I'm overtrained and when I am I like to do HIIT sessions... which is already a batshit sentence. I did my little mile warm up then got to sprinting, 6 rounds at 12.1mph and 4 rounds at 14mph. Which is the fastest this treadmill can go. You can hear the treadmill slowing down at the beginning right when I jumped off to record.
My heart isn't even maxed out. It stays a little fast for a bit but at 40 seconds it sounds like someone hit the off switch on my heart.
And this is after swimming 1k.
If you played this for someone with no context they'd think they were listening to a person recover from a moderate jog. I was sprinting so fast that, including the warm up, I hit a 5k total distance. And my heart is just so damn unbothered.
What the hell is this beast inside my chest?! Even my jaw is on the floor. A human heart cannot take this much and mine isn't even impressed. If I could get my damn body to keep up...

Day 3 of 5 day workout week:
It’s Hump Day and I woke up feeling rested today! A little too rested. I slept 20 minutes past my alarm! 🤦🏽‍♀️ Not the way I wanted to start today, but I must’ve really needed the rest. I got in 7.5 hours of sleep and it felt pretty damn good! Hopefully, I can make that a habit while still getting up on time.
I definitely noticed the difference in my morning energy level. Tonight I’m supposed to remove all electronics from the bedroom for the sleep challenge. Due to an ongoing health issue with my son in college, I have to keep my phone nearby. But, the other electronics are out.
-For today’s workout, I wanted to change the structure of my program again! I like mixing it up! Sometimes its duration. Sometimes it’s intensity. Other times it’s sequencing or load. Today, I switched up from a HIIT circuit back to separate workouts of functional strength training and a straight cardio HIIT. The strength portion was total body and used dumbbells (8-15 lbs) for upper and lower body and ankle weights (6lbs) for more targeted glute work on the mat. The cardio segment was a 30 minute HIIT. I got creative and added 3 minute bursts on my elliptical after every other interval! Fun but tough!
Total calorie burn = 416 kcal
Bonus: I ended my session with my 30 pushups (3 sets of 10)! Day 2 👉🏽🎁

Our latest publication in Psychology of Sport and Exercise is with Dr Ségolène Guérin of Université du Littoral Côte d'Opale (France), Layan Fessler of Grenoble Alps University (France), Luke Howard of Xyla Health & Wellbeing (UK), Calum Pinto Brunel University London, Tobi Ojuri Brunel University London, Joy Kuan Brunel University London and Kristian Samwell-Nash Brunel University London.
‘One-HIIT Wonder’ uses a HIIT protocol to explore the efficacy of music in the context of supramaximal exercise and ensuing periods of active recovery. The findings show that across a range of psychological, psychophysical and psychophysiological outcomes, scientifically-selected music is largely ineffectual in a HIIT protocol.
It is the case, however, that the presence of music throughout the protocol (i.e., supramaximal exercise bouts and periods of active recovery) elevates state motivation when compared to a no-music control.
If you would like to find out more, the article is available on a gold open-access basis: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.psychsport.2024.102717.

I had a day off so I pummeled the living hell out of my heart. First up I went for a punishing bike ride, maxing out repeatedly. It felt incredible. It felt like my heart is supposed to beat like this all the time, like its natural state is high output. I really really tried to push myself here, I swear I could feel the walls of my heart clapping together.
I also went on a run before this but I cut it short cause the audio was meh; also not very fast:
