone, but also the shape of a grave. Her love for women has been buried for the sake of her career. (It’s also XIII in Roman numerals.)
"I'm so depressed I act like it's my birthday every day."
So if the 13 represents both Taylor's pop star persona with her birthday and the closeted version of Taylor, we can see how it epitomises both sides of the coin.
Coming out on the 31st of October would be an iconic date to reclaim the meaning behind the numbers and bring her love of women back out from the grave.

I just have a Protective/Rescuer Richie x Reader thought in my head I can't shake ATM. This got a bit longer than I thought also its after midnight forgive me if this is all over the place. I can't see straight anymore.
*note: i hate guns and kinda hate that he has one but anyway it kinda just fueled this scenario*
You've been working at The Beef a while. You're 'fully integrated'. Richie has a soft spot for you but you're Carmy's age and besides that he's a Hot Mess and Going Through Shit at the moment so he hasn't actually pursued anything.
One night it's late. Later than when you'd typically be at work. It's just you, Richie, and Carmy left behind cleaning and closing up. Carmy finished the kitchen and has himself holed up in the office. You're not fully convinced he hasn't actually just passed out at the desk from exhaustion, honestly. The day was a disaster and half the restaurant looked trashed. Carmy and Richie had an entire screaming fit over who should clean what and ultimately Carmy took kitchen and Richie took front of house (something about staying in their 'fucking lane' you heard them shouting). After a while Carmy let the rest of the kitchen staff leave because it was well passed a reasonable time to hold them even if there was stuff to do. Kitchen was mostly done anyway, and the bit that was left Carmy handled before heading into the office to 'sort some shit'.
So you and Richie worked front of house (as FOH was your domain, too). He was worked up, you could feel the frustration and aggravation in him spilling over. It was like holding your hand over a hot stove; the energy was radiating from him. You helped calm him a little. You put some music on (to keep you awake and to help you focus on cleaning) - it wasn't really his type and if it was anyone but you he would have made some snide comment on it. But because it was you he let you do what you wanted. You chose to put on Bastille's album Give Me the Future. It was a deliberate choice. It wasn't his type but the album has a sci-fi theme and references to some of his favorite things. During the parts with direct references you snuck glances at him to see if he was paying enough attention to notice. He did. He didn't acknowledge it verbally but you did catch him pause a moment, as if to process what he heard. You looked away and smiled. You liked he was paying attention at least.
As the night went on you tried talking him down a bit more. Tried to get him to at least smile. He wasn't receptive, however, so other than the music you worked in silence.
It was nearly finished. You turned off the music but left your phone on the table. You told him you'd take out the trash and that should be the last of it. You hated taking out the trash. One time you did and a raccoon jumped out at you. As much as you think they're cute it was terrifying to have one leap at you in the dark. It became a 'Richie job' after that but tonight his fuse was short and you were trying to do what you could to get things done quicker so he could get home and calm down.
He tried telling you not to, the most he'd spoken in a while. You told him you got it and walked off.
It was nearly 3am. It was pitch black outside. The flood light on the back of the restaurant had burned out so the only light you really had was what was spilling out from the open door. You held your breath and opened the dumpster. No feral but furry animal greeted you and you sigh in relief. So you toss the bag of garbage inside and close the lid.
Before you can turn around the light disappears. The back door closed and now you were left in the dark. Weird. You had propped it open. Someone would have had to have closed it. But they would have saw you, and why would they if they saw you out there.
Your stomach drops. You're afraid. You don't yet know why.
You're not far from the door. You're not afraid of the dark. You're just alone is all.
Except you're not alone.
You're walking towards the door and you're heart is already pounding and you don't yet know why when you hear what sounded like someone taking a step. You freeze and listen. You can't hear anything over your own breathing and your own heart beat so you hold your breath and try to will your heart to slow down.
You wish you hadn't been holding your breath because suddenly there's a hand over your mouth and an arm tightly wrapped around the middle of your torso making it hard for your lungs to fully expand. You're struggling to get enough air through your nose, your panic increasing your demand for oxygen making it feel like you are suffocating.
One of your arms was still free and you grasp at the hand over your mouth and, to your surprise, you manage to rip it away for a split second. You try screaming. You're not actually sure if you did. It felt like one of those nightmares where you try screaming for help but no sound comes out.
Whoever is behind you gets their hand back over your mouth. They wrap their leg around one of yours to pin you for a moment so you don't dart away when they remove their other arm from your body for a split second to grab something from their jacket. You don't know what but you do feel them place their arm tightly around you once more.
They speak. A man. He's demanding things. Money, drugs, whatever of value you could give. You're crying. You have nothing. But they want something. And you just want to get away. You want to be inside with Richie and Carmy and you don't want to be in the dark alone, but not-alone, with this man who has you in his arms and who smells awful and who has something in his hand and maybe it could hurt you but you don't know what it is.
You aren't sure if its better to freeze or to try and get away but being frozen hasn't worked this far. You just need to turn around and make it to the door. You just need to get your hand free and scream. Maybe someone would hear you. Maybe you'd be able to get to the door and open it and call out to Carmy and Richie.
You kick your foot forward to try and knock his leg from around yours. It works a bit. He staggers as he looses his balance slightly. The hand on your mouth slips, just a tiny bit, and for a split second but you can scream. You call out for Richie. The thing he was holding was a knife you realize as the blade grazes the side of your arm as he stumbles and steadies himself and retightens his hold on you. Then the fingernails on the hand around your mouth dig into your cheek and chin as he repositions his hand. He pulls you backwards. To pin you tighter or to move you you're not sure because you feel like cement now. You feel like your bones turned to stone.
He's speaking to you, voice harsh, but you don't know what he's saying. You close your eyes tight and try to block out everything happening.
You don't see the light from the restaurant spill out through the open door. You don't hear heavy footfalls approach. You don't hear the sound of a fist slamming into the side of your assailants head.
You do feel the body around yours shift and the grip loosen. You do feel them get violently ripped away from you. You do feel someone grab your arm and pull you towards them.
You open your eyes. Carmy is pulling you against him. Your back is against him and both of his arms are around you. He's holding you tightly against him and turning you so his body is between yours and your attackers. He's trying to guide you back inside.
You turn your head and look over his shoulder.
The man who last had your body against his was now on the ground. He had been knocked to the ground, one arm was propping him up so he wasn't laying on his back, the other was pressed tightly to his temple. His eyes were closed. The light wasn't the best but you thought you saw blood. The knife he had been holding was on the ground. Light danced on the part of the handle that was exposed. The blade itself was being stood on, securing it to the ground.
From your angle you could see both men. Richie to the left, and the attacker to the right. Richie loomed over him. His foot pinning the knife to the ground, keeping it out of reach of the man who had attacked you. His arm was outstretched, in his hand was his gun. You saw your attacker open his eyes and realize the situation he was in. You saw Richie look into the man's eyes and slowly shake his head twice. In a way it was as if Richie was silently conveying to the man that he not only made a terrible mistake but that he should not dare try anything else now or ever.
Carmy got you inside before you could see anything else. He took you to the back office, sat you down in the chair, shut the door and locked it. He came over to you, crouched down so he could be eye level with you and asked if you were okay. You nod.
He almost accepts your answer until he sees the scratch on your arm from where the knife had grazed you.
You caught a glimpse of Carmy's hand as he held your arm to look at the wound. His knuckles were bloody. You didn't feel or see any obvious bleeding on your arm. You realized it wasn't your blood, and it wasn't his either.
There was a knock at the door followed by Richie's voice calling for Carmy to let him in. Carmy stood and answered the door.
"She good?"
You nod despite not being the one asked.
"He cut her. On the arm."
"I'm fine." Your voice hurt. You didn't realize you had screamed that loudly.
Richie crossed the small room over to you. "Show me." He had crouched down like Carmy had before.
You looked at it yourself for the first time. The mark ran from the middle of your upper arm to a few inches below your elbow. It wasn't bad. You were lucky. It looked more like a cat scratch than anything.
You were left alone with Richie as Carmy fetches the things Richie ordered.
"That's nothing," you rasped.
He gently took your arm in his hands and examined the cut.
"Carmy. Water. Paper towels. Get her something to drink. Fuck's sake." He ordered.
He stood and reached down for your hands. "C'mere." He helped you up and once you were standing he wrapped his arms around you and held you tightly against him. You wrapped your arms around his body as if he would leave you if you let go, though he had no intention to.
When he spoke to you now his voice was softer. His eyes locked with yours. You were always stunned by how bright and blue they are. "You okay sweetheart?"
"I'm fine." but it came out as a whisper, and you were crying.
You closed your eyes. It didn't stop the tears from falling.
You could feel the warmth of his body, the rise and fall of his chest with his breathing, the security of his arms wrapped around you. You could smell his cologne. You could hear his heartbeat and then the way the sound of his voice reverberated in his chest and against your ear as he spoke softly.
"I got you."

Independent Album Review:
3D Country by Geese

I still have plenty of asks from people about music to review, but I figured there's plenty of room to talk about stuff I've been listening to independently!
So in my exploration into getting back into Apple Music, I decided I would not initially import all my previous music from Spotify, in attempt to get a new swing at the algorithmic content it would send my way, and it's worked certainly! The first song I heard by Geese was actually off their first album Projector, and I ended up trying to listen to that one for a little while. My final thoughts on Projector was that it was entirely interesting, but unfortunately not very memorable at first blush, but it showed a lot of promise. When I had told my girlfriend that I had started listening to them, she had noted that she recognized the 3D Country album art and said she'd heard at least one or two songs and thought that they were pretty good, so I jumped in pretty much immediately. And I'm glad I did!!
3D Country starts off with Cameron Winter's isolated voice, followed up shortly after by the blues rock number "2122". I think Cameron's voice is one of the most interesting things about Geese by far; it's extremely hard to tell what his default range is? He tends to sing in a slightly baritone register for the most part, but he's certainly not afraid to get up into his head voice, and it just works! The difference between where he's singing in the track "3D Country" and then in "Cowboy Nudes" nearly feels like a completely different singer. Honestly he sort of reminds me of Julian Casablancas, whereas Julian usually sings higher and occasionally goes lower.
Geese is one of these really exciting sorts of bands that I would lump in with BCNR, Black Midi, Maruja, and King Krule... I feel that, at least in the genres that I tend to listen to, there's been a lot of stagnation, and these bands feel like they're at the forefront of some well welcomed movement in the scene. And I always feel like you can really tell when this is happening when descriptions of these bands tend to offer like five or six different genres to attempt to give someone an idea what to expect.

To me, this reads as us being on the precipice of a new genre, or at the very least, a new subgenre, which is always very exciting to me. Obviously, genre is most often used descriptively instead of prescriptively (or at least, it is typically sought to be), but even in this, genre labeling, I feel, often allows for more focus into a particular sound, so to say that genres should only ever be descriptive seems a little reductive.
With that being said, while listening to this record, I kept thinking to myself "This is just Funkadelic for white people". Which was completely a joke, in my typical style of saying really broad statements about music that are reductive, but as I went on through it started feeling more real to me. "I See Myself" could honestly just be a track on Maggot Brain.
Anyway, I highly recommend giving this album a shot, and to keep an eye on Geese throughout the future, this is definitely a top 2024 album for me (even though it is a 2023 album..).
A VERY solid 8/10 for me, I think the album is pretty front loaded, but all of the tracks on it are all well enough and fitting for the album in their own right, and if Geese keeps moving like this, their next album might be an all timer for me..

Second listen through of the Vengeance saga and here are my thoughts
Pre thoughts (only livestream): kinda underwhelming tbh! I did like NSFLY more than i thought I would and Dangerous was amazing as expected but the other songs didn’t match up to my expectations. I get the whole anime angle for 600 strike but it feels… too much? I think the individual character decisions made sense but it didn’t feel cohesive to the entire narrative.
Thoughts after a relisten: definitely feel better about the whole album, I think giving it a fair chance without the expectations I had made me like it more. NSFLY has absolutely gorgeous vocals and music. I see people saying this song justifies calypso (and that’s not ok because her behaviour was still wrong) and I really disagree? It’s just showing her POV and I think it’s still possible to empathise with her while also very much seeing how the things she did were unacceptable regardless. It’s a really nice song and Wangui’s vocals are *chef’s kiss*
Dangerous is probably my favourite song on the saga. No notes I love Hermes I love the vibes I love the subtle emotion behind everything.
Charybdis grew on me immensely, I didn’t like it as much on the first listen but it’s really nice actually and the tone shift at the end is probably my favourite part.
Get in the Water! I will say this song probably disappointed me the most on the first listen because I had high expectations but honestly? It’s a bop. I think the first part of it until “ruthlessness is/mercy upon/ourselves” is fucking incredible. It’s exactly the perfect amount of tension and terror that I wanted. The part after that feels like it could be a different song?? Like it feels like the tension breaks. It’s not even bad, I just feel like that part would have been better at the start of 600 strike than where it was. I like how the open arms reprise was ‘you can relax my friend’ but tbh I don’t understand why we had an open arms/Eury/mom reprise when a Penelope/Telemachus reprise fits better thematically. It still sounds really good though.
600 strike: probably the only song in the entire musical that I dislike. I’m someone who tends to focus more on story/lyrics than music, and while the music and vocals were probably my favourite in this saga, the story just fell flat for me. I’m not gonna talk about how it’s not an accurate adaptation, because I don’t think that matters (not to go too deep into that but tbh i don’t think it needs to be an exact recreation of the odyssey, like I think it’s fine that we deviate and epic is its own thing like that’s not my gripe with it). I know the popular fandom consensus is that it’s badass and this may be an unpopular opinion but I don’t… really want… to hear someone get tortured? It feels gratuitous. I feel like if the intention was to make the audience uncomfortable they definitely succeeded. I think 600 strike is a tragedy- it really is no longer him, as Poseidon said- he’s truly a monster now. Look at what he’s had to become. He’s truly lost a part of himself to get home and I think that’s sad. Last line was a great mic drop though lol.
It’s hard for me to totally encapsulate my feelings. Endings are always difficult in a story and while it missed the mark for me I don’t think that makes it a bad album. If I’m being honest, the music and vocals were really nice- but considering that the lyrics and story are more important to me, I hope you can see why it doesn’t hit as hard for me.
I think the album will grow on me so I’m excited to listen to it.

it’s funny to me that half of the songs on my album (and honestly some of the best ones) focus on parallels and comparing the people from my life that the songs are about to pop culture figures, either celebrities, fictional characters, or historical figures
so here’s basically the cheat code to half of my album, what the songs mean, who and what they’re about, and what i reference in the lyrics
No One Like You is still prolly the most insane song I’ve ever written, it’s about hooking up with my ex from high school and EVERYTHING, down to the title, is a reference to him playing Gaston in high school theatre
Sycophant is about me cutting off my ex best friend, and was written around the release of the TBOSAS, wherein nearly the entire song is a metaphor that also fits the roles of Sejanus Plinth and Coriolanus Snow as well as me and her, respectively
Crowned Hearts was largely inspired by a real family that survived the Titanic that I’d learned about after having recently visited the Titanic museum and getting randomly assigned the boarding pass of the wife/mother, only to find out she shared my birthday and died in my hometown in the same hospital i was born in, that she’d been a member of the local theatre AND the country club I’d gone to with my high school ex, and had a very similar personality and interests to me. Crowned Hearts is about my at the time recent ex who helped me find her (and her son’s) grave, after we broke up i then proceeded to WRITE this song in 45 minutes flat AT her grave, wherein her and her first husband who she survived the Titanic with represented us, with the new guy i was starting to fall for that i worked with representing her second husband, who she also worked with
and finally, Torture Me is about a night i spent with my situationship/friend/fwb/failed talking stage (the aforementioned coworker), and verse 2 is almost entirely about how we happened to only watch Matthew Lillard movies together AND how he looked like Matthew Lillard when he was younger, making Matthew a sort of inside joke of ours (not in a making fun of him way, just constantly joking about how funny it was how relevant he was to our friendship) and a HUGE motif of this guy ANY TIME, no matter how subtly, i mention Matthew Lillard in a song
(also my latest song, Best for Last, which isn’t part of my debut album cuz it’s doesn’t fit in the Heart of a Siren, Soul of a Bard vibe and/or timeline, is ENTIRELY based on the Matthew Lillard motif and is actually ABOUT me meeting Matthew and titled after something he said to me personally, and about growing apart from this former situationship. definitely a deep cut, im really excited about this one.)

Something that always bothers me is how people talk about Paul taking the role of the manager after Brian's death.
Yes, Paul took the initiative and managed a lot of the projects like MMT etc. and especially John and George were pissed off by this, but when you think about it for literally two seconds, you realize why Paul did it. He's always said how important the Beatles were to him, has called them his second family. He never expressed any interest in managing the band while Brian was still alive and after the Beatles broke up, his focus was always on making music, not the managing part of his job. Everyone makes him seem like this power hungry demon who was just waiting for his turn at the steering wheel, but there are so many things that point to him just trying to literally save what was most important to him: this band.
He's been known to throw himself into projects when grieving, mourning by not mourning. John was devastated by Brian's death and (I assume) in no fit state to think about what project would make the most money or whatever. While everyone was sitting on their asses (I know this is a mean way to put it, but I'm pissed off), Paul actually took matters into his own hands.
"He was too bossy". Was he bossy? Probably, yes. But someone fucking had to be, or the Beatles would have crashed and burned. I do understand why everyone wasn't happy with how things were going, George who already felt like the little brother who was sort of tagging along but not being taken seriously enough was obviously pissed that this "power dynamic" for lack of a better word was only increasing, and John, who had always been equal to Paul in literally anything didn't like the idea of Paul having power like that and being "above" him. But really, what would have been the better scenario? John managing the band? The same person who pissed off entire countries in like every second interview and had to make public statements and apologies about half the things he said? I think John was very smart and I find his wit and candor very endearing, but if he had been the one in charge, chances are the Beatles would have blown up. He's a fantastic artist, but not very smart about money etc etc, so not exactly the perfect fit for the role of a temporary manager. George? Perhaps he’s smarter about money (although he apparently didn’t understand the importance of paying taxes?) and publicity, but at that time he was completely infatuated with India, Hinduism and meditation and so on. I don't mean to say that was inherently bad, but I think Paul was the one with the most common sense. He knew how to charm the press to keep from getting into scandals (I mean, even when he was arrested for weed, he managed to sort of wiggle out of it. Nobody gave a shit). If Paul hadn’t been born a musical genius, I think being a manager would be a good fit for him. As for Ringo, I love the guy more than I can say but half the time in Get Back while decisions were being made he was completely zoned out, staring at walls. I honestly don't think he was very much interested in managing. So, perhaps a democratic regime where everyone gets a vote? Sure, if you want to get absolutely nothing done at all you let many people decide. I don't mean to sound like a monarchist, but I very much doubt an anarchistic management would have worked.
Now when you look at the years that came after, everyone was half in love with Allen Klein, but Paul was weary and didn't want to back down. And who turned out to be the Judas in this Bible? Allen fucking Klein. I don't mean to say Paul should have become the official manager, but I just find it baffling when people make it seem like he was trying to gain power over his best friends or whatever. There was no ideal outcome of this situation, because Brian was fucking dead. Of course it wasn't all peaches and cream. But there weren't (m)any scandals and they got a few albums done. That's, in my opinion, more than what would have happened if Paul had sat back and watched.

i want to preface this by saying that i became a fan of taylor after lover (which is ironic because it's one of my bottom 2 albums by her) but honestly i don't really care for taylor anymore, i saw her in july last year and enjoyed the concert and everything but again that was mainly because of the experience of it being my first big stadium show and the vibes of everyone dancing and singing along. and i'm really glad that i did have that experience. but i literally listened to ttpd once and i can't stand midnights for the most part, and my dislike for the music coupled with the way she's acted in the past year has really turned me off of her.
that being said, i think it's fascinating how taylor coopts whatever is big in the moment as part of her aesthetic for that album. like for lover era she was huge on politics and activism and lgbtq/women's rights because that kind of advocacy was really mainstream and popular at the time. and now it's been like four years since then and she doesn't really outwardly express any political sentiment one way or another. for folklore and evermore she really leaned into the quiet/homey/cottagecore aesthetic that was so popular during quarantine. and for midnights and the poets album she is really leaning into that whole depression/mental illness vibe that's really popular on social media right now, especially with the i'm just a girl rhetoric that's huge on tiktok. i can't really articulate that link super well but i feel like it's definitely there lol
all that to say, taylor's choice in aesthetics are so varied and that's fine in some cases i guess , but in some cases switching up like that out of nowhere is outright harmful - like her not caring about politics anymore, or romanticizing the "mental illness aesthetic" like she's doing right now. i don't know what i'm trying to get at here, but i feel like she wants to make sure she's as "in" as possible without considering how with such a large platform she is actively offending hundreds of thousands if not millions of people. and sure maybe she's disconnected from reality because of her fame so she can't really understand the impact of her actions (personally i don't think this, just a counterargument) but what i really don't understand is why someone on her team or a friend doesn't just say this to her. does no one care?
i totally agree and while reading this i may have thought of a possible reason she does this. i feel like this trend you're talking about really kicked into high gear with lover and making the entire theme of the album involve something very hot in the culture at the time, and what also kicked off at the time was Taylor being worried about her aging out of the industry and not being allowed to be successful anymore, like her talking about lover being her last chance for a hit album. so i think she, consciously or not, wanted to make sure she was keeping up with trends and being young.
and like you said this extends to now where it's very obvious she's not learning what the actual mental health terms mean and is more using them in a trendy way, she's not giving them any weight or making it known that she's serious, because serious mental health conversations aren't trendy, using them for dramatic purposes is. calling yourself 'delusional', 'manic' or having intrusive thoughts for comedic, dramatized purposes is what everyone is doing and now she's including herself in this trend of casual ableism and has also now crossed a line into blatantly using it for aesthetic purposes.
again whether this is a conscious choice or not, she's really just coming across as so un-self-aware and has no feet on the ground whatsoever, to the point where she'll just go with what's trendy to fit in with the young generation and make them like her and it's gotten to the point of no return it feels like

Let's Talk About Omori!

PART 1 - The 'Incident'
Honestly, I have no idea where to start as Omori and it's story is so beautifully complex and carefully written- and I want to be able to write and express my ideas about it without leaving out the small details that makes Omori what it is and mischaracterizing any of the unique characters. (which is extremely common in this fandom) Just know that I am not an expert in any way possible, I'm just a silly little omori fan wanting to write about their interests. TW: talk of death, suicide, and violence.
Mari & Sunny

To start this off, I think we should talk about the history behind Mari and Sunny. Using what we were shown in Final Duet and Basil's photo album, Mari was likely a leading role in Sunny's life- introducing him to music and his friends. Since it's obvious that Sunny doesn't speak a lot, Mari probably did most of the speaking for him. Despite not showing his emotions clearly, we can assume that Sunny cared for Mari and trusted her a lot. Multiple times in the game, Mari was described as having a 'bad knee'. If you go to the tree house in RW and interact with the baseball bat, it'll tell you about how Mari quit softball due to a leg injury. (i don't know if this is accurate i pulled this from the omori wiki) This makes me think that music might've been Mari's last resort, angry and upset with herself (as we can assume that she was a perfectionist) and devoting all of her time into music- eventually pulling Sunny in with her.
The Recital + Mari and Sunny's Stress

As I said before, Mari was probably a major perfectionist. When proposed with the (likely Mari's) idea of a recital, this stressed Sunny out- as I fully believe Sunny had some major stage fright- and caused him to lose focus, and make mistakes. This might've stressed Mari out a lot as well, trying not to be upset with Sunny though she wanted the piece to be perfect. This led Mari to overworking Sunny until he eventually couldn't take it any more.
The Incident

Finally, it happens. After what I think would be weeks of overworking, Sunny snapped on Mari. I think Sunny was likely extremely burnt out and ended up telling Mari about his stress and other feelings about the recital, to which Mari responded with offense and maybe even anger, causing Sunny to feel as if his feelings were being invalidated. This quickly escalated the situation, Sunny getting angrier as they began to argue- before walking out on her. At this point, Mari was probably PISSED, believing that Sunny was throwing away everything that she worked for. This became a lot more literal when Sunny threw his violin down the stairs, breaking it entirely. This likely sent Mari into a full on fit, leading her to lash out on Sunny. This is probably when it got messy, Sunny feeling invalidated and offended, and Mari feeling as if her dream was being taken away from her once again, just like softball. Now, I fully believe that Sunny didn't mean to push Mari anywhere but away from him- but whether or not that's true- we don't know. Maybe, Sunny meant to push her down the stairs, but I think that's very unlikely. And do you remember how I told you about that knee injury Mari had? I believe, this probably played a major role in Mari's death, as many people could've survived this fall- even if they did end up with extreme injuries. Moving on, I think Sunny most likely didn't even realize what happened for a few seconds, but when he did he was probably sent into a major shock. This would also explain some of his actions, such as dragging her to the bed as if she was asleep. (not sure if this is what really happened or not, but it was shown in the photos of the incidents) Though it could be that he didn't even know she was dead, I think he knew, and was just clinging on to the slim possibility of her being alive.
Basil's Role

Basil's role in this situation is a tricky thing to talk about- as we don't know a lot about what he was thinking or feeling. The only information we can pull from him is what we were shown. So, I'm gonna start off with just that. I think that Basil probably didn't see the argument that led up to Sunny pushing Mari, and only walked in when things began to escalate. His main goal at that moment was probably trying to keep Sunny calm, and safe- though a part of him was still concerned about Mari. (i'll go into a lot more depth abt this in my basil analysis i plan on writing) This could explain why instead of calling the ambulance, or the police, he decided to do what he did- staging Mari's suicide by hanging her in Sunny's backyard. I believe that Basil was driven by his abandonment issues and extreme fear of ever losing Sunny. (basil and sunny's relationship was definitely very codependent) Instead of focusing on Mari, he focused on Sunny- which led him to something he would regret.

(it's been a very dry year for my favorite metal bands or this list would've been even more chaotic lmao)
1) Dear Insanity... by DPR Ian
while I struggled to rank most of these, there was absolutely no question about my #1 album of the year. I only just discovered DPR Ian in 2023 and he very quickly became my favorite artist ever. you might have even seen me talk about this album an unhealthy amount of times already lol. he's just such an insanely good artist and every single song on this album is just soooo damn good.
part of why I love him so much is also the story he tells throughout his music videos and just how insanely good all of his MVs look and how well the visuals fit the music so I feel obligated to link the MV to my favorite song off this album:

2) The World Ep.2: Outlaw by Ateez
everything Ateez releases is immediately getting added to my favorites, what can I say. I didn't have the money to go to their 2023 tour but I did see them live in 2022... absolutely worth the one and only time I ever caught corona. not a single bad song on this album, they're all absolute bangers.
3) Take Me Back To Eden by Sleep Token
I only just discovered Sleep Token in 2023 but I absolutely fell in love with this entire album and their style in general. almost got to see them live but then I ended up getting surgery on the exact day of their concert... :')
4) OO-LI by Woodz
I am a Woodz stan first and a human second. I'm convinced this man is incapable of releasing bad music, everything he does is just so damn good and I love how he explores a bunch of different genres while still making all of his music just sound like him y'know
also honorable mention to Amnesia which is only a single album so it didn't make the list but if you like more eerie stuff and the general vibe of his music, definitely check it out, I love it so much
5) On My Youth by WayV
WayV will forever have me in a chokehold. they've been my favorite NCT unit since their debut and honestly also the only unit I managed to properly keep up with over the last year ashgasj. I just really love their style of music and how they've actually been sticking to it
6) The Name Chapter: Temptation by TXT
It's truly been a TXT kinda year for me, I've been listening to them a lot. there aren't many songs on this album but I still love it so so much, all of the songs are great and Sugar Rush Ride is such a unique title track
7) Dark Blood by Enhypen
honestly Enhypen are part of the reason why I might have to update my top 3 kpop groups to a top 5 lol. all of their albums so far have been great and this one was no different, I still listen to a lot of the songs on it on repeat
8) RUSH! (Are U Coming?) by Måneskin
well what can I say, Måneskin have had me in a chokehold ever since they won the Eurovision and I actually got to see them live in 2023! drove all the way over to Berlin for them and everything, great album with great songs. I love both their more rock-ish songs and their slower songs and this album has a great mix of both (although I wish there would've been some more Italian songs on here)
9) MONO by K.Flay
K.Flay has been one of my more underrated faves for a couple years by now and I'll take any chance to gush about her music. there's just something very unique about K.Flay's music and this album certainly didn't disappoint. honestly, the only reason why I ended up putting this one on the "last" place is that I haven't listened to it as much as the other albums on this list

ODD-VENTURE by MCND
this is a rather recent one so I haven't listened to it enough for it to make the list, but I love everything MCND put out and this is definitely also a great album! (plus the title track is yeehaw kpop which is incredibly creative of them and I didn't know I needed that in my life)
HAPPYPILLS by Utsu-P
and this is where I expose the true chaotic nature of my taste in music lmao. Utsu-P's music is the perfect clash of world's between teen-me's obession with vocaloid and current-me's love for metal. I didn't include this album bc I still haven't gotten around to listening to all of it, but the songs that I did listen to, I absolutely loved
Phantomime by Ghost
oh you thought you made it through an entire post of me talking about music without mentioning Ghost? Hah, fool. jokes aside, this is an album full of cover songs so I didn't include it but it's still full of bangers. I reached audio cap now but I'll include their Jesus He Knows Me cover bc this was an absolute treat to witness live:

Pigeon Scratch Music Update, Late 2023 Edition!
Wasn't intending on not posting a single update on how things are going for over half a year, but that is just how the turn tables I suppose. A little bit of laziness and procrastination, a little bit of art block, stressing myself to near breaking point on multiple occasions, both in music making and overall life stuff. Summertime this year was pretty damn rough, the lowest my mental health had been for a while, and the next couple of months were just trying to bounce back from that. During that time at least I've been able to have a healthier relationship with music. Both in how I feel about my own work, but also in how I enjoy music by others. I've been able to get back into the swing of things. Now it's just procrastination. Let's start with some of the tracks for Northern Minnesota, Part II.

The most recent song I've been working on is with the working title "Fargo Breakdown." About five minutes long, the general gist for this song is to be a slow build with more guitars and drums added onto itself with every repeat. A really big shoegaze-y, post-rock, wall of sound style crescendo that just abruptly ends and sharply transitions into the next song. Current plans is to have this be the first song on the album, with "Pretty Pink Eyes," what I used to affectionately call "The Long Song" going right after it. Can't call it that anymore because now we got at least two songs that are over ten minutes long.
As I've grown more comfortable working on Ableton, and understanding how to more properly produce on it, I've grown accustomed to a more wall of sound approach for this album. It fits perfectly with the genres of music I am making here. Working on this song, as well as The First Snowfall (more about that track and Pretty Pink Eyes later), has actually been helping me determine the kind of style and tone I want, something I'm more comfortable settling on than I was with what I had for Pretty Pink Eyes and The First Snowfall a year ago. One thing I've realized while working on this album is genuinely how well Post-Rock goes with the concept of suffering with OCD, escapism, gender dysphoria, stuff along those lines. And I'm really excited about the idea of mixing my style in more with that genre. Post-Rock has always been such a massive inspiration for me, so I hope I can do it justice with my own little spin on it.

"Muni" is one I can't exactly remember if I did ever post about it here on Tumblr. I did scroll through my entire blog and checked my tags just to make sure, but I didn't see anything. Started working on this track earlier in the year, I believe after my Vancouver trip. About seven minutes long, this is definitely more of a two-parter of a song, in vain to Pretty Pink Eyes and The First Snowfall being multiple parts in a track. Starts off as a slow somber piece with a ton of reverb and cymbals crashing, and the second half being another breakdown. Plans is to have this track on the latter half on the album, almost right before the final couple of tracks. Honestly not much more to say about this, it's just a damn solid track that really came out of nowhere. I think a good thing about Northern Minnesota, Part II is that it's more focused on longer songs than amount of tracks. Focusing on a couple of songs at a time instead of a bunch of one to two minute long tracks really lets me work on the smaller details of these songs to sound exactly how I want them too. I'd also have to assume it's easier for some listeners to listen to a ten track long album than a twenty-five track long album, even if they are about the same length. I just think it's cool I can actually make longer songs.

"Actually Leaving" Is the only song that has been released in full, albeit as an old demo version on EFMC Vol. 2. It also has been shown in full on my Tumblr page as well, over a year ago. Track used to only be two guitar tracks and a drum track, but I decided for the breakdown bit at the end to double the tracks just to get that wall of sound I desire. Still planning to have this be the last song of the album, since it's such a great end piece. Especially now, since Fargo Breakdown and Actually Leaving both have the same vibe, and I like the idea of all the tracks being similar enough to each other to really feel like a concept album. These tracks have different chord progressions and arrangements, different pacings, but very similar ideas for the base. My main concern with Northern Minnesota, Part II is just making sure nothing is filler, and nothing sounds too samey, while also sounding like it all belongs on the same album. All the main songs I've been working on as of late, the ones that have and will be shown here, are very much based on some sort of build up and breakdown, crescendo type of song. Personally though, I think each breakdown I've done in these songs are different from one another. Each showcase a different style of crescendo. At the end of the day, its okay for some of these songs to sound similar to each other because this is a concept album in heart. And it's especially okay since I'm planning on these songs to be related to each other's concepts. Lyrics, arrangements, even song titles. I want to go crazy with the song titles especially, because I'm a fan of complexity in titles. There is gonna be a lot of part II's in parenthesis and reprisals in brackets, vice versa. Just makes me stupid giddy over the idea of it.

The First Snowfall is one of my absolute favorites on this album. The arpeggio melody in the beginning, the first breakdown with the noisy leads similar to Godspeed You! Black Emperor, the jam session in the middle, and the wall of sound, noise, and reverb at the end as it just gets faster and faster in each second. This song was an absolute blast to make, as well as incredibly difficult and painful. Specifically at the end with the increasing tempo. Playing that on guitar and drums and trying my damn best to keep up was really hard, but I think the sloppiness at the end works really well in its favor. Planning this to be the second to last track of the album, right before Actually Leaving. About ten minutes long. I'm a little concerned that going from the wall of sound to another breakdown might screw up the pacing a little bit, but the times I have listened to the transition, It works pretty well. If I do need to put a trick in between, I'm sure I can figure something out, but we'll see later on when I got more songs to work on.

I remember talking about "Pretty Pink Eyes" on my Tumblr literally a year ago, at the time I'm writing this. That image of Ableton didn't have this many tracks, that's for certain. For the past year I've been struggling with how this song sounded in comparison to everything else. That struggle only got worse as time went on, when I started songs like The First Snowfall, Muni, and especially Fargo Breakdown. This was the first song I started working on alongside Actually Leaving, back in late June of 2022. That was during the time I was still learning how to use Ableton, and how to use it exclusively, no Audacity. Because of that, it just sounded completely different no matter what I tried, and my confidence in music making severely plummeted. There came a point where this song no longer sounded like a song to me, and it sounded worse each time I tried.
At the end of last month I finally realized what my big problem was. It was how I was trying to fix it. Working on old varnish doesn't make things better. They don't mix well. I was working on set ups for tracks that I did a year ago, give or take. It didn't matter if I added another guitar track, or if I changed the distortion or the amount of reverb, or even if I included audio recordings of the song through my speakers into the mix, it wasn't gonna sound like how I wanted it to. I had to start from scratch. I kinda knew this for a while, but I was so afraid to do so due to how hard of a task I thought that would be, and I was afraid I wasn't gonna get exactly what I wanted. There were parts I thought that fit the album well already, and there was the thought it'd be pointless to just restart in that department. But again, there came a point where I just said screw it, and just do it. Wouldn't hurt to try. So I created a copy of the project, got rid of all the audio effects, and reset all the volumes and channels, and started from scratch. And holy hell, the entire song sounds so much better, and more accurate to what I wanted for the album. The amount of relief I felt after finishing the base of the mixing in just a week was literally indescribable, and it felt really good to have been able to do it without that much hassle. Three part song, with three breakdown parts. About eleven minutes long. It's finally the wall of sound I've always wanted it to be. And that makes me incredibly happy. Plans for it to go right after Fargo Breakdown. Whenever this album release, remind me to never work on the same song for over a year and a half ever again. That shit was fucking brutal.

Here is the current tracklist. For clarification, this is nowhere near a finished tracklist, both in order and amount. I want to fill in the middle part of this album more. I just tend to focus on the beginning and end the most. I got plans for a song that will also be ten minutes long that would go right before The First Snowfall. A more slower piece, similar to Snow Globes right before Basketball Shoes by Black Country, New Road. All of these songs shown here, except Actually Leaving, will include lyrics or at least vocals of some kind. I will probably release an instrumental version of this album in the future, whenever the album comes out. I really thought I was gonna release this album this year. That's kinda funny. Soon, I'll probably release some snippets of these tracks onto here, just for fun. Don't expect anything much, probably just thirty second pieces of my favorite parts of these tracks.
