Trying to have a conversation with my brother about antisemitism in the pro pali movement, and I feel coming up with nothing. Im feeling so lost and i feel like everything is just too much.

He said he got uncmfortable with the conversation, which i understandable in a way because it's a heavy topic, but it still feels so disingenuous. For instance, he talks to our grandmother who I KNOW is a raging antisemite (FROM East Germany. She is one of the main ways I became aware of what antisemitism looks like growing up), about israel/palestine.

He didnt even know what blood label or duel loyalty was until i explained what it was, and whenever I ask a question he goes quiet. When i say these things, and how i am geneuinly scared for my boyfriend's (Who is Jewish) safety, he goes quiet. I tell him it's important to check in on Jewish people around you and listen to them and he gives me a little "yeah." It feels like im having a conversation with a brick wall/ just talking to myself. I know when he disagrees because he goes quiet. he doesn't have a backbone and he doesn't debate on anything, and when he goes quiet I know that's when he disagrees but doesnt want to speak his mind. It's not like I WANT to argue with him / want to pick a fight of course but I feel completely ignored.

Part of the issue is that I had a really bad falling out with the majority of my family and he is basically all I have left. For him to not listen to me is just like the rest of them, although this problem isnt about me, it just adds to the hurt I already feel since I'm trying to talk about something extremely important to me, and I feel like I'm BEGGING him to hear me, it hurts.

He at least agrees Hamas should release the hostages? But I feel that's bottom line. I send him resources but I doubt he'd actually read any of it at this point and I'm at a complete loss. I've lost so much these past few years and I have this feeling again.

I don't even know what to do anymore. my boyfriend is sleeping right now but I know when I talk to him about this he will feel the same. I try so hard but he doesn't want to talk to me. He doesn't even tell me what our grandmother was saying either. Our parents are pro israel but he wont even tell me what they were saying. He tells me nothing ever. Months ago when he originally told me he talked to our grandmother he never told me what she said even when I asked him, and showed concern. I tried again and still nothing substantial, just saying "Yeah we agree its fucked up"

Like no. tell me what she's saying, please. I know it's all bad, I know her and I remember in detail the shit she has said about Jewish people in the past. I literally cant handle the thought of him going down an antisemetic pipeline and I feel he is already down the path and there is nothing I can do. It breaks my heart. Seriously. Why doesn't he care?

What the fuck is going on? I live across the country and he is my only way of knowing whats going on there, and he tells me nothing.

this year my challenge for everyone is to unlearn the association between love and morality. love is not something that is inherently morally good, and the absence of love is not something that is inherently bad. sex without love isn't morally bankrupt, it's just an action. people without love aren't less kind or less good, they're just people. when we can get past this false (and often unnoticed) dichotomy of good love/evil lovelessness then i think we are going to be able to take leaps and bounds in sex positivity, aro advocacy, certain discussions of mental health...

⚠️Spoilers for Look Back but I was initially confused about what Fujino and Kyomoto's relationship had to do with pursuing a career as a mangaka. After thinking about it, I interpret it as a narrative device to represent what will come when choosing to pursue art (of any form, whether it's comics, painting, animation, music, etc.).

Think about it, what's Kyomoto's role in the story? She is what got Fujino to take art seriously in middle school, and what motivated her to continue after she initially gave up. However, she's also the only thing in the story that makes Fujino wish she quit art. First, halfway through 6th grade and then later after her death. She serves as Fujino's motivator and de-motivator.

I think the scene of Fujino wishing that she never told Kyomoto to come out (that pursuing art only led to suffering) represents artists' regrets. We literally look back and see an alternate universe where Fujino never pursued art and it has a happier ending. Anyone that pursues artistic dreams will end up regretting it at some point. It's not easy, any artist will tell you that. The story is saying yes, you probably will end up healthier and more stable by giving up your dreams. Because art is suffering.

But then Fujino enters Kyomoto's room after reading the comic from the alternate reality and all of a sudden we get a montage of the happy memories and accomplishments they had pursuing their dreams together. And we realize that, everything we saw of them in the alternate 'happier' reality pales in comparison to this:

The happiest both of them look in that alternate world is when they finally meet and promise to work together someday. They loved art. They loved each other. Giving up on your dreams means missing out on all of that, and nothing in the world can replace it. Because yes art is suffering, but art is also joy and love.

And so the end of the story where Fujino goes back to work isn't her moving on. She tapes the comic strip in front of her to remind her of Kyomoto, to remind her of why she got into comics in the first place. Basically, Kyomoto IS art to Fujino. A life with her means experiencing both suffering and joy, while the life without her means having none of that.

I might be wrong about this, like maybe Fujimoto just wanted to tell a mangaka story with doomed yuri (valid) HOWEVER i like my interpretation so im sticking with it.

I think a lot about Leo standing up for his brothers in the things that really matter to them.

Like- Leo is the one who immediately pushes Mikey and Donnie into finding Raph the second it’s clear that their oldest brother is missing because he knows Raph can’t handle being separated like that.

Leo is the one who stands up for Mikey when Mikey wants to go on a solo mission, actively vouching for him and being the one to convince Raph into letting Mikey go, because being independent and proving himself just as capable of standing on his own two feet as everyone else means so much to Mikey.

And Leo defends Donnie’s honor in particular when his brothers’ intelligence is insulted because Leo is well aware of how important Donnie’s smarts are to him - and how important having those smarts valued and acknowledged is as well.

All this goes right into just how well Leo knows his brothers. For as much as he’ll tease or fight with them, he knows them, and he loves them.

three weeks after Rite Here Rite Now I still think about the fact that when it ended my husband (who I forced to go in blind to get his honest opinion on the band) turned to me, started to say something, but stopped himself and said, "no, I'll tell you when we get to the car". Once we got to the car he pulled out his phone, typed around a bit, and finally exclaimed triumphantly, "I KNEW it! He's Swedish."

The steering wheel of his kart is covered in bite marks, similar to how one would bite their favorite pencil. he bites things to mark his territory because Nobody is gonna touch that unless they want all of his diseases (150+).

adding onto that point, this guy listens to metal clanking sounds and loud engine roaring for entertainment because he likes things that would overstimulate any normal person. turbo is incredibly sensory-seeking and will do anything for The Sensations

someone should take him to a heavy rock concert i think it would change him a little. keep that thang on a leash

related to being sensory-seeking, i think he would absolutely love running his hands over random textures. if anyone has run their hands along a wall while walking alongside it...He does that...If u know u know... he is SO stimmy its unbelievable. Unreal.

very pain-tolerant. he'll whine and complain about it for attention, but physical hurt really doesnt bother him much until it gets in the way of what he wants to do.

funnily enough, he is very picky when it comes to temperature. he can handle getting ran over but if its 1° too hot or cold he'll start nagging and nagging for it to go back to normal. turbo really needs his own enclosure i think it'd do him a lot of good

this is a more popular headcanon and its canon-leaning, but he's an artist :-] he usually sticks to graffiti art because its generally considered more "rebellious and cool" but he also sketches cars, design decals, and other stuff when hes alone!

i just noticed how his design has like 0 actual candy motifs aside from his bow being a candy wrapper and his shoes having those little gumdrop end pieces. what was he THINKING

while King Candy has a lisp, i think it's a coverup for his actual voice because of how goofy and recognizable it is. Overall its the same as his regular voice, he just gets silly with it. i noticed that he still does retain some of his lisp when hes screaming his lungs out at Vanellope, however, so maybe he genuinely does have a lisp that makes itself known when furious :3

another thing i noticed is how he hisses his S's. very cool very cool the reptilian

i think he gets migraines from stress. constant buzzing or pain flood his head but hes like "IDGAF i need to DO something at ALL TIMES no matter what"

i dont think turbo is necessarily suicidal, but the way he behaves shows a clear disregard for his own safety and wellbeing. he thinks that he knows what he needs but he really doesnt :-[ i think he has some kind of immortality complex, feeling untouchable and like nothing could get to him. as scared as he was when ralph was about to turn him into sloppy mush, he didnt take the threat very seriously. like it was some kind of joke

his kart regenerates every time his game starts up, so what if he smashed it into buildings for fun. He's the number one fan of car accidents. he is all about that shit

i think his living space would literally be a garage btw. its a place to sleep and a space for his car all in one!! he thinks its very convenient and awesome but i think he is coping. he has some old dingy stained sheetless mattress that he has never washed in his life and its covered in dirt and smoke particles. no wonder he has such heavy eye bags Dude Please

the turbo twins have a garage used in a similar way, and while its still pretty shitty, they still at least TRY to maintain it. they just fight a lot over who has to care of it. nobody taught them how to take turns ever

i think that turbo would find comfort in garbage and keeping it around because its familiar to him. a big clean empty space would make him so mad and if anyone moves even an inch of scrap off to the side he will throw a fit. he generally doesnt pay attention to his surroundings but when its his personal space he is 1093 times more neurotic

i think the big empty castle he stole wouldve been a big transition for him. maybe it helped him clear his mind a little more to practice his tricky schemes...it helped him get more subtle

Thinking about how in the book Newt tried to separate himself from Thomas and Minho so they didn't have to watch him go mad, while in the movie he stuck with Thomas despite Thomas's protests because he wanted to save Minho. Book Newt kept himself away from the city so he wouldn't infect anyone while movie Newt broke into WCKD to save the immune there. Book Newt helped Kiasha and Dante to reunite with their family while movie Newt led immune kids out of WCKD. When he found out he wasn't immune, book Newt comforted Thomas while movie Newt hid the truth from him, at least for a while. Newt's actions in The Death Cure book vs the movie were almost completely opposite each other, but he did it all with the same goals and the same motives in each universe. All he wanted was to protect his friends and do something good with the time he had left.

tonight I watched Return To Oz, for the second time in my beautiful life, and girl this is a HORROR MOVIE for children

Small but significant character moments that I actually really adore are from both the times we see the boys as tots. There is a reoccurrence that happens in both of them that I find so incredibly interesting.

For the turtle tot short, Splinter leaves the boys with weapons. In the short, Raph is the one who suggests they do “what Lou Jitsu would do” and Leo is the one who takes point when Splinter comes back to reprimand them. Leo, in taking point, is the one to defend them and get Splinter off their tails.

And then, in the flashback regarding the Kuroi Yōroi helmet, Raph is the one who grabs and throws “Skully” as a way to replace their missing ball which breaks it into pieces, but Leo is the one who speaks for the group and rushes into action to fix the teapot.

I love this for multiple reasons, but the biggest are how it shows that Raph has always been inclined toward the bold and fun and making the plans to include his brothers in what he loves and believes they’d love, whereas Leo has always been inclined to be the “Face” of the group and shoulder the attention even if it’s potentially negative all while coming up with on the spot attempts to fix the situation.
