I often begin this column by noting the wide variety of manga and light novels we’re covering that week, and while I always mean it, this week particularly takes the cake. We’ve got isekai and crossdressing manhwa (got it…); an artbook and a coloring book (wow, cool!); and a Magic: The Gathering-focused romance set in the 90s and a series that combines Madoka Magica with sci-fi (WOH). Welp, I'm bored, and my mind is running, so I'll just be going on one of my OC rambles for once. If you want to stick around, you can.

Anywho, let's get into the OC rambles! But not just my usual OC rambles (I'll probably talk about my Big 3 series later on.), but rambles about characters that I haven't thought about in a very long time.

To be honest, I can't remember all of my OCs, because 1. I have way too many to keep track of, and 2. Some of them are from series that I've long since deleted. The ones I'll get into are from a series that I developed a few years ago (about 2018-2019), ramble about the basics of their character, their relation/effect on my current work, and maybe how I'd revise them if I rewrote their stories.

Crystal Monsters

Vague title, I know, but it's an old work. Originally created back in early 2019, this was about two high school students, Kenya and Kairi, and their attempts to retrieve the rogue Crystal Monsters that Kairi accidentally released out into their hometown of Windbrook. It was a bit of a mix of Pokémon, Digimon, and (if you know it) the Magi Nation series, with the Crystal Tamers being able to summon captured Monsters in order to help them fight other monsters and, later on, the Crystal Hunters.

I actually wanted to ramble about both of the main characters, since I have a lot on my mind for both of them, as well as three of the secondary characters.

Looking back, Kenya Yuudachi was the first of many similar protagonists, being a reserved, black-haired young man with one or two close friends that meets a mysterious person and gets pulled into an adventure that helps pull them out of their comfort zone. (Harley Quinn from "Heart Thief Harlequin" also plays into this archetype, and to some extent, so does Vesper Queen from their titular series.) He was mainly left on his own due to his parents being away for work, so he had to take care of himself, which also meant dealing with his bullies with very little help aside from his friends, Mizuki and Hiroki. Although Kairi is the main instigator of the story, I liked focusing on Kenya's viewpoint due to how he changes Kairi's. While Kairi uses force in order to seal away the escaped Crystal Monsters, he talks them down and tries to get to the root of why they're doing what they do, even if it puts him into sticky situations. Even though his arc is about earning self-confidence and learning to stand up for himself, he doesn't stray away from his kind and pacifistic nature.

If I had to change him in the future, I'd definitely emphasize his own struggles a bit more, since with the story concept that I had, it focused more on the "Monster-of-the-week" shtick. Also, I'd try to get into why Kenya has his "Crystal Sense", where he gets a chill up his spine when a previously uncaptured Crystal Monster is nearby, as well as why this makes him more resistant to the Crystal Monsters' abilities. (Admittedly, I wrote "Crystal Monsters" without any real plan outside of bare-bones chapter notes and a list of 50+ monsters.)

As for Kairi Amemori, Kenya's foil and the deuteragonist/secondary protagonist of the story, she's contributed to quite a few characters, even if they don't play the same role as she does. One of them would be Raito Himura from "Kaiju Kid" due to their willingness to fight and short temper, as well as Chèvre Fontaine from "Hero Syndrome" due to their cocky/snarky nature, though she more directly influenced characters like Elena Ryder from "Heart Thief Harlequin" as the extroverted supporting character. So far, though, she's been the only character to 1. Wear roller skates (They're a big part of her outfit.), and 2. Prominently carry a weapon (Her katana). As stated, she's the main instigator of the events in "Crystal Monsters" due to accidentally releasing all of the Crystal Monsters onto Windbrook. She tends to take the physical route when it comes to dealing with Crystal Monsters. However, this proves to be detrimental in certain cases, and Kenya tends to step in to use his methods. She's pretty much the polar opposite of Kenya in personality, being a bit snarky and nonchalant, but also all for fighting if the situation calls for it.

Honestly, if I were to rewrite her, I'd try to expand on her character a bit more, since even though she appears a lot, she actually doesn't have too much of a visible character arc, and I'd want to make her a bit more relatable. I'd also touch on why she doesn't have the same "Crystal Sense" that Kenya does despite having dealt with Crystal Monsters much more than he has.

Moving onto the secondary characters, I think Mizuki Inoue, one of Kenya's friends, has been my greatest original inspiration for Cordelia Sterling's character from the "Inquisitive Minds" series, a.k.a. DLN. Not only do they both have long, black hair and rather petitie builds (not to mention similar voices, since I voice Cordelia with my "Mizuki" voice, which is a higher version of my own voice), but they're also the hearts of their respective stories and have a great effect on those closest to them, being Kenya and Remington respectively. Put simply, Mizuki is one of Kenya's childhood friends, and is one of the people that helps him get through the day with his sanity. She initially doesn't know about his exploits, and whenever she did find out, she had her mind wiped by one of Kairi's Crystal Monsters, but she eventually becomes a part of their team near the end of the story. She was honestly the sweetheart of the story, being supportive of the main characters regardless of what was going on.

Frankly, even though I love her as the resident sweetheart, I think that I'd give her a bit more background in a rewrite. I want to show a bit more of her potential and more of her emotional range outside of her being happy and upset. (In other words, I want to give this girl some rightful rage.)

Unfortunately, Hiroki Yamada, Kenya's other friend, wasn't really developed much outside of being the extroverted athletic friend with a bit of an accent, but I still liked the potential that he held. I think he mainly contributed to Elena's character from "Heart Thief Harlequin", but also Lazarus Vega from the "Vesper Queen" series. He's generally the easygoing friend, but isn't going down without a fight when confronted. He also doesn't know about Kenya's escapades, also having his mind wiped whenever he found out, but near the end of the story, Mizuki asks for his help in order to save Kenya and Kairi when they get abducted, becoming an unofficial Crystal Tamer alongside her.

Frankly, in a rewrite, I'd write more about him. He's honestly kind of a flat character despite the scrapes he's put in, and I really want his character to shine through more.

The last person I'm rambling about is actually not a Crystal Tamer, but a Crystal Monster that helps Kairi and Kenya on occasions. As a human, he goes under the alias Gin Kaikyu, but his actual name as a Crystal Monster is Gigao. Frankly, his greatest contribution has been to Raito Himura's character, since they're both blonde-haired characters whose eyes turn red when they transform, not to mention have similar powers. Gin doesn't turn into a kaiju like Raito does, but as his true name suggests, he has the ability to enlarge things, which includes objects, other people, and himself. Hence, "Giga". He plays into the archetype of the bad boy with a heart of gold, though the "bad boy" aspect is less about his actual personality and more about his general appearance and resting bitch face scaring other people. (If you know him, Ban Kenji from Heartcatch Precure is a big part of Gin's inspiration.) I made his character so he'd be a Crystal Monster in disguise, showing that they can blend in alongside other humans due to their human-like appearance.

To be honest, I like how his character is currently, being a supporting character for Kenya's development as well as being his own character, but if I had to change anything, I'd have a bit more of a buildup to his reveal, as well as more hints that he's a Crystal Monster beforehand. I still want to keep the thread where he goes to school alongside the others like a normal person, while also helping Kairi and Kenya when they get into trouble.

It's funny how many people are your fake friends. They only just watching your personal stuff and didn't give a shit about "your" funny side.

I tried the NGL stuff too where you can ask anonymously. I got a few and boosted it a little bit by myself.

It was the same. They were reading the first few but after that the numbers slowly decreased.

One of my "friends" was very suspicious to me. I don't know why, I just didn't feel good about her. And my intuitions was right.

It turned out that she submitted the information about me to others.

Our mutual friend only watched my story when she watched it and if it was personal. If it was a meme or something else, she didn't cared about it or just told her it's bullshit again, I think.

They even posted a pic about a bday party, three of them plus one other person. I was angry at the moment when I saw it. I mean yeah it's your bday, you invite whoever you want, but replacing me...really?

But anyway, I posted on that day four pics after I saw this, just in case as a little revenge, so I can show them that I had fun on that day too with others, with my real friends. And as it is, everyone saw it from that group. So basically they talked about me behind my back, again.

But there was even more of this shit.

Long story short, one of them or somebody else from the same elementary school class they send to me literally an university degree geek. And I mean by that, his D only can get hard when he's hearing about someone else from our old class. So he can boost his ego about "how is he going better in life"... Because he is having a chemistry degree and how smart is he...

In that few months when I talked to him, it got even worse, everyone popped up everywhere.

When I stopped talking to him, I only saw these old classmates in my FB friend requests. Then I blocked them. And blocked this geek guy from Instagram, but it was just one profile from the two, he tried to follow me again, but after a few weeks I didn't accepted it and blocked that too.

After that, this guy continously walks into my girlfriends workplace and looking at her suspiciously to this days.

Few days ago, I met the bday girl in a shop it was random, we talked a little bit. But I saw it on her face that she is anxious, didn't want to talk to me, she felt uncomfortable, she rotated her head and eyes to search for an exit etc.

Basically I don't know anymore who I can trust.

Anyways, I'm still gonna post memes, jokes, personal stuff.

Mike needs to be needed. That's a perfect definition of him, I love it so much.

Mike needs to be needed

I, of course, love the Mike protecting Will things. I love how Mike is always there for Will but i love when it's reversed. It's been shown in every season that Mike needs to be needed. The Van scene is a great example of this. The entire time he talks is he's saying that El doesn't "Need" him anymore. What gets his spirts up? Will lying and saying that El does ,in fact, need him. This doesn't come from left field either! From season 1 and jumping off the quarry to save Dustin, hiding El away in his basement, using her to find Will. He needs to be needed in season 1. In season two he's by Will's side, he's always with him and falling for his every need. His mind is on keeping Will alive and everything else doesn't matter. He goes back to the tunnels to help Will. In season two, it's all about Will. But season three? Oh, El NEEDS Mike, or atleast Mike thinks she does.

Mike doesn't want to lose El again, he can't lose anybody again. Mike is very protective and has been hinted to have abandonment issues. He's by El's side because he thinks she needs him because she asked him out, and when Max "takes" El away. His mind goes wild and thinks that he's losing El, clearly irrational. He only snaps back into it when he accidentally hurts Will. That's where his focus on Will last season comes into play, he forgot his main focus, the main person who needed him, for another and had to reboot himself. The problem was El didn't need him, she wanted him. She wanted the normality that came with Mike. Mike didn't want to kick El out right away like Dustin and Lucas wanted to, he was patient with El and was unlike she's ever seen before. That's what caught El, not a need, but a want for that normality.

Then in season four he thought nobody needed him and was losing his shit. He thought Will replaces him with a girl and was giving his art to someone else (Remember his binders and El's letter?) He thought El didn't need him because she had "A bunch of friends" (she was lying) and didn't confine in him about her bullies and told him that he wouldn't know what it was like. She, unintentionally, made Mike feel more unneeded and useless by that. However, Will, by the painting made Mike feel needed, even if he knew Will was lying I like to think he chose to believe in the lie just because he wanted that feeling. He needed that soft dopamine hit even if it was all fake.

Imagine if in season 5 Will states that he needs Mike without hiding behind El. Like after Mike tries to sacrifice himself for the Party Will berates him and says that he needs Mike, and it encourages Mike to stop hiding too. it would make Mike feel so love and would soothe a deep insecurity in Mike.

Death by comparison

Comparing oneself to others is a given in life.

Comparing oneself to one's heroes is also a given.

People say to never meet your heroes. Most say this because they believe their heroes will never measure up to who they thought they were. Others say this because they believe they will never measure up to the greatness that is their hero.

For Tim, he believed neither. He met his heroes. Met Batman and Robin Nightwing. And they were everything he expected them to be and more. He even became one of them. Became the new Robin after the loss of the last.

He was finally getting everything he'd dreamed of. Even things he never could have imagined. So why did he feel as though he didn't deserve it? As though he was unworthy of the Robin mantle.

Despite Dick's encouraging smiles and Bruce's constant efforts of being a better dad than his actual father, Tim couldn't rid himself of that feeling deep in his gut. A feeling of worthlessness, that he was just pretending to fit in.

His fears were only deepened with Jason's return from the dead. When another of his heroes hunted him down, took down his team, and nearly beat him to death, all while calling him a pretender. A replacement. Because that's what he was. He was a pretender. A replacement. An imposter.

Tim Drake was nothing more than a replacement for a dead son. A pretender in disguise. An imposter with a brilliantly crafted mask.

His life as Robin was nothing more than a facade of gilded lilies. Maybe that's why he walked away under the guise of taking time off to find himself. Maybe he walked away because he didn't want to keep up the charade anymore.

Or maybe he was running away. From the family he didn't feel a part of. From the role he had failed at. From the comparison that was slowly killing him.

Death by comparison, what a way to go.

could u maybe write a oneshot abt hawks x reader with POTS? i will explain what that is just in case u arent aware. thats a syndrome to where someone has very low blood sugar and they get light headed pretty much every time they stand up after sitting or laying down for a long amount of time. also it just being lightheadedness, fainting, nausea at random moments. do more research if needed :)

i still need to get diagnosed but ik i most definitely have it and i just thought it would be nice to have some kind of fluffy scenario where keigo takes care of her! like maybe its kinda early into the relationship so when she passes out for the first time in front of him, he freaks out. she told him abt it when they first started dating but he was still very caught off guard.

It was the first time you and Keigo had a sleepover. He practically begged you on his knees to come over--he wanted to spend some more quality time with you since you were newly dating. Sooner or later you gave in to those puppy dog eyes of his. It's not that you didn't want to be with him- far from that. You were just worried about what might happen, and how he'd react. When you two first started considering becoming more than just friends, you opened up to him about your condition, POTS. Unfortunately, the blond may have been too distracted to remember that, which only made your nerves worse.

So here you were, duffle bag in hand, standing in front of his stupid expensive apartment door. The tension in your stomach was making you sick. Just one night, you told yourself, nothing to be anxious about.

Knock knock knock!

Your hand shakes as you return it to hold your bag, and soon, Keigo opens his front door.

As soon as he sees your cute face, his mouth instantly melts into a toothy grin. "What took you so long!! I've been cleaning up for you ALL DAY! Wouldn't want my pretty girlfriend staying in a dirty apartment!" he winks.

You sweetly share his smile, coyly looking him up and down. "S-sorry! This complex is huge... I got lost like five times."

"Well, I'm glad you found your way, dove. Here, let me take that for you." He bends forward slightly to take your bags, his sweet musky cologne filling your senses.

He then guides you into his apartment, which in fact did look sparkling clean.

"I have all of your favorite movies, plenty of junk for us to eat, and lotssss of blankets." He mentions, entering the hallway to drop off your things.

In his absence, you stop for a moment to soak the place in. It was rather plainly decorated, with vast tall ceilings and white marbled countertops.

Your daze is broken by giddy footsteps approaching you.

"Did I mention how happy I am that you're here and so glad you agreed to this??" Keigo gently cups your hands, raising them to his mouth to kiss.

Your face flushes in response. "Thank you for having me over.."

Hours pass as you and your loving boyfriend cuddle on the couch surrounded by blankets and candy, accompanied by the low hum of a movie playing in the background. With your back against his chest, you could feel every inhale and exhale, and his hand caressed up and down your leg in gentle and cautious movements.

"Kei?" You perk your head up to face him.

"mmyeah?" he groggily replies.

"I gotta pee..."

At that he dramatically sighed, whining, "But I'll be so cold and lonely without you!!"

Giggling at his dramatics, you ruffle his hair as you begin to stand up, shaking off 5 layers of blankets.

That's when it hit you.

The next thing you know, everything starts to feel a bit fuzzy, and it goes black.

*thud!*

Keigo jumps at the sight of your figure collapsing, desperately crawling across the couch to you.

"Y/N??" He shouts, a slight tremble in his words. His arms swiftly scoop you off the floor, cradling you in his lap.

"Oh my god. Y/n??"

Keigo's calloused hands cup your cheeks and check your temperature. He could feel you breathe, which gave him some relief.

"crap..." he mumbled to himself, "what do I do?"

He softly picked you up bridal style, propping you against the arm of the couch and on your back. He then proceeds to rush to the kitchen, slip on his socks, get back up, and grab you a glass of water.

Kneeling next to you, he attempts to give you water, parting your lips cautiously.

"Drink up, pretty. I'm here, it's going to be ok..."

Before he could raise the glass to your lips, your eyes began to flutter open.

"Kei...?" you softly whisper

"Dove??? Are you ok??" His eyebrows furrow together, matching his equally as concerned eyes.

"Did I faint again?"

"Again?? What do you mean again??"

"Baby... I have POTS, remember?" Your tired eyes met his as your hand grasped his shaking one.

"How could I forget, I am SO sorry Y/n.." He threads his fingers through your hair, planting a kiss on your forehead. "I wouldn't blame you if you dumped me right here for being so careless."

That makes you chuckle, as if.

"It's ok, I didn't want to burden you with it so I didn't really explain it all."

"Dove, you'd never be a burden to me. Look, I'm listening now, tell me everything."

Keigo transfers you to his lap again, holding you gently as you explain your condition. You can physically see him trying his best to make mental notes of every detail.

After that, he vowed to know every single thing there is to know about your condition. As you fell asleep, he cautiously snuck away to his office. He spent hours and hours reading countless medical studies and journals. He researched exactly how to help you and the signs he can look for, so he can be better prepared next time.

Eventually, he made his way back to your sleeping figure, wrapping you up close to him. Your soft heartbeat comforted him, he was so thankful you were ok. You were the last thing he wanted to lose.

Tucking your hair behind your ear, Keigo leaned in to whisper.

"I'll take care of you, I promise."
