this might be very incoherent cause my brain is slightly burnt but i find it really interesting (fascinating, even) that armand is apparently drawn to people who have an interest in seeing/understanding others.

i mean, we have louis, who has photography as a hobby when armand meets him, a preference for portraits and hiding behind the people he photographs in his own way ("hides the cracks in the walls", as he said).

he likes taking photographs because it takes his mind off things, and taking portraits because it hides the cracks in the walls, and says he's finding himself through those pictures.

then we have daniel, who holds onto his interviews as a reason to live when armand tries to convince him to give up, and who memorised the stories of the people he talked to so well he can remember them even when under pressure.

he says he didn't live a fascinating life (and from what armand digs from his mind, he isn't lying), but louis still calls him fascinating. he says he is good at "getting people to open up", and armand calls him an eager black hole after almost spilling his own story.

and what i'm trying to get at here is that armand looked at these two, who see themselves through other people, and immediately decided that they were going to be his. which becomes pretty sad when you remember that he said he didn't know who he was himself.

he shows interest in their ways to explore themselves, but gives up quickly when he figures neither photographing others or listening to their lives would bring him a sense of self the way being told who he was by others did.

was talking with a friend about how some of dunmeshi fаndom misunderstands kabru's initial feelings towards laios.

to sum up kabru's situation via a self-contained modernized metaphor:

kabru is like a guy who lost his entire family in a highly traumatic car accident. years later he joins a discord server and takes note of laios, another server member who seems interesting, so they start chatting. then laios reveals his special interest and favorite movie of all time is David Cronenberg's Crash (1996), and invites kabru to go watch a demolition derby with him

the revelation that claudia’s rebirth was such a twisted and horrible moment, with louis dragging her like she was a thing, a stranger who neither of them knew but he kept saying over and over “our daughter, our beautiful little daughter” to lestat, really solidified the way she was never the main character of her own story. she was always an accessory to some or the other of louis’ whims: his guilt, his loneliness, his conflict of being a killer, his rocky relationship with lestat. there was love there, love from both her fathers, but it was never enough. lestat saw her too much as a wretched mirror held up to his own self, and louis was always too steeped in his own feelings to care enough about hers. claudia’s story truly was the greatest tragedy in this tale, treated horribly by every man around her, even her fathers, relentlessly exploited and brutally ignored, always second and never first. the only one who loved her the way she deserved to be loved was madeleine, and the moment she truly had her, her happiness was torn from her. and just before she died, she got to see someone actually choose her in her entirety, not for what she can be but for who she is, and it still wasn’t enough. she still burned alive in the sunlight. the love was there, but it wasn’t enough to save her.

Eldritch/not-entirely-human Grunkle Stan stories have been eating away at my brain, so I have a silly little concept of Mimic!Stan.

He and his Mystery Shack are both mimics that lure tourists in as a literal "tourist trap" to gather and devour them! Since the house is alive, it raises a few (read: several) child safety concerns that lead to a LOT of rules to be created for Dipper and Mabel to follow when they eventually arrive, such as:

Be careful not to get lost in the winding hallways! The Mystery Shack is bigger on the inside, and you don't want to end up in the wrong areas.

Don't go through randomly appearing doors, they may eat you.

If you think you feel the walls around you breathing and the floor beneath you shifting, no, you don't.

If you think the walls feel a bit damp, you're imagining it.

Watch your fingers around windowsills! You wouldn't want to lose any of them.

Don't linger too long under the doorframes; it may start feeling like they are slowly constricting around you.
