New Puella Magi OC alert! Florence Barkley was just 13 years old when she made her contract with Kyubey. Her wish was to bring her older brother, Harold, home from the Great War. Little did she know, her brother was killed in action from mustard gas. Her wish, however, did bring him back home alive, but different. He came home permanently disfigured as a result from the gas. His skin was blistered and swollen beyond recognition, an eerie grey-ish green color, oozing puss all over. Viewed as otherworldly and a monster, he was kept away hidden in secret and rejected by his family, although Florence still loved and cared for him. She visited him often bringing him freshly made iced tea with honey she just harvested from her family's bee hives. Although, life isn't as sweet as honey as a magical girl. She must fight witches, after all. Her weapon is a bee smoker, but instead of the typical calming smoke, it is now mustard gas itself. She has to dawn a gas mask and work alone to be able to use her weapon. Fighting is lonely for Florence, she yearns to make friends with others in her situation, but she mustn't due to endangering others. She's alone, her brother is alone, and there isn't anything either of them can do.

i finish an episode and think about its remarkable storytelling and themes and characters and then i open the reddit thread from 9 years ago to see the original discussion (because i enjoy cringing and sighing for no good reason, apparently) and it’s all like “this was so hammy” “made no sense scientifically” “how the fuck do you destroy alien warriors with eels” “i hated when clara said [completely reasonable sentence] she’s so annoying i hope she dies” “vikings don’t have horns on their helmets” you’re watching a spectacular FANTASY show this is FANTASY it’s not supposed to be “historically” or “scientifically” accurate literally EVER because that’s not the POINT you unimaginative blockheads

it’s about stories it’s about the power of stories to save people it’s about love and devotion to your friends and principles. what it’s not about is whether reversing the polarity actually means anything. they make fun of that in the episode. christ

a reminder that fantasy Emma has her own special timeline and lore:

-before she was born, canon Emma went to the past and Rumplestiltskin chose to change the future, going AU from canon, and this universe was born

-around the age of 17 when she was supposed to give birth to Henry in the real world (and therefore give birth to the Author, the Truest Believer, someone BIG, not to mention her first true love) she got 'sick' and it became a chronic thing. She blames her broken heart because coincidentally it was after falling into depression because of her shitty ex

-the fairies know what may happen (her remembering Henry, lots of bad omens for an unfulfilled savior) and to save the world AND Emma give her teas that will keep wiping canon memories. Emma still thinks they are for the Pains

-some of her instincts come straight from her canon backstory but just like for the Pains she comes up with reasonable explanations for them

-the older she gets the more she gets sick whenever something hits her subconscious: baby boys, nightmares, thinking of the future too hard. She re-forgets nightmares but whenever something is harder to be automatically removed from her mind, she gets sick and need teas. If anybody finds out about things related to this and tells her, she'll forget immediately

-she's 30 when we write. She can hear the Dark One's dagger noise because she was/will be one

-at 32 when she's supposed to canonically be the Dark One, the spell on her memories will break, her magic will come back, princess Emma will stop existing as such, she'll have memories from ALL her lives including the ones canon Emma was given as a curse, she'll go very dark and start plotting revenge

-eventually she'll find a way to bring Henry back but may or may not become Dark One before that (will need to get rid of that curse before her happy ending). She's never taking the throne back but she will eventually retire with Henry and whoever is a part of her family
