DRA Character Sexuality Headcanons

I’ll just be making a brief list of what sexual orientation I believe each character from the first Danganronpa Another game has. Remember, I’m not condemning anyone who disagrees with my interpretation or has a different headcanon of a character. I believe everyone is entitled to their own headcanon, even if it blatantly contradicts canon, and you don’t attack others who don’t share the same headcanon as you.

Kiyoka Maki: heterosexual.

Kiyoka spends her last FTE worrying about who’ll be a suitable boyfriend if they don’t escape, so that’s basically my justification for this interpretation.

Mitsuhiro Higa: heterosexual.

Yeah, I don’t think much explanation is needed: he sexually harasses Akane in chapter 1 and brags about how many girls he gets in his FTEs. I understand why some may interpret him as an in-denial homosexual, if only to take the piss out of him, but I don’t see it that way. Mitch is a pretty transparent character, so I doubt something as deep as that is applicable to him.

Kizuna Tomori: heterosexual.

Some see her as a repressed lesbian, which I understand why, but I see her as more of a “straight girl with severe issues in her relationship to men”. Plus, I take into account the FTEs, so Kizuna’s implied attraction to Yuki by her last FTE is indicative of her sexuality to me.

Ayame Hatano: Bisexual.

I forever headcanon Ayame is in love with Akane, but her last FTE has her blushing at Yuki, so I interpret her as a girl-leaning Bisexual.

Kakeru Yamaguchi: Bisexual.

I wholeheartedly ship Kakeru x Kanata (Kakenata? Kanakeru? Yamanori?), so that’s part of it, but Kakeru also gives major guy-liker vibes, so there you go. I also semi-ship Kakeru and Kinji, so that’s further fuel to the fire.

Kanata Inori: heterosexual.

As I just said, Kakeru x Kanata is OTP for me, and that’s all the justification I need.

Kinji Uehara: Pansexual.

This might sound unexpected, but I see Kinji as such an open-minded and big-hearted person that he wouldn’t consider the gender of his partner, even if his religion prevents him from entering any romantic relationships.

Haruhiko Kobashikawa: heterosexual.

Similar story with Mitch, except Haru isn’t nowhere near as creepy. Sure, some think he’s got some homoeroticism with Yuki in his FTEs, but his obsession with the female gender leaves me skeptical of that.

Satsuki Iranami: Pansexual.

Similar to Kinji, I believe Satsuki’s such a pure-hearted person that she wouldn’t even think about her partner’s gender. Still, Satsuhiko for the win!

Yamato Kisaragi: Pansexual.

Literally the exact same explanation with Kinji and Satsuki, only I think he’s got a preference for men.

Mikako Kurokawa: Biromantic Demisexual.

Being the mysterious and quiet girl she is in-game, I doubt Mikako would consider dating someone unless she’s built a secure, trusting relationship with them. However, I’m unsure whether this would apply to pre-game Mikako.

Teruya Otori: homoflexible.

Now, I just can’t unsee Teruya liking other guys, but I also headcanon that Teruya developed feelings for Rei between the time they escaped and pre-SDRA2, so I compensated roughly down the middle.

Akane Taira: Heteroflexible.

I view Akane as predominantly being attracted to men, but may make some exceptions for a girl or two (perhaps Ayame would fit the bill 👀)

Yuki Maeda: Heteroflexible.

Similar to Akane, he seems to be a woman-liker, but I’ve no problem with the idea of him getting together with the right man (*cough*KINJO*cough*). In regards to Utsuro, I think he’s either AroAce or Demisexual.

Rei Mekaru: Panromantic Demisexual.

See, I believe Rei would have an extremely difficult time with getting vulnerable enough with someone to consider dating them, but once a trusting relationship is established, I don’t think she’d care about her partner’s gender.

Tsurugi Kinjo: Biromantic Demisexual.

Similar to Rei, except Tsurugi may have a preference for men, given that he spent much of his backstory and post-SDRA2 presence being defined by his relationships to other men.

Okaaay....this is just my headcanon but but but here's a thread on each Batfam member's sexual orientation (some of them might be unpopular opinion but it's my opinion so...)

- Bruce Wayne is bi, he might have been bi-curious at one point if he is not 🥹 playboy, charming, flirtatious and rich, he's everyone's dream. And I don't think the Bat himself is in denial of his sexuality, in fact, though lowkey, he might just be casually talking about his flings to Alfred if he didn't consider feelings a scary thing.

- Please forgive me for saying this but Dick Grayson feels like a straight guy who's very comfortable with his sexuality that he doesn't mind the gay jokes and he himself would make non-homophobic queer jokes towards his friends (regardless of their sexuality).

- Jason Todd is either bi or straight, because of that Judd Winick interview and because he's giving major bi friend vibes (trust me I'm bi), who leans towards dating girls but he might have been too jaded or fearful of commitment to be in a relationship so he's still single til this day. But he might also be similar to Dick, he might be a straight guy who is constantly attracting queer friends and is ok with that. Maybe he just has a smart mouth and wants to tease or provoke other guys to the point that it seemed queer as a hetero man, like how guys irl do? I dunno, but he could either be bi or straight, he gives off both vibes to me honestly lol. I can’t decide on this one.

- Tim Drake, similar to canon storylines, bisexual, need I say more? Though I'd like to see them build Tim and Bernard more cuz Bernard is a bit too similar to Steph now, and Tim and Kon also have a very interesting dynamic so I am very conflicted. I like the fact that even though they've broken up, him and Steph are still friends. I really appreciate healthy relationships like that (i...if of course you look past the fact that he might have wanted to unalive her dad).

- Stephanie Brown feels like she could be pansexual, she's chill and she doesn't mind being in a relationship with someone of the same gender, of the opposite gender or genderfluids or trans. But to get the most accurate impression of her, I will spend my time reading Batgirls. For now, her vibes scream pansexuality to me.

- Damian Wayne is straight, but he is just not into relationships. Though I also like his dynamic with Jon, I can't see them as more than friends (but you're welcome to ship them, it's actually a cute ship but bc they're literally children so I just can't see anything more than platonic). I know the Asexual Damian trope is also very popular but to me, he seems like a straight guy who, like Jason, is not into relationships due to the nature of his worklife.

- Barbara Gordon feels like she could be straight or bi, that's up to intereptation, but for the most part to me, she seems to be straight, I mean she loves a guy named Dick so...and her interactions with BoP members seem very platonic to me. But other headcanons are also cool, please enlighten me.

- Duke Thomas is straight, he's like that one YA romance novel live action main character, an awkward teenager except he's a metahuman and also a vigilante. Yes, he's sassy and funny and nice, I know, but his vibe doesn't scream queer to me.

- Cassandra Cain is bisexual because of her interactions with Tim and Steph in the comics. She's the quiet bisexual friend/lover that everyone is comfortable with. And I love, love that about her. Yes, Cass seems to be the downright not heterosexual, hell, she might have been more into girls than guys.

- Kate Kane is 100% a lesbian, this is not a headcanon. She's so gay that nothing about her is straight, not even her name.

- Ok, weird one but I think Alfred Pennyworth might also be bisexual, he could have banged the queen as an agent in his younger years then started dating the prince a year later. Or he could be demisexual, who knows, maybe he loved someone when he was younger, then something happened and he can't find himself being in another relationship with anyone else, and also younger Bruce only had him so he didn't have time for dating.

Edit: my take on Cassandra Cain before anyone comes at me with their extremist anti batcest bs again (and unless you're here for Bruce and Damian as a couple, I don't even think batcest is a word that should exist) and here. Don't go looking for dramas, be polite to other people please. Just because you don't ship it doesn't mean you should act like an asshole about it. Their interaction happened in canon and I simply stated the fact with pictures from the actual comics, I don't ship them as a couple because well, I just....don't? Trope grading game

Actually took me a little bit after work to fill this out as I don't usually think too heavily about why I like a trope, and sometimes I'm in the mood for a specific trope and will look for those tags exclusively, but most of the time I'll read anything that isn't a big nope for me.

Rules: How much do these tropes affect your decision to click on a fic?

-10 -> very dissuaded 0 - don’t care either way +10 -> very enticed nope -> if it’s a hard no and you’d never click on a fic with that tag or or you even have the tag blocked or you’d insta click out of the fic if it wasn’t tagged Bonus points for explaining the rating and whether it’s conditional.

Age gap: -9

I wanted to say nope to this one, I’ve never really been in a ship/fandom that had any major age gaps, but ones with larger gaps or when one person is barely legal (18-20) it just puts me right off and gives me creep vibes. However, I didn’t give it a nope because there are some smaller age gaps that are fine, like Penny and Shep, if I remember correctly she’s 19 and he’s 22 when they met, an age gap like that is fine

Codependency: +5

Kinda hard to explain this one, it changes with the context but I do lean more towards being enticed

Obsession/Possessiveness, jealousy: +5

In cases like Simon and Baz, yes, 100% into that, but when it gets toxic or violent then I want nothing to do with it, there is nothing romantic about that

As long as that's not their defining trait, then I do enjoy seeing different dynamics where the characters balance each other out, plus I find even relationships irl tend to have some opposite differences to balance them out

Absolutely, I eat this shit for breakfast, but it does have to be done right (like Snowbaz) they have to bond and actually fall for each other, not just be physical attraction and that's it, you can’t just have the characters hating each other and literally trying to murder the other only to turn around and bang it out

I’m indifferent, I mean if it ends with them being lovers and there's some angst then hella yeah, but if it’s just friends banging it out for no reason and then happen to date because of it then no thank you

Sex to feelings: 0

As someone who is demisexual, this is a bit hard for me to grasp, but that doesn’t mean I won’t read it, sometimes I’m just really in the mood for smut and this can have the potential for some good hurt/comfort

Fake dating/relationship: +9

Now I really love this if done well, and I have read some really good Snowbaz fics with this premise and wish there were more (I may attempt to write one myself but idk if I’d be able to do the trope justice), but it can sometimes feel a little surface level and frustrating in the “why don’t you just communicate and everything would be better” kind of way

Friends to lovers: +6

This can be really fluffy, or extremely angsty and I’m down for both

Found Family: 0

I like the concept in theory, especially for Simon, his friends are his family (and once he learns about his actual family them as well) but I see this as more of a platonic thing and not so much as a romantic trope, and it can a lot of times be used to gloss over the trauma from biological family when found family isn’t some magic bandaid

Hurt/Comfort: +10 For everyone who’s read carry on, do I really need to explain this one

Depends on the ship, technically there was a love triangle between Agatha, Simon and Baz. I like it in a more light-hearted way where no one gets hurt

I’m perfectly fine with open relationships, and certain situations get a pass (Someone wicked for example) but I’m pretty monogamous and when reading a ship I usually look just for those two characters. I will say in previous fandoms I have read really good poly relationships so I might read it

I think this would be a funny trope that could be done more, if done right. I have read a few wrong number texting fics that I will count as mistaken identity and they can be great

This is more of an overall problem that people have with characters in general, but if I hear another "Caspar doesn't know what sex is" take I swear to God, it's such a take that borders on aphobic in my opinion because a character just can't not Care about sex and let flirtations fly over their head without seeming like they're just dumb. People love to point at his Goddess Tower scene and his support with Hilda, but he can also just. Not have romance on his mind until it's relevant to him. Signed, a demisexual.

💔: If you had to remove one major character from the series, who would you choose?

... Flayn. I'm sorry honey but I'm just so tired of the "character who looks like a child but is really thousands of years old" trope. At best, I would have preferred her to look older because it makes no sense why her dad looks so mature and Flayn, who seems to have a whole-ass statue of herself, looks so baby, despite her actual age.

Everyone is some kind of queer in this series, man. But I have two different kinds of answers for this:

Commonly headcanoned as queer but doesn't seem Gay: Claude. Still queer, but he gives me aroace vibes.

Commonly headcanoned as queer but feels Straight: Ingrid. Comphet at best but I just don't generally see her with any of the girls in the main cast (not even Dorothea, I only ever saw the subtext from Dorothea's side). This could also totally be because I'm not really attached to her like I am with the rest of the girls, though.

My personal take on the sexualities of the Targaryen Family:

Laenor - kinda obvious but I'll put it anyway for the sake of completeness: Gay, so fucking gay that everyone knew and just politely pretended otherwise in public because of how powerful his family is.

Laena - we don't see her much but I'm going with Bi, no way she's straight with how pretty she is. she and Daemon definitely had some threesomes in Essos and experimented in the bedroom.

Daemon - Pan - this man has seen it all and probably fucked it all atleast once, I refuse to believe this man is straight but more than that he and to a lesser extent younger Rhaenyra make me believe the bullshit about the Targaryens using black magic to fuck dragons in order to become Dragon riders. Daemon gives off fuck around and find out vibes. Sometimes this is fighting, other times this is actual fucking.

Rhaenyra - Pan - much like Daemon she doesn't care so long as your handsom/beautiful but if it's more than just a quick fuck she also has a competency kink. Loyalty is a big thing for her too, probably a trauma response to Alicents betrayal and Criston's bullshit. A lack of monogamy isn't an issue to her so long as it's consensual but then that might not be so much a her thing or even a Targaryen thing but a Valyrian thing.

Aegon is a Hoe, he probably prefers woman but he's been drunk enough to accidentally fuck a man, be fucked by a man and maybe end up involved in some beastiality atleast once. Whether these all happened on the same night or at different low points is up to you.

Aemond - gay but he'd make an acception for Heleana if she ever looked his way - An absolute twat but prides himself on not being Aegon so probably has some kind of consent kink. Have you seen the way he looks at Daemon? Or even sir Criston? Dude likes men but could get it up with a woman if needs be. Then again much like his mother he seems to have a major hard on for 'Duty' so fuck knows.

Heleana - Ace as fuck and stuck with a man whore. The only good thing about her marriage to Aegon is that once he'd done his duty he ignored her for his whores and the servants. Can't say most men would do the same. She's kinda traumatised by the whole experience but glad they only had to do it a few times before she could get back to her bugs and later focus on her twins.

Viserys - Straight - likes to pretend he's adventurous but he's as vanilla as they come and if the shitty horror scenes of him and Alicent together are anything to go by he's Terrible in bed to boot.

Aemma - never had a chance to work it out, married Viserys way too young and was too devoted to ever look elsewhere. Viserys was enough for her and then he gutted her like a fish. Deserved better.

Rhaenys - Demisexual and Monogamous - woman met Corlys and that was it. He was her one and only and she was his. Absolutely Queen and deserved better than being looked over for fucking Viserys of all people
