barry being obsessed with going all YourFaveIsProblematic on 'great men' as a way to justify himself because if they could do bad things and still be regarded as great then so can he. he’s “doing” the “work” of “bettering himself” and berating sally for being drunk because it “sets a bad example” and hiding guns behind live laugh love decor. He’s literally putting on a wholesomecore front lol, he’s play acting as a ted lasso type and using lib therapy language which is indistinguishable from when he’s using evangelical language which is all utterly meaningless and he uses it as a violence. Ha ha ha

Aw, Steven looks like such a proud father figure!
Or… brother figure.
Wait… what is he to Seaglass?
I think the comic answers this one pretty well on its own! :)

i know it's not the focus like at all, but we should definitely at least acknowledge the fact that kevin is constantly belittling and gaslighting his own father. it's like. it's really not in the forefront and obviously we have bigger fish to fry, but it really shows what kind of person he is. he will take every fucking inch of social advantage he has and use it against every single person in his life, regardless of what their relationship is. like. sorry i know he's the direct cause of a good chunk of kevins misogyny, but. that old man has nowhere to go. he has nothing to do. they make repeated references to his multitude of health conditions that prevent him from extricating himself from kevins life until he finds someone who has independent means who wants to be with him. i think over the course of the show it's pretty obvious that his father loves him as best he can and tries to help him, and it's equally clear that his son simply doesn't care about him except as a glorified cronie

#i feel you op i also started initially to read the stories but got busy grinding for events instead 😭 #i also haven't read any of the events not even madguy bc i feel like im gonna miss a lot of context i feel sorry for my boys #although I've recently caught up to ch7 and it made me a stornger more brainrotted madguy fan than before #ppl said it's gonna get more insane later on and im nervous #but so far. the stories are GOOD i highly recommend reading it if you're able to #it's just kamen rider but with extra steps #also to assuage your fear (i hope?) i heard from the grapevines that the change to leon is minimal you can easily miss it (via @chipsncookies)
YES I feel a lot better knowing other people are in the same boat as me! :') as someone who only plays games very casually, the events are fun (and have been a good excuse to get those support stories on characters I was kinda ignoring) but SO distracting -- and they have a connected overarching narrative of their own (make sure you read them in order when you get to them!) so I don't want to skip any. which I guess is to say that my problem is that I'm enjoying the writing too much! how dare they.
overall it definitely has that Kamen Rider tone and feeling I was hoping for and I am VERY pleased with it! I do kinda miss the kitbashy monsters, though otherwise it's basically just Rider But With More Random Scenes of Characters Being Ridiculous At Each Other and that is exactly what I was after. (also exquisite taste, Mad Guys are best guys 🤝)
and as long as I still haven't gotten to episode 13 and can therefore continue to be hilariously naive, let me just say that I know what I'm dreaming of for Leon. he deserves it.
Tumblr media
...although I do think it would be VERY funny if they made that whole big "WE WILL BE UPDATING LEON'S SPRITES TO REFLECT STORY CHANGES!!!!" announcement and then it turns out that they just like. hue-shifted his eye color slightly to the right or something. it's not even a big story beat, Leon just decided to try out some color contacts, maybe comb his hair back a little, and we don't have the heart to tell him to stop. :(

I felt so seen when I first read pjo and it mentioned Annabeth’s arachnophobia. I used to have so many nightmares when I was younger (probably started when I was around five or six), I would wake up in the middle of the night and be so terrified of moving because I thought there were spiders all over my bed. The shadows on my popcorn ceiling looked like spider figures and I remember just laying there sweating and not making a sound because I thought it would attract the spiders I guess? It was routine for me to shout for my mom—poor her, she would be woken at 2 in the morning like thrice a week— and she’d always shake my sheets and lay with me until I feel asleep. She would also take me to sleep with her and my dad in their massive bed (who was I to say no to the invitation?) and it got to the point where I was embarrassed that I couldn’t sleep a whole night without someone. Occasionally, I still have these nightmares about spiders and I just turn on a light, go to the bathroom, come back, and pretend it never happened.
Idk, just thinking about that. I kind of had forgotten about those nightmares but I don’t play when I see spiders because I know it means I’m going to dream about them.

tom riddle as a muggle-raised halfblood orphan is wonderful because you’d THINK his villain origin story is all the horcrux stuff but really it’s just the experience of trying to wrangle a class year of pampered slytherin heirs into one household. tom doesn’t even have a house elf so half of the emergent DE are politely avoiding putting their jackets down on the furniture in fear of getting his plebeian germs on them & grimacing behind his back but telling him it’s all fine, old bean, really, his house is so charmingly quaint :)
1/3 of the death eaters are engaged to each other since childhood, another 1/3 are having affairs, and the remaining third has unimaginably intricate ancient beef that traces back to someone’s great-great-grandfather snubbing another’s at a ministry gala in 1860. but its largely impossible to tell who hates who because they’re all obligated to be backstabby fake-friends with each other.
just staggering amounts of social skills that tom got them fearing for their lives and wearing cult outfits within the year. could you imagine trying to explain to your terrifying pureblood patriarch father that, sorry, you’re moving out because actually WAY MORE afraid of this random 20-something grad student whose failed lifelong dream was to be a high school teacher. and he wants you to live in his Scooby Doo Villain house and call him a made-up name.

I've talked about this before but Bill's desire to be the perfect sitcom dad irl manifests with his kids in the sense that he isn't there for them in any meaningful way but he DOES do these grand (often public) displays of affection. He'll have quiet conversations with them sometimes and miight play with them occasionally (mostly office with Lizzie or catch with Mikey) but its mostly stuff like buying them that jacket the night before the party or holidays or roadtrips or elaborate breakfasts.

One of the most surprisingly delightful things about BBC Ghosts is just how much of a gem Pat is. Going off of appearances, it would be really easy for the narrative to make a bunch of jokes at his expense and make that the sum total of his character, but no. Yeah, he’s the middle-aged scout leader with an arrow in his neck with an out-of-fashion haircut, but he’s more than that.
He led boy scouts and was genuinely passionate about it, and what does that mean? He’s patient and used to dealing with kids calmly, socially and emotionally aware, generally unselfish, and good at building people up. And the fact that he’s got all of the badges means that he’s got a whole wealth of genuinely interesting competencies that means he’s interesting to be around. And then he also delights in so many things, which sparks life into everyone around him. In life or death, you really want to be around people like Pat!

I personally can never get into all the fanon stuff that has Javert being a father figure to Cosette because I'm always like "well, he DID kill Cosette's mother....that was kind of a significant thing that happened...even in the musical he terrorized her a bunch, but in the book he terrorized her until she died in agony, and a big part of Cosette's character is that she doesn't know what happened to her mother and desperately wants to know....idk? I feel like that's sort of a significant Thing to leave out". Though again, I get it's because people are basing it on the musical where Javert is less evil to Fantine specifically

do love how this is an asoiaf blog but i did not put either show in my top 10 this is the world we live in
#the only season that really compares to the book is season 1.#the rest even when they’re engaging have changed something that feels so central to the hook that i’m mad aksjd.#getting on my soap box#if iwtv s3 is good it may knock someone out. probably qaf.#bsg is p high up there i just think season 4 really suffered on pacing & the suspicious nature of who dies annoyed me.#veep is also very high up there tbh i need to rewatch it. the thing is. as we know. i am a romantic at heart and amy & jonah have my favorit#sitcom relationship. veep has genuinely one of the best finales to ever exist but i’m a sap.#and amy coming back to tell jonah that he made her realize she doesn’t actually have to expect the worst from life. oh my god.#also superstore >>> parks & rec >>> the office bc superstore never romanticized the hell of their job#amy quitting her corporate job when she realized she would never be able to make the changes she wanted within the system she was always#going to compromise too much and wind up like jeff. glenn reopening his dad’s hardware shop & specifically who goes w him & who stays w gina#at the store? it has what the other two lack which is characters that feel like they keep existing after you stop watching#BECAUSE the way they interacted with the world was so real and so much more realistic. amy can’t fix the system but she can find a job that#she doesn’t feel is so soul sucking. glenn may be choosing a harder path by reopening the hardware store but it’s the one that makes him#most fulfilled. gina just gets to make money and be bossy w people who do what they’re told. that rings so true to me.#i almost out bojack horseman in here too actually but once again i think the last season just needed to be a tad longer just like bsg.#also same issue w pitch as w bly manor - it’s an amazingly written season of tv but it’s ONE season of tv#big brother as always outsells yes i am hoping to tempt some of u into watching by posting dan & ian in the dog costume#i have that gif and the ‘sit’ scene saved on my phone always

quinton's april fools video is amazing cause not only is it so long that it took two days to upload, but it's still legit content that would appeal to most who watch him regularly.
