Celebrating 18 years of being a nerd!
Tumblr media
In honor of that nerdiness, here's 18 things I've learned by 18!
Believe it or not, things don't always have to be perfect.
Anything is possible in some way, shape, or form, just maybe not exactly how you imagine it.
Life is what you make of it--to an extent.
Negative emotions are part of living a full life.
It's ok to like things that are popular.
There are a lot of good people out there.
The Gospel
Poofy skirts and patterned leggings are not a great combo–particularly when the colors don’t match at all.
Tomatoes and onions in soup are somewhat tolerable. Peppers are not.
Things seem impossible until you actually make yourself do them, then they usually get easier.
It's ok to rest--really, it is.
Everyone has something they're dealing with, so be gentle.
Your feelings are valid.
You don't always have to be doing something exciting to have fun.
You are capable of more than you think.
Sometimes the pieces of life fall into place when you least expect them to.
Alpacas are a superior animal.
If something makes you happy and isn’t harmful, it’s worth it.

“Many people seem to think it foolish, even superstitious, to believe that the world could still change for the better. And it is true that in winter it is sometimes so bitingly cold that one is tempted to say, ‘What do I care if there is a summer; its warmth is no help to me now.’ Yes, evil often seems to surpass good. But then, in spite of us, and without our permission, there comes at last an end to the bitter frosts. One morning the wind turns, and there is a thaw. And so I must still have hope.”

not everything you want to do needs to be good or profitable. please allow yourself to just make some doodles, write an unfinished poem, read half of a book per month, be a plant mom/dad with lots of dead plants, be able to play only twinkle twinkle little star on an instrument, dance weird, take ugly and out-of-frame photos.
everything you do is valuable, specially those you do because it makes you feel good.

Thinking about how in the book Newt tried to separate himself from Thomas and Minho so they didn't have to watch him go mad, while in the movie he stuck with Thomas despite Thomas's protests because he wanted to save Minho. Book Newt kept himself away from the city so he wouldn't infect anyone while movie Newt broke into WCKD to save the immune there. Book Newt helped Kiasha and Dante to reunite with their family while movie Newt led immune kids out of WCKD. When he found out he wasn't immune, book Newt comforted Thomas while movie Newt hid the truth from him, at least for a while. Newt's actions in The Death Cure book vs the movie were almost completely opposite each other, but he did it all with the same goals and the same motives in each universe. All he wanted was to protect his friends and do something good with the time he had left.

yall ever have moments where you’re friend validates yalls friendship and it makes your heart melt and you think about it all the time like oh my god you really do love me and care about me
I made my friend a bracelet for her birthday and she wears it every single day and everytime I get a glimpse of it on her wrist I wanna cry
there is no love greater than platonic love.

“Ughh I have to write so many buildup chapters before I get to the scene I REALLY want to write…”
No you don’t. Who is making you? Write the scene you really want to write. You can reference all kinds of stuff in the scene that have theoretically been written, coming up with it it on the spot, and through that you might get inspiration for what happened before that scene.
Write what you’re feeling inspired to write. No one is holding you at gunpoint saying you MUST go in chronological order. And if you’re holding yourself at gunpoint, stop it, because you should always be writing the thing you want to write, not forcing yourself to write things you don’t want to write. Lack of inspiration is incredibly anti-creativity. Create the thing that makes you feel creative!
