god there is actually so much lore but its so funny bc almost none of it directly impacts the main 4 players in the present day (up until a point) outside of them kinda just existing because of everything that went down. So, to kind of give a starting point and a large simplification of history, Groda was the descendant of monarchs that ruled a vast kingdom (which is more comparable to a massive expanse of land) that existed a handful of thousands of years ago. These people, known as the ancients, had the elites of society that were well versed in magic, remainders of which we see through enchanting tables and recovered books to this day. Those who practiced magic with a high set of skill would eventually develop black eyes through their connections with the arts, while those who aren't well versed tend to end up with pupilless eyes and the black forming as scaring on the face instead. Exact dates aren't really important so you can really just put it as far back as you want. What IS important though is that she would eventually end up inheriting the kingdom. And she was a TERRIBLE leader. Groda thought of her role as a leader as more of a title to brag about than a position to take seriously, and because of that she pretty much put herself above anyone else in EVERY regard. Those who would question her authority or rebel against the throne were pretty much always killed with no exception if caught. It was essentially considered blasphemy to refer to her in any negative light. Revolts started en mass due to her tyranny, though it'd eventually be the case that she'd rather live on a throne built upon corpses than die fighting for it. Thus, she turned to the beast in the painting to do her dirty work for her, as she moved all her few dedicated followers underground alongside her to avoid the resulting destruction. And destruction it was. Survivors fled in different directions to even have a chance at outlasting the decay. Some went underground much like Groda herself did, some groups rumored to have even found ways to a previously undiscovered dimension... Others found themselves in an already documented dimension known as the Nether, ironically enough housing the same materials that were made to create the beast. Portals were made to be fled through just as quickly as they were destroyed. They did survive for a time, but ultimately seemed to succumb to the harsh environment. Humanity on the overworld was all but eradicated after a while, and countless wildlife species went extinct alongside it, Sniffer being a notable example. Even those that did survive had a hurting population, over time even evolving the intersex traits we see within them in the modern time to upkeep populations. No one knows what happened to the beast when its destruction had withered away enough of the land to be satisfied. Its fate is uncertain.

Time would pass underground, and Groda's remaining group of the ancients, while making do at first and even creating a new city, would slowly come to dwindle in population due to a myriad of factors. Humans were not made to live their entire lives underground. Knowing that her reign would be short lived unless she acted quickly, she began to turn to her studies in magic to seek answers. Shutting herself away from the rest of the underground world, she sought the answers to eternal life. Her experiments only caused more pain for those around her. Reanimating the dead was one of the many unintended side affects of her practices, and only lead to locking herself away further as people died even faster. It was much like a disease, spreading to corpses in any stage of decay. Interestingly, the living dead that were slain near a type of glowing moss found in the caves that they started to inhabit would have their bodies quickly consumed by the spreading plant. This would be inspiration for one of her later, more obedient projects.

She did eventually find the answers she sought, but at what cost? The only kingdom left to rule was rotted flesh and bones in barren caves and a desolate surface. But even then, she could never admit that to herself. No, she won. She got to live in place of everyone who died, everyone who defied her, and she won. She still roams even now, thousands upon thousands of years later, telling herself the same lie. Looking for something, or someone new to put her judgement upon. --- In the present day, Herobrine has found himself shut away from society by his own choice to try and figure out the mystery of what happened to the ancient civilization he's found remnants from. Little bits and pieces of a bigger picture. Old abandoned mineshafts, mysterious structures, and books and artwork with pages and pictures torn out imply something sinister happened, and he wants to know what. Through his isolation with the rest of the world, he's started to lose a bit of his own sense of humanity. He's started writing his journals in Galactic, the same language the ancients used that he's studied, because he's forgotten the common writing for most words. His life has mostly been sustained from eating rotten flesh and drinking cave water, none of which is healthy for him, of course. He replaces the unraveling clothes he wears every now and then in exchange for the only slightly less tattered clothing off the backs of slain zombies. Despite his dwindling health, and likely dwindling sanity, he believes he's close to a breakthrough. Approaching a long forgotten city, he finds the walls decorated with old murals. They depict a woman with red hair and white robes, seemingly a person of high status. Drawn almost as if she was some sort of saint. Some of the other murals are scribbled out. Maybe he'll find out why inside. His expedition is cut short by the sound of distant noises, something that could only be compared to shrieks, and a soon to follow rumble from the depths of the city. That can't be good.

Letting out a frustrated sound, he crouched down on the dirt ground and squeezed his body through the crack, scratching the yellow paint on his body in the process, not that he minds.

With a few more wiggling, he finally got himself out and through the other side. He huffed, blowing the dust that is floating around away as he stands up, exploring the new area he just got access to.

It’s…the exact same as the other room. Blank, gray walls, looking old and in a similar state with the door. He asks Annabeth explicitly if she loved him romantically (and she denies because Percy is there).

When it comes to immortal romance, I usually go for coded age. Anubis is thousands of years old but is mentally and physically 16, which is fine and dandy except for the fact that Sadie is 12. What do you want me to say except Rick is disgusting for promoting this.

When you have a philosophy that every character must end up in a relationship, you run out of sensical options to pair up. Now, I'm a Caleo hater mainly because of how it retconned PJO and also because they are very toxic.

Now hold on, doesn't Caleo fall into coded age? Calypso is 15/16 and Leo is 15, so it's A okay! I suppose, if it wasn't for Calypso's past loves.

Odysseus, he had a wife and a son who was 20 years old in his final year on Ogygia, he is well into adult age. She also mentions the privateer Francis Drake and his wife Elizabeth, he was 45 when he married her.

If your defence is that she's actually thousands of years old, then that must also apply to Caleo. You cannot have it both ways.

Hazel and Frank

It's not that bad but it's necessary to mention for the point I will be making.

The timeline is messed up but I think they're 13 and 16 and meet at 12-15. I mean, come on.

What do these have in common? Well in 3/4 or 4/4, the younger one is female. In 2/4 or 3/4, the younger one is a person of colour.

Remember Nico? His crush on Percy as revealed in HoH? Well in MoA, there's a cheeky little red herring that happens a bit before Annabeth's talk with Venus (where it is revealed that Luke liked Annnabeth back). She wonders if Nico had a crush on her, but denounces him as too young. Now, Nico's age is inconsistent, I am unsure of his gap with Annabeth but I do know his gap with Percy. It's 3 years 5 months in PJO and 2 years 5 months in HoO (the series we are currently in).

So in RR's messed up mind, a white boy having a relationship with someone 2 to less than 4 years his senior is inappropriate. But a black tween girl dating someone 3 years her senior is just fine, a 12 year old biracial black girl dating a 16 year old is daijoubu, a 15 year old mestizo Latino boy dating an elderly woman is relationship goals, or the reverse a 15 year old girl dating middle aged men is a tragic romance and a 12 year old girl having mutual feelings with a 19 year old man is a "love story for the ages"!

The tv adaptation is so infuriating for this, they made Annabeth black, a lot of the changes they made came off as micro aggressions but especially her relationship with Luke. It's reduced to Luke simping for Annabeth behind her back and it's even worse because you can visibly see how large their age gap is. Heck, Charlie Bushnell and Leah Jeffries have a smaller age gap than book Luke and Annabeth.

Adultification is a huge real life issue. Children of colour and especially female children of colour are seen as less innocent than their white counterparts. Rick, who is dedicated to inclusivity should've known better than to include these illegal relationships. Stans will try and make excuses but it's there, deal with it.

As a black teenage girl who has been a fan of Rick's work for 12 years, I am disappointed.

OK, so, uh.. I should probably give you some context about that. ^^;

I've seen posts about Alastor's sexuality too. I don't know if we've seen the same posts, but I've definitely seen posts about it reblogged by my sister, who is also ace, and here's what I gathered from it, and I say all of this as someone who has.. complicated feelings about Hazbin Hotel.

There is a problem. But not in the way you think. It's not so much the ships that's the problem. It's how people are using them and writing them. Especially people who are not aspec. 😑💢

Those people often use the fact that aromanticism and asexuality are spectrums as an excuse to put an aroace character in allo/allo situations, without looking into aromanticism and asexuality that much or at all, or they even make stuff up about aspecs.

How an aroace would approach the sex thing is pretty different to how an allo would approach the sex thing. People who aren't ace or aro or both don't think about how Alastor, an aroace, would approach the sex thing or going on dates.

They don't think about his reactions to the sex thing or dating, about how he doesn't give a damn (literally) about romance or the sex thing. He might kiss or be kissed but not feel any sexual attraction towards the person. He might be on a date with someone but he won't feel any romance sparks. He may even be repulsed or weirded out by other people doing the sex thing, or confused by the strict, unspoken rules of dating. He might be touched when someone gives him a romantic gift, but he may see it as that, a gift. He's flamboyant so he could show off his flamboyance and not feel any romantic and/or sexual attraction to anybody at all, even if he might find them conventionally or aesthetically attractive. He'd definitely know that attraction doesn't equal action.

Allos and non-aspecs don't think about any of that and they still put him in allo/allo situations anyways. This is what aspecs mean when they say his sexuality keeps getting erased, especially when we got an aroace who happens to be flamboyant. Allos and non-aspecs do this to any character who is aspec, and it sucks.

If people want to still ship Alastor with characters like Lucifer, that's fine. They just need to have him do or say what an aroace would do when they're on a date or doing the sex (something that allos and non-aspecs keep forgetting...) and not copy-paste allo thoughts or sayings into him.

Astral Prism, Orpheus & Raphael Theory

So you know how most people in Baldur's Gate 3 fandom make the Raphael joke?

I'm here to tell you that it's extremely hurtful, because his character has a lot more depth than some of you are willing to see.

Behold, my Baldur's Gate 3 theory:

Right before we enter Act 3, we are jumped by githyanki who want to retrieve our Astral Prism. We are summoned to the Dream Visitor - The Emperor, to help him in the fight.

We find out then that our supposed ally is an illithid but there is one more guy, The Gith, the Orpheus, The Prince of the Comet.

You can ask the Emperor what the heck is a githyanki doing there and he will tell you the brief story about the War of The Comet*.

He is going to mention, that he is bound by INFERNAL chains. Hold on? How come?

After we are done with the Royal Guard, we can go to the upper left side from Orpheus's prison and find an ancient Githyanki disc. It will tell us, that Vlaakith had some infernal business conducted with a devil with wry charm. Of course Raphael isn't the only devil capable of being charming, but it feels natural for it to be him when he is already a very important character in game.

Baldur's Gate 3 Wiki says that it is indeed Vlaakith and Raphael.

OK, but why would they exchange the Astral Prism and is it Vlaakith getting it or Raphael receiving the relic?

He is giving it to Vlaakith. But how would he be in possession of such an artifact?

My theory: He is the one who had it created for that trade. (Commissioned from someone else)

Explanation:

If you look at Hope's and Orpheus's prison, you will notice a striking resemblance at the crystals that can be only shattered by the Orphic Hammer. A Hammer, that Raphael is in possession of! How convenient!

(Even Hope's and Orpheus' eyes are glowing in the same way when they are enslaved.**)

The runes and the design of both Astral Prism and Orpheus' shackles are also strikingly similar. It does not look like anything of Githyanki creation, it screams infernal.

But that still doesn't really add up, does it? Who would possibly create such a powerful object which plays such a major role in the plot?

Here, we have to familiarise ourselves with the wonderful post by Bearhugsandshrugs

Em explains above who the people visiting House of Hope are***.

One of them is a crazy, extremely knowledgeable wizard who specialises in creating copies of himself which prevents him from dying in battle.

When we kill Raphael, we kill him in HoH, in his own domain. He should be gone, for good! But yet, upon interacting with the Orb of Infernal Envisioning, we see that he is soon to be devoured by his father. Hells do not split into separate planes - so either Mephisto snatched his soul somehow (which seems impossible because his body is still there and devil's souls are their bodies) or Raphael respawned and his father took one of his clones or something like that. (He's just so cool I had to put it in here, but let me return to my theory now)

Another name on the list points out to Raphael's interest in different planes (even the ones which don't seem to be reachable) but also, magical puzzle boxes capable of holding items inside. As you can see, the name on the list is under the uninvited visitors section, which most likely means that they either fuel his soul pillars or have been turned into a soul coin. So it didn't have to be that particular person helping Raphael with the creation of the Astral Prism, but it points out to his interest in that topic.

Now, when would that even happen?

Karsus Folly took place in -339 DR, BG3 takes place in 1492 DR, around 2000 years later.

The enslavement of Orpheus - so also the Vlaakith trade - happened at around -4000 DR.

It is not impossible that Raphael was already around and scheming at that time. Why? Because Mephistopheles gifted Haarlep to Raphael most likely when Raphael was about to get the Crown before his father snatched it. Comparing their visual age, it seems that Raphael was already a young adult cambion at around the War of The Comet age.

Another thing is the fact that, Kith'rak Voss, the badass Githyanki Red Dragon rider, the sword of Vlaakith, found out about Raphael and contacted him and told us to get our ass inside Sharess Caress. Raphael doesn't mention him having an 'office' there, it's Voss who does it. Only upon entering the place, we can interact with Korrilla who's like, hey girl go upstairs Raphael rented a room hoping you'd drop by. HE KNOWS WE SPOKE TO VOSS, he has to! And also, Voss was around when Orpheus got enslaved! According to Wiki he was inside the Astral Plane when that happened. And Raphael has absolutely 0 interest in trading with Voss, yet the githyanki managed to reach him somehow. In my opinion, when he finally realised the lies of Vlaakith, he was looking for a specific devil, for Raphael, because he might remember him from back then.

(* Justice to my poor Githyanki, the most based and cool race in BG3. Imagine how painful it has to be to realize over centuries of time that you helped the self-proclaimed queen establish her tyranny over your own people because you've been brainwashed to believe that Orpheus is a traitor and Vlaakith the rightful heir of the throne)

(** The eyes, the chains, the crystals. The top of the Orphic Hammer is literally partially built from that same gem/crystal and on top of that, if you use Examine on it, it clearly states that it has been built in Infernal forges.)

(*** headcanon warning: The Amulet of Vigor that is present in the Archive is actually proven to have some... Other invigorating capabilities ☠️☠️☠️ and the old, ancient, crazy wizard has the boudoir privileges. Coincidence? ☠️☠️)

Anyways, to sum up:

• Githyanki disc shows us a deal between Vlaakith and Raphael where the devil gives her the Astral Prism.

• Raphael orders creation of the Orphic Hammer (the name itself, come on, it's such a mockery just like House of Hope) to make sure that he has the means to free him if it will benefit him in any way.

• In exchange for the Hammer, he receives some kind of knowledge of ascension to godhood. (Lae'Zel tells us during the game that ascension is the githyanki's greatest honour but it turns out it is nothing else but ensuring that Vlaakith remains alive and a god, because she just consumes the life force of her greatest warriors)

• Hope's and Orpheus's chains are strikingly similar and the part of the Orphic Hammer is built from the same gem/crystal that seems to be enslaving both of them.

So yea, my humble request is that you start fully appreciating the incredible writing of the game, instead of just focusing on the shallow 'haha bottom' jokes. I could make another post about that itself, but it's pointless. I hope you enjoyed!
