also I just think it's really unintentionally cruel to look at armand's life and go, see this piece, which is the only piece where you felt safe and happy and loved even if bad shit was also going on? actually it was rotten to the core and there is no part of your life that was ever safe. and the anger and terror you feel about the entire rest of your life must also be applied here because there was nothing salvageable about this time. which could in fact be a very in character thing for daniel to do lmfao but that's not how I ever really see it presented

I'm convinced that everyone surprised by Armand's actions at the trial was watching his character as an extension of Louis, because I can still sympathize??? Lestat tore everything down, and Louis couldn't even give him back the simple security of accepting a place in the coven. he was scared. he almost got him fucking kicked out. I would choose the coven too! of course I would grieve my fucking dead boyfriend, but he wouldnt even call himself my boyfriend. it's a shitty, messy breakup. if you remove Louis from his story and think of him like a background character, armand is still the Exact Same. a manipulator out of perceived necessity, who covers up lies with more lies (which are explained so well with the 'it was a forgery!!' because he really is just flounderng and making it up as he goes) until they finally snowball out of his control, and a scared child clinging to structure, willing to sacrifice his happiness for some solid notion of safety, with rules and labels. he didn't even have to carry the responsibility of calling the shots anymore, if we assume that Santiago really did become the coven leader. and they still let him direct, gave him exactly what Louis did- a leash long enough that he could feel like he was in control when he needed it, and they didn't fuck around with it either. nothing about "I could not prevent it" made sense unless you were just not. paying attention

random intersection of thoughts on account of the fact i finally watched iwtv recently and subsequently the vampire armand appeared in my dreams and though this is by no means a 1:1 can i play in this space with you guys for a moment: i think if armand could bear witness to cas’ perfected craft of the 🥺 he would be sooo sick . armand after seeing cas win the divorce every time:

armand after watching cas form plans with the enemy while lying to dean about it and invisibly watching him turbo blast dean’s brother with the agonies tell dean to kneel and declare love for him as his new god and have dean yelling where’s the angel and refusing to leave actual purgatory without him two seasons later and fully believing he’s hallucinating visions of cas out of guilt grief and rewriting his OWN memory by himself because the reality that cas stayed behind is more painful then the illusion that he failed him - because he 🥺ed about it:

I love it too, especially because Assad has just theee most beautiful hands. Like they all have great hands, but Assad has such long, elegant fingers and there's something about the way that he acts with his hands that really brings Armand to life for me? Like there's a gentleness there but also a clear intent in the way that he gestures / wields his fingers and hands?

It's clearer in this gifset, but like, the way he goes from chin touch, to the softest cheek caress, to framing Sam/Lestat's jaw and jerking his head sideways to drink from him is just like...such great acting choices. That sort of tenderness and desire, but also real display of power and control that Armand (when not in feral traumatised sopping wet cat mode, lmao) really encapsulates. It works for meee.
