Rezef Hill x Cayena’s lady-in-waiting reader 😼
OOO~ 😉 HES SO XJHXHXHDHD (IM NOT DOWN BAD ISTG)
𝐖𝐀𝐑𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆𝐒: obsessive rezef, betrayal, no happy for u🙏, badly written, manipulation
𝐑𝐄𝐙𝐄𝐅 𝐇𝐈𝐋𝐋 𝐗 𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐃𝐄𝐑
𝐑𝐄𝐙𝐄𝐅’𝐒 golden blond hair, almost identical to his sister's, contrasted against his penetrating blue eyes, their dark depths holding a captivating allure. His hair was short and wavy, with several thin strands rebelliously sticking out, giving him a boyish charm that only added to his appeal.
His angelic allure was undeniable. His striking features, coupled with an innate awareness of his own attractiveness, made him a magnet for noble ladies, who found themselves drawn to his handsome visage. Rezef was conscious of this effect he had on them, and he exploited it to his advantage, skillfully manipulating those who fell for his appearance.
Rezef's upbringing was marked by a profound deprivation of love and affection, leading him down a path of moral degradation. Though he possessed an angelic exterior and a striking handsome face, his heart harbored a dark and twisted soul.
Contrasting with his charming appearance, Rezef's cruel disposition knew no bounds. He was a man consumed by possessiveness and an insatiable thirst for power, a result of his father's relentless warnings that everything he held dear could be snatched away in an instant if he didn't possess authority and control. As a result, he grew into an irritable and vindictive individual, quick to anger when someone attempted.
Then, his gaze fell upon a lady in waiting who served his dear sister, not the woman herself, but the position she held. This lady was the sole daughter of a high-ranking noble, the heir to her family's fortune and reputation.
A sinister idea formed in his twisted mind, and a sly smile played on his lips. He could make her his toy, a puppet for his own entertainment, to be played with at his whim. After all, who could deny the prince's desires?
Thus, his grand performance began. Whenever he caught a glimpse of her, he assumed the role of the charming prince, concerned with the welfare of his subjects. His excuse for showering her with gowns was that he desired the happiness of his people. He would conveniently appear whenever she faced adversity, playing the part of her prince charming.
However, despite his charming demeanor, his true nature remained masked to others. He found himself unable to win her heart, for she saw through his cunning facade and recognized the manipulative individual that lurked beneath.
In their game of pretense, she continued to praise him, viewing him as a charming and good-hearted prince. Perhaps she felt a sense of pity for him, knowing the abuse he suffered in his upbringing. But despite this pity, she did not love him.
For how could such a vile monster ever stir any affection within her heart? He had shattered innocent lives and harmed those who mattered dearly to her, leaving a trail of destruction in his wake.
Months had elapsed since their initial encounter, and the former lady-in-waiting had progressed into the privileged position of being Prince Rezef’s treasured beloved. Lavished with golden jewelry and an array of gowns in every shade, she basked in the adoration and praises of the people, all because she had the ability to tame him.
Prince Rezef himself had started to seek out her warm touch, finding solace in her eyes that glimmered even in the dark, and her voice that brought a soothing melody to his ears. However, it was not love that drove him to her. In his twisted perception, she was like a doll, a possession that he had no intention of discarding.
She was the only person who looked at him with a gentleness he had rarely experienced; a doll he cherished and treasured, despite his own inability to love her.
Little did Prince Rezef know of the dark secret his beloved harbored within her heart. She had made a secret deal with his own sister, swearing that she would manipulate and control him, transforming him into her puppet.
Once this plan was successfully executed, she would ascend to the throne of the emperor, while she would be rewarded with a prominent and comfortable position, one where she could live in secrecy with her actual lover.
❛ such an deal I cannot refuse, I, [name] the sole heir of the [xxxxxx] family, accept you, Cayena Hill, as our future emperor ❜
❛ Lady [name], I thank you for the support, and as promised, you and Lord [xxx] shall be granded the positions of Duke and Duchess ❜
She artfully deceived him, making him believe that he was her first love, her first in everything. She convinced him that she regarded him as an angel and pledged her unwavering loyalty by his side, promising to aid him in becoming an emperor, and earn the adoration and support of the entire empire.
And yet the day never came
❛ Lady [name] or now Duchess [name] and her highness, Cayena hill were the only ones that held his heart, and the only ones who broke it, working together to take what is rightfully Princess’es Cayena’s. And will forever be rememberd as the Marionettes of broken strings❜ she read out loud, her voice a humming melody as the words danced off her tongue, all while rezef who promised to study with her simply raised an eyebrow
❛ how strange, they share many similar traits as you and sister, the only difference is that you would never betray me like that ❜
❛ no.. I suppose ..I would not... ❜

The Strained Relationship between Olga Paley and Grand Duke Dmitri Pavlovich

While it seems that Princess Paley's relationship with her stepdaughter Grand Duchess Marie Pavlovna was very cordial and even friendly, the same could not be said of her stepson, Grand Duke Dmitri Pavlovich. Here are a few excerpts from "The Flight of the Romanovs" by John Curtis Perry.

Dmitri had grown up to be a handsome, indeed dashing, young man but a Romanov Hamlet, tormented by many things simultaneously: his childhood as a virtual orphan, with his mother dead and his father banned from Russia; the terrible death of his guardian Grand Duke Sergei; his sister, closer to him than any other person, taken to Sweden in the duty of a royal marriage; and his ironic intimacy with the emperor and empress who had made him almost a member of their family but actually had deprived him in childhood of a father and in adolescence a sister. Dmitri remained always an outsider. (...)
The emperor had pardoned Dmitri’s father, Paul, his last surviving uncle, and permitted him to return to Russia when the war had broken out. Paul’s second wife, Olga, had shrewdly asked Rasputin to intercede on her husband’s behalf. She had been eager to drop her German title for a Russian one, and Paul secured permission from the emperor for his wife to be promoted from Countess Hohenfelsen to Princess Paley, taking the name of a Cossack chief to whom she was related.

There was no love lost between Dmitri and his stepmother. Olga, Princess Paley, had her own son by Paul, Vladimir, upon whom she doted. The fact that her own morganatic marriage meant that Vladimir could never be a grand duke like Dmitri irritated her tremendously. Dmitri, on his part, wrote to the emperor saying that he saw the “honorable family of Countess Hohenfelsen” as little as possible, thus making life in St. Petersburg, he said, much more peaceful.
Dmitri could only pity his father, so dominated by his aggressive second wife. In October 1916, Princess Paley was outraged to find that Grand Duke Paul had been choosing wines from their cellar and taking them to army headquarters, where he was then stationed. “I would somehow understand if you treated the Sovereign to it,” the princess complained, “but to waste it on Dmitri or Grand Duke George Mikhailovich was totally unnecessary.”
Princess Paley believed that Dmitri was scheming not only against her son but also against his own father. She wrote to her husband, “I have been telling you in every letter; ‘don’t trust Dmitri,’ and I myself was deceived by his damned tricks! I have rarely hated people, as I hate him right now!”

Of course, nothing of this comes across Princess Paley's Memoires, in which she gives the following description of Dmitri:
"During our stay at Mohileff the Grand Duke Dimitri, who was on duty with the Emperor, often came to lunch and. dine with us. Very well informed about war matters and what was in progress at the headquarters of the General Staff, endowed with remarkable intelligence and with the faculty of grasping facts and drawing from them the necessary conclusion, this young man of twenty-five was a mature man and a shrewd observer. He also recognised the imminent danger which the country was running, and he had conversations on the subject more than once with the Emperor . and with his own father. I remember that one day at Mohileff, at tea time, he said to me:
"Ah, mamotchka (a tender diminutive of mama), if only you knew what is going to happen!"
It was in vain that I pressed him to continue. he would say no more."

Hello dear author.
I was recently looking through the lore information available on your tumblr when I came across this post. I thought it was very interesting stuff. So, I have a sort of follow up question to this though: if it's not too spoilery, and you don't mind sharing with us, do you think you could provide a list of all the Emperor Konstantin's children (including future ones), in birth order, followed by which mother is theirs?
I am very curious about it and so far have only been able to hazard a guess about the first three:
Aksinya / Claudia Lukyan / Tereza Tzesar / Tereza
Regardless, thank you for your time, and have a great day.
Hello! Thank you for your ask,
It's not too spoilery, it's left vague in the book becuase outside the three eldest, it's not very plot relevant, and I didn't want to confuse people.
Here is the complete list (eldest to youngest):
Aksinya is the firstborn and Claudia’s daughter.
Lukyan is 8 months younger than Aksinya, and is Tereza’s son.
Tzesar is 3 years younger than Luk, and is also Tereza’s son.
Valerian is one year younger than Tzesar, and is Claudia’s son.
Khistya is one year younger than Valerian and is Vanessa’s first child.
Lena is one year younger than her sister, and is also Vanessa’s child.
Before they were married, the emperor’s fourth wife, Alyse, had a miscarriage.
Leila is six years younger and is the daughter of Alyse.
Nikolay is one year younger than Leila and is Vanessa’s son.
Endri is two years younger than Nikolay and is Alyse’s daughter.
Cylla is two years younger than Endri and is Alyse’s daughter.
The last four haven't been born as of chapter 3, and will likely never appear in the story.
Summary version: Tereza has two sons, Claudia has one daughter and one son, Vanessa has two daughters and one son, and Alyse has three daughters.

Coming of age talks
Because of all the coming of age talk, I remember something I wrote for @eloise175 about a conversation between the Imperial family about their coming of ages. Based on her version of the Imperial family’s composition. I just decided to expound on this.
As Judith’s coming of age drew closer, or rather, as the year turned and she had reached the midpoint of her seventeenth year, the preparation began in earnest. This was a day that her parents had been planning on since her birth. On her father’s part, it was one filled with dread and grudging acceptance that she was no longer the baby he carried around every where.
For her mother, it was a reminder that the years had turned and was another milestone for her to mark the passing of years and her eldest child’s life. A life that her parents had sworn would be nothing like what they had lived through. It was much in the same way her parents had begun to plan for all of the milestones of each of their children practically since birth. A golden and flowery life mapped out for them, filled with nothing but love and laughter.
During one particular dinner, the topic turned to their parents own respective coming of age celebrations. There was a long pause from their Mama and Servant. The two shared a look with one another.
Servant coughed. “Well, I didn’t have the traditional coming of age ceremony. We were at war and I came of age on the battlefield, and to celebrate it, I burned an entire capital city to the ground after they refused to yield. And then my men plied me with lots of alcohol and tried to send some camp followers my way.” He said, reminiscing the past.
“Oh really? You never told me that last part.” Mama said with a bite in her tone.
“Well, nothing happened. I made it clear that I’d cut up any woman that tried to follow me to my tent.”
There was a silence throughout the dining room table as the children looked at their father in disbelief and with quite a lot of dubiousness, still unwilling to believe their father’s old reputation. “And what about you, Mama?” Rigel asked innocently.
“I heard it was so beautiful.” Judith said in a whisper.
“I heard it was memorable for an incident.” Kayden replied.
“Oh, what incident?” Dante, ever the troublemaker asked.
Eden looked on in curiosity. “Was it something bad?”
Their mother bit her lip. “Well, it was a lovely ceremony. I wore a dress your father gifted to me, but we had quarrelled before that and were on a break so I really didn’t want him to attend the ceremony, he still came, of course. But I tried to hurry him along so that I wouldn’t have to talk to him. And the incident was due to the demon Laila that crashed the event.”
“Oh…” The children all said.
Their father snorted. “On a break?”
And then he continued on. “You left out a lot of details, love. Like how you rejected my marriage proposal, which was, now that I think back on it, utterly ridiculous and I couldn’t fault you for it. Broke up with me. And… the grand prize of it all, you got poisoned and nearly died in my arms, and was in a state of life or death for days on end.”
The children all turned to their mother in horror as if to reassure themselves that she was really here and alive. That their beloved Mama was alright after such an ordeal.
Their Mama glared at Servant. “Well, I wasn’t going to tell them that!”
And then she turned to them with a smile. “Don’t worry, sweethearts.” Mama said. “Nothing like that will happen on your birthdays.”
“Yes, you’ll all have celebrations that would be talked about for years.” Servant said.
-
-
On Crown Princess Judith’s birthday, the celebration was exceptionally exquisite. There could be no fault found in anything. And it was clear that the Imperial family had not scrimped on any aspect of the celebration.
The former Duke cried on as he toasted his eldest granddaughter’s entry into adulthood with wistful cheer, only occasionally ranting about the wretched Emperor who had tricked his beloved daughter into marriage. The Emperor took it all in stride, turning it all back to remind them that the Empress had happily chosen him and had been the reason why a wedding needed to be planned in haste.
At the end of the celebration, a marvellous cake was brought out, layers upon layers towering over everyone. Just as the Crown Princess was about to cut a small piece of it. Her twin siblings who had been elbowing one another had accidentally pushed each other too hard and Dante careened forward into the base of the cake, toppling it over and nearly killing people as they all scrambled away from the giant mass of sweet confection.
The Imperial couple could only look on with a sigh that turned into a small giggle.
-
-
On Prince Kayden’s coming of age, a winter storm came out of nowhere and had trapped everyone within the palace. Fortunately, they were able to accommodate everyone within its halls, with great difficulty. The Emperor had decided to ply everyone with alcohol to ensure they would have a good time.
If a few people snuck off somewhere only to be hastily married a few weeks later and a few children were born nine months after the Prince’s coming of age, well… wasn’t that all a coincidence?
-
-
During the twins’ birthday, Prince Dante and Princess Eden had, with their first bit of alcohol secretly given to them earlier in the day by their Uncle Reynold, decided to challenge one another to a drinking contest. Normal people would have died by the quantities they’d imbibed in but they were dragon blooded, it was no more than a buzz for them.
If they were a bit chatty, then there was nothing wrong with that. If they were a wee bit too friendly, that was fine too. And then came the toasts and more alcohol in their cups. The hotheaded twins had then gotten it into their mind to challenge each other with displays of magic and had, as a result, nearly burned down the palace with a bout of pyromania.
The Empress wasn’t amused, the Emperor was merely angry that he hadn’t been the one to give the twins their first sip of alcohol as he’d done for Judith and Kadyen. Lord Reynold Eckhart, was subsequently banned from the Imperial palace for two months, and was sent away by his brother and father to some remote property to repent and reflect on his actions.
He came back exactly two months later with a baby that no one could account for (not even him because he’d been drunk), and a donkey. (The baby was subsequently returned to it’s birth parents and he was sent to another place to reflect and repent once more, the donkey came with him).
-
-
Penelope had been truly dedicated in the idea that nothing, absolutely nothing, would go wrong for her baby boy’s birthday. All of her older children had mishaps on their coming of age ceremonies, but she swore that Rigel wouldn’t have any such thing happen. This was her last chance at throwing a flawless celebration.
And it would have been perfect, had not the Prince in question been a mage with a particular affinity to animals. And as though to celebrate with them, the animals all came in, storming the celebration hall at his call and had cuddled him, nuzzling into his side.
The Empress could only smile serenely as the onlookers looked on in disbelief. Yes, of course, she gave up. This was something that would happen. It almost seemed as though their family was cursed.
“Cheer up, Love.” Callisto told her. “At least people will remember and talk about it for years to come. Well, talk about all of their celebrations, not just this one.”

Grand Duchess Marie Alexandrovna on meeting the Hohenfelsens
(safe to say she was not impressed 🤣)

Paris, 16 June 1908
The young Swedish couple" has arrived in our hotel. Little Marie is a very sedate and calm little person, but she poured her heart out to Baby: she feels it terribly meeting here her step-mother and suffers greatly under it. As to poor little Dmitry, he is in perfect despair. He hates the whole thing and loathed the idea of seeing his new Geschwister [siblings]. He comes to me to talk about it.
Of course Uncle Paul and wife manquent de tact [are tactless] in every way: for instance, last Tuesday he arranged a big luncheon with quantities of his French acquaintances and asked us too. It was the first time poor Dmitry went to his house here and Uncle Paul presented him to all the guests as "mon fils aine" [my eldest son]. The boy simply se tordait de désespoir [curled up in despair], we observed it all and in the middle of this unknown company appeared these second children and all the affected French people went into loud ectasies about them [at this time, Vladimir was 11, Irina 4 and Natalie 2], whilst poor Dmitry was pale with concentrated rage and moral suffering.
Marie told Baby that she never would have come here, had she known, how it would be. And people are wonderfully taktlos. They all praise her to the skies when they talk to me, cette charmante Comtesse Hohenfelsen, "elle est adorable, cette femme". Vous trouvez [that charming Countess Hohenfelsen. She's adorable, don't you think?]. I answer, oh! Bien pour moi, c'est très pénible [for me it's all very painful] and I tell them a few truths. Then they at once turn the conversation, as French people hate when they are found at fault et ne désirent pas du tout en savoir d'avantage. [and don't want to be wrong in any way].
As to Uncle Paul, I cannot support at all him here; his whole attitude and tone I find detestable, I don't show it, à quoi bon and I am simply polite with his wife, like with any lady in society I don't care for. I simply writhe when I see in his house portraits of my mother, what a desecration! And he pointed them out to me! I thought one moment I would like to insult him before all his idiotic French guests.
"Dear Mama" - Diana Mandache

This is what I love about digging into original sources. When we read Grand Duchess Maria Pavlovna's memoires, the idea we get is that she always had a pleasent relationship with her stepmother, but here (at least according to Maria Alexandrovna, who clearly still held a deep resentment towards her brother and his second wife) it seems things were not so smooth.
It's also interesting (and sad) to notice how she doesn't really consider Grand Duke Paul's children from his second marriage worthy of any note and is even annoyed that the French fawn over them and that Grand Duke Paul introduces Dmitri as his "eldest son", which seems to imply she doesn't consider Vladimir to be his son at all.
It kind of shows what the rest of the family thought about Grand Duke Paul's second family: so irrelevant that it was as if they didn't exist.

does the ruling consort have a crown? and if so would they be coronated along with their spouse?
The ruling consort does have a crown. It looks something like this:

The queens also have crowns, but theirs tend to be a bit smaller and resembles the ones princesses wear. Actually, MC will get her own tiara as well as the prospective consort of the crown prince.
As for being coronated, if the emperor is already married when he succeeds to the throne, then they will be crowned at the same time, but if the emperor is crowned before he's married then the consort is crowned seperately.
This isn't a major spoiler, but It's alluded to at the end of chapter 3 that Emperor Konstantin was a teenager when he took the throne, so he and Tereza were crowned separately.
