this started a long long time ago when I made a joke about how sega should put ringo in more dresses, and then my friend reminded me that oh yeah!! I can do that instead!!! and then one thing led to another and we joked about punk ringo and I drew that too. using ringo like a dressup doll is so cathartic it's kinda crazy

some bonuses (original designs, timelapse) under the cut bc I like these designs!! I might do some more with them!! please disregard the band poster in the first second of the timelapse that's something else!!!

(this is partly cyrano au stuff, partly general character ramblings)

OK SO JING WEN.

In canon we don’t really know too much about his motives towards Ling Wen other than he wants to wear her down and destroy her reputation, and this stems from her showing him up in an essay contest. From the revision, we can also add plagiarism to his sins – he knows Ling Wen is more talented than him and despises her for it, especially because she’s a woman. (Although I think her lack of scholarly background also heavily plays into it. She isn't a woman from a family of scholarly officials. She's a shoeseller who writes letters on the side to make ends meet.)

For the Cyrano (but not really Cyrano) AU, I’ve added a layer of lust and entitlement towards his feelings for Ling Wen. He was the one who discovered her! He rescued her from a life in prison and made her a junior heavenly official! People remember her name and her story because of him! He’s her hero!

And he thinks that it’s about time she acts like it! Ling Wen wants to keep her head down and avoid him as much as possible. Do whatever job he wants from her and hope it keeps him in a good enough mood to leave her alone. Except Jing Wen wants to reduce her to the girl who was saved by him and devotes herself to him in return. It drives him crazy that she does not, and would even dare to get close to other men (PM & SWD) when she treats him (him!) with barely concealed contempt. He discovered her! She was no one before him and he is the only one who can have her! (and her talents!)

This is meant to contrast this AU’s Shi Wudu who also discovers her hidden talent when he exposes Jing Wen's plagiarism (mostly by accident) and immediately falls for her brain and wants to see what she can do with it when she isn’t tied down by Jing Wen and his ego. He finds her interesting, a match for himself (one of two people he’ll acknowledge as such), and rather than save her, he wants to give her the tools she needs to save herself because it’s much more fun for him that way. (This is also the real reason Bai Jing is not in this AU, because he treats Ling Wen with genuine kindness and doesn’t have any kind of pedestal or expectations in return and I think given everything she has been through at that point, that genuineness would be more attractive to Ling Wen over someone who wants to make a girlboss out of her. If there’s no BJ to compare against, I think LW would be a little more receptive to SWD’s feelings.) (Although both are interesting to think about.) (Also on a sidenote, even in AUs where he isn’t explicitly in love with her like this one, my SWD always ends up a bit of a dogged nice guy towards LW, ready to do anything she asks. This is partly because she helped him with the fate swap, and partly because he REALLY values her friendship. There’s a bit of a second-love aspect to their relationship from Ling Wen’s side because she knows SWD feelings towards her but it’s not the same love that BJ made her feel.)

And also because I just like talking about him, Jing Wen’s possessiveness and refusal to be shown up by a woman also kinda contrasts Pei Ming a bit, since he’s also a traditionalist and believes the guy should save the girl (and would be pushing SWD in that direction in his pseudo-cyrano role), but he’s also capable of acknowledging that if that doesn’t win her love, it doesn’t win her love (not that that’s ever been an issue for him personally) – and if a woman shows you up, the solution is to Do Better and show off properly to her later (this is him with the Rain Master. Anytime she gets the better of him, he sulks for a bit and then sets out to show her how cool he actually is. He wants her acknowledgment!)

#random tgcf thoughts #tgcf #the cyrano (but not really cyrano) au #one of these days i'll write the ling wen backstory frankencanon of my dreans haha #which this au is a bit of an offshoot off #idk i just find the whole xuli backstory incredibly fascinating #and especially just interesting a character jing wen is #considering he only appears in one scene in the original tgcf #and doesn't physically appear at all in the revision (his presence is there in the flashback but he never gets any actual scenes)#that one scene just reveals so much about him; lw; pm; and xuli #(and that's on top of what rong guang also reveals about xuli)#xuli ends up having a very rich history where jing wen is from a distant past where the kingdom was likely prospering #and he holds on to those glory days of it #then ling wen was born in an era where corruption was much more rampant and her essay's victory reflects that #things were likely even worse in pei ming's time (although xuli was waging and winning a lot of wars with him in command)#and this culminated in an actual military coup that pei ming stopped with his own hands #(whatever rong guang's actual motives for the coup was (whether he believed pm would be a better king or wanted to seize power himself)#i think there was already plenty of dissatisfaction among both the military and the populace for the current state of affairs #that he could justify his cause)#(but also there's a comment about how pm thought the current king wasn't that bad so it could also be that pm's xuli was improving a bit #compared to ling wen's xuli)#but then of course after pm's era we get bai jing's era and everyone agrees that the kingdom is a wretched hive of scum and villainy #and on the verge of collapse...#(sorry to ramble but there is a reason the three tumors and all characters related to them are my favorites xD)

#keese draws #oxygen not included #olivia broussard #jackie stern #also to be clear everything I have for the rabbit and raccoon universes is completely pulled out of my ass lol #I just wanted to play around with the idea of every universe in oni having the same results despite wild differences #in canon they’re both probably near identical outside of what critters olivia works with #but I find it fun imagining those moments in the logs as the moments that come closest to converging #three olivias who are all wildly different but despite it all still end up in a lab feeding their favorite critters in near perfect sync #three separate jackies with varying amounts of respect for olivia each deciding to rid of olivia’s critters #three separate pairs each holding near identical conversations through text that even then could have varried wildly in tone if heard #two women who have a strained relationship two women who don’t realize how bad things are between them and two women who are on the offense #anyways rabbit universe is my favorite of the other two to think abt because god it’s so fun imagining jackie slowly realize that olivia #may have slowly but surely become like super dangerous to both herself and others and that it was initially to support her but now it’s #gotten Way out of hand and jackie doesn’t know how to try to bring it up because she has things that she deems more important to do #and anytime she does try to push her away from the work she’s been doing to focus on other things she at best does it in secret #the problem with people who consider themselves righteous is that they can become incredibly dangerous if they aren’t #now jackie sort of considers herself righteous but I don’t think that’s her primary motivation in scientific advancement #she is far more motivated by the thrill of progress and as such operates less on is what I’m doing right and more how do I most effectively #get this done and as such she’s incredibly strict and shitty to people and is more than willing to cut corners that she rly shouldn’t #the thrill of progress also appeals to olivia deeply but she generally sees herself as a moral person #which even in canon leads to olivia coming off as kind of hypocritical as anything that doesn’t make her actively uncomfortable doesn’t rly #seem to register to her as a problem #her morals are kind of dictated by her personal comforts and as such an olivia who is comfortable with doing questionable experiments is an #olivia who doesn’t see them as questionable at all #now I do imagine rabbit universe olivia is generally nicer to employees than jackie is #but mostly in the sense that she gives them proper breaks and lets them do fun activities and such #she is still mostly invested in optimization she just knows that rested employees are productive employees unlike jackie #like if someone has a breakdown over the work they’re forced to do she’ll send them home early but she will expect them to get back to it #so she’s not actually like. that good to the ppl working under her. she’s just not as bad as jackie

been rolling around the idea for a few months of a fusion mechanic for interstitial that isnt amalgam-based (pure self-indulgence for when me and my friends do a campaign) which is not... too entirely far off from what about pacrim would be interesting to me as interstitial-based mechanics (read: the drift)

Ummm the fnaf movie was great and I for one am so so happy they made it it’s own thing separate from the lore.

Because like,,, guys,,, Scott pulled the entirety of the fnaf games’ story out of his ass. Like we know this to be true. So don’t pretend the story is good or that it was a thing that needed to be kept the exact same in film form because that just isn’t true and it would have been messy and bad and clunky. If I wanted to have that story told to me all over again for two hours I would watch a YouTube video on it.

These new versions of the characters and story are intriguing because they are new! It’s different and allows us to experience the mystery of what’s going to happen next all over again and I think that’s a really good decision on the part of those behind the movie.

It’s not perfect but it’s clear this movie was made with love and had some serious effort put into it! It was fun and pretty well done and I hope the future installments keep it up!

there's this one route in the rock climbing gym that i did get further on today but i still haven't made it to the top but it has captivated me and now i'm a bit scared they'll take it down before the next time i go

#they were putting up new routes today in one part of the gym and the center piece thing is all new routes so it's likely it'll be next #😣😣#it's a tricky one but sooo nice #i like have to stretch myself between three holds and then reach for the next one up with my free hands and kind cling onto it #while i place my feet and then i have to lean my hip back against the volume so my hands are free to reach for the next hold #but that's where i got stuck because both my feet are on one hold and i'm leaning against the next one and i didn't trust my balance to hold #if i tried pushing myself away from the volume and put on of my feet up on it #which is all not interesting to read abt at all and probably doesn't make much sense so you couldve skipped reading that #the point is anyway it's a route that requires balance and flexibility and i rllly like testing myself in those areas so 🥰#i hope it'll still be there on friday or saturday #emma talks

#i had the most baffling run-in at the pharmacy earlier today and in the moment it was just vexing but thinking back now i'm just speechless #basically took my mom to the doctor and she got a couple drug prescriptions ~ about 10 and i had to get to the pharmacy before it closes #and there were two people stood in front of it just talking among each other while i read the pharmacy's corona rules and they didn't talk #to me so i assumed they were just hanging out and walked past them and tried to enter the pharmacy BUT the lady instantly went eXcUsE mE wE #WeRe hErE FiRsT gO bAcK tO ThE eNd Of tHe LiNe #the line being those two stood across from each other gossiping #anyway w/e i'm not a local i was on a medication/ disability aids run across two villages and three towns and maybe i just misunderstood #their corona rules and people have to wait outside or whatever so i apologised and waited there with them and once the pharmacy cleared out #we all went in there together #wanna know what she went in there for? cosmetic moisturiser. self-tanning. and the pharmacy didn't have the brand she likes so she left #without buying anything #meanwhile i was waiting about 20 minutes behind her in line holding those ten prescriptions clearly visible in my hands #with my mom fresh out of rehab and hooked up to an oxygen tank waiting in the car #self-tanning moisturiser. at the pharmacy. making a scene coz i dared to walk past her into the building. the vanity. the egotism.

I got to hold a 500,000 year old hand axe at the museum today.

It's right-handed

There are grooves for the thumb and knuckle to grip that fit my hand perfectly

I have calluses there from holding my stylus and pencils and the gardening tools.

There are sharper and blunter parts of the edge, for different types of cutting, as well as a point for piercing.

I know exactly how to use this to butcher a carcass.

A homo erectus made it

Some ancestor of mine, three species ago, made a tool that fits my hand perfectly, and that I still know how to use.

Who were you

A man? A woman? Did you even use those words?

Did you craft alone or were you with friends? Did you sing while you worked?

Did you find this stone yourself, or did you trade for it? Was it a gift?

Did you make it for yourself, or someone else, or does the distinction of personal property not really apply here?

Who were you?

What would you think today, seeing your descendant hold your tool and sob because it fits her hands as well?

What about your other descendant, the docent and caretaker of your tool, holding her hands under it the way you hold your hands under your baby's head when a stranger holds them.

Is it bizarre to you, that your most utilitarian object is now revered as holy?

Or has it always been divine?

Or is the divine in how I am watching videos on how to knap stone made by your other descendants, learning by example the way you did?

Tomorrow morning I am going to the local riverbed in search of the appropriate stones, and I will follow your example.

The first blood spilled on it will almost certainly be my own, as I learn the textures and rhythm of how it's done.

Did you have cuss words back then? Gods to blaspheme when the rock slips and you almost take your thumbnail off instead? Or did you just scream?

#i think i just need to be taking my adderall every day maybe?#my biggest issue rn is just that i’m bored with everything so i have no motivation to do anything #like damn i just dont care !! anything could happen rn and id be like yeah thats about right. okay.#like i’m literally trying to think of anything i even care to do rn #theres a lot i want to do in the way that you want to do all the stuff you write in a schedule but dont get to all of it #because things end up being unimportant or not enough time #but literally everything feels like that #all the stuff in that category that i still Want to do feels like a huge effort with zero reward… my brain does not make the chemicals #i barely even got runners high even when i would push myself really hard #i still remember even when i was doing track at school i was the best sprinter so they would put me right at the end #and the only reason that was fun was because of the adrenaline i think?#like theres three levels !!! that i know of #you can work. so like running normally. you can push yourself. like running fast as you can.#and then!! you can push past yourself!!#thats all i care about thats the only place i can reliably go back to to feel happy #when you put yourself in the kind of situation where you are able to do that #so for me when i was 10 that was #holding the correct position for the baton handoff and controlling my breath while i wait for second last to get to me #trying to keep note of where my teammates were so i had a good idea of how far behind from first place we were #feeling tension rise in my body with every runner whizzing past me while i was still stuck in place waiting #closing my hand around the baton and pushing myself forward in the same instant #its fucking agonizing those first few seconds getting up to full speed because you know you could be going faster #and then pushing and pushing forward as hard as you can #you get to a point where you unlock that superhuman feeling via adrenaline #and run faster than you really should be able to #other runners become a background thought even when overtaking them and nabbing their team’s placement for yourself #i cant describe it the same way that i can describe coke or oxy but it feels like you’ve broken past some kind of barrier #all i ever want in those moments is more and longer #blow past the finish line by 20 metres because that’s how long it takes to slow down. most satisfying feeling in the world. & then its gone #z

#batfam #this is stupid writing XD #a person cannot be one of those three things the whole idea is that we are all of us all three and also Freud is mostly bullshit #so if a character is able to apply those archetypes to the people around them then that implies on some level that they know they are not #people but characters. which is distracting and breaks suspension of disbelief. maybe that's the point of doctor fate?#I don't know anything about him #like don't get me wrong it's pretty solid literary analysis but you're not supposed to put that in the literature itself lol #don't hand-hold me I can get there myself. you can even have another character mention these concepts so it's on the reader's brains #but like there's a reason that Jean Valjean doesn't turn to the camera at some point and explain that he represents the light of #human kindness and that Javert represents the ACAB failings of a corrupt legal system. there's a reason he doesn't do that.#anyway it's not like this post is sharing an example of something harmful or morally wrong!#I just think it's funny to have a character openly state what partial metaphor each of the other characters are #original #young justice #teen titans #the outlaws #when the writer doesn't trust his audience so he needs to explain every metaphor he's doing #edit: i have been informed this is red tornado. he is still not invited to my pool party. which will happen as soon as i have a pool...
