Here’s my opinion on song three, Odysseus, of Epic the Musical.

There are multiple references to earlier songs whether it be instruments used or language. The strumming on the guitar or harp are references to the first song of the series, and it flat out says Troy. It also uses some of Zeus and Poseidons key instruments, Zeus’s keys for thunderbringer and poseidons constant drumming.

The suitors voices are absolutely awesome because they show the pure terror of Odys might. The fact that they’ve been in the palace for twenty years and think that they know it better than it’s own ruler is preposterous. It shows just how much guidance and how much more intelligent Ody is than the suitors.

The serpents head line is awesome because it references the battle with Scylla discreetly, atleast that’s what I believe it’s portraying. The suitor who says that particular line has the rough voice of someone as evil as Poseidon, and it’s awesome that the voice of antagonism in the story seems more rough and boyish than the usual more female voice of evil.

The suitor who sounds ironically like Poseidon also has the lines about peace, which are also really interesting because it’s almost as if the table has flipped and they are begging the person who wanted peace in the past for their own lives. Also, this suitor has the same background noise as Survive I think, when they are running around. The drumming sounds very similar to it. This can be referencing how Ody says

“600 lives at stake, it’s just one life to take, and when we kill him our journeys over.”

Kind of cool because all the suitors have to do is kill an impossible foe, quite like Ody and his crew had to in the past.

ALSO HOW THIS SUITOR REPEATS ONE OF POLITES KEY LINES,

‘let’s have open arms instead’

and

‘Greet the world with open arms’?

AWESOME. The fact that Ody must have felt a moment of either pure rage or sadness would be awesome. And the fact that he instantly killed the guy really cements this iconic moment.

The background music of Legendary playing and then Telsmachus showing up. Awesome. Then Athena’s main chords showing up as the suitors try to make a move on Telemachus could be seen as almost a protective move, like she was either worried or right there with the prince, trying to make him safe again in his own home. She showed up even as she knew Ody was in the same vicinity of her. Also; this means that she actually ISNT just rotting on Olympus, and she is going to help the royal family.

I believe there is also some subtle references to the song Mutiny left in here, Telemachus asking to be freed. And the men counting on the suitor to kill him, kind of like how Odys crew rooted on Eurylochus. It’s an awesome tie to the song where it all starts to really go to hell.

Ody kind of turns into a Mini-Poseidon. I think this could be something interesting because he’s only in this state of darkness because the suitors decided to threaten Telemachus with crippling injuries, just like how Ody did to the Cyclops. He feels a fatherly rage I think, and the line where he says his mercy is gone is a discreet tie in to Get In The Water, where Ody tries to convince Poseidon to chill, but Poseidon goes basically berserk.

The background music in the final moments along with the tiny, almost mute screams of the suitors tie into the Underworld Saga the most. The tune is also sounding like one of the moment from the cyclops saga in survive. It might mean how the men failed, unlike Ody, to beat the ‘insurmountable foe’. they had the numbers but still couldn’t go up against one man.

another instagram story you viewed, another text with those three cursed words you read and another ‘congratulations, lets celebrate it!’ you had to write as a reply for that text. you sighed, placed your phone on your lap and hid your face with your hands.

the only thing that comes to your mind right now is the word failure. you failed and now you have to watch other people celebrate their accomplishments.

seokmin heard your sigh and turned around to look at you, taking sight of your disappointed figure. he stopped cooking, dropping the knife and washing his hands before sitting down next to you on the couch. his hand rested on your thigh, a way to try to comfort you without words being said. he already had an idea about why were you like that. “another one?”

you hummed and stopped hiding your face. you looked at him with a small smile and nodded. “another one,” you looked down and took his hand before looking back at him, trying to sound and look okay. “another friend of mine was accepted at the university she wanted.”

seokmin let out a quiet sigh and rubbed his thumb against the back of your hand. he didnt say anything, already knowing you’d keep venting about it to him. “im happy for her, i really am. but i cant help but ask myself: is this it? am i going to stay behind while all my friends will go to college and live their lives? am i too dumb to go to college?” your lips began to tremble and your voice was cracking, “and i hate myself for feeling this way, i hate to compare my life to theirs and not being able to be happy for them without feeling miserable about my situation. they studied a lot for this and they deserve it, but i studied as well. is it something wrong with me?”

seokmin frowned and placed your head against his chest. “theres nothing wrong with you,” he began to caress your head, trying to soothe you. “you said yourself that this year took a toll on you because of studies, trying to be sure about your future and trying to find an university that youd like the thought of studying there. do your things in your own pace. you not being accepted in any university until now doesnt mean youre a failure, you cant be accepted in any university yet because you gotta wait your results of the national exam come out.”

he cupped your cheeks and pulled you away from his chest so you could look at each others eyes. “listen to me, you are not a failure, okay? you just graduated from high school, youre so young and you have so much things to do. take your own time, that doesnt mean youre staying behind. that means you’re building your own path.”

you nodded as he brushed your tears away with his thumb. listening to his words was like being hugged by your mother after spending a whole day away from her when you were a little kid, was like being kissed by the wind while watching the sunset at the beach with a loved one.

seokmin always knew how to comfort you, how to make you realize youre not being fair with yourself and that you should be way kinder with yourself because you are loved and are capable of doing anything.

“dont forget about that,” he kissed your forehead and stood up, looking at you with love in his eyes and that comfy smile that no one else but him could smile like that. “now help me to cook. we’re going to eat a delicious meal and then spend the rest of the day watching your favorite sitcom”

I think the reason beckory works well is that tony has a habit of getting self righteous and in his own head about things but Gregory isnt afraid to tell him off or call him out about things. the point of tony in ggy is that nobody ever told him that how hes treating other people isnt good, so that's why he got so bad. but tony would be close to Gregory and have every rational reason in the world to listen to Gregory so when he would say something like "you're treating ellis badly and that's not what a good friend does, you need to do better" hed actually listen and take it into account and improve himself

it is beyond infuriating how anne rice seems to insist on marius being a positive force in anyone's life ever. like she can't fully commit to exploring the fact he groomed armand and has repeatedly taken away his consent for what marius thinks is best (take the end of TVA as an example) and just kind of flatly puts it in the narrative. there's not really much interest in how these horrific events make marius come across as the worst because EVERYONE loves him. for gods sake, lestat learns from armand exactly what marius did to him in TVL and then proceeds to go find marius and be super friendly to him in the same fucking book. even armand and pandora, two of the people who have MORE than enough right to hate him, do not. it doesnt feel like shes trying to explore the toxicity of the abusive dynamic he traps them in, it just is there. and like yeah ofc the toxic vampire romance series but i think that this should be handled with more care. and it is not ever really framed in a way that she is interested in exploring how marius should easily be one of the most horrific characters in this series because it kind of feels like sa/rape/grooming/other things of that sort are just put there to further plot and not to really get the respect that they deserve in a medium.

i love madoka magica however i dont think we as a fandom talk enough about how tragic madoka herself is. probably because the narrative itself steers you away from thinking about her personally. shes not a character shes a desire that homura has, shes a force of good, shes homura's foil. but those are all madoka's narrative roles but madoka herself as a person is not really looked at because we are viewing this world from an unreliable narrator(homura) who only sees madoka as those things. The best thing homura could have done for madoka was give up on her, to let her go. because every time we go back in time the image of madoka is distorted, she loses more of herself every regression of homura's as she tries harder and harder to save her. We don't even know what madoka originally wished for to become a magical girl in the original timeline. and she actually acts quite differently than the madoka we meet. shes a lot more honest and caring and bold. by the time homura's has reached the actual anime madoka has been reduced by the sands of time to a figment of herself. she has no wants or desires of her own beyond wanting to do good and help her friends and when all her humanity is stripped away is when she finally acends to godhood because thats all thats left of her. an ideal and a faith in her. madoka kaname died a long time ago and all that is left is her ghost.

what do you think mulder thinks of diana fowley after biogenesis through amor fati? i don't think we really see anything on screen/in text (though i think it says a lot that he didn't have much of a reaction when scully came to his apartment & instead focuses on scully & their relationship lol)

yeah there’s basically NOTHING in the text but tbh i think finding out for certain that she was working with CSM really kindaaaa snapped him out of some things…mulder doesn’t give a fuck what people do to him, obviously, but it’s a different thing entirely to find out that your ex is involved in something like that. like there are MILES from “my partner makes me feel like shit and is maybe pretty abusive” and “my partner is like 3rd on the call list of a eugenics group that treats women like test subjects”

like, scully was right, diana was monitoring MUFON women and collecting data on them. she was heading up the tests on cassandra. she probably knew the truth about samantha the whole time. just nasty nasty shit.

she’s the villain in the amor fati dream: the dismissive symbol of abandonment that offers another path.

one of the most interesting scenes of diana’s character to me, is in the sixth extinction, when she comes to see mulder in the hospital. and she knows what the effects of the artifact are, that he can hear what she’s thinking. that, therefore, he knows who she works for and what she’s doing. (imagine your ex-husband/wannabe boyfriend/obsession finds out you’re lying to him because he can read your mind….shit is crazy!)

and she tells him that she knows he knows. but that he also knows that she loves him.

and she does love him. there’s no reason to lie about that then, she knows he would be able to tell.

scully knows it without hearing it, that’s how she gets diana to save mulder’s life, ultimately. she comes to her and begs. tells her to please just think of him, who he is, who he was when she met him, who he is now. in the end, because of scully weaponizing how diana feels, diana can’t go through with it. she gives her life to help him.

diana seems to be one of those influences on mulder that’s only really all that significant when she’s close by. it’s like how all the tension in the beginning builds up to him getting in her car when she tells him to, leaving scully, when diana is there instructing him.

i think being able to know who she truly was and her true intentions and allegiances, prior to her death, really goes a long way in the way he responds to losing her.

don’t get me wrong, i think he’s upset. you can kind of see the shock cross his face when scully tells him. but he stays focused on his goal, which is to express to scully how important she is to him, in the wake of how discarded diana always made her feel.

mulder loved diana and grieves that she was killed, he doesn’t have it in him not to, but mostly he…wanted something from her, right? he wanted that approval and “affection” and to please her. he wanted her to believe him. the first thing that she says to disarm him (in the end) when she can tell he’s uneasy, is, “hey. i’m on your side.”

learning who she really is, it’s easier not to crave her approval so badly.

(this is the crux of amor fati’s “last temptation.” it’s diana saying: you’re childish. you are going to fail. your path is not your own. “you have to let go, fox.” and it’s scully countering: we need you. this is who you are.)

(it’s why he responds in the end by telling scully that it’s her that’s the voice of truth.)

and then in death, diana’s not…there for him to want anything from!! so it’s like, again, yeah he obviously feels the loss, this was someone who meant a lot to him for over a decade. but also it’s likeeeeee freeing in a way? it makes things simpler in a way? (he’s able to communicate all of that to scully instantly after hearing diana is gone, after over a year of the tension hanging around it)

if you asked him about diana now, or even a year later, i think he’d be like…damn that’s crazy! 😭😭 mulder doesn’t have an awful lot of object permanence you guys sjdjsjfj

when scully comes to tell mulder that diana was killed, and he says to her, “you were my friend, and you told me the truth,” the language matters so much. that’s what scully called diana, “i know she was your friend,” and he turns it back onto her. you were my friend. you told me the truth.

in my opinion, it’s not that he doesn’t love and grieve diana, but that there’s a freedom in knowing the truth. knowing who someone is, and their intentions. knowing who has your best interest at heart. knowing where you stand in the world, what you want to do.

that’s really what allows for the openness and lightness of s7, in the wake of diana’s absence. mulder’s always seeking, always learning.

Back at it again with another tierlist, this time im ranking how close Rosalyn is to different characters, subject to change. For context at this point in the game Rosalyn has just admitted Katherine to her school.

The "secret third thing tier -you know how it's kind of a joke among wlw that they have one high school friendship with homosexual tensions that irrevocably changes them? Well Rosalyn had two of them. (Three if you count Annie but I didnt put her on the tierlist)

Best Friends - Rosalyn has these girls on speed dial. There's a reason I put the three of them together in that Heather's AU drawing. They are inseparable in the school halls and at parties

Good Friends - not much to say about them, but Rosalyn holds a huge amount of respect and care for them.

Friends - they are on good terms and are willing to help each other out when asked.

Acquainted - on good terms but probably not the first person to call when bored.

Disliked - A lot of the characters on here are obvious but : she doesn't like Asher not only for what happened with Hope but for the fact that he constantly disrespects her while on the council and has the nerve to try and hit on her. She doesnt like Ace's mom because she's kinda sorta complicit in how his dad mistreats him. She'll be polite to her face because Ace still seems to hold a lot of respect and care for her post betrayal arc, but that's as far as it goes. Kara and Max are obvious. Rosalyn finds Natalie annoying and could give less of a fuck that her mom is the mayor. Rosalyn can acknowledge that Zero isn't an inherently bad guy but the fact that he let his teammates say disgusting shit about her and her teammates for so long leaves a bad taste in her mouth. Prof Edwin being in this tier is so sad because you'd think as a fellow black woman she'd be more supportive of Rosalyn's endeavors instead of finding reasons to tear her down. Lena is obvious

Despised: Rosalyn is constantly on edge when it comes to Lacey, almost as much as Mia because of how fixated she is on hurting Katherine. Rosalyn obviously dislikes Asher but after seeing Mr.Rollins in action it's no wonder his son is an entitled piece of shit. She almost feels bad for Asher. Almost. Rosalyn finds Jack to be a massive creep and never wants to be anywhere alone with him. (like i said earlier. Mutual Enemies is an interesting quest, but it sucks Rosalyn had to team up with men she dislikes/hates for something she couldn't even go through with in the end.) Ok so I did spoil myself for a future story arc where Razor is involved, but because of him getting Rosalyn and her friends expelled he's forever on her shit list lol. The last one is obvious that she hates Ace's dad. Like with his mom, she'll be polite to his face but sometimes she indulges Ace in talking shit about him
