Can’t even lie man I’ve been offline all day and i immediately went to your blog to read your takes on the session and Pearl n gem n co. after watching some wild life. Thanks for having the best takes lol

genuinely, it’s an honour. crazy to me that anyone would come to this blog for good takes, they never make any sense and i’m always suspiciously resentful towards c!scott. i’ll take this opportunity to lay out my gempearl thoughts as well

first of all, it drives me insane the way pearl usually goes along with whatever scott and cleo says, but the only thing she consistently, and has repeatedly, contradicted them on is that she’s been antagonising gem. in fact at the start of the session scott poked her about it again and she laid out a short monologue to assert that his claims were invalid. funnily enough she goes back on this a few seconds later saying that “i’ll make her have a reason to hold that grudge” which honestly is not helping her case. however if gem can make vague threats about impulse i don’t see why pearl can’t do the same. women’s wrongs and all that.

and then after that scott tells impulse and pearl to apologise to gem and joel. again, it’s a bit odd to me how they keep harping on this bit, but every time they do, all they do is scold impulse for rightfully constantly accusing gem over the cows, and then impulse apologises, yet pearl is still implicated (for NOTHING). pearl did protest this point earlier that she was “just existing”, scott counters that “i don’t know what you’ve done but you’ve annoyed her”, so “keep your distance”.

and to think that the argument only happened because scott made a throwaway comment about a “request” he had for pearl if she wanted a life from him. i feel like he meant it as a funny aside and expected pearl to just shut up and take it, but pearl never shuts up and takes it so that’s the problem there.

also, on secret life: pearl argues that she was right to ally with scar, which like, okay, fair enough, but scott says that “it takes time” and that “look we’re together” i’m not sure why he’s under the perception that GGG is in anyway functional or healthy considering he himself is trashtalking impulse and pearl with gem geminitay (ok sorry i’m just salty over him being buddy buddy with gem). at one point cleo goes “we have to be enablers” (lowkey incorrect because pearl hasn’t done anything, you can’t enable someone to just do nothing, but i appreciate the sentiment) and pearl just starts. throwing eggs at the ground. really funny out of context.

now for the actual gempearl interaction (we get like one and a half per episode i’m actually starving). they’re so obsessed with each other. trust me i said so. pearl beelining to gem to say “hi gem! :D” and gem beelining to pearl to punch her and say “go home pearl” oh they make me ill i feel like they’re just constantly on each other’s minds. the problem is that we haven’t gotten a good gempearl interaction because when they’re near each other their allies are also hanging around, so it always ends up with gem getting glazed by scott or pearl getting distracted by bigb or something like that. it’s such a pity because gem specifically went to find the 4Gs’ base but she went to the old one instead of the new one where pearl was hanging around so we could have potentially gotten a 1 on 1 shiny duo interaction this session (i’m not sure about the timeline there) but we DIDN’T because gem’s not talked to the 4Gs enough to know that they moved bases. grrr.

and then gem drops the anger for a bit to encourage pearl to kill grian. i have NO idea what that’s about, i feel like she’s just into bloodthirst in general but what it does remind me of is her trying to convince pearl to kill the ender dragon in SL, coincidentally, when pearl was impulse’s butler. and now she’s encouraging pearl to carry out what impulse wants. i don’t know. maybe her type is murderers and she’s trying to give pearl a chance. or something

anyway as for the other half an interaction where gem finds etho pearl and cleo at her base, gem reverts back to loudly disparaging pearl within earshot. i feel like she’s nailed “ex who really wants you to know that you’re exes”, and pearl getting so indignant about it she can’t even form a sentence for a few seconds is great actually. might be a reach but whether on hermitcraft or life series, pearl tends to stumble over her words a lot when directly challenged by gem, which is probably just because she’s thinking hard on what to say and is sleep deprived half the time. but i find it pretty telling that pearl doesn’t say anything back to gem and just. leaves. it’s very obvious she’s still down bad for gem in a way but gem is intentionally making it very hard for pearl to remain so.

last paragraph. when joel visits pearl at their new base, joel is happy that pearl called his build a car and said she liked it (pearl likes cars fork found in kitchen). so joel and pearl are on good terms, which i expect would lead to interesting dynamics but at the same time joel would definitely follow gem’s lead over maintain that friendship but still his perception of pearl now is positive. so that’s intriguing

Nothing good will come out of putting more attention to yourself, you thought. Grian would probably prefer that you didn't put attention to yourself either.

You were on alert about the presence inside the house and quickly ducked under the window as you made your way to your bickering companions, panickedly waving your arms around to signal them to stop yelling at each other.

"There's people inside the house!" you whisper-yelled, causing both Grian and Scar to pause and hold in their breaths.

"Ah, well, suppose we shouldn't expect Keralis and X to be anywhere else," Scar whispered back with a giggle, "Good call." (+1 rep)

You all glance over at the Big House one more time before Grian holds on the handles of Scar's wheelchair and starts scurrying away from the building, "Yeah, let's not... do this little game anymore. The sooner we get to the infirmary the better."

You nodded in shame and follow after them with an equally hasty pace.

(!) Missed Keralis' and Xisuma's 1st Connection Branch.

With the mishap surrounding your powers and the short-lived game Grian set upon you, your group find their way to the infirmary. A building that looked wider than it is taller. It was a mix between broken and comfy looking, especially with the arrows stuck all over the roof and the one that was barely holding up the sign.

Judging with the way that neither Scar nor Grian commented or reacted to it, you assume that the arrows were purposefully put there for decoration... You hope.

"Welcome to my second home!" Scar joked as he was pushed up the ramp to enter.

Scar and Grian looked more at ease when further away from the Big House, but as soon as you entered inside the actual infirmary, your relaxed states were cut short by a cough.

All you slowly turn your heads to look at where the noise came from with dread on your expressions, especially evident on Grian's and Scar's face while you were mostly left confused at the sight of another person.

"Well, if it ain't our two little troublemakers!"

"And.. oh! Another victim of yours?"

You were met with the sight of a tall and fairly muscular man. By first impression, you thought he was a rockstar from the 90s, but maybe that was because of how he styled himself with the addition of the long hair.

You could've sworn he was physically glowing. You had to rub your eyes to make sure you weren't imagining it, but the three continued to converse amidst your personal confusion.

Scar was sheepishly trying to excuse Grian and himself, "We haven't done anything wrong!" he defended, "I mean, I haven't done anything wrong. Grian howeve--" he was willing to add more, but one glare from his partner in crime had him shutting up with a sheepish smile.

It was then Grian's turn to defend himself, "I haven't done anything! Skizz, if I were to have done anything, wouldn't there be more patients by now?"

'Skizz' tried to look serious, but the guy still couldn't help but break out into giggles, "Sure, but it's more concerning to see that there even is one in the first place," he gestured to you, making you wonder just how many times Grian and Scar had escorted their 'victims', "And you just about missed Doc too."

Scar kept quiet in fear for his safety as Grian grumbled under his breath for even more excuses. Seeing as neither of the two were willing to actually go ahead and explain anything, Skizz turned to you.

"So, what's up, lil' fella? What'cha in for?"

You thought that phrase was something to be used in another context, but you didn't speak up to correct him.

"I got... a bump on my head," you explained vaguely, wondering just how much you could reveal without getting Grian in trouble. Skizz seemed to sense that there's more to that statement and pressed further.

"Uh huh, anything else?"

You glanced at Grian, who seemed to silently beg you to come up with an excuse, but he had already faced away from you before you could confirm. Whatever you did, he doesn't seem to trust that you'd actually make up an excuse to save him so he was hunched over like he was preparing to be scolded.

"No, nothing else."

When you answered that, Skizz and Grian looked over to scrutinize your expression, looking for a secret or reason you're hiding, with Grian mostly looking over at you weirdly yet gratefully. When you kept a steady expression and didn't speak any more than that, you breathed a sigh of relief as Skizz decided to not ask further.

"Well, I'm no good at checking the medical stuff to see if you do have anything else other than a bump on the head," he said while beckoning you over to one of the infirmary beds behind a curtain, urging you to sit down, "So I'll do some basic healing and we'll see if I can call Doc back over to check on the rest."

"You troublemakers, on the other hand, will have to wait outside. Don't forget how you confetti bombed the infirmary last time," Grian seemed alarmed at that and he immediately tried to follow after you, only to be stopped by Skizz.

The boy in the red cardigan forced a cheery smile, "They need me for emotional support!"

"You already gave them a bump on the head, what other support would they need from you?" Skizz said lightheartedly, but it didn't ease up Grian's expression.

You were alerted at how eager Grian was to cling onto you now. But then again, you'd probably want to stick to your problem too after you possibly lost a supposed important magic thing from dropping it on their head. Who knows if there's actual side effects other than a bump on the head? If this camp had actual good doctors, Grian probably wouldn't be the only one in trouble.

There was still the amnesia and the weird powers. Is that information something you should be protective of?

You fidgeted on the spot as stubborn Grian had to be whisked away by an equally stubborn Skizz. Scar looked back at you and at the pair in hesitation before approaching you, taking your hand and quickly forcing a bird whistle into your hands.

You looked up at him inquiringly, silently wondering if this was a silent threat or some sort of metaphor. Scar gave you a sheepish smile, "I'm gonna be honest. That magic of yours isn't normal."

You blinked confusingly. So was he just acting amazed by you to make you panic less? "But... you said nothing is exactly normal here?"

"By mortal standards, nothing is normal here," Scar sounded much more serious than he had been for the past few minutes, "By the normal standards here, you're the.. abnork-- mm.. abnomnality," well, there goes the serious talk.

"What I mean to say is- whatever wrong happens, you'll have to prepare for it! Seeing as whatever was in the box had seeped into little mortal you," he tapped on the bird whistle you had in your hands, "This quest only remained in Grian's and Xisuma's hands so they know the most about it. But since me and lil' birdie over there have ac- accumerlated distrust with the infirmary volunteers, Grian can't control anything that'll happen here from now on."

Scar mimicked a bird's call horribly, "Use the whistle if something goes wrong. Grian usually answers to it. I do too. Mumbo would as well, but...." he trailed off and went quiet when he realized you wouldn't exactly know who he was talking about. (+1 Grian Connection, +1 Scar Connection)

"Well, just know that it's a thing we have as friends to alert for danger. You gotta whistle immediately so we could control the problem if your.. 'magic' goes wrong."

You examined the bird whistle nervously, "Is something meant to go wrong?"

"Well, it was called Pandora's box for a reason!"

Scar said that so joyfully you wondered if he realized just how terrifying that statement is. Not that either of you get to speak on it as Grian's squawking was getting louder outside.

"We'll be around, no worries!" Scar patted you on the shoulder one last time before wheeling himself away, leaving you to yourself for once ever since you woke up.

... But even so, it felt as if you're truly not alone.

Keeping Scar's comments in mind, you feel the urge to.. move. Do something. Something.

wait im confused what is this kerilson lore you mentioned im apprently missing out on? Who/what is kerilson??

ok i'm gonna recap literally everything i can remember about kerilson because i'm not sure how much context you have. SO. INCOMING INFODUMP:

if you've been following the rest of hermitcraft season 9 you'd know that the majority of the active hermits went through the rift and got trapped on empires smp for a month. one of the only hermits left behind was xb, and he handled this... interestingly (badly)

so after showing footage of the hermits going through the rift via a security camera he apparently has set up in grians base, and then trying to claim the entire shopping district as his property (off to a good start) he opens his next episode proudly declaring that he's actually NOT alone, he has a friend, and that friend knows how to open the rift again!

enter kerilson:

i should clarify that kerilson is, first and foremost, a reference to the movie castaway. like. in that movie the protagonist is stuck on an island with nobody to talk to but a volleyball he's named wilson. so theres already precedent for kerilson being just xb going kind of stir crazy without his friends (especially keralis).

so according to xb, kerilson demands a diamond throne (which also includes concrete slabs, the first sign that something weird is going on) and then they reopen the rift. except the rift sends xb to previous hermitcraft seasons instead of empires, where kerilson is distracted by wanting to look at past keralis builds instead of helping xb find his friends. eventually xb DOES end up on empires, but its season 1, and he's completely alone.

he wanders through the server, finds the ocean, spends several days at sea, gets picked up by a flying kerilson themed boat, the scenery warps back into his base, he gets back into bed, and then is woken up by beef, who seems disturbed by the fact xb is even IN bed. bc, y'know, hermitcraft, sleep should be instant.

he concludes the whole thing was a dream, tho that doesnt explain how he's able to accurately dream of empires s1, but gem's empires lore establishes sleep based world hopping so...... put a pin in that.

anyways two episodes later kerilson can be spotted watching xb in the background of his base, but isnt acknoweldged. xb continues to be Totally Normal about his missing friends by building a giant keralis statue, except every time he looks back at it its head is replaced with kerilsons head. so he blows it up.

several months pass with v few kerilson hints, until xb starts teasing a makeship plushie of him and kerilson. in this weirdest way possible. ie. while building his base he mentions he's started hearing noises, and a low joepacity kerilson flashes on screen with scrambled keralis dialog in the background. (side note: xb heard similarly scrambled keralis dialog when keralis was coming back through the rift. unclear if this is related.)

aaand bringing it to now, xb gets a book inviting him to a TCG match, which turns out to be against kerilson. who is apparently real and able to hold TCG matches. except during the animation of the match kerilson never moves and keralis is shown to be helping him behind the scenes, implying kerilson was just an armor stand all along-- except for, you know, the whole established dream demon aspect.

and now he's a marketable plushie! :D

so yeah TLDR: he's an armor stand who has been simultaniously implied to be a figment of xb's imagination, a regular armor stand xb thinks is alive, a regular armor stand controlled by keralis, some kind of fragment of keralis, and an independent, dream controlling being. and also keralis has little to no involvement in any of these episodes.

and as a fun side note, this isnt the first time we've seen some kind of logic defying facsimile of keralis appear in somebody elses episode. when tango went to space to try and stop the moon crashing in season 8, he ran into keralis, who stated he'd been there for months, even tho this is not true in keralis' episodes.

both of these are also scenarios where the enviroment is implied to not be real (a dream / a simulation) and the keralis-a-like appears to help them as they try to leave the server. coincidence? absolutely. but i love to make lore out of nothing!

I may have just tried to find as much evoau and xelqua content as I could find. All very lovely, took me a few hours to get through. I wanted to ask, in your au what caused the moon to fall? I think in canon there isn't really an explanation so wanted to know if the watchers caused it when they found Grian or if it just fell because. (Your au is so cool!!! Thank you for all the lovely art and stories my brain has been fed wonderfully)

Uhmmmm that’s actually something I ask myself a bit !!!! I’m not exactly sure what’s the best way to go abt the moon, I think (adult, regular) Xelqua doing it would make the most sense…

He possesses Grian after taunting him through the void/Boatem hole for awhile, making him distressed and a little bit crazy. Xelqua breaks the server code, and then pulls the moon, perhaps ? That’d get the attention of the Watchers, such chaos. (Plus the imagery mimics Majora and Ocarina, I like that.)

Back when that Moon episode first went up, I remember a lot of non-hermitcraft fans watching it like wtf is happening in hermitcraft ?? I imagine the Watchers are like that Lol.

Usuallyyyy Xelqua would help a distressed Grian out, but it doesn’t take much for him to figure out this is the one that started everything. Xelqua can see his player code and see he’s a Watcher, and can figure out the rest by context clues, so he’s just gotta mess with him. He’s still a Watcher after all, that divine sense of justice… But he does also rationalize that he IS helping Grian, these players don’t even know what he is ! Mumbo and Pearl confront Xelqua the most I think, both knowing exactly what Watchers are.

This does lead to the Watchers finding out where Grian is, and I don’t know all the details but Xelqua does fight with them and the Hermits. Aether and Flora end up there as well, since Grian was their responsibility, it’s only fair they’re alerted and asked what they want to do with him. If it were only Flora, she would’ve taken his eyes, other Watchers agree, it’s a pretty common thing to do to Listeners, but Aether gets final calls with Grian and she’s not gonna do that 😭

Otherrr stuff…. They (hermits or watchers or both) get Xelqua expelled from Grian (I have no details here), and then he escapes through the Boatem hole, a few Watchers probably go after him but it’s rly not a good idea. I think Grian and Aether get to talk. The moon is still going to fall and destroy their server, they still have to leave, Grian still has to have some sort of consequences for what happened, and he’s still exiled. They talk for a long time, Grian drags it on, almost afraid to go back and explain himself to the Hermits, he can see it clearly in his head, they’ll want to exile him too, then he really won’t have anywhere to go-

The Hermits do not exile him, he was just panicking a little bit. He’s genuinely surprised when they include him in their server escape plan. The rest goes how it goes. Tho Grian has to explain himself to them later.

The Hermits are however also banned and exiled from Watcher domaines by extension.

Xelqua follows them to s9, staying undercover for awhile just watching, they really are interesting to him. He scares the shit out of Grian when he finally decides to show himself, but ! No possession this time ! Promise !

I don’t know if any of that is lame or disappointing or not, I haven’t seen s8 in a long time and it’s something I’d like to rewatch and check other POVs, so this is just what I imagine right now, it’s probably the most difficult part of the AU for me AUGH

Etho Session 3 Liveblog:

slkdfjklsdjfsl 18 seconds in and I'm already losing it.

Etho: "I'm here with Cleo! :) Cleo's looking at the sky... because Cleo likes the sky. So blue, so pretty. She might've got hit by a car and now her neck is broken."

Etho bemoaning the lack of water, then turning around like "Oh, here it is. I'll just make an infinite source block."

Etho following Bdubs around and dunking water on him.

Bdubs: "??? Why are you trying to wash me??"

This is especially funny in the context of Bdubs in Session 2 accidentally relapsing into the roleplay of being Cleo and Etho's kid before Cleo reminded him that was a different series slkdjf.

?? Etho is my 3rd POV. I've seen Tango and Grian so far and this is my first close-up on Impulse. What's that man doing with his skin? Did he kintsuji his face?

slkdjf Etho getting three hearts from the Heart Foundation. His first two decisions are to run to Cleo and tell them they need to bring their enchanting table over to share, then to give Cleo his heart.

Smart move by Etho to approach Pearl and offer to help her when his job is to attempt sabotage.

Me watching Martyn accuse Pearl, having already seen Tango's POV and knowing they did a lot of backpedaling and back and forth and checking the footage to see if Martyn had already used his one accusation of the session, and knowing the result was that they do let Martyn fail Tango: "Uh-oh."

Me watching Jimmy do something similar with Mumbo because I'm pretty sure he also made an attempt to call Tango out: "Uh-oh."

All fun and games in the end, though. Gotta be human and make mistakes; keeps you humble.

Oh now I'm putting together the pieces, Etho's going to confess his love to Joel in the end in an attempt to make people believe he has the same task as Scott... Although he did re-roll his "make someone believe you have the same" task, so hmm...

[Watching a few more minutes] - Gotcha, Grian cut the part out of his video where he told Etho to go say "I love you" to someone.

slksjdf so let me get this straight, Etho was given the job of saying "I love you" to someone with the attempt to make them say it back, knowing full well that Scott successfully got Cleo to say "I love you" back to him, and Etho STILL chooses to pursue Joel and say "I love you" to him instead of Cleo, his basing partner this season. Incredible. No notes. Long live the Boat Boy goofballs.

?? Again Jimmy accuses Etho of a task, so maybe Yellows are just allowed to guess until they get it right? In which case both Martyn and Jimmy are in the clear. I may have misunderstood the rules; will have to watch more POVs to be sure.

Etho's so good at throwing people off his trail with false tasks. He spends the session dumping water buckets on people and building walls to separate people for no reason.

Mumbo calls him "washed up" and Etho immediately dumps the water bucket on himself slkdjf. GG.

whats the context for the burning picture? its not their nest that burned down that was sad? is that while theyre still in the permadeath world? i assume so since it mentions retribution? is this something to do with the vex arc we havent seen but obviously made things worse in new and different ways? can we appreciate how cool that art is and how impactful that scene feels even though i don't know whats going on entirely?

the burning drawing isn't one of their nest! the nest they will have at some point is built in a meadow, and it's high off the ground, built up, to cater to grian's instincts that he kept stifling for so long. (remember, he can't fly. he yearns to be high up, but can't.)

the burny burny from the art does happen while they're still in the permadeath server. it's a deliberate decision grian and scar make. they're not burning anything that belongs to them.

i will be writing a ramble about it at some point, so look out for that! :3 (if you look at the hhau masterpost, you might even spot a placeholder for it ready in the outline—)

i will say, it does happen during the vex arc. but it's not actually important, as no vexes get mentioned. it's an event solely between scar and grian, and i'm excited to tell you guys about it, but i need some time <3

Almost forgot about posting this since I went over it all and talked about it with my friend.

I really wish that Swifty had managed to keep more of the conversations, and while I don't understand particularly extending the trust to the person they did, I cannot blame anybody for not taking screenshots prior to any major incident. It's just not something you really think about in the moment, especially not if its coming form someone you trust.

I do NOT have to imagine what its like to deal with the fall-out of any interaction with Sam, with reactions, responses and accusations from his supporters and friends (in my case, his sister??) and I know it's incredibly stressful. I'm sorry that they had to deal with him for so long, and be known by so many of his vocal supporters.

I have heard of the current claims that Sam is spreading rumors about G, but but i did NOT have the context that someone in a screenshot Swifty also shared was Sam on an alt.

I am a bit frustrated with the knowledge now that Sam is using so many alts, however, I am able to confirm that at least some of those screenshots are real. I can't imagine many people outside of his crew would know Sam's current username. The username Sam is using in which he accuses Grian of removing videos including him, is the username his old primary account had, which he used during his "visit" to the Discord I was in.

Due to my memory disorder, I'm bit foggy on what Swifty is talking about in regards to "making peace" with me and my post and iii. feel a bit weird about that. if anything ever happened with "making peace" it would've been all the way back in 2020, 2021 at the latest. Which, by the way. Sure am feeling Some Way about Sam and his crew members fucking talking about me as recently as FOUR MONTHS AGO. Like, this isn't about me, but let me fucking tell you I was very startled to see mention/reference of myself in such recent messages

Anyway. Fuck Sam. Don't work for him? Like, even if you had NO IDEA what went down in late 2020 with him, a general rule should be to NOT trust people who have had maybe over a hundred different people quit and denounce all ties with them. "all my friends leave me :(" looking ass.

Or the way Sam puts it, which is so much worse and has me questioning his intelligence, "every person i ever talked to (including children and teenagers) are horrible people and pedophiles and i fired them. they never left me i left them" like okay. thats a (PARAPHRASED) statement to make.

Consider how Grian gets possessive of Scar (see “you lose sir!” at jimmy when he got Scar to side with him instead of Tim) and compare with the watchers/secret keeper:

After failing his first task, Scar got to reroll and gets given a pretty easy “hard” task. But then he got people help him, and the watchers started isolating him, making sure he was alone with his tasks and didn’t get any close allies until the very last session when he needed them to win. Scar is the secret keeper’s favorite, but at a price.

Ohh this is really good!!

And it's more interesting with the headcanon I was hinting,

For context, I headcanon Xequla and grian having to share the same body, yet are completely two different people/souls (like Xisuma and Evil X)

Though they both want scar.

Grian had scar before, grian had him in his arms twice, and Xequla wants whatever grian has.. or well, wants grian to have nothing (like In a sibling rivalry kind of way)

So how can Xequla get scar, when scar already have someone who is so possessive over him? (Yes grian cheated on him before, but read anon's first paragraph(?) Well to be even MORE possessive than grian ofcourse,

The secret keeper had eyes on gem at first, would be good for the collection, but after seeing how much scar is worth to grian, how hurt grian looked when he had to win by killing scar, he realized that scar has more value.

And at the end they did get scar, and unlike grian, xequla won't let scr slip out of his hands, cause he's better than grian, and that's why he should be in control of the body.

Hermit Tales AU #003 - Pearl's Blight

"...Grian's gone."

The words spark dawning horror in the Hermits. They seem so innocent, yet with Pearl so dishevelled and shaken... So broken...

Something has happened. Something awful, the gut instincts of the older Hermits who have seen and been through more tell them. Something they don't yet know or understand.

Doc's still organic hand clutches at his cybernetic one in discomfort. He knows the Gods would not be responsible for this, and yet he gets that same feeling of cosmic uncertainty he felt just before fighting Dinnerbone. But its stronger now - not simply a casual bout - and feels awful in the pit of his stomach.

Similar expressions of worry cross the features of Etho, Beef, Joe... All old enough now to have been around the block a few times. To know bad tidings when they see them.

But they all know they can't be feeling it as deeply as Pearl, on such a level its ravaged her. Between the remnants of her Watcher power and her bond with her brother, she's the only one who can give them an immediate insight into this situation.

That isn't to be, though.

The moment the words of defeat cross her lips, its like a light goes out in Pearl, her head falling limp. She drops from exhaustion so suddenly that Gem and Impulse have to fight to keep a grip on her, lest a head injury be added to her woes. Carefully, they lower her to the ground...

...and for the first time - still as she is - the other Hermits are able to notice how pale she is. How she's shivering like its the deepest ice of winter.

This is not simply exhaustion.

Multiple Hermits are on her in moments. Stress, False, Scar... Any Hermit with skills in some form of medicine sets about checking on her, making sure their friend is stable.

Scar finds the blight first.

There's a clear red mark - bruised from impact and blistered like an acid burn - on her side, and from it sickening green lines - pulsing and gruesome - spread through her skin like a weed taking root. These veins - somehow winding and fractal at the same time - still spread as the Hermits watch in horror, the skin around these new intrusions turning as red and hurt as the impact.

And on looking at it, a voice in the back of Scar's soul suddenly screams wrong.

Scar has never heard the Vex show fear or disgust so deep before. So total they recoil anytime he presses for information.

Not even the Watchers could do something like this, cruel as they are.

In panic at Scar's sudden alarmed expression, the Hermits subject Pearl's incapacitated form to every trick they know to slow this infection down.

Gem moves her into a bed in close range of two full-power beacons, one spouting Regen I and the other Resistance II.

Countless Hermits take shifts dousing her unconscious body - unable to drink or eat - with splash and lingering potions of Slowness IV, Slowness+, Healing II, Regen II and Regen+ around the clock to shore up gaps in the beacon effects.

False and Scar spend several sleepless nights researching how to create a Potion of Luck to add to the cocktail - up to and including somehow using Joe Hills' natural good vibes as a catalyst - but come up blank.

Doc and Tango move a wrangled Elder Guardian into a neighboring chamber to afflict Pearl's form with Mining Fatigue, while Tango also helps Mumbo research somehow leeching the healing factor the Ender Dragon gets from end crystals to use for Pearl instead.

Ren and Cub quietly leave the Hermits' world and star system, seeking out the allies they've made through gatherings such as MCC. Surely somebody can help, or at least knows something about this.

Quietly and uncomfortably, Impulse presses a Totem of Undying into Pearl's unmoving hand, and keeps countless more on standby in the room.

Because the veins don't fade with respawn. Xisuma manually resetting Pearl's lifesigns was the first thing they tried, the blight only growing faster when she was restored, still out cold.

At this point, they need every edge they can get.

And even after all this - all these desperate measures - the blight progresses unabated. This affliction goes deeper than just her physical body.

Its slowed for sure, no longer visibly spreading across Pearl's skin, but it hasn't stopped or retreated or faded and after their initial measures and three days of ongoing treatment, the infection covers one side of her abdomen like a rat's nest of crisscrossing green thorns and patchy redness.

No Hermit dares touch it directly, lest the situation be made a million times worse.

Because they've been by Grian's base, now. They've seen the door-like thing that took him and scarred Pearl.

They fear it, though only Scar feels that fear anywhere near as primally as the siblings did, the power that recoils merely borrowed in his case.

They dare not get as close as the unfortunate did, and can learn little as a result.

All they can do now is wait for Pearl to wake up.

And pray that she does.

Scar, Survivors, and the Earth.

In the context of just recently (15 min ago) having finished Scar's final Secret Life Episode, and thinking about the "celestial" aspect that some people like to assign to the winners, Scar is, without a doubt, the Earth.

Let's go back to the beginning: - Scar fails his initial task. Grian, ever the Watcher enabler, allows him to re-roll, and allows people to help him with his task. - This never happens again. - His second task is still okay! He has to hype up Pearl, which he succeeds at. It's part of his marketing! Trader Scar's, the new and (mostly) honest plan. He will be better this season. He will make friends and it'll all be okay. - Again, this does not happen. - His next tasks are: take, ignore, hustle, corrupt, and destroy. It is obvious that Scar is not in the Watcher's favor. He broke the rules at the beginning, and he must prove himself to win. We've seen what happens to rulebreakers, but we've also seen what happens to winners: they never enjoy their win, and they always die. Scar breaks this last part. Everyone at the end of Secret Life is afraid, and ready for it to be over. There has been increasingly high tension in the past few sessions, and everyone knows that this is the final few hours. They will die, and many know that they are not the ones who will make it to the end. Weirdly enough, Scar does not fit into this. He doesn't think he'll win, sure, but he's not going to just give up! What would be the point in all the villainy if he gave up now? And so, in his words, he will blend in with everyone, not in any attempt to make friends, but just to survive a little longer.

The worst part about this is, that at the end, through the desperation of everyone else, Scar finally makes friends. He helps Joel and Bdubs. He works with Pearl after her original allies have died. Scott asks, betrayed, why Scar didn't join their group. Scar would have made friends if not for his tasks, which after Session 2, all required isolation. But in the end, at the final stand, Scar has more people on his side than he knows what to do with. He bounces between groups, unsure of where he should stick, or why he should stick anywhere at all. He is about survival. And that is why Scar wins.

Scar wins through a number of factors (Grian's TNT attack on Gem, Gem sacrificing herself for Scott, Pearl purposefully missing a few swings with her sword), but he wins. And, most importantly, after winning, he doesn't die. Standing in that ravine with the realization that he killed Pearl, that he won, he lets the zombie take him down to half a heart, but he lives. He towers up out of the ravine. He does not jump. He makes his way back to the Secret Keeper and says "I succeeded." Scar is the Earth in the way that he keeps going. Scar refuses, now, to lay down and die, to let these games keep ending with a final death. He is surprised that he's won, but he is satisfied that he felt it was fair, that he didn't take lives just for the sake of a win. He distributed them, helped others, wanted to make sure people knew that they were good at the game.

He says to Pearl, when she offers her life to him, "I genuinely don't want to win that much, to kill you for that." People see Scar as a liar, a hustler, and a betrayer - but in the end, Scar is, in a way, justice. He knows what it feels like to give up, and he's not doing that anymore. He refuses to win at the cost of others. He is the planet that supports life, the planet that gives and takes, and he is the ocean that supports and drowns and makes hurricanes and gentle waves. Scar is Earth, because behind the layers of the many facades, he helps. He will win, but not by bringing other people down. He is loyal, but not to a fault.

I'm writing a fic based on the DBHC au (Detroit Become Hermitcraft au) story/comics by Shepscapades here on Tumblr! If you're not familiar with it, I highly recommend you check it out! I have SUCH brainrot and the storyline and art are so compelling.

I also want to stress this isn't my au - only the explanation and snippets of my little story is my own work. :) All credit goes to Shepscapades for all that and the brainrot

- DBHC spans Hermitcraft (seasons 8 and onwards) and the Life Series (note that all androids were absent from Third Life due to not being created yet)

- It makes use of the android mechanics from the video game Detroit Become Human <- don't worry about that part just yet though :)

- Most major post-Season 7 events seem to still be canon here, and there's a lot of other things going on in each of the androids' - and hermits' - lives (and trauma. </3. yeah. Etho and so many others are Going Through It), often as a consequence of those events.

Anyone new to the au should probably have a look at this illustrated guide post You don't have to read all of it, but I strongly suggest at least checking out the "Guide to Androids", "Deviancy" and even the "Interfacing" sections for proper context!

BASICALLY At some point around Season 8, Xisuma designs androids (like Mumbo, Etho, Impulse and Doc) to assign to some of the hermits (Grian, Bdubs, Pearl and Ren to name a few) for help with everything from building to terraforming. Everything goes relatively smoothly, up until... the androids begin to deviate. <- hence why I linked this post earlier!

This isn't entirely necessary for anything other than understanding the characters and the overarching narrative a bit more, but if you do want further context + cool art + a small break from my rambles, here (1), here (2) and here (3) are really good comics that sorta explain how DBHC Ethubs' relationship starts, and here (4) is the first part of Etho's first deviancy! uh. So like things happened here. Don’t worry about that being labelled first. Or it not being at all normal for an android to deviate twice. Or what situation caused it. Uh. Yeah. :’)

I'm writing an incredibly fluffy (and there's angst now too hehe) oneshot on the two of them.

They've been planting saplings for Bdubs’ Season 10 forest (Etho was originally designed to help with terraforming and that, after all) and it's late afternoon, so, Bdubs being Bdubs, he's tired.

And tired people are clingy, they let their guard down a bit, they start giving in slightly to things they don't have enough energy to fight.

Like the urge to reach out and go hey, come back, I actually want you to play with my hair, I want you to lie with me in the sunshine, I want to listen to the sound of your android heart (thirium pump) because it's a reassurance that even though my eyes are closed you're still nearby, I want you here, and I'm going to hang on to you because I don't ever want you to leave again.

I half-wrote that little summary of my fic a little while back as a proof of concept but. Yeah.

Helloo there blog! I just recently checked out one of your fics about the mermits! It was interesting that I came up with a silly headcannon:

Every season of Hermitcraft, there’s always been this underwater place where mermaids exist. Every hermit is welcomed. It cost like a diamond to become a mermaid and experience being a mermaid! ( I remember it was in one of the fics)

I feel like at least all of the hermits experienced being a mermaid once!

I could probably go on and on about this lol

Helloo there anon! That's an interesting headcanon! The mermits have probably always had a place to go, and yeah, once they've revealed themselves to the other hermits we're sure the other hermits would be welcome!

For context, in this au the mermits are: Etho (who is the one that can cast a temporary mer spell on people), Grian, Hypno, Iskall, Impulse, Mumbo, Scar, Wels, and xB. We've done a few fics that include Etho turning other hermits into merpeople before; his spell lasts multiple days, during which the subject can't turn human again until the spell ends or either they or Etho die and respawn. Bdubs in H2DoubleO, Keralis in Sweetlips, Cub, Zedaph, and Xisuma in the main au fic, Deep Secrets, and Jevin in There Are Many Benefits to Being A Marine Humanoid. And may more Fishy adventures can be found in the full series.

Bdubs would mostly visit a lot because Etho is there a lot - despite Etho always teasing him about his lovely pink mer tail. Bdubs insists that it's salmon-colored, to which Etho always points out that salmon aren't actually that color.

Beef wouldn't hesitate to get himself into the water, get a crash course on being a mer from his good friend Etho, and then insist that he taught him everything he knows :P

Cub would visit the mer palace frequently, too - he'd have fun as a mer. His tail is bright blue with highlights of white.

Doc's cybernetics may be waterproof, but that doesn't mean he necessarily likes to spend a lot of time in the water. It doesn't help that his merform is a bit unconventional. a ‘Leaf Sheep' sea slug to be exact.

False's tail one one of a sword fish, but she doesn't spend much time with the mers, she's busy being the queen of hearts and body parts. But once a Conduit was added, she's happy to pop by as a human.

Gem also doesn't really spend much time with the mers. She's visited once or twice; under Etho's spell her tail is very pretty and spotted, and her antlers turn into coral! But being stuck in the water for days with no legs is a little too disconcerting for her.

Jevin gets to be an octopus whenever he drops by! This is generally very conducive to him being a menace.

Joe is happy to stop by every now and again. Not to often but you know being a fish is quite conducive to building underwater. His tail is a pinstriped zebra fish.

Keralis has to stop by to see xB. All the time. His mer form is based on a very specific type of goldfish.

Pearl hit it off with a number of the mers when she was part of the Boatem crew, so she's happy to drop in whenever she needs a break. Maybe her mer form is based on a bogue - its scientific name is Boops boops :)

Ren very much prefers to keep his paws dry, but he's joined them a few times, as a dogfish shark of course

Tango doesn't like being a fish. He hasn't had a very good experience with it. Impulse and Zed did manage to peer pressure him into hanging out at the mer palace one time though. Never again, he tells them.

Cleo's mer form is a glass fish, meaning her spine is on full display within the tail. She's gone to the Mer hang out a few times but prefers to not get wet so she stays on land.

okay i definitely got distracted building my dresser and forgot to answer, so i’m going to talk about three soft moments in the merlin au <3 (also i give you no context to the plot, because i don’t feel like writing all of it out rn (sorry))

so when when scar, cub and mumbo have to go back to camelot, there’s obviously a teary goodbye because they don’t want to leave grian </3 but right as they’re about to get on the horses and leave, grian grabs scars wrist and says “goodbye, my king.” and like it’s so cute because it’s like scar is grian’s king, that is where his loyalties lie. and it’s even more important because scar is acting reagent at the time so he’s literally king in all but name and law-changing power!!!

grian, due to his arcane connection to knowledge, is plagued with visions. they usually appear as dreams and are horrifying. there have been many times where he has woken up his friends just to make sure they’re still alive. but sometimes, they cause him to spiral. and the only thing that can calm him down is a strangers voice in the back of his head. he doesn’t place the voice until he hears scar calm down a young servant who had accidentally bumped into him.. and its like imagine with me for a moment: you hear someone’s voice and it is the only thing to calm you down when your magic causes you to see all your friends die gruesome deaths and then ayer in life you realise it’s the voice of the person you are in love with???? SO soulmates coded!!

okay and lastly, after scar finds out about grian’s magic but before camelot does, grian makes a special salve for scar, to help his chronic aches. it’s a quiet moment between the two, they didn’t have the energy to break nor would they if they could. grian feels the tightness of scar’s muscles from tireless overuse, and he wants nothing more than to chew the king for all that he was worth for putting scar through that. and scar sees how effortlessly, easily, quickly grian made the salve. it was as if it was second nature, he’d done it a thousand times. neither of them mentions it, but they know and it seems like that is enough..
