don't you want to be a cult leader? - danyal al ghul au
this is mostly a joke post but i thought it was funny and had to share so--
his first mistake was, obviously, inheriting his father's inability to see an injustice and stand still. -- actually, danyal's first mistake was his lair being so big. a mountainous island with a large temple in the center resembling his old home in Nanda Parbat? With sprawling foliage and rivers and streams and waterfalls galore? What was he going to do with all that space? Let it go to waste? He had plants there! Native trees of the ghost zone growing from the soil! He couldn't let it all be left unchecked!
So naturally after helping a fellow teenage assassin ghost -- who he later learns is named Akihiko, -- from Walker of all people, he sent them over to hang low at his lair until it was safe enough for them to wander around the Zone. Walker couldn't get through Danyal's astrofield if his life depended on it, and trust him -- he's tried. Danny was clearing out debris from his stupid transport vans for weeks.
Honestly it wasn't so bad, he and Aki really quickly became fast friends and Danny loves having a sparring partner close to his level again -- he hasn't had this much fun fighting since he left the League. Aki was very dedicated and levelheaded, the both of them clicked really well because of it.
Nonono, the real trouble began after Danyal met some long-passed League members and allowed them to come join his island as well. Apparently they had made a few enemies of the zone, and maybe Danyal still felt some loyalty to the League. He couldn't just let them be left to rot. Their zealotry could be overlooked so long as they kept it contained and helped him take care of his island.
And it.. snowballs from there? He meets a teen squire aptly calling himself Ambroise -- whether that was his living name or not is yet to be seen -- who died during feudal france, who is just about as dramatic and passionate as every french stereotype makes them out to be. He calls Danyal "my moon and great muse" -- which is both flattering and little uncomfortable, but Danyal's grown up in the League as the Grandson of the Demon Head, he is used to mild worship. he passes it off as nothing more, nothing less. -- and while his energy is overwhelming on the worst of days, he helps Danny draw out of his shell more in ways that Sam and Tucker still struggle with.
Him and Aki butt heads a lot, but the two seem to hold the other in at least some positive regard, so Danny doesn't worry too much about them fighting while he's gone. It only becomes a mild issue when Aki also begins calling Danny "my moon". It's a little sweet, so Danyal brushes it off.
Then he takes in a troupe of ghosts some time after he defeats Pariah Dark and they begin calling him "great one" just as the yetis do in the far frozen. This is where he meets the twins -- a pair of sibling ghosts who call themselves Trixie and Missy (short for Trick and Mislead) -- who aren't quite as passionate as Ambroise but more energetic than Aki. Eventually they also start calling Danyal "my moon" and attach themselves to his hip, even within the living. They like to hide in his shadow and cause trouble for the rest of the students. He makes sure they don't hurt anyone.
He's pretty sure Aki is jealous, same with Ambroise, but he can't be too certain other than the fact that they become much more lingering (re: clingy) whenever he visits the island.. Something he's trying to do much more often these days due to the increasing amount of people living there now. Since when did he become so popular?
Then there's Pēnelópeia from the Greater Athens, who ran away from home and joined his Island after he ran into her while she was being chased by Skulker -- and he's pretty sure the reason was because of her chimeric appearance. Her strange eyes and mismatched wings and lion's tail and talons. She assimilates into his friend group very easily, she gets along well with Ambroise and Trixie and Danny usually finds the three of them climbing the trees to pluck the most fruit from the top. They can fly and he knows it, but they prefer to climb.
Then finally there's silent poet Akkara who comes from ancient mesopotamia, who gets along most with Aki -- which is no surprise there considering their similar personality dispositions. he watches Aki and Danyal fight each other and leaves comments on this or that that he notices. He writes Danyal poems on clay tablets and leaves them by his room.
They're one big mismatched group of outcasts, and Danny's got the other ghosts on his island to tend to, because they're living on his island and he wants to be hospitable even if he struggles with that. But he spends the most of his time with them.
Sam and Tucker are making fun of him. Tucker jokingly tells him 'careful Danny, at this rate you're gonna start a cult'. Danny really wishes he had taken that joke more seriously.
He just. keeps. collecting people. Wayward souls lost in the zone, looking for shelter or refuge from something or other -- whether that be another hostile ghost, or a past afterlife, or just a purpose. Danyal finds them, he takes them in, offers them a place on his island until they are ready to leave. Many seldom do. He's not complaining -- he has the space, and it feels like it's only ever growing.
His close friends, his "inner circle" as he's heard the others call them, keep insistently calling him "my moon". He starts calling them his stars, because then it only feels fair. They're his stars, this is his constellation. It becomes a thing; little star halos begin forming behind their heads, picking them out from the rest. He loves them so much, it's hard to place. Sam and Tucker are also his stars, but they reside in the living realm, they're his tie to Life. Meanwhile, his friends here know what it's like to be dead, and sometimes its nice to relate.
Those living on his island keep calling him "Great One" and he's beginning to notice zealotry in their care for his island. He really, deeply appreciates it. His close friends gain nicknames -- as his stars, it's only natural for him to pick them out from the cluster in the skies. Akihiko, his Sirius and bright star. Trix and Missy, Castor and Pollux, the twins and troublemakers. Ambroise, his zealous Antares and close friend. Penelopeia, chimeric and loyal Vega. And Akkara, his Arcturus and strength.
It's ridiculous how long it takes for him to notice; he is, of course, a deadly trained assassin. He is meant to be observant -- and normally he is! But somehow this becomes a blind spot. One that becomes too big to be dealt with by the time he realizes it.
He should've noticed when Aki, his Sirius, stood beside him one day while Danyal looked over his island and saw the sprawling spirits carrying on about their afterlife and bowing to him as they saw him, and said: "I looked down into the depths when I met you; I couldn't measure it." They aren't one for flowing prose, it took him so off guard he was silent for over a minute before he finally spoke.
Danyal should've recognized devotion for what it is, and yet he didn't. He should've recognized it when Antares began spouting praises about him, crowing about his radiance and resplendence to the heavens. He just brushed it off as Ambroise being Ambroise. He should've recognized it when Trix and Missy nearly broke Dash's leg after he knocked Danyal's books out of his hands, he excused it as them being protective. Of them coming from times where such violence may have been customary -- after all, that's what he used to be like. What he was still like, sometimes, when his emotions nearly got the better of him.
He should've noticed it when the people living on his island followed his word like gospel, looked at him like he hung the stars in the sky. When his friends gifted him a shawl with the moon phases delicately embroidered into it, with silver, shimmering thread and moving stars lovingly stitched into it. Their constellations seen clear as day in the dark fabric. When he found small shrines dedicated to him -- but they lacked any image of him beyond stones carved to look like moons, so he ignored it. When the religious imagery began popping up.
He really, really should've noticed it when a bunch of cultists accidentally summoned Antares, and Antares had turned to him when he arrived and called them heretics. But he was so centered on the fact that they had kidnapped one of his stars, that he hadn't paid much attention to what Ambroise had said.
Sages say that faith is blind, they should also say faith in you is even blinder.
It really only hits him one afternoon while he's sitting in Sam's room studying with Tucker, Missy and Trixie lounging at his feet, Aki sat on his right, Penelopeia braiding his hair, Ambroise draped against him, and Akkara lurking over him. Its one of the rare few times they're all in one room together.
It hits him like a bolt of lightning. He looks up from his textbook. "Oh Ancients," he says in no amounting shock. Everyone looks up to him.
"I've become my grandfather."

Welcome twt immigrants or just newcomers o///
Every week a new wave of twt refugees arrive and so I decided to put together a tumblr 101 to keep ur experience the most stress free and safe as possible
So here it goes:
You can delete comments or plain out disable comments from your posts! So much control.
You can also edit your posts. It even was a meme back on the olden days where a post would go viral and then the op (original poster) would change the post to something silly and the reblogers would look like wierdos or dumdums lol
You can disable your asks or make a rule so people can't ask as anonymous
Report spams!! You can even get rewarded for it. But, even so, report it, they get immediately taken down temporarily
The report system work and the tumblr team is very responsible when investigating an account/post. It's not nuance and easy to make. No one will judge you for it, in fact, it's common culture to do so. It's how we battle pornbots, spams, hate blogs etc.
You have full control of your blog! What people can see, what it can show, block hashtags and the whole shbang.
The algorithm works! Only the things that YOU search for and like will be recommended to you. And if something u no longer has interest in shows up? Just click that u don't want anymore and immediately everything u don't want goes away.
There are many famous blogs that are fun to follow, specifically as newcomer, to really get u on the tumblr experience such as: heritageposts, thebootydiaries, hotboyproblems, showerthoughtsofficial, fartgallery, haikubotofficial and many others. These are just the ones I followed when first arrived back in 2016;
Yes, there are celebrities among us but they're just... here. Vibing, chilling. The most famous ones being Neil Gaiman and Taylor Swift. Here they are just people;
You might have noticed a lot of blogs with blue verification badges. Some with 20 of them. Some are rainbow! That's because Tumblr made a parody of the verification mark from twt and it was fcking hilarius. We loved it so much that it's a thing now. U too can feel very important if u want!
It's worth going the trending tags. Sometimes they are broken, but it's mostly memes or important world news stuff that are actually relevant and helpful. It's safe and you'll have a fun time lurking on other people's fandoms. That's actually how I got into some of my fandoms to begin with;
Crabs.
And there we have it! I might have forgotten something, but I not too worried as I know that people might add it later on. 😉
Welcome welcome!! You'll be safe here. No matter who you are you find a community for you here
It's a hellsite, but it's our hellsite
Remembered something:
It's important to have a profile picture and header image. An reblog a few things before following anyone. Or you will be reported because people will think you're a spam bot kkkkkkkkk so do nurture your blog a little bit before venturing into the unknown.
#tumblr#twt#twitter#twitter refugees#welcome#I'm manly doing it because of the troubles qsmp community have been facing on the last few... months honestly#so just u guys know a little bit better how it all works#qsmp#fandom#also fun fact#tumblr is known as the ultimate hellsite because of the mechanics as they are very hard to learn how to get used to#and sometimes the site break kkkkk#or just#yeah#it's a meme now honestly#it's not a hellsite because of the people or something like that#sure like any communal place there will be buffoons#but they usually bother for a few weeks and them give up since it's such a work get visibility to your blog if you're being an asshole#oh yeah it's very common to use the tags to just ramble#just let out your thoughts#jesus christ so many typos

trump talking about 'remigration' and project 2025 having a 'denaturalization' section...if trump wins the next few decades are going to be so so fucking bleak for immigrants and refugees of any kind, and even if he loses, we still need a massive cultural shift in how migration is viewed to have any chance of dealing with the (already ongoing and set to escalate rapidly) climate change refugee crisis in a compassionate way. the whole way we view borders and citizenship has to change.
#honestly i'm deeply deeply pessimistic after seeing firsthand how horrible people have been about wildfire refugees#people from /one town over/ even. not just a lack of solidarity but a deep hostility#but you know. if we had a national government that doesn't embrace stripping people of citizenship and also#deporting all 'non-european' groups from the country. that wouldn't hurt.

You would never have had Tom Petty without The Heartbreakers. The proper accreditation and distinction between Tom Petty's solo work and Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers' work is vitally important.
To credit Tom Petty alone for songs that were not only arranged but also often co-written by members of The Heartbreakers (sometimes even singularly; there were plenty of instances where Tom was not really involved with the arrangement of the songs at all, and all he wrote were the lyrics) is to refuse to acknowledge the band as a working, necessary unit.
Linda Ronstadt said it better than I could, though:
I loved Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers the best, because they really were a band. Their songs and their arrangements are so good. They sounded exactly like they did on record because their arrangements put it so that everybody was flying in the same airspace. They weren’t competing with each other. They sound like a garage band on stage, but a good garage band.
#Tom Petty#Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers#forever the hill I am passing away on#it's fine. I'm fine with it. I'm here for a reason. that's good enough for me.#I know I said Tom often wasn't involved in the songs' arrangements at all and then only linked to one song as proof but#to be fucking fair that song was motherfucking ''Refugee'' which was and still is one of their GREATEST FUCKING HITS OF ALL TIME#so LMAO TELL ME TOM DESERVES ALL THE CREDIT. LIE TO MY FACE!!!!!!!!!!! DO IT.#I honestly wrote this with the intention of periodically reblogging this. lmao

i can tell twitter users are slowly going to make this website so, so much worse, and eventually do the impossible and make it go up in flames
#you thought tumblr was bad before... phew#bc the problem is.... more than likely its mostly just twitter leftists who came over here#and twitter leftists... are notorious for not getting along with anyone ever#and only getting along with people who agree w them exactly on everything#and also a lotta them are tankies :/#if you thought leftists were divided on here before its only gonna get worse lmao#twitter leftists are honestly really good at eating their own and they dont care thats what theyre doing. like at all.#literally the definition of doing politics for aesthetics also#like i thought tumblr was the bottom of the barrel but maybe its that way now bc of the twitter refugees#maybe that was the goal of rightwingers- to get all the leftists in one place where the right hardly even is and watch us#tear eachother apart as we try to search for the 'secret right wingers' in eachother#thats why they dont care about making twitter good- they want to destroy it bc it was originally a platform where the rights ideas#were challenged and it was easy to make a fool of them. but the right wants echo chambers for itself and wants ut to tear eachother apart#and what better way to do that ig than to get anyone whos disagrees w rightwingers away from them where they can#plot and come up w more bullshit to make the world worse while we're all infighting#and dont get me wrong there probably are secret rwingers but i dont think its who ppl think it usually is#like its probably not the guy whos outwardly ignorant about a topic- showing hes vulnerable enough about it to be#challenged on it.#no. the secret rwingers are gonna be nolife kiwifarm types. theyre not gonna be out in the open and public about their opinions#to where it can be challenged. theyre gonna hide behind accounts that LOOK like normal tumblr users#and sow division among all of us by talking the way ppl do on here and using the same buzzwords#and coming up with convoluted ways to 'callout' people over the dumbest shit imaginable#people who go around saying 'clearly this person meant this' in regards to a statement someone is making as clear#as they possibly can and the other person misinterpreting it in bad faith on purpose a lot? i dont trust it personally.#you have to ask yourself what ppl have to *gain* by doing that kind of shit a lot.#and if you cant come up with anything that benefits the left in any real capacity... well... i think you might have your answer

I know it wouldn't ever happen, but as someone who almost exclusively plays humans and has been attached to the GW human cultures since long before GW2 came out—
I think it would have been cool if human characters chose a subculture instead of a patron deity. Even if it doesn't affect story or appearance options any more than the choice of deity, I think being able to affiliate your character with the Canthan, Ascalonian, Elonian, or Krytan communities in DR would be really cool for character flavor, and the gods are present both through the prayer skills and their general omnipresence in human culture, so it's not like we'd lose them.
You only get the option to select your subculture if you take the "Missing Sister" backstory, as it is. And that's just one snippet of dialogue to generate your sister's appearance, even though the human cultures are far more internally diverse in terms of RL ethnicities than they were in GW1. I think it would have been very fun if you could get a bit of flavor text or something about your community in the story journal, at least.
#i actually like the social class origin stories and how wildly different the tones are#the noble story is fun politicking with zero consequences for you personally#the commoner and street stories make you choose between life and death (for random people or for your own bff)#but i do think the different subcultures could be richer#in terms of potential stories and development for your character#and going from being able to play as an ascalonian refugee or a canthan protégée or an elonian sunspear trainee#to having virtually no cultural choices at all is probably my least favorite part of gw2 humans honestly#still love them best though#t: greetings friend#r: for ascalon!#guild wars 2

hating ireland is an inevitable consequence of living here. heart emoji.
#its just that it is abysmally racist here#and while the donations to the choctaw and navajo nations are good deeds which helped people going through terrible things#where is that energy for travelers. where is that energy when people of color are targeted in the streets. by teens and adults#where is that energy for non white refugees and asylum seekers. where is it for homeless people#like the hypocrisy of a country that talks about its colonial past while still upholding racist and colonial structures every day. insane#honestly im just not. interested. in hearing stories about irish people reckoning with the famine which do not address#the way that ireland treats immigrants and refugees in similar situations.#like shut the fuck up#in all fairness im drunk but i feel this way when im sober as well

be safe!
#basharal-habil#asked and answered#no bombs no war#due to the sheer number of these in my inbox right now i'm not going to be tagging them 'free palestine' and 'support refugees' for now#i honestly don't know how much good i am doing by posting these and it seems i just get more and more requests#and most of these get little attention#i will try to answer the ones from people i have already encountered#but i don't think a deluge is necessarily helpful because realistically speaking i don't have a LOT of followers#and there will only be so many online at the same time#especially since my main fandoms are not particularly active right now#all this to say that i will try to get to all of them in a timely manner#but tagging them seems to garner more fundraisers rather than more donors

Hmm. Realising I definitely feel a lot of resentment towards mom for the past year
#Having a mentally ill parent isn't for the weak folks#I love her so much but JESUS#She hasn't made life easy the past year :/ like. When we needed her to step up the most she did the opposite#The amount of times she came to me w her wild emotions talking like a wronged child... The ptsd is real#The best thing I did all year was learn to set boundaries w her#I honestly think it was good for her too#Things have slowly gotten better in the family. But now every now and then i suddenly get so annoyed w her#There's moments where she really seems emotionally stable and almost happy even. And that's what I wanted to happen! So badly!#But fuck a part of me really feels resentful that she couldn't be like this earlier#Why couldn't you help us the way you're now helping the kids at the refugee centre.. Like I'm glad she has an outlet#But fuck dude it does kinda hurt to think she's being a better more stable mom to those kids than she was for us last year when we needed it

Sooooo ummmmmmm this is something that's probably going to piss a lot of people off, but I feel like I really need to say it.
If you get a message from an account claiming to be a Palestinian fundraiser, it is a bot. It is a scam. You need to report & delete the message and encourage others to do the same.
I know because I get messages on this account DAILY. I have a very high follower count and I'm pretty active and I interact with my followers a lot, and apparently that all adds up to one big bot magnet.
Bots following and messaging this account was a MASSIVE problem before Tumblr fixed its new account policies. I used to spend literally hours blocking and reporting the hundreds of bots that I would get following me each day.
I learned a lot about bots and how to identify them. The easiest way is with no avatar, "untitled" in the blog description (BTW if your avatar is still set to default PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD change it because you run a substantial risk of being accidentally blocked & reported as a bot).
One of the dead give aways of a bot was what I call "word salad" names. Three seemingly random words strung together making no sense, always adjective, adjective or noun, noun. If you reported a lot of these bots, you'd notice the same words kept showing up.
Nowadays, I am bombarded with fundraiser requests and sometimes, they don't even bother to hide the fact that they're a bot. The avatar is default, the blog title is "untitled," and the blog name is a classic randomly-generated word salad.
However MOST of the requests I get come from at least semi-legit looking accounts. There are pictures, a name, a story. Never mind that I've gotten that message three times from different accounts.
Sometimes, they claim to be vetted, but the whole vetting system essentially adds up to "trust me bro." There is no way of guaranteeing that this account isn't just lying about being vetted, claiming to be vetted by a false person, or are using the identity of a real Palestinian to scam people.
Previously, I've seen a lot of people getting attacked for raising questions about these fundraisers and getting attacked for being racist or for harming Palestinian families in danger, like Tumblr isn't a website famous for its scams and the words "The Arkh Project" "All or Nothing" or "Miss Officer and Mr. Truffles" mean nothing to you.
I personally have been scammed by people claiming to be charities on Tumblr before, specifically, The Leelah Project which used the name of a trans teenager who died by suicide to swindle people out of their money.
Luckily, there are actual, respected charities out there you can give money to if you want to help the cause:
Palestinian Children's Relief Fund
Palestine Red Crescent Society
United Nations Relief Works Agency
Islamic Relief
World Central Kitchen
Médecins Sans Frontièrs
One of the hardest things to accept about the situation in Palestine is that realistically, there is very little that your average outsider can do to change it. However, these large, well-respected and trustworthy charities are out there doing the hard work to keep people alive, and should be where the donation money is going
These scam bots feed on people's naïvety and need to believe that they are making a difference, and even worse, feed on the fear that by ignoring them, it somehow makes you a racist doing direct harm to a refugee family, when in fact they are using the suffering of Palestinians to take away money from those in need.
As far as fundraisers that don't send out random asks for donations, I honestly don't know. You'll have to do the work yourself and approach with much caution.
Be careful out there.

#I can believe that it was the lowest death toll of any kinslaying#that they went in with a specific purpose and that purpose was the silmaril#and while they were much more skilled at killing than they were at Alqualondë#they were similarly much more skilled at deliberately disabling then shoving aside#AND I don’t think it would’ve taken much to prompt the iathrim to flee at that point#ESPECIALLY once dior was dead#I think the spiders & other monstrous creatures were already moving in; with the girdle gone#THAT SAID I do not buy that interpretation of the oath#I think it’s just that by Sirion the Fëanorians had concluded that hitting people until they got the jewel then running wasn’t an option#(bc it didn’t work in Doriath; and threats alone didn’t work in Alqualondë!)#the only way was to kill and then take it from dead hands#so—fine#fine. we kill everyone in our way. and then we take the jewel. (via @tanoraqui)
Doriath vaguely hot take : very few people were actually killed during the second kinslaying (unlike the third)
I've been rereading stuff, and I've come to the conclusion that, contrary to popular opinion, the second kinslaying was not a massacre of epic proportions, with many civilian victims, but an episode on a much smaller scale, unlike the massacre in Sirion.
For the following reasons :
I. Any description/allusion to Doriath in the text focuses on Dior as the (almost) only victim of the third kinslaying :
"But Dior returned no answer to the sons of Fëanor ; and Celegorm stirred up his brothers to prepare an assault upon Doriath. They came at unawares in the middle of winter, and fought with Dior in the Thousand Caves ; and so befell the second slaying of Elf by Elf. There fell Celegorm by Dior's hand, and there fell Curufin, and dark Caranthir ; but Dior was slain also, and Nimloth his wife, and the cruel servants of Celegorm seized his young sons and left them to starve in the forest."
That's the main description of the second kinslaying we have, and Dior and his wife are the only direct victims mentioned (on the non-Fëanorian side).
Later on we read this about the Silmaril in Sirion : "Then Elwig and the people of Sirion would not yield the jewel which Beren had worn and Lúthien had worn, and for which Dior the fair was slain (...)"
Again, no mention is made of any victim but Dior (Nimloth is completely forgotten there).
And finally, in the third mention we have of the second kinslaying : "But Eonwë answered that the right to the work of their father, which the sons of Fëanor formerly possessed, had now perished, because of their many and merciless deeds, being blinded by their oath, and most of all because of their slaying of Dior and the assault upon the Havens."
Again, the only mentioned victim is Dior, and there is no indication of further victims. Now, it could be a bias of our sources, who do favour the famous and high-born (and ignore for example armed guards that could have been there), and also Melian/Elwing's line.
BUT :
II. That would make sense if we consider that Doriath was at the time of the second kinslaying recovering from an episode of violence on a, I would argue, much bigger scale :
After Thingol was killed, many people were killed in the fighting between the Dwarves and Elves in the caves of Menegroth ("For there was battle in the Thousand Caves, and many Elves and Dwarves were slain (...). But the Dwarves were victorious, and the halls of Thingol were ransacked and plundered").
Probably, crucially, the majority of these victims were the few warriors that they had. Others were probably killed as well fighting the dwarves later on with Beren and Dior, to avenge Thingol and recover his treasure.
So at the time of the second kinslaying, Dior might have had a few armed guards around him, but the impression we get is that he fights the Sons of Fëanor alone, and I would venture that his wife is killed when she tries to come and defend him.
The rest of the population of Doriath would be non-combatants who just flee, probably like they just fled the first time.
And that's why the text says that "a remnant of the people fled" from Doriath : it's not "a remnant" because the Fëanorians killed them all, it's "a remnant" because they were already what was left of Doriath at the time of their attack.
III.It would also explain why during the third kinslaying some of the people of the sons of Fëanor turn against them, but not during Doriath.
"For the sons of Fëanor that yet lived came down suddenly upon the exiles of Gondolin and the remnant of Doriath, and destroyed them. In that battle some of their people stood aside, and some few rebelled and were slain upon the other part aiding Elwing against their own lords (...)"
We are told that Sirion is : "the last and cruellest of the slayings of Elf by Elf ; and that was the third of the great wrongs achieved by the accursed oath". Sirion is a massacre on a large scale, unlike Doriath.
It would also explain why the third kinslaying is referred to in collective terms, not by singling out one individual. Eonwë talks about "the assault upon the Havens."
IV.I think the reason for the difference in terms of scale of violence between Doriath and Sirion is a strict reading of the Oath :
As a reminder, that's the text of the oath in the Silm : "They swore an oath which none shall break, and none should take (...) vowing to pursue with vengeance and hatred to the ends of the World Vala, Demon, Elf or Man as yet unborn, or any creature, great or small, good or evil, that time should bring forth unto the end of days, whoso should hold or take or keep a Silmaril from their possession."
In Doriath, the Sons of Fëanor ask Dior to return the Silmaril. Dior refuses, Dior is slain.
In Sirion however, it's not just Elwing that refuses to return the Silmaril : it's Elwing "and the people of Sirion". The people of Sirion, collectively, therefore fall under the "vengeance and hatred" of the Sons of Fëanor. And that's why the massacre is on a bigger scale, and some of the Sons of Fëanor's people chose to turn against their lords.
V.It would finally make sense in terms of the gradual descent into violence of the Sons of Fëanor
Time and again, we see them (or at least Maedhros) try and keep the violence to a minimum. He (they) try diplomatic solutions, try and ignore the oath, but "the oath of the sons of Fëanor was waked again from sleep. (...)".
There is a graduation in the violence : first the massacre at Alqualondë, which is not premeditated, then the slaying of Dior and his wife over the Silmaril, then finally the attack over the population of Sirion and, later on, the attack against the guards of the host of the Valar.
#kinslayings#second kinslaying#dior#doriath#house of feanor#feanorian minions#long post#yeah it’s interesting. not sure i agree with it but it’s interesting#wrt the feanorians knowing how to disable someone without killing them - did they?#they practiced these skills on the orcs and i’m not sure if i see the noldor having. any of the necessary mercy#honestly i suspect ‘kill anyone who comes after you with a weapon’ would be down to a reflex in a lot of them#i can believe that the plan was to get to dior as fast and as bloodlessly as possible#but i don’t believe it worked. all the kinslayings are chaotic messes and this one was no exception#also worth noting… i’m pretty sure at least some of the feanorian host had big personal grudges against doriath#for a variety of reasons. but the most recent is thingol refusing to let refugees from himlad into his lands#big ‘how dare *they* call *us* kinslayers when they left our people to the spiders’ energy#i mean. if there’s one thing the fate of elured and elurin tells us it’s that some of the minions did indeed bear a grudge#not saying the second kinslaying was justified of course#just that it’s the kind of thing you can justify to yourself if you’ve been marinating in feanorian kool-aid for five hundred years

with my nakba posts, here's some website recommendations if you want to learn on the history of specific depopulated palestinian areas:
palestine remembered is probably the most famous and comprehensive website with full documentations of former locations and depopulated villages. it also lists information on palestinian refugee camps, guestbooks, and the ability to submit pictures/info if you know of any. information on each village varies.
zochrot is an organization dedicated to teaching both palestinians and israelis about the 1948 nakba (which is not covered well if at all in israeli schools, as you can probably imagine), which includes documenting information on villages and even an app. information on each village varies.
the interactive encyclopedia for the palestinian question's places page has some detailed histories and a map as well, but doesn't go into the detail of the last two sites, and doesn't have pictures or sources.
some villages also have their own websites, and many of them are also in english (for example, the one i linked for kafr bir'im). honestly just look up (village name) + website and if it's there you'll find it.
wikipedia also has surprisingly comprehensive coverage of the villages, the articles include a little more of the "war" background than the other websites do. (and of course since it's wikipedia you can find further sources on there.)
all that remains: the palestinian villages occupied and depopulated by israel in 1948 is a famous book by palestinian historian walid khalidi which gives a detailed account of what became of 400 different depopulated palestinian villages. it was released in 1992, so it's not current, but many of the things he wrote still hold. a lot of the above links use this book as a source.
#palestine#wanted to include villagesofpalestine.com but the website isn't working for me#if anyone knows of any others please feel free to reply/reblog with them :)
