For a bunch of bust profiles, I really have a lot to say about this one. Which is unusual for me!

The glittery hair is a personal headcanon of mine- I just thought it'd be fun to draw. :] And it was! Blending the hair colors was so satisfying, hehe~

This piece was an experiment in several ways... For one, I tried to get a good tonal range of lighter skin tones in there. This is hard with markers, since many of them are darker than what I needed, so I had to mix a few colors to get the results I wanted. I also tried to make the profiles of each Guardian distinct. I struggle HARD with Same Face Syndrome and drawing profiles... Why not hit two birds with once stone, right? So I hope I'm getting better at that. Well, that's all I wanted to say. I had fun with this one, if you can't tell!

Notes: I come from the era of creepypasta where everybody believed Toby was very obsessed with waffles, and was horribly misinterpreted in fanfiction. That was about eight years ago now though, and from what I've seen the fandom has been getting better with representation of Toby.

I've put a lot of thought into this. Might use this as inspo to revamp my Jeff headcanon list.

❥General

I want to start by saying: I know almost nothing about Tourette's syndrome and don't know anybody who has it. If I get anything wrong, please please please correct me. I wanna get this right for you lovelies. Thank you <3

Now, what I do know about Tourette's, is that there are two types of tics: motor and phonic. I believe Toby has more motor tics than phonic. I know he's portrayed as stuttering and twitching/moving rapidly at the same time, but I don't think he has as many phonic tics as we think

I do however, think he has a natural stutter. He was bullied in grade school, and as a fellow bullied child, I can confidently say that he developed the stutter then. I will die on this hill.

His personality is also not at all that of a child, who spends all his time screaming and laughing just for the hell of it. He's unhinged, yeah, but not in the oblivious child way. More of the sadistic way for very obvious reasons.

He's more so reserved, just kinda comes and goes. There will be points in time where he decides to be super obnoxious and fuck with other pastas in the mansion, but that's moreso purposely picking fights and intentionally being annoying than whatever the hell fanfic writers wrote in the early 2010's.

He does have bipolar disorder, so he'll lose his shit when he decides to fuck with people and they fuck with him back. It turns ugly really fast.

With his CIPA (Cognitive Insensitivity to Pain), obviously he cannot feel when he gets injured on missions, or if his motor tics cause him any pain. He won't really give a shit if he finds an injury, and won't really take any steps to go to Eyeless Jack either to get patched up. Either someone else will have to bring him, or Jack will have to hunt him down himself.

Speaking of Jack, he was able to fix up the left side of Toby's mouth when he came to the mansion. Fixing Toby's injury and Jeff's face were the first two things he did.

Toby still chews on his hands and the insides of his mouth, just out of habit or if he's stressed/upset about something.

He doesn't have a reaction to fire, really. He doesn't like dwelling on the past + he's ready to just keel over and die at any moment, so it doesn't really matter to him.

Being called "Ticci Toby" angers him to no end. You will die if you call him that, no exceptions.

❥Romantic

Toby didn't really look for love after joining the mansion

Like I mentioned above, he's ready to die at any point, so he finds it kinda pointless to get a partner if he's just gonna die soon

He noticed when you joined the mansion, but he didn't actually say anything to you until you'd been there for some months. He doesn't particularly associate himself with people in the first place, let alone people he newly "meets."

He's not very friendly at first, but being nice to him even through his obnoxious moments and horrendous mood swings and even going so far as to try to help him (he won't let you in the moment but he'll reflect on it later), it'll get you in his good graces

Being blindingly nice won't just get you in romantic territory. If he sees you being an actual person around others while just being super nice with him, it's going to make him think you're not genuine.

Just be yourself around him. When he sees you treat him the same as the others (with genuine kindness and respect) and not like he's some freak, it'll get you brownie points.

Toby doesn't realize he's insecure and thinks it's normal to get super jealous super easily. His parents didn't have the best relationship and most internet media of relationships is toxic in itself, so you'll have to be the one to sit down with him and lay out your boundaries. Even then, he'll frequently cross them.

It's not because he doesn't respect you or love you. He does. Just sometimes he wants to move the relationship a little faster, or he's impatient and wants kisses when you're with the others, or he's just plain forgetful.

Again on the jealous point though, he's going to get very upset if you don't notice he's jealous. In his mind, it's very obvious. Eventually he'll get so upset that he yanks you away from the people, cusses them out, then storms off with you and slams every door he goes through for extra measure. He's then going to cry as he holds you, apologizing and saying he didn't mean it and he was just scared you were going to leave him.

He doesn't let you be with your other pasta friends without lurking in the background, watching yours and their every move. He loves you and just wants to make sure you're okay. Happily accepts you back into his arms when you're done.

The only time you'll be able to hang out with friends outside the mansion (without him watching you) is when Toby is away on missions. If you befriend the right pastas, they'll cover for you. If he's not away though, he's very likely going to be stalking you and your friends in the background.

Toby doesn't care if you give him PDA or not, he just wants to be near you and do what he wants in the moment. Once he realizes he has feelings for you, he's going to be clinging to your side.

Loves when you show him physical affection and attention without him asking.

He also loves when you involve him in things you like. He might not participate in it, but the fact that you thought of him makes him happy. His favorite thing is eating some snacks while cuddling on his bed and watching some show you love.

Toby by himself just kinda exists. Toby in a relationship with you just kinda exists, but he wants people to know that you only exist with him.

For obvious reasons, Toby is a fucked up individual, and a relationship with him will always be toxic in some aspect. Everyone in the pasta mansion is fucked up, and very few will have healthy relationships. Yes, we love the pastas anyway, but we cannot fix them, so just keep that in mind lovelies <3

📚 BOOKS — What level of education has your oc most recently completed/is currently in (GED, undergraduate, grad school, phd, etc)?

Absolutely none. At all. Ever. At least not "formally" or "officially." He grew up in the Abyss, and there certainly aren't school down there.

Lady Rhoda taught him how to read, write and do math as well history and biology (sex ed at 20 something is better late than never,right?), but he already had steady income, so there was no need for trying "formal" education. He does research things on his own since he doesn't like not knowing things and having that used against him, though.

🔺 RED TRIANGLE POINTED UP — Does your oc know how to use any weapons?

Silas most certainly does! While he mainly uses magic as his weapon, he knows how to use spears, harpoons, knives, and probably swords if you give him one. I feel if guns could actually work under the sea, he'll be able to use one. Also, a fun fact from Silas: seaweed can, in fact, be used to strangle if you use it right.

🐉 DRAGON — What is your oc's favourite mythical creature?

I'd say Sirens from Greek Mythos. He finds them fascinating. It does annoy him that so many think these half bird half women creatures look like merpeople, including the mer people. It's probably the first thing he'll infodump about. Finn has heard his rants about the many misconceptions about Sirens hundreds of times.

🍔 HAMBURGER — Is your oc good at cooking? are they good at baking? which one do they prefer?

Silas is good at cooking! Though he technically can't "cook" anything since they're underwater? But I like to imagine there are heated air vents on his property he can go to cook something, though usually it's just not worth the trip when there are many raw dishes like stuffed crab, seaweed wraps, etc that he can make.

Baking involves cooking in dry heat without exposure to flame, usually in an oven (hah! I learned that in Hospitality), so I guess he could do it in those air pockets and mini volcanoes? But it's far from house and not worth the trip, though maybe he will "bake" on special occasions. He likes it and is good it at it. He prefers cooking, though.

🤒 FACE WITH THERMOMETER — Does your oc get sick easily?

Okie angst time

Hah! Nope! He used to get sick a lot as a child, then (and kinda now too, actually...) he was just sickly because of how malnourished he was. His immune system is something else, truly, as he's been exposed to so many sicknesses and infections it'll leave doctors confounded. It's difficult for him to get sick. Well... though it wasn't necessarily an illness, he gave himself "refeeding syndrome" by trying to make up for what he was lacking when he finally had steady access to food.

Refeeding syndrome is when someone malnourished or starved suddenly begins eating again, and the quick introduction of foods can cause problems and even be fatal. This is why it's best to have the process of healing from starvation overseen by a qualified medical professionals.

Now Silas didn't trust doctors at the time, so he never went to one, but what he did do was simply go back to eating the same amount of food he used to so he didn't keep throwing up and getting sick. Morrigan eventually forced him to go to a hospital. (Silas was horrified when he learned what a feeding tube was)

heyo, sorry if this is a bit of an uncomfortable question, but I've been thinking about it for a while. I'm really curious to know the opinion of a biologist with more experience (especially a queer one hehe)

have you ever faced any pressure like, "who even cares about your research on these weird bugs?" (a bit of a generalization on entomology, though it also kind of applies to my general interest in pursuing zoology) or "you do know you won't be making much money, right?", as well as questions like, "why don't you go in medicine? a career as a doctor is more promising, researchers barely get paid anyway"

and if you did, how did you deal with it? i guess my impostor syndrome never fails to catch up to me ahah, but it would be good to know if there's someone like this as well

Sorry I took so long to get to this! There's no way to answer this briefly, I think.

Yes, all the time. It's the curse of anyone in basic science research. Luckily, for me, I don't think that pressure has come from anyone who actually matters. Academic influences, and even my parents are very supportive of my career path (my parents maybe not so much supportive as much as "pressuring", but that's a different story). From more distant family, online, family friends, and random people I meet everywhere? All the fucking time, and its very tiring.

There's two very different issues at hand in your ask, though. The financial aspect, and the level of respect and understanding people have for basic science in the first place.

As for the financial aspect… I'm sorry. The reality is that yeah, you're not gonna make much money. But you have to ask yourself whether that's a priority for you. You'll definetly make enough money to live on, but it won't be a glamorous amount. You genuinely have to love what you do, and that can be a bit rough. But there's nothing wrong with that. There's a lot of pressure to choose the highest paying careers, even when its past the point of increasing your means. Its okay not to care. But yeah, unfortunately, no one's getting rich in field work :/

For the other aspect… that is a huge disconnect between the general public and science, and one that I think manifests in a lot of ways beyond even what you're saying. The value of basic science research is twofold. The reason most people who are passionate about the subject get into research is for its own sake- the world is cool! To me, inquiry and curiosity are one of the most beautiful things about being human, and is worth it for the simple sake of expanding our range of knowledge as a society. It's like asking who cares about some dumb painting while looking at the Mona Lisa. But, to be blunt… some people just don't see that. Which brings us to the other aspect: unseen utility. Basic science research saves the world. And that's not really an exaggeration. The example I've given so many people recently is COVID vaccines. mRNA molecules being able to cause immune reactions was a "who cares" research problem a couple decades ago… and look at us now. Oftentimes its not so one-to-one, though. For ecology, the bulk quantity of ecology research contributes to our understanding that ultimately guides how we care for the world. While its sometimes difficult to see how "those weird bugs" contribute to public policy and understanding, but "those weird bugs" alongside "those weird plants" alongside "those weird fungi" alongside "those weird rats" and whatever else, together, contribute to the net understanding of what areas need to be protected, what ecosystems are at risk, what ecosystems threaten human existence if they collapse, and how best to protect all of those. Research matters.

I'm picking nits, but neither sounds like imposter syndrome to me. In fact, I think it's kinda the opposite. I think you'll fit in just fine with entomologists, or other scientists in zoology, ecology, evolutionary bio, or whereever. A lot of them have gone through exactly the same thing that you are, from their early career interactions with friends and family to their later career interactions with the public and outreach. So in a way, I think that's your solution as well. If you take the first leap into your field, either declaring a major, becoming involved in a particular research lab, volunteering, or whatever else, you're going to start surrounding yourself with people who have undergone the same external pressures that you're facing right now. They'll intrinsically understand the value of the type of research you wanna do, and they'll also understand that not everyone sees it that way.

But getting to that level is hard. It requires persistence. But you'll get there <3

So I truly wish there’s more I could say, but I’m so engrossed in reading and the tension, especially in the last part where he kinda punishes her, but then decides to not do it, stunning, I was so on edge. Even though he is definitely very dark I still think there’s like a glimmer of hope in him because I mean, he could’ve lost himself in the punishment but he was able to stop himself and there are light hearted moments so he’s not entirely bad 👀

How has your “sim style” changed throughout your years of playing?

I think I kind of managed to beat the same face syndrome most of my sims had the first years I played the game (I didn't join simblr then), and I definitely found a pair of skins and details that I use consistenly on my simmies, so they look less wonky. Since I also embraced MM CC and vanilla items, most of them look more in sync with the game visuals.

My GShade preset does almost all the work, honestly. For story posts, I plop the pics in a PS template I made and add the captions, and for the gameplay posts I also have another templates that fit my other format. I add some text, stickers or overlays, run topaz clean and boom. I use ezgif.com for the gifs :D

What expansion/game/stuff pack do you want next? 

Something medieval or pirate related, or some other occults like fairies and zombies. Honestly I'll take anything that'll add gameplay features. (I would also like a pack refresh for the mermaids, they suuuuck)

thank you so so much!! i think i struggle with it a lot too but just really make a conscious effort to make specific features different. like if you draw one face and go to another, draw the exact opposite-shaped nose from the last one you did, same with eyes, mouth, etc. and drawing them side by side can be a big help too!

also playing around with the sizing of features helps too, like one character has big eyes, another has smaller, bigger mouth, small mouth, medium mouth etc. etc. also references!! try to draw different faces from real-life people. another fun exercise can be taking characters you enjoy from 2D media and redrawing their faces with different features. ANWYAY HEHE just some little things

Hello do you remember when I talked about Green Power over a month ago? No? Well here's more anyway!

It's the titular best friend/acolyte: Ana!

Okay! So! Her full name is Ana Monih (still not quite sure about the spelling). The reason why she actually gets a surname is because it is a pun! Of course it is adhklfg. (Anemone)

As you can see I am having some trouble with her eye colour. Up to today her eyes have only been pitch black ovals so that doesn't help :'D

She is crafty and, of course, knows her way around technology. So she's the perfect hacker-nerd-information finder stay-on-base acolyte for Green Power! On the field (figuratively, since she helps from afar), she goes by Wave. Because radio waves etc. Hehe. It might seem useless, since she doesn't really faces supervillains face to face and most people don't really know she's even there, but it's better not to call out her real name when there's an evil villain two meters away.

Fun fact! Wave was actually the og name I gave her! I completely forgot, but then I found the old Green Power comic I made. But Wave is a really bad name and I decided that it'd be better as an alias.

Backstory-wise, she's on the same boat as Lila as in that she only has one parent (what is this, main character syndrome?), although the missing one is her dad and she honestly doesn't know who he is/was (but I do >:)), and also unlike Lila she was never kidnapped by Dr. Pesticide.

She was the one who set up their website though! I don't know if I've mentioned it last time, but Ana and Lila have a website where they talk about environmental issues and going to protests and stuff.

When Lila escaped from Being Kidnapped And Given Powers, Ana was the first one to find out! In fact she was probably the only reason why Lila didn't try and cut her wings off or something! And she also helped her out a lot in the whole becoming-a-super-hero thing! Even her costume! And figured out the star sticker! So technically this is at least half her fault!

Anyway, height wise, I think she'd start off being shorter than Lila/Green Power, but eventually she'd become taller than her. It might be unrealistic considering the age they're at but I can do whatever I want muhuhuhahaha

She doesn't have powers, but I did think she could eventually get some maybe. Maybe water powers? Or maybe not. Either way it is A Thought that is fun to think. If she did get powers I think she'd start going out on the field more, but not completely forget the whole tech acolyte thing either.

Clothes wise, she usually wears sweaters with funky patterns. Also I tried to draw her with more angles, unlike Green Power, who is more round.

Engage Drip Marketing: Etie

Welp, looks like we’re finishing up the Firene roster after all. Feels a bit weird since we see to recruit her earlier in the game than Celine, Louis, and Chloe. But oh well.

Today, we’ve got Etie. She’s a character we’ve known about for a while, but it’s nice to finally get a full look at her. I like her design a bit, and I understand what they’re going for. I can tolerate same face syndrome in anime because, well, it’s kind of an industry standard. Still, the artstyle kind of makes Etie look like she’s twelve instead of just tiny. Maybe if they made her face more angular, and her eyes smaller? I’d also suggest widening the hips, but that probably wouldn’t be noticeable with the skirt. Oh well. With all the clothing customization, it makes sense these characters all have similar body and face types.

Kind of gives me Lysithea meets Claire energy. Also, it seems she’s not Alfreds retainer, just a knight. Still curious if she and the ax fighter are related or not. It’d make sense, seeing as how Etie seems insecure about how tiny she is. In terms of how much I’ll like her, these characters tend to be rather hit or miss. Hopefully she has good supports.

Etie's starting class is Archer. A lightly-armored soldier that fights with a bow, striking from a distance.

Interestingly, her full class has been translated as archer/ spy. Perhaps that means archers share a similar movement type to thiefs, and maybe they have an easier time going through forests and the like. This sub types to classes may also point to class families as well. Perhaps this means Etie has access to classes like assassin when it comes to promoting.

The clip itself also shows a juicy new detail. Seems like Alfred and friends join on the night bridge map, a turn or two after the chapter begins. In hindsight, it is odd that you fight so many lance and sword units, especially pegasus knights. The inclusion of Etie and the ax fighter does seem to make the threat much more manageable. Still seems interesting for an enemy nation to field so many pegasus knights. Seems like bows are back to being 2 range only. Hopefully this isn’t too big a deal, especially in an entry that seems so player phase focused. Also, I just noticed Clan only has half his hp gonna, right next to a peg knight. So, it seems like pegasus knights won’t be too scary in such an early map, which is a good thing. In three houses pegasus knights were downright terrifying with their speed.

To cap things off, there are a couple things I’m curious about. First, we get half the Firene crew in the night bridge chapter. Then we get the other half in the windmill village chapter. We have four more chapters shown off, but we haven’t seen any new recruits. I kind of doubt we’d go so long without new recruits in the early game, though, so I’m curious. Are there other Firene characters they just aren’t showing off for time, ones they want to keep more of a surprise?  Or are the new characters dropped in batches with each new country we visit?

Something else I’m curious about is the current pace of the drip marketing. Cause at the current speed we're going, it seems like we'll be at the end of the autumn country when the game comes out. Considering we have at least two other major box art characters from Elusia and the desert country, I feel like it’d be extremely odd if they didn’t get tweets. And that’s not counting all the emblem characters. Some of those could be obtained real late into the game, so they may want to hold off on too many spoilers. Either way, I’m cool with not seeing every character and map. Still, I’d at least like to see a couple characters from each of the countries. Hopefully we’ll get the ax fighter this Friday, and the pace will pick up a little.
